Clifton R. Alsop " Clif" "Clee" MURRAY UTAH. An unusual creative man slipped away from us last Sunday. No one thought that such a strong person would gradually wear down after ninety-one years. Clif was born in 1913 to Henry Ray Alsop and Ethel Lavinnia Thayne Alsop. He attended Murray schools until they closed due to the depression and thereafter rode his bicycle to Jordan High and graduated with wife to be, Rachel Grant. Rachel and Clif were married in June of 1933 in the Salt Lake Temple shortly after high school graduation. Musically gifted, Clif played violin in several orchestras including the Utah Symphony. He founded Cook-Alsop Lumber Co. and became a master violin maker. He is survived by his wife and his two daughters Shirlene A. (Cliff) Cutler and Lesa (Marvin) Hertel; five grandchildren, Steven Cutler, John Cutler, and Camila Cutler (Dale) Romney, and Brett Stevens and Tad Stevens and seven great-grand-children. Four brothers are surviving, Dean (Glenna), Wayne (Melba), Eldon, and LaMar (Ruth). A brother Austin and two sisters Donna and Thora predeceased him. Cooper Barker 1925 ~ 2004 After spending a wonderful Thanksgiving with her entire family, our most precious wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away suddenly at home November 27, 2004. Zola was born in Meadow, Utah November 1, 1925 to Sherman Cooper and Grace Bushnell. She spent her childhood in Millard County and graduated from Delta High School. She attended BYU where she met her husband, Joseph V. Barker. They were married September 2, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many positions including Young Women's president and Relief Society president. She was employed with the federal government for 25 years and retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1985. She gave her all to any calling or job she accepted. She is survived by her husband, Joe; their two daughters, Anne (Mark) Whitlock and Teri Lynne (Jerry) Moore; four grandchildren, Kara, Jake, Mitchell, and Elizabeth; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Kameron; her brothers, Grant Cooper, Jay Cooper; and her sister, Kathryn Hunt. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth. She was born on October 5, 1935 in Werdau, Saxony, Germany to Erich and Gertrud Sellner. She married Werner Wolfram Birth, Oct 25, 1957 in Germany. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various callings, including a mission in Germany 1955-1957, Primary president and currently an extraction worker. She sang in the German Harmony Choir. She played the piano and organ. Her grandchildren will remember her most at Bear Lake giving them rides in her golf cart. She loved to garden and cook for others. She was a talented nurturer. She worked at the Hillside Villa for 17 years. She is survived by her husband, her daughter Miriam, her sons, Ruben (Tamra), Jared (Karen), Wilford (Teresa), David (Jill), Michael (Heidi) and Orson. 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sister Regina Schreiber of Salt Lake; and brother Detlef Sellner (Margitta) in Germany. Born in Ephraim, Utah, to John W. and Anna Mickelson Hutchinson who moved to Salt Lake to raise their family. May was married in the Salt Lake Temple to Floyd E. Deardorff, May 6, 1927. In 1932 her husband Floyd was killed in a tragic accident. In 1941, she married Hugh H. Pace, members of Fort Douglas Club (Divorced). Hugh passed away on August 2, 1961. May is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie May Thomas and Jane D. Smith; three grandsons: Michael H. (son J.C.), Floyd R. and Mark L. (Teri); great-granddaughters Lexi, Katie and Whitney), and a brother William L. Hutchinson. Preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Velora and Lucille; brothers Marvel, Grant and Irving. Born January 7, 1928 in Fairview, Idaho, daughter of Patison Delos and Cloie Mendenhall Perkins Griffeth. Married Jack Grant Edwards on June 28, 1949 in the Manti, Utah Temple. Graduated from Grooms Marinello College in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in Relief Society, Primary, and Young Adults. Along with her husband, Jack, served as ordinance workers in the Jordan River Temple for several years. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, and was extremely organized. She loved vacations, "weenie roasts" and spending time with her family. Her favorites were homemade lemon banana sherbet and lemon chiffon cake. She delighted in giving surprise gifts and long daily phone calls. A woman of high integrity, "Granny" was a devoted mother, friend, and family matriarch and is loved very much. Erickson, LaVerne Sigfred LaVerne Sigfred Erickson 1928 ~ 2004 LaVerne Sigfred Erickson died Nov 15, 2004 due to complications from a head injury sustained two weeks earlier while in residence at a nursing home. For the last four months he had needed the services of the nursing home as a result of battles with both organically-caused dementia and cancer. He was born in Troy, Idaho in 1928 to Gustave and Vema Erickson. He attended the University of Idaho and then medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, where he received his training as a neurosurgeon. He met his wife while in St. Louis and after being married they moved to Salt Lake City in 1962. He worked in private practice until 1981, when he moved to Chicago for over a year to work at Loyola University and Hines VA Hospital and to pursue research in NMR and MRI as they pertained to spinal cord injury. He then returned to Salt Lake and began working at the University of Utah Hospital and the VA Hospital until his retirement in 1999. Besides his work treating and helping people, his other great joy in life was the Grand Canyon. He spent many days hiking there and taking many pictures. He organized at least two large expeditions, one on the Colorado River and one to Havasupai Village, as well as many smaller ones. Although he never published the photography book on the Grand Canyon that he had dreamed of completing, it wasn't for a lack of trying, as the boxes of photographs and negatives attest. He is survived by his son, sister, brother, stepmother, and many cousins, friends and colleagues. Preceded in death by his wife, mother and father. A memorial service will be held Saturday December 4 at 3 :00 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1760 Fremont Drive. The family would like to thank Drs. Gallivan, III 1980 ~ 2004 John W Gallivan, III, died November 26, 2004. "J.W." was born in Salt Lake, May 11, 1980. He spent his grade school years in Avon, CT and Columbus Ohio, returning to Utah in 1995. Most recently he has been building a concert booking business. J.W. is survived by his grandfather, John W. Gallivan, parents, Stephanie and Jack Gallivan, Jr., sisters, Amy (Dru) Damico, Salt Lake City and Katherine, San Francisco. He was the devoted uncle of Daniel Romeo Damico, 8 months old. Hall, Geneva C. Geneva C. Hall1916 ~2004 Geneva C. Hall, age 88, passed peacefully from this life at her home, Sunday, November 28th, 2004. She was born April 8th, 1916, Syracuse, Utah to Raydolph Cook and Martha Ann Day. She grew up working hard on the family farm and learned to sacrifice at an early age. She married Melvin M. Hall on July 23rd, 1937. She continued to live a life of service and devotion to her family, caring for her severely handicapped daughter, Terrell, whom she cared for in her home for 44 years. She was a gifted cook, seamstress, enjoyed doing projects around the house, gave haircuts, and was good at sports. She had a sense of humor and was often asked to emcee special events. She was a long-term volunteer at the Salt Lake Handicapped Center. She is survived by her son, Dennis (Georgia) Hall of Rolla, MO; daughter, Marva (Alan) Seegmiller, two sisters, nieces and nephews, four granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and four great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Melvin M. Hall and her daughter, Terrell Ann Hall. Homer, Inez Jocosia Whitehead Inez Jocosia Whitehead Homer 1907 ~ 2004 Inez Jocosia Whitehead Homer passed away at the home of her daughter Donna Mills, Nov. 27, 2004. Born Feb. 12, 1907 in Bench, Idaho. She was the second of eight children of John William Whitehead and Edith Mariah Hubbard Whitehead. She graduated from Downey, Idaho High School. She married Edmund Homer in the Logan Temple January 25, 1928. She and Edmund spent many years in Montana where their five children were born. In 1944 the family moved to Salt Lake City where they owned and operated neighborhood grocery stores at 8th South and 6th East, 3rd East and Bryan Ave., and 6th East and Emerson Ave. She retired from Woolworth Store after 17 years of service. She is survived by four of her five children: Eldon (LuJean); Donna (Robert) Mills; Lee (Gwen) Homer; Coreen (William) Jensen; sister Afton Gibbs, and brothers Lowell, Wallace (Alice) and Junior (Ann) Whitehead; 22 grandchildren, 90 great-grand-child-ren and 11 great-great-grand-children. Jones, Leslie Canfield Leslie Canfield Jones 1917 ~ 2004 Leslie Canfield Jones died Nov. 26, 2004, at his home in Pahrump, NV of cancer. He was born Sept. 2, 1917, in St. George, Utah, to William Henry and Edna Canfield Jones. He spent his life in Utah, California and Oregon before moving to Pahrump in 2002. He served in the U.S. Army dur-ing World War II. He was employed with the Bureau of Reclamation for more than 30 years. He was a lifelong member of the LDS Church where he held many positions in various wards. He loved life and was happiest helping family and friends.He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Norma Madsen Kump Jones; children and stepchildren, Nelda (Marc) Griffin of South Dakota, Walt (Leona) Jones and Beryl (Trish) Jones of California, Kathy (Dean) Barnes, Robert L. He was born the youngest of six to Marvin and Roberta Lawhon, Darlington, SC on January 21, 1933. Survived by son, Lloyd Jr-Woody Lawhon (Paula) Anchorage, AK; daughters, Dee Gainer (Red) South Jordan, UT; Danell Parsons (Jay) West Valley City, UT; Melissa McMillan (Scott) Overton, NV; stepdaughter, Marla Marshall (Jim) Sacramento, CA; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grand-children; sisters, Edna Rae Covington, Willie Rie Easterling and brother, Allen Lawhon all of South Carolina. Having been raised in a small farm community, Lloyd was no stranger to hard work. His career included farming, machinist, meatpacker and truck driver. He and his first wife Jackie Crowley Lawhon Curt (Ray), Caldwell, ID moved their family to Utah in 1958 where he dedicated the next 17 years raising his young family. In 1975 Lloyd relocated to Sacramento, CA and re-married to Nola Da'Re who preceded him in death in 1999. His favorite things included fishing, camping, motorcycle riding and telling tall tales only he could get away with. His sly little smile and quick wit will be missed and always remembered and cherished by those who knew and loved him. Moon, Bruce Hess Bruce Hess Moon 1943 ~ 2004 KAYSVILLE - Bruce Hess Moon, the gentle giant, 61, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004 at home. He was born April 6, 1943 in Tremonton, Utah the son of Evan Westwood and Sarah Ann Hess Moon. He married Kathleen Stayner and was later divorced. He married Teri Moon, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, March 3, 1997. Bruce loved hunting, fishing, horseback riding, camping, and being outdoors. He worked outdoors all his life as a carpenter. He loved to build things. Bruce served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1965. He served on the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Bon Hom Richard in the South China Sea during the Vietnam War. Poulsen, Kenneth Martin Kenneth Martin Poulsen 1926 ~ 2004 Kenneth Martin Poulsen, born Feb. 15, 1926 to Joseph Richard and Emma Elizabeth Pehrson Poulsen in Union, Utah. He died Nov. 27, 2004 in Murray, Utah.He attended Union Elementary, Union Jr. High, and Jordan High School. Graduated from Salt Lake Area Vocational School (S.L.C.C.) with a two-year diploma in auto mechanics. He served in the Navy in World War II aboard the battleship USS New Jersey. Kenneth married Violet "Vi" June Nielson on June 5, 1950 in Salt Lake City, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a faithful member of the LDS church serving in many different positions. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier retiring after 20 years of service. He drove school bus for Murray School District for 15 years and retired from there. Survived by his wife, Vi; daughters, Chris (Burke), and Beth; son, Kirk (Bonnie); six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Violet) and Delbert (Aileen); brother-in-law, Donald (Lila). He married Priscilla Clifton on October 3, 1942. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church. Reid served in the U.S. Navy-construction battalion during World War II. He was employed for a total of 42 years in the Ore Haulage Department of Kennecott Copper, as a locomotive engineer, retiring in 1984. Survivors include his loving wife, Priscilla; his children, Pamela (Charles) Skogg, Jill Cahill and Jeffery (Dawn) Rowberry; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He married Karen Johnstun on August 20, 1970 in the Salt Lake Temple. Graduated from Brigham Young University. Bob and Karen raised their family in Portland, OR for 30 years. Bob loved the outdoors, photography, being with his family and serving in his church callings. He was a wonderful dad and grandpa to the very end. Preceded in death by his parents. He was born on February 9, 1922, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and was raised in Stockton, California. He and his wife Nobue (Nancy) were married June 13, 1948, and resided in Salt Lake City. Taro cherished his many friendships which he easily made with his gracious manners and outgoing disposition. An avid gardener and fisherman, he loved the outdoors. He worked for more than 30 years at Poehlmann Hatchery until he sold his interest in the company. He then worked for O.C. Tanner Company managing their grounds and nurseries until he retired in 1993 at the age of 71. Taro is survived by his wife, Nobue (Nancy); their three children, Kathleen Logan, Carol (Dave) Houston, and Neil Sudoko; four grandchildren, Darren Logan, Erik Logan, Chelcey Houston and Alex Houston. Butler Zeeman on August 5, 1983 in Payson. Deven was raised in Delta and graduated from Delta High School in 2002. He was a great example to his brothers and sister.
