John S. Anderson Jr. "Jack" BLUFFDALE - A beloved sweetheart, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle returned home to be reunited with his earthly and heavenly mother and father. John S. Anderson Jr. ("Jack"), a friend to everyone, drowned in a canoeing accident surrounded by his professional friends while in Texas October 8, 2004. Born Sept. 7, 1945 in Charleston, South Carolina to John Silcox and Martha Roe Anderson. In 1989 out of his great love of hearing impaired children and education he joined Audio Enhancement and became a vital part in growing a world renowned company. Jack enjoyed the opportunities to travel and make friends nationwide. The deaf community embraced Jack for his unconditional love. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Jack was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he loved and served his Heavenly Father in many capacities. He was a true southern gentleman. Jack's most treasured times were spent with his loving wife, Claudia, and their children and grandchildren. There was never a substitute for Grandpa Jack. Jack strove to be known as the nicest man anyone would have known. Knowing that was more important than anything else. He will be forever missed. Aston, age 30, of Provo, Utah, formerly of Columbia, PA, died Tuesday at home of natural causes. He was the husband of Josefina Pena Perez of the Dominican Republic. Born in Columbia, he was the son of D. Michael and Alice Miller Aston. He was employed as a sales manager for PSA Marketing Company of Orem, Utah. He was a Columbia High School graduate, class of 1992, and Brigham Young University, class of 2003. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a church missionary in the Dominican Republic from 1998 to 2000. In addition to his wife and parents, are his brothers, Dale M., husband of Shawnelle (Carter) Aston of Lehigh, Utah, Frank M., husband of Renee (Groft) Aston, Columbia PA, twin brother, Todd M., husband of Tonya (Pelsinski) Aston of Landisville, and Eric M. Aston, living in the Bay Area of California; and sisters, JoAnn w/o Charles Marris, Jr. of Landisville, and Carol E. w/o Timothy Davis of Kearnes, Utah. He was also the uncle to nine nieces and seven nephews. His maternal grandparents, Franklin and Virginia (Thomas) Miller also survive. Brown, Alva Price Alva Price Brown 1935 ~ 2004 Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Alva Price Brown, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family October 9, 2004. Alva was born in South Jordan, UT Dec. 4, 1935 to Leslie W. and Hazel S. Price. She grew up and was educated in Arimo, ID. Later she married Larry Dean Brown Nov. 14, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they had two daughters and five sons. She also retired after 20 years of service at Brighton High School. Alva held many callings in the church, most recently serving an inter-city mission with Larry in the Rose Park 1st Ward. She loved working in her garden and the hummingbirds that visited there. She was a great cook who loved having her family over to "pick." Her family (especially grandchildren) were her greatest joy. She is survived by her husband, Larry of nearly 49 years; and seven children, Karla (Guy), Jerilyn (Har-ley), Cory (Ruth), Darren, Jay (Marlo), Greg (Vickie), Ryan (Pam). Her father; two sisters; and four brothers also survive her. She was preceded in death by her mother and older sister. Alva has 18 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and five foster grandchildren. Born in Manila, Daggett Co., Utah, September 15, 1927, son of Leonard Erastus and Beulah Eleanor Larsen Christensen.Bruce was raised in West Los Angeles, where he attended UCLA, and later entered the Navy. When he returned to Utah, he attended BYU, where he met Patricia Kay Bickmore. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1949.After graduating from BYU, they moved to San Diego, CA, where Bruce started a successful dental laboratory, and the later became President of the Southern California Dental Association. They remained in California for 26 years, where they raised their four children, and also developed life long friendships. In 1976, the family returned to Provo. Bruce retired in 1994, allowing a dream to be fulfilled, and together he and Pat served a mission. They were called to the South Dakota, Rapid City Mission, where they worked with the Native Americans, whom they had always had a special fondness for. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in various callings, which included several bishoprics. His pride and joy were his children and grandchildren, but all of these passions were surpassed by his love of the Savior, and the gospel.Bruce was BYU's #1 sports fan. He loved swimming in the ocean, golfing, traveling and in his earlier years he was a star baseball pitcher. He is survived by his sweet wife Pat, whom he had just celebrated his 55thanniversary with; two sons, Kent (MaryAnn) of Provo; Brian (Rita) of Springville; two daughters, Becky (Jack) Angus of Provo; and Shelly (Rick) Norton of Ramona, CA; 15 grandchildren and three great-grand-children. Also survived by a brother David Christensen and a sister, Joyce Christensen.He was a friend to all, and influenced many lives. He was much admired as a man of great integrity. Fassio, Chester Chester Fassio 1913 ~ 2004 Arrivederci Papa Chester Fassio, 91, passed away at his home with his loving wife, Kay, by his side on October 7, 2004 after a long and rewarding life. He was born on May 19, 1913 in Diamondville, Wyoming. He moved to Hunter, Utah with his parents, James and Delfina Enrietti Fassio, in 1915 after a family tragedy. This site was to become the home of Fassio Egg Farms which is in its fourth generation of family management. Chester attended Whittier and Monroe Elementary Schools and graduated from Cyprus High School. In 1942 he married Katherine (Kay) Uzelac. They enjoyed 62 years together and had three children Paulette, Dick and Kristine. Chester was a charter member of the Granger Lions Club, President of Utah Egg Council for six years, and two years as President of the National Egg Council. He also spent two years on the American Egg Board. He spent 11 years on the Board of Intermountain Farmers and 6 years on the Salt Lake County Farm Bureau Board. In 1966, he was named "Poultryman of the Year". In 1992, Chester was inducted into the West Valley City Hall of Fame. He and Kay were honored with the Judge Memorial Catholic High School Award of Service in 2000. Chester served on the Board of Alpine Country Club and is a Past President. He also was a member of Jeremy Ranch Golf Club Board of Trustees. His incredible generosity and compassion were shown by his support of Judge Memorial Catholic High School, St. Francis Xavier School, St Joseph's Villa, Madeleine Choir School, and Holy Cross Hospital to name a few. He is survived by his wife, Kay, daughters, Paulette (Fred) Tedesco and Kris (Mike) Kladis, son, Dick (Joy) Fassio, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren, brother, Silvio (Ann) Fassio, and sister, Lucille (George) Strelich; and many dear and loving family members in Ozegna and Rivarolo, Italy. Flanigan, Nellie Nellie Flanigan 1914 ~ 2004 Nellie Viola Larrabee Flanigan, age 90, died 9 October 2004 at Iron County Nursing Home in Parowan, Utah of causes incident to age. She was born 24 August 1914 in Salt Lake City, Utah the youngest of 11 children to Thomas T. and Martha Gowin Larrabee. She graduated from East High School. While employed as a stenographer/legal secretary for Irvine, Skeen, and Thurman she met Elsworth Flanigan. They married 15 August 1933 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had six children, Jackie (Willis, deceased) Robinson of Taylorsville, UT, Joy (deceased) Ralph Sharp of Sandy, UT, Lark (Georgia) Flanigan of Enoch, UT, Glenna (Michael) Gibbons Scottsdale, AZ, Denise (deceased), Shane Flanigan of Cedar City, UT. She has 21 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren. One of the highlights of her working career was being the secretary at the LDS Institute in Cedar City for 13 years. She and Elsworth served an LDS mission in Tennessee, which they enjoyed very much. She also worked in the St. George Temple, was a Primary president, and served in many other church callings. Her parents family, living in the Eastern States, converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and moved to Salt Lake City, where their last two children were born. Nellie was able to get acquainted with many of the cousins in Pennsylvania and New York when returning from their mission. She was very grateful for the opportunity to see the birthplace of some of her family. Jessie D.Lindsay 1927 ~ 2004 Jessie Davenport Lindsay, 77, passed away Oct. 9, 2004 in Salt Lake City, UT from cancer that she has fought against for the past 14 years. She was born to Orson and Mary May Roadhouse Davenport Jan. 17, 1927 in St. Anthony, ID. Jessie married Dennis Lindsay Nov. 5, 1973, in Elko, NV. When Jessie was born, doctors told her mother that she wouldn't be able to walk because of her deformity in her feet and lower legs, but her mother with many hours and love was able to give her the ability to walk. Though this was a difficult disability, she had the determination to continue her education at the LDS business college and later she went to beauty school to become a manicurist. She worked at this profession for 30 years at ZCMI. She made many friends at her job and was loved and admired by all who knew her. She took full advantage of her life and she loved the outdoors, going fishing, and spending time at the cabin with her husband. Jessie and Dennis had no children of their own, but she loved Dennis' children and grand children form a previous marriage as if they were her own. Graveside services will be held Thursday Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. at Taylorsville City Cemetery (4500 S. Redwood Rd.). Visitation will be Wednesday Oct. 13, at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary (4760 S. He was a caring individual with humor and was highly regarded and loved by all. He was open to people and accepted them without judgment. He was an unconditional, loyal and loving friend. Dick was born October 9, 1934 in Washington D.C. to George B. and Mary Swimley Listul. He graduated from Weiser High School, Weiser, Idaho where he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football. Dick was offered a semi-pro baseball contract. He married LaRue Wright Dreier in 1958. Dick and LaRue were married for 46 years. Their life together was a true love story. They were lovers, best friends, and their souls were entwined. They loved each other always. Dick served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a gen-eral manager for General Motors and in motorcycle and car sales. They transferred to Jackson, Mississippi and on to San Francisco, where Dick and LaRue resided for 17 years and had many fond memories and dear friends. They retired and returned to Salt Lake City in 2002. Dick continued to enjoy baseball and golf. Dick is survived by his wife, LaRue Listul; son, Guy Dreier (Betsy); granddaughter, Alix; brother, Robert G. Listul; sister-in-law, Suzanne Wright; and several nieces and nephews. He was born August 28, 1932 in Helper, UT to Shozo and Teruchiyo Niwa. While attending school and participating in sports, he helped his parents with the family business, Central Cleaners. He graduated from the College of Eastern Utah and Utah State University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Katherine Keiko Wada in 1963. He was employed with Hercules, Inc., until his retirement in 1992. During his retirement, he worked at the Delta Center ushering his favorite Utah Jazz games. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening, and fishing. He especially enjoyed being a new grandpa. He is survived by his wife; and children, Michael, Wendy, and Jeffrey (Kathleen); granddaughter, Abigail; brother, Kayo; and sisters, Kazuko Okino and Pat Ninomiya; Aunt Alice Kasai; nieces and nephews. Frank assisted the war effort in World War II with his sheet metal work, and ran various business ventures in Utah and California. He was a high priest in the LDS Church and served missions in Hawaii and Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Linda Wilcox (Vince) DeSimone; sons, F. Stewart (Gisela) Player, San Leandro, California, and David (Robin) Player, Escondido, California. Opal was born November 19, 1910 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the first of nine children born to James Walter Gilbert and Fannie Bacca Lambson. She grew up in the Mormon colonies of Chuichupa and Pacheco in Chichuahua, Mexico. After leaving Mexico she lived most of her adult life in Arizona and Southern California. Being in poor health she has lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Wayland and Viola Ashmore, in Fruit Heights, for the past seven years. A faithful Latter-day Saint, she resided in the Hidden Valley Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survived by sons, Edwin Francis Fenn (Gail), Centerville, Earl Walter Jorgenson (Roma), Melbourne, Australia; six grandchildren; 21 great-grand-children; and three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, James Claude Gilbert (Hazel), Payson, AZ, Donald Walter Gilbert, Thousand Oaks, CA; sister, Viola Gilbert Ashmore (Wayland), Fruit Heights; and the loving nieces and nephews who gave loving support during her last few months. She was born April 17, 1914 in Torrey, Utah to Martin A. and LaVenia Huntsman Nielson. Zelpha loved gardening, was an accomplished seamstress and avid reader. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as Relief Society counselor and visiting teacher. She was the former president of the Sugarhouse Rotary-Ann Club; secretary-receptionist at the old Trade Tech; secretary at the U of U School of Social Work; did volunteer work at the University Hospital and at Community Family Services. She married Dwendon A. Teeples in 1932; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died in 1962. She married Wilford F. Kay in 1967. He died in 1973. She later married Paul E. Thompson in 1974. He preceded her in death June 28, 2003. Zepha is survived by two sons, Dwendon Dale (Wilhelmina) Teeples of St. George, W. Niel (Donna) Teeples of Bountiful; two daughters, Carol T. Wightman, Eric Matthew Eric Matthew Wightman 1980 ~ 2004 Eric Matthew Wightman returned to his Heavenly Father October 8, 2004, at the age of 24. Eric was born February 13, 1980 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Paul and Barbara Wightman. The fourth of six children, Eric always sought to distinguish himself. His life was dedicated to family and friends. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed being an EMT, and working with fire prevention services. Eric will always be remembered for his strong point of view, his never-ending sense of humor, his infectious laugh, and his inquisitive nature ("Whaaaaat?"). All who were around him will remember him for his creative homemade birthday cards and his opinion about EVERYTHING. His talents with audio/video productions amazed all of us. He used all his talents for family and friends. He had an unrelenting pursuit for uniqueness. We will all dearly miss his ability to create laughter all around. His continual Simpsonesque anecdotes and outrageous Star Wars collection will forever be treasured. Eric had so many wonderful friends, always with listening ears and helpful hearts. Thanks to you all! Eric will be so missed, especially by his family. He was such a special son, brother, grandson, and uncle. Eric is survived by parents, Paul and Barbara Wightman; sister, Charree Haislip; brothers, Andy (Lisa), Micah (Fumiko), Danny, and Brent; grandparents, Harry and Phyllis Evans; numerous cousins; as well as uncles, aunts; niece, Kylee; and nephew Brady. A viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary at 4760 S. State St. Tuesday, October 12 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the LDS church, 9636 S. 1700 E. in Sandy Wednesday, October 13 at 12 noon, with a viewing from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens at 1950 E. 10600 S.
