He graduated from Yucaipa High School in 1972 and from the University of San Bernardino in 1986. He married Grace Yvonne Eaton on February 15, 1974 in Los Angeles, CA. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many church positions over the years. He served in the United States Air Force. He loved genealogy work and taking pictures of all the family activities. He loved to sing silly songs to his family, traveling, reading and collecting dragon figurines. He worked for Amtrak Passenger Rail Road for 18 years until his death. Prior to that he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 12 years. Gary is survived by his loving wife, Grace of 30 years; parents, Edward Lyle and Bessie Bowler; brothers, Dean and Tony; sisters, Tanya and Kris; children, Scarlett, Lisa, Genesa, Bethany and Tamara; grandchildren, Felicity, Gavin, Isabelle, Nickolas, Makayla and Jessica. He will be greatly missed by his family and co-workers. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Addis; brother, Kim and his paternal and maternal grandparents. Bracken, a caring husband, father, brother, and grandfather passed away peacefully early Saturday morning October 16, 2004 at the age of 90. He was born August 2, 1914 in Roosevelt, UT to George and Ellen Todd Bracken. Karl was the oldest of eight children. He graduated from Roosevelt High and went on to serve our country in World War II from 1942-1945 as part of the U.S. Army 71st Infantry Division where he was awarded a Bronze Star. Karl worked for Grey-hound while attending the U of U and the LDS Business College. He married the love of his life, Donna M. Leishman, June 11, 1948 in Elko, NV. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. In 1984 he retired from the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier.He loved fishing, tying flies, and took pride in his yard and small garden. Over the years he also enjoyed watching his granddaughters participate in sporting events. He and Donna also enjoyed fitness classes at the Heritage Center. Karl is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Terry; daughters, Kim Bracken Hood and Kristine Bracken Carling; sisters, Ardis Kettle, Rhea Pool; granddaughters, Chanda Carling and Rochelle Hood. Eggett "Foursome Complete" Jane passed away October 13, 2004 of natural causes. She was born February 25, 1922 to Carl and Grace Weenig in Salt Lake City, UT. Jane married the love of her life and her life long companion, William I. Eggett, III, February 9, 1944. They saw good times and hard times, but they did it together. Jane, a fantastic homemaker, spent her younger married life raising four children. You could always talk to Jane about your problems and successes. She would always give you her full attention and make you feel that you were special in her life. Her positive attitude always made you feel that you could accomplish anything. Jane and Bill made their home a welcoming place for all who came to visit. They spent the last 20 years traveling together in their motor home. They loved to travel to the warm parts of the country in the winter with their friends, golfing wherever they could. In the summer months, they spent time with their family in their home in Sandy. They loved to golf at Alpine Country Club, where they were one of the first members to join. Grant, Shirley Ann Thomas Shirley Ann Thomas Grant 1942 ~ 2004 Our loving wife, mother and grandmother, Shirley Ann Thomas Grant, age 62, passed away at home in Mesquite, Nevada on October 14, 2004. She returned home to her loving Heavenly Father and long waiting open arms of her two children, Lynnand Melissa. Shirley fought a valiant battle with cancer, determined not to leave her family behind, as she was so looking forward to sharing her retirement with her eternal companion, Dick. She was a tireless mother, with a deep concern for her children. She was so very proud of her new home and all of the sun that surrounded it. She will be dearly missed by those she had bestowed her love upon. Shirley was born June 16, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah, daughter of Owyn Farnes and Bernice Gee Thomas. She married Richard Alfred Grant on November 29, 1958 in Magna, Utah; solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on November 12, 1959. She loved to crochet baby shawls and baby booties which she freely gave to family and friends alike. She worked for over twenty years with Valley Bank/Bank One, where she had not only many loyal customers, but also many friends. Shirley was an active member of the LDS Church, having served in various positions throughout her life. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her sweetheart, her children and her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Dick; son, David E. Grant; daughter, Lori (Mike) Kelsey; grandchildren: Brandon, Jadie, Cole, Ryeley and Raines; her aunt, Elaine Hall; and extended family members Nanette, Troy, Lynne and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard Lynn; and daughter Melissa. Hunsaker 1921 ~ 2004 Edith Mabel Viola (Fogelberg) Hunsaker, age 83, passed away Oct. 15, 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born March 18, 1921 to Johan David Fogelberg and Anna Josephine Engelbrektson in Stockholm South Dakota. She was married to Howard A. May, September 18, 1947 (divorced) and Darwin Austin Hunsaker, July 26, 1986 in the Jordan River Temple in West Jordan, Utah.Edith was raised in South Dakota on a farm where she learned to be an honest, God fearing person who understood the value of hard work. After graduation she received a teaching certificate, taught school for a short time, then served two stints in the Armed Forces, being stationed overseas, where she met Howard. After their marriage they moved to Washington state where Edith raised her four children and taught elementary school. She loved doing Family History research and temple work. After she retired she moved to Salt Lake City where she served in the Family History library and where she met and married Darwin. Edith had a full life. She left a legacy of kindness, faithfulness, and service for her family and friends. Edith is survived by her children Sharon L. Ludwig (husband Eugene), Shirley Ann McLendon (husband David) Russell H. May (wife Dedie), and Richard A. May (wife Malinda); by Darwin's children Linda Hunsaker, Scott Hunsaker (wife Linda), and Sherylee Hankinson (husband Paul); and by her brother Henry Fogelberg and sister Alice Mayer (husband Don). Edith was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Harold, Elmer and Victoria, and by her husband Darwin Hunsaker. Johnson, Evelyne Alma Evelyne Alma Johnson 1913 ~ 2004 Evelyne Alma Johnson, 91, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away October 14, 2004 in Sandy, Utah. Born July 16, 1913, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Nellie Eldredge and Elroy Barney Wilkins. Early years were growing up in Roosevelt and subsequently graduating from University of Utah. Following graduation from U of U, she completed training at the Bishop Johnson School of Nursing, graduating and receiving a credential as a registered nurse. During this time she met and married her eternal companion of 63 years, Clyde L. Johnson. Her nursing career began as county public nurse for the State of Utah. When the family moved to Los Altos, California, in 1953, she served as supervisor of nursing at Santa Clara Co. Valley Medical Center until she retired. Upon retirement the family moved to Kanab, Utah, and later to Sandy, Utah. She was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survived by son Larry M. Johnson (Judy) and daughter Rebecca Jones (Mark), three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Link, Lendell Lyman Lendell Lyman Link 1917 ~ 2004 BRIGHAM CITY Lendell Lyman Link 87, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2004 in Brigham City. Lendell was born March 30, 1917 a son of Gustave Link and Lula Mabel Chase Link. He married Beverly Consuella Benson August 4, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple August 6, 1956. Lendell served in the Army Air Corp during World War II, and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1969. He was a member of the Vet-erans of Foreign Wars and the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.Lendell was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as branch president, stake executive secretary, ward clerk and served as a temple worker for several years. His latest calling was serving with his wife as a greeter at their ward. Surviving are his wife, Beverly, Brig-ham City; children, Jeffrey Len (Sharon) Link, Riverside, CA, Janet Link (Paul) Madsen, Kent, WA, and Renee Link (Max) Woolsey, Brigham City; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lew Link; and sisters, Lila Kroh and Laura Link. Nelson, Kiersten Jean Kiersten JeanNelson Our Princess in Pink Kiersten Jean Nelson returned to her Father in Heaven Oct. 16, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kiersten was born September 19, 1983 to loving parents Mark and Cindy Nelson. She will be missed by her devoted brother, Nicholas Nelson; grandmother, Evelyn Nelson; and many family members and friends. She was welcomed home with open arms by grandparents, Arvel Nelson, and Douglas and Gloria Bischoff. Kiersten graduated from Kearns High in 2002 where she was a member of the band and Color Guard. She was currently attending Salt Lake Community College. She had bright blue eyes that were a window to her sweet spirit. Kiersten was a caring, giving, happy person whose smile brightened everyone's day. Nuttall, Kathryn Schneider (Kay) Kathryn (Kay) Schneider Nuttall 1920 ~ 2004 Kay returned to her Heavenly Father peacefully October 15, 2004, in Orem, Utah. She was 84 years old and enjoyed a full life dedicated to family and church. She served in many volunteer capacities, primarily with the Boy Scouts of America and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Kay was born April 8, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah the daughter of Hyrum and Elmira Schneider. She married Hubert Vernon Nuttall, in the Salt Lake Temple, June 21, 1943. They enjoyed 32 years of marriage, and Hub preceded her in death June 7, 1975. Following their World War II years, they lived and raised their children in Southern California. Most recently she resided in St. George and Orem, Utah. In her later years she has enjoyed traveling and visits with family. Kay is a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her four children, Phyllis (Robert) Bray of Cary, North Carolina, David (Mary-Ann) Nuttall of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Larry (Kathy) Nuttall of Eagle Mountain, Utah, and Becky (Gary) Quick of Lexington, Kentucky. She has 26 grandchildren and 21 great-grand-children. Kay is also survived by her sister, Camilla (Frederick) Smyth of Walnut Creek, California; and her brother, Noland (Patricia) Schneider of Salt Lake City, Utah. He loved and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed the mountains and working in his garden, and had a passion for books. He leaves behind his greatest achievement, daughter Vivianna San-ich; as well as Ashley Bridwell; his brother, Chuck Sanich; sister, Jen Bent-ley (Bill); half-siblings, Jeff, Toni, and Niki; father, Larry Sanich (Debbie); mother, Joyce Marinoni; his soul mate and friend, Shannon Johnson; and stepdaughter, Layla. Spear, Ellen Lora Ellen Lora Spear 1917 ~ 2004 Ellen Lora Spear died quietly Saturday, October 16, 2004 in Salt Lake City after a short, sudden bout with cancer. Lora was born March 8, 1917 to Howard L. and Priscilla Duffin and lived in Salt Lake City all of her life. She was a lifelong member of the LDS Church. Twice married and divorced, she was a devoted single parent in a time much less supportive than today. Lora was bright, independent, iron-willed and possessed a wry sense of humor. A dedicated employee with an uncompromising work ethic, Lora had a career of increasing responsibility from bookkeeper, credit and office manager to accountant and corporate secretary. She loved travel and playing the piano and organ. Throughout her life Lora made great sacrifices for her loved ones and was known for her generosity to her family. She is survived by her son, Derek C. Kaufman, and his partner, Luiz A. Manzo; grandchildren, Bryan Derek and Johanna M. Kaufman; her brother, Vaughn H. Duffin; and nieces, Lisa Johnson and Pamela Call. She was preceded in death by her sister, Melba Duffin. Tingey, Troy Dean Troy Dean Tingey 1969 ~2004 God saw you getting tired so he whispered "Come to me". Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A precious heart stopped beating, a body now at peace. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best. Troy passed away following surgery October 14th, 2004. Born February 18, 1969 in Salt Lake City, Troy's full life began when two wonderful loving parents, Rolland and Leona, adopted Troy and brought him home to complete their family, where he was welcomed by all his extended family, friends and neighbors. He graduated from East High, later serving his LDS mission in Arcadia Calif. His most recent job included work at the Garden Restaurant where he was surrounded by friends and the public he loved. His optimistic personality, sense of humor, love for movies and pure sweet singing voice only partly describes this magical and very special man. Survived by his father, Rolland Tingey, stepmother Betty, brother Todd, sister Traci Wisniewski, and brother-in-law Don; nieces, Alisha Lowe Maroney and Erica Rae Wisniewski; nephews, Todd Tingey Jr. and Brian Michael Wisniewski; step-siblings include Toni, Steven, David, Charles, John and Cathy, along with many cousins, aunts, and uncles. Weiss, Harvey Carl Harvey Carl Weiss "Our Hero" Harvey Carl Weiss, 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, died peacefully on October 13, 2004 of kidney failure at San Diego Hospice. He was born May 25, 1920 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Carl Ernest and Alta Hannah Harvey Weiss. He married LaVoyle (Sally) Wilkins October 21, 1941; she passed away April 10, 1978. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He loved again and married Carolann Phalan April 20, 1984. Harvey enjoyed a good and full life; he did everything he wanted to do and more. He retired as a Navy Chief Petty Officer, San Diego Police Sergeant and Special Ed teacher. He was the County of San Diego's 1992 Volunteer of the Year. He taught AARP's 55 Alive safe driving course. He worked at the election polls and regularly went into the schools to speak about Pearl Harbor. He could talk with anyone and loved to tell his stories. He was very patriotic and loved his country. He belonged to the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assn., Chapter 3, Nathaniel Parmenter Assn., Crossroad Lodge and several others. Harvey is survived by his wife of 20 years, Carolann Weiss; son, Max Harvey Weiss, West Jordan; stepdaughter, Marvett Hunter, San Diego; nine grandchildren; 12 great - grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Rudolph and Gertrude Schilling; grandson, BJ Addison. A public service celebrating Harvey's life will be held on Saturday, October 23, at 12:00 noon, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road. Wells, Lewis Franklin Lewis Franklin Wells 1920 ~ 2004 Lewis Franklin Wells, 84, died Friday, October 15, 2004 at his home in Holladay where his family has lived for the past 45 years. He was born in Lakeview, Utah on August 6, 1920, the eldest son of George F. and Malicent Clegg Wells. He attended the old Vineyard School, then Lincoln High School in Orem, graduating in 1938. Following an LDS Mission to California, he married Helen Henrichsen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 15, 1942. They became the parents of nine children. Lewis enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 and served through the end of World War II as a B-17 bomber pilot with the 95th Bomb group of the 8th Air Force in the European theater. He was awarded the Air Force medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters and recently, The Polish Cross for his participation in what he said was his best mission - the food drop over Warsaw in September of 1944 and continuing with the famous "Shuttle Mission" through Italy and France. After returning home, Lewis completed his education on the GI Bill, graduating from BYU in 1948 with a degree in petroleum geology. He worked for Sun Oil Co. in Salt Lake and Wyoming and was later involved in independent mining and oil exploration with his sons. He is survived by his widow, Helen Wells, and eight children: Lorna Rice ( Carl James) and Mary Lou Royle (Kenneth), California; L. Frank Wells Jr.(Kimberli Giauque), New Mexico; Ann Anderson (Stuart), Holladay; John (Joelyn Rowen) of Sandy; Paul (Jone Storey), Roosevelt; Steven (Patricia Hunsaker), New Mexico; and Janette Lewis (David) of Murray. He is also survived by sisters and brothers, Merlene Bailey, Provo, Leland J. Wells of Montana; William T. Wells of New Mexico and Wilda Larson of Richfield and by 33 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. His son LaMar, and grandson Brandon Wells, preceded him in death. Church service has included Sunday School Superintendent, Counselor in the Casper, Wyoming Branch Presidency and the West Central States Mission Presidency, Bishop' Counselor, Stake High Counselor, Gospel Doctrine Teacher and High Priests Group Leader. He was also a member of the Lion's Club for many years and an officer of the Holladay Chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. He also served a term as Mayor of Pleasant Grove. There will be a viewing at the Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Dr, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Services will be held Tuesday Oct 19, 2004 at the Holladay 28th Ward, 2625 Milo Way at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may visit 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. before the services.
