Kobe, Lawrence Donn Lawrence DonnKobe 1948 ~ 2004 PETERSON - Lawrence Donn Kobe, 56, passed away from injuries sustained from a fall, Monday, October 18, 2004. Larry was born to Lawrence L. and Alice Catherine Weber Kobe September 16, 1948 in Lewiston, Idaho. Larry and his mother joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1962 in Reno, Nevada. Dad was never able to deny with his life the truths of the gospel that he had been taught by those two missionaries so long ago in Reno. Dad always said that by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ the missionaries (Elder Kesler and Skousen) gave him a greater gift than they probably ever realized. At the age of 18, Larry began working for the US Postal Service from which he retired in October 2003. Larry married Jolene Rene‚ Bohman May 31, 1977 in the Ogden Temple. They have five wonderful children - four sons and one daughter. We were his helpers, and someday he would teach us everything. Everything is a lot to know, so he started teaching us young. He taught us about fixing stuff like motorcycles, microwaves, or any machine; about building stuff like tree houses, the New House, and our dreams. He taught us about rock climbing, repelling off cliffs, trees, or the roof of our house; about hiking and camping in deserts and exploring ghost towns. He taught us about pawnshops and songs about pawnshops on the corner that we now sing to golden-haired angels. He taught us about army stuff at Smith & Edwards and shooting stuff at Kents. He taught us about history and politics, and the problems of the world and how to solve them as we stayed up talking late at night. He taught us about adventures, how to dream and how to serve; and so we went to Kelton, to college, and served missions. He taught us that when he wanted to do something with his friends, he did something with us, because we were his friends. He taught us just how much he loved our mom, and that he would do anything for her and always be with her. He taught us how to love life, each other, and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Dad died doing what he loved best, working with his kids. Surviving are his wife, Jolene; sons, Kyle (Christy) of Salt Lake City, Utah; Trevor (Erin) of Peterson, Utah; Derek (Katie) of Herriman, Utah; Bret who is serving in the Morristown, New Jersey mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and daughter, Elise who is attending dental school at the University of Utah. Peterson, Marjorie Denise Schofield Marjorie Denise Schofield Peterson 1919 ~ 2004 MADISON, WI - Marjorie Denise Schofield Peterson, age 84, of 6 Quarterdeck Drive, Madison, Wisconsin, died of cancer at a local hospice on Tuesday, October 12, 2004, just days after it was diagnosed. She was born on December 23, 1919 in Provo, Utah. She married Clinton E. Peterson of Vernal, Utah on August 23, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mrs. Peterson was educated at Brigham Young University and became secretary to the Governor of Utah before she was married. The Petersons lived in Ames, Iowa while her husband completed his Ph.D. in Horticulture at Iowa State University. In 1954, they moved to Okemos, Michigan where he was on the faculty of Michigan State University. In 1968, her husband joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin, where he worked until his death in 1987. She continued to be active and to live in her home until two weeks before her passing. She was a volunteer at her church her entire life, including acting as president of the women's organization, the Relief Society for 23 consecutive years while in Michigan and Wisconsin. She was known for her administrative skills and capacity to serve, spending endless hours on the telephone to counsel and support those in need. She enjoyed baking, sewing and doing jigsaw puzzles, but there nearly always seemed to be a pressing call or a visit, a meal or a service to provide that took precedence over her own interests and comforts. She embodied faith and Christian virtues to all who knew her. She was committed to community service, and during more than ten years served as the President of The Wisconsin Friends of Public Broadcasting, giving input and voicing concern for quality radio programming. She also joined the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and actively supported its causes during two decades. Mrs. Peterson had five children and enjoyed raising her family. She was interested in learning of those who were pioneers among her ancestors, gathered genealogical records of her family, and she regularly traveled with friends to the LDS Chicago Temple to give service. Smith, Marjorie Silver Marjorie Silver Smith 1918 ~ 2004 When Papa first noticed Mama across a crowded dance floor at a Rotary Club Christmas Party in 1939, she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Less than two months later Marjorie Silver agreed to become Mrs. Richards Grant Smith and they were married on November 8th, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple by the groom's grandfather, Heber J. Grant. Together they built a life founded on devotion to their family. After the death of Marjorie's father, Clarence W. Silver, they made sure to always include her mother, Mamie Richards Silver, and they raised three children; Richard Lynn (Eliisa), David Grant (Carol) and Marjorie Ellen Skidmore (Jim). In addition to numerous church callings, Mama and Papa served in the Central City Mission in Liberty Stake, traveled extensively, and spent summers at their cabin in Mt. Air Canyon. We could always count on them to be there. Every holiday, every sporting event, and every school play was punctuated with Mama's supportive presence. Their 60-year union was interrupted in March of 2000 when Papa left this life. His last words and final thoughts were of her. This past Tuesday, Mama left us to join Papa. Born December 15th, 1918, she was 85 years old. She is survived today by her children, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, brothers Roy (LaRae) and Larry (Mary Ellen) and sister Bonnie Haymond (George). She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Clarence and Lynn. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 23rd, 12:00 Noon at the Parleys 6th Ward Chapel, 2350 S. 2100 E. A viewing will be held Fri. evening at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive from 6-8 p.m. and at the chapel one hour prior to services. She will be buried alongside her husband in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. We remember Mama's many accomplishments. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was a graduate of South High School. She Received an Honor Award for 50 years of membership in Alpha Chi Omega. But most of all we remember her smile. Though we ache in our hearts that she is no longer here, we are comforted to know that somewhere, across a crowded dance floor, Papa is reaching once more for the woman of his dreams.
