Russell O Anderson 1948 ~ 2004 Russell O. Anderson, 55, passed away peacefully on Oct. 26, 2004. Russell was born Nov. 11, 1948 in Mount Pleasant, UT to LaRay N. Anderson and Mathel Walker Anderson. Russell graduated from North Sanpete High School, Snow College, and Utah State University. He completed his medical degree at University of Utah, followed by a residency in San Bernardino, California. He established his medical practice in North Logan where he continued until his retirement in 1998. He was a compassionate family physician whose caring service to the community is missed. He served a full-time mission to Ireland and enjoyed giving service in many church callings. He married Julianne Howell in the Manti LDS Temple Sept. 18, 1971, and their love continues eternally. Russell's greatest accomplishment was his loving dedication to his wife and children and his example to them in living the gospel of Jesus Christ. Russell is survived by his wife, Julianne Howell Anderson, and six children, Richelle (Andy) Lay, Shawn (Mindy), Bart, Derek, Kurt, Ashley, three grandchildren, his parents LaRay N. and Mathel W. Anderson, and his brothers Lester (Cindy), Guy, Spencer (Michelle), and Neal (Jina). He was preceded in death by his older brother Ivan L. Anderson. A public viewing will be held 6-8 pm on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004 at Allen-Cranney Mortuary 1800 N. 420 E. North Logan. Balli, Richard Earl Richard Earl Balli 1918 - 2004 Richard Earl Balli, completed his life's work on October 25, 2004.He was born Sept. 14, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Frederick Jakob Balli and Clara Elizabeth Schwaar. He married Ruth Marshall Balli on Sept. 14, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from East High School in 1936 and enrolled at the University of Utah shortly thereafter. His studies were interrupted in 1940 as he was one of first from Utah drafted into World War II. He served his country in the Army Air Corps from 1940 to 1945. He returned to the University of Utah and graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1946. The companies he worked for included the Royal Laundry, Fashion Fabrics, United States Smelting & Refining Company, and the Eimco Corp., from which he retired in 1980. He was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including ward clerk and advisor to the Aaronic Priesthood. He especially liked home teaching many families over the years. He enjoyed working in his garden, temple service, and serving others. He will be remembered for his kindness and sense of humor. He is survived by his wife Ruth, children Patti Balli, Steve Balli (Amy Balli), grandchildren Hailey, Samantha, and Cameron, sister Leone Fredrickson, brother Glenn (DeNiese), sister-in-law Bodell Balli, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred, and brother-in-law Les Fredrickson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 29, at the Canyon Rim Stake Center, 3051 S. 2900 E., at 12 noon. Blosch, Alma Leo Alma Leo Blosch Gone Fishing Alma Leo Blosch, Age 79, passed away October 26, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Al was born April 3, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Leo and Marie Rein Blosch. He graduated from West High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Chinese, Burma Theater. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was employed as an airplane sheet metal mechanic at Hill Field for 35 years. Al enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at Deer Creek Reservoir with his brothers and nephews. He is survived by his brothers Albert (Lila) and Rulon (Connie) Blosch and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his Mother and Father, brothers Nephi, Hyrum and Raymond Blosch, sisters Mary Benedict, Ruth Reese and Lucille Peay. Boone, Marjory Openshaw Marjory Openshaw Boone "Reunited" Marjory Openshaw Boone passed away Oct. 25, 2004 in Salt lake City. Marjory was born on May 24, 1919 in Santaquin, Utah to parents Floyd Rupert Openshaw and Dot Tietjen Openshaw. She married Wilfred Boone on Oct 31, 1936 and later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Her husband and family always came first. Survived by daughter, Carolyn Harding, Son, Stephen Wilfred (Jan) Boone, sisters, Elaine Nelson and Joyce Madsen, sister-in-law, Amber Openshaw, grandchildren Scott, Linda (Robert), Gregory, Eric and Lindsay, and great-grandchildren, Ryan (Emily), Brandi (Jordan) along with many nieces and nephews. Darley, Carl Thomas Carl Thomas Darley 1919 ~ 2004 Carl Thomas Darley, 85, passed away October 25, 2004 in Salt Lake City of complications from pneumonia. He was born June 21, 1919 in Portage, Utah to George and Mary Grace Darley. He served honorably during World War II and loved his life's work as an aircraft specialist that took him around the globe. He had an avid love for reading and learning. He married Zella Bassett, June 20, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple. She died during childbirth in 1948. He later was married to Lorraine Winger from 1942 to 1965. While working in Japan, he met and married Hisako Ishikawa. He lived in Japan for 30 years before returning to Utah in 1999. He was preceded in death by Zella, Hisako; his parents; a son, Bruce Thomas Darley; and a brother, Lloyd Darley. Survived by daughters, Kathleen Wedin (Galen), Patty Conn (Kemp), and Zella Dahlquist (Charles); Sisters Lola Yearout (Mike), Marie Garner (Eldon) and sister-in-law, Martha Darley; two brothers, Keith Darley (Maxine) and Grant Darley; grandchildren and great-grand-children. Greenlee Ferrin 1916 ~ 2004 Gretchen passed away peacefully on October 26, 2004 in Salt Lake City, from natural causes following a stroke. She was born March 13, 1916 in Heavener, Oklahoma, the first child of Victor Sylvester Greenlee and Luella Pannell Greenlee. After graduating from Springville High School where she enjoyed performing in theatrical productions, she moved to Salt Lake and worked as an office worker for the state government. She married Joseph M. Ferrin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 25, 1938. He died August 7, 1984. She loved her home, remodeling antique furniture and collecting dolls. Her hobby was buying and selling collectible dolls. She loved going out to dinner with her children, and loved visits with grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and neighbors. Survived by her children, Joyce Ann Munguia, Scott Ferrin, and David Ferrin (Nancy); four grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister Betty Rawlings; and numerous nieces and nephews. Foote, Cyril Warren Cyril Warren Foote1915 ~2004 Cyril Warren Foote, devoted husband, father and patriarch of his family passed away peacefully on October 27, 2004. He was born April 22, 1915 in Mayfield, Utah to Jacob and Elzina Hendricksen Foote. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as the first Branch President of the Dutch John Branch, a bishopric counselor, and many other callings. He was a very creative and resourceful man, a mechanic by trade but his true love was farming. He was well known for his beautiful well tended garden. He was also an avid fisherman and spent much of his time in retirement fishing alongside his wife Margaret. He invented a special tool known as the "Fish Popper" which people came from all over the Wasatch Front to purchase from him. He has spent the last decade of his life providing tender care for his beloved wife. He married Margaret Brox on February 3, 1937. They had 68 wonderful years together. Cyril is survived by his wife Margaret, his children Shirley (Dick) Cook, Audrey (Dick) Gum, Carma (Robert) Johnson, Gary (Cindy) Foote, and Carol (JD) Hellewell. He is also survived by a brother Elray Foote of Aurora, Utah and a sister Vera Mulford of Torrey, Utah. He has 28 grandchildren, 62 great-grand-children and 14 great-great- grand-children. She was born Nov. 19, 1928 in Neola, Utah the oldest of eight children to Alfred Dallas and Alta Florice (Chris) Labrum. She married Ola Willard Larsen, they later divorced and she then married her loving husband, Henry Murl Gibbins. Ires was tested beyond belief here on earth and now she can finally rest in peace. She served as an example of courage, love and determination to all of us. Her beautiful face, sweet soul and brave heart will live within us forever. Griffeth, passed away peacefully Tuesday October 26, 2004, at the age of 81, of natural causes.Born in Grover, Wyoming, April 6, 1923 to Anciel and Luella Griffeth, he was one of 10 children. He graduated from Star Valley High School, prior to attending Utah State University. He served his country with honor in World War II. At age 24, he married Ruth Maurine Gibbons, January 20, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple and then served an LDS mission in the Southern States. They were blessed with two daughters and four sons. LaVere was a master carpenter and general contractor and spent countless hours helping others with projects. He built several LDS chapels, personal residences, and commercial buildings in Utah and surrounding states. He loved and served his church in numerous positions, which made a difference in others lives. LaVere and Ruth served a mission in the Washington DC Temple. He has continued to serve in the Jordan River Temple for many years. Dad has countless friends, neighbors, and family that will truly miss him. LaVere is survived by six children: Patricia (George) Richards, Craig (Susan) Griffeth, Robert (Doreen) Griffeth, Gary (Claudia) Griffeth, Julia Griffeth Brown, Kent (Vicki) Griffeth; sisters, Mildred Griffeth and Maurine Steiner; 30 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; brothers, Delynne, Ariel, and Vaughn; sisters, Leora, Alta, Arvilla, and LeVelle. Jarman, salesman, businessman, and philanthropist died in an automobile accident while going to work on October 20, 2004. Jack was born to Walter and Cuba Jarman in Omaha Nebraska on February 8, 1922. He spent his early years on a Nebraska farm before moving to California. In 1937 the family moved to Salt Lake City and he entered East High as a sophomore. In 1942 he enrolled at the University of Utah (he was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi). He left the "U" to enter the Army Air Corp, where he was a link trainer instructor at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, until 1945 when he was discharged. In February 1943 he married Helen Hope Brown; he and Helen were married until her death in 1996. Jack loved and excelled at sports throughout his life, including track and field, skiing, fishing, and especially golfing at the Salt Lake Country Club. He will be remembered for his and Helen's, philanthropic efforts to a number of varied organizations including the Ballet West, Health Sciences Center at the University of Utah, Neighborhood House, Red Butte Gardens, Rowland Hall-Saint Marks School, the Salt Lake Art Center, Utah Symphony and Opera, the YWCA among many others. He was also on the Board of Directors of a number of these organizations and was particularly proud of his work with Rowland Hall and the Salt Lake Art Center. He and his wife Helen were avid art collectors, especially Western and Utah art, and loved supporting The Utah Museum of Fine Arts. He not only supported the arts, he was an artist of note; his best-known piece was the original Mr. Spudnut. As important as the organizations that Jack supported, were the numerous individuals that he also helped in one way or another; many people benefited from his friendship and support. In 1998 he began going with an old friend Mimi Mortensen. Mimi was his dear friend and companion. In this new phase of his life he and Mimi went on many wonderful adventures. The family cannot express their gratitude to her for making the last years of his life so full. Jack lived a life of giving and the joy. He was a true gentleman. We celebrate the greatness of his life and how grateful we were to be his children, grandchildren, and friend. When a man has lead such a magnificent life you cannot mourn his death, only celebrate it. He is survived by his brother Conrad (Norma) and four Children: John, Robert, Mary Jane (William C.) Kramer, Sidney Charles Sidney CharlesKramer 1914 ~ 2004 Sidney Charles Kramer returned peacefully to his Father in Heaven on Monday, October 25, 2004 after living a full life. Sid was born August 18, 1914 to Doretta Winkless and Herman Kramer. He was the first of four sons.Sid attended Granite High School where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. He was named to the All-State teams in both football and basketball, and received the schools top athlete award. Sid attended the University of Utah where he was chosen Captain of the basketball team in 1935, was all-conference, and was selected to the Kincaid All-America team. Sid was a running back and defensive back on the U of U football team. He was named All-Conference and All America honorable mention in 1935. Sid married the love of his life, Marjorie Heilbut, in 1942 and they have four children. Marge died in 1981. While working as a Salt Lake County Sheriff, Sid played baseball professionally for the Salt Lake Bees and professional football for the Salt Lake Seagulls. Later, he had careers in sales, and management. As a lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War II he traveled the world and survived the sinking of his ship by an enemy torpedo. We will remember Sid for his outstanding strength and courage and as a generous and loyal friend. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie and brother Leslie. He is survived by his children, Karren Gallacher (Gerald), Stephen (Sally), David (Deanna) and Scott C. Kramer; brothers Richard C. and Thomas V. Kramer. Sid was blessed with 15 wonderful grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The family wants to give a special thanks to the Elderly Manor and Hearts for Hospice staffs for their compassionate care. Landgren, Roy Taylor Roy Taylor Landgren 1956 ~ 2004 Roy Taylor Landgren, 48, passed away the morning of Tuesday, October 26 while doing what he loved most running. Roy was diagnosed with a serious heart condition six years ago, but never let it change his energetic, optimistic spirit. Roy was born April 2, 1956 in Salt Lake City to Golden and Marie Landgren. He graduated from Skyline High School, the University of Utah and UNLV. In 1981 he married Cheri Crofts in the Salt Lake Temple. Roy loved his wife and three precious girls more than anything in this world. He was entirely devoted to raising his three wonderful daughters, Morgan, Jessie and Aspen. He was always there for them and loved participating in their lives. He was the greatest dad to his girls and enjoyed having their friends over. One of his closest companions was his dog, Puddles, who he shared a special bond with. Roy loved being a friend. He went out of his way to get to know and serve neighbors, friends and kids wherever he went. He especially enjoyed helping children learn at Butler Elementary School. His positive influence will be greatly missed. Roy loved participating in sports, particularly running, biking, basketball and golf. He was an amazing marathon runner. He always looked forward to the time spent with his running buddies. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed working with the youth. MacKay (Mac) A warm hearted curmudgeon passed away on October 23, 2004. Warren was born July 5, 1920 to John Elmer and Janet Abigail Tanner MacKay, at home in Granger, Utah. Warren and his wife, Hazel (Baxter) were married May 18, 1940, later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1947. She preceded him in death in 1997, after 57 happy years of marriage. He lived a long productive life working for the Ramp Garage, Alpine Potato Chip Company, Classic Cleaners, The Rio Grande Railroad, and the remainder of his career as a machinist for the Eimco Corporation, where he retired in 1983. He was a dedicated worker for the Eimco Credit Union for many years. Warren left his wife and three babies to serve his country honorably in the European Theatre during World War II. After returning home Hazel and Warren welcomed another daughter into their family. Warren enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling in his younger years and was a willing servant in his church positions. Many years were spent on the church farms and Warren felt it a worthy blessing to farm the good earth. He loved his family and was always delighted to have his children and grandchildren visit him at his home. There are many memories of homemade ice-cream and croquet on the back lawn while the children played on the swings. He was a huge JAZZ fan, watching all of their games; being an arm chair referee of renown. He had more than one t-shirt with the MASH logo and knew all the dialog to each episode. He is survived by his four daughters, which included a set of triplets. Sondra Lyngle (Steve), Lynda Astin (Ray), Dorothy Gunnerson (Gary), Kathy Kennedy, (Marty). 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are a sister, Janet Bannan, five sisters in law, Drusilla, Emma, Mary, Norma, and Lucille. And of course, MAC, the canary. Preceded in death by five brothers, Stewart, Frank, Howard, Nile, LeMar and grandson, Bob Gunnerson. Through the years Warren has made many friends and enjoyed telling stories about his life. His quick wit made the trials in his life less troublesome. Warren and Hazel gave of their time, love and finances to family, friends and many others throughout their lives. The family is very grateful to those who have assisted with Warren's care: his doctors, nurses, and all the wonderful guys and gals, staff and residents, at the Wentworth at Willow Creek Assisted Living and Alpine Hospice. Mefford, Barbara Barbara Mefford 1914 ~ 2004 Barbara Christensen Mefford, age 89, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2004 as a result of complications from a broken hip. She was born in Loa, Utah on December 8, 1914 to Clem and Alta Jacobs Christensen. Barbara married Dwight Mefford in 1936; later divorced. An active member of the LDS Church, she loved Relief Society and was the compassionate service leader for over 10 years. She was also a worker at the Oakland Temple. A hard working, caring, outgoing, friendly lady, she worked as an analyst and supervisor of the Computer Tabulation Division of the California DMV in Sacramento, California for 38 years. She was involved in social and civic clubs and was an avid golfer. She loved handcrafts, especially crocheting and quilting. Friends and family were the recipients of many beautiful items. She made Sacramento her home for 50 years. The last couple of years, Barbara lived at the Coventry in Cottonwood Heights and dearly loved the many friends she made there as well as the very kind and caring staff. Barbara is survived by her brother, Jay Van Christensen, Centerville, UT; sister Clema Bingham, Wildomar, CA; daughter Margie Barson, Salt Lake City, UT; and daughter Toni Mefford of Brookings, OR. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Tammy Munn, Stacie Campbell, Shellie, Brad, Brian and Kimberly Barson; as well as 20 great-grandchildren. She was born on October 2, 1960 in Salt Lake City to Betty Lynne Christensen Stewart and Don William Harward. She married her sweetheart, Larry C Montgomery, November 19, 1981 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. Suzanne was well known for freely offering her service and love. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Father in Heaven and enjoyed watching the sunsets for they were His hand at work. She gave life to three wonderful children whom she raised with love. She found joy in helping them with their school work and extracurricular activities. She is perfect in their eyes. Her two sons like to say "thank you" by playing their instruments for her. She would say, "That is the best medicine!" Suzanne was extremely gifted at creating hand crafts and expressed her love for others by sharing her talents with them and making gifts for many occasions. Her circle of friends reached from those she worked with to close friends she met monthly with at Book Club, as well as her neighbors and many others whose lives she has touched. Peters, James Stanley James Stanley Peters 1908 ~ 2004 James Stanley Peters, devoted father, dedicated husband, and loving grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 24th, 2004. He is survived by two children, Jeanne' Peters Triptow (Thomas), and James Stanley Peters (Sarah), siblings Lois Andersen, Millie Leary, Arlene Ganung, Howard, and Paul Peters. He is also survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Mildred Hallsey Peters, brothers and sisters Elmo, Elizabeth, Carl, Jack, Dale Peters and one grandson, Michael James Peters. Stanley was born on November 18th, 1908 and is the son of James E. Peters and Eliza Chipman Peters of Provo, Utah. He served an LDS mission in Florida in 1929. Following his mission, he married Mildred Hallsey on August 15th, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in numerous church positions including Bishop and High Councilman and was a dedicated member and priesthood holder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the gospel and sharing it with others. He was Assistant Manager ot Chipman's Mercantile in American Fork for 18 years when he became Field Representative and later Manager of Utah Livestock PCA in the Salt Lake office retiring at age 65. Following seven years of retirement, Stanley returned to work as manager of J.R. Broadbent Company retiring a second time at the age of 94. He was also active in civic affairs. Stanley loved to spend time with family and friends and loved to play golf. He is best remembered for his dedication to his children, grandchildren, and his loving wife Mildred. He gave everything his best effort and prided himself on his dedication to his assignments. Stanley will be missed by all that knew him. His life spanned nearly 100 years of history in the greatest of centuries and generations. What a joyous reunion he his now having with his loved ones who have gone before him. Rasmussen 1908 ~ 2004 Dr. Jewell J. Rasmussen, Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Utah, died 25 October 2004 at the age of 95 in Idaho Falls, Idaho where he lived for the past three years. Born in Spring City, Utah, 18 November 1908, he was the son of Danish immigrants, Christian Waldemar and Sorine Christine Sorensen Rasmussen. Dr. Rasmussen graduated from Snow College in 1929 prior to attending the University of Utah where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. He embarked on his teaching career at Granite High School and concurrently pursued his masters degree in economics at the University of Utah, receiving his graduate degree in 1936. After teaching a year at Weber College, Dr. Rasmussen became Director of Research for the Utah Education Association where he served until 1942 when he joined the faculty of the Economics Department at the University of Utah. In the same year he was elected a member of the Board of Directors of Educators Mutual Insurance Association. In 1945 he was elected President of Educators Mutual, a position he held until 1985. Dr. Rasmussen was awarded his doctoral degree in economics from Stanford University and continued his teaching career at the University of Utah, rising from the ranks of instructor to professor. For ten years he served as chairman of the Economics Department. It was said of him that as chairman "he was responsible for the department's intellectual diversity, intellectual and academic tolerance as well as our fiercely maintained climate of intellectual freedom . . ." His economics research focused primarily on state and local finance. Over the years, he was frequently consulted regarding matters of fiscal policy by Utah governors, members of the state legislature, mayors and other governmental officials. He served as a consultant for the United States Bureau of the Budget, for the President's Water Resources Policy Commission and for other public agencies. In these activities he acted out of civic duty and pride and gave freely of his time and services. In 1966 Dr. Rasmussen was selected to give the 30th Annual Reynolds lecture at the University of Utah and was awarded a distinguished service award from the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters in 1967. Following retirement from teaching in 1977, Dr. Rasmussen continued active participation in academic and civic matters. His post-retirement activities included serving as a member of the Executive Committee of the Utah Council on Economic Education, executive secretary of the Utah Association of Academic Professionals, making annual projections of state tax revenue for the Utah Education Association, and occasional consultation with state tax committees on taxation policies. In 1996, the Bureau of Economic and Business Research at the University of Utah published his final book, History of Utah's First Century of Taxation and Public Debt, in connection with centennial observances of the State. He married Dorothea LaRue Jensen in 1932 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death in 1980. Two sons were born to the couple, Jewell Jensen (deceased) and Waldemar E. In 1985, he married Edith Braund. Survivors include Edith Braund Rasmussen, Eloise Cooke Rasmussen (daughter-in-law), Waldemar E. Rasmussen (Harriet Ann Richards), Jean Braund (Joseph) Elison (step-daughter), Della Oldham (sister), 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he will be remembered for his service in the Monument Park 9th Ward. Frank - "Fotis" - was born on September 13, 1937, in Price, Utah, to Symeon Symeonides "Simons," and Artemesia Provatidou Symeonidou "Simons." Died from complications from congestive heart failure in Salt Lake City, Utah, October 26, 2004. Fotios was the special of all special persons. He had a heart of gold. He had unconditional love for every person with whom he associated. The pride, joy, and support of his widowed mother. His sisters who adored him. His brother who took him fishing. His nephews and nieces who equally adored him and loved him. His grand nieces and grand nephews who developed a special bond with him although they had met him for such a short time. A special person who with whomever he came into contact with loved him. His devotion to his church. For almost 60 years he served his church selflessly as an altar boy at the Price Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. He could recite the liturgy in Greek; as an altar boy he assisted the priest during services. His love for gardening, bowling and the animals was legendary. He worked 20 years for Great Basin Education as a lithographer. Survived by a daughter, Tammy (Joshua Jackson) Cole; two grandchildren, Ricky Cole and Jeannie (James) Riddle; two great-grandchildren, Jesse L. Riddle and the other is on the way.
