Al was born April 3, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Leo and Marie Rein Blosch. He graduated from West High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Chinese, Burma Theater. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was employed as an airplane sheet metal mechanic at Hill Field for 35 years. Al enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at Deer Creek Reservoir with his brothers and nephews. He is survived by his brothers Albert (Lila) and Rulon (Connie) Blosch and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his Mother and Father, brothers Nephi, Hyrum and Raymond Blosch, sisters Mary Benedict, Ruth Reese and Lucille Peay. Crawford, Beth Patterson Beth Patterson Crawford 1917 ~ 2004 Beth Patterson Crawford died Oct. 26, 2004 She died as she lived, courageously, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Beth was born October 10, 1917, in Beaver, Utah, to Sarah Jane Morris and Edgar LeRoy Patterson. After graduating from Milford High School in 1934, she moved to Salt Lake City and married William Reid Crawford (Bill). Later, she earned a degree from Stevens Henager College while working full time and raising her children. Beth worked at Muir Roberts Fruit Brokerage Company as a bookkeeper until she retired at age 67. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held memberships in the American Needlepoint Guild and the Utah Quilt Guild. A true renaissance woman, Beth produced remarkable paintings, exquisite needlepoint, ceramics for every holiday, meticulously crafted quilts, and clothing for her girls. She learned to love gardening from her mother, nurtured her family with great food, needle work and quilting, read copiously, especially history and current events, and listened to fine music as well as the torture of novice violin and piano music simultaneously ringing from every room in her small house. She is survived by her five daughters, Vickie Waters, (Jack), Beaver, as well as Sara Jane Andersen, Mary Beth Clark (Scott H.) Kathleen Starr, (Gary L.) and Carolyn Ellis, (Lon B.), all of Salt Lake City, 33 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Beth was preceded in death by her husband and parents, brothers, Roy and Morris Patterson, and son-in-law Ray E. Andersen. Greenlee Gretchen L. Greenlee Ferrin 1916 ~ 2004 Gretchen passed away peacefully on October 26, 2004 in Salt Lake City, from natural causes following a stroke. She was born March 13, 1916 in Heavener, Oklahoma, the first child of Victor Sylvester Greenlee and Luella Pannell Greenlee. After graduating from Springville High School where she enjoyed performing in theatrical productions, she moved to Salt Lake and worked as an office worker for the state government. She married Joseph M. Ferrin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 25, 1938. He died August 7, 1984. She loved her home, remodeling antique furniture and collecting dolls. Her hobby was buying and selling collectible dolls. She loved going out to dinner with her children, and loved visits with grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and neighbors. Survived by her children, Joyce Ann Munguia, Scott Ferrin, and David Ferrin (Nancy); four grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister Betty Rawlings; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was born Nov. 19, 1928 in Neola, Utah the oldest of eight children to Alfred Dallas and Alta Florice (Chris) Labrum. She married Ola Willard Larsen, they later divorced and she then married her loving husband, Henry Murl Gibbins. Ires was tested beyond belief here on earth and now she can finally rest in peace. She served as an example of courage, love and determination to all of us. Her beautiful face, sweet soul and brave heart will live within us forever. Griffeth, passed away peacefully Tuesday October 26, 2004, at the age of 81, of natural causes.Born in Grover, Wyoming, April 6, 1923 to Anciel and Luella Griffeth, he was one of 10 children. He graduated from Star Valley High School, prior to attending Utah State University. He served his country with honor in World War II. At age 24, he married Ruth Maurine Gibbons, January 20, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple and then served an LDS mission in the Southern States. They were blessed with two daughters and four sons. LaVere was a master carpenter and general contractor and spent countless hours helping others with projects. He built several LDS chapels, personal residences, and commercial buildings in Utah and surrounding states. He loved and served his church in numerous positions, which made a difference in others lives. LaVere and Ruth served a mission in the Washington DC Temple. He has continued to serve in the Jordan River Temple for many years. Dad has countless friends, neighbors, and family that will truly miss him. LaVere is survived by six children: Patricia (George) Richards, Craig (Susan) Griffeth, Robert (Doreen) Griffeth, Gary (Claudia) Griffeth, Julia Griffeth Brown, Kent (Vicki) Griffeth; sisters, Mildred Griffeth and Maurine Steiner; 30 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Married Inga Henriette Osterboe September 7, 1940 in Norway; solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple February 21, 1950. Member of the LDS Church. With his wife, served two LDS missions to Norway and was instrumental in the formation of the Norwegian Branch. Retired from Kennecott Copper Corporation and was a member of the Scandia Male Chorus. Ipson, Stanley Houston Stanley Houston Ipson 1920 ~ 2004 Stanley Houston Ipson has played his final round of golf and joined his family and friends in Heaven. LAYTON, UT-Stanley Houston Ipson, 84, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004. He was born on Feb. 7, 1920 to Neil and Fametta Houston Ipson in Salt Lake City. He grew up in Sugar House and graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City. He married Georgia Marie Christensen August 23, 1940. Their vows were solemnized March 23, 1964 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died Feb. 16, 1974. He married Shirley Zumpano Feb. 2, 1985. She died August 6, 2001. He served in World War II and retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1974 after 30 years. One of his greatest passions was golfing, putting in a round almost daily with his golfing cronies, weather permitting. During 2000, at the age of 80, he hit three holes-in-one, a feat that he was extremely proud of. He also loved his trips to Hawaii and in his later years, rides around this valley. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He truly appreciated the service rendered to him by his neighbors and friends these past few years. He is survived by his sons, Keith (Tamara) Ipson, Syracuse; and James (Mesa) Ipson, Pleasant View; eight grandchildren and six great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William Morris, Max, John, Keith and Wallace and one granddaughter, Jaime Lyn. Born October 31, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Emron Max and Helen Louise Birch. Her family meant the world to her; she was proud of her children's accomplishments and adored her grandchildren. Kramer, Sidney Charles Sidney CharlesKramer 1914 ~ 2004 Sidney Charles Kramer returned peacefully to his Father in Heaven on Monday, October 25, 2004 after living a full life. Sid was born August 18, 1914 to Doretta Winkless and Herman Kramer. He was the first of four sons.Sid attended Granite High School where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. He was named to the All-State teams in both football and basketball, and received the schools top athlete award. Sid attended the University of Utah where he was chosen Captain of the basketball team in 1935, was all-conference, and was selected to the Kincaid All-America team. Sid was a running back and defensive back on the U of U football team. He was named All-Conference and All America honorable mention in 1935. Sid married the love of his life, Marjorie Heilbut, in 1942 and they have four children. Marge died in 1981. While working as a Salt Lake County Sheriff, Sid played baseball professionally for the Salt Lake Bees and professional football for the Salt Lake Seagulls. Later, he had careers in sales, and management. As a lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War II he traveled the world and survived the sinking of his ship by an enemy torpedo. We will remember Sid for his outstanding strength and courage and as a generous and loyal friend. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie and brother Leslie. He is survived by his children, Karren Gallacher (Gerald), Stephen (Sally), David (Deanna) and Scott C. Kramer; brothers Richard C. and Thomas V. Kramer. Sid was blessed with 15 wonderful grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The family wants to give a special thanks to the Elderly Manor and Hearts for Hospice staffs for their compassionate care. Lambert, Dan Dan Lambert 1925 ~ 2004 Dan Lambert, born in Salt Lake City on February 7, 1925, passed away at home October 25, 2004, at his home in Provo. He was the son of Dan Delmar and Vivien Laney Lambert, both natives of Kamas. Dan married Janet Miller of Mesa, Arizona, on August 27, 1947. Their marriage was solemnized in the LDS temple in Manti on March 23, 1963. Dan was a Provo High School graduate, Class of '42. He joined the Naval Reserve in 1943, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then enrolled at Brigham Young University, where he was on the Y's golf team, and majored in economics. After graduating in 1949, he went work for Geneva Steel and retired 32 years later. Dan was active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He claimed his most challenging calling was that of Scoutmaster and his most rewarding, that of stake clerk from 1983, when the Provo Bonneville Stake was created, until 1992. He was also a Provo Temple worker for many years. Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, in March 2003, and is survived by their children: Dawn Henderson (Richard) Goates, Salt Lake City; Dan David (Karen) Lambert, Orem; Linda (Jon) Hickman, Pleasant Hill, Calif.; Jean Lambert, Concord, Calif.; Carolyn (Steve) Hawkes, Sugar City, Idaho; and Laura Lambert, Orem. Dan is also survived by 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many special friends, including several longtime golfing buddies. Dan's brother, Karl Lambert, and his sister, Virginia L. Landgren, Roy Taylor Roy Taylor Landgren 1956 ~ 2004 Roy Taylor Landgren, 48, passed away the morning of Tuesday, October 26 while doing what he loved most running. Roy was diagnosed with a serious heart condition six years ago, but never let it change his energetic, optimistic spirit. Roy was born April 2, 1956 in Salt Lake City to Golden and Marie Landgren. He graduated from Skyline High School, the University of Utah and UNLV. In 1981 he married Cheri Crofts in the Salt Lake Temple. Roy loved his wife and three precious girls more than anything in this world. He was entirely devoted to raising his three wonderful daughters, Morgan, Jessie and Aspen. He was always there for them and loved participating in their lives. He was the greatest dad to his girls and enjoyed having their friends over. One of his closest companions was his dog, Puddles, who he shared a special bond with. Roy loved being a friend. He went out of his way to get to know and serve neighbors, friends and kids wherever he went. He especially enjoyed helping children learn at Butler Elementary School. His positive influence will be greatly missed. Roy loved participating in sports, particularly running, biking, basketball and golf. He was an amazing marathon runner. He always looked forward to the time spent with his running buddies. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed working with the youth. Roy had a closeness with his Heavenly Father and Savior and expressed it through the time he spent in the temple. Survived by his wife and children; mother, Marie Landgren; sister, Helen Overstreet; brother, Lynn Landgren (Pam). She was born June 20, 1916 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to E.J. and Elsie Walker Swensen. She married E. Steele McIntyre April 27, 1943 in Reno, Nevada. Laura graduated from BYU, majoring in physical education and homemaking, and also attended George Washington University. She was a teacher at Tintic High School in Eureka for many years. Laura was a dedicated mother and homemaker. Her children and grandchildren enjoyed many bounteous meals at her table. When the grandchildren had a choice of where they would like to have Thanksgiving dinner it was always Grandma McIntyre's. She served her community and church, always going the extra mile. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a person who was generous with her time and devotion to those she knew. She enjoyed traveling and was ready at a moments notice for a trip around the world or just down the street. Montgomery, Suzanne Suzanne Montgomery "Perfect in our eyes" Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and best friend, Suzanne Montgomery, (44) passed away October 26, 2004 in the comfort of her home after fighting a valiant battle against breast cancer. She was born on October 2, 1960 in Salt Lake City to Betty Lynne Christensen Stewart and Don William Harward. She married her sweetheart, Larry C Montgomery, November 19, 1981 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. Suzanne was well known for freely offering her service and love. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Father in Heaven and enjoyed watching the sunsets for they were His hand at work. She gave life to three wonderful children whom she raised with love. She found joy in helping them with their school work and extracurricular activities. She is perfect in their eyes. Her two sons like to say "thank you" by playing their instruments for her. She would say, "That is the best medicine!" Suzanne was extremely gifted at creating hand crafts and expressed her love for others by sharing her talents with them and making gifts for many occasions. Her circle of friends reached from those she worked with to close friends she met monthly with at Book Club, as well as her neighbors and many others whose lives she has touched. She is survived by her eternal companion, Larry C Montgomery; children, Tami Lynn (Todd Allen) Young, Nathan L Montgomery, and Aaron C Montgomery; granddaughter, Olivia Lynn Young; mother, Betty Lynne Stewart; brothers, Scott Harward, Shawn Harward and Steven (Shannon) Harward; and sister, Shannon (Ned) Cook; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Monty and Norma Lynn Montgomery. Mulliner, Janet Crawford Woodruff Janet Crawford Woodruff Mulliner 1926 ~2004 Janet Crawford Woodruff Mulliner, age 77, passed away on Oct. 27, 2004. Janet was born on December 4, 1926, in Salt Lake City, Utah, born to Alta Crawford and Douglas Woodruff. An East High School (Salt Lake City, UT) graduate, Janet continued her education earning a BA in English from the University of Utah and an MA in retail merchandising from New York University. Janet was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Janet married Ted Mulliner on August 25, 1950. They moved to Boston where Ted completed his final year at Harvard Law School. Upon Ted's graduation in 1951, they returned to Salt Lake City, then moved to the San Francisco Bay area to pursue Ted's law practice. Together they raised four children and made significant contributions to the community. Janet was always active in the PTA, various church organizations, and the Allied Arts Guild in Atherton, CA. Janet loved literature, fine arts, theater, music, flower arranging, collecting antiques, gardening, and long walks. She and Ted traveled worldwide and shared an insatiable curiosity that engaged them together throughout their lives. Janet was energetically devoted to her children and grandchildren. Characteristically modest and reserved, Janet was passionate and untiring when it came to causes she believed in. She had a great sense of humor, a ready laugh and a smile that warmed those close to her until the last days of her life. Janet was preceded in death by her husband (1992) and is survived by her sister Susan Woodruff; her children: Laurie Mulliner Connor (Salt Lake City); Kiki (Janet) Mulliner (New York); Mimi Mulliner (Curt) McNeely, (Park City); and James Mulliner (Salt Lake City); and seven grandchildren: Edward (Ted) Johnson, Katherine Johnson, Katie Connor, Allie Connor, Lauren McNeely, Bradley McNeely and Erin McNeely. Rasmussen, Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Utah, died 25 October 2004 at the age of 95 in Idaho Falls, Idaho where he lived for the past three years. Born in Spring City, Utah, 18 November 1908, he was the son of Danish immigrants, Christian Waldemar and Sorine Christine Sorensen Rasmussen. Dr. Rasmussen graduated from Snow College in 1929 prior to attending the University of Utah where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. He embarked on his teaching career at Granite High School and concurrently pursued his masters degree in economics at the University of Utah, receiving his graduate degree in 1936. After teaching a year at Weber College, Dr. Rasmussen became Director of Research for the Utah Education Association where he served until 1942 when he joined the faculty of the Economics Department at the University of Utah. In the same year he was elected a member of the Board of Directors of Educators Mutual Insurance Association. In 1945 he was elected President of Educators Mutual, a position he held until 1985. Dr. Rasmussen was awarded his doctoral degree in economics from Stanford University and continued his teaching career at the University of Utah, rising from the ranks of instructor to professor. For ten years he served as chairman of the Economics Department. It was said of him that as chairman "he was responsible for the department's intellectual diversity, intellectual and academic tolerance as well as our fiercely maintained climate of intellectual freedom . . ." His economics research focused primarily on state and local finance. Over the years, he was frequently consulted regarding matters of fiscal policy by Utah governors, members of the state legislature, mayors and other governmental officials. He served as a consultant for the United States Bureau of the Budget, for the President's Water Resources Policy Commission and for other public agencies. In these activities he acted out of civic duty and pride and gave freely of his time and services. In 1966 Dr. Rasmussen was selected to give the 30th Annual Reynolds lecture at the University of Utah and was awarded a distinguished service award from the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters in 1967. Following retirement from teaching in 1977, Dr. Rasmussen continued active participation in academic and civic matters. His post-retirement activities included serving as a member of the Executive Committee of the Utah Council on Economic Education, executive secretary of the Utah Association of Academic Professionals, making annual projections of state tax revenue for the Utah Education Association, and occasional consultation with state tax committees on taxation policies. In 1996, the Bureau of Economic and Business Research at the University of Utah published his final book, History of Utah's First Century of Taxation and Public Debt, in connection with centennial observances of the State. He married Dorothea LaRue Jensen in 1932 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death in 1980. Two sons were born to the couple, Jewell Jensen (deceased) and Waldemar E. In 1985, he married Edith Braund. Survivors include Edith Braund Rasmussen, Eloise Cooke Rasmussen (daughter-in-law), Waldemar E. Rasmussen (Harriet Ann Richards), Jean Braund (Joseph) Elison (step-daughter), Della Oldham (sister), 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he will be remembered for his service in the Monument Park 9th Ward. Stillman, Leland Garn Leland Garn Stillman 1921 ~2004 Leland Garn Stillman, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend passed away on October 27, 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was 83 years of age.He was born May 16, 1921, in Salt Lake City, UT to Joseph Julian Stillman and Emma Osguthorpe Stillman. He married Neva Gene Lemmon on May 4, 1945. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage. Neva preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2003. Leland served as a paratrooper with D Company, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles) in World War II and fought in the D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded twice in action in France and Belgium. He was decorated with a Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist's Badge, Distinguished Unit Badge with one Bronze Cluster, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster (signifying second award), European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with Three Bronze Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Leland was an employee of Mountain Fuel Supply Company for 30 years as well as operating a television repair business for many years. He received so much enjoyment from his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and supported them in their many endeavors. He was an avid fisherman for many years and enjoyed traveling with numerous friends. He is survived by daughters Candie (Tom) Angelos, Denise (Dan) Richins; grandchildren Staci (Paul) Bernhisel, Tommy and Zack Angelos, Amy (Brian) Oliver and Danica (Brian) Brooks; great-grandchildren Alexis, Madison and Tyler Bernhisel, Colby and Caden Angelos, and soon to be born baby boy Oliver. Leland is also survived by his sister Lilian and brothers Sterling and Clifton. He was preceded in death by his wife Neva, parents, brothers Milton and Darwin, and sisters Margaret and Gwendolyn. The family would like to thank the staff of the VA Hospital for all of their efforts in trying to restore Leland's health. Also, our heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and aids at the Residence of CareSource Hospice for their loving and compassionate care for Leland and his family.
