Beulah V. Anderson 1924 ~ 2005 Beulah VanNoy Anderson, age 80, Grantsville, died April 8, 2005 at Tooele Medical Center of heart failure. She was born April 18, 1924 in Thayne, Wyoming to Abrum LeGrant VanNoy and Elva Coy. She married Glen Gailey Anderson Sept. 21, 1946 in Elko, NV. Later solemnized in the Logan Temple, March 1, 1963. He preceded her in death March 5, 1985. She was an active member of the LDS Church and spent her life in service to others both in the church and the community. She had a generous heart and loved helping others. All who knew and loved her will miss her presence. Survivors include sons and daughters, Joan Castagno (Richard), Darrell Anderson (Carolyn), Glenna Lawrence (Gary), John W. Anderson (Lisa), Van L. Anderson (Cathrine), Jay L. Anderson (Lynn). Extended family: Mike Anderson (Jeannie), Patty Halladay (Bob), Doug Anderson (Valerie), Beverly Schultz (Mike), Beverly deceased in Jan 2005. Published in the Deseret News on 4/12/2005. Blundell, Harry Harry Blundell 1925 ~ 2005 BOUNTIFUL - Harry Blundell passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, May 1, 1925 to Henry James Blundell and Eliza Ellen Terry. Harry was the youngest of eight children. He attended West High School and served in the U.S. Navy. Harry married Beverly M. Martin August 26, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, September 22nd, 1952. Harry graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy. He was inducted into the honorary scholastic fraternities of Phi Betta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi with his twin brother Larry. Harry was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as the Bishop of the Cannon 5th Ward, member of the Val Verda 2nd Ward Bishopric and Val Verda Stake Presidency. He also served as a member of the LDS Church Correlation/Evaluation Committee and as President of The California Fresno Mission. Harry worked at Utah Power and Light Company from 1947 until 1985. He started his career as an Estimator, later becoming Treasurer, Vice President and President and CEO in 1979. He was also elected President of the Northwest Light and Power Assoc., President of the Utah Manufacturers Association, Director of Rio Grand Railroad, Walker Bank, Utah Bank and Trust and Amalgamated Sugar. Harry was also Chairman of Take Stock in America, on the board of the Utah Symphony, Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce, and Executive Committee of the United Way. He received the Humanitarian Award for service from the National Jewish Hospital and Resource Center, Denver, Colorado. Harry is survived by his wife Beverly; sons and daughters, Martin (Norma), James, Peter (Shauna), Amy (James) Moulton, Ann (Steve) Durrant , Todd (Michelle), 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Jeen Lippman and twin brother, Larry Blundell. Preceded in death by brothers, Morrell and Banford; sisters, Maxine Wilson, Afton Smith, and Heleen Martin; son, John Blundell, and grandson, Corbin Blundell. Harry had a charming personality, was an excellent public speaker, compassionate friend, quiet leader, and influential father. Croft, LeAnn LeAnn Lewis Croft 1952 ~ 2005 LAYTON - LeAnn Lewis Croft, 53, our beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully at her home in Layton, Utah on April 10, 2005 following a long struggle with cancer. She was born February 16, 1952 in Provo, Utah to Lawrence Grant and Joan Stewart Lewis. She was reared in Orem and graduated from Orem High School in 1970. She attended Brigham Young University, majoring in child development and family relations. She married Danial J. Croft on April 14, 1972, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with seven beautiful children. They lived in Orem for several years then moved to Washington, Utah, and finally to Layton, where the family has lived for more than 24 years. LeAnn was a master seamstress and quilter, and she enjoyed gardening. She also loved to read. Known for her homemaking abilities, she was a chef and scrap booker who also collected and restored antiques. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She was a leader in her ward Young Women organization and also in the M-Men and Gleaner (Young Single Adult) program. After her marriage, she served in many positions, including ward Relief Society president, stake Relief Society board, Young Women advisor, Primary teacher, nursery leader and den mother. She is survived by her husband, Layton; son, Jeffrey Danial Croft, San Francisco; daughters, Rebecca (Christian L.) Richmond, Layton; Suzanne (John D.) Wilcock, Hurricane, Utah; Catherine, Logan; Jeanette, Layton; Melanie (Matthew R.) Szymanski, Salt Lake City; Stefanie, Layton; five grandchildren: Bradley C. and Jonathan L. Gehrke, William E. William E. Gehrke 1919 ~ 2005 William E. Gehrke, husband and father, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at 1:40 a.m. from progressed stages of Parkinson's disease. At his passing he was attended by his sons Jack, Allen and James Gehrke. He was born October 25, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the third child of Fred Richard and Augusta Theresa Tickchelmann Gehrke. Bill was active in various sports including handball, bowling, golf, swimming, and football. In his youth he was a member of the Blair Street Bobcats. Bill married Daisy Elise Yocom October 29, 1942; later divorced. Together they had five boys, William L. Gehrke, Jack F. Gehrke, Allen R. Gehrke, Jerry L. Gehrke, and James M. Gehrke. Bill served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was stationed in various locations including Trinidad where he was part of an unusual military program working with homing pigeons. Bill helped to organize, run and coach the Bonneville Western Boys Baseball Association at Municipal Ballpark in the early 1950's. Hundreds of boys have benefited from his efforts. Bill helped pioneer the automatic pool cover industry and was instrumental in developing the first automatic safety cover, a device that has saved the lives of countless children around the world over the past 40 years. Bill married Gloria Olson August 13, 1977 and has spent the last 28 years with her living in Magna, Utah. Bill is preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Asmus; and brothers, Fred and Walter Gehrke. Survived by his lovely wife, Gloria; sister, Betty McCleary; five sons; three stepchildren; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Geiermann 1922 ~ 2005 William J. Geiermann, 82, made his final putt on the earthly 18th green, Sunday, April 10th, 2005. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie, their three children, Jim (Judy), Elizabeth Scott (Kimble), Tom (Jeanine), nine grandchildren, and his sister, Mary. He is preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, his first son Michael and grandchildren, Michelle and Bradley. As a commissioned officer in the United States Navy during World War II he survived the sinking of his ship by enemy torpedoes in the North Atlantic. Following the war, he graduated from the University of North Dakota and entered into a career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Bill retired after 30 years of loyal service and went on to work an additional 15 years for another federal government agency. Kennedy, Irene Velma Davis Irene Velma Davis Kennedy 1926 ~ 2005 Irene Velma Davis Kennedy was born April 2, 1926 in Dartmore, West Virginia to Grover Cleveland and Dessie Mona Davis. She was eighth of 10 children. She died April 10, 2005 in Salt Lake City. She married Bert Alvin Kennedy on May 3, 1942 in Oakland, Maryland. After they joined the LDS church in 1961, the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple July 19, 1963. She is survived by her daughter Linda Jorgensen; grandchildren, Trudy Price (Jeff), Katie Bagley (Lane), Clay Jorgensen (Brittany), Becky Black (Jesse); 11 great-grandchildren; one brother Milford Davis (Joretta) of Archer, Florida. She is preceded in death by her husband, son-in-law, parents, four sisters and four brothers. She retired from Metz Bakery in 1985 after 18 years of service. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A viewing will be held Tuesday, April 12 from 6-8 pm at Deseret Memorial Mortuary. Kramp, Robert Charles Robert Charles Kramp 1938 ~ 2005 Robert Charles Kramp, age 67, of South Jordan, UT, formerly of Moraga, CA, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2005 of Lewy Body Disease. Robert was born February 11, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois to Arthur Charles Kramp and Lillian Louise Treichel. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1960 and his MBA from the University of Illinois in 1970. He was employed as an electrical engineer for Inland Steel in Indiana for eight years. He moved to Oakland, CA in 1970 where he worked for Bechtel, Westinghouse, Oakland Army Base and the US Coast Guard over the next 31 years. He married Mavie Loretta Dye on June 10, 1975 in the Salt Lake Temple. They resided in Moraga, CA until April, 2004 when they moved to South Jordan, Utah. He is survived by his wife, Mavie, his sister Susan Barnett of Fresno, CA, and two children: daughter Jennifer Lyn Moessing (Layne) of Columbia, MD and son Brian Charles Kramp (Cristina) of Kirkland, WA and three grandchildren: Ashley Moessing, Tyler Moessing, and Emma Kramp. Bob was active in the LDS Church and served in the Oakland Temple for 14 years. Gary "Duke" Mitchell Gone Fishn' Gary "Duke" LaVar Mitchell, age 70, of West Jordan, our patient and trusting dad, grandpa, brother and close friend, left this existence on April 8, 2005 with his family by his side. He will be painfully missed, but is now at peace and in comfort. Duke was born on April 6, 1935 in Murray, Utah to Alfred L. and Ruth L. Peterson Mitchell. He lived most of his life in West Jordan. Duke loved the sport of boxing as a youngster and trained with a world champion. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1953. From 1954-1956 he served our country in Germany in the U.S. Army. He married Dixie Jane Dean in 1959 and they began their lives together in West Jordan. Duke and Dixie gave life to, and raised four children. Duke and Dixie later divorced, but remained close life-long friends. Duke worked for many years in the commercial mink industry and in maintenance for Jordan School District at Union Junior High and Midvale Elementary Schools. Duke loved to fish and taught his children his passion. His favorite days were spent at Strawberry and Scofield pursuing trout, or at Utah Lake enticing bullhead and channel catfish. He loved spending time "puttering," whether it was in his garden or working in his yard. He treasured time in his Idaho "condo" and gambling in Jackpot. On Sundays during the fall, you could find him cheering for the NFL's Oakland Raiders. Surviving are his son Dean Mitchell and wife Jamie, of Park City; daughter Shelly Mitchell and fianc e Steve Beames of Midvale; son Blake Mitchell and wife Nancy, of West Jordan; grandchildren and step grandchildren Crystal, Jade, Nicole (Melvin), Daniel, Chris and Jennifer (Rob); great grandchild Abigail; and brother Bill Mitchell and wife Anita, of Oakley, Idaho. Duke was preceded in death by his parents and youngest son Clark. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 12 noon at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 10600 South 1950 East, Sandy, where friends and family may call from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service. We will use this time to celebrate Duke's life and what he meant to us. Thanks for giving us life and always being there for us Dad. Don't know how we'll get by without you. We'll never forget the trips to Yellowstone, the Oregon coast, Strawberry and Scofield. We'll miss you so very, very much, but look forward to the time when we'll be together again. Rasmussen, Edith Braund Edith Braund Rasmussen 1909 ~ 2005 Edith Braund Rasmussen, 95, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, formerly of Salt Lake City, peacefully returned home to her Heavenly Father April 8, 2005. She was born in Pike County, Indiana on September 2, 1909 to Herschel Higgins and DoraEtta Campbell Higgins. In November of 1947 she married Lt. Col. Turney Howard "Pete" Braund and out of this marriage came a daughter, Jean Braund Elison. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. On June 4, 1956 "Pete" died in Pasadena CA. Edith lived in California until 1979 when she moved to Salt Lake City. On November 30, 1985 she married Jewell J. Rasmussen for time in the Jordan River LDS Temple. They enjoyed traveling, cruising, and watching their grandchildren grow up. Jewell died October 25, 2004 in Idaho Falls. Edith was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities in her lifetime. She has been a Young Women's leader and held positions in the Ward and Stake Relief Societies. She also served in the Primary and always wanted lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While living in California she was an ordinance worker in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. While residing in Salt Lake she was a hostess in the General Relief Society Building for five years. She enjoyed playing tennis and going to Los Angeles Dodger's baseball games. She was an avid San Francisco 49er fan especially when Steve Young was playing. She loved being with her family. At the time of her death she is survived by her daughter Jeanie Elison, her son-in-law, Joseph Elison, one step-son Wally Rasmussen, five grandsons and their beautiful wives and 12 great-grandchildren. Edith's family would sincerely like to thank Bart Larson, his staff at Mt. Vernon Assisted Living Center, and the staff at Aspen Home Health and Hospice for their tender care and love for her. All of you brought so much joy into her life. She loved you. Smith, Mathel Moore Mathel Moore Smith 1923 ~ 2005 Mathel Moore Smith passed away peacefully on April 11, 2005 at age 81 from complications of a stroke. She was born on August 20, 1923 in Parowan, Utah to LeRoy and Venice Moore. She married Ashton Lee Smith for time and all eternity on May 14, 1943 in the St. George Temple. Mathel was a beloved wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grand mother. She was a peacemaker with a kind word and a hug for everyone. She was always serving others in her family, ward, and neighborhood. She and Ashton spent many years serving in the Salt Lake, Chicago and Bountiful Temples. She was a gracious hostess, wonderful cook and seamstress. She took great pleasure in taking care of the beautiful flowers in her yard. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and she worked as a clerk for 10 years in the Maternity Ward at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She had a strong testimony of the Gospel which she passed on to her family through her words and her example. She is survived by her husband Ashton; daughter Sherry (Bob) Lee; daughter Geniel (Scott) Sly; son Craig (Barbara) Smith; daughter Valerie (Joe) Bond and son Richard (Bonnie) Smith; brother Dan (Bernis) Moore; sister Colleen (Heber) Gurr; sister Beverly (Eldon) Andersen; sister Genevive (Jerry) Harrison and sister Carolyn Brewster. Mum was one of the most genuinely loving beings on this earth. The wants and needs of others always came first. She was ever a loving mother, wife/caregiver and friend. She instilled in us a love for our homeland New Zealand and its Maori origins. Born on February 28, 1926 in Marton, NZ. Raised in Nuhuka and Wellington where she married John L. O'Brien (deceased). Married Oren C. Strat on July 29, 1978. Marr Cornia Tingey was born on May 13, 1917 in Woodruff, Utah to Carter and Helen Cornia, the second of seven children. She was educated and graduated from Rich County High School. She married Willard Cook Tingey on May 20, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was an active member in the LDS Church serving as Relief Society President, Primary President, teacher, and visiting teacher. After retiring from ZCMI her and her husband enjoyed traveling the world where they met and have enjoyed many friendships with the Polynesian people from Hawaii and New Zealand. She enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans and gifts for family and friends. Preceded in death by her husband, brother, and sister. Tranter, Justin Richard Justin Richard Tranter 4/17/79 ~ 4/7/05 Justin Richard Tranter returned to his Heavenly Father April 7, 2005. Justin was born April 17, 1979 to Richard Reid and Marianne Finch Tranter. He married the love of his life, Ashley Van Dyke, May 18, 2001 in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. Justin was an active member of the LDS Church, he served an honorable mission in Calgary, Canada and maintained his enthusiasm for sharing the Gospel. Justin was gentle and kind. He was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. He had a quick wit, a ready smile, and the ability to make you feel good. He did not judge and forgave freely. He valued family traditions and ended each day with a bowl of popcorn. Justin is survived by his wife; his two year old son, Ty; and Ashley is expecting their second child (August 2005). He is also survived by his parents; sister, Jennifer (David McDon-ough); brothers, David, Devin, Robert, Matthew; in-laws, Lynn and Dana Van Dyke; and his large extended family.
