Beaumont Alice D Beaumont Meredith 1912 ~ 2005 Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Alice Meredith, 92, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2005. She was born on December 3, 1912 in Beaver, Utah to Joseph Heber Beaumont and Georgina Boyter. As a 25-year-old waitress, she married her boss, Arthur John Childs Meredith on May 9, 1938 in Beaver. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 23, 1961. Alice's life was a synonym of selfless service. She was never afraid of hard work and was often heard asking, "What can I do for you?" Working on a farm, then countless hours at the Meredith Caf in Beaver (where she was famous for her pies) prepared her for her responsibilities later in their Meredith Motel: washing and hanging clothes, cleaning rooms, and waiting on guests. She did all this in addition to the responsibilities that came with being a wife and mother. Alice was a gracious hostess, a wonderful cook, and a beautiful seamstress. She spent countless hours sewing temple clothing and once won a ribbon for sewing an exquisite beaded wedding dress for her granddaughter. Heavenly Father gave her many gifts: she loved to paint and play the piano and organ and often entertained her children and grandchildren with her music. She enjoyed learning and increasing her knowledge, continuing to sign up for classes even in her late 80's. It's no wonder that later in her life, she just couldn't sit still! As an active member of the LDS Church, she worked for several years (until her health would no longer allow) in three different temples: Provo, Mt. Timpanogas, and Jordan River. In her lifespan she saw a lot of changes in the world. She went from horse and buggy to cars and airplanes. She taught her family to be selfless in serving others, to be patient in difficult circumstances, and to be charitable to everyone. She is survived by seven children, three born to both she and Art: Ralph Joseph (Beata) Meredith of Murray, Utah; Alice G. ("Chic") McGowan of South Jordan, Utah; and Lucille (Dale) Guest of Nampa, Idaho; and four whom she lovingly raised from her husband's previous marriage: Alfred Junior "Jack" (Belva) Meredith of Orem, Utah; Gladys Meredith of Las Vegas, Nevada; Arthur C. (Wilma) Meredith of Orem, Utah; Eileen Wade of La Habra, California. These children blessed her with 50 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Leonard and William. The family expresses sincere thanks to the caring and devoted personnel at the Woodland Park Care Center and Odyssey Health Care for their dedication and kindness during their mother's final days. We will miss Alice dearly and take comfort in knowing she is truly happy and at peace. We love you, Mom. West, Leonard R. Leonard R West 5/24/1933 ~ 4/15/2005 On April 15, 2005, the patriarch of our family passed away from pancreatic cancer. Our father's life was the American Dream. Raised in rural Pleasant Grove, he dropped out of high school to join the Navy. His years in the service led him to a brilliant career in mechanical engineering. He met our mother and at the age of 21 they began a marriage filled with shared dreams and countless accomplishments. With our mother's belief and support, he completed his B.E.S degree from BYU and his M.S. Degree from the University of Utah. He worked at Hercules for 28 years developing rocket motors, the commercial uses for composites (the graphite golf club), and many things that, may yet, remain classified. In his spare time he worked on projects as varied as building a better Christmas tree stand, extracting oil from shale, and his crowning achievement of developing a cut system for the lumber industry. Our father was a calculating, spiritual, and visionary man. His family, friends, and community have been blessed by his spirit. He was a man of few words and many actions. His tenacity, honesty, and desire to make the world a better place are traits that will be passed down for generations. Beautiful sunsets, groomed golf courses, rainbows, mountain hikes, and prayers around the bed will always remind us of his love and devotion to our family and the Lord. Leonard is survived by his wife, Irene Chipman West; siblings: Valerie Bussio and Farrin West; children: Mark West, Vickie Iverson (Greg), Melanie West (David), Trina West, and Rhyne Dosela. A multitude of children call him "Grandpa." Services will be held Tuesday, April 19th at 12 noon at the Lehi 26th Ward on 2790 North Center Street. Friends may call from 10:30-11:45 a.m. When Dad figured the cost of a traditional burial, his wishes were to be cremated and the savings gifted to the Smile Train Organization. Now 16 children have had their cleft palates replaced with a smile. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to www.SmileTrain.org or your favorite charity.
