Born Jan. 27, l953 to Vaughn and Norma Scott Fitzgerald. Les worked for Jordan School District as a mechanic for l6 years. He loved fishing and working around his yard. Survived by his loving family, wife Joan, son Jason and daughter Camron, brother Leon (Sharon) Oldham, sisters Elaine and Anna, brother and sister-in-law Phil and LaDean Swasey. Preceded in death by stepfather Albert Scott and brother Ralph Romano. Forsyth Sr., Douglas Richard Douglas Richard Forsyth 1943 ~ 2005 Douglas Richard Forsyth, Sr. was called back to the loving arms of our Savior and family members who preceded him on December 21, 2005. There was a joyous reunion with his father and grandmother who passed away when Doug was only eight, and his mother who passed away a year ago. His courageous and valiant struggle with leukemia is over. Doug was born to Harry and Bernice Peck Forsyth on November 4, 1943, his fathers birthday, on the steps of Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah. He married his eternal companion, Andrea Louise Larson on November 3, 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple. Doug was a proud graduate of Orem High (class of 1962). He graduated from BYU in 1968 with a bachelors in social work. He served an honorable mission to the North British mission. His love for his Savior was evident to all those he served. He held various callings in the LDS Church, high councilman, bishop and "worlds most faithful" home teacher. Doug had a firm testimony of the strength of home teaching and scouting and was awarded the Silver Beaver. He was currently serving as an ordinance worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. He retired from McNeil Pharmaceutical after 33 dedicated years of employment. For the past three and a half years he proudly represented the City of Orem as a councilman. His accomplishments are numerous, but his sense of humor and love for his Savior and family will be missed the most. Doug is survived by his wife, Andrea, his children, Doug Jr. (Jodi), Thornton, CO; Darren (Jamie), Saratoga Springs; Daniel (Emily), Las Vegas, NV; Alisha (Corbet) Heath, Highland and Dustin, 17 grandchildren, Taylor, Tanner, McKay, Camryn, Alex, Cassidy, Connor, Mary, Zachary, Nicholas, Whitney, Miranda, Chelsea, McKayla, Tyler, Jarod, Addison. Furlong, Marilyn J. Marilyn J Furlong "Non" Marilyn J. Furlong passed away December 20, 2005 in Oroville, CA. Born July 8, 1941 to Alta Mallder Ryan and George T. Ryan. She married Curt A. Furlong June 15, 1960 in Denver, Colorado. Mom was a brave and beautiful woman with a deep love of family and her Salt Lake City heritage. She had tremendous pride for the city, mountains, West High School and the Utah Jazz. The numerous friendships and extended family members she kept over the years contributed to her life in more ways than anyone could know, especially following the loss of dad after 40 years together. She was truly loved and we know she felt this love, as hours before she slipped away she was able to give us one of her famous smiles and a bat of an eyelash. Mom is survived by sons Derek Furlong, West Jordan, UT; Drew Furlong and Kirsten Shultz, Bellevue, ID; daughter Denise Furlong and Jim Nelson, Oroville, CA; grandchildren Kira, Ryan, Tara, Jonas, and Koko; and sister Joyce Avery. Mom is also survived by an incredible group of extended family and loving friends too numerous to mention but you know who you are. Preceded in death by her husband, mother and father. She was born October 3, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the only daughter of John Wilford Sedgley and Lillian Coleman Sedgley. Jeanne met Alvern Clarence Goff at a church dance, and they became engaged on Valentine's Day in 1947. They were married November 29, 1947 at the Art Barn in Salt Lake City. The marriage was solemnized December 28, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. Jeanne worked as a secretary at First Security Bank for 12 years, and then as an administrative assistant for the Union Pacific Railroad until retirement. She was a member of the National Association of Railway Business Women. Jeanne gave service and devotion to her family, church, and community. She enjoyed making quilts, many of which were donated to the community. Traveling with her family gave her joy. She made the best pies. Jeanne served in many capacities in the LDS Church, and was a PTA president as well as serving on the PTA district council. She enjoyed many years of service as an election judge. She volunteered at the West High School library as well as the local elementary, where she helped young children learn to read. Jeanne is survived by her devoted husband, Ike, brother, Kenneth Sedgley (wife, Betty Ann Back Sedgley), Krum, Texas; children, Terry Goff Prater (husband, Frederick Prater) Salt Lake City, Richard Alvern Goff (wife, Barbara Strebel Goff) West Jordan; nine grandchildren, Susan Prater, Sarah Prater Birch, Kathryn Prater, Michael Prater, Rachel Prater, Shannon Goff Mower, Allison Goff Rushton, Holly Goff, Jeffrey Goff (Chile Rancagua Mission), and four great-grandchildren, Garon Mower, Isaac Mower, Savannah Birch, Azilynn Rushton. Hunsaker, Mary Lee Mary Lee Hunsaker 3/10/1912~12/20/2005 DELTA - Mary Lee Hunsaker, age 93, passed away on December 20, 2005 in Delta. Born March 10, 1912 in Hyde Park to John Ernest and Hattie Vilate Reeder Lee. Graduated from North Cache High School. Married Orlin Wheatley Hunsaker in the Logan LDS Temple on January 9, 1934. She and her husband moved to Delta in 1934 where he was in business until his death in 1973. After raising two sons, Mary went to work for Millard County in 1957 and retired in 1977. She was an active member of the LDS Church where she held such positions as Primary president, YWMIA secretary (12 years), garment center volunteer for 13 years, and ward librarian for 13 years into her eighties. She particularly enjoyed doing temple work for nearly 20 years. She belonged to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Lyric Lore Club for many years. Her last two and a half years were spent in the Millard County Care Center in Delta. She is survived by her son: Terry (Margery) Hunsaker of Concord, CA; grandchildren: Maralee (Gregg) Clifton of Modesto, CA; Patty (Jim) LeSueur of Somerville, NJ; Thomas Hunsaker of Concord, CA; and Scott Hunsaker of Salt Lake City; six great-grandchildren; sister: Jessie Seamons of Hyde Park. Lovell, Mary Wilson Mary Wilson Lovell 1923 ~ 2005 WASHINGTON, UT - Mary Louisa Wilson Lovell, 82, was called Home to her Heavenly Father, Sunday, December 18, 2005, following an extended illness. She was born March 24, 1923 in Duchesne, Utah to Rachel D. Tidwell and Ernest Evans Wilson. She married Thomas D. Lovell on March 18, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized August 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with four children; Lawrence Harper Lovell, Franklin W. Lovell, Robyn Dee Lovell and Kenneth David Lovell. Mary grew up in Duchesne and graduated from Duchesne High School in 1941. She received a Scholarship to BYU and attended two semesters. Unable to afford continuing school and due to World War II, Mary began manufacturing "Ammunition Pellets" at the Ogden Arsenal. In 1943 she was employed at the new Naval Supply Depot in Clearfield, UT in the "Finance and Supply" section until the war ended. Mary's life's joy came from her love for family, friends and Heavenly Father. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; her life was serving others. She humbly accepted numerous callings and leadership positions in Wards and Stakes, wherever they lived. Mary was a faithful servant. She lived in Murray, UT over the years, five years in Twin Falls, ID, 25 years in Bartlesville, OK and 10 years in Washington, UT. Following Tom's retirement in 1985, they served in the Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh Mission and upon returning home they served as full time temple workers in the Dallas Texas Temple. Returning to Utah in 1991, Mary enjoyed being an Ordinance Worker in the Jordan River and St. George Temples serving the Patrons until her health began to fail. She is survived by her husband, Tom Lovell of Washington; her three sons and their wives, Larry (Pat Redd), Frank (Marsha Mayfield), and Ken (Susie Sydenham); 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her brother Ernest J. McPhie, Marvel Maud Epperson Marvel Maud Epperson McPhie 1912 ~ 2005 HEBER CITY - Our most beloved mother, Marvel Maud Epperson McPhie 93, precious grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, returned to her Father in Heaven after a long illness attributed to Alzheimer's disease, and incident to age, on December 19, 2005 in Heber City. Maud was born to Sidney H. and Lelia May Alexander Epperson, in Midway Utah, on January 31, 1912. She married Leslie McPhie October 17, 1929, in Coalville, Utah. Solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, May 12, 1948. Maud attended Wasatch County schools, graduating from WHS in 1929. She delighted in attending her class reunions. She was compassionate, gracious, out-going individual who made friends wherever she went. Her life was one of service, to her family, her church and community, and was happiest always, while serving others. She was a proud and loving mother to her "four handsome sons," as she called them. Maud was a faithful member of the LDS Church, and was called to many positions throughout her lifetime where she served with dedication and a happy heart. She especially loved serving in the Young Woman's Program. She was a volunteer and officer with the Local Red Cross unit, The Grey Ladies in the 40's-50's. She was a member of the Pink Ladies Organization for many years until her illness. She was extremely proud of her heritage and was a lifelong member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was a long time member of the Ladies Study Club, and the Heber Valley Women's Riding Club. She loved her family, and was an excellent cook. She loved to entertain and have family parties. She had a wonderful sense of humor and she so loved and enjoyed her five sisters, they had a lot of fun together throughout their lifetime. She worked for the Valley and Palace Drug Stores in Heber City for more than 30 years, where she offered much love and cheer to everyone she came in contact with, and possibly a home remedy or two. She was a caring, fun loving grandmother to her 14 grandchildren, making each feel they were her favorite, special and loved. She loved going to their activities, and was proud of each one. She enjoyed going on tours with here friends and family to historic places across the U.S., and the Hawaiian Islands. Maud is survived by her four sons and their wives: Bob and Mitzie McPhie, Joe and Gaye McPhie, Charles and Larna McPhie, all of Heber, and Richard and Nancy McPhie of Ogden; three of her seven siblings, Reva Allison of Heber; Evelyn and Jay Fry, of Salt Lake City; Edra Paul of Orem; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Simmons, of Midway; and Gene Mullinax of Diamond Bar, California. Also surviving are her 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, and many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Les, parents, granddaughter Wendy Mcphie, grandsons Bart McPhie, and great grandsons Tyrel McPhie and Kelly Corless. Her brothers Sidney Drew, and Dow Epperson, sisters, Betty Mullinax and LaVonne Simmons. The family wishes to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the blessed staff at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Heber, who have so lovingly and compassionately cared for our dear mother for the past several years. Newbold, Lynn Kay Lynn Kay Newbold 1930 ~ 2005 Lynn Kay Newbold, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 22, 2005 at his home in Murray. He was born August 10, 1930 in Murray, UT to Earl Franks Newbold and Mildred Ilene Salisbury. Married Marjorie Moulton on February 9, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 54 years. Graduated from Cyprus High School (1948) and Stevens Henager College (1961). Served in the Army during the Korean War. Served as Ward Clerk, Stake Clerk, Home Teacher, Young Men's Presidency and was an Ordinance worker at the Jordan Temple at time of death. He was also a Master M-Men. Worked at Kennecott Copper, General Electric, IASCO, Executone, and Granite Furniture. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, square dancing, loved to attend BYU Education Week, many temple tours (last tour was to Nauvoo in September 2005) and BYU Sports. Everyone had to listen to the BYU Fight Song that visited him or called him on the phone. Petersen Palmer, 90, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2005 In Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on March 20, 1915 in Penrose, Utah, a daughter of Engvar and Anna Lee Call Petersen. Wanda married Marcellus Palmer on June 29, 1934 in the Logan LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1978. She was a member of the LDS church serving in the Relief Society and Primary. She also was an ordinance worker at the Jordan River Temple. Wanda taught many people crafts and shared her talents freely. Surviving are three children, Lilis Ann P. Hardy (Larry) of Salt Lake City; Richard M. Palmer (Afton) of Las Vegas, NV; Debra P. Hanson (Brent) of Dammeron Valley, UT; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister. Reed, Richard "Dick" Richard "Dick" Reed 1915 ~ 2005 Richard Fenn Reed, 90. died peacefully at home December 21, 2005. He was born March 17, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Sarah Ackermann and Charles E. Reed. Dick married Catherine Olin on September 25, 1936. Together they raised three children, Ken, Stan and Ann aka Kristina. He married his loving and caring wife Donelda Babbel on October 23, 1975. Dick was well respected in the construction industry. He was Vice President of Gibbons & Reed and was part of the company from 1940 to 1977 when he retired. He was very proud of his many landmarks in the Salt Lake Valley and was very involved in the first phases of the Interstate Highway program and many other highways, streets and airports. Dick led a full life. An avid and accomplished golfer, he was a member of the Salt Lake Country Club for 44 years and served as President of the Salt Lake Country Club in 1979. He was the Club Champion in 1973. When not golfing, he was busy with his many talents, watercolor painting, bird carving, woodworking, fishing and skiing in his earlier years. Above all he was a master teacher, helping and encouraging his grandchildren, great-grandchildren in any project they wanted to do. His ingenuity and "there is a way" attitude were his trademarks. There was nothing he couldn't fix or build. He is survived by his loving wife Donelda, a sister, Dorothy Kyler, brothers Charles (Ann) Reed, and Ralph (Marian) Reed, his son Ken (Judie) Reed, Ogden; Kristina Turner, Vashon Island, Washington; six grandchildren, Mike (Marianne) Reed, Kristen (Chris) Wight, Nicole (Rod) Olsen, Becky (Dave) Croft, Melissa Rogerson, and Calen Winn, 18 great-grand children, and one great-great-grandson. Shields, Wallace Ralph Wallace Ralph Shields 1914 ~ 2005 On December 21, 2005, Wallace Ralph Shields, age 91, passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by his adoring family. He was born February 3, 1914 in Lakeview and reared in Arcadia, Utah. At a young age, he gained a testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ of which he bore powerful witness throughout his life. An honor to the Priesthood, Ralph enjoyed many spiritual gifts, including healing the sick. Ralph served an LDS mission in the East Central States. He enjoyed a long life of church leadership, including as Bishop and High Councilman. At age 91, Ralph was still serving as a High Priest Group Leader and Temple Veil Coordinator in the Jordan River Temple. For decades, he served faithfully in the temples he loved, usually attending weekly. Ralph graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in economics. He became a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy and, during World War II, served in the Pacific arena. Ralph was a great patriot and enjoyed his many friends in the American Legion. After marrying in the Salt Lake Temple on January 22, 1942, Ralph and Gerry enjoyed 63 years of rich, vibrant marriage. They moved to Roosevelt, Utah, where Ralph began his 32-year career as an educator. He served two terms as Roosevelt mayor and 10 years on the City Council and sat on numerous community committees. He received the Total Citizen Award for the State of Utah, an honor that describes him perfectly. In 1997, Ralph and Gerry moved to Salt Lake City, where they made new friends and enjoyed life immensely. Ralph and Gerry had five daughters, Rosemary, Colleen, Lorraine, Joann and Beverly, as well as 20 grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a kind, loving father whose generosity is legendary. Known as "The $100 Man," Ralph was constantly giving $100 checks to family, friends and those in need. People of all walks of life loved, admired and honored Ralph. He met everyone with a handshake, hug and greeting, "How are you this beautiful day?" He was a fabulous husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and colleague. Ralph was kind to all, humbly serving God by serving his fellow men. His passage leaves a void that can never be filled. Ralph fought the good fight and finished his course. "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." (Psalms 116:15) Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Gerry, and daughters Colleen (Jerry) Gardner, Lorraine Litster, Joann Shields, and Beverly (Brett) Thompson. Preceded in death by his parents, siblings and daughter, Rosemary Hood.
