Glen was born to Joseph Smith Bailey and Lillian Astle Bailey April 25, 1935 in Rupert, Idaho. He married Catherine Teresa Lynn in the Mesa, Arizona Temple July 20, 1955. They have six children, 25 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Glen served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the early 1950s. While there, he visited Ireland on leave, and there met his future wife at the local LDS branch. Glen attended Utah State University, and worked for many years as a safety engineer in the aerospace industry, primarily with Thiokol, based in Northern Utah, and at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Glen is survived by his wife; and children, Glen Lynn Bailey (Cheryl), Catherine Bailey Poulsen (Greg), Sharon Bailey Spainhower, Janet Bailey Taylor (Robert), Joseph Lynn Bailey (Kathleen). He is also survived by siblings LaRee Wade, Thurlow Bailey, Ardith Smith, Della Jolley, Valora Evans, Leslie Bailey, Gerald Bailey, and Carol Greenwood. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Bailey; and son, David Lynn Bailey. Brown, Bill Bill Brown 1914 ~ 2005 KENILWORTH - Wilfred Russell Brown, age 91, passed away December 25, 2005 at the Heirloom Inn in Price. Born January 11, 1914 in Billings, Montana to Wilbur and Bertha Brown. Married Arline Houton, September 5, 1936 in Red Lodge, Montana; their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Bill was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as bishop in the Kenilworth Ward, and Branch Clerk in Scofield from 1978-2003. Brother and Sister Brown, enjoyed many friendships over the years and they were especially blessed with their wonderful family in Scofield for nearly 30 years while they served as branch clerk and organist. Bill was a resident of Kenilworth since 1938, where he was known as "Kenilworth's Handyman." He worked in various coal mines in the area where he was a retired member of the U.M.W.A. U.S. Fuel/Hiawatha Local # 6363, retiring at the age of 75. Bill received an award from United Mine Workers of America and the State of Utah for 53 years of no lost time accidents in the mining industry. He will be dearly missed by his family and many longtime friends. Survived by his loving wife, Arline Brown, Price; three sons and their spouses, Ray (Patricia) Brown, Magna, Kenneth (Carol) Brown, South Jordan, Terry (Evelyn) Brown, Price; brother, William (Maxine) Brown, California; sister, Marie Guinder, Washington; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grand-children; and one great great-grand-son. Published in the Deseret News on 12/27/2005. Bushnell, Joyce J. Joyce J. Bushnell 12/23/20 ~ 12/25/05 Joyce J. Bushnell, 85, passed away 25 December 2005 in Fillmore, Utah. She was born in Holden, Utah, 23 December 1920 to Thaddeus Orson and Neva Nixon Johnson. She married Faryl G. Bushnell 4 May 1942 in her parents home. The marriage was later sealed in the Manti Temple. As the consummate homemaker, she was known for delicious food grown in her own garden, a clean and orderly home where everything had its place, and clothing sewn with precision and style. Mother felt very strongly that everyone should be as well educated as possible. Upon her own high school graduation, she attended Brigham Young Academy for three years at a time when very few women had that opportunity. Throughout her life, she remained a lifelong learner and made sure her children and grandchildren were encouraged to seek educational opportunities of every kind. After her husband's death in 1960, Mother began a 27 year career at Millard High School as an administrative secretary to four principals. In 1977, she was honored as the Outstanding School Secretary for the State of Utah. Mother was a charter member of the Old Capitol Quilt Guild where she enjoyed sharing her skills and encouraging younger quilt-ers. Her quilts and quilted projects received numerous awards at the county fair. She and her daughters enjoyed much comradery as they combined their quilting talent for family members. Gardening was her second love where she enjoyed the companionship of her son, Dwight, as they turned the family gardening plot into a beautiful landscaped floral display. Mother's service in the Fillmore 1st Ward LDS Church was long and varied. She shared her love of education and her training in organization in many callings. She and her neighbor, Beth Cahoon, were devoted visiting teaching partners for many years. She shared both letter writing and financial support with her missionary grandchildren. Joyce was blessed with wonderful neighbors who lovingly cared for her throughout her later years. Her family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude for their many kindnesses. Mother is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Haynes R. Fuller (Pat) of Eden, Utah, Mrs. James H. Quigley (Bonnie) of New Canaan, Connecticut; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dwight J. Chivers, Scott Doyle Scott Doyle Chivers 1952 ~ 2005 Scott Doyle Chivers passed away December 24, 2005 at his home in Salt Lake City. Scott was born July 7, 1952 in Salt Lake City to Lola Udell and Bobby Doyle Chivers. Scott grew up in Lehi in a home his parents built along Dry Dreek. The presence of this creek with its ample flow of water, provided many hours of enjoyment for Scott and his siblings. He graduated from Lehi High School where he was active in student leadership. Scott excelled in football and was an All-State football athlete. He was awarded a football scholarship and attended Dixie State College. He earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees, with emphasis in Labor Relations from University of Utah. He worked for many years in the masonry field and was a business agent for the Bricklayer's Union. Scott was an avid fisherman and pursued this interest often. He also enjoyed reading and had an extensive library. He was a kind and gentle man who was well loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Scott is survived by his son, Benjamin Scott Chivers, Laguna Beach, CA; his mother, Lola Chivers Yadron (David), Lehi UT; his brother, Clay Chivers (Kim), Provo, UT; and many nieces and nephews. Dewsnup, Mary Jeannette Fairbanks Mary Jeannette Fairbanks Dewsnup 1920 ~ 2005 Mary Jeannette Fairbanks Dewsnup passed away peacefully December 22, 2005 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, August 12, 1920, the daughter of Claude L. and Mary Ako Burton Fairbanks. She married Edwin Grant Dewsnup in the Salt Lake Temple October 18, 1940. They were the parents of four children. She was an exemplary wife and mother to whom all the skills of rearing a family seemed to come naturally. She took great delight in every aspect of the lives of her husband and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing thrilled her more than to visit them, be visited by them, be with them, hear of their activities, and be a part of their growth and development. She had an uncanny ability to show affection to everyone. Her circle of friends was wide and continued to grow until the time of her passing. She enjoyed making ceramic figurines and porcelain dolls and was extraordinarily accomplished in a variety of crafts and homemaking arts. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in the Relief Society, Primary and Sunday School as both teacher and leader. She and her husband also served a full time mission in the Swiss Temple. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Wesley B. Fairbanks. She is survived by her husband, Edwin Grant and by her daughter, Claudia (Frederick A. Smith); sons, Ralph L. (Mary), Wesley G. (Laura), and Ronald K. (Sharon); 19 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. He was born August 13,1912 to Anton and Mary Zagar Dupin in Spring Glen, Utah. He lived in Spring Glen most of his life. He worked for various auto repair shops in Price and Helper and had his own business for a time. In the 1930's John went to California and worked for Lockheed. He did quality control and final engine tuning on wartime planes. He had a pilot's license and got to fly some experimental aircraft. His last job was with the State Road. John was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers: Annie Dupin, Anton Dupin, Frances Dupin Vouk, Olga Dupin Sterlekar, and Norbert Dupin. He is survived by his nephew and two nieces, Paul (Charlene) Dupin; Patricia (Jerry) Davis; Dee (Glenn) Mathews. Eddington, Afton Peterson Afton Peterson Eddington 1917 ~ 2005 Afton June Eddington, beloved moth-er, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away early Monday, after spending her last mortal day surrounded by family on her favorite holiday. Mother was born June 10, 1917 in SLC, Utah to Charles and Alice Peterson. She graduated from Granite High School and attended two years of business college. She married Lisle Eddington January 23, 1938 (later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple). She was a wonderful and fastidious homemaker, seamstress, and gardener. She was employed many years at Ecker's Studio, after which she served as Director of Volunteers at LDS Hospital. She and dad enjoyed many years of membership in the Sugar House chapter of The Sons of the Utah Pioneers. Mother was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities, including Primary president, Relief Society president and ordinance temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Mother was known and loved for her hospitality, charitable spirit, and her great love of home and family. She possessed style, beauty, grace, and humor. She will be greatly missed. She was the youngest and last surviving member of her Peterson family. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lisle. She is survived by daughters, Patri-cia Christensen (Gary), Barbara Jones (Win), Janet Clapham; son, Robert (Linda); 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Fife, Paul William Paul William Fife 1918 ~ 2005 "I'll be home for Christmas" became a reality as Paul William Fife slipped away peacefully December 24, 2005. He was born February 21, 1918 in Magna, Utah to Leland Taylor Fife and Elizabeth Jackson. Paul married Velda Peterson of Benson, Utah, February 6, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Much of his youth was spent in Sparks, Nevada where he excelled in athletics, student government and drama. He attended the University of Nevada, was drafted and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the army infantry in World War II. After marrying and having two young children, he was recalled to the Korean War and received the Purple Heart. In total, he served his country almost seven years. As a true defender of the faith he spent his life testifying of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, first as a missionary in the Eastern States Mission and finally as a Stake Missionary at the age of 84. Paul and Velda were stalwarts as they gave much of their life strengthening the Saints in the San Francisco Bay area. Paul was known for being a master teacher of the gospel. He served as a scoutmaster, gospel doctrine teacher, high councilor and Bishop. Paul and Velda raised their five children in the Bay area. Paul was a devoted father and husband. He taught his children the Gospel by his life-long example of faithful adherence to the commandments. He also took time to play and laugh with them. His infectious laughter and love of people are a fond memory. Paul's integrity and love of the Lord are a shining legacy to his posterity. Paul worked in San Francisco as a Group Manager for Transamerica Life Insurance. He retired in 1980 and moved with Velda to Provo, Utah. He lived a "balanced life" spending time with his family, serving in the temple, and pursuing his passions of golfing, fishing, and being an avid BYU Cougars fan. He is survived by his loving wife, Velda; children, David (Diana) Fife of Bothell, WA; Janice (Michael) Wimmer of Pleasant View, UT; Bruce Fife of Portland, OR; Julie (Jordan) Clements of Salt Lake City, UT and Steven (Dianna) Fife of Pleasanton, CA. Also surviving are his 21 grandchildren and four 1/2 great-grand-children. Preceded in death by his parents, four siblings and two grandchildren. She was born August 15, 1915 in Kamas, Utah to Parley Ward and Arinda Parke Burbidge. On March 3, 1933, Grace married Nathan R. Gedge in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mom was a very giving person and a very classy lady. She had many friends and all who knew her loved her. She was a dedicated worker at Jaks Bridal Arts and at MaKoffs Department Store where she was the number one sales lady. Survivors include husband, Nathan R. Gedge; daughter, Rinda Watts (Cloris); son, Ronald Gedge (Donna); eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Nygren. Preceded in death by sons, Gerald Gedge and Gary Gedge. He was born February 5, 1935 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa to Irwin Llewlyn Wickham Greenlief and Lucretia Eleanor Ainsworth. Married Sandy Bauer in the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa March 21, 1961; later divorced. Married Susan L. Brady May 1, 1992; later divorced. He graduated from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, then attended Northwestern University Law School in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. Joe was a private attorney, a corporate attorney, a Deputy District Attorney for Salt Lake County, and County Attorney for Rich County, Utah. He served in the U.S. Army Security Agency. He loved the out-doors and was an avid sportsman. He raised and trained hunting dogs. Survived by children, Amy Jo, Marty (Melody), Eric (Jill), and Christine Facemyer; grandchildren, Stuart, Ben, Andy, Jim, Keifer, Kyleigh, and Kaden; and former wife, Sandy. Mary Ernestine Smith Nance, 87, passed away on Christmas Day of cancer, leaving behind her loving husband and family. Loved ones across the veil raised hosannas as they welcomed their noble Mary. Mary Ernestine was born September 4, 1918 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to Harry George Smith and Jesse Pearl Fulton. She grew up in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She married James Henry Nance August 14, 1944. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple August 5, 1968. They recently celebrated 61 years together. They were blessed with four children. Mary lived her life performing kind acts of service and love to everyone she met. She treasured her family and friends as the greatest blessings in life. She had a wonderful gift of keeping in touch with lifelong friends and extended family members. Her home was a welcome gathering place where love and good food were always in abundance. Mary was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She became a surrogate moth-er to every LDS missionary who served in Hot Springs. She served in the presidencies of every auxiliary in the small, dependant LDS branch in Hot Springs and often held two and three callings at once. She was often the first to arrive and the last to leave at every function. She served on the Gulf States Misson Relief Society Board for many years. In her later years Mary worked tirelessly on genealogy, redeeming many generations of her kindred dead. The last few years of her life she was instrumental in raising hundreds of dollars for the Taylorsville Senior Citizen's Center by making and donating beautiful bead dolls. She is survived by her loving husband, James, Orem, UT; twin daughters, Sandra (Ross) Dredge, Orem, UT; Linda (Richard) Hoy, Reno, NV; son, James Jr. (Suzanne), Sandy, UT; daughter, Laura (Tom) Thompson, Spanish Fork, UT. She leaves behind 15 dearly loved grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her family wishes to thank all the kind doctors and caregivers who aided during her illness. Published in the Deseret News on 12/27/2005. Newson, Frederick M. Frederick M. Newson "Old Fred is Dead" Fred Newson, age 87, died Monday December 26, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Fred was born September 18, 1918 in San Francisco, California the son of Frederick M. and Alfrie Sadler New-son. Fred graduated from South High School (Salt Lake City) and the University of Utah with an engineering degree. He was drafted into the U.S.A.A.F. in 1942. He served in the South Pacific on various islands. Fred returned to Salt Lake City in December of 1945 and became a part owner of a jewelry store. Fred was involved in the jewelry business his whole life. He had a passion and a love for educating others about jewelry. He had many wonderful friends in New York and will be missed. He always expressed gratitude for the many wonderful people he was able to meet while "working" at his lifelong hobby of jewelry. Fred worked most of his professional life as an engineer, having expertise in electrical, chemical and mechanical engineering. Fred worked at Litton Data Systems and was part of the team that built the first commercial microwave oven. Fred received numerous patents for his engineering work. Fred also served as an industrial hygienist for the State of Utah, being recognized as an expert on worker safety, especially in the mining industry. Married Grace Yeates September 20, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. He is survived by his son, Doug (Christy); and six grandchildren, David, Elizabeth, Ryan, Lindsey, Amy and Ashley Grace, Las Vegas, Nevada. Also survived by his brother, H. Don Newson (Beverly), Traverse City, Michigan. Preceded in death by his wife, Grace; son, Mark; and parents. Fred cared for Grace daily for five years while she had Alzheimer's. Fred and Grace traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe, Central America, and Asia. Fred especially loved Guatemala. Fred was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Fred served as a teacher, advisor, clerk, home teacher, group leader, and he especially loved working with the Primary, and the Primary children. He was an active member of the Mormon Battalion and the Sons of Utah Pioneers. Fred built four houses and one cabin during his lifetime, he was very proud of these accomplishments. Fred had a keen mind and a photographic memory. He would constantly amaze us at his ability to recall information he had seen or read from previous years. Fred could speak and write Spanish fluently and loved to converse in Spanish. The family expresses thanks and gratitude to the staff at CareSource in Salt Lake City. Bob was born December 14, 1929 in Vernal to Soren N. Nielson and Clara Braithwaite Nielson. He was the fifth of five children. He married Lawella Evans Karren May 23, 1965. Bob graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelors Degree. He was hired by the Utah State Fish and game and started as a Conservation Officer in Green River, Utah. In 1962 he transferred to Vernal as a Regional Biologist. In 1963 he was promoted to Regional Game Manager, a position he held until he retired. Bob had 38 years of public service. Ross, Walter Ronald Walter Ronald Ross "Mr. Wonderful" Walter Ronald Ross died peacefully on Christmas Day 2005 at his home from complications with Parkinson's disease. Ron was born May 3, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Walter Reinhold and Ardell Watson Price Ross. He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Being an only child, he enjoyed the companionship of his cousins and close friends as brothers and sisters. He graduated from East High School. While in high school, he earned his stripes in ROTC and afterwards entered the Army National Guard as part of the 115th Engineers. He was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict years to serve in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, and was honorably discharged shortly before his company was sent overseas. During Christmas leave in 1951, he met Vera Jean Harrigal at a party. They married December 3, 1953 at the Park Stake 31st Ward. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple February 2, 1955. Together they raised five children, living in the same home for 49 years. They recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. In 1948, Ron's father and mother opened Ardell's Fine Pastries and Catering. He worked with his parents, and then carried on the family business after his father's death in 1972. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1984 and closed the bakery in June 1986. He loved to travel. In 1959, he gave Jean a Christmas cruise to Hawaii and he fell in love with the islands. He joined with American Express to conduct successful tours to Hawaii until 1976. Ron was always involved in sports and recreation. He enjoyed racing boats and swimming. He loved winter sports, especially skiing, hockey, sledding, and ice skating. He loved football and baseball, and he coached little league football and community and church softball. He enjoyed camping in the Uintahs, fishing, and deer hunting. He was involved in a bowling league and won many competitions. One of his favorite pastimes was to watch the airplanes, trains, and sunsets. He liked Saltaire, riding the Giant Racer, and dancing. He was talented with painting and drawing. He loved music and studied with concert pianist Grant Johannesan. He sang with a beautiful tenor voice and enjoyed entertaining his family. Ron exemplified true compassion and friendship. He could remain calm in a crisis and was always there to help anyone. He was fun loving and social. Everyone was a friend, and he met many people by simply starting a conversation. He was always happy, beginning each day with a smile. Family meant everything to him, and he never missed anything involving them. Through the pain of his illness, he kept a positive attitude and a smile, very patient, never complaining. He demonstrated endurance to the end with humility and submission. He lived up to his nickname, "Mr. Wonderful." Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ardell Ross. He is survived by his wife, Jean; and his five children, Jodi Lynn Jenson (Ther-on); Geri Ann Gaskill, Steven Ronald Ross (Maureen), Robyn Jean Mock (R. Rumel, Ronald Keith Ronald Keith Rumel 1931 ~ 2005 Ronald Keith Rumel, loving husband, father and grandfather died peacefully in his sleep early Friday, December 23, 2005. He was born November 29, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Kenneth Lyon Rumel and Eudora Elvira Scarlet. Ron married Gloria Cromar Rumel May 4, 1957. Later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple June 18, 1963. Worked in the baptistery at the Jordan River Temple and was a high priest in the River Ridge 8th Ward. They have four children, Gary Lynn Rumel (Laurie), David Lynn Rumel (deceased July 22, 1999), Lisa Crestinger (Tim) and Paul Jay Rumel. He is survived by children; and grandchildren, Angela, Spencer, Curtis, Emily, Heather; step-grandson, Aaron Crestinger; and deceased granddaughter, Jamie Rumel; a sister, Marlene Huckabay; and brother, Robert Scarlet Rumel (Marylou); and numerous nephews and nieces, sister-in-laws, and brother-in-laws. Ron graduated from Granite High School and served four years in the United States Air Force. He was President of Rumel Pattern & Manufacturing and was a very talented wood carver and patternmaker for 45 years. His work is recognized in many places in the United States in industrial castings and historical restoration work. He sang bass in the "One More Time" barbershop quartet, winning the Seniors International Barbershop Quartet Contest in 1992, and earned 1st place in the Rocky Mountain District. He also won 1st place in the Rocky Mountain District Contest in 1979 with the "Tempo Squires." He was nominated "Mr. Woodshed of 1974, and was formerly president of the Beehive Statesman Chorus. Singing was one of the most rewarding experiences of his life. Photography was a hobby where he won many ribbons while a member of the Salt Lake Photochrome Club. Sargent, Keith Webster Keith Webster Sargent In Loving Memory A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Keith Webster Sargent passed away December 24, 2005 at his home after a long illness. He was born May 22, 1922 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to James Albert and Elva Webster Sargent. He graduated from Ucon High School and attended University of Idaho So. Branch Carpentry Trade School. He married Flora Beth Weber March 18, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. Served in the Navy in World War II in the Aleutian Islands as a Seabee. He was an active member of the LDS Church who served as bishop of the 3rd Ward, high councilman, and Scoutmaster in Salt Lake City. He worked many years in his own construction company (Sargent Construction Company) as a general building contractor and later worked and retired from the Salt Lake City Redevelopment Agency. His passion was woodworking and he had built many homes, pieces of furniture and turned ordinary wood into beautiful masterpieces. He loved to ride his horses, and in his later years raising llamas. He loved animals of all kinds. He loved his children and grandchildren very much and especially playing with and teaching them to drive his truck. He has quite a sense of humor and loved playing tricks and teasing. He has a great love for the ocean and the great outdoors, camping, hiking, and whittling sticks into walking sticks, flutes, and interesting carvings. He would have been perfectly happy just living in the mountains. He loved going on short vacations with mom after they retired and had many happy times and memories of those trips and the time that they were able to spend together. We will truly miss his love and presence in our lives. To all the brothers, sisters and grandchildren who have been there to support and help with mom and dad. They love each and every one of you and appreciate all you have done. "Till we meet again, Dad, we love you." Sherwood, age 88, passed away December 25, 2005 in Bountiful, Utah. She was born in Midway, March 9, 1917. She was the youngest child of Nels Joseph and Mary Ann Orgill Johnson. She had one surviving brother, Ralph J. Johnson. Loretta married Clifford John Sherwood March 22, 1942 at Midway, Wasatch County, Utah. Clifford passed away March 22, 1977 in Bountiful, Davis County, Utah. They raised three children in Bountiful, who now survive her. They are Mrs. Glen T. Williams (Karen) of West Carrollton, Ohio; Mr. Ralph C. Sherwood (Cheryl) of West Bountiful, Utah; and Mrs. Lew E. Jeppson (Ann) of North Salt Lake, Utah She had nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was talented in handwork. Her family and many others have received quilts, tatting, embroidery, crochet, and knitted items made by her hands. She was a retired teacher. She started the first public school for special needs children in the State of Utah; receiving many honors for her work, including being named as teacher of the year. She also taught at South Davis Junior High, and assisted many students with their reading skills. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in may church callings. In later years, she played the organ at the Salt Lake Temple, and was especially active in the extraction program in connection with family history and temple work. She met the love of her life on a blind date and shortly after married Rex LaVell Silcox October 14, 1950 in South Jordan, Utah. At that time Rex and Elaine moved to Tooele where they resided until her passing. Rex and Elaine were blessed with three wonderful children, Randy, Shari, and Scott. Together they spent 55 years of wedded bliss raising their family and living life to the fullest. Elaine worked at Tooele Army Depot for 30 years. She worked as an instrument repairman, heavy duty mechanic and equipment inspector. She made many good friends working at the depot and cherished those friends for her life. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elaine is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Rex, Tooele; her three children, Randy (Lori) Silcox, Midvale, Shari Reynolds, Mesquite, NV, and Scott (Lory) Silcox of Tooele. He was awarded three National Hall of Fame Awards for his service as a leader, player, and coach for deaf athletes; a culmination of 60 years of service. She was born March 15, 1914 in Mammoth, Utah and was the third child of John Franklin and Ruby Hunt Nielsen. At the age of two, the family moved to Salt Lake City where she attended school and graduated from West High as well as West High Seminary. On March 15, 1934 she married Donald Stewart Whitehead in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions including a full time mission with her husband. She is a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and comes from a strong pioneer heritage. Her interests besides caring for her children and church work included music, traveling, cooking, and quilt making, having made over 150 quilts. She is survived by her seven children, Gerald (Charlene) Whitehead, Norma (Kelvin) Hoover, Ronald (Merilyn) Whitehead, Marilyn (Joseph, deceased) Henricksen, Kenneth (Susan) Whitehead, Robert (Phyllis) Whitehead, and Cheryl (Michael) Spencer. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; as well as two sisters, Mary Hazeldine and Audrey Cannon; and one brother, Merrill Nielsen. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30th, 11 a.m. at the Center Ward, 874 N. Starcrest (1840 W). A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Road, and one hour prior to services at the church. The family would like to thank those of Hospice who were so kind and helpful to mom, and her many friends and members of the Center Ward.
