Andrus, Shawna Colleen Salazar
Shawna Colleen Salazar Andrus 9/30/1979 ~ 2/6/2005 Our precious little
Patches, Shawna Colleen Salazar Andrus returned to the loving arms of her
Father in Heaven on Sunday, February 6, 2005, due to injuries sustained in a
tragic automobile accident in Flagstaff, Arizona. She was born on Sunday,
September 30, 1979, to Michael Shawn and Colleen Jayne Smith Salazar at St.
Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Shawna, and the love of her life,
Joshua Brock Andrus, celebrated their first wedding anniversary on August 30,
2004. Shawna graduated from Taylorsville High School in 1998, and was employed
at Discover Card. Shawna and Joshua enjoyed spending time with their fat cat,
Tonto. Shawna will be remembered as an uncomplicated and perfect person. She
loved everything purple and collected anything related to frogs. Shawna was a
strong willed woman. She was charming and loved making new friends. Shawna's
dream was to become a police officer, following in the footsteps of her Uncle
John. Shawna is survived by her devoted husband Joshua, her parents, Mike and
Colleen, brothers and sisters, Melissa (Jim Ranke-Joshua's best friend),
Michael Jr., Angela, John, and Patrick. She is also survived by her
father-in-law Brock Andrus, mother-in-law Sherry, Joshua's sister Lexi, as
well as her grandparents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Shawna was
preceded in death by her Uncle Joel and Aunt Carmen. In order to provide
Joshua sufficient time to recover from his injuries and to be in attendance,
the Vigil Service will be held Sunday, February 20, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. Funeral
Mass will be celebrated Monday, February 21, 2005, at 11 a.m. All services
will be held at St. John the Baptist Parish, 300 East 11800 South, Draper,
Utah. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt

like to express our deep appreciation for the overwhelming love and support we
have been receiving at this most tragic time. Shawna will be immeasurably

Barker, Joseph Vane
Joseph Vane Barker 1917 ~ 2005 After nine long years of much physical struggle
with Parkinson's Disease, never once complaining and enduring to the end, our
father, grandfather, brother, teacher and friend returned home to our Heavenly
Father on February 18, 2005. Joe was born August 4, 1917 in Escalante, Utah to
Josiah Barker and Lucy Adelia Allen. He spent his childhood in Escalante until
he left to serve a mission to the Western States. After his mission, he joined
the Army Air Force in 1942 and received an honorable discharge in 1945. He
then attended BYU and graduated in 1949 and then continued on at the
University of Utah getting a Master's Degree in Education. He married Zola
Cooper on September 2, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death
November 27, 2004. He taught school for 33 years and retired in 1982. "Mr.
Barker" the teacher at Libby Edwards Elementary was blessed to have several of
his students care for him during his illness as medical professionals. This
pleased him very much. He was an active member in the LDS Church, serving in
many positions. He was a veil worker in the Salt Lake Temple for 12 years. He
is survived by his two daughters, Anne (Mark) Whitlock and Teri Lynne (Jerry)
Moore, four grandchildren, Kara, Jake, Mitchell and Elizabeth, two great
grandchildren Kaylee and Kameron and his brother Robert (Aub). He was preceded
in death by his wife, daughter, Elizabeth, one sister and two brothers. The
family would like to express special thanks to all the compassionate and
devoted caregivers that attended to his every need; his brother-in-law Jay
Cooper, Jacinta, his guardian angel and all the Haven Home Healthcare Staff.
Funeral Services will be held Wed., February 23, 2005, at 12:00 p.m. at
Foothill 1st Ward Chapel at 1930 South 2100 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. The
family will receive friends at a viewing Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00
p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah, and one
hour prior to services on Wednesday. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Bennett, Vera Nielsen
Vera Nielsen Bennett Beloved Mother & Grandmother Vera Nielsen Bennett, our
loving mother and grandmother, passed away February 18, 2005, with her
family's love and presence around her. She was born June 7, 1922 in
Taylorsville, Utah to Jens and Caroline Marie Nielsen, where she lived for
most of her life. She was a member of the LDS Church. She was married to Doyle
"Jack" Bennett, October 12, 1946 until his death, July 3, 1995. Vera adored
her family, and welcomed all neighbors and friends into her home. She loved
the outdoors and playing her afternoon card games with family and friends. She
is survived by her children, Linda (Floyd) McCluskey, Beverly Egleston, Brent
(ReNae), Ralph (Rhonda), DeWayne (Cyndie), Mike (Julie), Lynn (Kathy) and Lori
(Dennis) Cook; 31 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren (with three on the
way); loving sisters, Clara Dunroe, Norma Gardner and Dorothy Rupp. Preceded
in death by her loving husband, Doyle "Jack"; five brothers, John, Melvin,
William "Bill", Clarence "Bud", Harold "Sam", and sister, Ethelyn Eatchel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 23rd, 2 p.m. at Redwood
Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Rd. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening
from 6 - 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the mortuary.

Biggs, Evelena Price Howell
Evelena Biggs 1939 ~ 2005 On February 17, 2005, Evelena Price (Howell) Biggs
passed away after long fight with a variety of physical ailments. Born in
Bradfordsville, Kentucky, on May 13, 1939 to Frank and Pearl Price, she was
raised by her loving step-father, Myron Wade, in Ogden, Utah. She was a
life-long member of the L.D.S. Church, and it was an important part of her
life. Evelena is survived by her loving sister, Corrine Smothers, and her
children, Ronald Howell, the eldest, followed by Pamela Young, Ken Howell, Bev
Reynolds, John Howell, Mike Howell, Karen VanHulten, Carrie Lund and Paul
Howell. She has 33 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, who were the
center and light of her life. She is greatly missed by all who knew and loved
her. She was preceded in death by her older brother, Alden Price, and both her
parents and step-father. Evelena loved to cook, camp, and watch movies with
her grandkids, and loved to beat all of them at Chinese checkers. She loved to
sing at church and with her kids, and welcomed everybody into her heart.
Evelena lived most of her adult life in Ogden, Utah, followed by a few years
in Bountiful, and several years in Salt Lake City. She had recently moved to
Roy, Utah to be closer to her family. Services will be held at the Country
Meadows Ward in West Haven, Utah, at 3628 S. 2700 W. on Wed., February 23,
2005. There will be a viewing at 10 a.m. and funeral services will follow at
11a.m. Evelena will be interred at Ogden City Cemetary at 1875 Monroe Blvd,
Ogden, Utah. Donations will be accepted in lieu of flowers. Please contact Bev

Cannegieter, Morris W.
Morris W. Cannegieter 1917 ~ 2005 Morris William Cannegieter, 87, beloved
father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully February 18,
2005 in St. George, Utah of causes incident to age. Born March 21, 1917 to
Florence Louise Morris and William Cannegieter in Murray, Utah. Married Velva
Knudson November 24, 1939, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Graduated
from Utah State University. Received a master's degree from the University of
Utah. While at Utah State, he performed the lead in several operas. He was
known throughout his life for his beautiful singing voice. Morris taught
school in Idaho and Utah, spending most of his career in the Granite School
District in Salt Lake City. He was principal of three elementary schools and
two junior high schools and was also district music supervisor for Granite
School District. In 1949 Morris organized the Olympus Male Chorus, which he
led for nearly 40 years. During that time, the chorus performed throughout the
Mountain West. Morris loved golf, swimming, fishing and softball, but more
than anything, he loved his family. He is survived by his son William (Lynne)
of Salt Lake City, and daughters Julie Rideout (Douglas), Iowa City, Iowa, and
Lynne Wilkey (David), St. George, Utah; eleven grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren; sisters Helen Young and Virginia Madsen. Preceded in
death by his wife Velva, sisters Erma Beckstead, Stella Johnson, Florence
Olson, and Margaret Brissel, and granddaughter Michelle. Funeral services will
be held Tuesday, February 22, at 1 p.m. at the Millcreek 8th Ward, 4600 S. 600
E. Viewing Monday, February 21, from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760
So. State St. and Tuesday at the ward from 11:45-12:45. Interment Murray City
Cemetery.

Clayton, Paul Busath
Paul Busath Clayton 1914 ~ 2005 Paul Clayton, age 91, passed away on Feb. 14,
2005 at his daughter's home in Draper, Utah from leukemia. Born January 17,
1914 in Salt Lake City to Peter Affleck and Agnes Busath Clayton, he moved to
Los Angeles, California when he was 15 years old. He was the eldest child of
five sons and one daughter. One of the highlights of his life was serving as
an LDS missionary in Holland from 1936 to 1939. He married June Carrol
Anderson on June 11, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for
forty-seven years until her death February 16, 1989. They were the parents of
four children. For over fifty years, he was a practicing architect in Southern
California and other parts of the world. One of his most notable
accomplishments was designing Harvey's Broiler in Downey, California--a true
Southern California car culture landmark. Harvey's was a favorite cruising
destination often clocking 5,000 classic cars per weekend during its heyday.
From the early 70's, he designed manufacturing plants for Elixir Industries
all over the country and was actively working until last Fall when he became
ill. He is survived by his four children, Pam (Ron) Bailey, Craig (Rose)
Clayton, Paula (Don) Walters, and Kim (Mark) Robinson, sixteen grandchildren,
and eight great-grandchildren, as well as his brothers, Byron and Peter
Clayton and sister Jane Jensen. He was preceded in death by his wife, June;
his two brothers, Robert and Russell (Ted) Clayton, and one
great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Marrott. Viewing Monday, February 21, from 6:30
to 8:30 p.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3888 S. Workman Mill
Rd., Whittier, CA. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at

Eugenia Sanders Cochran 1914 ~ 2005 Mrs. Eugenia Cochran, 90, of North Salt
Lake, UT and former resident of Wilmington, NC, died February 16, 2005 in
Bountiful, UT. She was born November 28, 1914 in Hampstead NC the daughter of
Charles W and Dena Risley Sanders. She was a member of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints and devoted many hours in giving compassionate
service and enjoyed pursuing her genealogy. She is survived by her son Allen
and wife Annetta of North Salt Lake, UT; three grandchildren, Mignon of North
Salt Lake; Jasone and Cara of Pocatello ID; and Adrian and Amie of Woods Cross
UT; and two great-grandchildren Caitilin and Jaxone; a brother Alfred Sanders
and wife Alma of Leland, NC; and four sister-in-laws, Lucy Cochran of
Wilmington NC; Eula Petty of Norfolk VA; Jeannette Ward and Shirley Bartlett
both of Black Mountain NC. Preceded in death in 2001 by her husband of 64
years, Ernest A Cochran. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 21,

Court, Bertha Ann Brown
Bertha Ann Brown Court 1908 ~ 2005 Our loving mother, grandmother, great
grandmother, great-great grandmother, Bertha Ann Brown Court passed away
February 18, 2005 in Bountiful, Utah. She was born June 22, 1908 in
Centerville, Utah to Henry C. and Pearl L Duncan Brown. She married Byron O.
Court August 29, 1929 in Malad, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in
the Bountiful LDS Temple; he died November 24, 1996. Together they had eight
children. Bertha was well known for her organ music and loving way. She loved
to do beautiful crochet work and to give it away for any occasion. She worked
for Granite School District for twenty years. Survived by children, Melladene
(Mack) Wilkins, Ray (Lorraine) Court, Gail (Harold) Rossberg, Janice (Bill)
VandeMerwe, Grant (Lynda) Court, and Sam Court; twenty grandchildren;
eighty-six great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; and sister,
Ida Bennett. Preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Gary; daughter,
Joan; five brothers; and three sisters. A special thank you to the people who
loved and cared of her at Life Care Center of Bountiful. Funeral services will

Curtis, Roger William "Bill"
Roger William "Bill" Curtis 1920 ~2005 On Sunday, February 6, our father
passed away peacefully, after beating his daughter one last time at cribbage.
Roger was born in Buchanan, Michigan on August 20, 1920 as the second of two
sons to Lloyd Norton and Gertrude Whelan Curtis. Roger was the loving and very
patient father of seven children, Linda, Susan, Michael, Jennie and Paul with
his first wife Beverly Louise Wilson and two step children, Naomi and Jack
from his second marriage to Lula Belle Current Walker. He also considered his
children's spouses his own sons and daughters: Larry, Tom, Corinne, Jeanne and
Ernie. He was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grand-
children and one great-great. He also left behind his adoring dog, Pesty 2. He
was predeceased by his loving brother and business partner, James Leroy Curtis
in 1988; his wife and the mother of his five children Beverly Louise Wilson
Curtis in 1959; Lula Belle Current Walker Curtis, his wife, travel partner and
the mother of his two stepchildren in 1998. He was a proud citizen and war
veteran of our fine country, having served as a Storekeeper 1st class for the
U.S. Navy in the Aleutian Islands Campaign during World War II. He was
dedicated and passionate to L.N. Curtis & Sons, where as a founding partner
with his father and brother, he labored and loved for 69 years. At the time of
his death, Bill Curtis was Chairman of the Board and Secretary of L.N. Curtis
& Sons. The firm was established in 1929 providing products and services to
Fire Departments in the western U.S. and the US Military worldwide. He served
as the Chief Executive Officer for over 60 years. He was an honorary Fire
Chief many times over, a life member of numerous fire-related organizations
and he maintained membership in a several fire agency associations. He was a
member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Orinda Lodge #122 since 1947. A Walnut
Creek resident since 1947, our dad enjoyed traveling the world, along with
rock hunting, the camaraderie of those he spent time with fishing and hunting
and puttering in the garden. His most important mission was to teach the
values that he held close and dear: fairness, equality, passion, commitment,
hard work, loyalty, generosity, determination and compassion for those who
find themselves down and out. At his request, no memorial services will be
held. His ashes will be scattered at sea by the immediate family. He had a
life long commitment to those who are hungry, having been hungry himself as a
young boy during the depression. Those wishing to make a gift or contribution
in his name are encouraged to do so with a food bank and/or homeless shelter
of their choice, St. Vincent de Paul free dining room in Oakland, The American
Red Cross or the Salvation Army. All our family expresses their thanks and
appreciation to all who have shown their concern and have been offering their
prayers. Roger, Bill, Dad, Grandpa, Papa, our hero, is gone from us now, but
his values and his spirit will remain. We will all dearly miss this great man,
gentleman and gentle man.

DeShazo, Susan Mann
Susan Mann DeShazo 1/25/51 ~ 2/17/05 Susan Mann DeShazo, daughter of Clarence
Mann and Lenore Mann, was born January 25, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Susan
attended Highland High and the University of Utah. She pursued a career in
health care as a speech therapist. Susan is survived by the family of her
husband, Dennis DeShazo; his three brothers Donald DeShazo, John DeShazo and
Jerry DeShazo; three daughters Roxanne Rotticci, Michelle Foster and Nancy
Young and their children; her brother Mike Mann, his wife Marla and their
children Kelly Mann (Rondi), Steve Mann and Michelle Baggett (Joe Bob) and
their families; her brother Greg Mann's family; nephews Travis Mann and Clint
Mann; and her special aunt, Betty Van Leeuwen. Susan is preceded in death by
her husband Dennis DeShazo; her parents Clarence and Lenore Mann and her
brother Greg Mann. Susan's beauty and charm will be missed. Memorial services

Drake, Fae O.
Fae O. Drake "Grandma" Althera "Fae" Ostler Drake, beloved wife, mother,
grandmother and great- grandmother, passed peacefully from this life at home
on February 17, 2005, following a long illness, which she faced with courage.
Fae was born July 21, 1926 in Sandy, Utah, one of seven children born to John
Thomas and Mary Myrtle Bodell Ostler. Mom grew up in Sandy, graduating from
Jordan High School. She and husband, Kelvin J. Drake Jr., were sealed on
November 21, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. They loved and supported each other
through 58 years of marriage. Mom and Dad made their home in Midvale, Utah,
where they enjoyed raising their five children. She was a wonderful mother,
homemaker and companion. Additionally she was employed part-time as a
secretary to various companies, often working alongside her sisters. Mom was a
faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She
especially enjoyed serving in the Young Women's program, in the Junior Sunday
School and the Primary. She saw only the best in everyone and brought out the
best in others. She was so full of life. Her sense of humor was her trademark
and was a delight to anyone blessed to make her acquaintance. It served her
well even to the end of her life. Special thanks to niece, Sherry Eckman, for
her loving service and attention to Mom. Also, thanks to our friends at
Harmony Hospice, particularly Becky, Celena, Lezlee and Rose. Fae is survived
by her husband, Kelvin; son, Russell (Nancy) Drake; son, Bryan (Linda) Drake;
daughter, Shelee (Rodney) Brady; son, Tom (Nancy) Drake; 22 grandchildren, 14
great-grandchildren; sister, Pearl Pollick; brothers, Joseph Ostler and James
Ostler; brother-in-law, Blaine Berrett; many nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by son, Larry Everett Drake; her parents; infant brother,
William; brother, Everett Ostler; and sister, Verla Berrett. Funeral services
will be held Tues., February 22, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Midvale 3rd Ward
Chapel, 7825 So. Olympus St. (220 West). There will be a viewing Monday 6-8
p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, and Tuesday 10-10:45 a.m. at the

Brenda Sue Davis Dunn 3/22/1941 ~ 2/16/2005 Brenda Sue Davis Dunn has been
reunited with her loving husband, George Leonard Dunn, Jr., in their eternal
journey. Brenda was born in Park City, Utah, to Kenneth Krehl Davis and Zelma
Parcell. She is survived by her sister Darlene Davis Dudley, four children
(Gordon Douglas White, Cheryl Lynn White Spencer, George Eric Dunn, and
Leonard Krehl Dunn), many grandchildren, and a few great grandchildren. Brenda
lived a simple life. She was raised in Provo, attended Timpanogos Elementary,
Dixon Jr. High, and Provo High School. Brenda had a love for music, animals,
and dolls. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February
24, 2005 at Redwood Memorial, 6500 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan.

Ericson Jr., Marshall G.
Marshall G. Ericson, Jr. 8/29/1920 ~ 2/18/2005 Our beloved and loving husband,
father, grandfather and great grandfather Marshall G. (Eric) Ericson, returned
to his Heavenly Father on February 18, 2005. He was the second of two children
of Marshall G., Sr. and Catherine Thomson Ericson, born on August 29, 1920 in
Salt Lake City. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints to the California Mission. He married his sweetheart of
sixty years, Wanda Nielson on Sept. 4, 1944 in the Arizona Temple. They are
the loving parents of Brent G.; Wanda (John) Southerland; Susan Fors; Jackie
(Don) Cannon and Kim Robison. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air
Force during World War II. Upon his returned he joined his father in the
family plumbing business, M.G. Ericson Plumbing and Heating. He was a long
time member of the Salt Lake Rotary Club. Marshall's artistic talents were
shown in his water colors, Christmas tree displays, jewelry making and the
architecture of two of their homes. He had a love and interest in animals and
raised various types of birds and horses. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and
golf. He truly loved his Heavenly Fathers and had a deep testimony which was
evident in his selfless church service. In addition to may church callings, he
and his wife worked in the Salt Lake Temple for 11 years and served an LDS
mission to the England Bristol Mission. He is survived by his wife, children;
18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents;
sister, Helen; daughter-in-law, Carolyn and grandson Peter. Funeral services
will be held, Monday, February 21, 2005, 12:00 noon at the Brighton 2nd Ward
Chapel, 2561 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.). Friends may call Sunday, February 20,
2005, at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) from 6-8 p.m. and
the day of the service at the church from 11:00-11:45 a.m. Interment Murray

Fletcher, Wanda I.
Wanda I. Fletcher 1917 ~ 2005 Wanda I. Fletcher, 87, loving mother,
grandmother, great-grand-mother and friend died February 17, 2005. Born
November 10, 1917, in Salt Lake City to John Nils Isaac and Winnifred Wagstaff
Isaac. Graduated from West High School in 1935. Wanda married her sweetheart
Herbert (Al) Fletcher on November 6, 1945. Marriage later solemnized in the
Salt Lake Temple. She was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many

Salt Lake City Corp. A truly loving mother; mom made her husband and family
her first priority and her greatest joy was spending time with them. Wanda is
survived by her three children, Judy (Gary) Meacham, Bountiful, UT; Craig
(Heidi) Fletcher, Sandy, UT; John (Lori) Fletcher, Farmington, UT; 10 adoring
grandchildren, 19 great-grand-children, sister; LaVon (Newell K.) Roberts,
SLC, brother; Ronald (Chloe) Isaac, WVC, Preceded in death by parents;
brothers Phil and Douglas; sisters Margaret and Bettie and her loving husband
of 57 years Herbert (Al) Fletcher. The family would like to thank the staff of
Bountiful House and Wanda's bingo buddies, as well as the staff of Avalon Care
Center in Bountiful. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 22,
2005, 11:00 a.m. at the Rose Park Ward, 760 North 1200 West, Salt Lake City. A
viewing will be held Monday, February 21, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin
Mortuary, 260 East South Temple and one hour prior to funeral services at the

Fredrickson, Eugene Vincent
Eugene Vincent Fredrickson 1930 ~ 2005 KANOSH - Eugene Vincent Fredrickson
passed away February 18, 2005 at the Fillmore Community Hospital. He was born
September 7, 1930 to Vincent Andrew and Vila Kinsey Fredrickson in Lehi, Utah.
He attended various schools in the area graduating from Provo High School. He
married Doris Miner Damico in Provo, Utah on March 3, 1950 and their marriage
was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 10, 1951. To this
union was born four sons and two daughters, John (Deceased), Vicki (Arnold)
Rasmussen, Kevin (Deceased), Sherri (Paul) Royal, David Eugene and Dennis
James. Also a granddaughter who was adopted after her mothers death, Stephanie
(Randy) Mack. He has 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by a brother Ronald, Douglas and Lewis and sisters, Betty
Fredrickson and Loretta Kropf. His hobbies were many and no one was ever safe
when he had his camera out. He worked for Geneva Steel for over 29 years. He
loved life and all his many friends. He loved his children and grandchildren.
He would have celebrated his 55th year of marriage with his wife next month on
the 3rd. He and his wife learned to love Kanosh and all the very special
people who live there. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February
23, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Kanosh LDS Ward Chapel. Friends and family may pay
their respects on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Church in Kanosh and
again on Wednesday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in
the Kanosh Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary of Fillmore.

Giles, William H.
William H. Giles 1918 ~ 2005 William Hayes Giles, Jr., age 86, passed away
February 17, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bill was born June 14, 1918 to
William Hayes Giles, Sr. and Leora Oregon Watts in Mulberry, Florida. Bill
grew up in Florida being raised by his maternal grandmother who he adored.
After graduation from high school, he moved to California to seek work with
the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.) in their many work projects. He later
worked for the California Road and Bridge Department. Bill earned his 32nd
Degree as a Freemason on May 22, 1948 in Sacramento, California. Masonic
values had deep meaning for Bill as they represented morals in a world or sin.
He married Frances Emogene Crow March 30, 1957 in Sacramento, California. She
was the love of his life and his abiding devotion to her stemmed from his
beliefs of character and ideals. Bill and Frances joined the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1968. Their marriage was later solemnized for
time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on October 9, 1970. Bill and
Frances moved to Salt Lake City to be close to the values they loved where
Bill worked as a custodian for the Church. Bill was an avid reader and loved
history. He served as a ward clerk for many years as well as a temple worker.
He was preceded in death by his beloved Frances. Funeral Services will be held
on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. at the Garden Park Ward, 1250 Yale
Avenue in Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
prior to the funeral. Interment Larkin Sunset Lawn.

Heaton, George Earl
George Earl Heaton 7/11/1905 ~ 2/17/2005 George Earl Heaton, 991/2, of Alpine,
Utah passed away February 17, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the comfort of
his daughter Nanell's home. Born, July 11, 1905 in Orderville, Utah the son of
William Hoyt and Persis Esplin Heaton. He married Jennie Palmer on June 1,
1926 in the St. George LDS Temple. They were blessed with two daughters.
Jennie passed away on October 27, 1932. He later married Bertha Jolley on
August 29, 1934 in the St. George LDS Temple. Together, they had four
children. Bertha passed away April 10, 2003. George lived through a century of
changes. He remembered the first car, the first airplane, and the first
television. He was a dairy farmer, rancher, sheep herder, hunter, fisherman,
jokester, and was loved by everyone who knew him. He had a love of life,
nature, the mountains and especially his family. He loved his Alpine friends
and the nightly visits in his dairy barn where his friends would gather to
share funny stories and jokes. He always had a tale to tell to brighten your
day. He couldn't keep a secret if his life depended on it. Even in his 99th
year he could recall a joke he had heard when he was a kid. His eyes would
sparkle when he laughed, especially if the story was a little naughty. He was
the most honest person you could ever meet and did not have a deceitful bone
in his body. He once wrote, "God bless our mountains, I do love them". He
clearly left his mark on thousands of quakies where he carved his "GEH" and
his awesome deer figure in Rush and East Fork "Fark". Everyone who knew him
has fond, funny memories of being with him. He will always be remembered with
a mischievous, happy smile. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints and served in many positions. He served a Western States
mission from January 4, 1929 to August 1, 1930. He is survived by his
children, Elaine H. Hoyt, Glendale, UT; Dorothy (Bud) Phillips, Kaysville, UT;
Earl Burke (Carolyn) Heaton, Stanrod, UT; Nanell (Clealon) Mann, Salt Lake
City, UT; Leona (Reid) Merrill, currently serving a LDS mission in Birmingham,
AL; foster son, Rodney (Joann) Jackson, Centerville, UT, Son-in-law, Sherl
Walker, Alpine, UT and his brother Vard (Florence) Heaton, Alton, UT. His
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were too
GREAT in number to count. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, his
daughter, Gladys Walker; granddaughter, Connie Potter; grandson Guy Elmo
Heaton; great grandson, David Elmo Potter, and son-in-law, Dilworth Hoyt. Also
by his four brothers, Merrill, Lloyd, Ross and Gail and two sisters, Irene
Baird and Geneva Pace. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 21,
2005 at 12:00 p.m. in the Mountainville 2nd Ward chapel, 165 North 100 East,
Alpine, Utah. Friends may call from 10:00-11:45 a.m. prior to the service.
Services will also be held in the Alton, LDS Ward Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, February 22, 2005. Burial will be in the Alton City Cemetery under
the direction of Anderson and Sons Mortuary, American Fork. The family extends
a special thanks to Becky Price his favorite nurse from Heritage Home Health
Care. Also, thanks to all of his close friends and family that took the time
to visit him and brighten his days in his later years.

Jackson, Michael James
Michael James Jackson 1979 ~ 2005 Michael James Jackson departed mortality and
returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, February 18, 2005 at his home. The
vacancy in our lives is indescribable as we contemplate Michael's precious
life. Michael was born to Kristin Payne Jackson and David Thomas Jackson on
November 7, 1979. His arrival was eagerly anticipated by his big brothers, who
were delighted by their baby brother. Early in his life, Michael's brothers
designated him "Mikey", a sobriquet he was not thrilled with throughout Jr.
High and High School but a name he later became comfortable with as his
friends commonly used it. Michael was an affectionate baby and he liked to
snuggle with his parents and brothers and he especially enjoyed making "nests"
with his impressive collection of "blankies". Michael's obedience and sense of
service to his mother provided comfort to her and an example to his brothers.
Having lived his life in Holladay, Utah, Michael grew and progressed as he was
educated at Carden Memorial School, Crestview Elementary, Olympus Jr. High,
and Olympus High School from which he graduated in 1998. During his formative
years Michael cultivated his spirituality graduating from seminary with a
four-year diploma. He had fun with his friends during high school as he
associated with them on the swim and water polo teams. Michael's advancement
in Scouting culminated with the Eagle Scout award and a silver and gold palm.
An important part of Michael's Scouting experience was his attendance at the
National Scout Jamboree in 1989, which provided him cherished memories.
Michael valiantly desired to serve his Heavenly Father as he accepted a call
to share the gospel in the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission where his
world-view and sense of compassion were developed as he progressed through the
refiner's fire. Employed by his father as an electronics technician, Michael
liked the challenge of interacting with his customers while solving their
problems. In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by his brothers Mark
(Angie), Ryan, and Tyler; nieces Alexa and Sophia. Preceded in death by his
grandparents Wilford Payne, Edith Payne, and Ruby Glauser Jackson; uncles
Stephen Jackson and James Jackson after whom Michael was named. Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at 12 noon at the Valley
View 11th Ward chapel on 4032 S. 2300 E. Holladay, Utah. An opportunity to
meet with families and friends will be held from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to

Jenkins, Larry
Larry Jenkins "Loving Husband, Dad & Grampy" MIDVALE-William Larry Jenkins
passed away on Feb. 16, 2005 surrounded by his family and friends, after a
short term battle with cancer. He was born October 9, 1938 to Herman and Eva
Croshaw Jenkins. He was a long time resident of Midvale and graduated from
Jordan High School. On April 29, 1961, Larry married Helen Zrno and they
enjoyed 43 years of marriage. He worked at M & M Distributing for 29 years; he
also worked at A J Sheetmetal and Highland Texaco. His hobbies included
playing golf, working in his yard and garden, and looking forward to family
gatherings and barbecues. Larry always said if you don't have family, you
don't have anything. Survivors: wife, Helen; daughter, Julie (Todd) Kemp,
Sandy; son, Michael Jenkins, Cedar City; grandchildren, Tyler Kemp, Tanner
Kemp, Jill Jenkins and Trevor Jenkins; sister, Helen Oliverson (Ray);
brothers, Cleve, Clair (Kay); and Ron (Lorraine); brother-in-law, Clell
Whetman; also many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and a

Dorth P. Rickenbach Jensen 1925 ~ 2005 RICHFIELD/GLENWOOD, UTAH - Dorth Powell
Rickenbach Jensen, 79, of Richfield and Glenwood, Utah, a loving wife, mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend suddenly returned to
her Heavenly Father on February 17, 2005, in Richfield. She was born March 1,
1925, in Glenwood, Utah, to LaVar K. and Lucile Sampson Powell. She married
DeLoy Rickenbach, February 19, 1943, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The marriage was
later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, January 16, 1963. He preceded her in
death January 16, 1973. Dorth married Phil C. Jensen, June 25, 1983 in
Centerfield, Utah. The marriage was performed by Bishop Arlo Jensen. Dorth
worked for many years for the Richfield Clinic. She was active in the BPW
organization, being named Woman of the Year and was also an active member of
the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was an active member of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in the Young Women's organization
and for many years in the Relief Society for the sisters in the Curtis
Residential Home in Glenwood. She enjoyed summers at Fish Lake with Phil and
friends, cooking, traveling, reading, shopping, and especially being with her
family. A gracious lady, she loved helping and serving others. Her sweet
spirit will be missed. She is survived by her husband, Phil of Richfield;
children, Kirk (Heather) Rickenbach, Richfield; Clair (Beth Ann) Rickenbach,

Tyler L. Jensen "Big T" Tyler L. Jensen, age 20, passed away February 17, 2005
at his home in Taylorsville, Utah. He was born August 27, 1984 in Ogden, Utah.
He is the much loved son of Greg Leo and Janice (Wells) Jensen and big brother
to Amy Jean Jensen. Tyler will be greatly missed by his family and his many
friends. We will miss his beautiful blue eyes, his quick smile and loving
hugs. His family and friends all loved him dearly. There was something special
about Tyler. He had a great impact on those who knew him. He loved basketball,
cars, listening to music, camping, writing poetry, going to BYU football games
with Dad and Grandpa, his grandpas' trucks, his many hats, and most of all
spending time with his friends. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints, an Eagle Scout, seminary and Taylorsville High School
graduate. He worked as a floor supervisor at J & M Process Control. Tyler is
survived by his parents, sister, grandparents Clive and Grace Jensen and
Raymond and Jeanne Wells, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. "We will be

Kolleen Wood Holbrook Johnson 1925 ~ 2005 BOUNTIFUL - Kolleen Wood Holbrook
Johnson, 79, our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend, passed
away February 18, 2005 from heart and kidney failure. She was born May 7, 1925
in her parents' home in Farmington, Utah, where she spent her happy youth as
the youngest of six children. Her parents were Edward A. Wood and Millie
Odessa Gallup Wood. Kolleen graduated from Davis High School, Kaysville, Utah.
During high school she was employed at the Naval Supply Depot in Ogden, Utah.
After graduation, she attended the University of Utah. Kolleen married her
high school sweetheart, Keith Moss Holbrook, on August 9, 1943 in the Salt
Lake City LDS Temple. Keith was the son of Ralph Cook Holbrook and Alice May
Moss Holbrook. Keith and Kolleen became the proud parents of four children:
Kathleen Holbrook Hinckley, Salt Lake City; Gregory Keith Holbrook (Barbara),
Bountiful; Kristeen Holbrook Siddoway (Craig), Bountiful; Val Jerome Holbrook
(Linda), Kaysville. Keith preceded her in death in 1961. After Keith's death
Kolleen supported her young family by working as the first Executive Secretary
to the first Administrator of the first hospital in Davis County - South Davis
Community Hospital. She also established and managed the Medical Record
Library for the new hospital and was fully involved in securing the hospital's
accreditation status. Over the years she continued her profession in the
medical field working for many doctors in Fullerton, California and at Salt
Lake Surgical Center. Later, in March of 1967, Kolleen married Victor Lynn
Johnson, son of Lorna Victor M. Johnson bringing his two daughters into the
family: Vicki Johnson Pratt (Robert) and Terri Johnson King. Victor passed
away on March 3, 1990. Kolleen was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was
always supportive and encouraging of her children, finding her greatest joy in
her family. She offered us every opportunity to learn and grow. She loved to
read and continued her learning throughout her life. For many years she was an
active member of the Farmington Junior Literary Club. She was a lovely lady
whose influence touched many lives. Kolleen loved music and was always singing
around our home or in the ward choir. She enjoyed the beauties and inspiration
of the earth, finding her garden to be her best therapy. She also created
beauty in the interior of our home as well as others. Kolleen was a member of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served her Heavenly Father
faithfully as a Primary President, Primary Teacher, Stake Relief Society
Theology Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, Cub Scout Leader, MIA Leader and even
coached a group of young boys learning to play baseball. Kolleen is survived
by her four children, two step-daughters, 17 grandchildren and 17 great
grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Wanda Wood. She was
preceded in death by her two brothers and three sisters; as well as an infant
great granddaughter, Kimball Felton. Funeral services will be held at the
Farmington Rock Chapel with interment in the Farmington City Cemetery. Friends

Kunkel, Raymond Phillip
Raymond Phillip Kunkel 1916 ~ 2005 Raymond Phillip Kunkel, age 88, died
peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 of natural causes. Born and
raised in Salt Lake City to Martha Gehrke and Phillip John Kunkel, he was the
oldest of three sons. Raymond was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. He worked for the Utah State Government for many years as a
Security Officer. He spent much of his time gardening and had a great talent
for producing beautiful plants and flowers. A self-taught pianist, he became
dedicated and able to play the piano at his ward, missionary farewells,
funerals, and public holiday gatherings. Others found great pleasure as he
shared his musical abilities. "Uncle Ray" especially enjoyed his player piano,
his baby grand piano, and his many recordings of classical musicians. He was
preceded in death by his parents and brother, Clifford. Survived by another
brother, Phillip John Kunkel, as well as several cousins, many nieces and
nephews, and dear neighbors and friends who assisted him in later life. A
Visitation will be held at Deseret Memorial Mortuary, 36 E. 700 S., Salt Lake
City, Tuesday, February 22, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. A graveside service will be on
Wed., February 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave

Larsen, Dorothy Durrant
Dorothy Durrant Larsen 1918 ~ 2005 Dorothy Durrant Larsen passed away February
16, 2005 of natural causes. She was born to Lorenzo James and Agnes Prescilla
Lewis Durrant on November 6, 1918, and was the fifth of six children. She
received her Bachelor of Science degree at Brigham Young University with a
minor degree in French. She married Paul W. Larsen, her high school sweetheart
on November 20, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married 55 years
at the time of his death in 1995. She served many years in the Utah Symphony
Guild, The Times Club, as a hostess at the LDS Church Office Building and as
President of Sigma Chi Mothers Club at the University of Utah. She enjoyed
golfing and won several tournaments including the President's Cup at the Salt
Lake Country Club. She is survived by her three sons; John Paul and wife
Sally, Orem, Utah; Robert Lewis and wife Jill, Salt Lake City; Parley Craig,
Salt Lake City; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Madolene Durrant, and Donna
Durrant Sorensen; three brothers, Lorenzo Dean Durrant, Russell Durrant, and
W. Stanford Durrant. She is remembered as a loving mother, an accomplished
pianist, teacher, and a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. She filled her home with beautiful needlepoint. Funeral
services will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at noon at the Parleys Sixth
Ward Chapel, 2350 South 2100 East. Friends may call on Monday evening,
February 21, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South
Highland Drive, and at the Parleys Sixth Ward prior to services from 10:45 to

Lee, Kay Leappes
Kaye Leappes Lee 1/29/26 ~ 2/17/05 Our beloved sister and aunt passed away
peacefully on February 17, 2005 from causes incident to age. Kay was born on
January 29, 1926 to George A. and Mary Leappes. She married James A. Lee on
August 23, 1947. Together they shared a love of the outdoors, fishing and
rescuing many homeless dogs. Kay is survived by her sisters Madelyn Bowden,
Angie Zambos, and Connie Richardson, brother, Drew Leappes, and many nieces
and nephews. We wish to thank all those who participated in providing the
loving and gentle care at Christus St. Josephs Villa. Also, a heartfelt thank
you to her niece Trudy. At Kayes request, a private family service will be
held in her memory.

Malherbe, Hurbert Henri
Hubert Henri Malherbe MA(Cantab) MB. CHB. MD(Rand) 1914 ~ 2005 Dr. Hubert
Malherbe died peacefully at his home in Sandy, Utah on Thursday, 17th February
2005, after a very long neurological illness (Lewy Body Syndrome) which he
bore with dignity and courage. Hubert was born in Pretoria, South Africa, his
father Hedrick Malherbe, a prominent attorney, and his mother Muriel (Juta).
Hubert had three older sisters, Margie, Muriel and Louise, all deceased. His
schooling was at all the best schools, Michaelhouse in Natal, University of
Cape Town where he began his BA when his call to Cambridge University in
England came. He left South Africa and graduated from Gonville and Caius
College with his BA then MA degrees in English Literature. Returning to South
Africa he entered the South African Army and served with the Medical
Laboratory Core in Kenya. On returning to Johannesburg he entered Medical
School at the University of the Witwatersrand graduating with his MB. CHB
equal to the US MD degrees. He completed his residency. on receiving a
Rockerfellow Fellowship, he came to the United States and worked in the
laboratory of doctors, Enders, Weller and Robbins (who later received the
Nobel Prize for their work on the cultivation of Polio Virus). Dr. Malherbe
joined the South Africa Institute for Medical Research at the Poliomyelitis
Research Foundation where he became the Head of the Enteric Virus and Polio
Vaccine Safety Control departments. Over the years he became an international
authority on viruses, published many scientific papers on his findings of new
and unknown viruses, wrote chapters in a number of medical scientific books
and also published a book on Viral Cytopathology. In 1975 Dr. Malherbe
received his high doctorate the MD for his thesis on viruses. In 1967 Dr.
Malherbe was the first to describe the growth of the Marburg Virus in cell
culture (Marburg Virus the precursor of the Ebola Virus) and he and his wife
Margaret presented the findings at the International Marburg Conference held
in Germany in 1969. Dr. Malherbe was known worldwide for his meticulous work.
Dr. Malherbe and Margaret were invited to the United States and came in 1974
where they joined the University of Texas Health Science Center at San
Antonio, Texas. As a Professor he continued his research and teaching. Dr.
Malherbe was a superb teacher greatly admired and respected by his students.
In 1981, the Malherbes moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to explore the field of
rapid viral diagnosis and he retired in 1984. Dr. Malberbe was a scientist,
doctor and philosopher of the highest degree. He was such a gentle,
compassionate man and is deeply mourned by his adoring wife Margaret, son
Pierre, and grandchildren, Benedict and Nicollete in Sydney, Australia. There
will be a Memorial Service for Hubert on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 11:00
a.m. at St. John's Baptist Catholic Church, 300 E. 11800 S. in Draper.

Mecham, John Lewis
John Lewis Mecham "Jack" Jack Mecham met up once again with the love of his
life, his darling wife Mary, on February 8, 2005 after a bout with cancer. He
was born July 3, 1915 to Jonathan and Eva Mecham. Jack lived all of his 89
years in Utah, spending most of that time raising numerous crops, working his
ranch and inventing all kinds of gadgets over the years. He loved hiking any
and every hill around, hunting, caring for his horses and being a great
grandpa to his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He married Mary
Elizabeth LaBard on September 28, 1951. Jack was a farmer/rancher and worked
as a heavy equipment operator for Orem City for 17 years. He and Mary raised
their family in Utah County and then headed to Veyo to live out their years
working the land. Jack was an extremely brilliant man who read every book he
could find on geology and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His
parents, sister Faye and wife Mary all preceded him in death. Jack is survived
by their five children, Karen (Dennis) Willden, Kent, WA; John (Jaye) Mecham,
Midvale, UT; LaDean (Ron) Cox, Las Vegas, NV; Jim (Tracey), Springville, UT;
and Don (Cindy) Mecham, Elk Ridge, UT, and his brother Clyde Mecham. Jack is
also survived by his 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Graveside
services were held February 10, 2005 in Veyo, Utah.

Gerald Fred Olsen 1909 ~ 2005 Gerald Fred Olsen, 95, beloved husband,
grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and brother passed
away Friday Feb. 18, 2005 in Sandy, Utah. Born July 31, 1909 in Provo, Utah to
Ferdinand Henry and Myrl Leigh Woodhead Olsen. He married Constance Edith
Stagg June 19, 1929 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died January 14, 1993 in
Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Bonnie Taylor Nov. 16, 1996 in the Bountiful
LDS Temple. He was a HVAC and sheet metal contractor, owner/operator of A-one
Engineering and Manufacturing Inc., formerly Olsen Heating and Sheet Metal. He
was an original member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 312. He was an
active member of the LDS Church, High Priest and Stake Missionary. Gerald
enjoyed square, folk, and ballroom dancing. He was beloved by all and will be
greatly missed. The family wishes to express special thanks to the Garden
Terrace, Hospice and Alta View Hospital. Surviving are: wife Bonnie of
Midvale, daughter Connie (Wesley) Wootton of Centerville, son Richard B.
(Milene) Olsen of Sandy, 12 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, one

Frank P. Parry 7/1/25 - 2/17/05 Frank P. Parry died peacefully Feb. 17, 2005,
in SLC of natural causes. Born July 1, 1925 to Opal M. Wilson and Orson E.
Moore. Married Doris Withers August 27, 1942; later sealed in the Salt Lake
Temple. Together they had four children; Steve, Frank (Vickie), Earl (Dawn)
and Penny (John). Frank served in World War II in the Navy. He enjoyed hunting
fishing and camping. He was a truck driver for over 50 years and retired from
Boyles Brothers. Frank and Doris have 11 grandchildren, nine
great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Preceded in death by his parents and
his brother, Sonny. Special thanks to all of Frank's caregivers and all of our
dear friends who have been so supportive. Services will be held Tuesday,
February 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Rd.

Jessie B. Peatross 1923 ~ 2005 STRAWBERRY RIVER, DUCHESNE CO. - Jessie Baum
Peatross, age 81, died February 17, 2005 in Roosevelt. Born March 24, 1923 in
Strawberry River to Clarence and Ethel Marie Mezenen Baum. She married William
R. Peatross Sept. 12, 1941 in Heber City and they were later sealed in the
Salt Lake Temple. Bill died March 6, 2004. Jessie served as the Duchesne
County Assessor for 29 1/2 years. She is survived by six children, Loretta
(Arnold) Jenson, Talmage; William Chad (Carma) Peatross, Strawberry River;
Ronald D. (Paulette) Peatross, Roosevelt; Kent R. (Susan) Peatross, Strawberry
River; Sharlyn (Gary) Goold, Delta; Lynette (Bill) Labrum Roosevelt; 29
grandchildren and 71 great grandchildren; two sisters, Lola (Melvin) White and
Elva (George) Wedig, both Roosevelt. Funeral services Monday, Feb. 21, 2005,

Laura Beth Crump Peterson 1924 ~ 2005 BLUFFDALE--Laura Beth Crump Peterson ,
80, our loving mom, grandma, sister, and special friend, passed away
peacefully February 17, 2005. She was born March 16, 1924 in Bluffdale, Utah
to Reynold Wilford and Myrtle Almira Frost Crump. On June 20, 1942 she married
Russell Lloyd Peterson Sr. in Winnemucca, Nevada. Their marriage was
solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 20, 1955. Russell preceded her
in death in 1999. Laura Beth worked for the Salt Lake Telephone Company during
World War II. She was a Charter Member of the Bluffdale Camp of the Daughters
of Utah Pioneers. She was proud of earning her Real Estate Agent license. An
active member of the LDS Church, she served in the Young Women Organization,
as Relief Society President, and as a Visiting Teacher. She worked in the
clothing department of the Jordan River LDS Temple and assisted in the Bride's
Room. Her family marvels at the detailed journal Laura Beth kept, and enjoy
reading it. Laura Beth helped write the Bluffdale City history and was an avid
genealogist and did extraction work. Survivors: children, Linda (Gary)
Nielsen, Michigan; Russell (Leslie) Peterson, Draper; Sharee (Rod) Forman,
Herriman; John Peterson, California; Teresha, Idaho; 18 grandchildren and 18

Smith, Gale George
Gale George Smith 1925 ~ 2005 A shadow was cast over our hearts today as our
beloved husband, father and dear friend passed through the veil peacefully
surrounded by his loving family, February 17, 2005, into the loving arms of
the Savior he knew so well. Gale entered into this life in Salt Lake City with
his twin brother Dale on May 28, 1925, the son of Paul and Verna Smith. After
attending West High School and the University of Utah he charmed Joy Timpson
into traveling with him through this life for 57 years. Gale and Joy were
later solemnized in the SLC Temple and he honored his priesthood as a high
priest. Together they raised their son Brent (Cindy) and daughters Julie
Nielsen (Rob) and Tracy Whitney (Dick). Gale immensely enjoyed the laughter of
his 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom he was very
proud. Gale will be remembered as a custom builder of many fine homes in the
Salt Lake area. He was an avid golfer, winning the 1988 Senior Open in St.
George. However, he will most be remembered by all who knew him for his great
love of people. His gregariousness and bonhomie was legend. Funeral services
will be held on Feb. 22, 2005 at 12:00 p.m. at Monument Park 14th Ward, 2255
S. Wasatch Dr. Family and friends may call at the ward one hour before to meet

Hazel Poulton Smith 1916 ~ 2005 Hazel Poulton Smith, beloved mother,
grandmother, great grandma, and sister, passed away February 17, 2005 while
spending the winter with her son in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hazel was born July 17,
1916 to Carlos W. and Ethel Sutton Poulton. She grew up in Magna, Utah,
graduating from Cyprus High School. Hazel married Dan L. Smith, May 15, 1942
in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The majority of their married lives was spent in
Draper. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. She served in many callings and really loved being the chorister in
Jr. Sunday School. Hazel loved to golf, knit, sew, crochet, cook, raise
flowers and be with family. She never stopped working on her goal: "to make
that big old sandhill look good!" Survivors: sons, Howard P. (Phyllis),
Draper; Michael D. (Kay), Payson; Carl B. (Marilyn), Las Vegas, Nevada; 19
grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Stevenson, Salt Lake
City; Jean (Wayne) Meyers, Boise, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Afton S. Brooks,

Smith, Keith Stoker
Keith Stoker Smith 1914 ~ 2005 SALT LAKE CITY - Keith Stoker Smith, 90,
beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died Friday,
February 18, 2005, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Keith was
born June 25, 1914, in Clearfield, Utah to Leroy Blencowe Smith and Sylvia May
Stoker. He grew up in Clearfield and Sunset and graduated from Davis High
School in 1932, with letters in football and tennis. Keith married his high
school sweetheart, and the love of his life, Marjorie Dickson, in the Logan
Temple on July 11, 1934. They were married for over 70 years. Keith graduated
in 1936 from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, was an
active Sigma Chi, and earned the Alpha Kappa Psi scholarship medallion. During
World War II he operated the Smith family grocery in Sunset, Utah. During this
time he earned his private pilot's license. He loved to fly, and flew the
first all metal aircraft, west of the Mississippi river, an Aircoupe, from St.
Louis to Salt Lake City. He subsequently became Sales Manager of Smith Canning
and Frozen Foods, in Clearfield, Utah. He covered the Intermountain West for
the company and flew the company Beechcraft Bonanzas to cities all over the
west. The family moved to Salt Lake City, in 1956, where he worked in the
mutual fund, insurance and financial planning business. For the next 41 years,
he worked as a manager of Financial Industrial Fund Associates, vice president
of Kelly & Morey, Inc., and insurance agent for AFLAC and other insurance
companies. He loved his work and the many people who were his clients. He
finally retired at age 83. In addition to his work, he was active in many
civic and professional organizations. He served as president of the Kiwanis
Club of Clearfield, the Clearfield Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club
of Sunset-Clinton, and the Associated Service Clubs of Davis County. He also
served as president of the Ogden Retail Grocers Association and as vice
president and treasurer of the Utah Retail Grocers Association. Keith was very
active in the LDS Church throughout his life and served in a number of
leadership positions. He was first counselor in the North Davis Stake
presidency. He was a Sunday school teacher, and then served as the Bishop of
the Yalecrest First Ward from 1960-1972. He served for ten years as a
supervisor of guides on Temple Square. This assignment brought him into
contact with people from around the world which was something he really
enjoyed. He loved studying the scriptures and preparing priesthood lessons for
the high priests. He enjoyed reading church and health books and in his
earlier years he was a pitcher for the Sunset Church softball team and had a
lifelong love of tennis. Keith is survived by: his wife, Marjorie; four
children, Dickson (Susan) Smith of Green Valley, AZ; Linda (Gary) Garff of
Salt Lake City; Douglas (Pat) Smith of Murray; and Sherman (Nancy) of
Cranston, RI; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great- grandchildren; and one
great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother, Howard Blencowe
(Rozella) Smith of Layton. Keith was preceded in death by his parents; his
brother David Smith; and his sisters, Marjorie Cowley, LaRene Holt, and Lou
Jean Wayment. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday February 22,
2005; in the South Cottonwood 4th Ward, 960 East Revere Circle (5550 South).

Smith, Samantha Ann
Samantha Ann Smith 1970 ~ 2005 HEBER CITY - Samantha Ann Smith was born
January 11, 1970, and passed away February 14, 2005. On April 16, 1992, she
was blessed by the hand of the Lord and raised up from a horrible illness.
Soon after, on January 9, 1993, she was wed to Jason Francis Smith. Three
special children followed. Unfortunately, her illness returned. Her family
shared the struggles she went through with addictions, and they share the
sorrow of her passing. We know her burdens are finally lifted. She is survived
by her three sweet children; Simon Asher Jason Smith, Riley Anthon Isaiah
Smith, and Amethyst Eden Jasmine Smith. She is also survived by her husband;
Jason Francis Smith, mother; Elizabeth Norton, father; Kenneth Riley Norton,
and her sister; Susie Norton. The enduring light of Samantha's life was her
love of her children. Her final words to her children were, "I Love You".
Despite all the struggles she went through, she always returned to the love
she had for them. They were her light. Samantha! Be happy and be at peace!
Laugh! And watch over us as we strive to make you proud of who we are and what
we become. Dance! Color the Heavens Pink! Hold the babies! Create! And
remember the sweet love we have for you, my Angel, my friend, and eternal
companion. I LOVE YOU. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 23,
2005 - 11 a.m. in the Heber LDS 1st Ward, 325 East 500 North, Heber City.

Story, Keith
Keith D. Story 1926 ~2005 Keith Darwin Story passed away on Friday, February
18, 2005. He was born on April 13, 1926 in Heiner, Utah to Randle Louis and
Francis Marion Cameron Story. Keith was raised from the age of three by Roy
and Mary Story in Moroni, Utah. Keith attended Moroni High and entered the
service shortly after graduation. He served in the Army Air Force at the end
of World War II. Keith graduated from Snow College and while there met Joyce
Larsen, whom he married on June 24, 1947 in the Manti Temple. Keith graduated
from the University of Utah College of Pharmacy in 1951. He was a pharmacist
in Kamas, Spanish Fork and at the student health center at BYU before opening
Story Pharmacy in Pleasant Grove. Keith served faithfully in the LDS church.
He was in the Elder's Quorum Presidency, High Priest leadership and in several
bishoprics as a clerk. He was a temple worker at the Provo Temple for many
years. His favorite calling was serving as a primary teacher. Keith and Joyce
had eight children. He was a great father. Surviving are his wife Joyce Story
and six children; Scott (Paula) Story of Salina; Sandy (Ron) Channell, Orem;
Randy (Christy) Story, Pleasant Grove; Ron (Michelle) Story, Orem; Tina (Shae)
Porter, Salt Lake City; Shaun (Bonnie) Story, Salt Lake City and a son-in-law
Kayle Kirk, Orem. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren and his sister Darlyne (PJ) Cook of Belle Fourche, South
Dakota. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Jo Kirk and Bertha Sue
Story and one grandson Keith Story Porter. Keith had a special gift of being a
friend. The family would like to express gratitude for the many people who
have served Keith through his illness. He was appreciative of the care given

James Allen Taufagaafa 8/31/1978 ~ 2/17/2005 We will all miss you Jimmy.
Survived by his mother Bonnie Rae Taufagaafa, sister; Donna Marie,

who has been the inspiration of Jimmy's life. Services will be held at

Taylor, Junius Allen
Junius Allen Taylor 1916 ~ 2005 BOUNTIFUL-Our beloved husband, father and
grandfather Junius Allen Taylor, 89, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005 from
complications of a recent stroke. Allen was the first born son of J.A. Taylor
and Eva Johnson Taylor on January 9th 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married
his sweetheart Alta Holbrook in the Salt Lake Temple on September 21, 1939.
They are life time residents of Bountiful. Allen was an amateur radio operator
and built high frequency receivers and transmitter and talked to people all
over the world. He taught wireless communication to the Army Signal draftees.
He later became the Communications division Officer on USS Fanning (Destroyer)
during World War II in the Pacific fleet. He received a B.S. degree in
Business from the University of Utah. (1938) Allen was an active business man
in Bountiful and was a partner of Lakewoods Home Furnishings in Bountiful
where he worked for 41 years. He did marketing, business, advertising and
sales. He taught the Dale Carnegie Course in Salt Lake, and also taught
classes at LDS Business College. He was active in city and community affairs.
He was a member of a Toastmasters Club, Lion's Club, and nominated for city
office twice. He helped form the Bountiful Chamber of Commerce and organize
the Davis County Chamber of Commerce. As a young man he worked on the Union
Pacific Railroad and Continental Bakery. Allen enjoyed being with his family
and taking them boating, water skiing, snow skiing and camping. He was greatly
loved by his family and friends. He was known for his quick wit, good humor,
generosity, and his speaking ability. He was an active LDS member, faithful
home teacher, active in temple work and served as ward Superintendent of
Sunday School. He was ordained a Seventy by Levi Edgar Young and served as one
of the seven presidents of seventies for the stake and served as the senior
president, taught Sunday School, taught the Seventies and High Priest class.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Woodrow, James and
Richard Taylor. He leaves behind his wife Alta Holbrook Taylor and children.
Daughters: Carylyn (Garth) Nelson, Camille T. Nelson (Ardean) Child and Sons:
Mark (Carrie) Taylor, Robert (Janet) Taylor and 19 grandchildren and 15 great
grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 21, 2005 at
11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful 9th Ward Chapel, 585 East Center Street,
Bountiful, Utah. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the
Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Monday morning from

Welch, Donn Victor
Donn Victor Welch "Gone Fishin'" Donn Victor Welch, age 75, passed away
Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005 at his home in South Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born
April 8, 1929 in South Salt Lake City, Utah the son of Henry Welch and Viola
Johnson Welch. He married Joyce LaVon Mines on October 5, 1951 in the Salt
Lake LDS Temple. Married to his sweetie for 53 years. Enjoyed family,
gardening, fishing, knife making, leather work, and was good at everything he
did. Served many callings in the Central Park Ward. He survived by his wife
Joyce L (Mines) Welch; sister, Lynda Lee; one son, Tracy (Heidi) Welch; five
Daughters, Jimaleen (Al) Loveland, LeAnne (Craig) Madsen, Camille Kumor (Cory
Swartz), Vickilyn (Russ) Terry, LaVon Skeem; 24 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gilbert, and
son-in-law, Guy. Funeral services will be held on Friday February 25, 2005,
11:00 a.m., at the Central Park Ward, 304 East 2700 South where friends may
call Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday morning from

Whiting, Jesse Hillard
Jesse Hillard Whiting 1928 ~ 2005 Jesse Hillard Whiting, age 77, of Orem
passed away Friday, February 18, 2005. He was born February 17, 1928 in Manti,
Utah a son of Clarence Othel and Azua Peterson Whiting. He married Carla Fay
Hansen, June 21, 1946 in Salt Lake City and their marriage was later
solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Jess was a member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints. He, along with his wife Carla, served a mission
in St. Michael, AZ (Navajo Indian Reservation). Jess' greatest joy was his
family and he often bragged about his 44 grandchildren and 21 great
grandchildren (five more on the way). He enjoyed gardening and always kept a
beautiful yard. The grandkids will always remember Grandpa's big yard,
wheelbarrow rides, and building snow igloos. In the winter he was out before
the break of dawn shoveling snow for the neighbors. He loved doing things for
others. He learned to work hard at a young age and continued to do so
throughout his life. Jess worked in the roller mills at Geneva Steel for 38
years, and also as Watermaster for the Provo Bench Canal for 40 years. Jess is
survived by five sons and one daughter: Bruce (Mauralie) Whiting, Orem; Kelly
(Connie) Whiting, Rockport; Doug Whiting, Springville; Larry (Lanore) Whiting,
Orem; Andrew (Kendee) Whiting, Springville; and Laura Taylor, Orem. Also
survived by: two brothers, Merlin Dee Whiting (Salt Lake City) and Ben Earl
Whiting (Pleasant Grove); and one sister, Helen Hall (Hurricane). Preceded in
death by: his wife, Carla; a daughter-in-law, Gayle Shelley Whiting; two
grandsons, Bryon Kim Whiting and Spencer Michael Whiting; three brothers,
Clarence Armon Whiting, Shelby Loraine Whiting, and Roger Leigh Whiting; two
sisters, Nelma Hansen and Shirley Whiting. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Lakeview 3rd Ward Chapel,
155 West 1600 South in Orem. Friends may call Tuesday, February 22nd from 6 to
8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home, 495 South State Street in Orem, and
also Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the ward
