Sidney V Badger 1/8/1915 ~ 2/21/2005 Sidney V Badger died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, February 21, 2005 at the age of 90. Great-grandson to LDS Prophet John Taylor, Sidney was born January 8, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mary Swan Badger and Jesse Taylor Badger. He attended the University of Utah prior to serving a LDS mission to South Africa in 1938. Upon his return, he enlisted and served in Naval Intelligence during World War II. He was ultimately commissioned an officer and served in the Amphibious Forces as an executive officer on LSM 374 participating in the invasions of Tinian, Saipan, and Okinawa. After the war, Sid completed his education at the University of California, Berkeley, earning a degree in Accounting. In 1941 he married Frances Young Rogers, his wife of 56 years until her death in 1997. They had three children: Brenda Badger Gilchrist (deceased), formerly of Mesa, Arizona; Dr Rodney S Badger of Provo, Utah; and Dr James T Badger of Atheron, California. Sidney and Frances made their home in the San Francisco Bay Area where he worked as a land developer building apartments and homes. His projects extended to Arizona, New Mexico, and Florida. Sidney was an innovator throughout his career, utilizing progressive construction methods, implementing new techniques in utilizing aquascaping to enhance the grounds, and establishing child care centers at apartment complexes in advance of the industry. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served as a counselor to David B Haight in the Palo Alto Stake Presidency and for many years on the Stake High Council. After the death of his wife Frances he moved to Mesa, Arizona to be near his daughter Brenda and benefit from her care and assistance. Sidney is remembered by his children and grandchildren for his strong faith, keen intellect, sense of humor, and creative thinking. He'll be sorely missed and continue to have our love. Blair, Eva Earl Pearce Eva Earl Pearce Blair 1906 ~ 2005 Our darling mom, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma, Eva Earl Pearce Blair, passed away on February 23, 2005 from causes incident to age. She was 98 years old. Eva was born on May 29, 1906 in Fielding, Utah as one of nine children born to Dewey LeRoy and Mildred Jane Earl. She lived all of her life in Utah and was a member of the LDS Church. She married Benjamin Noble Pearce on October 29, 1927 in Salt Lake City, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with four children- Donna, Glen, Wanda, and Sherry. Benjamin passed away on December 9, 1963. She later married George Blair, who passed away in March 1998. Her daughter, Donna, and son, Glen, also preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters, Wanda (Robert) Behunin and Sherry (Verdi) Smith; sister, Beth Clark; brother, Jack Earl; 14 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren. Burk, Kelly Ralph Kelly Ralph Burk 1957 ~ 2005 Kelly Ralph Burk, 47 of American Fork, UT, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father, Feb. 22, 2005 surrounded by his wife and family. He was born November 4, 1957 to Ralph Burk and Helen Burk in Provo, UT. He was proud of the fact that he became an Eagle Scout at the age of 13. Kelly graduated from American Fork High School in 1976. He graduated from UVSC with a degree in Diesel Mechanics. He was married to Jenny Croft on June 2, 1976. They had two children and later divorced. He married Janie Nordblad, the love of his life, on August 9, 1991 in the Los Angeles Temple and had two more children. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church. Kelly served diligently in his church callings, working extensively in the scouting program and most recently in the Elder's Quorum Presidency. He loved hunting, fishing, and motorcycle racing, but his greatest love of all was the time that he could spend with his family, children and their families. Kelly was caring, compassionate and willing to do anything for anyone. He had a great sense of humor and was a joy to be around. He was an extremely hard worker and was currently employed by Comtrol, Inc. (general contractors in Sandy) as a project manager and estimator. Kelly blessed the lives of so many and, in turn, has been blessed with so many close and dear friends and family members who cherish him and will keep him always close and dear to their hearts. Our lives have been blessed and our days enriched for every moment we were able to share with our beloved Kelly. Butterfield, Wayne Everett Wayne Everett Butterfield 1915 ~ 2005 Wayne Everett Butterfield, age 89, passed away February 24, 2005 in Bountiful, UT. He was born September 3, 1915 in Union, UT to Mary Elizabeth Carlisle and William Butterfield. On May 5, 1938 he married Hanna Mary Nelson in Midvale, UT. They were sweethearts for 61 years. He grew up on a farm, working hard all of his life to support his family. He had his own hay bailing business. Wayne worked on the railroad during World War II, and later as a factory worker and as a maintenance worker for Jordan School district. He could fix anything, cars, houses or a grandchild's bicycle, and was always ready to help his family and friends. He enjoyed camping, fishing and watching the Utah Jazz. He loved to share his life experiences with others. Wayne is survived by his two daughters, Barbara Forbush (Jerry) and Linda Trinnaman (Sid); 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hanna; brother, Joseph Butterfield and sisters, Merle Burner and Wanda Bishop. He was born February 11, 1923 to Edward and Matilda Cable. He married Fern Adams November 30, 1946 in the Manti LDS Temple. He joined the Navy during World War II and spent most of his tour in the South Pacific as a radar technician. He loved The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. He spent three years in Europe as an LDS supervisor of new construction in Epsom, England and Frankfurt, Germany. He is survived by his loving wife, Fern Adams Cable and his children, Gregory and Linda Cable, Glen and Shelley Cable, Dale and Stephanie Cable, Elizabeth and Bradford Harris, Barbara and Aaron Cox; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, also foster daughter, Doreen and Sheldon Lindsey. Davis, Frank LeRoy Frank LeRoy Davis 1934 ~ 2005 Frank LeRoy Davis, 71, of Kanosh, UT, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father, Feb. 20, 2005 surrounded by his wife and family. He was born January 3, 1934 to Nathan William and Alta Leone Wilcox Davis in Salt Lake City, UT. Frank graduated from Granite High School where, as a junior, a girl named Phyllis Leone Bates called him and asked him for a ride to a school skate at S & M Skating Rink. They were married and sealed October 11, 1954 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had seven children and later divorced. Mae C. Jones caught his eye, and his heart, they were married May 2, 1998 in the Salt Lake City Temple and that marriage was later solemnized on May 8, 1999 in the Manti Temple. He was a faithful member of the LDS church. Frank, a hard worker, had several positions, however, the one that he was most proud of was the years he spent as a truck driver for Deseret Transportation and his association with members across the country. Frank loved to dance and served as Ward Dance Director, he loved classical music, old radio shows, fishing, hunting and camping at Pine Valley. She was born July 14, 1926 to Jarvis and Mabel Freeman in Thornton, Idaho. Married Robert Fred Edelman in October 1947 in Salt Lake City. He died November 1983. Verla lived her life in a way that has touched each one of us. She loved to bowl and was on bowling leagues for many years. She loved to cook, do crafts, and took ceramic classes. She worked at Bountiful Drug Store and would often speak of the good times she had there. She made many quilts and baby quilts. She loved her garden and had fun growing herbs. She enjoyed sitting on her deck and watching the birds come to the bird feeders. She painted, decorated and sewed. She loved her cabin at Bear Lake where many fun and happy memories were made. She leaves behind her sister Dorothy LeClercq, brother Deloy Freeman, six sons, Doug Brenneise (Laurie), Robert Edelman (Hope), Rocky Edelman (Coleen), Bradley Edelman (Joanie), Dana Edelman (Patty) and Lance Edelman, 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was born 27 Nov. 1925 to Albert and Caroline Eccles in Salt Lake City. She was Granite High School valedictorian. Earned college tuition on local radio programs and graduated magna cum laude from University of Utah in radio speech. A consummate actress, she appeared in numerous theatre productions in English, French and German, including plays created for her. Best remembered for her leading roles in 'No, No, Nanette" and "Long Day's Journey Into Night". Served two years with the US foreign Service in Beirut, Lebanon, as public affairs broadcast specialist. A member of the Screen Actors Guild, she appeared in major motion pictures such as "Footloose", "Executioner's Song", "The Stand" (Stephen King), "Deliberate Stranger", "Double Jeopardy" and "Legacy", working with Mark Harmon, Eli Wallach, Christine Lahti, Tommy Lee Jones, Dianne Wiest, John Lithgow, Rosanna Arquette, and Kevin Bacon, among others. Served with mission president husband in Berlin and East Germany. Known for her great body of film, broadcast and program work for the LDS Church. Messer, Bernard Arl "Ben" Ben Messer "The Tax Man" WEST JORDAN- Bernard (Ben) Arl Messer passed away at home Feb. 22, 2005 after many health complications. He was born February 29, 1928 in Rexford, KS to Mike Messer and Georgia Pearl McLaughlin. Joined the US Army in 1945 (lied about his age to enlist). Served in the Korean conflict, Occupation forces in Japan and later in nuclear weapons. He retired as CWO3. He ran his own tax business for 39 years. He was an active member of the LDS church. He served an inner city service mission in the Liberty Stake in Salt Lake City. He married Lela Rae Murdock May 23,1953 in Las Vegas, NV. She preceded him in death June 8, 1992. He is survived by their four children, 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren with one more on the way. He remarried and is also survived by Patricia Darlin Evans February 24, 1995 in the Jordan River Temple. He inherited nine stepchildren and 14 more grandchildren. Newman, Richard Richard "Dick" Newman 1938 ~ 2005 Richard "Dick" Newman, 66, passed away Feb. 21, 2005, in Salt Lake. He was born June 3, 1938, to Ell Roy and Fern Newman; married Norma Jensen in 1958. Children: Dan E (Marti), Doug (Kelly), and Darrell. Married Shirley Lamper in 1974. Daughter Wendy (Dave) Riggs. Married Christine Park in 1996. Several step-children, grandchildren, and great-grand children. Preceded in death by father. Survived by mother, sisters Lueen Hatch, Pat Sampson, Jo Ann (Gary) Gillespie; and brother Clarence (Gerry). Richard loved old cars and helped rejuvenate the Jesters Car Club, which he belonged to for the past 10 years. At one time he owned a custom painting body shop. He worked as a truck driver for C.R. England, Milne, and IML and recently retired as an employee of the Salt Lake County Department of Public Works. Richard's dry sense of humor and kind heart will be missed by his many friends, family, and co-workers. Riley, Derall Lee Derall Lee Riley "Smoke" Our much beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, Derall Lee Riley, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, February 22, 2005. He was born April 7, 1943 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to loving parents, Melba Louise Botero Riley and Derall Page Riley. He served in the LDS North German Mission and graduated from Brigham Young University where he met his sweetheart and eternal companion, Kathleen Arnold Riley. They were married June 6, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple. Derall was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the Savior, Jesus Christ. He found solace in reading the scriptures, listening to uplifting music and reading the Ensign magazine. He loved the issues with talks from General Conference and would catalog, on the computer, his favorite quotes. On the day he passed away we found it comforting to find his scriptures and the Ensign open on the dining room table. We rejoice that he is free from his mortal body so that he may again be in service to the Lord. Derall served faithfully in many callings throughout his life including Young Men's president, Stake High Councilor, Temple Worker and Bishop. He loved serving the people of the Bennion 14th Ward and enjoyed the sweet relationship he had with so many of you. We thank you for your tender kindness you have shown to Bishop Riley. Derall worked for many years in the insurance industry where he strived always to be honest and compassionate. He sacrificed much during his career so that his beloved family could stay in Utah close to their extended family. We appreciate his hard work and sacrifice in supporting his family and are thankful that he was able to retire in 2001. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen, who loved him unconditionally. A more perfect wife for our dad couldn't be found. He is also survived by his mother, Melba Riley; brother, Fred (Sharyn) Riley; his children, Michelle (Dan) Pierce, Kristi Miller, Derall (Whitney) Riley, Heather (Derek) Crowther, Sherri (Tyler) Pearson and Holly (Brian) Gunnell; 13 grandchildren whom he adored: Amy, Tyler, Courtney, Derall, Haylie, Grayson, Ashley, Whitney, Talmage, Abby, Jared, Brenna and Page, plus three more due within a month that we're sure he is playing with right now. Sutherland, Marian Recksiek Marian Recksiek Sutherland 1950 ~ 2005 Marian Recksiek Sutherland, 54 of Arnegard, ND passed away Friday, February 18, 2005 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND. She was born November 22, 1950 in Salt Lake City, UT, the daughter of Werner and Helga Gaertner Recksiek. She grew up and attended schools in Salt Lake City, graduating from Olympus High School in 1969. She attended Brigham Young University, and later the Christian-Albrecht University, Kiel, Germany. Marian was married to Richard Sutherland on February 12, 1972 in Salt Lake City. Two children were born to this union: Lisette and Erika. The family moved to Colorado Springs where Marian began her landscaping business. She later divorced, retired and moved to Arnegard where she had made her home since. Marian enjoyed painting pictures, writing, crafts and horticulture. She was always known as "Mother" to all and held the title as "Mother Marian" or "Ma". Marian always put everyone's needs before her own. Marian is survived by her mother, Helga Recksiek of Salt Lake City, UT; two daughters: Lisette Sutherland of Los Angeles, CA and Erika Sutherland of Lemoore, CA; two sisters: Christine (Earl) Prisk of Salt Lake City, UT and Anita (Andy) Mjolhus of Killdeer, ND; nieces and nephews: Emily, Greg, Geoff, Jennifer, Michael and Stephanie and a special great-nephew, Colby "Colbster". Weeks, Virginia Stewart Hair Virginia Stewart Hair Weeks 1921 ~ 2005 Virginia Stewart Hair Weeks, born on Dec 2, l921 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mary Jane Stewart and Thomas C. Hair. Died February 21, 2005 in St. George Utah. Graduated East High, B.A. from the University of Utah and the McCune School of Music and Art in Education, Music, and Speech. Original member of the Desert Theatre. Copy editor at the Chronicle; active in Beta Delta Mu (music), Theta Alpha Phi (Drama), Cwean and Apmin (Fine Arts), Speech Society and Lambda Delta Sigma. She taught private piano and organ lessons for over fifty years. Her music teachers included John Longhurst, Richard P. Condie, and Hugh W. Dougall, author of "Jesus of Nazareth." She was a member of the American Guild of Organists, American Theatre Organ Society, Salt Lake City Ladies'' Literary Club, MacDowell Club, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and the American Association of University Women. She married Joseph Keith Weeks June 15, l949; solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on their 5th wedding anniversary. Active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; served in every musical job, drama director, dance instructor, teacher in Gospel Doctrine, Relief Society and a Visiting Teacher. Resident of Salt Lake until moving to St. George in l985. She performed many organ programs in the St. George Tabernacle as well as taught organ. She was proud of her pioneer ancestry; all eight of her great-grandparents, a great-great-grand-mother, her paternal grandfather came to Salt Lake as pioneers before the railroad. Great-grandfather, Daniel Spencer brought the first company of pioneers to come into the Salt Lake Valley on September 23, 1847 after Brigham Young. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jane Hair, and a daughter Katherine Virginia. She is survived by her husband J. Keith Weeks, son Joseph K (Kathryn) Weeks Jr., daughters Pamela Clark and Rebecca Fuller, brother Thomas Bruce Hair (Jackie) Perth, Australia; as well as 11 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Zwolinski, Margery Williams Margery Williams Zwolinski 1925 ~ 2004 Margery Williams Zwolinski died Feb. 21, 2005 of respiratory failure due to scoliosis in Bryan, Texas. Margery was born May 9, 1925 in Salt Lake City to George Albert and Marguerite Parker Williams. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Utah where she affiliated with Pi Beta Phi sorority. She studied at New York School of Interior Design. Margery returned to Utah and met and married Dr. Bruno J. Zwolinski, Aug. 16, 1952 in Salt Lake City. She continued her career as an interior designer. The family relocated to College Station, TX in 1961, where they now reside. Margery was busy with her designing business and was a member of American Society of Interior Designers. As a volunteer she devoted much time promoting the Opera, Symphony, Arts and other civic projects. She received many honors for her contribution to the community. Memorial service were in Texas. Survived by husband, Dr. Bruno J. Zwolinski of College Station; children, Jan Scott Zwolinski (Jennifer) son David of Sunset, SC; B. Jeffery Zwolinski (Barbara), son Joseph of Lufkin, Tx; Maria Clarissa "Mia" Zwolinski, Bryan Tx; brother, George A. Williams Jr. (Sally), Berkeley, Ca.
