She was born November 24, 1919 to Ture and Inez Stuart Peterson. She was married to Harold Adams who passed away November 5, 1992. She is survived by daughters, Christine and husband, Tom Schommer, Midvale; Robyn Adams, Salt Lake City; two grandchildren, Kevin Hall and Brandon Hall; four great-grand-children, Brooklynne, Alex, Nathan and Natalie; also a dear brother, Art Peterson and wife, Gail, CA; and many wonderful friends and family. Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the Murray City Cemetery, 5600 South and Vine Street. Allen, James DeRay James DeRay Allen "J.D." Heavenly Father called a devoted son, brother, husband, dad, and uncle, James DeRay Allen home on Jan. 7, 2005. He died from injuries sustained in a roll over accident on his way from Butte, MT to surprise his mom in Salt Lake City. Born to James L. Allen Jr. and Raliene B. Allen, May 2, 1974. He grew up in the Taylorsville/Bennion area and graduated from Wasatch High in 1992. J.D. became an instant dad to five children: Adam, Mariah, Matthew, Mandy and Isaac, when he married Christina Boyd on Feb. 25, 2000 and loved being a husband and father. J.D. enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle and four wheeler. He leaves behind his mom, sister Jody (Shane Sweet), nephew Gauge, niece Kayla, devoted wife Chris, and loving children, close family friends, Dan and Debra Nelson and many uncles, aunts and cousins. All loved him dearly. Preceded in death by his grandfather James L. Allen Sr., best friend Chad Snyder, grandfather DeRay Bird, grandmother Nedra Bird, his father James L. Allen Jr., and grandmother Gloria Ray. He was born February 10, 1940 in Salina, Utah to Sherman Anderson and Marva Hansen Anderson Olsen. Sondra was a member of the LDS church. She enjoyed going to Mesquite with her friend Donna. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved spending time with her grandson, Jared. Arnold, Yvonne Marie Yvonne Marie Arnold 1949 ~ 2005 Yvonne Marie Arnold, age 55, returned home January 8, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Yvonne was born May 27, 1949 in Princeton, Indiana to James and Juanita Arnold. She graduated from Pomona High School and Mt. San Antonio Jr. College with a degree in Police Science. Yvonne was a valiant member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved taking her grandkids to church and loved the temple, she also enjoyed family outings. Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Liza Smith and fianc Eddie Nunn; son-in-law, Earl Smith; parents, James and Juanita Arnold; brother, Robert Arnold and grandchildren, Desmond, Autumn, Dominic, Kiosha, Tr and one on the way. Bastian 1924 ~ 2005 Carl was born in Salina, Utah to Afflick and Rosena Bastian on December 22, 1924. He passed away peacefully at home with his family on January 10, 2005. He graduated from North Sevier High School and joined the United States Air Force where he served for three and a half years during World War II. He moved to Salt Lake City and met his future wife Beverly Olsen. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by Harold B. Lee on May 1, 1947. They were loving partners for 57 years. Carl enjoyed electronics and was employed by O'Loughlins Radio Supply until retirement. Carl enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Beverly; children and grandchildren, David (Caressa and Chace), Denise and Bob Mugleston (Bobby, Tennille, Dominae, and Whitney), DeLyn and Bruce Haaga (Bryson, Darchelle, Cherelle, Traven, and Ashlynne); five great-grandchildren Jerynn, Gage, Christopher, Devante', and Tyce; and his brother Arno and LaJuana. Beebe, Barnson Fredrick Barnson Fredrick Beebe 1936 ~ 2005 Barnson Fredrick Beebe passed away Jan. 11, 2005 from Parkinson Disease at the year of 69. He is survived by his wife, Dovell of 47 years; daughters, Georgia Childress, Remona Thompson; son-in-law John Thompson; granddaughters, Elyshea and Breanna Thompson, all of West Valley City. Published in the Deseret News on 1/12/2005. Benson Sr., John V. John V. Benson, Sr. 1935 ~ 2005 On January 8th, 2005 "John V." passed away in Boise, Idaho due to complications with Multiple Myeloma. He was born in Cedar City, Utah in 1935 to his wonderful parents, Philip and Clara Benson. He became a well known basketball player taking his high school team to state for the first time in 21 years. He accepted a full-ride scholarship to BYU and had many great experiences playing ball all over the United States. Once while showing off to Emily "Sue" Ward, who is now his wife of 46 years, he set the record for the most rebounds (26) at BYU against Washington. He was drafted to play pro ball... but he was also drafted into the army for the Korean War. He always believed it was better to serve his country and did so honorably. He received his Bachelors of Science degree and started coaching. After several years of a successful coaching career he went on to start his own business, "The Trophy Hut." His wife and children all participated in the business and after nearly 25 years, it became "Benson's Trophies & Plaques" and is currently owned and operated by one of his sons. He was the sixth of seven children, with three of his sisters, Barbara Burt, Susan Nyman, and Phyllis Peterson still with us today. His parents, sister Neita, and two brothers Nathan and Simon have gone on before us. He had many wonderful memories of growing up in the small town of Parowan, Utah. He loved the people and appreciated the opportunities that were passed on to him by the people of Parowan. Before a recent move to Idaho, John and Sue lived in the town of Park City for over 20 years and made many long lasting relationships. He loved and cared for so many people especially the youth. He loved coaching the basketball team for Park City High and driving his bus full of so many children. He is survived by his wife and their five beautiful adult children Jeannie Neeley, John Jr., Craig, Cathy Myers, Brett, and nine grandchildren. He will always have a special place in his heart for all the many people he knew and the towns of Parowan and Park City. Mildred G. Brown 1945 ~ 2005 Mildred Polly Greenwood Brown, 86, died January 8, 2005. On June 14, 1918, Millie was born to Thomas Abram and Mary Abigail Losee Greenwood in American Fork. She married George Easton Brown, November 27, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings. She attended BYU. Millie and Easton raised Arabian horses. They were active in the Postmaster's Assoc., Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, National Guard, VFW and Utah Arabian Horse Club. She had a positive attitude and provided constant love and support to family and friends. She was a gracious person with a kind word for all. She is survived by a son, George Easton Brown, Jr. (Dianne), American Fork; a daughter, Susan (Kayl) Smith, Alpine Utah; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy (Douglas) Strong, Reno, Nevada. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert (Maxine) Greenwood; David (Glenda) Greenwood; a sister, Lucille (David) Grant; and a daughter-in-law, Pamela Boice Brown. He was born April 11, 1966 in Salt Lake City the son of Sherwin W. and Lola Coleman. Michael married Jennifer Anderson on January 20, 1996 in Ogden, Utah. He served a LDS mission in Japan Tokyo North. Ranald H. Devey 1917 ~ 2005 Ranald Healey Devey, our beloved father and grandfather, passed away January 10, 2005 in Alpine, Utah surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 24, 1917 in Alpine to Earl Marsh and Velma Strong Devey. He married Rose Marie Adamson on May 12, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. After 55 years of marriage, Rose passed away on December 19, 1993. Later he married Mary Louise Pence on September 15, 1995 in the Provo Temple. Ranald was a life-long resident of Alpine and was influential in many civic affairs including Alpine City Council, President of the Irrigation Company, the Alpine Lions Club and served as a volunteer for the Alpine Fire Department for many years. He was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in various positions his entire life. Ranald worked for 35 years in Geneva's Open Hearth. He also maintained a large fruit orchard for most of his life. His many hobbies included traveling, fishing, making jewelry (which he was happy to give to those he loved.) He is survived by his wife Mary Louise Pence Devey, and six children: Richard and Marilyn Devey of Lindon, Dorothy and Ken McClure, Sherry and Gary Boren and Scott and Cindy Marlin all of Alpine, Larry and Kathy Devey of Lehi, and Steve and LaraLee Conran of Half Moon Bay, California. He has 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers: Wallace and Dave Devey, and sisters Afton Burgess and Marilyn Turner. He was preceded in death by his brother Don Devey. He is also survived by The Pence family including Jerry and Gayle, Mike and Renee, Steve and Kristie, Gary and Debbie, and Rick and Kris Pence. He was also proud to be the grandfather to 25 step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren in the Pence family. He was born June 5, 1940 in Ogden, Utah to Briant LeRoy and Kathryn Dallinga Gale. He married Linda Kay February 28, 1959 in Ogden, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple, April 22, 1964. Frank worked for Hercules in West Valley City and volunteered as a reserve deputy sheriff. After retiring he moved with his wife to Redmond and worked for the Central Utah Correctional Facility. He worked with his wife in the Manti LDS Temple as Ordinance Workers . Frank dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and foster children. Gordon, David Raymond David Raymond Gordon 1932 ~ 2004 David Raymond Gordon, 72, of Orem, died January 10, 2005 at his home from the effects of Multiple Myeloma. David was born in Mohrland, Utah, February 21, 1932, to Raymond Clem and Geneive Chapman Tuttle Gordon, and was raised in Emery County. After serving in the Navy for four years, he married Mary Lue Jewkes in the Manti LDS Temple on June 12th, 1956. David earned a degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University while working full time for the SP D&RG railroad. He taught in the Provo School District for 30 years, including spending the summers working for the Outdoor Education Program at Big Springs where he quickly became known as "El Flamo". He was active in many sports including basketball, tennis, and softball, and was feared at the horse-shoe pit. He loved music, oil painting, ham radio and computers, but he especially enjoyed spending time in the outdoors with his family. David was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Bishop. A highlight of his life was serving two missions in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City with his beloved wife. He was preceded in death by his best friend and companion, Mary Lue, and his parents. He is survived by his 10 children: D. Gary was born May 27, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Severin and Amy Prestmann Jensen. He graduated from Skyline High School in 1972 and attended three years at the University of Utah. His quick-wit and great sense of humor will be truly missed. Although his spirit has been reunited with loved ones preceding him in death, Gary will continue to exercise his patience, awaiting final unity with those left behind. Johnson, beloved husband and father, passed away January 8, 2005 doing what he loved most, snowmobiling near the cabin he built. Born Aug. 23, 1962 to Arthur and Evelyn Evans Johnson in Ogden, Utah. Graduated from Ben Lomond Class of 1980. He loved playing baseball and pitched many strikes throughout American Legion, high school and college at CEU. Dave married Carolyn Porter July 20, 1984 in the Jordan River Temple, from this union three beautiful daughters were born: Staci, Janene and Michelle. They were the light of his life. Dave loved his family, their welfare came first. He was a true example of husband, father, friend and neighbor. His love for the outdoors was instilled in his family, teaching them to respect and honor nature. During his spare time from taking care of his family and helping others, he loved to play golf. He thought any golf course was a beautiful site. A self taught master of the woodworking arts, many homes throughout the state display his creations. Dave also enjoyed friendships made while working as a Realtor for Desert Point Builders. She was born February 16, 1917 to Preston and Emma Coates Sudweeks. She married McHenrie "Mack" Miller, April 21, 1939 in Spanish Fork, Utah, the marriage was solemnized in the St. George Temple February 19, 1941. He preceded her in death March 30, 1999. O'Rene was born and raised in Kingston, Utah where she enjoyed the small town life and always had a great love for learning. She was an active member of the LDS Church serving in the Young Women, Primary, Relief Society and was a dedicated Visiting Teacher. She had a great love for her family and home. She stated, "At heart I am a good old home girl. I just enjoy being home and am real content to keep busy around the house. Just to be at home with my family means a lot to me." Mom was always appreciative, taught us dignity in dying and how to endure to the end. Her love and dedication will always be remembered, and she will be deeply missed. Mills, Stella Glada Stella Glada Mills 1913 ~ 2005 On a beautiful Monday morning a gentle caring, loving mother returned home to her Heavenly Father and her beloved family. Her suffering is over. Born May 15, 1913 in Salt Lake City to Axel Henry Olsen and Stella Wardley Olsen. She graduated from East High School. Married Bruce Ralph Mills in Salt Lake City on July 6, 1933. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She had many church callings including Primary, and the Salt Lake Temple as an ordinance worker for 20 years. She is survived by: son, Bruce Ralph Mills Jr. (Evelyn), daughters, Colleen (Gaye) Stevenson (Darwin), S. Jeanne Brown (Kent), seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. Oppermann, Susan Ann Riggs Susan Ann Riggs Oppermann 1931~2005 "Grandma" Our beloved mother and grandmother, Susan Ann Riggs Oppermann, 73, passed away on January 9, 2005. Susan was born on October 20, 1931 in Manila, Utah to William Nathaniel Riggs and Edith Edna Deck. She married Leonard Albert Oppermann in June 1949 in Oklahoma. A simple woman made of unbreakable will and candor, Susan's most prized accomplishment was her family. She felt sincerely blessed to spend time with her two children and three grandchildren and bragged endlessly about their achievements. She took great pride in the growth of her garden. She also was an excellent seamstress, unbeatable at canasta, an avid reader, and would have made an excellent movie critic. Susan is survived by her two children, Karen (Jerry) Judkins, Kevin (Kathy) Oppermann; three grandchildren, Tasha, Cody and Casey; brother, Dean (LaVon) Riggs; sister, Evelyn (Russ) Narramore and Judy Montgomery. He was born on September 6, 1924 in Provo, Utah to John Frederick Powell and Goldie May Davis. He later moved to Sandy then to South Jordan, Utah. He married Melva Jones on November 5, 1942 and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on October 10, 1968. Keith joined the US Navy in 1943 and served our country during World War II. After the war, Keith made a living as an electrician at Kennecott Copper Corporation and farming 40 acres in South Jordan, Utah. He retired after 39 years at Kennecott. Keith was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed swimming, walking, golfing, at Star Valley Ranch and staying physically fit. He is survived by his wife, Melva of St. George, Utah; children, Sherrie (Gail) Rosenkrantz of St. George, Utah; Brent (Kathryn) Powell of South Jordan, Utah; Don (Judy) Powell of St. George, Utah, Janet (Marvin) Smith of Idaho Falls, Idaho; brothers, Gene Powell, Lee Powell, Larry Powell; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grand-children. Published in the Deseret News on 1/12/2005. Roush, Matthew Bruce Matthew Bruce Roush 1963 ~ 2005 Matt Roush, 41, died suddenly January 8, 2005 in Cancun, Mexico of a heart attack. He was born on October 21, 1963 in Ogden, Utah to Robert R. and Jerrilyn K. Roush. Matt was raised in Ogden, graduating from Bonneville High School in 1982. He was the Seminary Student Body President, First Team All-State Defensive End in Football, and the State Sterling Scholar in Science. Matt served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Guatemala. While attending Brigham Young University he was a member of the BYU football team. After his graduation from BYU in 1987 he attended medical school at the University of Utah graduating in 1991. He completed a three year residency in family practice in Phoenix, Arizona. Matt combined his love of sports and medicine by completing a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana in 1995. After his medical training, he took a position as co-director of the fellowship in Muncie. He loved working with all of his patients in his Family and Sports Medicine clinic during the eight years he practiced in Indiana. As much as he loved medicine, his heart was always with his family. He married his wife of 18 years, Tiffany Ann Barlow on August 7, 1986 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with six wonderful children. They resided in Muncie, IN from 1994 until 2003. They moved to Provo, UT one year ago where he has been the Sports Medicine Fellowship Director at Utah Valley Sports Medicine and a Sports Doctor for BYU and UVSC. Matt's other great love was service in his church; including the young men's program, the bishopric, the high council and a home teacher. His favorite church calling was that of a teacher, especially with the young men, where he served in various capacities and was a great leader and example. Matt had a passion for missionary work and loved to talk about the gospel wherever he went. He approached everything he did with his full heart and intensity. He loved people and he loved life. He left his children and all those associated with him a noble legacy. At the time of his death, Matt had brought his family back home to Utah, was serving his beloved BYU and had even watched the Red Sox win the World Series. He is survived by his wife, Tiffany; his six children, Benjamin, 16, Eli, 14, Caleb, 11, Madison, 8, Brittany, 5, and Samuel, 18 months; parents, Robert and Jerrilyn Roush; siblings, Timothy R. Roush (Laura) of Rochester Hills, MI, Kimberly R. Shields (Scott) of Mesa, AZ, and Andrew G. Roush (Jennifer) of Syracuse, UT; Tiffany's parents, Myron and Nancy Barlow; his grandmother, Geraldine K. Runolfson "Pappy" "Pappy" was taken from us suddenly on January 8, 2005 from a massive brain hemorrhage. If you've been in Utah a while, chances are you've met a Runolfson. We're enthusiastic people, about work, family, and unique interests that separate a face from the crowd. If there were a Runolfson mascot, it would be Pappy. Born April 2, 1930 to Andrew Christian Runolfson and Rebecca Anderson in Spanish Fork, Utah. Born March 14, 1908 in the pretty little town of Mayfield, Utah to Niels P. Gregerson and Ella Christianson. Married Gideon W. Sidwell in the Manti Temple on Jan. 6, 1931. He died Jan. 9, 1964. She is survived by daughter Joyce (Don) Hughes and daughter-in-law Glennis Sidwell, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great- great-grandchild, one brother James (Phyllis) Gregerson Gunnison, UT; two sisters: Hazel Wells of Salt Lake City, Utah and Betty Tunbridge of Pennsylvania. Thomas, Mary Rachel Blakemore Mary Rachel Blakemore Thomas 7/3/1924 ~ 1/9/2005 Mary Rachel Blakemore Thomas passed away January 9, 2005 in Salt Lake City. Born July 3, 1924 in Birmingham, England to Sarah Ann Parkes and Samuel Blakemore. Her parents passed away while Mary was a young girl and she was raised by her Aunt Maud Blakemore and William John Dyson. Mary served in the NAFI during World War II in England as a cooking instructor. She met a young soldier named William Ivor Thomas of Llanelli, Wales and they were married September 8, 1945. Mary and Ivor left England after the war to settle in the United States in 1950. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Mary served in several church callings throughout her life. She received much joy as the Primary chorister in her ward. She also served as Young Women president and several Relief Society callings. Her compassion for others was evident in her every day life. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William Ivor Thomas. She is survived by daughter, Susan Mary Thomas (Jim) Owen; son, Jeffrey Ivor (Annette) Thomas; grandchildren, Nichole Marie Owen, Spencer James Owen, and Chelsee Lauren Thomas and Joshua Henry Thomas. Voss "Rudy" Rudolf Heinrich Frederick (Rudy) Voss, 97, passed away January 4, 2005, in Leawood, KS. He was born on June 9, 1907 in Barsinghausen, Germany to Johann Christof Frederich and Wilhelmine Meierhof Voss. While living in Germany he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Marie Louise Margaret (Grete) Dreisbach on August 4, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and they were sealed to each other in the Salt Lake Temple on November 4, 1931. He was an accomplished cabinetmaker. He worked at the Hotel Utah, had his own business remodeling houses and retired from the LDS Hospital where he was Director of Maintenance. Shortly after his oldest son was born he was called to serve a mission in the German Austrian Mission. He later served with his wife in the California San Diego Mission. He was proud of his American citizenship and was grateful to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by Rudolph (Linda) Voss of Upland, CA; Gilbert Voss of Salt Lake City, UT; Dennis (Mary Lee) Voss of Leawood, KS; Janice (Stanley) Schmidt of Rockland, ID; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, brothers Fredrich, Heinrich and Carl, sisters Minna and Alwine.
