Ahleen, Dennis Wayne
Dennis Wayne Ahleen 1944 ~ 2005 BOUNTIFUL - Dennis Wayne Ahleen a loving
husband, father, grandfather, and son, passed away January 22, 2005 after a
long battle with diabetes and heart disease. Dennis was born July 7, 1944 in
Salt Lake City, to Wayne Robert Ahleen and Maxine Hunter Ahleen. On September
27, 1974 he was married for time and all eternity to the love of his life,
Patricia Ann McIntosh. Dennis was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. His greatest mission of being a father was fulfilled
valiantly. He loved golfing, snowmobiling, and racing; but the most enjoyable
times in his life were spent camping, fishing, and playing games with his
family and friends and taking canyon drives with Patty. One of his greatest
joys was spending time with his only grandson, Justin, and he dearly looked
forward to the arrival of his second grandchild this summer. He had many
talents and hobbies that he shared generously. He enjoyed repairing and
restoring cars and small engines and he loved working at Barton Scooters, with
his dear friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Patty; daughters, Amy
(Chris) Hone, Tristin; sons, Daniel and Steven; grandson, Justin; parents,
Wayne and Maxine Ahleen; brother, Kent (Denise); sisters, Sharon (Dennis)
Yearsley, Jan Morris; father and mother-in-law, Larry and Madeline Peterson;
brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews whom he adored.
Preceded in death by his brother, Scott. Dennis will be deeply missed and
always remembered for his fun loving spirit, sense of humor and his generosity
with hugs and kisses. Thank you to Lakeside Dialysis for your years of kind
and gentle care. Funeral services will be held Wed-nesday, January 26, 2005, 2
p.m. at the Bountiful 34th Ward chapel, 540 N. 1200 E. Friends may call
Tuesday, January 25, from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary,
295 North Main, and Wednesday, January 26, from 12:30-1:30p.m. at the church

Backer, Phoebe May Spencer
Phoebe May Spencer Backer 2/03/20 ~ 1/19/05 Our cherished mother, grandmother
and beloved friend, Phoebe May Spencer Backer, just two weeks shy of her 85th
birthday, passed away peacefully at her home due to causes incident to age.
Phoebe was born February 3rd, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the second
oldest of four children born to Samuel Gedge Spencer and Anna Margaret Kriele
Spencer. Phoebe was graduated from West High School where she was involved in
Pep Club and Archery Club. She played her beloved violin as the Concert
Mistress with the school orchestra. Phoebe attended LDS Business College and
the University of Utah while working as a secretary with the SL Board of
Education. In February 1941, she began assisting Martin Backer in establishing
Mrs. Backer's Pastry Shop. One year later Phoebe and Martin were married for
time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on January 12, 1942. They worked
side by side at Mrs. Backer's Pastry Shop for 62 years. Phoebe was a devoted,
unfaltering member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving
in the Primary as a stake president, president and teacher, president and
teacher in Relief Society, Sunday School teacher, MIA president and teacher,
the Ensign Stake Single Adult advisor and hostess at the Church Office
Building. She, together with her husband, served a Swiss Temple mission as
well as a Central City mission. Phoebe was member of the Dinorators Dinner
Club, the Bonneville Knife and Fork, the Four Seasons and Daughters of Utah
Pioneers. She served her community as a voting district chairman, a den mother
in the Cub Scouts and a PTA president. Phoebe and Martin shared a love
beautiful and rare. They loved life and lived every minute of it to the
fullest. Traveling throughout the world, Phoebe embraced many adventures that
might surprise those who didn't know her well. She rode camels and whitewater
rafted. She loved helicopters, horses and hiking. Good books, music and being
a grandmother were her passions. Her eight grandchildren shone bright in her
life. Phoebe is survived by her sons Marty and wife Renee, Salt Lake City;
Russell and wife Kathy, Ogden; Gerry (Bear), Salt Lake City; her daughter
Betsy, Salt Lake City; and the light of her life, her wonderful grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved Martin, her parents, sister June
Young, brothers-in-law Elmer Young, Reinhardt Backer, Henry Backer,
sisters-in-law Gerda Scherioth, Ruby Backer and her precious granddaughter
Tammy Backer. In honor of her life, funeral services will be held on Monday,
Jan. 24, at noon at the Federal Heights Chapel, 1300 E. Fairfax Rd. Friends
may call Sunday, Jan. 23, at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, from 6-8
p.m. and at the ward from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to the services.

Beckstead, Amanuel Lynn
Amanuel Lynn Beckstead "Bud" Bud Beckstead, 81, passed away January 21, 2005,
surrounded by his family. Bud was born in Lark, Utah February 27, 1923 to
Lores and Minnie Beckstead. On August 10, 1946 Bud married his sweetheart,
Betty Kemp, in Cresent, Utah. Bud was a retired member of the Local 57 Pipe
Trade Union. He enjoyed his time and the relationships that he shared in the
pipe fitting profession. After retirement, Bud enjoyed driving his truck
around and having a cold beer with his sons. Bud was a veteran of the United
States Navy, serving his country in World War II. Bud is survived by his wife,
Betty; children, Buddy (Brenda) Beckstead, Shauna (Bill) Morgan, Bret (Shawna)
Beckstead, Bart Beckstead; sister, Chloe McCoy of Grandbury, Texas; six
grandchildren;, and six great-grandchildren. Bud is preceded in death by his
parents; son, Lonny Beckstead; brothers, Darrell, Lores, and Jonny Beckstead.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Goff
Mortuary, 8090 South State Street.

Bergstedt, Matthew Einar
Matthew Einar Bergstedt 1972 ~ 2005 Matthew Einar Bergstedt, 32, passed away
Thursday, January 20, 2005 at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda,
Maryland after three years of fighting malignant melanoma. He was born June
25, 1972 in Mt. View, California, the son of Einar W. and Connie Acord
Bergstedt. Matthew grew up in Sunnyvale and Saratoga, California. He was an
Eagle Scout. He graduated from Saratoga High School in 1990. He earned a
two-year degree from Utah Valley Community College and a Bachelor's degree in
Family and Consumer Studies from the University of Utah. He obtained a
Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Pacific Lutheran University
in Tacoma, Washington. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Norway. Most important in
Matthew's life were his loving wife and four-year-old son Jakob. Matthew was
married to Ingjerd Merete Johansen on July 5, 1997 in the Manti, L.D.S.
temple. Their second son is expected to be born in May. They have lived the
last three years in Louisville, Kentucky where Ingjerd is attending dental
school and Matt practiced as a family counselor. He served in the High Priest
group in his ward. Matt was adventurous and loved to experience all he could
in life. He enjoyed snowboarding, rock climbing and creating pottery. He was a
devoted husband, father, son and brother and he will be sorely missed. We are
thankful to all the doctors, nurses and pharmaceutical companies who were so
helpful in his fight against cancer. We are grateful for the continued support
of all our loved ones. Matthew is survived by his wife Ingjerd and his son
Jakob Waldemar; his parents and two sisters, Lisa Ortega and Stacy (Roland)
Wright; parents-in-law Egil and Gunvor Johansen of Norway; and many loving
aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his
grandparents, Frank and Faun Acord and Waldemar and Ruth Bergstedt. Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at 12:00 noon at the Valley
View Stake Center, 2245 East 3900 South in Salt Lake City. Family and friends
may visit Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South
Highland Drive, or at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Bleckert, Cary Scott
Cary Scott Bleckert 1961 ~ 2005 Our dearest brother, father, friend and son,
Cary Scott Bleckert passed away Friday, January 21, 2005 in Provo, Utah after
a short battle with cancer. Scott was born November 10, 1961 in Salt Lake
City, Utah. He graduated in 1980 from Viewmont High School. He later attended
Southern Utah State University. He served an LDS mission in New York, N.Y.
Survived by his daughter, Jessia Bleckert; mother, Jean Timmerman; father, Max
and step-mother, Diane; brothers and sisters, Jorjean Rhynesburger, Kathy
Holyoak (Kim), Mark (Kim), Jolene Houtz (Russell), Jannice Rojas (Dan), David
(Paula) and adopted sister, Sharon Poulson. Funeral services will be held
Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful 12th Ward Chapel,1475
North 300 West, Bountiful. Friends may call Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00
p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Tuesday

Christensen, Allie Arnold
Allie Arnold Christensen 1914 ~ 2005 Allie Christensen, age 90, passed away on
Friday, January 21, 2005 in Salt Lake City at St. Joseph's Villa. She was born
on January 23, 1914 in Monroe, Utah to Maud Winget Arnold and Charles Garfield
Arnold. She attended Monroe Elementary and South Sevier High School. She
married Fred P. Christensen on September 11, 1933 in Richfield, Utah. They
were endowed on August 22, 1938 in the Manti Temple, and later divorced. She
was active in the LDS church serving in the Primary and Relief Society and as
a temple worker which she dearly loved. She lived in Ephraim, Utah from 1935
to 1962. She then moved to Bountiful, and later to the Eagle Gate Apartments
in Salt Lake City. She made great friends wherever she was. She loved to
travel and had many wonderful trips to different parts of the world. Allie was
a fabulous candy maker and it shows in all her children. The family would like
to express their thanks to Dr. Anne Pendo, St. Joseph's Villa staff and Care
Source Hospice for their kindness and loving care. Allie is survived by her
daughters: Maud C. Thurman (Bob) of Taylorsville and Margaret C. Bott of Salt
Lake City, sons: Mac Christensen (Joan) of Bountiful, Michael Christensen
(Carolynn) of South Jordan, Marcus Christensen (Maria) of Salt Lake City,
sister Beth Burt, 26 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren and seven great
great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, two grandsons: Steven
Christensen, Jeremy Bott, sisters: Ida Isaacson, Maudl Crane, Marie Marx,
brothers: Roy Arnold, and Richard Creamer. Funeral services will be held
Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 12:00 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland
Drive where friends may call from 10:30 to 11:45 prior to the service.

Day, Marjean Anderson
Marjean Anderson Day 1924 ~ 2005 Marjean Day passed away peacefully in her
home by her husband's side on January 16, 2005 at the age of 80. Born June 12,
1924, the 2nd daughter of Colonel Maurice Christian Anderson and Vesta Edwards
Anderson. It had been her wish to be in her home, more than anything else, and
her husband and children did all that they could to honor that wish. Marjean
graduated from South High School in 1941, where she met her sweetheart Bill in
orchestra class. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 27, 1943.
She was an accomplished musician at the violin as well as piano and organ.
Marjean studied with Frank Asper and faculty of the McCune School of Music.
She was an accomplished dancer in ballet and tap. Marjean had a great love for
the arts, and strived to have her children and grand children develop their
own talents. She attended LDS Business College and the University of Utah.
Marjean enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and crocheting. She enjoyed cooking and
entertaining. Marjean loved making clothes, blankets and other items for her
home and family. Every house became a home reflecting her personal touch. She
had a loving, caring, and generous way about herself that will be remembered
by everyone. Marjean faithfully served in various callings in the LDS church
throughout her life including: Sunday School secretary; Central States Mission
primary board; Kentucky Tennessee Mission Relief Society president and
Tahlequah, Oklahoma Ward Relief Society president. She was "Mission Mom" to
over 200 full-time missionaries in the "K.T.M." and made sure that their
mission home experience left each one feeling loved and important. Marjean was
preceded in death by her sister Naoma Townsend. She is survived by her husband
Dr. William H. Day, daughters Karen Day Guier (Rowland Butler), DeEtte Day
Kercher (Jeffery Paul Kercher), son William Maurice Day (Trudi Powell Day),
brother Maurice Edwards Anderson (Joanne Anderson), sister Vesta Anderson
Barker (Reese Barker), 11 grandchildren, and two great granddaughters. The
family wishes to thank Jessie Markart and the wonderful staff of Care Source.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, at the
Highland Park Ward building, 2535 S. Douglas Ave. (parking is best done by
entering on "old 13th East" just south of Parkway Ave. on south bound 1300
East). Friends and family may call Tuesday, January 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Dipo, Helen Betty Spetsas
Helen Betty Spetsas Dipo 1935 ~ 2005 Helen B. Dipo (Spetsas), age 69, passed
away January 15, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Helen was born March 31, 1935
in Salt Lake City, Utah to George D. Spetsas and Pearl Gritton. She married
Dan R. Dipo in the L.D.S. Salt Lake Temple. Mother kept herself busy with
sewing and gardening. She was a wonderful cook, kept herself active by roller
skating and ice skating. She served as Ward Librarian for many years, and
loved doing so. Helen is survived by her daughters, Wendy and Cindy; sons,
Craig and Bart. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Lezlee. Inurnment
will be Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley View Mausoleum, 4335
W. 4100 So.

Drummond, Effie Shroy
Effie Shroy Drummond 6/30/16 ~ 1/19/05 Effie Shroy Drummond was born to
Marshall Morse and Ruth Peterson Morse in Virginia City, Montana and raised by
her stepfather Henry Smith, all deceased. She resided in various Wyoming
cities until moving to Salt Lake City. Effie married Jack Drummond on December
17, 1940 in Sundance, Wyoming. He died on July 19, 1999. She was sealed to him
on June 5, 2001 in the Bountiful Temple. She was beautiful, loving, strong
willed and outspoken. Though so tiny, she was a hard worker all her life,
taking care of others as a daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother with joy
and compassion. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Martindale; Carole's
children, Joyce, Christina, Randall Jr., Jack, Scott, Sam, Angela, and Jenny;
her daughter, Jacqueline Drummond; Jacqueline's children, Kellie, Heidi,
Tiffany, Megan, and Joshua; loving and devoted brother, Harland Smith, and 22
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter Marion Elizabeth,
brothers Harold and Sonny, sister Doreen, two grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. She loved her church, her family, and the Utah Jazz.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2005 at Redwood
Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan. A viewing will be
held on hour prior to services at the mortuary. Interment to follow at Redwood
Memorial Cemetery.

Duncan, Therice Hardy
Therice Hardy Duncan 5/9/1908 ~ 1/19/2005 CENTERVILLE - Our gentle, loving,
compassionate husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Therice Hardy
Duncan passed away Wed., January 19 at the age of 96. Therice Hardy Duncan was
born May 9, 1908 to the family of George Walter and Florence Hardy Duncan. He
has lived in Centerville all of his life and has been active in both church
and community service. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living
resident of Centerville. By trade he was a masonry contractor building many
homes and commercial buildings. Therice was married and sealed to Aretta Moss
in the Salt Lake Temple. They had a wonderful compatible marriage that lasted
for 52 years. They set high standards and were great examples for their two
children. After Aretta's passing, Therice married Viola Booher in the Salt
Lake Temple and has enjoyed a great companionship for 18 years. Therice has
served in many LDS Church capacities including Bishop, member of the High
Council, Sealer at the Salt Lake, Bountiful and London England Temples, and
completed three missions for the LDS Church. He currently was doing extraction
work on his computer at home, and enjoyed attending the Temple weekly. He was
active in the Centerville Lions Club and was elected president twice. For many
years he was President of the Centerville Deuel Creek Irrigation Board of
Trustees and has been a member of the Centerville City Council. He was
preceded in death by his dear wife Aretta Moss, by his loving parents George
Walter and Florence Hardy, and brothers Leroy Hardy, Frank Walter, his wife
Rhea Fox, brother- in- law William Robert Shelley. Therice is survived by his
wife Viola Booher; two children, Lois Abercrombie, of Centerville; and Verl R.
(Diann) Duncan, of Salt Lake City; sisters William Robert (Hattie) Shelley,
Owen (Leone) Stringam and sister-in-law Leroy (Nora) Duncan. He has six
grandchildren and 10 great-grand-children. Funeral services will be held
Monday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Centerville Utah South Stake Center,
270 N. 300 E., Centerville, Utah. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8
p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main Street, Bountiful and Monday
Morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Centerville Utah South Stake Center.

Erhardt, Robert Mark
Robert Mark Erhardt 1958 ~ 2005 Robert Erhardt, loving father, adoring
husband, and best friend to all left our lives unexpectedly on January 17,
2005. Robert was born to John and Ruth Erhardt on August 12, 1958 in Biloxi,
Mississippi. He grew up in Southern California, with periodic stops in exotic
locales, such as Saudi Arabia, along the way. He moved to Utah, where he
graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in geography. His love of
the world took him to many points abroad, including several trips to South
America, India, and the South Pacific. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid
mountain biker, hiker, and loved to camp. Robert is survived by his soul mate,
Robin Erhardt, whom he married on the sands of Hawaii in 2000. He left behind
two beautiful children, Kelli and Robert Jr. He is also survived by his sister
Viktoria Erhardt of Chicago, his brother Thomas Erhardt of Chula Vista, and
his dear mother Ruth Erhardt of Laguna Hills, California. Robert's exceptional
life will be commemorated at a Celebration of Life, to be held at the Point
Restaurant at the Huntsman Cancer Institute on Thursday, February 3. Friends
and family are invited to attend a participatory tribute to Robert at 7:00 pm,
with an open house to follow at 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes
for donations to be made in Robert's memory to the American Cancer Society.

Evans, Shirley Ann
Shirley Ann Evans She Loved Life and Her Family Shirley Ann Evans, age 61,
died January 17, 2005. Born December 3, 1943 in Augusta, Georgia, daughter of
Clarence and Ruby Boyd. Married Dean R. Evans on May 10, 1999 in Salt Lake
City. Shirley had many friends and was loved by everyone she came in contact
with. Survived by her husband Dean; children: Virginia, Donald, James, John
and Theron; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside services
will be held Monday Jan. 24, 2004 at 1:00 in the Murray City Cemetery, 5600 S.
Vine Street. Viewing will be held in the Millcreek 5th Ward, 3805 S. Main
Street from 11-12:30 prior to services. Directors - Independent Funeral
Service. Shirley's family would greatly appreciate any donations to help with
funeral expenses.

Fisher, Calvin Weaver
Calvin Weaver Fisher Together Forever Calvin Weaver Fisher passed away January
22, 2005 from sudden complications following surgery. Cal was born the third
child of Orrin and Isabel Fisher, in the colorful town of Park City June 2,
1922. He graduated from East High School. He attended the University of Utah
and received a masters degree from Mexico City College in Contemporary
Languages. In 1943 he met Alice Empey on a blind date that turned into a
two-year courtship by mail while he served in the Army Air Corp. Following his
release from the Army they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 7,
1946. They spent much of their first year of married life in Mexico City
before returning to Salt Lake. Shortly after this they moved to Billings, MT
where they lived for 19 years until Cal was transferred to Portland, OR, where
they lived for the next four years and then Cal's work brought about a
transfer to Salt Lake City where they lived for the past 33 years. Their
marriage of 58 years has been blessed with five wonderful children, 16
grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Cal was preceded in death by his
wife, Alice; his parents; and sister, Bula Garrett. He is survived by his
children, Linda Engar (Gordon), Mark (Shari), Clifford (Elizabeth) of Salt
Lake City, Ried (Cori) of Honolulu, HI, and Craig of Newport Beach, CA; and
his sister, Lola Lloyd. Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 25, 2005
at the Mt. Olympus 9th Ward building 4635 Lanark Rd. (3300 East) in Salt Lake
City at 12 noon. An hour of open viewing will be held from 10:45-11:45 a.m. at
that location. A viewing will be held at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South
Temple Monday from 6-8 p.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

said hello in passing, we could always hear the smile in your voice as you

Green, Courtney R.
Courtney R. Green 1955 ~ 2005 Our beloved son and father, Courtney Rex Green
died January 21, 2005 of institul pulmonary fibrosis, a sad waste of a
beautiful man. He fought this terrible disease, but in the end it broke him.
He leaves behind his parents, Mark and Lafern Green; daughter, Jessica; and
husband, Shane Goddard; grandchildren, Trista, Jaydin, and Brittany; ex-wife,
Linda, who loved him; and brothers, Brent (Vicki), Monty (Cheryl), Kim, and
Jeffery (Lisa). Courtney was born July 23, 1955. He was always a happy child
and very protective of his mother. He was a long haul truck driver and
traveled to every state in the union, a job he loved until his illness forced
him to quit. It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we bid him
goodbye and hope to see him in the next life whole and strong. The family
wishes to thank the doctors and staff at CareSource for their tender loving
care of our son and father. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 25,

Groves, Marlene Hughes
Marlene Hughes Groves 1931 ~ 2005 Marlene Hughes Groves passed away January
20, 2005 in Sandy, Utah of natural causes. Born April 26, 1931 in Ennis,
Montana to William Raymond Hughes and Georgia Flora Thompson, the third of
seven children. Married Leland David Groves December 12, 1951 in the Salt Lake
LDS Temple. She raised her family of four sons in Bountiful, Utah and loved
being a mother. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. Survived by sons, Marvin Lee, Calvin Kay, and Michael Kent
Groves; and Jennifer Lee Groves, a beloved daughter-in-law who cared for her
so tenderly; a stepson, Larry David Groves; two sisters, Shirley Franz and Ina
Thorne; three brothers, John, Harry, and Bill Hughes. Her husband; and son,
Allen Brent Groves, preceded her in death; also a brother Michael Hughes.
Graveside services will be held Monday, January 24, 2005, 11:30 a.m. in the
Bountiful City Cemetery (2200 South 200 West). Friends may call at the Russon

Hadfield, Kent Taylor
Kent Taylor Hadfield 8/23/1944 ~ 1/17/2005 Kent Taylor Hadfield died suddenly
on January, 17, 2005. He was born August 23, 1944 in Salt Lake City to Betty
J. Hadfield and Lynn W. Hadfield. He is survived by his wife, Debra; son Edgar
Lynn Hadfield; stepdaughter, Becky (Jeff) Mellor; stepsons, Shane (Betty)
Chapman and Troy (Suzie) Chapman; sisters, Mary Ann (Ron), Joy (Jeff), Jeannie
(Don); brothers, Barry (Debbie), Roger (Laura) and grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dixie; daughter, Jessica
"Brandy" and second wife, Louise. Graveside services will be held Monday,
January 24th, 11:00 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Road.
Kent will be lovingly missed by his family and many friends. In lieu of

Hansen, Douglas Lee
Douglas Lee Hansen 1936 ~ 2005 Our loving husband, father, grandfather,
brother, and friend, Douglas Lee Hansen, age 68, passed away at home in
Taylorsville January 21, 2005. Born March 24, 1936 in Richfield, Utah son of
Jess and Genevieve Claudia Larsen Hansen. He married Betty Jean Chatham June
11, 1960 in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. As an active member of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many callings throughout his
life. He loved missionary work and was a stake missionary, sang in the ward
choir, and worked in the Baptistry in the Jordan River Temple. He served his
country in the U.S. Air Force and Army and was stationed in Germany and New
Foundland. Doug is survived by his wife, Betty; son, David D. (Angela) Hansen;
daughter, Antina E. (Daniel) Fisk; four grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann
Cederholm; brothers, Mac Hansen and Pete Hansen. He was preceded in death by
his parents. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the Paradise
Ward, 1555 W. Lovely Road (5095 South). Family and friends may visit Monday,
6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and Tuesday at the
church, 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Taylorsville Cemetery.

Hood, Jack
Jack Hood 1935 ~ 2005 Jack Hood passed away unexpectedly January 18, 2005,
from a heart attack in Midvale, Utah. Jack was born to Zelma M. Duke and
Willie N. Hood February 14, 1935, in Claude, Texas. After high school
graduation in White Deer, Texas, he served in the Army and attended Texas Tech
University. Jack married Sheila Chisholm of Pampa, Texas December 28, 1965.
During their 37 years together they touched many lives as their journey took
them from Texas to New York, South Africa, California, Utah, and Montana.
Drawn by the beauty of Flathead Valley, Jack built their retirement dream home
in Bigfork, Montana. After Sheila's untimely death, Jack married Alice Ransom
of South Beach, Oregon, September 20, 2002. Their mutual love for travel gave
them much happiness and joy. Jack also welcomed a grandchild into his heart
from his wife Alice's previous marriage. Many people feel fortunate to have
been given the opportunity to work with Jack. He generously shared his
engineering skills and analytical mind to inspire achievement beyond the
common level while demonstrating integrity and loyalty. With fairness and
compassion he mentored several to follow in his footsteps. Jack was always a
strong team member and would spend the time to teach and explain how each part
fit into the big picture. His intelligence, work ethic, and easy nature won
him the respect of many in his field. Jack's superb abilities with mechanical
engineering layouts and attention to detail will be greatly missed. Friends
and family will miss Jack's wonderful laugh and smile, heartwarming hug, his
rich singing voice, and kind and generous manner. His adventurous spirit,
quick wit, and warm hospitality deeply affected all who knew him. Always a
gentleman and there to provide a helpful hand to those in need, he touched
many especially those who walked the 12 steps with him. Jack was always
willing to share his experience and knowledge to guide those around him. He
provided many with a reality check whether at home or on the job and he was
able to do this in a unique upbeat manner. Jack was preceded in death by his
mother and father; and by his wife, Sheila. He is survived by his wife, Alice;
brother, Duke, and his wife, Mickey of Abilene, Texas; sisters, Jane Davis of
Austin, Texas, and Pat, and her husband, Will Urbanczyk of White Deer, Texas;
his aunt, Floy Hodge of Winters, Texas; and many cousins, loving nieces,
nephews, and their children.

Howe, Rose Meier
Rose Meier Howe "Our Precious Rose" Our precious wife, mother, and grandma
passed away peacefully at her home in Murray, Utah on January 20, 2005 of
natural causes after a long, courageous battle with M.S. She was born to
Robert Louis and Sadie Peay Meier on June 1, 1936 in Cincinnati. Rose's
greatest joy in life was her family. She will be missed by all who knew and
loved her. She was a faithful member of the LDS church and loved teaching
Primary. Survived by her husband, Lanny M. Howe, and her five children, Laurie
(John) Menatti, Lanny L. (Toni) Howe, Guy (Karen) Howe, Gilbert (Sharon) Howe,
and David (Julie) Howe; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grand-child. The
family would like to thank all who stopped by to see Rose over the years.
Funeral services will be held at the Belview Ward, 6300 S. 300 E., on Monday,
January 24, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call Sunday, January
23rd from 5-7 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St., and one hour

Hudson, Richard G.
Richard G. Hudson "Veteran" Richard passed away at his home in Lake Havasu
City, AZ on January 17, 2005. Born May 8, 1925 in Manitowoc, WI to Cliff and
Julia Carlson Hudson. Married Algie Lukeon September. 2, 1950. Marriage later
solemnized in Salt Lake Temple in 1963. Richard and Algie made their home in
Sandy, UT for 38 years, Richard spent the last six years of his life in Lake
Havasu City, Arizona. Richard was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps
and was a World War II veteran, served in the Pacific Theater and in the
Korean War. He served an LDS Mission in Nauvoo, Illinois. He was an ordinance
worker in South Jordan Temple and Las Vegas Temple. Preceded in death by;
parents; son, Chris. Survived by wife, Algie sons; Gary (Norma Jean), Paul
(Tonya), Bruce, Mike. Grandchildren; Ashley (John), Corey (Melissa), Mike,
Brad (Katie), Randi (Mark), Jamie, Cody, and Morgan. Great-grandchildren; Sage
and Phenyx; brother Lee, two nieces, one nephew, and several friends. Services
will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2005 at Jenkins-Soffe South
Valley, 1007 W. So. Jordan Pkwy (10600 So.) There will be a viewing one hour

Jensen, Gordon William
Gordon William Jensen 1920 ~ 2005 Gordon William Jensen, 84, passed away
January 20, 2005 after a long illness. Gordon was born in Leslie, Idaho on
November 1, 1920 to George A. and Evelyn Allen Jensen. Gordon attended Bingham
High School and participated in the sporting programs. He married his high
school sweetheart and the love of his life, Shirley Anderson on March 20, 1942
in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have shared a wonderful and full life
together for 62 years. During World War II, Gordon served in the U. S. Navy in
the Aleutian Island in Adak, Alaska. Gordon was employed at Kennecott Copper
Mine for 43 years in the electrical department and later as an Electrical
Foreman. He was a member of the Bingham Canyon Volunteer Fire Department until
he moved to Midvale in 1953. Gordon was an avid scouter and served as a
scoutmaster in Copperton, Bingham and Midvale. At one of Gordon's Court of
Honor in Midvale, 19 Eagles Awards were presented. Gordon was awarded the
Silver Beaver award in 1965. As an active member of the LDS Church, Gordon
served in three bishoprics and on the stake high council. Gordon often uttered
the quote, "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." He truly
had done what few of us accomplish. Gordon was, to the end, a self disciplined
man. He loved and served all whom he came into contact. Gordon always had a
smile for all of us no matter how sick he was. Survivors: wife, Shirley,
Midvale; son, Robert (Machelle) Jensen, Midvale; daughter, Anne (Randon)
Draper, Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Taylor, Kenzie Jensen Garcia (Judd),
Mallory and Bailey Jensen, all of Utah; Andrew, Daniel, Parry, Shayla and
Branson Draper, all of Texas; sisters, Thelma Pearce, Maurine Gleason (Jack),
Marilyn Bernardo (Johnny), all Murray. He was preceded in death by his loving
parents; brother, Ensign; sister, Lorna Joy. The family would like to thank
the wonderful doctor, many nurses and aides at the Holladay Healthcare Center
who treated Gordon with love and kindness during his last days. We wish to
also thank the Olympus High Community of Caring (Ashley, McCall, Kirsten and
James), Hearts for Hospice (Christine, Jenny, Lindsay, Bethanay, Stephanie,
Maliece and Karla) and others. Gordon enjoyed his daily hamburger luncheons
with Bob Blake. Funeral services Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in
the Midvale 4th Ward, 7825 South Olympus Street (200 West). Friends may call
at Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State Monday 6-8 p.m. or Tuesday at the church from

Johnson, William "Stan"
William "Stan" Johnson 1929 ~ 2005 William Stanley Johnson, age 75 passed away
peacefully Jan. 19, 2005 in Salt Lake City of pulmonary fibrosis. Stan was
born in Salt Lake City on August 24, 1929 to William Harvey Johnson and Dora
Neff. He grew up in East Millcreek and graduated from Granite High School. He
served an LDS mission to the Northwest States Mission and attended the
University of Utah College of Engineering and School of Architecture. He
married the love of his life, Jill Bunker in the Salt Lake Temple in 1953 and
was a wonderful father to his three children. A licensed Architect, Stan
designed many hospitals, schools, churches and banks in the Mountain West.
Stan and Jill founded Tommy Knockers Jewelry and Gifts in Park City in 1976.
Stan eventually entered a new phase of life, becoming a respected jewelry
designer and craftsman. In 1998, he and Jill retired and spent several
priceless years traveling in their motor home until finally settling in Beaver
Dam, Arizona. Stan is survived by his wife, three children, Kathleen Jensen
(Larry), Eric (Christy) and Clark (Christie), 10 grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren; his brother, Richard Harvey Johnson and sister, Margene
Eicher. His sister, Joyce Lucas, preceded him in death. A viewing will be held
Sunday, Jan. 23, 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 E. 10600 S. Funeral
service will take place Monday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the LDS Chapel at 2530
E. Newcastle Dr. (9000 S) where friends may call from 9:45-10:45. Burial at
Park City Cemetery.

Jones, Julia Ann
Julia Ann Jones 1910 ~ 2005 Julia Ann Prichard Jones, 94, passed away
peacefully while surrounded by members of her family, Thursday, January 20,
2005, at the home of her granddaughter in Nampa, Idaho. Funeral services will
be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24 in the LDS Chapel at 3451 N. Locust Grove Rd
(Locust Grove and Ustick) in Meridian. A viewing will be held at the church
Sunday (today) from 6:30-8 p.m. and Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to
services. Interment will be in the Meridian Cemetery. Arrangements are under
the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Julia was born July 29, 1910, in
Salt Lake City, Utah to Albert Meredith Joseph Prichard and Maude Gallagher.
She grew up in the downtown area of Salt Lake City. Her mother died in the
influenza epidemic of 1918 when Julia was eight years old. She was very close
to her older sisters, Edna Proctor Jensen and Evelyn Brown; and her younger
brother, Albert Prichard. As a teenager she spent her summers in Big
Cottonwood Canyon where she met her eternal companion, Raymond S. Jones. They
were married October 14, 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She went to
business college and learned shorthand and typing. She used these skills all
of her life. She worked as a secretary for a few years and then as Ray went
into business she was his lifelong partner doing the business bookkeeping and
all the things that went into the different business ventures. She was an avid
genealogist and volunteered at the LDS Family History Center and did
genealogical extraction work at her home. Julia and Ray lived in Utah until
moving to Idaho in 1960. Julia loved her family. She was a wonderful wife,
mother, and grandmother. She tended to everyone's needs. She taught compassion
by example. She knew no strangers and was kind to everyone. She lived a long
and selfless life. She will be missed by everyone that knew her. Julia is
survived by her children, four sons, Ronald (Carole) Jones, Boise, Glen
(Bernadine) Jones, Elsinore, Utah, LeRoy (Mary) Jones, Meridian, and Wayne
(Vatia) Jones, Manti, Utah; a daughter, Marilyn (Erick) Wadsworth, Nampa; 27
grandchildren; 86 great-grandchil-dren; and five great great-grandchil-dren.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Raymond, who passed
away four months ago; parents; twin sisters that died at birth; her sisters;
and her brother; a grandson, Glenn Scott; and a great-granddaughter, Heather
Marie Limb.

Kelly, Danna Rae Stanley
Danna Rae Stanley Kelly 1947 ~ 2005 Our angel daughter, mother, grandmother,
and sister, after a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis, returned home
to our Heavenly Father January 22, 2005, with her family at her side, in
Draper, Utah. She has been relieved of her pain. She was born January 25, 1947
in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is the daughter of Joseph and Barbara Stanley;
mother of three, Robert Kelly, Jr., Joseph Kelly, and Kimberlie Dawn Hamner.
She is the grandmother of 12, and more on the way, Robbie, Brianna, Adam,
Travis, Ashley, Shantel, Kassi, Matt Jr., Christina, Kelly, Kimberlie Rae, and
Caitlin Grace. She is also the oldest of 17, Sandra, Richard, Craig, Rob,
Dave, Debbie, Scott, Joe, Tom, Barbie, Jackie, Judy, Terri, Tracy, Bill, and
Tonya. Danna loved the Lord and spent her life faithfully serving Him. She is
a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. With her mother,
they were teachers over the achievement day program, and also had a wonderful
time of calling everyone in her ward to wish them a happy birthday. Her ward
was a great support to her and her family. She loved to attend the temple and
did so regularly. Everybody who came in contact with her felt her strong and
faithful spirit and could not get enough of her. She was our test in this life
to make us realize what life is all about. (Making it back to Heavenly Father
by gaining exaltation, following our Savior's example faithfully to the end.)
It was an honor to have her in our lives and we know that she will always be
with us. She is our angel!! Funeral services will be held Wed-nesday, January
26, 2005, 2 p.m. at the Corner Canyon 3rd Ward, located at 13110 So. 735 E.,
Draper. Family and friends may call the evening before from 6-8 pm at the
church and also and hour prior to services. Interment will follow immediately
at the Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 E. 7800 South.

Kirkland, Layne Seth
Layne Seth Kirkland 1960 ~ 2005 Layne Seth Kirkland, age 44, passed away
January 20, 2005 in West Valley City. He was born November 12, 1960 in Salt
Lake City to George W. and Theda C. Kirkland. Graduated from Viewmont High
School. Married Kristine E. Neilson October 15, 1982 in the Jordan River
Temple. Layne was an Eagle Scout and served an LDS Spanish speaking mission in
Arcadia, CA from 1980 to 1982. He was a commercial sign artist and
manufacturer for 19 years and his work is visible throughout the valley. He
loved his family, ATV riding, spending time in Star Valley, WY and riding his
horses. Layne would do anything for a friend and everyone he met became his
friend. He served in various teaching positions in his ward and influenced
many of the youth with his testimony in his Sunday School classes. He will be
greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Layne is survived by his loving
wife; daughter, Jamie Nicole; sons, Cody Layne and Chad Wayne; parents;
sister, Kristine (Joe) Kelly; brothers, Gregory (Tamra), Steven (Colleen), and
Dale (Anne Marie) Kirkland; and in-laws, Wayne and Ruth Neilson. Preceded in
death by his grandparents. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 25,
2005, 12 noon at the Hunter 2nd Ward, 5200 West 3970 South. The family will
receive friends at a viewing Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Valley View
Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City and from 10:45-11:45 a.m.
prior to the service at the ward. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park. In

Logan, Jaxon Kent
Jaxon Kent Logan "Will Be Missed" Jaxon Kent Logan, 18, of Palmer, Alaska,
died on January 21, 2005 in Provo, Utah, doing one of the things he loved the
most. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 24, 2005, at 6:00 p.m.
at The LDS Chapel, 900 East 85 South, in Provo, Utah. Jaxon will travel home
to Alaska where a funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-Day Saints, 901 East Bogard Road, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January
29, 2005, in Wasilla, Alaska. Family and friends may call one hour prior to
the services. Jaxon touched the lives of many people in his short time on
Earth. He grew up playing hockey and riding snow machines in the winter and
slaying the salmon in the summer. He was attending BYU in Provo as a freshman
and was preparing to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints. Jaxon is survived by his parents: Mike and Darcy Logan;
brother, Dustin; and sisters, Cortney and Chauri; sister-in-law, Melinda;
brother-in-law, Jeff Claeson; grandparents, Rodney and Katherine Logan, Sixto
and Beverly Barrera, Rolland and Emily Grover, and Patricia Lyman; 32 aunts
and uncles, over 60 cousins; and best friends Jake and Tylan.

Celia Bryson Gillespie Ludlow "Loving Wife, Mom and Grandma" Celia passed away
peacefully January 17, 2005 in Salt Lake City, UT. She was born November 21,
1916 to Walter and Clara Holbrook Bryson in Bountiful, UT. Married Albert T.
Ludlow in April 1977. Survived by her husband, Albert; children, Bart
Gillespie, Douglas Gillespie, and Joan Walker. Preceded in death by her first
husband, Scott Gillespie; sister, Thelma; and brothers, Delbert and Keith. A
celebration for Celia was held on Thursday, January 20th at Jenkins-Soffe
Mortuary. Burial followed at Salt Lake City Cemetery.

McMillan, Nelma Stewart
Nelma Stewart McMillan 1916 ~ 2005 Nelma Stewart McMillan, 88, passed away
Thursday, January 20, 2005 at Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah. Nelma was born
September 26, 1916 in Naf, Idaho to Olda Anderson and Irvin Wall Stewart.
Nelma went to school in Payson, Utah and later the family moved to San
Bernadino, California. Nelma married Newel Cook McMil-lan July 25, 1943 in the
Salt Lake LDS Temple. Nelma and Newel adopted two daughters from Greece, one
son from Utah and one from California. She loved to sew, knit and crochet.
Nelma enjoyed cooking; she did a lot of entertaining for her husband's work
and her church. She was very active in the Relief Society and was always
baking bread and giving it to the neighbors. Nelma enjoyed giving tours of the
Beehive House in Salt Lake. Her main interests in life were staying at home,
taking care of her family, and her church responsibilities. Nelma had a great
sense of humor and was always a very elegant lady. Everyone who came in
contact with her loved her, as she did them. She was a wonderful wife and
mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Newel; one sister, Carrie
Seal; and two brothers, John Stewart, and Bob Stewart. She is survived by one
brother, Bill Stewart of Oregon; and one sister, Glenna Fisher of California;
and four children, Dee (Annette) McMillan of Roy, Scott McMillan of Ogden,
Stacey (Randy) West of Farmington, and Teresa (Clint) Hovey of Millville; 14
grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank
everyone at Sunshine Terrace for their loving care of Nelma. Funeral services
will be held Wed-nesday, January 26, 2005, 11 a.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836

January 21, 2005 in Bountiful, Utah. Born October 29, 1909, in Chicago,
Illinois, to William Allen and Alma Knecht Sexton. Married Arthur Truman
Morley September 10, 1931, in Santa Barbara, California; marriage solemnized
June 15, 1937, in the Manti LDS Temple. Her husband preceded her in death
February 16, 1989. She was an active member of the LDS Church. She is survived
by daughters and son, Mrs. Stanley R. (Nancy) Sharp, Mrs. G. Richard (Judith)
Judd, and Mrs. James D. (Susan) Rasmussen, all of Utah, Arthur T. (Jeanie)
Morley, Jr., California; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren;, three
great great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Victor R.

2005 in Bountiful, Utah. He was born to Denton Oscar and Eunice Morris on June
7, 1923 in Bogalusa, Louisiana. He joined the Navy in 1941 and served 21
years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He recently received the two air
medals he earned for combat flights made 60 years ago during World War II.
Donald enjoyed life to the fullest, particularly activities in the outdoors
where you could often find him fishing, boating, hiking and picnicking with
friends and family. Donald also served as an adult leader for many years with
the Boy Scouts of America. His favorite indoor activity was bowling where he
never scored a 300 game, but got close several times. A true master of
charcoal cooking, when he wasn't busy with other events, you could find him in
his backyard preparing a variety of tasty meals. He also enjoyed solving word
jumbles and crossword puzzles. Donald is survived by his wife of 59 years,
Dorothy Irene, and two sons, Donald Edward (Mary) of Reston, VA, and William
Denton (Jeanne) of Riverside, CA.; three grandchildren, Tina Anderson (Dave),
Edward (Amanda), and Christopher Denton (Elizabeth); and five
great-grandchildren, Katy, Luke, Vaughn, Jacob and Nathan. He is also survived
by two sisters, Willie Mae Wascom and Annette Garrick (Wyman) both of
Bogalusa, LA. Graveside services for family and friends, with full military
honors, will be held at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 17111 South Camp
Williams Road, on February 2, 2005 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations

Mortenson, Adelaide
Adelaide Mortenson 1923 ~ 2005 BOUNTIFUL- Adelaide Matthews Mortenson, 81, our
beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and best friend,
returned home January 20th to her Heavenly Father and her beloved Clare after
a long absence of 31 years. She was born in Ashton (Green Timber), Idaho,
April 28, 1923, to Byron Henry and Hazel Branson Matthews. She was the fourth
of seven children. Adelaide met and later married the only love of her life,
Clarence Finch Mortenson, August 9, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their
marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in February 1971.
Adelaide loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was a lifelong member of The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Adelaide was preceded in death by her
husband, Clarence, her parents, brothers, James, Jack, and Jeff Matthews, also
a sister, Inez Karren. She is survived by her daughter, Claire Lynn (James)
Taylor, Centerville; a son, Steven Scott (Patti) Mortenson, West Bountiful;
sisters, Elynn (Bill) Kirkham, Blackfoot, ID; Fay Harrigfeld, Ashton, ID;
sister-in-law, Elizabeth Mortenson, Santa Rosa, CA; brother-in-law, Al
Mortenson, Pocatello, ID; six grandchildren, Bryan (Sara) Christensen, Brad
(Megan) Christensen, Kelly (Jason) Van Orden, Steven (Whitney) Mortenson, Ryan
Mortenson and Michael Mortenson, currently serving a mission in the Philippine
Islands; seven great-grand-children, Joshua, Matthew and Joseph Christensen,
Hailey Elizabeth and Tanner Christensen, Adam and Ashley Van Orden; numerous
nieces and nephews and special neighbor granddaughter, Megan Ratz. Funeral
services will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2005, 11:00 a.m., at the Bountiful

Nalder, Grace Henriksen
Grace Henriksen Nalder 1922 ~ 2005 Grace Henriksen Nalder, our beloved wife,
mother, and grandmother passed away January 18, 2005 peacefully at home. She
lived 82 years, loving and inspiring those around her. She was born June 18,
1922 to Enoch and Anna Henriksen in Salt Lake City. She graduated from Granite
High School with honors and attended BYU. She married the love of her life, H.
William Nalder, Jr. (H. Junior Nalder) February 11, 1944 in the Salt Lake
Temple and they had their wedding reception during the year's worst snowstorm.
Grace was richly blessed with talents in speaking, writing, and teaching. Her
daughters grew up surrounded by the fruits of her church service. She was
stake YWMIA counselor twice from the Monument Park 2nd Ward and produced the
best Promised Valley production any of us have seen. She was on the Relief
Society Stake Board in Scottsdale, Arizona and taught spiritual living lessons
in Relief Society for 11 years. She was also an expert mother. Our parents
believed in loving their children unconditionally. Grace is survived by her
husband, Bill Nalder; and four children, Sherry (Rasmussen), Susan (Michael)
Vermillion, Marci Olsen, Robyn (Todd) Reese; eight grandchildren, Eric,
Stephen, Laura, Rachael, Susan, Sarah, Dallin, and Parker. She is also
survived by her sister, Gladys Noyce. Funeral services will be held 12 noon
Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at the Foothill 6th Ward, 2215 East Roosevelt in
Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held at the church from 6-8 p.m. Monday,
January 24 and one hour prior to services Tuesday, where friends and family

Ohlson, Lester Marvin
Lester Marvin Ohlson "Les" 1912 ~ 2005 KAYSVILLE - Lester Marvin Ohlson, age
92, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2005 at Apple Tree Assisted Living
Center of causes incident to age. Dad was born March 6, 1912 in Ogden, Utah a
son of Hyrum Ohlson and Alice Biddle Ohlson. He was the youngest of 10
children (six boys and four girls). Dad married Ethel Lucille Jordan on March
22, 1933 in Morgan, Utah. At the time of his sweetheart's passing in 2002 they
had celebrated 69 years of marriage. Dad was educated in the Ogden City School
system. When he was 13 his father died making it necessary for him to work and
support his widowed mother. He started as a messenger boy for Western Union
Telegraph Company. He retired after 44 years of service. He loved his on-site
assignments reporting sporting events and political conventions. Highlights
included covering Jack Dempsey and Gene Fullmer boxing events, NCAA
basketball, and a special assignment in Washington, D.C. for a secret defense
alert program. After retirement from Western Union dad worked part-time
operating a printing press. He loved this work and continued until his family
finally made him retire at age 75. Dad loved spending time with his family and
one of the highlights of his life was to be with them on a golf course. He was
known as "down the middle Ohlson" as he never played from the "rough." Thanks
to the entire crew at Davis Park Golf course where dad was treated as royalty.
His last round of golf was January 4, 2005 with his son, Keith. Golf was his
passion which he passed on to many of his grandchildren and
great-grand-children. He played many rounds as a four generation family group.
Dad was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dad is
survived by one son, Keith (Marilyn) Ohlson, Coalville; two daughters, Karen
(Doyle) Huber, Vernal and Adele (Ron) Clay, Kaysville; and one brother, Frank
Ohlson of California. He leaves a posterity of 14 grandchildren and 33
great-grandchildren. Dad was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter,
Kathleen. We love you dad and grandpa and we'll do our best to "stay out of
the rough and keep it straight down the middle." Funeral services will be held
Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400
North Main. Friends and family may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday
from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery. The

Otteson, Bruce "Kevin"
Bruce "Kevin" Otteson 1958 ~ 2005 Bruce "Kevin" Otteson, age 46, died on
January 20, 2005 in Midvale, Utah. He was born on June 14, 1958, in Downey, CA
to Shirley and Dave Otteson. Kevin was a kind and caring person who loved the
outdoors and the beauty of nature. He was a man of many talents. He was a
specialist in gabions and a heavy equipment operator. He also worked with
animals as a pet groomer. Kevin had many hobbies including making jewelry,
computer whiz, coin collecting and was known to many as "The Music Man"
because of his large collection of various types of music which he loved to
share with others. Kevin is survived by his mother, Shirley "Jackie" Smith;
daughter, Michelle Beglanger; granddaughter, Rainey Beglanger; three brothers,
Dennis Jensen, Guy Jensen, Kirk Otteson; four sisters, Vickie Hoag, Rita Lyn
Kay, Marilyn Stephenson, Lyn Nae Evans. He was loved by all and will be
greatly missed. Graveside services will be held at Spanish Fork City Cemetery
on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at 11:30 am.

Petersen, Lester Alma
Lester Alma Petersen 1919 ~ 2005 Lester Alma Petersen, beloved father,
grandfather, and friend passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2005 in Bakersfield,
California at the age of 85. He resided in Fresno, California for nearly 60
years prior to moving to Bakersfield in 2001. Born June 19, 1919 in Salt Air,
Utah to Alma Dabelstein and Emma Pauline Blank Petersen, "Les" grew up in Salt
Lake City, graduating from West High School in 1936. Upon his return in 1942
as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the
California Mission, he quickly enlisted in the Army Air Corps to serve his
country during World War II. His last assignment was at Hammer Field Air Base
in Fresno, where he liked the area so much that he stayed and raised his
family there. He married his sweetheart, Ruth May MacKay September 10, 1943 in
the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They spent 58 years together until her passing
October 29, 2001. Les was employed with White King Soap Company for 26 years,
calling on grocery stores up and down the San Joaquin Valley. After retiring
from White King in 1974, he continued as a sales representative for various
companies, retiring again in 1989 from All Pure Chemical Company. Les lived an
active and involved life, always willing to lend a hand. He held numerous
church leadership positions, including a service mission among the Hmongs in
Fresno. Scouting was also an important part of his life and he served several
years in the Sequoia Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Les enjoyed the
outdoors and especially loved camping in Yosemite with family and friends. He
will always be remembered for his fun-loving nature. Les is survived by his
four children, Shirley (Sheldon) Larkin, Springville, UT, Craig (Janine)
Petersen, Provo, UT, Randy (Becca) Petersen, Bakersfield, CA, Brian (Carol)
Petersen, Bountiful, UT; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother,
Al (Colleen) Petersen, Sandy, UT; and sisters, Clara Scheuller, San Lorenzo,
CA, Lucy (Hap) Scheuller, Carson City, NV. Funeral services will be held 10
a.m. Tuesday, January 25, at the Fresno (LDS) Stake Center, 5685 N. Cedar Ave,
Fresno, CA. Interment will be at the Clovis Cemetery immediately following.
Visitation will be Monday evening 6-9 p.m. at the church and an hour prior to
the services.

Ramirez, Kerri Lynn Glover
Kerri Lynn Glover Ramirez 1960 ~ 2005 Our loving wife, mother, daughter,
sister, and friend, Kerri Lynn Glover Ramirez, age 44, suddenly and
unexpectedly left this earthly existence January 20, 2005 to return to her
Heavenly Father and to be reunited with her sister, Gaylene Glover Bringard,
who preceded her in death in 2000. Kerri was born May 25, 1960 in Salt Lake
City, Utah, the oldest of five children born to Charles Leo and Virginia Lynn
Ashford Glover. Kerri graduated from Skyline High School in 1978 where she
sang with the Senior Choir and was also their accompanist. She was an active
member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and from 1983-1984
served a mission to Maracaibo, Venezuela. On March 25, 1997, Kerri married
Fermin Ramirez Hernandez in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Music played an
important role in her life and her talents brought much joy and happiness to
those around her. Her greatest pleasure came from being a devoted wife and
mother. She loved her husband and children and spent her time in caring for
their every need. Kerri is survived by her husband, Fermin; sons, Jose Daniel
Cayama, Joshua Fermin Ramirez, and Jordan Felipe Ramirez; her parents;
brother, Kent (Shauna) Glover; sisters, Judy Ann Glover and Jennifer Lee
(Alfred) Anderson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the
Cobble Creek 5th Ward, 5156 West Clay Hollow Drive (7860 South). Family and

Samuelson, John Alfred
John Alfred Samuelson 1915 ~ 2005 John Alfred Samuelson, 89, beloved husband,
father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died on January 19, 2005. John was
born Aug. 26, 1915 in Circleville, UT, the son of John Victor Samuelson and
Sarah Ellen Lambson. He lived in Sandy, Crescent and Salem, Utah. He was an
Eagle Scout and Salutatorian of Jordan High School graduating class. He was a
missionary in the Central States Mission. He received both bachelor and master
degrees from the U of U in botany. On Nov. 21, 1941 he married Beth
Meyerhoffer Nielsen in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 63 years
and had four children. During World War II he served as a Captain in the
Coastal Artillery in the Pacific. Following the war he taught school and was
the first foot postman in Sandy. He joined Morton Salt Company in 1953 as a
chemist until he retired in 1980. Following retirement he did volunteer work
for the LDS Church categorizing artifacts. His hobbies included rock hound,
ham radio operator, building and flying model airplanes, oil painting, and
fishing. He is survived by his wife, Beth Samuelson, Payson, UT; daughter,
Jacque Lawson (Carl), Parker, CO; daughter RoLayne Heninger (Ken), Vancouver,
WA; son, David Samuelson (Mary), Payson, UT; daughter, Karen Ricks (Russell),
Salem, UT; sister, Emma Randolph (Walt), Spokane, WA; 28 grandchildren and 31
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 24th at 11:00
a.m. at the Crescent 30th Ward Chapel, 89 E. 11000 S., Sandy, UT. Friends may
call Sunday evening at the Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Midvale, UT from 6-8

Sarris Sr., Pete L.
Pete L. Sarris Sr. 1922 ~ 2005 Pete L. Sarris Sr., 82, passed away January 16,
2005 in Bountiful, Utah. He was born April 1, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah a
son of Louis and Cannella Karafotis Sarris. He was reared in Layton. Pete
served in the US Army 37th Combat Engineer Battalion in World War II. He was
awarded the Purple Heart Award. He married Marie Callis, they later divorced.
Pete married Patricia Connie Chappatt May 3, 1962. Pete was a manager at
Cowboy Oil and retired from Gibbons and Read in 1978. Throughout his life he
was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. Pete is survived by his wife,
Patricia Connie; son, Lou (Ann) Sarris of Salt Lake City; one brother, William
Sarris of Rancho Mirage, CA; two grandchildren, Pete Sarris Jr. and Nichole
Garner. Proceeded in death by his daughter, Karen Enniss; granddaughter
Rebecca Enniss, one brother Dean Sarris and one sister Maxine Killian. Funeral
services will be held 11 a.m. Monday January 24, 2005 at Lindquist's Bountiful

Schulz, Beverly
Beverly Schulz 1949 ~ 2005 Beverly Ellen Anderson Schulz passed away
peacefully at her home after a valiant battle with breast cancer Saturday,
Jan. 22, 2005. Beverly was born in Salt Lake City Dec. 1, 1949 to Don Ross and
Ellen Aloyce Anderson who preceded her in death. Beverly was a loving and
caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her passing will leave an empty
spot in lives of all of those close to her. Beverly was hard working and
diligent in all her endeavors. Beverly worked in the Payroll Department,
Tooele Army Depot until recently and enjoyed many good friends there. Active
in the LDS Church, her enthusiasm in the various youth programs touched many
young hearts. Beverly was married to Michael Schulz. Their marriage was later
solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Beverly was most happy when she was
shuttling her two talented daughters to ballet and voice lessons. Beverly is
survived by husband, Mike Schulz; daughters, Leona and Catherine Schulz, all
of Grantsville; siblings, Mike (Jeannie) Anderson, Patti (Bob) Halladay, Doug
(Valerie) Anderson, all of Grantsville; uncle, Lowell Watson, Tooele, Utah.

Tempest, Stephen Dixon
Stephen Dixon Tempest 1957 ~ 2005 Stephen Dixon Tempest passed on in the
comfort of his home and family January 21, 2005, from Non-Hodg-kin's lymphoma.
Born December 24, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Diane Dixon Tempest and
John Henry Tempest, III, Steve grew up in the foothills of the Wasatch where
he loved to hike and watch deer. His love of nature translated into an empathy
toward others. He attended Highland High School where he was student body
president in 1976. Steve later served in the Florida-Tallahassee mission for
the LDS Church. When he returned home, he married Ann Peterson in the Salt
Lake Temple December 27, 1979. He graduated from the University of Utah with a
degree in finance. For 25 years, Steve Tempest was general superintendent for
The Tempest Company and was currently president of Tempest Enterprises, Inc.
He loved the intellectual challenge and excitement of pipeline construction,
the freedom of working outdoors, and the tangible evidence of what good men
can accomplish together. Steve believed in the power of community and served
on the Board of Directors of the Associated General Contractors of Utah and
the University of Utah Alumni Board. With his diagnosis of lymphoma, Steve
chose to help others with cancer, delivering last summer's "Survivors on the
Summit" talk at Snowbird benefiting the Cancer Wellness Center. He spoke of
living simply in the present because, in truth, "we are all terminal." Steve's
life was one of quiet service, helping people, be it putting in a sprinkler
for a neighbor, or creating a village waterline in the high plateaus of
Bolivia. His wit, fierce integrity and mental toughness, passion for
adventure, and his devotion to Ann and his daughters define the power of this
humble man. He lived well. His influence resides in our changed hearts.
Preceded in death by his mother; he is survived by his wife, Ann; and their
daughters, Callie, and her husband Andrew Jones, Sara Teewinot, and Diane
Kathryn. Honoring his life are his father, John; sister, Terry, and her
husband, Brooke Williams; brother, Dan, and his wife, Thalo Porter; and
brother, Hank. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Gertrude Thody
Peterson. A viewing will be held January 24, from 6-8:30 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn,
3401 Highland Drive. Funeral services will be January 25, 12 noon at the
Valley View Stake Center, 2245 East 3900 South. No viewing prior to the
service. The family wishes to thank Dr. Bill Nibley and his staff; Dr. Nelson
Wright; and Dr. Steve Lordon, all neighbors, along with IHC Hospice, who
served Steve well. Steve had a dream of creating a labyrinth for cancer
patients, their families and caregivers, so they could walk in times of sorrow
and solitude as a personal meditation. This project is in the works as a gift

Thomson, Kay Edward
Kay Edward Thomson 1959 ~ 2005 EPHRAIM, UTAH - Kay Edward Thomson, 45, of
Ephraim, Utah, passed away January 21, 2005, in Provo, Utah. He was born
August 31, 1959, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, to Edward "Ted" Lincoln and Ethel Kay
Taylor Thomson. He married MaryAnn Joy Reece, June 25, 1981, in the Salt Lake
LDS Temple. Kay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints. He fulfilled a mission to Sacramento, California and has served in the
Elders Quorum, Young Men's, and Sunday School Presidency, as Ward Clerk, and
as Stake Financial Clerk. Kay was a great dad and loved to watch his children
play sports. He was a hard worker and provided well for his family and loved
his children with all his heart. Kay has owned the Malt Shop in Ephraim for
the past 24 years. He was jack of all trades and was always willing to help
others. He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn, Ephraim; children, Nathan Kay
(Felicia) Thomson, Ephraim; Justin William Thomson, serving in the Texas San
Antonia Mission; Jason Edward Thomson; Tyler Andrew Thomson; Aubree Joy
Thomson; Danielle Marie Thomson; Easton Jacob Thomson; parents, Ted and Ethel
Kay Taylor, Ephraim; sister, Marilyn (Stanley) Ballard, Payson; grandfather,

Turner, Keith Elvin
Keith Elvin Turner 6/30/1949 ~ 1/21/2005 Beloved husband, father, brother, and
son, Keith Elvin Turner, passed away peacefully Friday, January 21, 2005
surrounded by his adoring family. Keith was born June 30, 1949 in Salt Lake
City, Utah to Elvin LeRoy Turner and Luana Jensen Turner. In 1980, Keith
married Rachel Loper. Though divorced in 1992, they raised three beautiful
daughters. On March 23, 1995, Keith was sealed to Brenda Kay Maxwell in the
Jordan River Temple, beginning an eternal marriage filled with unconditional
love and commitment. Keith was loved and esteemed by many for his lifetime of
exemplary service and dedication to his family, church and career. Keith faced
his most recent challenge with a perseverance, grace, and resolve developed
over a lifetime. The most important things in Keith's life were his
relationships with his Savior, wife and daughters. A graduate of Granger High
School and both Brigham Young University and the University of Utah, Keith was
professionally accomplished and widely admired. Never one to call attention to
himself, Keith diligently, faithfully, and quietly served in many capacities
in his church including a mission to the LDS North British Mission from
1968-1970. Keith is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; his daughters, Kelly,
Chelsea, and Shannon; his mother, Luana; sister, Gayla (Craig) Petty; and
brothers, Ralph (Judy) Turner and Royce Turner. Survived also by Brenda's
children, Karyn (Jonathan) Hodge, Lisa (Mark) Cannon, and Kenny (Kristin)
Howcroft; and grandchildren, Lily Hodge, William, and Benjamin Cannon. Keith
was preceded in death by his father, Elvin. Memorial services will be held
Wednesday, January 26, 12 noon in the Union 5th Ward chapel, 7784 S. 2000 E.
Friends and family are invited to visit at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal
Blvd. (7600 S.), Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and 11-11:45 a.m. prior to the memorial
service at the church Wednesday. Interment at the Mountain View Cemetery,
Cottonwood Heights. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions can

Jean Holt Van Dyke 1928 ~ 2005 SOUTH JORDAN/RIVERTON - Jean Holt Van Dyke
passed away January 21, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born January 20, 1928 in
South Jordan, Utah to Tracy Golden Holt and Jessie Emma Beckstead Holt.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bazil Van Dyke, who she married June
25, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. Jean was an optimistic and loving wife,
mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a devoted member of the LDS Church
who loved her neighbors. She valued education, hard work, and self-control.
Jean did not judge; she loved, accepted, and forgave freely. She enjoyed
giving more than receiving. She loved her family. Jean is survived by
daughter, Karen (David) Hall, Provo; sons, Paul (Robyn), Salt Lake City, Randy
(Ann), South Jordan, Lynn (Dana), South Jordan, and Kevin (Raylyn), Omaha,
Nebraska; 21 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Golden Ray Holt
(Shirley), Jerry Holt (Lola), both Riverton, Kent Holt (Carol), South Jordan;
sister, Jessie Warner, Riverton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday,
January 25, 2005, 11 a.m. at the Tithing Hill Ward, 1208 W. 12400 South,
Riverton. Friends may call Monday, January 24, 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090
South State and Tuesday 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, South Jordan
Cemetery.

Zahrt, Shayrrl Virginia Warner
Shayrrl Virginia Warner Zahrt 1930 ~ 2005 Shayrrl Virginia Warner Zahrt, age
74, passed away January 20, 2005 in Salt Lake City. Shayrrl was born October
5, 1930 in Odgen, Utah to Sylvan and Virginia Warner. She was the oldest
daughter of three siblings. She graduated valedictorian from Traverse City
High School in Traverse City, Michigan. She attended Brigham Young University.
She married Robert A. Zahrt December 22, 1950 in South Bend, Indiana. The
marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple June 27, 1968. Shayrrl
was a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She
held many positions in the Fort Wayne and South Bend Stake including, stake
Primary presidency, Relief Society president, and Primary president. Her two
favorite callings were teaching the investigators class and establishing and
running the stake Family History Library for many years. Shayrrl had many
interests, genealogy, sewing, painting, writing poetry, and decorating. She
loved to sing and share the gospel through genealogy. She worked many years at
the Osteopathic Hospital as a communication specialist. Shayrrl will be missed
by her husband, Robert "Buzzy"; children, Robert (Rochelle), Kim (Robyn),
Sandra (David) Naegle, Carl (Mary), and Dale (Pam); 12 grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; brother, James (Susan); sister, Virginia (Victor).
Funeral services will be Monday, January 24, 2005, 11 a.m. at the Jordan 6th
Ward, 3620 West 4400 South. Friends may call Sunday, January 23, 2005 at the
McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, from 6-8 p.m. and the day of
the service at the Ward from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial
Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Riverton. Mom, we will miss you! Now, go
and meet all those loved ones you found and gave the opportunity to hear the
