Assante 1920 ~ 2005 Born April 14, 1920 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He moved to Utah with his wife Nelly in 1995. Married for 60 years, he was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. His favorite and most enjoyable times were spent with his family. Jose's life was blessed with opportunities to serve and associate with many wonderful people, starting with his ward and stake and also in the Buenos Aires Temple Presidency. Survived by his wife Nelly, children Cecilia and Mory Caraway and Carlos and Sandy Assante, grandchildren Valerie, Thomas, Alison, Michael, Scott, Kelsey, Matthew, Evan and Bryn. She passed peacefully in the care of her daughter, Karen. Kathryn Louise "Kay" Conely Court was born Oct. 7, 1921 in Pocatello, Idaho, a daughter of Fredrick Myers and Pearl Adams Conely. Moved to Salt Lake in 1924. Attended schools in Sugar House area. Graduated from the University of Utah in 1943, member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Married Owen C. Court May 23, 1944. Librarian with Salt Lake County Library System for 17 hears, retiring in 1986. Member of the Episcopal Church. Her joys were her children, Jackie Longmore, Ron (Carolyn) Court and Karen Hippler; her grand and great-grandchildren, Misty (Kelly), Chris, Wendy, Adam, Sarah, Jake, Ben, Jeff, Jordan and Brianna. She was born in El Paso, Texas on November 17, 1923 to Joy Richard and Valley Hannah Gordon. She married Benjamin Franklin Crebs in Evanston, Wyoming; Ben preceded her in death in 1987. Christabel served as an election judge for many years and practiced as a LPN. She loved her garden and enjoyed traveling with her husband. Hansen, Margaret Rozilla Frampton Margaret Rozilla Frampton Hansen "Honey Boo" Margaret Rozilla Frampton Hansen entered this life as an eight-pound bouncing baby February 1, 1915, the daughter of Charles W. and Rozilla Ashby Frampton in Salt Lake City, Utah. She passed peacefully from our lives July, 10 2005. When Margaret was four her family moved from Salt Lake City to a small farm, way out in the sticks, in Holladay, Utah. After graduating from Granite High school she got a job in Washington, D.C. where she met her "Boo", a dashing fellow named Teddy whom she married in 1938. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple for 'time and eternity'. Margaret loved music and was an excellent singer, pianist and organist. Margaret and Teddy were avid square dancers (much to their children's embarrassment), and served two full-time missions for the LDS Church in Columbia and Chile, S.A. where Margaret used her musical gifts to help touch lives and make friends. She was loved by all who knew her and she continued to make friends until the time of her passing. Survived by her two children, Richard and Elizabeth, five grandsons and four great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Teddy L. Hansen. The family wishes to thank the staff at Brighton Gardens and the University of Utah Hospital for their excellent care and kindness. Hunt, Ina Ina Hunt 1/18/1929 ~ 7/13/2005 LEHI- Ina Louise Morris Hunt passed away peacefully on July 13, 2005, at her home in Lehi, surrounded by loved ones. She had fought a courageous fight with Leukemia. She was born January 18, 1929 in El Camino, California. Her parents were Lee A. Morris and Evaline Hancock Morris. Married Elwood C. Hunt on Feb. 17, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church, serving in various callings, including three full-time missions with her husband, and also served as an ordinance worker in both the Provo and Timpanogos Temples. She is the mother of 10 children: Craig (Sheila) Hunt, Kathy (Randy) Sermon, Marsha (Doug) Bennett, Randy (Lisa) Hunt, Tim (Tonya) Hunt, Arnold (Janine) Hunt, Sharlene (Randy) Fuja, Judy (Dave) Nolan, Robert (Carol) Hunt, David (Melinda) Hunt. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharlene. She has 41 grandchildren and 31 great-grand-children. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. Ret. 1921 ~ 2005 SALT LAKE CITY, UT-Our beloved, husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away Tuesday morning surrounded by his loving family after an astonishing battle for life. Born November 10, 1921 to John M. Ison and Judie Mullins. Willard was the eldest of three children including Brother Ira Ison who preceded him in death and his sister Helen Halterman. Born and raised in Kentucky his desire to expand his horizons led him to enlist in the Navy at 19 years old and he remained in the service of our country for the next 20 years. Willard served with the US Navy in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After serving our country Willard settled in Salt Lake City where he met the love of his life, Judith Louise Green, they married October 17, 1959 after a three week courtship. Together they have shared 46 years together creating a bond of eternal love and a life which includes six children, (one son (Brook) who preceded him in death) and 13 grandchildren. Willard has been an active member of the LDS church where he held a wide variety of positions at Ward and Stake level taking pride in serving his church. Willard was an active member of the Democratic Party participating in local and state elections. Willard was also a committed advocate of his local community serving his friends and neighbors. His love of life led him to enjoy many hobbies including, sketching, painting, guitar playing, gardening, baseball, and reading. Willard is survived by his Wife, Judith, his five children, John (Debbie), Nellie (Dale), Stephen (Babs), Peg (Paul) and Rachel (Charles) and 13 grandchildren, Nick, Katie, Josh, Becca, Laura, Michael, Sam, Sarah, Chloe, Jake, Luke, Hannah and Xavier and his precious dog (given to him by his granddaughter Hannah) Duncan. Jakeman, Duella Opal Duella Opal Jakeman 1919 ~ 2005 Duella Opal Jakeman passed away July 13, 2005 in her home of respiratory and congestive heart failure. At the time of her passing, she was under the watchful and loving care of her husband and hospice staff. Duella was born June 24, 1919 in Aurora, Utah, the last child of Ezra Artemus Stevens and Maud McDonald Stevens. She married John Kenneth Jakeman in Coalville, Utah on February 26, 1947 and later solemnized the marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. Duella had five children: Glenn Jakeman (Yakima, WA), Kenneth Jakeman (Murray, UT), and three from a previous marriage, Gloria (Hanks) Galloway (Saratoga Springs, UT), Larry Hanks (Ogden, UT), and Gregory Hanks (Aloha, OR). She also has 32 grandchildren, 65 plus great-grand-children, and one great-great-grand-daughter. Her parents, two older sisters Reva and Dicie and an older brother Don preceded her in death. Not only are her talents in the arts of music and painting renowned but she is also recognized for her abundant capacity to make others feel loved and appreciated. Scores of times has she walked up to a stranger, began a conversation and left making them feel better for having met her. We will sorely miss her. She and Dad served an LDS Mission to Adam-ondi-ahman, in Missouri. One of her paintings of Adam-ondi-ahman still hangs in the missionary meeting room. Services will be Saturday, July 16 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Garden Stake Center, 1028 West 1000 North, Pleasant Grove. Kasteler, Jennifer Swinyard Jennifer Swinyard Kasteler, born February 5, 1965 passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2005 due to the prolonged and enormous challenges of cancer. Those challenges were met with dignity and grace. She is the daughter of Rodger David and Emma Lou Parkinson Swinyard Kasteler. Jennifer was raised and educated in Holladay, Utah and graduated from Olympus High School. She attended Brigham Young University. She had a life long dream of filling a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to labor in the Virginia Roanoke Mission where she served with great honor. Jennifer purchased a home and lived in Sandy, Utah for a time. Her desires to travel led her to become a travel consultant. She worked for several travel companies at the same time teaching her skills at travel school that others might enjoy the same profession. During this time and following her diagnosis, she spent many weeks traveling to many parts of the world. She found great fulfillment in her travels but found her greatest joy in her testimony of Jesus Christ. Even during the great discomfort and lengthy treatments for her illness, Jennifer was an example of the utmost personal courage, grace and example to others. Heeding the Savior's charge to be of good cheer, she had a ready smile and voice of confidence that were a constant source of strength of her family and friends. She viewed her nieces and nephews as her own, often sharing her joy of travel with them. She took great joy in being with them and seeing them enjoy whatever she was able to share. Jennifer is survived by her parents, brother David (Lisa Scharffs) Kasteler and children Lauren, Maegan and Spencer; sister Lynda Whitaker and children Iesha, Etienne, Zane and Max: brother Jeffrey (Jodie Shelby) Kasteler and children Jaden, Jackson and James; brother Michael S. Kasteler; and foster brother Lee L. Vaovasa and wife Luse and children Nathan and Faye. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Orson W. and Viola P. Kasteler and Ewart A. and Grace P. Knighton, Howard King Howard King Knighton 1929 ~ 2005 Howard King Knighton, 76, passed away July 12, 2005 in Taylorsville, in the presence of his loving family. Born March 24, 1929 in Bountiful, Utah, son of William Henry and Mary Ellen King Knighton. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He married Melba Brunson Nov. 10, 1951 in Fillmore, Utah; later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church and held many callings including High Priest Group Leader. Served a mission with his wife in the Tennessee Nashville mission. Survived by wife, Melba; children: Terrie (Dan) Pendleton, Laurie Knighton, Susan (Steve) Mutchler, Doug (Katie), Starla (Ken) Kiger; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Ray. Published in the Deseret News from 7/14/2005 - 7/15/2005. Lloyd, Ann Packer Ann Packer Lloyd 1916 ~ 2005 Ann Packer Lloyd, 89, passed away peacefully of natural causes July 12, 2005 in Sandy, Utah. She was born June 26, 1916, the second daughter of Samuel P. Packer and Martha Sutherland in Preston, Idaho. Her mother passed away during the flu epidemic of 1918 leaving baby Ann with no recollection of her mother and a longing to be with her again. Their heavenly reunion gives her family much solace during this time of grief. Ann was raised by her loving father and stepmother, Allie Hanson, in Preston. She was especially close to her older sister, Helen and loved her brothers, Samuel Lyle, Allen, and Richard. She attended schools in Preston graduating in 1934. She lived with her grandmothers while attending Utah State University and graduated in 1938 with an English degree, minoring in business. She taught school in Mink Creek and Grace, Idaho. Ann married Parley Lloyd June 5, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated 66 years of marriage. He was by her side, as always, when she left this life. Ann was blessed with two loving children, Karen and Spence. They raised their family on a dairy/dry farm in Grace, Idaho. Ann and Parley retired to Logan in 1972, then moved to Provo and finally Salt Lake City. Never more than a few blocks from an LDS Temple, they served often and attended weekly. They were spiritual anchors for their family and friends and found ways to serve in every stage of life. Although her eyesight began to fail 30 years ago, she never complained nor stopped making weekly loaves of heavenly bread. Ann was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and serving in various callings including Stake Relief Society President in Grace, Stake YWMIA President in Montpelier, Idaho, and a temple worker in Logan. She unwaveringly supported her husband in his callings. She was honored to be a member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Ann laughed easily and often through good and hard times and was the epitome of a kind soul. She exemplified to her posterity the importance of faith, honesty and a scoop of ice cream after dinner. She is survived by her husband Parley, daughter Karen (Gary), and son Spence (Sandy), all of Sandy, Utah. She will be greatly missed by her 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, a great-grand-son, as well as all her siblings. Marriott, Woodrow Duane Woodrow Duane Marriott 6/27/1914~7/12/2005 Woodrow (Woody) Duane Marriott, 91, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born June 27, 1914, in Marriott, Utah, to Hyrum Willard and Ellen Morris Marriott. Woody attended the public schools and graduated from Weber College in Ogden. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Britain, where he played on the mission's baseball team, the Rochdale Greys. Woody married Judith Cannon in the Salt Lake Temple on July 26, 1938. They made their home in Washington, D.C., where Woody pursued his four-decade career with the Marriott Corporation. An active member of the Chevy Chase Ward, Woody took time to serve in many civic and community groups, including president of Boys Club and Rotary. He also helped many young people attend college and serve missions. Woody loved horses, fishing, and hunting, and spent many weekends at the Marriott Farm in Hume, Virginia. He also enjoyed golf (he had 16 holes-in-one), tennis, and raising and racing thoroughbred horses. Woody is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Georgia Marriott; four sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include his wife, Judith Cannon Marriott; his four children, Nancy Jean Marriott Sonkens (Jerry), David Cannon Marriott (Neill), Susan Marriott Ickes, and Judith Ann Marriott Ballstaedt (Mark); 36 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren. Louise was born May 29, 1924 in Salt Lake to Grant Gordon and Mary Ellen Brown Woodward. Sealed to Donald Rex McGhie November 26, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple and have been best friends and so much in love for 57 years. She was Miss Sugarhouse and Utah Centennial Queen in 1947. Mother will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her genuine love and concern for everyone she met. She worked for many banks throughout her life. She served faithfully in various callings. She enjoyed making quilts and afghans for her family, she loved the gospel and was our perfect example. Survived by spouse Donald Rex McGhie, children: Ronald W. She was born September 30, 1932 in Richfield, Utah to Raymond E. and Maxine Hayes Carr. She graduated from Richfield High School and the U of U. She married Donald Lamoine Christensen on December 29, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple. Five years after his death she married Arden Earl Meeks on November 23, 1966. As a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she loved us, taught us and sacrificed for us. She taught kindergarten for eight years in Murray. She was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in many capacities, with a passion for genealogy and temple work. She enjoyed gardening, tennis, sewing, playing the piano, writing and doing family history. She was proud of her Irish heritage and instilled that love into the hearts of her children. Sherry was loved by all who knew her and her kind, gentle spirit will be greatly missed. Survived by daughters: Melody (Robert) Putnam, DeAnn (Leon) Kelsey, Karyn (Robbie) Madsen, Janet (Scott) Murray and Susan (Mike) Fitch, sons: Derek (Collene) Meeks, James (Patti) Meeks, and Mick Meeks, 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Troy Neff was taken from us suddenly July 11, 2005 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident, leaving those of us who knew and loved him with a profound sadness and disbelief. Troy was born October 7, 1971 in Salt Lake City, Utah to April Walker. He married Jonnie Lynn Santistevan, later divorced. Troy was a devoted father to Shay, Tishara, Kobi and Kiley, and he loved his sweetheart, Gwen Jakobison, and her children Chris and Miranda very much. Troy had a big heart that felt very deeply. He loved his trucks, flying, outdoor sports and most of all, spending time with his family. Troy overcame many challenges in his life, set high goals and worked hard toward them. He was currently attending Salt Lake Community College majoring in accounting and business management, was on the deans list, and had been accepted at Weber State College to finish his degree. We are proud of his achievements. Troy is survived by parents, April and William Hickman; grandmother, Maurine Walker; brothers and sisters, Michael, Justin, Brandon, Adrian, Kimberly, Sasha, Dionne; many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by the grandfather he held dear, Wayne James Walker. Troy's family would like to thank the kind nurse at the scene who began CPR, the paramedics who worked so hard to save his life and the Murray City Police for their hard work, caring and support. He was our beloved husband, father, grandpa "PaPa", brother, son and uncle who tragically passed away on July l3th 2005 due to a motorcycle accident. He left this earth doing what he loved to do. Ron was a very loving and genuine person who always put himself last. He was a child at heart who was great with children, especially his little Mi-mi, and they all adored him back. He longed for the day to see the face of Jesus, if there was anyone who deserved to see it, it was him. He also got to join his daughter Susie who passed away 12 years ago. He was the best husband, father and papa you could ever imagine. He didn't wait until tomorrow to love somebody. He will be forever missed by everyone he ever came in contact with. We love you more than words can ever express. We can't wait to see you again, have fun dancing with Jesus. Reese, Ione "Deed" Ione "Deed" Reese 'Reunited at last' 1921 ~ 2005 Marjorie Ione Reese, 83, passed away at the U of U Hospital July 13, 2005 of a brain aneurysm. Born September 15, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lee Scott and Cleo Knowlden. Ione was an all-star softball player for the Salt Lake Shamrocks, a championship bowler, a championship golfer, and a model. She was the Hidden Valley Country Club champion for three years where she was president of the Ladies Gold Association, and she also set the women's course record at the Bloomington Country Club in St. George, Utah. She is the oldest woman to win a club championship in Utah golf, sinking several holes in one. Ione had the gift of wit and cooking. She will be missed by all whom she touched. Ione is survived by her "dear dotter" Penny Murphy, brother Lee Scot, her three grandchildren: Marci Fedderson, Mike (Dee) Murphy, Misty Murphy, six great-grandchildren: Stephani (Brett) Teran, Michael, Tyler, Gabrielle, Tysha and Kevin, and was anticipating the birth of her first great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her soulmate David William Reese "Fwapps," her twin sister Dorothy Irene DeAngelis, her parents, and her dearest friend Shirley Thomas. Stilson, Lyle Melvin Lyle Melvin Stilson 1917 ~ 2005 CASTLE DALE - Lyle Melvin Stilson, age 88, passed away July 12, 2005 in Santa Clara, UT. Born Feb. 20, 1917 in Orangeville, UT to Melvin and Clara Ella Hall Stilson. He married Nola Mae Jones, May 23, 1940 in the Manti LDS Temple and served in numerous callings in the church throughout his life. He is survived by his four children: DeAnn Cox (Kimball), Pam Jewkes (Jim), Eric Lyle Stilson (Tracy) and Kayla Mae Reichman and sisters Bly Gregerson, Pat DeWitt, Fawn Coakley and Roma Christensen, 17 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 15, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Castle Dale Stake Center. Friends and family may call there between 12:30 and 1:45 p.m. prior to services. Thomas, Kent Edward Kent Edward Thomas 1940 ~ 2005 Kent Edward Thomas, 65, passed away on July 12, 2005, in Rincon Canyon at his beloved Lake Powell. He was born on June 22, 1940 in Salt Lake City to Elton Kenneth and Jean Frandsen Thomas. Kent founded Kent Thomas, Inc. in the early 1970's. He built the company from spare space in his home garage to an international, multi-million dollar laundry and dry cleaning equipment business. For over 45 years, Kent was an expert on all aspects of the laundry and dry cleaning industry and he made wonderful friends and colleagues throughout the world. He loved model airplanes, boating, water skiing, all water sports, hiking, rock hunting, golf, music and spending time with his grandchildren. Kent was a man who lived life to the fullest and was happiest surrounded by his family at Lake Powell, at his mountain cabin or barbequing in his back yard. He is survived by his mother, Jean E. Thomas, his loving wife Afton, and his five daughters Melodie Jean (Tom) Jacobsen, Shellie (Stan) Biesele, Michelle (Lee) Lawrence, May (Eric) Harris, and Jody (George) Mattena; sister, Linda Stuart and brothers Gordon and Norman Thomas. Kent's greatest delight came from his grandchildren, CJ, BreAnne, Michael, Travis, Cameron, Lexi, Samantha, Kay Lynn, Austin, Bobbie "Bo Jo", Haley, Shantell and special nephew David. Jon was born March 13, 1946 in Salt Lake City, UT. to Helen Bowring Ure and James William Ure. Preceded in death by his parents. Jon was married twice, once to Linda Silver, later divorced, and once to Lori Major, later divorced. Jon is survived by son Noah Silver Ure, Seattle, WA: daughters, Emily Ure Brown and Jessica Claire Ure, both of Salt Lake City; brothers Jim Ure and Joe Ure, both of Salt Lake; and sister, Martha Niederhauser, Acton, MA.
