Born April 20, 1920 in Huntington, UT to Frank and Katie Mathie Robbins. Married Wiggo F. Axelgard July 20, 1946 in Carson City, NV. She graduated from North Emery High School in 1938 and LDS Business College in 1940. After graduation she worked as a legal secretary, then took a Civil Service job with the U.S. Government. During World War II she worked at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden and the Army Transportation Core in Salt Lake City. She was transferred Presidio in San Francisco at the end of the war then worked for the Veterans Administration in Oakland, CA. She was awarded a distinguished award from the U.S. Government for her exemplary service and was extremely popular with her fellow employees. Verna married the love of her life and high school sweetheart in 1946 and began 59 years of married bliss. This began an exciting and enjoyable time of her life as her husband's employment took them to many foreign countries. Verna created homes for her family in Kobe, Japan; Taipei, Taiwan; Teheran, Iran and Athens, Greece. Athens was her favorite foreign city, second only to San Francisco. Her unique ability to fit in with foreign cultures and making friendships won her many lifetime friends in these away places. She was an active member of the LDS Church. One of her greatest enjoyments was to mother and host young Mormon Missionaries who were a long way from home. Her loving and caring personality was very contagious and will be sorely missed. Verna is survived by her husband Wiggo, daughter Kaye, sons Fred and C.T., brother Dale, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 22, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the Huntington 3rd Ward LDS Church, Huntington, UT, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. There is also a viewing at the Millcreek LDS Stake Center, 420 E. 4220 S., Salt Lake City from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 21st. Bartholomew, Elden (Eldon) Elden (Eldon) Bartholomew 1920 ~ 2005 Elden Bartholomew, 84, passed away in his home July 17, 2005. He was born September 1st, 1920 in Fayette, Sanpete County, Utah to Floyd Bartholomew and Pearl Larsen Bartholomew. He married Lena Roberts in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity on February 17th, 1939. Elden was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various church callings including Elder's Quorum President, Ward Sunday School President, a member of the Stake High Council, and counselor in the bishopric. He served with his wife and eternal companion on two missions for the church; the first in Cardston, Alberta in the Temple Visitors Center; the second in the Mesa, Arizona Temple Visitors Center. Elden and Lena also served as Provo Temple ordinance workers. He served in the National Guard and then in the Navy in the Pacific in World War II. He has worked hard all of his life doing many things including farmer, rancher, cowboy, baker and butcher. He raised his family on a farm and ranch and said that "it was the best investment I'd ever made, not because of any money I took in from it because I don't think I ever made a dime farming but I raised the finest boys that there are in this world." Elden is survived by his wife and sweetheart of more than 66 years, Lena of Springville, Utah; their daughter AnnaLee Chamberlain (Lee), of St. George, Utah; and three sons, Michael (Barbara) of Springville, Utah; Darrell (Lois) of Clayton, North Carolina; and Steven (Susan) of Springville, Utah. Sheldon (Linda), his oldest son, passed away August 4th, 1980 on a lake in northern Manitoba, Canada and was surely there to greet Elden at his passing. Elden has 39 grandchildren and 78 great-grandchildren; he is survived by a numerous and righteous posterity who love and miss him. Elden was the fifth of 13 children; he was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Dwight, and Oral; and by his sisters, Hettie, Ora, and Pearl. He is survived by his brothers, Wayne, Owen, Gail and Dan, and by his sisters Vivian, Vera, and Miriam. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 1965 East Canyon Road in Springville. There will be a viewing Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville and Wednesday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 prior to the services. Blackham, Charles Ray Charles Ray Blackham 1913 ~ 2005 CASTLE DALE, UTAH- Ray Blackham, 92, passed away on July 17, 2005 at his home surrounded by his wife of 69 years and his family. He was born on March 15, 1913, in Kenilworth, Utah, to Charles Herschel and Hazel Jewkes Blackham. Ray spent most of his life in Orangeville and Castle Dale, Utah. He worked in the CCC Camps as a young man in Washington, Oregon and Utah. While in Manila, Utah, he met his wife Eleanor B. Potter. They were married on January 6, 1936, in Manila, their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Ray spent most of his life working as a mechanic, with the last several years as the Emery County School District Bus Supervisor. After his retirement, Ray and Eleanor spent many happy years transporting the Senior Citizens of Emery County to activities. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He and Eleanor served a mission to the Manti Temple. Ray is survived by his beloved Eleanor, three sons Kell (Roma), Tim (Alice) and Lloyd (Suzanne), six grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Also survived by his brother Von Wayman and sister Leah Jacobs. Preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Welzie W. Wayman, five brothers and sisters and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at the Castle Dale 2nd Ward, 33 East Main Street in Castle Dale, Utah, at 12:00 noon, Thursday, July 21, 2005, where friends may call from 10-11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Bowman, Alvin Curtis Alvin Curtis Bowman 1943 ~ 2005 Alvin Curtis Bowman, age 62, passed away after a patient and courageous battle with cancer Friday, July 15, 2005. He was born May 28, 1943, in Montpelier, Idaho. His grade school years began in Clearfield, Utah, and from there to Bountiful, where he graduated from Bountiful High School. He learned early to appreciate good music and played the piano well. In high school and college, he frequently participated in various choral groups and enjoyed playing the organ in the Bountiful Temple. He was always active in the church and served an LDS mission to Germany. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in biological sciences. After serving in the Army in Vietnam for over a year, he worked in New York City in a bank and then retired after 31 years of government service. He married Gretta Mansfied in the Salt Lake Temple, later divorced. He is survived by his daughter, Somerset, age seven; mother, Mazi Cundick; brother, Roy Bowman; and stepsisters, Karlen Schwizsow, and Karen Klungervik. In addition, he has one niece and three nephews, as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Wednesday, July 20, at 11 a.m., viewing from 10-10:45 a.m.. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery. Browning, Susan Elizabeth Susan Elizabeth Browning 1944 ~ 2005 Susan Elizabeth Browning died of cancer July 14, 2005. She was born in Chicago February 14, 1944 to Dorothy Hughes Browning and Thomas Clifton Browning. Her family moved to Salt Lake City in 1952. She attended Olympus High School where she was co-editor of the newspaper and the University of Utah where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi and participated in many school activities. She graduated in 1965 with a BA in English and aspirations for a career in journalism and then took a somewhat different path. She first worked in the advertising department at Cornell University Press in Ithaca, NY and then for a number of years in the Community Relations Department at the University Hospital, SLC where she wrote the employee newsletter. From 1984 until her retirement in 2000 she was the Church Administrator at the First Unitarian Church, SLC. There she became acquainted with many wonderful people whose love and support during these last years have been very welcome. She enjoyed music, gardening, dogs, and outdoor activities and had a special concern for environmental issues. Survivors include a sister, Ann Browning, SLC; a brother, Tom (Nina) Browning, Madison, WI; and his family of four children and eight grandchildren, Michael Browning, Madison WI; Carolyn (Mark) Ritchie, Alex and Oliver, Brisbane, Australia; Sue (Jim) Claire, Jillian, Jamie and Emily, Charlotte, NC; Lisa (Scot) Constine, Cody, Kali, and Cassie, Phippsburg, CO. A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 21, 2005 10 a.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, with the assistance of the Ridgedale Ward. Carr, Jacquelyn Fain Jacquelyn Fain Carr 8/6/25 ~ 7/15/05 On July 15, 2005, Jacquelyn left this earth with hope and love for all her family, humankind, and the world. She was born August 6, 1925 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Clarence Barnes Fain and Elizabeth Louise Foster. Jacquelyn was raised and educated in Texas. She married Kenneth Sayre Perelson at Highland Park Methodist Church in Dallas. They had five lovely daughters, Virginia, Diane, Jill, Susan, and Pamela. After Ken and Jacquelyn parted company, she married Robert Wilcox Carr. Jacquelyn's life was full, rich, and wonderful. She leaves behind a legacy of her five daughters, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grand children, whom she dearly loved. She is also survived by two brothers, William Fain and Tyrus Fain. The family wants to extend their deepest gratitude to Lisa Baxter for her compassionate care of Jacquelyn. Christensen, Thomas Randall "Tom" Thomas "Tom" Randall Christensen 1925 ~ 2005 VENICE, UTAH - Tom Christensen, 79, of Venice, Utah, passed away July 17, 2005, in Provo, Utah. He was born September 13, 1925, in McCornick, Utah to Ida Belle Gledhill and Randall Christensen. He married Dezra June Leavitt, in the Manti LDS Temple on November 18, 1946. Tom was a successful and dedicated dairyman and farmer in the Sevier Valley his entire life. An important part of Tom's life and happiness, besides his loving family, was serving in local, regional, and state organizations. He served 12 years in the Utah State Legislature, 1979 to 1991. He was a member of the LDS Church and served as bishop, in bishoprics, 35 years as ward clerk and many other church callings. Tom and June served together in the Fish Lake Branch and in the Manti Temple. He served in the Army during World War II and was in the 213th Field Artillery Battalion in the Korean War. Tom will be remembered by all who knew him for his honesty, fairness, integrity and the courtesy with which he treated everyone. He is survived by his wife, June, Venice; children, Randy and Sue Christensen, serving a mission in Argentina; Tom and Bess Christensen, Annabella; Jack Christensen, Sandy; Janese Christensen, Provo, Roxanne and Mike Staheli, Oak City; and Jonathan and Christine Christensen, Bountiful; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Randa Melville, Bowling Green, KY; and Afton Buchanan Whitbeck, Salt Lake; brothers-in-law, Keith and Roberta Hooper, Richfield; and Ralph Hafen, St. George; sister-in-law, Ann Buchanan, Kaysville; and his special cousin, Don and Mina Nebeker, American Fork. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Christian Leroy Buchanan, who raised him; sisters, Mary Christensen Hooper; Iris Buchanan Hafen; brother, Dwain Buchanan; brother-in-law, Robert Melville; two infant grandchildren. Cottrell, Donald Ernest Donald Ernest Cottrell 1930 ~ 2005 Donald Ernest Cottrell, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away surrounded by his family on July 17, 2005 in Kaysville, Utah after a long battle with cancer. Don was born on January 6, 1930 in McGill, Nevada to John W. and Mary Gertrude Garside Cottrell. Don married Betty Jean Bates on November 5, 1951. They had three daughters. They were later divorced. He married Linda Rae Blood on December 17, 1976. The marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple in October, 1985. Don lived in McGill until he was 18 when he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on February 4, 1948. He served on Guam and other Pacific Islands, and then was stationed at Perrin AFB in Texas beginning in 1951. Don was then stationed in Japan at Johnson AFB, Tokyo for 18 months and returned to Texas in April 1953. He was discharged from the Air Force in September of that same year. He worked at Perrin AFB as a civilian employee in flight operations. He transferred to Hill AFB in 1957 in the same operation. He attended and graduated from the FAA Academy in 1959. He then returned to Hill and continued working in flight operations and later Range Control Operations. He was promoted to Range Control Liaison Officer for the Utah Test and Training Range at Dugway Proving Grounds. He retired February 2, 1985 with 35 years service. Don had a special interest in shooting trap and skeet and was twice president of the Hill Rod and Gun Club and was instrumental in getting the Wasatch Gun Range open in Fruit Heights. He has many trophies for trap and skeet shooting and was runner-up to the Utah State Champion in Skeet in 1973. Don and Linda were called to serve two missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The first of which was in the Baton Rouge, LA Mission June 1986 to November, 1987. They later served in the Texas Houston East Mission from March, 1993 to February, 1994. In January, 1997 they were called to serve as ordinance workers in the Bountiful Temple. Don has had many church callings in his life, including: Elder's Quorum Presidency, Executive Secretary, High Priest Presidency and was a faithful home teacher for many years. Don was a great example of service. After living in Layton, Utah for 28 years, they moved to McGill where Don was born and raised. He has left behind many dear friends who have traveled many miles to help in his care and serve him through his illness. He is survived by his wife, Linda; and his three daughters: Catherine Ann (John) Williams of Syracuse, Rebekah Lynn (Bob) Elmer of Salt Lake City, Mary Lee (Kelly) Waite of Layton; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dale of McGill, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and five sisters. The family would like to give a special thanks to the dedicated caregivers of Community Nursing Services and Hospice for the special care given to Don and the family. Daraban The best Dad anyone could have Alex G. Daraban died July 15, 2005 at his home in Salt Lake City. He was born Feb. 7, 1916 in Cleveland, OH, to Anna Lakatosh and Alex S. Daraban. In his early years, his family moved to Sunnyside, Utah, where his father worked as a miner. He graduated from Carbon High School, where he played the drums and was the drum major. He loved to go rabbit hunting with his friends and fishing with his dad. This was a lifelong hobby for both of them. Fishing was his favorite sport until his son, Paul, introduced him to golf. His love of aviation took him to the Army Signal Corp where he traveled a great deal, learning airplane maintenance and eventually learning to fly. After the end of World War II, he returned to Salt Lake City and began classes at the Art Barn to learn art and framing under the tutelage of Lynn Faucett. There, he met Bessie (Niki) Nicolaides. They were married Oct. 10, 1947. In 1956, they adopted their first child, Paul, from Patras, Greece. In 1963, they adopted their daughter, Anastasia, from Athens, Greece. He worked as a printer for Ideal National Insurance until his retirement at 70. He designed several award-winning annual report covers, displaying his graceful artwork. In his retirement years, he turned to gardening to fulfill his need for artwork. He loaded the garden with 40 varieties of roses. He would show visitors with glee any rose that had a heavenly fragrance, produced a huge bloom or displayed a myriad of colors. He was a kind, forgiving and generous father and husband. You were the best dad a child could have and we will miss you. He is survived by his wife and children; sisters, Elizabeth Gray, Elenora Geerlings and Betty Beckstead. Davis, Judy Diane Setterberg Judy Diane Setterberg Davis 1953 ~ 2005 Judy Diane Setterberg Davis passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly, on July 16, 2005, surrounded by her entire family. She was born in Key West, Florida, December 3, 1953 to Glenn B. and Beverly J. Setterberg. After a short time in Key West they returned to the Salt Lake area and Diane spent the rest of her life in the Sandy/Draper area. Diane had three sons, Jeremy, Brandon and Darin who were the light of her life. On March 3, 1987 she married Daniel R. Davis. No two people could have loved and respected each other more than Danny and Diane. They were always there for each other and with each other no matter the occasion or the hardship. Diane had a very loving and close family and extended family and friends. She would spread her wings like a mother hen and be there for everyone with her caring and sense of humor and doting ways. She was always positive about everything, she would be there to listen or offer advice, she would put others before her own needs. As her son said "She was my hero." Diane is survived by her father and step-mother, Becky; her mother; her husband, Danny; sons, Jeremy, Brandon (Lea), Darin; nine grandchildren; brothers, Glenn, Kent (Mimi), Troy (Victoria); sisters, Valerie, Jana (Doug), Angie (Will); and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Dixon, Kelly Owen Kelly Owen Dixon "Oscar" Kelly Owen Dixon, in his heart first and always a musician, left his world of sorrow and pain and found peace with his Heavenly Father July 15, 2005 at the age of 45. He was born December 14, 1959 in Salt Lake City to Ronald and Gay Dixon. Kelly graduated from Granger High School and SLCC in Computer Science. He was an Eagle Scout and also had several Microsoft Certified Professional Certifications for which he worked very hard. Married Cindy Massey February 1, 1980 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; later divorced. The joy and pride of his life were his children, Kagan, Jourdan, and Keli. Kelly had great love and loyalty for his family and friends, even through his long, difficult struggles. Walking boldly beside him were brothers, Kevin (Michele), Jim (Lindsey), Gordon (Brenda), and sister Melyn (Shane) who gave him great support and love. Eckhold, age 90, was born to pioneer parents, Leamon D. and Melissa Farnes Bronson in Sterling, ID. She passed away 7/13/2005 with Joyce, her daughter, by her side. Viola married Merle Hunt in 1932 and later divorced. They had one daughter. Viola worked for Dr. Mercer Anderson where she met her eternal companion, Anthony I. Eckhold. They married in 1948. He died in 1953. Viola was very active in the LDS Church and had many callings. She had good health and cared for herself until May, 2005. She endured well her many challenges with a cheerful heart. She had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed being part of Halloween parties. She loved everyone, especially children. Over the years she cared for most of her entire family, and all have stories of how she saved their lives. She is preceded in death by her husband, and seven siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Hunt Brown, sister Fern McDermott, three grandchildren, 13 great-grand-children, 12 great-great-grand-children, and many nieces and nephews. Helphenstine, Ned Ned Helphenstine 1926 ~ 2005 After many courageous battles throughout his life, Ned Helphenstine returned home to his Heavenly Father on July 15. Ned was born December 6, 1926. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lamona and their three children, Duqui (Duke), Monique and Da Vee, their spouses and 12 grandchildren. Hopes, Dennis George Dennis George Hopes 1940 ~ 2005 Dennis George Hopes, our dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed peacefully on July 14, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Family and friends were by his side as he was received by our Heavenly Father. Dennis was born June 20, 1940 in Provo, Utah to George Arthur Hopes and Evelyn Holden Hopes. He attended South High School. He married Lynda White on September 2, 1966 in Elko, Nevada. Dennis was always mechanically inclined and started out working for LAMCO as an Automotive Technician. He then went on to work for Cummins Intermountain as a diesel machinist and foreman for 10 years. Later, he ventured off on his own and started his own diesel machine shop, "Denny's Machine Service Inc.", which he ran successfully for 25 years. There were many happy hours spent sharing stories and friendships while gathering around the work bench. Even with ill health, he couldn't be kept away from the shop. Dad was a wonderful strong and hard working man who always had an open wallet, lending hand, generosity and huge golden heart for anyone who needed it. He had a fun sense of humor and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. Whether it was teaching woodworking crafts, fishing or just cuddling up on the recliner for a nice long nap together, the grandchildren's "Grandpa" will be dearly missed. Before his health prevented him, Dad loved the yearly deer hunt, camping, fishing, golf and woodworking. He also enjoyed old westerns, Nascar Races, Ford Trucks and his gun collection. Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Lynda; children, Denny (April), Lisa (Kyle) Workman, Daniel (Erika) and Lynette (James) Black; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Arlene), Robert (Ellie), Larry (Nita) and Ken (Debbie); sister, Carol (Al) Sorrells, as well as many nieces and nephews. She graduated from Orem High School and then attended BYU. She received her Associates Degree from UVSC. Victoria enjoyed her life in the Provo/Orem area. She was actively involved in the LDS Church. She always set a great example to those around her. She loved her callings in Primary and activity planning. Victoria had a great work ethic, working at Word Perfect and most recently at "Creating Keepsakes" magazine where she incorporated her hobbies, talents and happiness with her job. Her family was her greatest joy. For many years she was the PTA Bug, planning many fun activities for the kids. She loved planning get-togethers and outings for her family. She was always very upbeat and positive, even through her recent illness. She will be greatly loved and missed. She is survived by her three children, Beverly (Todd) Ostler of Payson, Ryan (Stephanie) James of Idaho, and Nick (Tara) James of Provo; her brother Mark (Dana) Adamson; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Knapp, Phyllis Elsie Jensen Hamblin Phyllis Elsie Jensen Hamblin Knapp "Nana" A love of live, its beauty and family are what gave Phyllis her zest for life for 101 years. Phyllis was born on May 24, 1904, the fourth of seven children, to Henry O. and Annie E. Peterson Jensen in Manti, Utah. She attended school in Manti, at Utah State and received her Bachelor's degree in education from the University of Utah. She married Elbert G. Hamblin in 1927 in Kanab, Utah. He died in 1949. She married Fred A. Knapp in 1955 in Salt Lake City. He died in 1961. Mother is survived by three children: Gail Jean Hutchison, Holladay, McRae J. (Ren ) Hamblin, Las Vegas, Richard Kent Hamblin, Las Vegas, 11 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Mother loved the Lord and served him well throughout her life. Mother's great love was teaching school. She taught for 40 years and "loved every day of it." It was never a job, but a great honor and privilege. Mother's retired life was filled with brisk walks, blooming flowers, games of bridge, visiting her sons in "Las Vegas", music, her special friends and neighbors, and a love for the Utah Jazz that surpassed any fan. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be so dearly missed. Not a day went by that Mother didn't express, "My family is my life!" Loughton, Elsie Mae Elsie Mae Loughton 1921 ~ 2005 Elsie (Elsa) Mae Lichty Loughton passed away peacefully on July 17, 2005 surrounded by her loved ones. Elsa was a lady of great courage, elegance and strength. She was born March 6, 1921 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to Jacob and Elsie Mae Bruch Lichty. She married Raymond Loughton, from Ogden, Utah in 1941 in Washington, D.C. They were sealed for time and all eternity in 1960 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together they served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one to La Paz, Bolivia and two to the Visitor's Center at the Washington, D.C. Temple. She was active in her Church and community. She traveled with her husband as a diplomat's wife to Mexico and left her gracious influence with all who met her. She was a great hostess. Elsa is survived by her husband of 64 years, and their six children, Linda (John) Field of Delaware, Sandra (Marshall) Sclarow, Colorado, Paul (Ranette) Loughton, Utah, Jon (LuAnn) Loughton of Utah, Debra (Stanley) Gamero, Utah, Donna (James) Keenan of New Jersey, and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was an inspiration to his family. Loved coin collecting and spending time with his family. He was a hard and dedicated employee for Salt Lake County for over 30 years. Larry took responsibility for his mother at a young age so his dad could work the farm. He was a wonderful son, father and husband. Margetts, 86, our beloved husband, dad, and grandpa, passed away July 17, 2005. He was born August 10, 1918 in West Jordan, Utah to Lorenzo Robert and Caroline Steadman Margetts. On January 28, 1942, Harvey married Thelma Phelps in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Harvey graduated from Jordan High School and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He served in the field artillery and in the European Theatre and was a member of the DAV. He worked as a salesman in the lumber and hardware business; 20 years at West Jordan Lumber and 20 years at Cook Lumber and Butterfield Lumber. Harvey was a lifelong resident of Midvale and worked on many committees for Midvale City, including the beautification committee. For over 40 years, Harvey was a member of the Midvale Volunteer Fireman Association. Marshall A Life Well Lived Arthur William Marshall, 93, died peacefully July 18, 2005. He was born February 7, 1912 in Salt Lake City, UT to Dr. William A. and Anna R. Marshall. He graduated from Salt Lake Collegiate College (Westminster) and the University of Utah (B.A. in Business in 1933). He married Alice Lieberman on February 7, 1941. His wife of 60 years preceded him in death in 2002. They enjoyed so much together-family, friends, travel, and especially time at their cabin on the Weber River. Art began the first ten years of his business career in the depths of the Depression selling life insurance. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II, including service in the European theatre. He left active duty in 1945 with the rank of Major, and continued his business career. In 1954 he established A.W. Marshall Co., a wholesale business that specialized in candy. The business received recognition in a national candy industry magazine for its innovative ideas. He served as a director of the National Candy Wholesaler's Association from 1966 to 1972. The business continues and Art served as Honorary Chairman of Board. He was president of the Salt Lake Gyro (1980-81). He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Wasatch Lodge # 1 F&AM, and a Noble of El Kalah Temple. He enjoyed hunting at the Northpoint Duck club. Tammy was a special person who was an advocate for the mental health system and gave many speeches concerning mental illness. Stromness, Richard John "Dick" Richard John (Dick) Stromness 03/23/18 ~ 07/16/05 His famous line, "I work for a living, what do you do?" captures the essence of our family patriarch. Dick used this line to make acquaintances wherever he went in his daily journey. An innovative and creative builder, Dick founded his construction company, Build Inc., in 1953. Working with his wife and sons throughout his life, he found success through taking on and solving construction challenges that others could not tackle. He loved active creative work and was on the job as recently as last Tuesday. Dick was born to Edward Evensen Stromness, Jr. and Sarah Rose Langenbacker March 23, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He died July 16, 2005 in Bountiful, Utah. His parents and two older sisters, Enid Stromness and Norma Grames, preceded him in death. Dick married Mary Louise Noall November 12, 1942, and they shared 63 years together. For 56 years they resided in the home Dick built in Bountiful. Dick is survived by his wife, Mary; their six children, Suzanne (Joel) Warnick, Marian (Ned) Myers, Margaret Paydar. Richard (Malayna) Stromness, Fred Stromness, and Ilene Garrard; as well as 19 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Dick treasured each and every child that arrived in the family. As a young man, Dick was called to an LDS mission in Norway, his ancestral homeland. At the onset of World War II, he was transferred to the Southern States Mission. He recounted many fond memories of his missionary service and his experiences with the Boy Scouts. He was an Eagle Scout and a Scout leader, he eventually received the Silver Beaver Award. He enjoyed mentoring young men and had a strong influence on many people he met. He was very generous with his family members and with many others. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 28, 1953. During his lifetime Mr. Thomas worked as a carpenter, farmer, electrician, worked in the lumber industry and owned his own trucking business. He loved to hunt and fish. He served on the South Summit School Board for twenty-two years and served his community on the Kamas Town Board for many years. He was an avid sports fan of the Jazz and South Summit High. He loved his children, grandchildren and his dog Snooky. Survived by his sons, Phil (Carole Ann) Thomas, Kamas; and Dee (Glenda) Thomas, Ferron, UT; sisters: Elva Hallam, Francis; and Edna Swena Kamas; his special friend, Varena Lambert, Kamas; also six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Weight, Patricia Johnson Patricia Johnson Weight 1932 ~ 2005 Our beautiful, kind, loving wife, mother and grandmother Patricia Johnson Weight passed from this life July 17, 2005 from heart failure. Patricia was born December 4, 1932 at her grandmother's home in Fairview Idaho, to Beatrice Gilbert and Jesse Lamb Johnson. She grew up on a farm East of Preston, in "Little Egypt." While attending BYU Patricia met her eternal sweetheart Glen Aldous Weight. They were married in the Logan Temple on September 12, 1952 and together they raised five sons and one daughter. Her greatest joy in this life was her family, spending time with them, supporting them in their activities and their coming home for family get-togethers. She enjoyed being kept up on all that was happening in their lives. She is proud of the fact that her five sons and 'favorite son-in-law' were all Eagle Scouts and her grandsons are following in this tradition. Pat also delighted in their service to the Lord as missionaries. Pat loved life and had a happy, cheerful spirit. Her first and foremost concern was always the welfare of others. She had many talents and interests. She kept her mind and hands busy. Her many quilts stitched with love will be enjoyed for years to come. Her life exemplified service and love for her family, church and community. She was a hospital volunteer for seventeen years, putting in over 4,000 hours of service. She also served as President and was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year. Her faithful church service included all the auxiliaries, Scouting, Stake Young Women Presidency, Visiting Teaching, Relief Society President and Primary President. Her involvement with her family included her attendance and support of their many activities and many years working in the PTA and other civic organizations. During the last years of her life as her health declined she never complained and most people did not know the extent of her health challenges. Mom, we love you and will dearly miss you.
