George W. Curtis "Loving Husband Devoted Father" George W. Curtis was born September 9, 1924 to William and Ilse Curtis in Salt Lake City, Utah. He died July 20, 2005 in Salt Lake City. George graduated from the University of Utah in business accounting and worked as a CPA in Salt Lake City for many years. He served in the United States military during World War II. He married Emma Andersen, she preceded him in death. He married Lois Robinson in 1963. He helped Lois raise five children. George is survived by his wife, Lois; five children, Randy, Brent, Lynn, Robert, and Mary Woolley; 23 grandchildren; and six great-grand-children; brother, Andrew Curtis; and a sister, Hellen Nypower. Funeral services will be held Tues. at 1 p.m. in the Cottonwood 7th Ward, 5565 South Neighbor Lane (1600 East). A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to services. Interment, Mt. Doermann 1934 ~ 2005 MURRAY - James Alfred Doermann, 70, died Thursday, July 21, 2005 at his home following a chronic illness. He was born July 27, 1934 in Tehachapi, California, a son of Robert and Mary E. Sanders Doermann. On June 26, 1960, James married Norma Courtright in North Hollywood, California. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many leadership positions throughout the years. He served as a temple worker at three temples for over 10 years. James was a school psychologist and a member of the California Teachers Association. He earned three PhD's throughout his life and dedicated his life to serving children. He was veteran of the Korean War serving from 1951 to 1954 with the U.S. Marine Corp. James was well traveled for the past 70 years. He was active in community theater his entire life and enjoyed acting, attending the theater, books and reading. Surviving are his wife, Norma, of Murray; one son and one daughter, David James Doermann, Daly City, CA; Teresa Kay Barnes, Ogden; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and one sister, George R. Doermann and Karlene Bovee. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Michael Doermann and one sister, Barbara Doermann. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., with Bishop's Counselor Steven Habel officiating. English, Valere Mildred Graham Valere Mildred Graham English 1933 ~ 2005 TOQUERVILLE - Valere Mildred Graham English, age 72, died July 21, 2005 at her home in Toquerville accompanied by family and friends. She was born April 26, 1933 in Union, Utah, the first child in a family of three to Floyd Eugene Graham and Mildred Ione Nelson. After a four year courtship mainly by mail as he served in the U.S. Air Force, she married Lysle R. English on Feb. 27, 1952. Their marriage was later solemnized on May 11, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1951 and never ceased to seek learning. She was always active in the LDS Church where she served in the Primary, Relief Society and Sunday School. She was an avid genealogist. As her family grew she became a Beautician and Barber and worked in many shops in different locations where they were assigned as an Air Force Family. She arranged her work to be home when the children left for school and back home before they came home. She loved to hear the door open and the words "Mom, I'm Home". She believed cleanliness was next to Godliness. She believed you should make the bed before you left your room even at motels when you traveled. She encountered many medical problems during her life but beat the Doctors predictions by 41 additional years. She loved to travel and had her share of moving with her family around the world. The family was always her top priority. After pleading with her doctor for two years, he finally allowed her to serve a Nevada, Las Vegas LDS Mission (1997-98) with her husband. She influenced many for the good, helping bring 16 souls into the fold of Christ. She is survived by her sister Tracy (Bowman), her husband Lysle and all of her children: Tynya, Lysle (Annette), Paul (Margie), Robert (Lori), Kathy (Jimmy) Scarfo, David (Michelle), Alma (Christi), Mark (Lisa); 47 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her father Floyd, her mother Mildred, her step father Don Morris, and her twin brothers, Floyd and Lloyd Graham. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 25, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Toquerville LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 79 N. Toquerville Blvd. A visitation will be held Sunday, July 24, from 6-8 p.m., and Monday, July 25, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to services at the chapel. Ison, Judith Louise Green Judith Louise Green Ison 1930 ~ 2005 SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH - Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away Sunday morning surrounded by her three daughters after aggressively being taken by Cancer, and overwhelmed with the sadness of the loss of her husband of 46 years only five days before. Born, June 15, 1930 to Cumer Arden Green and Nellie Adelaide Waterhouse in Ogden Utah. She was one of three children, brother Jack and sister Carol. After her mother's death, her father remarried and added to the family a sister LaNae and a brother Lanny. She is preceded in death by both her parents and her brother Jack. Judy graduated from Toole high and went on to the University of Utah at age 16 earning a degree in Journalism and a scholarship from the Deseret News. She supported herself working at the Ordinance Depot in Toole, Utah and had an internship at the Deseret News. On October 3, 1959 she was introduced by her brother-in-law Burt Howells to a Navy Officer on leave. On October 17, 1959 her life was forever changed when she eloped to marry her sailor in Elko, Nevada after only a two week courtship. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they created a eternal bond of love and a life which included six children, one who preceded her in death and 13 grandchildren. Judy was an accomplished Genealogist being the longest practicing Genealogist from the original accreditation class. For many years she was an editor of the Genealogical Journal and still has clients based all over the world. Her greatest joy and largest passion in life came from tracing families to their roots and reuniting families together. Judy has always been an active member of the LDS church and held a wide variety of callings in her local ward. Judy was also an active member of the democratic party and was a judge at local elections for over 35 years. Hobbies included; knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and crossword puzzles but her biggest joy came from reading books. As an avid reader she could complete a pile of library books in one weeks time and be ready for more by the next weekend. Her greatest life accomplishment came from being a wife to her beloved Willy and a mother. Sadly on July 12, 2005 she lost the love of her life Willard A. Ison who returned to his father in heaven and was awaiting his love to join him and their son Brooke. Willard and Judy's family included their six children, John (Debbie), Brooke (preceded her in death) Nellie (Dale), Stephen (Babs), Peg (Paul) and Rachel ( Charles) and 13 grandchildren Nick, Katie, Joshua, Becca, Laura, Michael, Sam, Sarah, Chloe, Jake, Luke, Hannah and Xavier. Judy's family would like to express their appreciation to all the wonderful care givers at Harmony Home Healthcare which took such time, patience and love in helping her. Jacobs, Velma Ruth Park Velma Ruth Park Jacobs "Together Forever" Velma passed away July 20, 2005. She was born in Orem, UT on February 12, 1923 to William Smith and Sarah Elizabeth Mecham Park. She was raised in Orem with three other sisters and four brothers. After graduating from Lincoln High School in Orem, she went to beauty school in Provo, UT. She met her sweetheart, Clinton Jacobs, while working at a beauty salon in Salt Lake City. They fell head over heals in love and were married April 3, 1947. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 18, 1954 for time and all eternity. Clinton passed away May 1, 2005. They owned and operated Velma and Clinton's Beauty Salon on 2nd South next to the Old Capital Theatre. After 14 years of successful management, they closed the salon. They owned and operated a 32-unit Best Western Motel for 15 years in Green River, WY. Velma served in many church callings. Velma and Clint served two LDS missions to Nauvoo, Illinois. Velma and Clint were unable to have children, but she will be leaving many loving nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Melvin Park, and brother-in-law, Forrest (Phyllis) Jacob. She was always there for anyone in need, a truly blessed mother to us all. Just like the Lord says, "I love you, and when you saw only one set of footprints, that is when I carried you." Johnson, Elaine Rose Elaine Rose Johnson Will Be Missed Elaine Rose Johnson of Layton, Utah passed on to her next great adventure on July 19, 2005 after fighting her second battle with cancer. She sends hugs and kisses to her sweetheart, Bishop Lee Dean Johnson; to her great kids, Chad and Jessica Johnson, Robbie and Sandi Summers, Megan Johnson and Jasmine Johnson; to terrific parents Doyle and Linelle Rose and Lee and Loretta Johnson; her sweet grandchildren, Dylan and Kennady; and to all other relatives and friends who helped make her life a lovely ride. Knapke 1919 ~ 2005 Frank A. Knapke, age 86, passed away in peace after a short illness July 22, 2005. He was born to Frank and Hazel Knapke January 21, 1919 in Lima, Ohio. In 1956 he married Mary Jo Bittle with whom they had two children. He attended catholic schools in Ohio and Alabama and earned an MBA at the University of Pittsburgh. He started flying planes when he was 21. In 1938-39 he trained the American Military for World War II. From 1941 he then moved to Calcutta, India to fly for CNAC. From 1949-53 he was a Air Advisor for the Indonesian Government. From 1953-58 he was a check pilot for Pan Am. From 1958 -77 he flew corporate jets for U.S.S. Corp. In 1977 he retired and moved to Saudi Arabia where he flew for the Saudi Government until 1986. Frank will be remembered for his great love of skiing and tennis. Survived by his wife, daughters Vivian Oaks and Susan (Rob) Kertesz and granddaughter Hannah. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1975 South 2300 East. I was born August 17, 1926 to Sam and Mary Bernardo. My husband, Bill and my sister Florine Smith (Jay) took such good care of me at all times. Bill and I were married in 1947 and had three children, Annette (Dan) Arnie (Barbara) and Mari (Rick), four wonderful grandchildren, Chris, John, Nelita, Nicolas, and Deena (Ryan), and our precious little great-granddaughter, Taylor. Reeve 1914 ~ 2005 Elder Rex Cropper Reeve, age 90, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family from causes incident to age, Monday, July 18, 2005. Elder Reeve was born November 23, 1914 in Hinckley, Utah to Arthur H. and Mary Cropper Reeve. He graduated from Hinckley High School and Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, and also attended the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Phyllis Mae Nielsen of Huntington, Utah, in the Salt Lake Temple February 19, 1937. They are the parents of seven children, 38 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren . . . a family which now totals 144 members with others yet to come. Sister Reeve died October 11, 2001. He was employed by Arden Sunfreeze Creameries, later known as Meadow Gold Dairy, as Purchasing Agent and Safety Director. He worked with the company for 40 years. He was a member of the Salt Lake Executives Association, and the greater Salt Lake Boy Scout Council. For his life time of service in scouting, he received the Silver Beaver Award. He served on the Board of Directors of the Holladay Water Company and the Upper Canal Irrigation Company. He also served on the Board of Directors of the L.D.S. Hospital, and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Primary Children's Hospital. Elder Reeve has spent a lifetime of service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Some positions in which he has served: Bishop, Counselor in four Stake Presidencies, Stake President, Regional Representative, Patriarch, Mission President, member of the First Quorum of Seventy, and Counselor in the Jordan River Temple Presidency. As a General Authority, he served as Executive Administrator of the British Isles and South Africa, Area President over three areas: North America Northeast, North America Central, and North America Northwest. Elder Reeve is survived by three sons: Rex C. Jr. (Barbara) Springville, UT; Roger W. (Deanne) and David A., Murray, UT; four daughters: Becky Reeve, Murray, UT; JoAnn Reeve, Rexburg, ID; Venice (Garth) Finlinson, Oak City, UT; and Barbara (Lane) Nielson, Visalia, CA; brother: Ronald C. (Aldus) Reeve, St. George, UT; sisters: Marylene Dastrup, Sigurd, UT; and Cherol Blake, Brigham City, UT. Preceded in death by parents, wife, brother, Thomas A., and grandson, Scott Roger Reeve.
