Jack O. Hanson 1925 ~ 2005 "Well done thou good and faithful servant" Jack O. Hanson, age 80, passed away June 16, 2005 with his sweetheart by his side. He was born February 27, 1925 to George Willard Hanson and Ruby Alice Hanson, in Idaho but raised in Oregon. He married his precious wife, Eva Lou April 30, 1971, later sealed in the Manti Temple with the opportunity to be Eternal Sweethearts. Jack served in the Army Air Force 1943-1946. He served in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in the Australian Mission (1946-1948) and several Stake Missions. In 1998-1999 Jack and Eva Lou served in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple Square Mission. Jack held many church positions throughout his life. He and Eva Lou were ordinance workers in the Mesa, AZ Temple and the Monticello, Utah Temple. For the last year or so Jack was working in the Bountiful Temple. He loved the temple. Jack was a professional musician from the age of 16, playing alto and tenor saxophones and clarinet. He led a seven piece band in Alaska, and at BYU he was known for his 15 piece dance orchestra which was called the "Stan Kenton of the Y campus". His musical ability on saxophone and clarinet was recognized throughout his life as he has played with some of the greats in Jazz. Although an avocation only, music was a great source of joy and satisfaction in his life. Jack played with a four piece band on board the Royal Princess, the "Love Boat" where he met Princess Diana and was in a "Love Boat" movie with Lana Turner, a special event in his life. He most recently played in Salt Lake City. While at BYU he won the Heber J. Grant Oratory Contest and was also Debate Squad Manager. He graduated in 1951 with a BS in History and Political Science. He completed his MA degree in Russian and Political Science at the University of Washington in 1953. Jack was an avid skier and at age 79 enjoyed skiing the winter of 2004-05. He loved the Rocky Mountains and particularly, their home in Pagosa Springs, CO, the most beautiful valley in the top of the Rockies. Jack's career was spent serving his country in the Central Intelligence Agency for 27 years as a Russian Linguist and Analyst, Briefing Officer, and was a CIA Personnel Recruiter for 16 years in the Rocky Mountain Region. Jack Hanson is survived by his precious wife, Eva Lou Edwards Hanson; and sons, Barry, Jeffery T., Cory (Annette), Bob (Tracy), Jeffery J. (Pam) and Jason (Amy). He is survived by nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; also his brother, Bill; and sister, Lorrayne Phair. Jack and Eva Lou's marriage was filled with love and unselfish devotion for each other. Yes, Honey, it was great!!!! Harrington, Ella Robinson (Robbie) Ella Robinson Harrington (Robbie) Ella Robinson Harrington died June 17, 2005 in Salt Lake City. She was born on Dec. 7, 1907 in Laketown, Utah, the fifth of eight children born to Lucy Barker and George Henry Robinson. She attended school in Laketown, LDS High School in Salt Lake City, graduated from LDS Hospital Nursing School in 1931, and the University of Utah in 1933. Ella worked as a nurse in the Marine Hospital in San Francisco, CA, later at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake and the Primary Children's Hospital. She did volunteer work at the University of Utah Natural History Museum and the DUP Museum in Salt Lake. Ella married Russell Taylor Harrington (Bish) on Sept. 7, 1936. They had three children. Ella will be remembered for her red hair, her sense of humor, her friendliness to those who needed a friend, her knitting and making Barbie clothes and pi ata parties. All four of Ella's grandchildren lived with her while attending the U. She was proud that they all graduated. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters, her husband, her son Russell Robinson Harrington and her daughter Ann Harrington. Ella is survived by daughter Lucy, her husband Charles Griffiths, four grandchildren: Garnett Griffiths, Linda (Allen) Saxton, David Russell Griffiths, Cheryl Ann (Ron) Lorenz, five great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Maleta Robinson, daughter-in-law Carolyn Ross and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, where friend and family may gather one hour prior to the services. Hopkin, Nan Nobley Bullen Johnson Nan Nibley Bullen Johnson Hopkin 3/18/31 ~ 6/18/05 Nan Hopkin passed away June 18, 2005 following treatment for leukemia. Nan was born March 18, 1931 a daughter of Annie Nibley and Roy Bullen. She was born in Salt Lake City and attended East High School and the University of Utah. In 1953 she went to Boston University and received a Masters Degree in Music. The next year she married the love of her life, Rulon Edward "Ted" Johnson, in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Palo Alto, California and Albuquerque, New Mexico before settling in Wilmington, Delaware where they lived for 35 years; returning to Utah in 1992. Ted died January 23, 2001. After a yearlong friendship, Nan married John Hopkin April 23, 2005. Their relationship, cut sadly short by her sudden illness, brought her great joy. Music was an essential part of Nan's life. She taught piano lessons for 22 years and began to learn the viola at the age of 30. She was principal violist in the Newark, Delaware and Dover Delaware Symphony Orchestras and played professionally for 10 years. She was also a member of the Delaware Symphony Repertory Orchestra. Recently, she enjoyed being a member of the American Fork Symphony. When her children were in college, Nan went to the Delaware Community College and received a degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology. She worked for several years in the Wilmington area as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and then went to DuPont to work as a technician doing chemical and cardiovascular research. Nan was devoted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings through the years, but the highlight of those years was her 12 years as Blazer Leader. She was a volunteer at the Orem City Library and served in the Family History Extraction Program. Nan was an avid reader and loved camping with her family in the Uinta Mountains and the Eastern woods. Each summer they went to a different national park. Gardening brought great joy throughout her life as did genealogical research and sports. Home and family were the focus of her life. Nan is survived by two brothers, Charles (Jonnie) Bullen, Logan, UT, and David Bullen, San Francisco, CA; her husband, John Hopkin, Orem, UT. Nan and Ted are the parents of six children, Bill (Elizabeth) Johnson, Anacortes, WA, Roy (Milla) Johnson, Parowan, UT, Elizabeth (Brad) Thompson, Hickman, CA, Carolyn (Rob) Ham-blin, Kanab, UT, Barbara (Richard) Hall, Irvine, CA, and Charles (Karen) Johnson, Ft. Mill, SC. There are 25 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wed-nesday, June 22, 2005, 11 a.m. in the Cascade 1st Ward Chapel, 481 East Center, Orem. Keith passed away June 15, 2005 in Kearns, Utah. Born December 12, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Vincent Joseph and Una Loy Turpin Keith. Joe was a automotive machinist loved any kind of racing, raced and drove cars, former NHRA record holder. Lived to race. Constantly helping his neighbors and friends where he was born and raised. Loved children and working with his brother, Randy, and missed his other brother, Tom. Survived by his longtime girlfriend, Bev "still no shoes"; little girlfriend, Maddy, brothers, Randy, Christy, and posse, Tom, his wife, Shannon Weiler (Keith) of Kent, WA; nieces, Caitlin Ann, Nora Loy; longtime friend, Brad Harmon. Preceded in death by his parents; and dog, Apollo. McIntyre, Lovern Kimball Lovern Kimball McIntyre 1928 ~ 2005 SANDY, UT - Lovern Kimball McIntyre, 77, our loving mother and grandmother, returned peacefully to her Father in Heaven, surrounded by her family and loved ones, June 18, 2005. She will be greatly missed by all who new her. Lovern was born February 2, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lavon Quince Kimball and Tabitha Adair. She has been happily married to William Arthur McIntyre for 57 years and on January 8, 1951 their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. As a strong and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lovern had many callings and particularly enjoyed those within the Primary organization. She also served a stake mission. She is a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and is a great great-grand-daughter of Heber C. Kimball. As a child, Lovern and her parents moved to Sacramento, California where she resided until 1965, when she moved to Visalia, California. In 2002, she moved back to Salt Lake City, Utah so her daughter, Sharon could help take care of her at Atria Assisted Living Community. She was a stay-at-home mom as her children were the most important thing in her life, but in her later years worked in real estate. Lovern is survived by her husband, William Arthur McIntyre, Sandy, Utah; children, Sharon C. (Jeff) Baty, Sandy, Utah, Leesa (Chris) Wessell, Visalia, CA, William A. McIntyre, Jr. (Rika), Tokyo, Japan, Janice (Jeff) Andrada, Visalia, CA; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. We want to extend special thanks to Atria Assisted Living Community, and to Sandy Regional Health Center, and Norma Bird for all their love, kindness and care they have given to our mother. Pett, Ethelyn Cannon Ethelyn Cannon Pett 1907 ~ 2005 After a life richly lived nearly a century, Ethelyn Cannon Pett, 97, died June 16, 2005, in Salt Lake City. Ethelyn "Et" Cannon Pett was born December 12, 1907, in Salt Lake City, to Caroline Young Croxall Cannon and Willard Telle Cannon, and was granddaughter of George Q. Cannon and great-granddaughter of Brigham Young. She attended LDS High School, East High School, the University of Utah, and the University of California at Berkeley, from which she graduated with a degree in Economics. She married James Arthur Pett, Sr., August 20, 1934. Et was a very social person who loved parties, "a friend of fun," as well as someone who regularly attended Utah Symphony concerts, chamber music concerts, art exhibits, and the opera; and read widely. Her travels took her to Mexico, Europe, Egypt, Japan, China, and Thailand. She was a commanding presence at the bridge table. She skied, played tennis, and especially enjoyed golf. Her family often heard her tickling "Tea for Two" on the piano and her homes reflected her good taste and interest in interior decoration. A member of the Town Club, the Salt Lake Country Club, the Junior League, and a study club which met regularly for decades, Et also volunteered at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Holy Cross Hospital, and then the University of Utah Medical Center into her eighties. Predeceased by her husband and all six of her brothers and sisters, Ethelyn is survived by her children, James Arthur Pett, Jr. (Marjorie), Jane Semmel (Kenneth, deceased), Stephen Willard Pett (Clare Cardinal), and eight flawless grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Karen Hodgsen and the staff of Brighton Gardens of Salt Lake City for devoted care in recent years. Sargent, Teresa Teresa Sargent 1923 ~ 2005 Our dearly loved and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother, sister and aunt, Teresa Sumsion Sargent, age 82, passed away gently on June 17, 2005. She was born February 14, 1923 in Springville, UT, to Elvin and Belle Sumsion. Married Dr. Glen Sargent in Logan LDS Temple on August 2nd, 1950. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1991. She was an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren as they grew up going to all types of events. She taught kindergarten at Whittier and Magna Elementary for 26 years. She was active in the LDS Church serving in many church callings including missions to Iowa Des Moines (with her husband), Washington DC and most recently as a service missionary in Salt Lake. Survived by sons, David, Paul (Jayne), Scott (Lynell); 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Elsie Perry, Beverly Miller, Gene (Elaine), Russell, Suzanne (Dean) Andrews, Keith (Barbara); in-laws, Ray and Lois Sargent, Norman and Nola Sargent, Buster and Donna Keyes, Louie and Myrl Vernon. Preceded in death by parents; parents-in-law, David and Lucille Sargent, sisters, Lucille (Stan) Brown, Joyce (Art) Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Fawn Sumsion, Sydney Sumsion; and brother-in-law, Reed Perry. Born February 7, 1923 in Preston, Idaho to Harry and Rosetta Jensen. She was raised and went to school through high school in Mink Creek, Idaho. Attended University of Idaho Southern Branch in Pocatello. Taught school in Inkom, Idaho. Married John Worley September 24, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. Came to live in Salt Lake in 1946. Member of the LDS Church. She held many positions in the church and has a very strong testimony of the gospel. Survived by four children, Joan Worley, Kenneth (Janice) Worley, Diane (Jamie) Howell, and Cynthia (Joe) Nay; seven grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Wyatt; and brother, Max Jensen. Preceded in death by her husband, three sisters, and two brothers. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren. They were the greatest joys of her life. Funeral services will be held Wed-nesday, June 22, 2005 at 12 noon in the Cottonwood 1st Ward, 5913 South Highland Drive.
