He was born on January 21, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Carroll Fontenelle Bailey and Laura Myrtle Mackay Bailey. He married his sweetheart, June Mares Owens, on August 6, 1946 in the Logan Temple. Their life was their family. They have five children, 25 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. Dad served in the Army Air Corps during WWII with the 479th Fighter Group. He was a radio operator and directed aircraft in the Battle of Normandy. He was awarded the American Theater of Operation Service and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbons. He was employed by Kennecott and worked in the Refinery for 34 years. Dad was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as missionary, Stake Executive Secretary, Bishop's Counselor, Sunday School Presidency, Scoutmaster, and many other callings. He is survived by his wife; sons, Alan (Claudia), Roger (Cindee), Mark (Kaye); daughters, Nancy (Matt) Rudd, Bonnie (Jim) Franc; sister, Etta Jean Beckstead and sister-in-law, Vera (Joseph) White. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister, Francelle. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005 at the Cannon 4th Ward, 1301 South 1200 West with a viewing one hour prior. Born April 26, 1933 in Centerfield, Utah to Joseph Vearl and Daisy Madsen Bardsley. Married Inez Adelza Dean on Aug. 18, 1956. Buster served in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean War. Survived by wife, three children Janet (Jay) Giles, Joyce (Warren) Giles and Ricky Bardsley; six grandchildren; one brother, five sisters and many nieces and nephews. Bird 1912 ~ 2005 NORTH OGDEN - LaVon Lillian White Bird, 92, died Monday, June 27, 2005 at McKay-Dee Hospital. She was born June 29, 1912 in Salt Lake City, a daughter of Alfred Henry and Johanna Marie Cardall White. On December 10, 1937, LaVon married Victor Alfred Bird in Ogden. He died February 25, 1991. She graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City in 1930 and lived in North Ogden for the past 53 years. LaVon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in various callings. She enjoyed camping, traveling, sewing and many other hobbies and interests. LaVon was a great mother who passed on her strength, knowledge, and support, but most of all, her love. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Alfred J. (Nedra) Bird, Frisco, TX; Kenneth R. (Paula) Bird, Roy; Evelyn M. (L. Lee) Palmer, Ogden; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and two sisters, Joseph Richard (Vera) White, Salt Lake City; Dorothy E. White Goff Mecham, Salt Lake City; Eva Marion White (D. Larvin) Pollock, Tropic, UT. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sisters and three brothers. Christopherson, Reed William Reed William Christopherson 1924 ~ 2005 Reed William Christopherson, 81, passed away June 28, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born March 4, 1924 in Spanish Fork to H. Reed Christopherson and Margaret Lawhorn. He was a devoted son and brother. Most generous and willing to help others. Served with honor in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World War II. Worked in the Fire protection industry, where he made many friends. Continuous member 50 years Sprinkler Fitters Local Union No. 669. Awarded lifetime member status. He was loved by extended family and all that knew him. Family thanks Paul Fromhold for his kindness and friendship, which Reed so appreciated. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ellen (Gary) Gabrielson; nephew, Stephan (Fayone) Gabrielson and their son Cameron; niece, Stacey Gabrielson. Davis, Cleo Fail Cleo Fail Davis 1919 ~ 2005 Cleo Fail Davis, age 86, passed away June 28, 2005 in Price. She was born Feb. 18, 1919 in Orangeville, Ut., to Fredrick W. and Vila Jewkes Fail. She married Leland Laramie Davis in May of 1940 in the Manti LDS Temple. He passed away March 1, 1973. As an active member of the LDS Church, she served in various callings, most notably as a temple missionary in the Chicago Temple. Cleo is survived by her children and their spouses; Leland Paul and Lynda Davis of Ogden, Max E. and LaRayne Davis of Price, Fredrick "Rick" and Pam Davis of Salem, Rosann Fillmore of Orangeville, 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Also survived by sister Lorna Davis and a special sister-in-law, Enid Fail as well as her beloved nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Vaughn Fail. Erickson, Elias DeLyle "Dee" Elias DeLyle "Dee" Erickson 1908 ~ 2005 Elias DeLyle "Dee" Erickson passed away on Tues., June 28, 2005 in Bountiful, Utah at the age of 96. He was born to Elias "W" Erickson and Leona Melvina Cox on Sept. 3, 1908 in Ferron, Utah; and was the oldest of four children - two brothers, Ronald K Erickson and Refell L Erickson (both deceased), and sister, LaRue Miller. Dee married Vera A Anderson Mar. 20, 1934 in Miami, FL and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They were parents of three sons and two daughters: K Duane (Thinn) Erickson, G Brent (Kathy) Erickson, Lyle Van (Jill) Erickson, Barbara (Gary) Lambert, and Julia Leah Erickson (deceased). He was a loving grandfather to 35 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Following Vera's death, he married Gladys M Lambourne, June 17, 1973. His was a life of service. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he fulfilled many callings including Branch President, Executive Secretary to five bishops, Membership Locator missionary, and temple worker for 22 years. He was the Charter Pres. of the So. Cottonwood Lions Club, and was an active member for 52 years promoting many community projects such as helping to finance "Wheeler Farm." As a volunteer at Wheeler Farm, he was a tour guide and drove the team of horses for the hay wagon around the farm. He served on the Board for 15 years. Dee loved to travel, enjoyed nature, gardening and farming, and spent time with friends and family golfing and bowling. He was especially proud of his family and pioneer heritage. He leaves us a legacy of integrity, industry, perseverance, and gratitude. We love you Dee, daddy, grandpa. The family wishes to thank the loving caregivers at the Avalon Care Center. Gasu, Talafu Leuma Talafu Leuma Gasu Together Again Talafu passed away on June 24, 2005, in Kearns Utah. He was born on October 28, 1928 in Satupaitea Savaii Western Samoa, to Talafu Pule Gasu and Uga Siona Gasu. He married Satia Manusina in 1949 and then in 1976 sealed in the Los Angeles Temple. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all his children. He had done so many wonderful things and had tremendous love for all. His loving wife passed away Feb. 24, 1999. He had numerous calling in the church, to include Branch President. Survived by 13 of 14 children, Tautalaaso, Lotuatamaiti, Pule, Taulasi, Maria, Ioane, Puaeloa, Sani, Leva, Malelega, Liaga, Samoatu and Lisa. Also survived by brother Tiafau Mataese Gasu, and 46 grandchildren and 16, great grandchildren. Preceded in death by loving wife and one son. Funeral services will be Sat. Goudswaard, Cornelia tenWolde Cornelia tenWolde Goudswaard 'Corrie' "Together Again" Our loving Mother, Oma, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at St. Mark's Hospital, surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, June 26, 2005 Corrie was born on December 4, 1934 in Rotterdam, Holland to Remmelt and Adriana tenWolde. She married her soulmate and fishing buddy, Wouter Goudswaard on January 4, 1955. Together they had seven children. Corrie was a stay-at-home-mom and worked part-time cleaning houses. The people she cleaned homes for loved her very much and she felt the same for them. She also worked part-time at the Old Dutch Store up until her first Heart Attack. Her favorite and most enjoyable times were going to Twin Potts with her family and even after Wout passed away, she would go to the trailer every chance she could, by herself or with anyone that wanted to go. She was a gracious host when anyone was there. Her and Wout's Spirits will always remain on that sacred ground. She is survived by her children, Roger, Adrian, Casey (Char), Ria and Jack. She has 12 grandchildren; Rachel, Kass, Josh, Jack (Trisha), Chris, Michelle (Seth), Shawna (Colin), Shane (Jenny), Timothy, Chelsea, Ashlee (J), Michael. She has six great-grandkids with twins boys to arrive any day; three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. She has two sisters: Thera (Tom) Booms and Adriana, three brothers: Remmelt, Wout (Sherry), Jan (Linda); her stepmother, Maria, and a son-in-law, Dave. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, her in-laws, a son, Remmie, a daughter, Joanne, a grandson, Jack and one sister and one brother. There will a Memorial Service held in Corrie's honor on Saturday, July 2, 2005 at 12 p.m. at the Willow Bay Ward, 6030 South Prairie View Drive (3500 So.), Bennion/Taylorsville, Utah. We would like to thank the medical staff at St. Mark's Hospital for the thoughtful care and assistance with Corrie and her family at their time of need. Hogan, Dimar Glen Dimar Glen Hogan 1930 ~ 2005 BOUNTIFUL - Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, Dimar Glen Hogan passed away peacefully at his home Monday, June 27, 2005, surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with a brain tumor at the age of 74. He was born on November 5, 1930 in Murray, Utah to Glen Charles Hogan and Clara Elizabeth Brown, and was raised in West Jordan, Utah on a dairy farm, which taught him the importance and value of hard work. He served an LDS mission in South Africa, and was a veteran of the Korean War. Dimar married his sweetheart, Ruth Ann Simmons on September 15, 1954, in the Logan LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by taking an Alaskan Cruise. Dimar served many different callings in the LDS Church including an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples for the last 13 years. He has a tremendous love of music and a beautiful singing voice. He ran a very successful CPA practice for 43 years and was highly respected and loved by his clientele, whom he considered family. Preceded in death only by his parents. Survived by his loving wife Ruth Ann, five Children, Dirk (Laurie) Roger, Kelly, Julie (Mike) Mills, Joni (Bob) Thomson; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, Keith, Max and Richard Hogan; and one sister, Carolyn (Deon) Crawford. Howell, Lois Jackson Lois Jackson Howell 1917 ~ 2005 Lois Jackson Howell, age 92, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Lois was born March 17, 1917 in Manassa, Colorado, the daughter to Samuel and Harriet Ella Mortensen Jackson. She married Ernest William Howell on May 13, 1950 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt lake LDS Temple. Ernest passed away in 1985. After her husband retired from Geneva Steel, they moved to Grass Valley, CA, where they resided for 18 years. Lois was an active member of the LDS Church. She served well in several church positions. She was an avid genealogist and member of D.U.P. She received a BS degree from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado. She later taught school in Colorado and Utah. She will be remembered for her love of family and her constant service to them. We would like to thank Applegate Hospice and especially Nancy Ballou, Lois' hospice nurse for her tender care, love and support of our family. We would like also to thank Dr. Steven Towner and his nurse Sue. Lois is preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and two sisters. Klein, Richard Karl Richard Karl Klein 1935 ~ 2005 Richard Karl Klein, 70, of Wallsburg, Utah, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2005. He was born February 1, 1935 in Salt Lake City to Karl August Klein and Ella Bachmann Klein. He married Gayle Wagstaff on April 25, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of six children, Jennifer (Robert) Merkley, Deborah (Gregory) Peterson, Leslie Klein, Richard (Jillyn) Klein, Heidi (Jay) Hortin, and Michael (Laura) Klein. They made their home and raised their family in Salt Lake City and Heber City, Utah. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various ward and stake callings within the Church, as well as a faithful home teacher. He served as a full-time missionary in the Swiss-Austrian Mission, and presided over the Germany Hamburg Mission and the Missionary Training Center at Provo, Utah. He served as a Regional Representative in the Utah South Area and as a member of the 5th Quorum of the Seventy as an Area Authority Seventy. He found great happiness and joy in his family, missionary work, and temple service. By profession he was a structural steel engineer/draftsman. He owned and operated the business and enjoyed the work's challenges. He especially enjoyed his association with many employees and colleagues throughout that time. He was preceded in death by his sweet companion and is survived by his six children, 23 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, his brothers, Roy K. Klein and Ron O. (Annette) Klein. Funeral services will be held at the Wallsburg 1st Ward, 494 West Main Canyon Road, Wallsburg, Utah, on Friday, July 1, 2005, at 12:00 noon. He left a wonderful legacy to his family: he was always kind, cheerful, and he never complained. He was a steady example of faith and hard work. Norman was born to Ross Tolman and Elinora Noble Larson on Dec. 6, 1942 in Provo, UT. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He earned a BA in Sociology from BYU. On Dec. 1, 1966, he was sealed for time and all eternity to Sharon Lee Gould in the Salt Lake Temple. He served faithfully in numerous callings in the Church. He is survived by his wife Sharon; his children Trent (Lynnette), Brian (Karyn), Derek (Bonnie), Janell (Jeffrey), Sharel (Danny), Kevin, Larene, and Rosanne; 13 grandchildren; and his siblings Leo Larson, Joyce Lundgren, Kathy Maughan, Reed Larson, and Raedene Blucher. Lubeck M.D., Glenn Glenn Lubeck, M.D. 1922 ~ 2005 POCATELLO - Glenn Lubeck, M.D., 83, passed away peacefully, June 28, 2005 at a care facility in Pocatello, Idaho. Glenn was born in Ogden, Utah, March 4, 1922. He attended elementary school in Ogden and Junior/Senior High School in Salt Lake City. He graduated from the University of Utah Medical School in 1945, and later specialized in Internal Medicine/Hematology/Oncology. He married Artha Wood, for time, in Salt Lake City on 14th of May, 1943, and for time and eternity, on 14th of May, 1993, in the Jordan River LDS Temple. He served in the Army Medical Corps in California for three years during World War II as a Captain. He then joined the Veterans Administration Hospital system, wherein he spent most of his career. His early career was spent in the San Francisco Bay area and in the mid-1950's he transferred to the VA Hospital in Prescott, Arizona where he was Chief of Staff. He later entered private practice in El Sobrante, California for six years before rejoining the Veteran's Administration system in Martinez, California. It was there that he pioneered residency training in that hospital with students from U.C. Davis. This later became a common practice in the Veteran's Administrations throughout the country. In 1967 he became Associate Professor of Hematology at University of California San Francisco/Davis. He served as Chief of Medicine of the VA Hospital at Walla Walla, Washington. He later transferred to the Livermore, California VA Hospital as Chief of Medicine and remained in that position until he retired in 1982, after practicing medicine for 38 years. He was known amongst his family and friends as a man with a hearty laugh, and who enjoyed talking with people. Many counted him as a close friend including his family members and neighbors. Special neighbors were the Deluca's and Goodman's. He also enjoyed roasting politicians and was just a fun guy to be with. He loved classical music, opera and all kinds of music, a love that he shared with his family. He read widely and particularly loved reading history, geology/mineralogy, and in his later years Louis L'Amour. His hobbies included lapidary and rock collecting, automobiles, gardening, and good food. He loved the fun of words and using unusual vocabulary. He was a great example as far as excellence in life. He was a great teacher of compassion. He also made great waffles and had waffle eating contests for the grandkids. Later in life he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Exactly one year after joining the church he celebrated his 50th Wedding Anniversary by marrying for time and eternity his dear wife, Artha in the Jordan River LDS Temple. He is survived by his wife Artha Lubeck, Pocatello, ID; children, Steven Lubeck, Gold River, CA; Judy Gunn, Bonita, CA; Michael Lubeck, Highland Mills, NY; Kathleen Peterson, Irvine, CA; Nancy Kramer, Carrboro, NC; and Debra Towsley, Pocatello, ID and his brother Jess Lubeck, Westminister, CA. He has 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Edith Lubeck, Santa Barbara, CA; and brother, Ernest Lubeck, Oakland, CA. Metcalf, Richard Lynn Richard Lynn Metcalf 1953 ~ 2005 Richard Lynn Metcalf returned to his Heavenly Father on June 29, 2005, surrounded by his family at home in Sandy, after a valiant battle with esophageal cancer. He showed great courage and strength through surgery and reoccurrence. He was born February 6, 1953 in Salt Lake City. He attended Highland High School and graduated in 1971. Rick was a master framer and started his own business, RLM Construction, at the age of 20. He built his own home and many other beautiful homes throughout his 33 year career. In Nov., 1979, he married Carol Parker; the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Rick loved golf, boating, scuba diving, camping, traveling, and anything he could do with family and friends. He is survived by his wife; six children, Kyle, Shelby, Megan, Ashley, and Natalie Metcalf, and Krissy (West) Withers; two grandchildren, Jayme and Sean; sister, Pam (Roger) Baker; brothers, John (Kathy), Gary (Val), and LaMar (Carol); stepmother, Ruth Metcalf and many, many friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Ruth S. Metcalf and brother, Larry. Mower, Marie Hansen Marie Hansen Mower Angel of Mercy Marie Hansen Mower, 79, passed away June 28, 2005 in Salt Lake. She was born March 16, 1926 to Bent R and Eliza A. Hansen in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. Graduated form North Sanpete High School in 1944 and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Salt Lake General Hospital on Dec. 12, 1947. Marie married Royal L. Mower on November 24, 1948 in the Manti Temple. Her employment included 30 years of nursing at the LDS Hospital and eight years of clerical work at the offices of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in the Salt Lake Temple clothing department. She served in many church callings including as an extraction missionary. Survivors: brother, Richard B. and Donna Hansen; children, Ralph and Julia Mower of Vancouver, WA; Kathryn and Lubbie Jenkins of Anchorage; Paul and Issa Mower, Thornton, CO: grandchildren, Mathew and Catherine Mower; Laura and Bert Mills; Nicholas and Kim Mower; Anne Mower, Christopher and Michelle Jenkins; Roger and Belin Jenkins,; Emily, Austin, Taylor, and Katie Mower; Marie has four great-grandchildren, Sophie, Benjamin, Zachary and Melia. Other treasured family: her cousins, brothers and sisters-in law; many nieces and nephews. Marie was looking forward to a long awaited and joyful reunion with her husband and parents among those who preceded her. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 1, 2005. at 9 a.m. at the 21st North Ward, 680 East 2nd Ave (K St), Salt Lake. Born Oct. 7, 1986, to Michael and Kathryn Sorich in Murray, Utah. She graduated with honors from Bingham High School in January, and was currently attending Salt Lake Community College as well as working two jobs. Amelia was a talented pianist, loving daughter, sister and granddaughter, niece, and cousin. She was a true and loyal friend and willingly offered her help to anyone who needed her. Amelia was kind, thoughtful, caring, dependable, brilliant conscientious and ambitious. Her sweet, gentle spirit and impish humor brought joy to all who knew her. Stenquist, Marvin Leander Marvin Leander Stenquist 1918 ~ 2005 Marvin Leander Stenquist, 87, left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at the Emeritus Estates in Ogden, Utah. He was born in Tremonton, Utah on April 24, 1918 to Eric A. and Marie Elizabeth Sedall Stenquist. He married Merle Conger of Tremonton. He later married Letha Wood Peterson of Fielding. Marvin and Letha were currently living at Emeritus. He lived and farmed his entire life in Tremonton with the exception of five years during which time he served his country in the Pacific in World War II. His farming was his pride, joy and the love of his life along with his wife and children. He attended and graduated from Bear River High School. Other than his farming, he enjoyed reunions with army buddies and their wives, dancing with Letha and their friends, golfing with friends, sons and grandsons (they could never beat him!), drives with his daughter, and visits at local restaurants (the waitresses loved his smile and charm). He loved to go snowmobiling. He served in numerous church callings. He was a High Priest at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife; his children, Leah Peterson of Roy; Patsy Peterson Tremelling of North Ogden; Darrell (Pam) Allen Stenquist of Eugene, OR; Ronald (Peggy) M. Stenquist of Kuna, ID; Robert (Shirley) Peterson of West Valley City; Delores Lori Stenquist Joyce of Hailey, ID; Rex (Kay) Peterson of Ogden; Bart (Leslie) M. Peterson of Sandy; his sisters, Erma (Raymond) Limberg of Murray; Doris Farnsworth of Fruit Heights; Selma (Elmer) Weidmeier of Big Fork, MT; Thelma (Leon) Miller of North Las Vegas, NV; 25 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kendall R. Stenquist; a brother, Leroy Stenquist; one grandchild, Amanda Stenquist. Stout, John Hyrum John Hyrum Stout 1916 ~ 2005 John Hyrum Stout, age 89, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2005. He was born Feb. 27, 1916 to Jay G. and Evelyn Stout in Spanish Fork, Utah. He grew up in Burley, ID before honorably serving his country in Europe during World War II. He came home and married Camilla Freestone in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 10, 1952. They raised their family of three girls in Kimberly, ID where he owned Stout's Market. John was noted for his industry, his integrity and his love for his family. He served faithfully in many church assignments, including many years in the Boise Temple and on a mission with Camilla. He is survived by his sweetheart, Camilla, three daughters, Charlene (Will) Stewart, Julie (David) Payne and Sharie (David) Kartchner, eight grandchildren, one brother and one sister. Swain, Athel Wallace Athel Wallace Swain 1919 ~ 2005 HEBER CITY, UT - Athel Wallace Swain, age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 26, 1919 in Park City, Utah, the son of Ephriam and Phebe Oaks Swain. He married Rhea Watkins March 22, 1944, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Athel was a lifetime resident of Heber Valley. He believed in hard work and was an example of a man of integrity. He worked as a painting contractor in Heber and later for Granite School District in Salt Lake. Athel was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings in the Heber 4th Ward. He served his country in the US Army during World War II. Athel enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with his wife and family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. And, he was never happier than when surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Rhea; children: Barbara (Dale) Hicken, Ruth (Michiel) Knight, LuAnn (Mike) Styler, Kent; sisters: Mary, Elma and Blanche; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clinton and Ray, and sisters Sylvia, ElDoris and Myrtle. The family wishes to express thanks to Vista Care Hospice, especially Barbara, Jayna, Lenny and Brandon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 12 noon in the Heber LDS 4th Ward, 176 West 500 South, Heber City.
