Allen, Joan L. (Woolley)
Joan L. Woolley Allen 1934 ~ 2005 SANDY -Joan L. Woolley Allen, 71, died March
11, 2005 in Sandy, UT. Born January 28, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Parley
C. and Penine Wrathall Woolley. Survived by son Les Gailey of Sandy. Funeral
Services will be held Wed. at 11:00 a.m. at the Broomhead Funeral Home 12600
So. 2200 W. where friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday
one hour prior to services.

Black Jr., Richard D.
Richard D. Black Jr. 1953 ~ 2005 Richard Black Jr. age 51, died on March 9,
2005 in Magna, Utah. He was born July 26, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah to
Richard D. Black Sr. and Nona G. Black. He married Kristine Walke on October
26, 1972. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother,
and uncle. He loved and shared with his family and friends the outdoors, the
high Unitah's and Yellowstone. He was a self-taught computer expert. He will
be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Kristine
Black, Magna, UT. and children, Anthony (Debbie) Black of Salt Lake City, UT,
Kasey Black of Magna, UT, and Dillan Black of Magna, UT, and six
grandchildren. He is also survived by his father, Richard Black, Sr., two
sisters, Jann (Dan) Eskelsen, Trisha (Jayson) Toerck; four brothers, Ed
(Laura) Black, Alan (Bonnie) Black, Mike Black and John Black Sr. He was
preceded in death by his mother Nona Black, and brother, Patrick Black. There
will be a celebration of life on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, 6 to 8 p.m., at
Garner Funeral Home where friends and family may gather. There will be a
memorial service Wednesday, March 16, 2005 1 p.m. at Garner Funeral Home, 1001
East 11th Ave., Salt Lake City.

Caffey, John F.
John F. Caffey 1923 ~ 2005 John F. Caffey, Sr., 81, of Pinehurst, North
Carolina died on Wednesday, March 9, at St. Joseph's of the Pines after a
prolonged illness. A memorial service was held on Monday, March 14, at the
Village Chapel in Pinehurst. Born on August 2, 1923, Jack Caffey was a highly
decorated Naval Aviator, and received the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying
Cross, and the Navy Cross. He served in World War II as a dive-bomber and
fighter pilot on the carrier USS Lexington and saw action in major military
engagements in the Pacific - at Wake, Gilbert, Marshall, Truk, Paldau, and
Saipan Islands. Jack Caffey retired in 1986 after 37 years employed by
McCormick & Company, the international spice manufacturer based in Baltimore,
Maryland. He served as the Vice President and Managing Director of McCormick's
International Division, and as a member of the Board of Directors. A native of
Salt Lake City, Mr. Caffey was graduated from Stanford University in Stanford,
California, and received an MBA degree from Stanford's Business School. Mr.
Caffey is survived by his wife of 59 years Marcella Ivers Caffey; sister
Marian C. Miller and her daughter Carolyn of San Mateo, California; son John
F. Caffey, Jr. and his wife Maria C. Caffey of Los Altos Hills, California;
son Andrew A. Caffey and his wife Nancy L. Caffey of Chevy Chase, Maryland;
son William I. Caffey and his wife Brie Caffey of Corvallis, Oregon; son James
Caffey and his wife Tauna S. Caffey of Columbia, Maryland; and seven
grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Foundation of First
Health of North Carolina, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, North Carolina
28374.

Campbell, Steven
Steven Campbell (SNIBONE) Our Beloved Son, Steve passed away March 12, 2005
from cardiac arrest at the age of 36. Too Young-Too Soon! Steve was born
October 24, 1968 to Ronald R. and Karen A. Campbell. Steve worked for "17"
dedicated years at the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel. He loved sports, especially
football; he loved his "Chicago Bears". Steve always said, "Tell It Like It
Is, Don't Sugar Coat It". Steve held no punches, his wit and humor will be
sorely missed. Steve is survived by his loving parents, several special
cousins and special friends whom he loved dearly, and they loved him in
return. He is also survived by, "The two girls that loved me most, Joyia and
Tonya". Funeral Services will be Sat., March 19, 2005 at 12 noon at Valley
View Funeral Home Chapel, 4335 W. 4100 S. The family will receive friends at a
visitation Sat. at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment: Valley View

Chung, Hwi-Ja
Hwi-Ja Chung 2/11/1982 ~ 3/10/2005 Hwi-Ja Chung left this world prematurely on
March 10, 2005 at the age of 23. Although she was a Japanese exchange student
her American family Kirk, Janet, Ryan, Randi, and Darin raised and loved her
as their own. "Tikki" as her friends called her, came to America when she was
eight years old. She attended Gunnison Valley High School and Salt Lake
Community College where she was loved by all around her. Family and friends
recall, "Tikki was always cheerful and happy. She truly saw the good in
people. An honest, sincere person, willing to give all she could and help
people anytime." "Hwi/Teruko/Tikki, our sweet, beautiful girl. We will always
love you. You hold a special place in our hearts."

Cobbley, Gordon T.
Gordon T. Cobbley 1935 ~ 2005 Gordon T. Cobbley passed away March 12, 2005 at
the age of 69. Gordon was born in 1935 to Ira and Rhoda Cobbley in Nephi,
Utah. Gordon received degrees in business and electronics technology. He was a
highly skilled Carpenter and General Contractor. Retired from the US Air Force
and Utah Air National Guard after 30 years of service. Member of the Knights
of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Theresia; daughters, Audrey Lewis
(Steve), Linda Slade (Gordon); son, Ron (Michelle); seven grandchildren, one
great-grandchild. Preceded in death by daughter, Karen. A funeral Mass to
celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, March 16th, 2005 at 10:30 a.m., at
St. John Baptist Catholic Church, 11800 South 300 East, Draper, UT. Interment
will be in the Larkin Sunset Gardens following the funeral Mass. The family
would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. James Long and the CICU &
TICU staff at LDS Hospital.

Cook, Paula Sorensen
Paula Sorensen Cook 1953 ~ 2005 Paula Sorenson Cook, began her life on
December 15, 1953 and she moved on Sunday March 13, 2005 after fighting a
valiant battle. Paula was born in Orem, Utah and raised by her loving parents,
Leland (who preceded her) and Jean Sorensen. Even through life's battles,
Paula managed to stay in contact with family and friends. She is survived by
her life-long buddy and husband Bryan Cook, who saw her through her long,
drawn-out illness; her mother, Norma Jean Sorenson; siblings: Joyce, Lydia,
Butch, Mack, Karen, David, Bobby, Billy, Connie, Carrie, Ron, and Lynn. The
people Paula loved, she loved deeply. Her life-long passion was animals of all
kinds; they were like her children and she was often found feeding the local
strays. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors. Paula was a person who danced to
a different tune and occasionally we got the privilege of joining in the
dance. Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2005 at 12:00 noon
in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the graveside
services from 10-11:30 a.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East,

Cox, Jay M.
Jay M. Cox 1918 ~ 2005 Jay M. Cox, age 86, died March 12, 2005. Born in SLC,
Utah August 7, 1918 a son of Henry E. and Martha Stringfellow Cox. Married
Marian C. Tuckfield July 6, 1942 in SLC; later solemnized in the Logan LDS
Temple. Educated in SLC schools, graduating from South High School. Attended
Utah State University. Entered the U.S. Army as one of the first 23 Utah
volunteers under the World War II Selective Service Act in November 1940.
Served over five years World War II duty with 2 1/2 years overseas duty in
England and Europe, leaving the service in early 1946 with the rank of
Captain. Served 23 years in the Army Reserve retiring in 1969 with the rank of
Lt. Col. Employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years, retiring in 1974 as
Director of the Support Staff Division of the Western Slopes District. He was
a member of the LDS Church having held many leadership and teaching positions
during his lifetime. He took great pride in his family and enjoyed hunting and
fishing in his younger years. As a senior he turned his interests to
gardening, golf, and traveling, especially loving Hawaii. He was a member of
The Reserve Officers Assoc., The Retired Officers Assoc., The National
Association of Uniformed Services, The National Association of Retired
Employees, and former member of The Federal Executives Assoc. A near quote of
his was: "I suspect I won't make it to the top of the ladder with the elite,
but wherever I do land I expect I'll meet up with a host of great friends and
relatives." Preceded in death by his wife, Marian; and sister, Priscilla.
Survived by three sons, John (Cindy), Sandy, UT, Barney (Kathy), Highlands
Ranch, CO, Dennis (Terry), West Jordan, UT; eight grandchildren, six
great-grand-children; brother, Bryant (Deone) Plato, Missouri; sister, Carole
(Bob) Carter, both of Marysvale, UT. Graveside services will be held March 15,
2005 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Friends/family may visit Monday evening at
Wasatch Lawn from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Graveside
services will be held Tuesday, 11 am. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park

Fowler, Lois Hortense (Thorup)
Lois Hortense Thorup Fowler Together Forever Lois Hortense Thorup Fowler,
devoted, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away
peacefully in her sleep at the home of her daughter on Sunday, March 13, 2005
Born October 18, 1918 in Murray, Utah. She was the fourth daughter of 14
children, born to William Wilford and Esther Elizabeth Nordberg Thorup. She
graduated from Granite High School. Later years worked at the Relief Society
Distribution Center. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. She served in many positions but especially enjoyed being
Relief Society President and Chorister of the Women's Chorus'. She loved her
Heavenly Father and the Savior with all her heart and served with joy. She
taught her family to love them also and she bore a strong testimony that has
influenced for good her extended family and many generations to come. She
loved her family dearly and was a wonderful Mother who brought her children up
in righteousness. She cherished time spent with them. She played the violin,
performed with her family orchestra and played for many Church meetings. She
had a beautiful singing voice and treated many to a spiritual feast. She was
an excellent seamstress, made wedding dresses and clothes for her five
daughters, and each Christmas made special handmade items for her family. She
loved doing family history and genealogical research. Lois married Clyde
Walter Fowler in the Salt Lake Temple on March 5, 1941. They were totally
devoted to each other. You didn't think of one without the other. In their
retirement years they did Family Record Extraction together and they were
privileged to serve in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission. She is now
celebrating a "glorious reunion" with her beloved Clyde, who passed away on
February 2, 1986. She was preceded in death by her husband; two
great-granddaughters Erin Elizabeth and Tiffany Mc Lelland; her siblings,
Wilma Svedin, Alice Forsberg, Thelma Schauerhamer Taylor, Marge Nielsen, Doris
Nielsen, Betty Loveridge, Herman C. Thorup, LuJuana Mae Thorup and Mark
Nordberg Thorup. She is survived by her six children: Genene (Martin)
Chamberlain, Holladay, Lana (Allen) Richardson, South Jordan; Betty Serona
Fowler, Illinois; Susan (Lyman) Smith, West Jordan; Clyde Walter (Stephanie)
Fowler, Jr., Sandy; and Deanne (Joe) Flurer, Sandy; 34 grandchildren; 52 great
grandchildren; her siblings, Melva Wright, Bill Thorup, Geniel (Garn)
Christensen, June (Dave) Evans, and brother-in-laws Paulus Svedin, Stan
Taylor, Ralph Loveridge; and sister-in-law, Grace Thorup. Mom has been
courageous in handling many surgeries and a great deal of pain as a result of
osteoporosis and arthritis and kept herself busy bringing joy to others. Mom
is loved and will be greatly missed, but we know that she was welcomed with
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant." WE LOVE YOU, MOM!!! The family
would like to thank Helen Rich and the staff at Sandy Regional Health Center;
Andrea, Mary Ann, and the Hearts for Hospice for their kindness and
compassion. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at 11
a.m. at the Winder 3rd Ward, 1250 E. 4530 So. Friends may call Wednesday, from
6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St. or from
10:00-10:45 a.m. at the Church on Thursday prior to services. Interment at
Elysian Burial Gardens.

Garrison, Debra-Jo West
Debra-Jo West Garrison (Bam-ma) Debra's undying love for everyone took her
down a path of silent suffering of the disease that finally became stronger
than her. She passed away peacefully, March 11, 2005, surrounded by her loved
ones. She lived life fully, giving her love to all she did. She is survived by
her loving husband Leonard Garrison; adored children, Brandon West, Sean
(Bridget) Garrison; beautiful grandsons Quintin, Scout, Finn; parents Dermont
and Rva West; Gene and Jo-Anne Washer; grandmothers Lillian West, Effie Yates;
siblings Kenneth, Randy, Marci and families; dear friends. Services will be
held Thursday March 17, 2005, 6 p.m. at Memorial Mortuary 5850 S. 900 E. In

Gerbic, Mike "Pop"
Mike Gerbic "Pop" Mike Gerbic, 86, passed away March 13, 2005 in Salt Lake
City, Utah. Born Aug. 11, 1918 in Highland Boy in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Bude
and Staka Gerbich. Married Avis Thompson in Springville, Utah in Oct. of 1946.
They were later divorced. Mike "Pop" lived for sports, especially basketball,
and he was a basketball star at Bingham High School. Family meant everything
to him. He loved to spoil his great-grandkids and talked about them
constantly. He was stubborn, loud, generous, and funny, but mostly he was
big-hearted. He loved to joke with everyone he met. He was honored to serve
his country during World War II serving in the Pacific for three years. He
retired as a boilermaker at Kennecott Copper. Survived by son, Stephen Gerbic;
daughter, Sylvia (Bert) Davis; grandsons, Jeff (Angela) Davis and Terry
(Stacie) Davis; great-grandson, Riley; great-granddaughters, Sunshine and
Heather; and great-grandson, Alex; sisters, Anna Lisnich and Dorothy Kenner.
Preceded in death by sisters, Mildred and Mary Lee; and brothers, Peter and
Robert. There will be a viewing Wednesday, March 16, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at
Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State. Private graveside services will be held.

Gibson, Vance P.
Vance P. Gibson 1949 ~ 2005 Vance P. Gibson, 56, of Kaysville, died of heart
failure, March 13, 2005, at LDS Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born
Jan. 16, 1949 in Payson to Roy E. and Emma Zoe Powell Gibson. He graduated
from Juab High School in 1967. He attended Utah State University. In 1968, he
was called as a missionary to Mexico for the LDS Church. He returned in 1970
and married Sonya Sue Sudweeks, Sept. 18, 1970 in the Manti LDS Temple. He
studied printing at Utah Technical College at Salt Lake City and then went to
work for his father at the Nephi Times-News. He and his brother, Allan, bought
the paper in 1976 when their father retired. Vance was the editor and writer.
He did much of the typesetting and job printing. He also was the Juab County
correspondent for The Salt Lake Tribune. He sold his half of the business to
his brother in 1993 and moved to Logan, where he worked as a litho-camera
operator, and then as a printer. Kidney failure forced him to quit work in
1995. He held an advanced-class amateur-radio license from the Federal
Communications Commission (call sign KB7HY), and was fascinated by computers.
He taught computer classes in the Juab School District adult-education
program. He also liked to play chess. He served his church as a priesthood and
gospel-doctrine teacher, as an assistant stake clerk, and as executive
secretary to Pres. Lowell D. Curtis of the Nephi LDS Stake. He was first
counselor to Bishop Lee Fowkes of the Nephi 2nd Ward and later second
counselor to Bishop Russell M. Seamons of the Logan 23rd Ward. He was a member
of Spencer LDS Ward and the Kaysville South LDS Stake high-priest quorum. He
is survived by his wife, Sonya; eight children, Jason V. Gibson of Nephi;
Angela Eckhardt of Spanish Fork; Allison Kelly of Mapleton; Kathy Thacker of
Eureka; Valerie Anderson of Tooele; Kevin Gibson of Syracuse; Brian Gibson of
Richmond; and Bobby Gibson of Kaysville; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Shirley
R. Birrell of Ephraim; and two brothers, Allan R. Gibson of Nephi and Daryl R.
Gibson of Las Vegas. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March
17, 2005, at the Main Street Chapel, 500 S. Main, Kaysville. Friends may call
at the chapel on Wed. from 6-8 p.m., or on Thurs. one hour prior to the
services. Burial will be at the Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi at 2 p.m. under
the direction of Anderson Funeral Home.

Haymore, Sheri Sue (Reid)
Sheri Sue Reid Haymore 1964 ~ 2005 RIVERTON-Sheri Sue Reid Haymore beloved
wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend was unexpectedly called home to her
Heavenly Father on March 12, 2005, while participating in the marathon in
Moab, UT, one day after her 41st birthday. She will be greatly missed by all.
Sheri was born in Logan, UT, on March 11, 1964, to loving parents Neil and
Voniel Reid. She grew up in a loving home with her parents, three brothers and
one sister. She attended school in Logan where she was very active in Girls
League, Orchestra, Pep Club, editor of the year book and was a member of the
national honors society. She graduated from Logan High School in 1982. She
then attended Utah State University where she obtained a degree in business in
1987. It was while she was attending USU that she met the love of her life,
Grant Wayne Haymore. They were married June 6, 1986 in the Logan LDS Temple
for eternity. They both love the outdoors and have had many adventures
together. After graduating from USU they moved to Anahiem, CA., where they
both succeeded in their professional careers and grew in their involvement in
the gospel. Their lives were blessed with three beautiful daughters, Aubrie,
Natalie, and Holly. Sheri loved being a mom and wanted to be able to spend
more time with her children, so when the opportunity came they moved back to
Utah to be closer to family and the outdoor activities they love. They built a
home in Riverton and Sheri spent her time making sure that each child had
opportunities to do the things they loved, dancing, soccer, piano, swimming
lessons, friends and church. They are surrounded by wonderful friends and
neighbors, whom Sheri loved dearly. She could always be counted on to plan a
great event and make sure that no detail was overlooked. Sheri has always been
an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has
served in many positions in Relief Society, Primary and Young Womens where she
developed cherished friendships that will last for eternity. Sheri had a
testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and a love for her Savior, Jesus
Christ. Sheri was employed by Fiero Fluid Power. She worked in outside sales
where she was very successful and loved and admired by her colleagues and
clients. Sheri is survived by her husband Grant Wayne Haymore, daughters,
Aubrie (13), Natalie (11), and Holly (7). She is also survived by her mother
and father, Neil and Voniel Reid of Logan, UT; three brothers and one sister,
Karl (Janeal) Reid of Smithfield, Ut, Kent (Robena) Reid of Canton, CT; Brent
(Ronda) Reid of Centennial, CO; and Lori (Jay) Robbins of Spanish Fork, UT.
She also leaves behind Grants family, Grant and Audrey Haymore of Hyrum, UT
and all of their families. Funeral Services will be held Thurs., 11 a.m. at
the Golden Meadows 1st Ward 12681 S. 3600 W. Riverton, UT. Friends may call
Wed. from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 So. 2200 W. and
Thurs. one hour prior at the church. Graveside services will be held at the
Logan City Cemetery Thurs. at 4 p.m.

Horkan, Richard Martin
Richard Martin Horkan "Dad" Our beloved dad and grandfather, passed away March
11, 2005 at his home, surrounded by his loving daughters, son-in-law, and
granddaughter, following a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. He was
born January 8, 1933 in Salt Lake City to John Joseph and Marie Louise Lessard
Horkan. Married the love of his life, Carol Lynn Jewell, August 29, 1952 in
Salt Lake City. She preceded him in death September 29, 1991. Dick was
employed by International Harvester and P.I.E. as a heavy duty mechanic for
more than 29 years. He also owned and operated Horkan's Garage in South Salt
Lake, where he could be found utilizing his great talent of fixing and
repairing anything. In recent years Dick spent all possible weekends traveling
to Cherry Creek, NV where he, along with his son-in-law, built a beautiful
cabin. He enjoyed many good times in the company of his Cherry Creek
neighbors. No one will soon forget "Dick on the Hill." Dick loved life and
lived every day to its fullest. He enjoyed having his large and loving family
near him. He especially enjoyed the holidays as it was another opportunity to
gather family and friends together. We will always remember Dad for his many
kind ways. Dad spent his entire life helping others. Survived by his five
daughters and one son, Wendy (George) Wilkinson, Robin (Perry) Guido, Leslie
Horkan, Cindy (Kevin) Dolar, Staci Simkins, (Dave), and James (Gail) Sorenson;
10 grandchildren; four great-grandchil-dren; three sisters, Mary, Betty, and
Katherine. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 2 p.m.
in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 1950 E. 10600 So., where friends
may call one half hour prior to the service. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.

for being a good friend and companion to Dad and for being part of our family.

Humphries, Austin Jay
Austin Jay Humphries 1983 ~ 2005 LEHI, UT - Austin, 22, passed away March 13,
2005 after a car accident in American Fork Canyon, Utah. He was born Jan. 29,
1983. Austin has gone home to his Father in Heaven, his sister Tanya and his
Grandma Humphries. From the moment he was born, he was always on the go. He
didn't want to take time to learn how to crawl so he leapt into walking and
running to keep up with his sisters. He loved his family. He went to Shelley
and Highland Elementry schools, Mt. Ridge Jr. High and Lone Peak High School.
He worked in Alaska in 2001 as a tour director. He attended UVSC before going
on his mission to the Canary Islands, Las Palmos Mission 2002-2004. Since
coming home he has attended UVSC with plans to transfer to BYU after another
summer in Alaska. He was well known for his lively imagination and adventurous
behavior from sliding down hillsides on used ironing boards to rock climbing
in the canyons. He is survived by his mother Terry, father TJay, sister
Autumn, grandfather James Humphries, grandmother Eileen Shepley, grandfather
Charles Shepley, many aunts, uncles and cousins who will remember his fun,
happy, loving personality. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 16, 2005
at 12 noon in the Highland 11th Ward, 4679 West Wasatch Dr (11200 North).
Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 E

Hunger, Olive Bernice (Keach)
Olive Bernice Keach Hunger 1917 ~ 2005 On a beautiful, crisp spring morning
Olive Bernice Keach Hunger devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother passed away from us into the loving arms of her devoted
Henry (Sunday March 13). Olive was born in Salt Lake City June 30, 1917 to
Eckley Martin Keach of Salt Lake City and Erdie McCoy Keach of Oakley, Idaho.
Brothers to Olive include the late Patrick Delbert Keach of Manatue Springs,
Colorado and Lee Mack Keach of Greeleyville, South Carolina. Olive and her
beloved Henry were married in the Salt Lake Temple June 1, 1940. Olive and
Henry are survived by two sons, David H. Hunger and Darryl K. Hunger both of
Salt Lake City; granddaughters include Alisha H. Fontenot of Salt Lake City,
and Tianna H. McDonald of Elk Grove, California. Also surviving is a
great-grandson, Jesse Fontenot of Salt Lake City. Olive for years was the
personal secretary and office manager to the Salt Lake County Assessor. Olive
also worked for years at the McKay and Burton Law Firm and the Clayton
Forebrain law practice. For years Olive was actively involved in the
Democratic Sagebrush Club and served as its secretary. Olive ran for County
Recorder unsuccessfully, but loved being involved. For years after her
retirement she volunteered at the March of Dimes two days a week which she
thought made a difference in helping those in need. Family was utmost of
importance to Mom and to the very end was actively involved in family plans. A
viewing will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive
Wednesday March 16 from 1-2:30 p.m. Graveside services will follow. In lieu of

Jones, Clarence Stewart
Clarence Stewart Jones 1926 ~ 2005 Clarence Stewart Jones of Los Altos, CA
passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 of complications of heart disease. He
was born in Rigby, Idaho August 21, 1926 and was raised in Provo, Utah.
Clarence enjoyed an illustrious career as an engineer, businessman and
entrepreneur and was instrumental in starting two companies in the Silicon
Valley, ESL Inc. and ADAC Laboratories. He also served on the board of
directors of several companies including Quantic Industries and Space Power
and held many patents. He was a devoted husband of 56 years and a loving
father and grandfather. He was active in the Los Altos Heritage Oaks Ward of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He rendered service to many
and was a generous philanthropist. Clarence is survived by his wife Meredith
Hanseen Jones; brothers R. Bruce Jones (Carol) of El Dorado Hills, CA; Jerry
Jones (Calleen) and Ronald Jones (Judy) of Orem, UT; son Randall C. Jones of
Ashland, OR; daughter Marjean Livingston (Clyde) of St. Louis, MO; daughter
Susan Garside (Blake) of Oceanside, CA; six grandchildren and three spouses
and three great-grandchildren. Services were held Saturday, March 12, 2005 in
Los Altos, CA. Friends and family will gather for graveside services on
Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery
at 1997 S. 400 E., Springville, UT. Services under the direction of Wheeler

Massaro, Lana
Lana Massaro Beloved wife & mother Lana Massaro, R.N., 64, succumbed to
emphysema on March 13, 2005 at St. Mark's Hospital. Lana passed away on the
day of her 40th wedding anniversary. She was preceded in death by her brother,
Gary Weingartner in 1982, and her father, John Weingartner in 1989. Lana is
survived by her husband, Frank, and her daughter, Mrs. Tamara (Myron)
Tanenbaum of Denver, plus her two granddaughters, Carissa Tanenbaum and Alaina
Tanenbaum, and her daughter, Tracy Massaro, of Salt Lake. She is also survived
by her mother, Evelyn Weingartner, 86 of Phoenix, her sister Mrs. Reita
Landgraf of Denver and her brother, Dr. Roger Weingartner of Santa Rosa, CA.
Lana also has three cousins in Salt Lake that are siblings, Mrs. Irene
Martina, 95, John Fenamore, 93, and Mrs. Elaine Garrier, 90. Lana grew up in
Phoenix and graduated from Good Samaritan School of Nursing in 1961. She was
the private scrub nurse for the three leading chest surgeons in Phoenix from
1961-65. She taught operating room nursing in 1969-70 at the U of U's School
of Nursing before moving back to Phoenix. She went to work at Surgicenter in
Phoenix in 1972. She started the first Laser surgery program in Phoenix in the
1980's at Surgicenter. Mrs. Massaro retired in 1994. Funeral services will be
held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100
South, where friends may call one hour prior. Interment, Mt. Calvary Cemetery,
4th Avenue and T Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
American Lung Association of Utah, 1930 South 1100 East, Salt Lake City, UT
84106. Lana's last admonition is "Don't Smoke".

Cora M. Medina 1/21/28 ~ 3/12/05 Cora M. Medina passed away peacefully
surrounded by her family. She was born in Ensenada, New Mexico. Survived by
her children, Joseph Martinez (Terry), Lori Dosen (Steve), Juan "Johnny"
(Esther), Stanley M. (Debbie), Willie (Laura), Pat Brown (Ed); 10
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and sisters, Rebecca Valdez and
Shirley Martinez. Preceded in death by her mother, Felipita Duran and sister,
Fritzi Fresquez. The family wishes to thank S.L. Regional Hospital, Promise
Specialty Hospital and Dr. Carol Mackay for the care they gave our mother. In

Miller, Geneve Bennion "Gene"
Geneve Bennion Miller "Gene" On March 14, 2005, Gene Bennion Miller died after
a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 93 years-old. Gene was born in
Salt Lake City on October 12, 1911 to Orson and Geneve Horne Bennion. She grew
up on the family ranch in Cokeville, Wyoming where her favorite passion was
riding and caring for horses and helping her dad with the sheep. She attended
Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah where she received a two-year
normal degree and then taught second grade in Cokeville, Wyoming. She married
William Fay Miller on July 5, 1934 in Randolph, Utah; their marriage was later
solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in March of 1971. Bill and Gene lived in
Murray, Utah with their family for several years. In 1947 they moved 9 miles
west of Grantsville, Utah where Bill became the Superintendent of Utah Lime
and Stone Company. Gene often commented that those years on the desert at
Dolomite were "the happiest years of our life." Bill died in 1958 leaving Gene
a widow at age 46. She returned to college, graduating from Utah State
University at the age of 52. She then taught school for The Tooele School
District and Granite School District until her retirement at age 65. Gene
taught for 22 years with love, care and concern inside and outside the
classroom. Gene was an active member of the LDS Church demonstrating "Faith in
Every Footstep" with her positive influence she had on hundreds of children
and many parents through her years of teaching her family, church and friends.
She was a member of the Grant 12th Ward (Millstream Ward) for 25 years until
her move to Tooele, Utah in 1998. Survived by children, Annette Anderson, Faye
(Bill) Ratcliffe, Bob (Kay) Miller of Grantsville, Utah; Linda (Wes) Arbon of
Salt Lake City, Utah; 14 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 13
great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marge (Eldon) Bitter, Orem, Utah; Eleanor
Spendlove, Sandy, Utah. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother
Frank, and sister Marian. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17,
2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Millstream Ward, 3400 S. 1100 E., Salt Lake City,
Utah. Friends may call from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the

Nelson, Ruth McConkie
Ruth McConkie Nelson 1919 ~ 2005 Ruth McConkie Nelson died March 11, 2005 in
Ferron, Utah of causes incident to age. She was born November 26, 1919 in
Moab, Utah the fourth of six children to William Russell McConkie and Nora
Johnson McConkie. Ruth was raised in Moab where she graduated from Grand
County High School and later from Brigham Young University. As a long-time
educator, she taught Home Economics, Physical Edition, English and Special
Education. She taught in Levan, Utah, at Central High School in Castle Dale,
at South Emery Junior High and Ferron Elementary in Ferron. Even near her
death she remembered the names of all her former students. Ruth married James
Rulon Nelson May 23, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was an active member of
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many
different callings. She loved music and sang in the ward choir for many years.
She had a great sense of humor and infectious laugh. As an avid reader, she
loved books of all kinds but especially literature, and history of all kinds.
To her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren she was lovingly known as
"Ice Cream Grandma." She is survived by her sister Norma (Jon) Kerby, Poway,
CA; daughter-in-law Barbara H. Nelson, Salt Lake City; children Monte (Jan)
Nelson, West Valley; Sylvia (Gerald) Haycock, Sandy, UT; Beth (Leon) Bogedahl,
Torrey, UT; James R. (Lynda) Nelson, Ferron; Anne (Michael) Thompson,
Richland, WA; Mark (Ruth) Nelson, Ferron; and Keith (Amy) Nelson, Castle Dale.
She was preceded in death by her husband J. Rulon Nelson, sons Conrad Rulon
Nelson and Clyde McConkie Nelson, her parents, and siblings: Wayne McConkie,
Faun Tanner, Lois Parrish, and infant brother Clyde McConkie. Funeral services
will be held Sat. March 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the Millsite Ward, 35 W. 200 N. in
Ferron, Utah. Viewing will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 18,
2005 at the Fausett Mortuary, 710 North Center, Castle Dale, Utah, and one
hour prior to services at the chapel in Ferron. Burial in the Ferron Cemetery.

Nipper, Ila May Allred
Ila May Allred Nipper 1/22/1922 ~ 3/13/2005 Ila May had a joyous reunion with
her dear eternal companion, James T. Nipper, on Sunday after a long struggle
with cancer. She was born to Carl Harvey and Daisy Bell Heath Allred in
Everett, Washington. After a courtship of six weeks she married J. T. (Nip) on
June 9, 1942. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1949. She is
survived by daughters, Linda Wilson (George), Joyce Gull (Charles), Debbie
Stacey (Russ); and son, Del Nipper (Soni); a sister, Margaret Williams; a
brother, Charles Allred (Erlene); 22 grandchildren, and 36
great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband; parents; three brothers;
and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 18,
2005, at 1 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, where there will be a
viewing one hour prior to the services. Interment, Midvale City Cemetery.

Peterson, Kip Oliver
Kip Oliver Peterson 1957 ~ 2005 Following back surgery in 1999, Kip had
numerous health problems that culminated in his death on March 13, 2005. His
greatest pride and joy were his three children and two grandchildren. He was
so pleased with each and every one and loved them all with his whole heart.
Born November 16, 1957 to Feno Peter Peterson and LaVerne Neilson, he had
seven brothers and sisters. He married Teresa Ricketts in 1982. They were
recently divorced. Kip worked at the University Hospital where he was a
supervisor in Housekeeping. He was very active on several employee committees
where he helped plan activities from the Employee Summer Picnic to the
Christmas party. He lived in Magna all of his life. He was elected to the
Magna Community Council and was an active member for several years. He helped
plan and bring about several magna Copper Days and later Magna Hometown Days.
This gave him great pleasure to have the residents enjoy the many things Magna
has to offer. Kip acquired skills in using computers which allowed him to
develop ways to help him on the job and in his community. He was responsible
for doing his ward sacrament service and announcements for several years.
Recently, he was instrumental in helping the residents of the Bennion Heritage
Center acquire computers to help them keep in touch with loved ones. He is
survived by his children, Rachel, Michael, and Megan Peterson; grandchildren,
Charity and Clayton; brothers and sisters, Judie Rogers, Millie Peterson,
Peter (Earlene) Peterson, ReNae (Dean) Duncombe, Jan Peterson, Pam (Bruce)
Kraus, and Terry Peterson; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived
by many aunts, uncles, and several cousins. He kept in touch with many family
members and thoroughly enjoyed doing genealogy. Preceded in death by his
parents. Kip, we want you to know that we will always love you, your family.
The family asks that contributions be made to the Utah Diabetic Association in
Kip's name. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thurs., March 17, 2005 in the
Pleasant Green Chapel, 8739 W. 3000 S. Friends and family may call Thursday

Richard H. Seiger 1936 ~ 2005 Richard passed away on March 8, 2005 in Salt
Lake City. Born May 6, 1936 in Los Angeles, CA to Harry Wright and Estella
Grace Harding Seiger. Graduated from Santa Monica High School and then
attended BYU where he was a member of the Tau Sigma Fraternity. Married Connie
M. Seiger, later divorced. Actively participated in the Murray Lion's Club and
scouting. Was a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA).
Life long skier and outdoor enthusiast. Survived by children, Christy (Earl)
Webster, Cindy Seiger, Richard (Mandy) Seiger, Candice Seiger and two

Sorensen, Maria Tassainer
Maria Tassainer Sorensen "Run with Mia" Maria Tassainer Sorensen passed away
peacefully March 13, 2005 at the age of 35, at her home in Sandy, Utah. Maria
succumbed to a terminal brain tumor which she valiantly fought for the past
six years. "Mia" as she was affectionately called by her family and friends
was born February 18, 1970, in Ketchikan, Alaska, to Calvin Max Tassainer and
Lynda Anderson Tassainer. Maria's father, a commercial pilot, was killed in a
plane crash when Mia was four. At the death of her father, she and her mother
moved to Utah to be near family. Maria married Algot "Big Al" Sorensen,
December 21, 1991, in the Salt Lake Temple. Al said of Maria, "she was a
'keeper,' my own true friend." She was unassuming; she loved and accepted
others, and in her short life amassed a large circle of friends. She endeared
herself to so many people everywhere. A talented athlete, Maria excelled in
many sports - skiing, water skiing, swimming, basketball, volleyball, etc.
However, her greatest skill was that of a cross country runner at Cottonwood
High School where she set school records which stood for many years. Maria was
also an All-WAC cross country runner for the University of Utah. Maria "ran
like the wind" and her two bouts with cancer were the only things that ever
slowed her down. Maria was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. She served on the Seminary Council at Cottonwood High, and
worked in various positions in her wards. She gained a testimony of the gospel
and a strong and abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. For 12 years Maria
enjoyed working at R.C. Willey in their Corporate Credit Department. Maria
also loved animals and rescued several by bringing them home to live. Al used
to welcome people to "Maria's Wild Kingdom." Maria is survived by her husband
Algot; mother Lynda, Holladay; sister Melissa Tassainer Houston, Murray; niece
Ashley Lyn Houston, Murray; grandmother Mary Peterson Tassainer, Sugar House;
grandmother-in-law June Johnson, Sugar House; mother-in-law Peggy Sorensen,
Sugar House; sisters-in law Kjerstine (Ted) Dimas, Las Vegas, Nevada;
Katharine (Mark) Bolliger, Austin, Texas; brothers-in-law Severin (Shelley)
Sorensen, Potomac, MD; and Henry (JoLynn) Sorensen, Sandy; 16 nieces and
nephews; many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins; and "Maria's Wild Kingdom" -
two dogs, four cats, and a bird. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March

Harold Gene Sorenson "Super Dad" Harold Gene Sorenson, age 73, passed away
March 14, 2005 in Murray, Utah. Born August 31, 1931 in Burlington, North
Carolina, son of Harold H. and Mary Fannie Campbell. Married Vyonne Beatty
Manning September 21, 1954 in the St. George Temple. He loved his
grandchildren. He pretended to be gruff but was a marshmallow inside! Survived
by wife, Vyonne; children: Dawn (Sepeti) Palei, Barry Gene Sorenson and
William Hans Sorenson; nine grandchildren; five great-grand-children; sister,

John Steele 1914 ~ 2005 Our source of strength left us in the early morning
hours March 13, 2005. Born October 21, 1914 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John
and Christiana Russell Steele. He married May Leon Andrew. Dad had 90 long
years filled with much joy. He loved fishing, hunting and camping along side a
beautiful running river, working in his yard, and most of all his roses and
tomatoes. He was an engineer on the Rio Grand Railroad for 42 years and lived
in Helper, Utah. Retired in 1976 and moved back to Salt Lake City with his
family. He is survived by his three children: Connie (Norm) Haney, John
(Peggy) Steele and Don (Jolynn) Steele; 21 grandchildren; 16
great-grand-children. Preceded in death by his wife, May; daughter, Karen;
grandson, Wade; brothers, Russel and Tom; sisters, Mary and Helen. We miss
you, our hearts are sore. As time goes by we will miss you more. Your loving
smile, your gentle face, no one can fill your vacant place. Enjoy fishing! An

Devern Allen Thompson "Gone Fishin" Our beloved husband, father, grandfather,
and friend, Devern Allen Thompson passed away March 13, 2005 in West Jordan,
Utah. He was born July 3, 1933 in Perry, Utah to James Mitchell Davenport and
Eva Maude Hodges and was raised in California and Oregon by his mother and
step father, Samuel H. Thompson. He married Pat Brown and they had one son,
Tony; later divorced. Married Margaret Miller November 23, 1959, they had six
children and lived in Kearns for 40 years. Devern worked for VF Factory
Outlet, Overlook Apts., and the Little Mill Campground. He enjoyed fishing,
camping, and giving everyone a hard time, especially teasing and playing
"socky-ocky". He loved playing with his grandchildren and
great-grand-children, and watching western movies. Survived by his wife,
Marge; children, Tony Ford, Susan (Cal) Perrenoud, Eva (Mickey) Stebbins,
Nancy (Kevin) Allred, Jeff (Colleen) Thompson, Jim (Leslie) Thompson, and
Robert Thompson; mother, Eva; 13 grandchildren; four and a half
great-grand-children; sister, June (Bob) Schlotthauer; brothers, Jim (Lillian)
Thompson and Gary (Gayle) Thompson. Preceded in death by his father; step
father; granddaughter, April Perrenoud; sister, Leona Griswold, and brother,
Bernie Thompson. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Memorial

Yorke, Helen Garrity
Helen Garrity Yorke 1905 ~ 2005 Helen Garrity Yorke, a former Utah
newspaperwoman and public relations director, passed away at 1:15 a.m. on
March 3, 2005, at Christus St. Joseph Villa in Salt Lake City of causes
incident to age. She was 99. Born in Salt Lake City on Sept. 9, 1905, to
Patrick Henry Garrity and Mary Lucinda Ayres Garrity, she was a graduate of
the St. Mary's of the Wasatch School. Helen married John Lester Sullivan in
1927 but later divorced. She worked for the Salt Lake Herald Republican and
for the old Salt Lake Telegram before becoming publicity director for
Intermountain Theatres, a position she held for almost 20 years. Helen moved
to southern California and in 1953 and she married Gabriel S. Yorke, a movie
executive. They made their home in Santa Monica, and Helen worked for a number
of studios including Buena Vista, Paramount and Twentieth Century Fox,
primarily promoting movie openings, a business of which she was very fond and
at which she was very good. Gabe passed away due to a heart attack in 1957.
Helen formally retired in 1971 but remained active in the promotion and
publicity field for several more years in connection with drill team programs
at Santa Monica Junior College. Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen P.
Sullivan Wallentine (Keith); one brother, Gene C. Garrity (Nola) of Seattle,
WA; four grandchildren and four great-grand-children. A private family funeral
mass will be celebrated in the chapel at Christus St. Joseph Villa. Committal,
