He was born May 16, 1926 in the Ukraine and began his musical training at age six in a school for gifted children. After surviving World War II, he graduated from the prestigious Moscow Conservatory as a soloist and teacher of viola and chamber music. He was the principal violist in the Moscow Radio Symphony and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. With Rudolph Barshai, he helped to found the world famous Moscow Chamber Orchestra with which he played for 20 years, traveling to more than 50 countries and participating in chamber music festivals in Europe, the United States and Japan. He emigrated to America with his wife Nina and son Yuri in 1978. He joined the New Jersey Symphony as principal violist after two years in New York, where he played freelance with the American Symphony, Mostly Mozart Festival, the Brooklyn Symphony, the Berlin Ballet at Lincoln Center, and taught at Waterloo Chamber Music School and Festival and the White Mountain Chamber Music Festival. He moved to Utah with his family in 1980, where he played with the Utah Symphony until retiring in 1999. He served as adjunct professor of viola and chamber music at the University of Utah until his death. A highly trained, sensitive musician, he enjoyed a long and distinguished career, winning laurels as one of the finest violists of his time. He passed on his love of music to his many students to whom he was totally devoted and who greatly admire him. They carry on his tradition of musical excellence in San Francisco, Kansas, Pittsburgh, Chile and across Europe. Misha was admired by his colleagues, friends and students for his musicianship, his generosity, his zest for life, his love of his newfound homeland, and his boundless sense of humor. No one appreciated or told a good joke like Misha did! His signature greeting on his answer machine is, "It's a free country. Say something." He is survived by his wife Nina of Salt Lake City, his son Yuri, who works at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, his sister Greta and her family, the family of his late brother, Boris. His favorite old Volvo 240 is still running. A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 24 at 3 p.m. in the B'nai Israel section of the Salt Lake City Cemetery (4th Avenue between Q and R Streets). A memorial concert to celebrate Misha's life will be held in the Dumke Auditorium of the Fine Arts Museum on the University of Utah campus March 28 at 7:30 p.m. Misha's family and friends ask that in lieu of flowers or contributions to other causes, donations in Misha's memory be sent to The Misha Boguslavsky Chamber Music Scholarship Fund, with checks made out to the Boguslavsky Scholarship Fund. Bushnell, Lessie Maggie Shelton Lessie Maggie Shelton Bushnell 1918 ~ 2005 Lessie Bushnell, 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Tooele, Utah. Lessie was born June 20th 1918 to Clemant Chapman Shelton and Sallie Elizabeth Hall and was one of ten children. She said of the occasion, "I came into this life with my best friend and twin sister Dessie. We were delivered on the front porch of our home by my daddy"! Grandma loved life and lived it to the fullest! Gardening, crafts and cooking were her hobbies. Fishing and quilting were her talents and family genealogy was her passion. Member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by two brothers, Ennis and Dorothy and her children Beverly Taylor (Delbert), Marlene Peterson (Ross), Colleen Holcomb (Ken), Bonita Burgi Fish (Mike); son in-law Bill Burgi, and Lowry Avon Bushnell M.D. (Becky). Lessie was preceded in death by seven siblings, first husband Ernest Burns, her life long love Joseph Avon Bushnell, her daughter Yvonne Melville, her grandsons Byron Dirk Melville and Zachary Ross Peterson, a granddaughter Wendy Holcomb, and finally two great-grandsons Jacob Scott Peterson and Michael Scott Middaugh. Cade, William "Bill" William "Bill" Cade 1923 ~ 2005 William "Bill" Cade, son of Oscar and Olive Cade, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away March 21, 2005. William was born in Walnut, Iowa on September 7, 1923. He married Ivy Elizabeth Barratt in January 1946. She preceded him in death. Bill married Annie Smith Seegmiller in July, 1968 and they have shared 36 years of marriage. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and also as a dedicated police officer with the Salt Lake City Police Department for 28 years. Bill enjoyed his family and friends who knew him affectionately as "Wild Bill" or "Willie". He is survived by his wife Annie, sister Bette Griffith of Walnut, Iowa, son Scott of California, step-children: JoAnn Reiser, J. Richard Seegmiller, Judy Jacobson and John C. Chantry, Ruth Ann Laird Ruth Ann Laird Chantry 1926 ~ 2005 Ruth Ann Fuller Willcox Laird Chantry passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2005 from complications of Parkinson's disease. Ruth Ann was born on May 11, 1926 in Alberta, Canada. She completed her RN degree at the University of Utah. Her marriage to Alfred Willcox took her to Long Island, NY. She returned to Salt Lake. Later married M. C. Laird and moved to San Diego, CA. They returned to Salt Lake where she was a long time resident until her death. Ruth Ann will be missed by her those who survive her - daughters Carolyn Willcox (Douglas) Burtard of Centennial, CO; Randelle Willcox (Michael) Harmon of Salt Lake City, UT; son Gary (Mary) Willcox of Cincinnati, OH; and stepdaughter Marlene Laird (Paul) Griner of Windsor, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband Millard Charles (M.C.) Laird and her sons Eric Willcox and Scott Allen Willcox. Dalby, Max Foreman Max Foreman Dalby 1920 ~ 2005 SALT LAKE CITY - Max Foreman Dalby, 84, died March 20, 2005. He was born in Driggs, Idaho, August 22, 1920, to Cleon Ezra Dalby and Ethelwynne Griggs. He married Betty Marler on December 18, 1941. She died in 1992. He married Marjorie West Crow of Palisade, Colorado, later that year. Max spent his childhood in Idaho, Western Colorado, and Salt Lake City, graduating from West High School in 1938. He received a bachelors degree from Brigham Young University, a masters degree from San Diego State University and an Ed.D from Utah State University. He was the principal clarinetist in the early years of the Utah Symphony, and during three years of military service he conducted the 249th Army Ground Forces Band in the Canal Zone, Panama. Max was the instrumental music director of the San Diego Diocese School System, 1946-1950; Cyprus High School, Magna, Utah 1950-1951; Ogden High School, Ogden, Utah 1951-1955; and Weber College, Ogden, Utah 1955-1957. From 1957 to 1985, Max served as a faculty member at Utah State University. While there, he was coordinator of music education, director of bands, head of the music department, conductor of the USU Symphony Orchestra, co-founder and conductor of the Cache Chamber Orchestra, and founder and conductor of the USU Alumni Band. Max received the Distinguished Service Award from Utah State University, and in 1994, was named Utah State's "Alumnus of the Year." He has served as president of professional organizations, and as conductor, clinician, and adjudicator in 25 states, Canada, and Europe. Throughout his career, Max gave thousands of private music lessons. Max is survived by his wife Marjorie; children: Diana Edvalson, Ogden; Kim (DaNaze) Dalby, Bluffdale; Jonathan Dalby, Ft. Davenport, Iris Iris Davenport "For Eternity" Iris Myrtle Hughes Parsons Davenport, born July 27, 1925 in Oakdale, Monmouthshire, U.K., returned to her Father in Heaven, as well as her lifetime sweetheart and eternal partner, Bert, on March 21, 2005. She was a vibrant, caring, loving mother, sister, friend and companion. She enjoyed traveling, reading, making beautiful gifts with her hands and loved the Jazz. She was an active member of the LDS Church where she loved serving in the Jordan River Temple with her husband. Survived by daughters: Judy D. Brown, Rhonda M. (Craig) Williams; son, Ronald V. Published in the Deseret News on 3/22/2005. Dittmar, Else Else Dittmar 1911 ~ 2005 Else Dittmar, age 93, passed away on March 17, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah of natural causes. Else was born to Ernst Heinze and Emma Bogisch Heinze on December 21, 1911 in the hamlet of Benau, Germany. Growing up as the youngest daughter of a merchant, she experienced many of the finer things of life in her youth. In 1934, she married Walter Louis Dittmar, who was also a merchant, in Gassen, Germany. They had three children before World War II interrupted their family life when Walter was drafted into the Luftwaffe and was absent for most of eight years. During this time, Else safely guided her three children through the intense fighting of the Russian front. With great determination and strength, she learned to live under the Communist destruction. To survive as refugees, she used her education as a hair stylist and traded hair styling for food for the family. In 1948, Walter returned from the war and they soon found the means to escape communism and hardship by crossing through "Checkpoint Charlie" into West Germany. The family settled in the North Sea coastal town of Wilhelmshaven, and later immigrated to the United States in 1956. As she began a new life in a new country, Else again used her hairstyling profession to help provide for the family. For many years, she kept her Salt Lake City German friends looking and feeling special. She is loved by her posterity, and in the German tradition has spent the last 10 years living in the homes of her two sons and their families, alternating between them from time to time. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Louis Dittmar; her brother, Kurt Heinze; her daughter, Isolde Carlsen; and her son, Bo Walter Dittmar. She is survived by her son, Edbert E. L. (Pamela) Dittmar; daughter-in-law, ReNae Dittmar; son-in-law, Stanley Carlsen; 12 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. Joy R. Forsyth 1913 ~ 2005 BICKNELL, Utah - Emma Joy Rasmussen Forsyth, age 91, died March 19, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born March 21, 1913 in Thurber, Utah, a daughter of Cyrus Orsen and Christena Jensena Nielsen Rasmussen. She married Oral Venard Forsyth, December 2, 1934 in Bicknell, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, March 19, 1936. Oral preceded her in death on September 21, 1990. Joy was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in all the Auxiliaries. She and Oral served a mission to the Manti Temple. They loved to square dance and served as the Thurber Ward Dance Directors. She was a member of the DUP, Camp Thurber. Joy was an excellent cook and homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting and embroidery work. In Bicknell, she worked for the school lunch program, as the Post Mistress, as a cook in the cafe and at the boy's ranch. Joy had many wonderful friends in Wayne County. Joy is survived by her children: Neil R. and Anna Mae Forsyth, Reno, NV; Keith O. and Ramah Forsyth, West Jordan; Don V. and Bonnie Forsyth, West Valley City; Carolyn and Kenneth Turner, Price; Gwen and Clare Wardle, Midvale; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sisters-in -law: Faun Fordham, Taylorsville; LaRue Rasmussen, Loa. Hadley, ReNell ReNell Hadley "Our Angel Wife, Mother & Grandmother" ReNell passed away on Sunday March 20, 2005 at 6:50 p.m. at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center after a long courageous battle with breast cancer and other complications. ReNell was born to Reynold and Eliza Robinson on November 30, 1937 in Afton (Star Valley) Wyoming where she spent her growing up years bucking hay, driving the tractor and feeding the livestock on her parents cattle ranch in Freedom, Wyoming. She graduated from Star Valley High School where she was a cheerleader and Rodeo Queen and then moved to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University where she was involved in many student activities. ReNell graduated from BYU in 1957 in Elementary Education and accepted her first teaching assignment in Tarzana, CA. It was here that she met Ron Hadley who had also graduated from BYU and was working there with Qantas Airways, Australia's overseas airline. They met at the Hollywood and Wilshire LDS wards and later courted cross country after ReNell had accepted a teaching position in the Washington D.C. and Virginia area. In 1963 ReNell and Ron were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple and spent their honeymoon in Ron's beloved South Africa and Zimbabwe where he had served his LDS mission. Everywhere they traveled and lived from Africa to Europe to Japan, California, Ohio and Georgia. ReNell made friends who were immediately attracted to her physical beauty and her most beautiful spirit. She was a woman without guile. For the last 35 years ReNell and Ron have lived in Bountiful but due to ReNell's health condition they moved to Alpine in 2004 to be closer to children and grandchildren who were helping take care of her. ReNell was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and showed her deep love of the Lord by her daily acts of Christ-like love, charity and thoughtful service to her children, grandchildren, friends and strangers. She is survived by her husband Ron, daughter Alisha (Terry) Ferrell, son Sharif (Danielle) Hadley, daughter Sherina Hadley also nine grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters June McGavin and LaNea Adams and her brother Dean Robinson. Johnson, Phyllis Boyack Phyllis Boyack Johnson 1915 ~ 2005 POCATELLO- Phyllis Boyack Johnson, 89, quietly passed away Friday, March 18, 2005, at Portneuf Medical Center after a brief illness. Her family was by her side. Phyllis was born in August 19, 1915 in Spanish Fork, Utah, the daughter of Sylvanus and Hilda Fredricka Boyack. Her family moved to Lost River, Idaho where she spent most of her childhood helping on the family farm. After graduating from high school in Moore, she attended LDS Business College and worked at the Utah State Capitol for the Department of Education. Education was extremely important in her life and she encouraged her children, grandchildren and great-grand-children to get all they education they could. She also founded scholarships at Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College. Friends set up Phyllis and Vard Hayes Johnson on a blind date and they were married on September 9, 1946 in Idaho. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple March 22, 1951. After marriage they lived in Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. They settled in Palo Alto, California where she lived for 50 years. She spent the last two years of her life in Pocatello to be close to family. Phyllis and her family spent summers traveling the United States for Vard's geological work. She and Vard loved to travel and visited Germany, Galapagos Islands, Machu Pichu, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Fuji, England, Spain, Portugal, Canada, and almost all 50 states. Phyllis was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Primary, Relief Society and Sunday School and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and enjoyed family history work. Phyllis had a life long love of books and education. She also loved her garden in California. She is survived by her twin daughters Carma Ono of Salt Lake, Utah and Karen White (Boyd) of Pocatello, Idaho; her sister Beryl Young, of Blackfoot, ID; her brother Ray (Joyce) Boyack of Moore, ID; her brother-in-law Kenneth Gisseman of Salt Lake City, UT; her three grandchildren Cheryl (BJ) Blinston of Queen Creek, AZ; Christine (Brett) Houghton of Lehi, UT and Brian (Sandy) White of Provo, UT; by her eight great-grandchildren Ali, Brittany, Adison, Cooper, and Caitlin Houghton and Levi, Ellie, and Samuel Blinston; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was born on April 24, 1928 in Hiwatha, Utah to Michael Kolovich Sr. and Julia Svilar Kolovich. He married Phyllis Worthen on April 18, 1957 in Price, Utah; marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He is survived by his children, Julia, Karen, Kent (Leslie) Kolovich; granddaughters Maddie and Olivia Kolovich; brother Eli Kolovich and sister Jennie Colosimo. Preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, sisters Mary and Millie, brothers Joe and Jim. Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mike served in the United States Army. Mike was employed by and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Mike's passions in life were his family, gardening, nature, supporting the interests of his children and grandchildren. Mike loved people. Mike served as an interpreter for the U.S. Special Olympics. Linford, Raymond McDonald Raymond McDonald Linford 1958 ~ 2005 Raymond McDonald Linford, age 46 of Lehi, died peacefully at his home following a sudden illness on March 20, 2005. He was born Aug. 11, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of Duane Hodges and Mary Ellen McDonald Linford. He married his high school sweetheart, Verlyn Kevern, June 5, 1976 and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Ray played football for Granite High School and BYU. He was owner and partner of Linford Brothers Glass Company and Peak Profile. He served in the LDS Church as a counselor in several bishoprics, in the Young Men's program, and a Sunday School teacher. He assisted as a football coach for Lehi High School. Saunders, LeRoy E. LeRoy E. Saunders 1917 ~ 2005 NIBLEY- LeRoy Elmer Saunders, 88, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away due to causes incident to his age, March 20, 2005. LeRoy was born January 3, 1917 in Greenville, Utah, the fifth of 14 children born to Willard Gimbert and Kirstiana Andersen Saunders. Raised in Benson, he graduated from North Cache High School, and later married Helene Elizabeth Olsen in the Logan Temple, November 23, 1938. The parents of seven children, they have spent nearly all of their married life living in Nibley. LeRoy was known to all as an industrious worker. During World War II, he supported the war effort by working at the Ogden Arsenal. After the conclusion of the war, he joined with a brother in a farming operation, raising a variety of row crops, a small dairy herd, and later developing a successful mink ranching operation. Many Cache Valley youth earned their school money each year picking beans in the Saunders pole bean fields through the 1960's and early 1970's. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as a rural route carrier to the farming communities in the southwest part of the valley until his retirement. He was an accomplished gardener, and raised a large and abundant garden, which he shared with all the neighbors. He loved to fish, and truly enjoyed the time he spent fishing in local rivers, streams, reservoirs and irrigation canals. He also served as a "Santa's Helper" for many years, bringing joy to the faces of little children each holiday season. LeRoy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in a variety of callings, including bishop's counselor, priesthood presidencies and group leadership, and for many years as Scoutmaster of Nibley's Troop 28. In 1984, he and Helene fulfilled a life-long dream when they were called to serve in the California San Diego Mormon Battalion Visitors Center Mission. After the conclusion of their mission, they gave many years of service as officiators in the Logan Temple. LeRoy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helene, and six of their children: Yvonne (L.R.) Earl, River Heights; Kathryn (M. Don) Larsen, Smithfield; Karren (Richard) Farnsworth, Boise, Idaho; Janet (Quin) Pinson, Farmington; Vincent (Ann) Saunders, West Jordan; and Victor (Kelley) Saunders, Providence; a foster son, Rod (Jo) Velarde, Dulce New Mexico; 23 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five siblings, Dorothy (VerNon) Petersen, Smithfield; Donna Naylor, Logan; Merlin (Venna) Saunders, Benson; Carroll ( J. Darwin J Sorensen 1920 ~ 2005 Darwin J Sorensen, 85, passed away March 20, 2005. He was born February 26, 1920 in Smithfield, Utah to Joseph Edgar and Gwen Griffiths Sorensen and grew up in Salt Lake City, graduating from West High. This was followed by service on a full-time mission to California for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after which he volunteered for military service and spent the duration of World War II. from 1942-46 in the Army Air Corps. He married his sweetheart, Louise E. Keiser, in the Salt Lake Temple July 21, 1943. Together they raised four children. Their children and grandchildren were very important, bringing them great happiness and peace. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church whose faith and testimony were reflected in the many hours of service he rendered. He was employed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints until he retired in 1984. He was an avid reader who loved to learn and imparted this love to his children. We are comforted knowing she is being greeted and cared for by those of the family waiting on the other side of the veil. Born on December 20, 1996 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Holly was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, which became a unique and special blessing to everyone. Every day of her life she brought joy and love to her family and those who knew her. Each of us were often lifted in spirit with her special smile. She had a way of penetrating the heart. Light and love emanated from her as an aura. Twitchell 1921 ~ 2005 CANNONVILLE, UTAH - Desmond Loren Twitchell, 83, of Cannonville, Utah, passed away early in the morning of March 21, 2005. He was born July 20, 1921 in Cannonville to Loren Elroy and Ethel Tyler Twitchell. He married Gretha Henderson on April 25, 1942 in the St. George LDS Temple. Desmond served his country in the Army during World War II in Europe. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in various church callings. Along with his wife, he was an ordinance worker in the St. George Temple for eight years and they served a mission together in the Toronto Canada Temple from 1994 to 1996. He loved his family and enjoyed farming; he had a great love for animals. He managed the Escalante Stake Welfare Farm for eight years.
