Bradshaw, Karen Louise Lee Karen Louise Lee Bradshaw 1933 ~ 2005 Separated for a moment Karen Louise Lee Bradshaw died in Salt Lake City on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Logan, UT on December 12, 1933 to Lawrence and Donna Benson Lee. Her mother said that Karen was a very happy and cheerful child with a quick and active mind. She exhibited this cheerfulness throughout her life even during her mental decline. Karen's growing years were spent in small towns of Southern Idaho, Western Wyoming and Northern Utah as her father looked for a small farm to supplement his high school music-teaching career. The family eventually settled in Vernal, UT where Karen graduated from Uintah High School in 1951. Karen entered the University of Utah that year, and met Jerald Sherwin Bradshaw, her soul mate and eternal companion, in the high-stepping U of U marching band. She transferred to Utah State University and graduated in Elementary Education, before her marriage to Jerald in the Logan LDS Temple on August 6, 1954. She taught first-grade or kindergarten in 1954 - 1957 in Salt Lake City, in Alameda, CA and in Washington, DC. After Jerald finished a tour of duty in the US Navy in 1959, Karen and Jerald moved to Southern California for Jerald's graduate education at UCLA. Karen earned a Master's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Library Science at UC Berkeley in 1966. (Karen was thrilled when her granddaughter, Karen Webster, became a student at Berkeley in 2002.) The family moved to Provo in 1966 when Jerald joined the Chemistry Faculty at the Brigham Young University. Karen became a superb homemaker in her home on Oak Lane so that everyone in the family called her "Mrs. America." She delighted in preparing gourmet meals for two, four or 20 people. For over 25 years, she prepared a special Sunday evening dinner every week for all her family including her mother and all her nephews attending BYU. Often, children and grandchildren of other relatives joined these festive times. Karen also loved to prepare yearly gourmet meals for members of Jerald's research group and their partners. Those dinners were much enjoyed by the young BYU students. Karen became one of the most accomplished quilters in Utah Valley. All members of her extended family and friends of her daughters are enjoying that "special quilt" which Karen made especially for them. She started quilting in 1955 when Jerald was aboard ship in the Pacific. Their apartment at UCLA during the 1959 - 1962 years was so small that they opened the front door and crawled under the quilt in progress to enter their front room. Three of Karen's quilts earned high honors - "Best of the Show" and "Blue Ribbon" at the Utah State Fair and "Best of the Show" at the Utah County Fair. Karen also created many pieces of art and jewelry for friends and family over the years. She painted beautiful ceramic Nativity figures for herself and her siblings along with a 50-piece Christmas village that she enjoyed each Christmas season. Karen enjoyed traveling to chemistry meetings and universities throughout the world with her husband. Their travels took them to Ljubljana, Slovenia; Sheffield, England; and Townsville, Australia for extended stays while on Sabbatical leaves. Their daughters and granddaughters accompanied them on many of their travels. They traveled extensively through Europe, Israel, Japan, China, New Zealand and Australia. Karen would read travel books on the places they would be going so she could see all the interesting sites while Jerald was busy lecturing. Even though she enjoyed all her trips, she always said the best part of traveling was entering Utah Valley on the way home. Activity in the LDS Church was the most important part of Karen's life. She was particularly active in Relief Society especially in the homemaking area. She was ward homemaking counselor or work director in nearly every ward in which she lived. She was Ward Relief Society President twice and Stake Homemaking Counselor for five years. She greatly enjoyed working with the women of the wards and stake. Karen is survived by her husband, Jerald, daughters Donna Maree Webster of West Jordan and Melinda Caroline Waterman of Salt Lake City, granddaughters Karen Marlene Webster of Berkeley, CA and Amber Melinda Webster of West Jordan; her brother Lawrence B. Lee and his wife Marilyn, of Orem, sister Patricia Fae Russell and her husband Bob, of St. George, and brother-in-law Larry Hartman and his wife Diane of Springville, and by many members of her extended Lee and Bradshaw families. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Zetta Hartman and niece Ticia Lauri Hartman. The Bradshaw family wishes to thank the capable and caring medical staff at CareSource for their loving care of our beloved wife and mother. Funeral services for Karen will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at the Oak Hills Fourth Ward Chapel, 925 E. North Temple Drive, Provo, UT. Peterson, 76, passed away March 24, 2005 in Juab County from injuries sustained in a automobile accident. Marvin was born December 9, 1928 in Glenwood, Utah to Marlin Magregor and Viola Lucinda Staples Peterson. He married Olive Ethel Taft on July 9, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on August 14, 2004. Marvin's life of service started early, as he was the oldest boy in a family of seven that lost their father prematurely. He and the other older children were left with the responsibility of providing for the welfare of the family. That gift of love will not be forgotten by all of the Peterson generation now and in the future. Marvin was dedicated to the Mountain Bell Telephone Company. He was known as "The Telephone Man" and installed telephones in most of the homes in Sevier, Piute and Wayne Counties before his retirement in the early 80's. He and his brother, Owen, truly did "light up our lives" as they wired and lit most of the homes in the family. Marvin found his greatest joy helping family and friends roof a home or wire a basement. Few, if any people were able to re-pay Marvin for the service he gave them freely. His love of service for others was only matched by his unconditional love of his family. He left his sons and families an example of honesty and character for them to follow in life. We love you and will look to your example for help in times of need.
