Jared R. Alcorn "Shaggy" Our beloved son, Jared R. Alcorn died tragically on April 30, 2005. Born Dec. 9, 1983, son of Wendell Alcorn and Patricia Martinez. Jared was fun, loving, energetic and vibrant. He had many friends and could win you over with his smile, easy going attitude and humor. His friendship was treasured by many and will be missed. He loved basketball, music and riding wave runners. He attended West Lake Jr. High and Granger High School. He was employed in construction doing concrete foundations and painting part time. He was known as a very hard worker. He enjoyed being with family and friends and was dearly loved by his sister and younger brothers. Preceded in death by his Grandfather Rupert and Uncle Earl. Beardall, Dawn Duffin Dawn Duffin Beardall 1916 ~ 2005 Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Dawn Duffin Beardall, 89, passed away May 1, 2005. Dawn was born March 3, 1916, in Logan, Utah, to Clarence Duffin and Jennie Barlow Duffin. She married John Woodville Beardall on June 19, 1935, in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away June 8, 1997. Dawn spent a lifetime serving others. She was a homemaker, a librarian at the Scera Park Elementary School in Orem for 16 years, and taught piano lessons for over 25 years. She was active in the LDS Church; even up to the end, doing extraction work in her home and serving as a visiting teacher supervisor. She taught in Primary, Mutual and Relief Society and also served as Primary and Relief Society President. She was also a ward librarian for eight years. She belonged to the Alethian Club in Salt Lake City and Paideia Sorosis in the Provo-Orem area. Her hobbies were genealogy, reading, and making quilts and afghans. She is survived by her children, W. Lee Beardall, Carol (Jerry) Billings, Bonnie Wright, and William C. (Sheryl) Beardall, 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, with one more expected soon. She is also survived by brothers and sisters, Allese (Paul) Vestigo, C. Harlow (Marjorie) Duffin, B. Keith Duffin, G. Richard (Betty) Duffin, and Sharol (Grant) Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband Woodie, son David, parents, Clarence and Jennie Duffin, brother, Robert B. Duffin, two grandsons, Jeffrey Brey and Mark Brey, one great-granddaughter, Vanessa Wright and sister-in-law, Ruth Duffin. Bessinger, Max Max Bessinger 1943 ~ 2005 KAYVILLE, UTAH - Max Bessinger, 61, a great man passed away due to a heart attack on a beautiful Sunday morning, May 1, 2005. Max was born December 16, 1943 in Tremonton, Utah. He was the son of the late Albert Bessinger, Jr. and Faye Beth Holland Bessinger. Max married Mary Susan Barlow of Clearfield, Utah on December 4, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple. He attended Bear River High School and graduated from Utah State University in 1971 with his MBA. He served a LDS mission to London England from 1962 to 1964. He spent a year at Fort Dix, New Jersey before he served in Vietnam during 1970 and 1971. Max was an active member of the LDS church and served faithfully in his church positions. He loved to hunt, fish, and play sports. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Allen J Blackner 1927 ~ 2005 CEDAR CITY, UT - Allen J. Blackner 77, died May 1, 2005 in Cedar City. He was born November 28, l927 in Beaver, Utah to Allen James Blackner and Ethel Baldwin Blackner. He married Mary Ann Yelton in Boise, Idaho later divorced. Married Betty Jean Brinkerhoff Sept. l6, l982. She Preceded him in death Dec. 22, 2003. Allen enlisted in the U.S. Navy in l946 after graduating from Beaver High School where he took a prominent part in Athletics and other school activities. His career in the Navy took him to many Countries throughout the world. He saw active duty in Kodiak Alaska, Japan, Philippine Islands, and he served as the US Naval Attach at the Moscow USSR Embassy. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in l966. He received many commendations while serving his country. After retiring Allen spent several years in administration positions in Boise Idaho. Served as secretary/club manager of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. After moving to Cedar City he worked as sales representative for Century Equipment Co. And was House Manager for the Cedar City Elks Lodge for two years. He worked as the Administrative Office with the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah in Cedar City. His duties With the tribe included not only the managing of government grants and contracts but the day to day operations and management of a large tribal staff. Allen was happiest when he was in the mountains hunting and fishing with his son Bob and weekend camping with his and Bettys friends. He enjoyed the evenings he spent around the camp fire with his brother Ken and his nephews at the deer camp. He is survived by his son Bob (Barbara) of Cedar City and his grandchildren Cody and Alycyn. Two brothers Ken Blackner (Carol) of Cedar City and Gary Blackner (Jane) of Tacoma, Washinton. Also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents a brother Ronald and sister Mary Lou. Burningham, Joshua David Joshua David Burningham 1982 ~ 2005 Josh passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 30, 2005. Josh loved sports and was a huge Yankees fan. He was "born with a ball in his hands". He had a keen sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He was always trying to make others happy. Josh loved children and will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews. Josh, we will miss you so much and will never forget your special spirit. Clements 1920 ~ 2005 Our loving mother, Fern K. Clements, passed away Sunday May 1, 2005 due to injures resulting from an auto accident. Fern was born July 6, 1920 in Orem, Utah the daughter of Charles and Nora Keeler. She married her sweetheart Malan H. Clements on June 11, 1938. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Fern lived in American Fork for 68 years with her husband and family. She served in many callings in the LDS Church. She worked for 15 years at the Utah State Developmental Center. She was cherished and beloved by all with whom she came in contact. Survived by her children, Judy (Harold) Turner; Sherri (LeRoy) Schear; Michael (Cherie) Clements and Connie Harwood; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister Nina Warburton and a brother Grant Keeler. Davis, Phyllis Phyllis Davis 1935 ~ 2005 Phyllis Maureen Waite Davis, dearly loved wife, mother, step-mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on May 2, 2005 at the age of 69. She was born on October 15, 1935 to Winifred Tetley and George Waite in Los Angeles, California. Phyllis was raised and lived in southern California until she moved to Bountiful, Utah with her family in 1968. In 1995 she moved to St. George, Utah and resided there until she returned to northern Utah and settled in Syracuse in 2002. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Keith Joseph Davis; children Carrie Hall, John (Michelle) Hall, Scott (Jane) Hall, Kelley (Kathy) Hall, and Chad (Jennifer) Davis; step-children Keith (Cheryl) Davis, David Davis, Steven Davis, John (Sue) Davis, James (Celia) Davis, Alan Davis, Gary (Wendy) Davis, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Gladys Overson; and niece Connie Powell. He has accepted the above position (was hired with many references). Born August 7, 1920 in American Fork, Utah to George Heber and Maude Lowe Hansen. Clifford married his soul mate, Beth Clark on January 14, 1942 in the Logan LDS Temple. Beth passed away January 28, 2004. He resided in Shiprock and Kirtland, New Mexico from 1956 to 1990 and thereafter in North Salt Lake, Utah. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Clifford served untiringly in many positions including, Bishop, Branch President, Counselor in Stake Presidency and in the Southwest Indian Mission Presidency and many other teaching and leadership positions. Clifford founded a Training Farm for the Navajo Tribe in Shiprock turning desert into farmland and teaching hundreds of Navajo Indians farming. He later taught Vocational Agriculture in the Shiprock and Kirtland High Schools. Clifford was known for his mechanical abilities and handyman capabilities no matter what the project. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. A descendent of John Browning, Clifford was an expert marksman who passed his love of firearms on to his six boys. He wrote several articles for shooting magazines. Clifford loved to sing with his lovely wife Beth. They sang duets for many public functions. He enjoyed gadgets, collecting radios, working on cars and whatever needed fixing. He left a legacy for his family and was an example to all, caring for his wife of 63 years in her many years of sickness. Preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters, Mildred (Ericksen) Hansen, and Laura (Porter) Hansen. Hill, Anne Anne Hill 1943 ~ 2005 Our beloved wife, mother, sister, and aunt, Anne Hill, age 61, died April 30, 2005 at her home in West Valley City. She was born May 26, 1943 in Dibbel, Lebanon to Samuel and Mariam Howa. Anne came to the US with her family at the age of three. She married Stephen Wayne Hill on October 12, 1963 in Salt Lake City and during the course of their 41 year marriage had three children. She was employed with the Granite School District for 23 years where she enjoyed serving the countless children in her care everyday until her retirement in July of 2003. Anne enjoyed cooking, watching old movies, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Stephen; three children, Connie, David, and Debbie; three brothers, George, Ray, and Fred, all of Salt Lake City; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Samuel and Mariam, and three brothers, Abe, Ronnie, and Michael. Hurdsman, Darlene Ruth Darlene Ruth Hurdsman (Abramowski) Our beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, auntie, and friend passed from the loving arms of her husband into those of her Savior April 30, 2005. Darlene Ruth Abramowski Hurdsman, 61, endured many years with numerous illnesses. She is finally relieved of all her pain and suffering. She loved her family with all her heart. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family and grandchildren. She was a very compassionate person, often giving all that she had before thinking of herself. She was born on May 28, 1943, in Southgate, CA, to Kurt Emil and Wilhelmina Giesewski Abramowski. Little sister to Sigrid (Ward) Davis, Rodney (Marci) Abramowski, and Rita (Robert) Walgren. Married Joseph Earl Hurdsman on January 26, 1968, in the St. George LDS temple. Loving mother to five children: Kristin, Jennifer (Shane), Julie (Brian), Kurt (Angie), and Kevin (Jodi). Proud nana to seven grandsons and two granddaughters. Auntie to many nieces and nephews. Friend to all. Preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law JoAnne Abramowski. Darlene was an active member of the LDS Church, having served over 22 years in the Primary and also served as Relief Society President. She was an excellent teacher whose lessons will be long remembered. She had a strong testimony and a mountain of faith. She felt her greatest and most important accomplishment in life was that all five of her children had been through the temple and are active in church. We wish to thank the family of Brooke Graviet for their generous donation of their daughter's liver so our mother could be with us an additional seven years. We'd also like to thank the staff at the LDS Hospital Transplant Clinic for helping keep her alive so long. Jensen "Nana" Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Bernice Burton Jensen, age 88, passed away May 1, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born in Clear Creek, Utah on March 7, 1917 to Otto F. Burton and Mary Evelyn Thorpe. She married M. Duane Jensen on June 15, 1938. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed 65 wonderful years together before his passing in June of 2003. She often reminisced about her happy childhood and her love of tap, ballet and acrobatics. She could even be found turning cartwheels well into her "senior years". She loved to use her mind and keep busy. In early years, she worked as an elementary school secretary and then as a sales clerk for Keith O'Brien. Then she took on the roll as Vice president of Laundry Supply Company where she worked along side her husband. She took great pride in the successful business they owned and operated. They also loved camping, fishing and traveling. In later years they enjoyed spending winters in San Diego. They cherished the many friendships they made on these outings. Family times were very important to Bernice. Backyard barbeques, swimming parties and holiday dinners were always special occasions at her home. These times together have provided many great memories for her family. "Thank you Grandma and we love you." She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Joe T. Burton and daughters Gayle Jensen Reaveley and Kathleen Jensen Paull. Survived by her son Robert D. Johnson 2/19/20 ~ 4/29/05 Mable left the earth on April 29, 2005 to start a new life with those she loved who have gone before her. Born February 19, 1920 to Charles Thomas and Sophia P. Allgier Ashley, five sisters and two brothers. Raised in Salt Lake City, Utah where she graduated from South High School. Mable married Fred C. Johnson Sr. on July 16, 1935 and to them were born 13 children. She was a dedicated mother to be loved and admired as well as a grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Along with her domestic career, she was employed outside the home throughout the years. Retired in 1978 with her husband and moved back to Utah. She was a member of the LDS church. Dad was born in Essen, Germany on September 28, 1904. He passed away in his sleep on April 30, 2005 at the age of 100 in Durango, Colorado. He married Ella Wittenberg in November of 1928 in Germany. Paul and family immigrated to America in 1951. Their marriage was solemnized one year later in the Salt Lake Temple. His wife Ella died in 1968 of cancer. Dad then married Regina Anna Kirschner. She passed away in 2001. Dad was very active in the LDS church where he held many positions and stayed true to the faith. Paul is survived by daughter Ingrid, son Rolf (Cindy), stepdaughter Helga, brother John H. Married Edward Leo Mabey Sr. May 14, 1945 later solemnized in Salt Lake Temple; later divorced. For the past 12 years she has enjoyed the companionship of her dear friend Fred M. Johnsen. Ruth was a bank teller for the National Reserve Bank during the war, a secretary for Aerotech, Universal Grinding, Skaggs and Bailey Beauty Supply. She was a Relief Society secretary, chorister and cooking specialist for Homemaking meetings, Sunday School teacher, Stake stenographer, Visiting Teacher and Stake name extractor for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Holladay and Bountiful. She loved her family and enjoyed her precious grandchildren and great- grandchildren; all of whom referred to her tenderly as "Grandma Great". She was very pleased to be of Scottish heritage and enjoyed her visit to Scotland, a dream come true. We will always love and fondly remember her beautiful smile, quick wit and contagious laugh. Preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, four brothers and great grandson, Jarom Jason Farr. She was a devoted daughter. She cared for her younger sisters, to help her widowed mother. She grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School. She was a gifted artist, a fine seamstress and a perfectionist in all she did. She worked many years in the electronics industry. Liane was loving, wise, kind, tolerant, and honest. She instilled those values in the four children she left behind. We began to miss mom several years ago, and it was hard losing her friendship and recognition, but she always let us know through her brilliant smile and her shining eyes how much she loved us. After graduating from South High, Mom married our dad Don Ballard after World War II ended. They divorced 18 years later. She married Steve Stephens, and they divorced after 13 years. Later, she was fortunate to find Jesse Carter, an old high school friend who became the love of her life 45 years later. She was an ace at the comptometer, and she used to dazzle those she worked with her amazing speed at adding numbers. She worked at Mountain Bell, Penny's, Williamson's Truck Equipment, and Utah Power. Mom was a vivacious, laughing, kind, caring, hard working, and supportive person. She was a member of the LDS Church. She loved decorating her home, redoing each room at least four times. She also loved organizing containers, As the World Turns, dolls, ice cream, golf, pets, knitting, high-heeled shoes, dancing, and music - which she played loud! She had every Frank Sinatra Song ever recorded. Although we have had seven years to prepare for this day, it breaks our heart to lose her. She is survived by her children Brad (Michelle), and Nancy (Brent); grandchildren Jessie, Jordin, and River; sister Sharen (Reuben) Lambert, several nieces and nephews, and Jesse Carter. Swenson, age 78, was called home after a courageous battle with renal cancer on April 30, 2005. He was born June 10, 1926 in Salt Lake City to August LaVern and EreBelle Vance Swenson. Served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He then married his sweetheart, Maurine Woodruff, November 4, 1949. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they enjoyed 55 wonderful years of marriage. As a member of the LDS Church, he served in many callings-his favorite being home teaching. He enjoyed a career in catalog design and retail apparel sales where he coined the phrase "Fit isn't everything". Ken's passion for pigeon racing spanned over 60 years. His birds won many awards including his 1973 AU Hall of Fame winner "304". His family will miss his tenderness and love, his wit and humor will be missed by all. Taylor, Wendell Earl Wendell Earl Taylor, DDS 1924 ~ 2005 Wendell Earl Taylor passed away peacefully at home on April 29, 2005, surrounded by his family. He was born October 21, 1924 to Golden and Evelyn Madsen Taylor in Payson, Utah. In 1949 he married his lifelong sweetheart, Joyce Beverly Johnson, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and together raised six children. Upon turning eighteen, Wendell enlisted in the military service as a Naval aviator. Flying the F4 Corsair as a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps, he survived a plane crash in China on April 1, 1946. Despite this scare, flying remained a passion throughout his life. He built two airplanes and loved the excitement of acrobatic maneuvers and the thrill of moving freely through the air. Wendell graduated from BYU and later from dental school at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco where he and Joyce made many lifelong friends. He practiced dentistry in Salt Lake City for over 40 years. He was active in the Salt Lake Dental Society where he served as President and was on the state Board of Dental Examiners. Wendell loved to explore, and upon settling in Utah bought the first of many Jeeps, making countless journeys into the wide-open spaces of Utah and the West with his family and friends. Glen Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, The San Rafael Swell, and Robbers Roost were only a few of the places he frequented long before they became popular. He taught his kids to enjoy water-sports, camping, horseback riding, Dutch oven cooking, skiing, and the pleasure of many outdoor activities. His love of life and adventure earned him many strong and loyal friends. Wendell is survived by Joyce, his wife of 55 years, his children; Jim and Mary Jane Taylor, Tom Taylor, Pete and Rachel Taylor, John and Connie Taylor, John and Jane Merrill, Kent and Shelly Christensen, nineteen grandchildren and one great-grand-child born this week (all of Salt Lake City); and his dear sister Vivian Creer of Las Vegas, Nevada; and brother Noel of Provo. She married James Lee Terry on October 2, 1945 and was sealed in the Logan Temple on November 28, 1992. She had many beautiful house plants that she enjoyed caring for. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed studying the gospel. She had a fondness for chocolate and desserts of all kinds. Her great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by three brothers and one sister. Wright, Ila Ree Ila Ree Wright 1919 ~ 2005 Ila Ree Wright, 85, died at her home, May 1, 2005, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness. She was born June 21, 1919, in Wellsville, Utah, the daughter of David L. and Sarah Cooper Maughan. She married LaMar J. Wright on August 8, 1945, in the Logan LDS Temple. LaMar passed away on January 13, 1985. They were the parents of four children. She was a lifelong resident of Wellsville. She attended Wellsville schools, then graduated from South Cache High School and Utah State University. She taught school for two years in Preston, Idaho and 27 years for the Cache County School District at Wellsville Elementary. After she retired from teaching she worked for Utah State University in the Department of Education, supervising student teachers. She loved teaching and was a great educator. She was known for her expertise in teaching reading, math, times tables, and choral readings. She helped develop a statewide tutorial program to help children with reading difficulties. She was Chairman of the Cache County Reading Textbook Committee, wrote and operated an individual math program, gave many seminars on teaching reading, was Outstanding Teacher of the Year for Wellsville Elementary, and was selected by the International Reading Association and Cache Valley Reading Council in 1985 to receive the annual Celebrate Literacy Award. She was currently a member of the Wellsville 4th Ward. She has held many ward and stake positions in the Sunday School, Primary, Mutual, and Relief Society organizations. She also served as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple for 10 years. Her life was a life of service to family and others. Her community service was extensive. She was a member of the Mayor Wives Association, the Wellsville Foundation to preserve the tabernacle, the Wellsville Fireman's Ladies Auxillary, the Peter Maughan Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and the Wellsville Literary Club. She received the Wellsville Outstanding Citizen Award on September 7, 1996, at the annual Labor Day meeting for the many services she had rendered to Wellsville City and its citizens. One of her favorite pastimes was sports. She was a member of the Big Blue Club, loved to play golf with her friends each week, and was an avid fan of the Utah Jazz. She also enjoyed spending time in the summer with friends and family at her cabin in Bear Lake and spent her winters in Mesa, Arizona. She had a great sense of humor and a positive attitude in life. Everyone always felt better after her visits. She is survived by her children, Stephen Wright of Mt. Sterling, UT, Robert Wright of Pocatello Valley, ID, Susan (Craig) Petersen of Newton, UT, Paula (Rickey) Anderson of Wellsville, UT; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother: Webster (Connie) Maughan of Preston, ID and two sisters-in law, Clara Maughan of Wellsville, UT, Carma Parker of Ogden, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband, LaMar J. Wright; her parents, David and Sarah Maughan; three brothers, Howard Maughan, Lee Maughan, and Lowell Maughan; and her dear friend and sister-in-law, Venice Maughan. The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Cunningham and the staff of IHC Hospice who so lovingly and tenderly cared for their mother. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at the Wellsville Stake Center, 10 South Center, Wellsville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, at the church, prior to services. Burial will be in the Wellsville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Wellsville Foundation for the preservation of the Tabernacle, P.O.
