Their last trip together was to Norway to visit grandma's family. As president of the Triangle Ranch, Inc. in Goshen, Utah, he was an incredible rancher. He transformed desert into oasis at "Cow Hollow". His greatest achievement, however, was being the greatest grandpa in the world. Wong, Kirby Kirby Wong 1919 ~ 2005 Our beloved husband, father, brother and uncle, Kirby Wong died peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2005 at the age of 86 of colon cancer. He was the second of three children born to Wong Wah and Lee Wong. Last December, he and his wife Mabel (Grace) celebrated 58 years of marriage. He was a quiet, private man who showed his love through his devotion to his family. Besides his wife, he loved his four children, Kathleen (Gary) McFadden, Patricia Wong (Patrick Moore), Christina Wong (Andrew Gould) and Gregory Wong; granddaughter Angela Moore; sister Frances Wong Chan; many nieces and nephews; and his wife's sisters and brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother James. Kirby grew up in Baltimore, MD. as well as Washington, D.C. where he helped his widowed mother run a small restaurant and raise his younger sister Frances. He developed a strong work ethic that he practiced throughout his life. In his younger days, he was a dapper dresser who liked fancy cars, city life and fine food. After putting himself through school, he had a long career at Melpar Industries (now Raytheon) as an engineer, designing defense equipment for the government. After retiring he kept in touch with his coworkers through the monthly lunches, which he enjoyed very much. Kirby had a great sense of humor, simple tastes, enjoyed tennis and designing and building house projects. There was hardly anything that he couldn't repair and he was forever being the all-a-round handyman for his children and neighbors. He will be missed at Little World, his favorite restaurant in town, and the Liberty Senior Center where he made good friends, especially Debra. We will remember him for being an honorable man and always helping those less fortunate. His family would like to thank the truly extraordinary care he received at CareSource Inpatient Hospice Center, where the entire staff are absolutely the most caring, compassionate and comforting human beings. Heartfelt thanks to Dr's Miller and Baraldi, Chaplin Davis, nurse Cindy, aides Gina and Jodi, social worker Julia and driver Joseph for taking that extra step in caring for the family. As he wished, a celebration of his life with his family was held before his death. Directors, Garner Funeral Home. Published in the Deseret News on 5/5/2005.
