Allen, Mary Ellen
Mary Ellen Allen 1923 ~ 2005 Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary Ellen
Allen passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones May 16, 2005 in
Provo, UT. She was born in Inkom, Idaho 17 February 1923, daughter of Charles
Floyd Pope and Myrtle Richardson. Her parents moved to Montana when she was
seven years old, and she received her education there. She married Arthur John
Allen 14 February 1946 in Carson City, NV. Their marriage was later solemnized
in the Manti Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She
received many awards and honors from the government for her outstanding
performance while employed by the Army Department of Defense. She was active
in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous ward
and stake positions. She and her husband served as missionaries at the Manti
Temple and in Louisville, Kentucky. She taught early-morning seminary for many
years, and every young man who attended seminary in Mary's class later went on
to serve a mission for the Church. She loved all children, and she influenced
the lives of many for good. She crocheted baby blankets, and her watercolor
paintings are treasured by her family. Mary is survived by her husband of 59
years, Arthur John Allen; and her four children, Carla Cruff, Sheryl Uluave
(Peter), Arthur William Allen (Mary), and John Lee Allen (Theresa). She has 22
grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
five siblings. We honor her exceptional life and her example to all. Services
will be held in the LDS Sunset Stake Center, 1100 West 1560 South, Provo,
Friday, May 20, 2005, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of
Provo, 185 East Center Street, Thursday, May 19, from 6-8 p.m., or Friday
morning at the stake center one hour prior to services. Interment, Provo City

Ames, Albert Eugene
Albert Eugene Ames 1918 ~ 2005 Albert Eugene Ames, 87, passed away May 12,
2005 in Salt Lake City. He was born April 9, 1918 in Lego, Bannock County,
Idaho to Hyrum Clark Ames and Hes-ter Saunders. He married Sylvia Mae Allen
(Keitman) March 11, 1964 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Albert was a beloved father and
an excellent friend. All who knew him came to appreciate his sense of humor,
loyalty, and strong sense of community. He had a green thumb and took a lot of
pleasure from tilling the soil and nurturing all things that grow. Albert
served in the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW and DAV. Member of Loyal Order
of Moose #259, Fellowship, Legion of Moose. Secretary of Moose Travel Bowling
League for five years. President of Moose Travel Golfers for 16 years. Drove
truck for Consolidated Freightways for 20 years. Daughters, Dorene Lund and
Kathy Handy; sister, Thelma Walker; broth-er, Hyrum Ames; and one grandchild,
Mark Lund, survive him. His wife, Sylvia Mae Ames, precedes him in death.
Albert's dedication as a husband can serve as an example to us all. His
friends, family, and especially his children will miss him dearly. Funeral
services will be held Thursday, May 19, 2005, 11 a.m. at Evans & Early
Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. Family will receive
friends one hour prior to services. Interment to follow at Larkin Sunset
Gardens, 10600 South 1700 East Sandy, Utah.

Anderson, Bpyd M.
Boyd M. Anderson 1920 ~ 2005 COPPERTON - Boyd M. Anderson, 84, our beloved
dad, grandpa, special friend, and brother, passed away May 15, 2005 in a Salt
Lake hospital. He was born June 13, 1920 in Provo, Utah to Marion Lee and
Hazel Agnes Miller Anderson. On March 1, 1946 Boyd married Irene Blundell.
Irene preceded him in death in 1988. "My wife, Irene, presented me with two
great children, Mike and Shawnie. They have blessed me with three
granddaughters, who have added four great-grandsons to my inheritances. All
these lovely people and their spouses have been great citizens and students.
They have made me very proud and happy. They are beautiful people! We have
always been a family and have had great times together. I have a great number
of friends who treat me with kindness and respect. This alone has made me
wealthy, as you don't need a lot of money if you have family and a lot of
friends. For the last several years of my life, Palma has been my special
friend and we have had a lot of good times together and I love her very much.
I have always believed in getting involved in community services. I am proud
of my services: I have been a member of the Bingham Firemen and the Utah State
Firemens Association for 53 years; the Bingham Lions for 35 years; Bingham Boy
Scout, five years; Bingham and West Jordan Little League Baseball, four years;
Copperton Improvement District, 14 years; Bingham Activity Fund, 18 years;
Copperton Emergency Response Team for five years. My wife, Irene, a graduate
from West High and myself, a graduate from Jordan High, started the Bingham
Booster Club in 1971. Irene worked in that club about 10 years. I drove school
bus for 29 years in the Jordan School District and worked for Kennecott Copper
to 35 years." Survivors, children, Shawnie and Jeff Swain, South Jordan,
Michael and Cheryl Anderson, Riverton; grandchildren, Mindy and Jay Knight,
Natalie and Kelsey Smith, Taylor Anderson; great-grandsons, Carson and Zachary
Knight, Kale and Lincoln Smith; special friend, Palma Pearson; sisters and
brother, Ruby Carter, Betty Despain, Robert Anderson, Nonie Shepherd. Boyd
expressed his wish to be cremated. Graveside services for his cremains will be
held Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Midvale City Cemetery, 7500
South 450 West. A celebration of life with refreshments, will be held Friday,
May 20, 2005 at 7 p.m. in the Copperton Lions Club, 1st East and Hillcrest

Christensen, Adeline
Adeline Christensen 1913 ~ 2005 CENTRAL VALLEY, UT - Rose Adeline Christensen,
91, of Central Valley, Utah passed away May 14, 2005, in Las Vegas, Nevada at
her son's home. She was born November 20, 1913, in Randolph, Utah to Brady and
Amelia Feller Stolpe. She married Karl Avery Christensen, of Richfield, August
8, 1939 in Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death August 14, 1981.
Adeline attended Utah State University where she met her husband, Karl. She
was a member of the LDS Church. She enjoyed teaching the trailblazers class in
Primary and being a visiting teacher. She traveled extensively throughout the
world including Russia, China, Africa, and Scandinavia. Adeline had a talent
for gardening and decorating. She loved to entertain her "Club" ladies. She
had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and children. She was
always ready to "go for a ride" and appreciated the beauty of nature. She is
survived by her children, Joseph Lynn (Janet) Christensen, Las Vegas, NV,
Marilyn Rose (Craig) Daniels, Richfield; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Virginia
Lewis Richardson, Logan, Kathryn Bullock, West Valley City; brother, Frank
Mitchell, Montpelier, ID. Preceed in death by parents; husband, Karl; two
sons, Robert Karl Christensen, Calvin Lee Christensen; brothers, Manuel
Stolpe, Fred Stolpe; sister, Gladys Stolpe; brothers-in-law, ElRoy Lewis;
Willard Bullock. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2005, at 11

Coleby, Frances V.
Frances V. Coleby 1927 ~ 2005 Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and
friend, Frances Veenendaal Coleby was called home May 17, 2005 after a valiant
struggle with cancer. Born August 18, 1927 in Salt Lake City, UT the daughter
of John and Nellie Van Tussenbroek Veenendaal. Married Ernest George Coleby in
the Salt Lake Temple, October 23, 1947. Frances was an active member of the
LDS Church, fulfilled many church callings including ward and stake Primary
president and Jordan River Temple worker. She was a wonderful homemaker,
seamstress at Utah Woolen Mills, and retired from Deseret Book. Frances loved
traveling and camping in her trailer with her husband and family. She enjoyed
spending the winters with her family and friends in Mesa, AZ. She loved
crocheting, quilting, ceramics, gardening, and spending time with her family.
Survived by her children, Stanley Ernest (Sharon) Coleby, Judy Coleby (Orrin)
Farnsworth, Nancy Coleby (Terry) Miller, and Douglas Wayne (Sue) Coleby; 15
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, six step grandchildren, eight step
great-grandchil-dren; sisters, Dorothy (Gerald) Smith, Lucile (John) Georgell,
Bertha Mason; brothers, Richard (Darlene) Veenendaal, John (Marilyn)
Veenendaal; sister-in-law, Aleen Veenendaal. Preceded in death by her husband;
parents; her brothers, George and Robert Veenendaal; and grandson, Alan
Douglas Coleby. A special thanks to all the doctors and staff at IHC and

Condos Jr., George
George Condos Jr. May His Memory Be Eternal Beloved husband, father, papou,
and friend. George Condos, Jr. passed away May 16, 2005 leaving a legacy of
honor, love, and humility to those his life touched. He lived, as he died, a
true gentleman, with no regrets. Born September 24, 1921 in Carter, Wyoming to
George and Orlie Myrick Condos. He and his father moved to Wanship in his
early teens. Graduated from North Summit High School, where he excelled in
sports. Employed for a few years by Union Pacific prior to moving to Salt
Lake. Served honorably in the U.S. Navy. Married Madge Coon Jan. 19, 1946.
Retired from Hi-Land Dairy after 38 years of service. Though ill health kept
him from attending for several years, he remained a faithful member of the
Greek Orthodox Church. He is survived by his wife, Madge; children, Trudy and
Jerry Hosler, Scott and Phillis Condos, Angella Condos; grandchildren, Nick
Hosler, Lindsey Hosler, Steven and Raylyce Condos, Chris Condos, Casey Condos,
Patrick and Karen Condos, Nanette and John Evans (their beloved papou);
great-grandchildren, Katelyn Condos and Brady Evans; stepsister, Mrs. Bonnie
Fodness. A special thank you to Jim Kilby and Ray Hixson for their lifetime of
friendship. He considered his greatest accomplishment in life to be his
children. The family would like to thank Care Source Hospice for their loving
care. Lynn, Kevin, Zack, and all the others who were involved in George's
care; we applaud your compassion and thank you for helping us maintain his

Cook Sr., Dennis L.
Dennis L Cook Sr. "Cookie" Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
brother, and son passed away May 16, 2005 in West Valley City, UT. Born
October 22, 1937 in Salt Lake City, UT to Thornton and Emma Cook. Retired from
Kennecott after 30 years of service. He also did auto body repair work and
hobby for many years. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, he loved the
outdoors. He was very devoted to his family. Dennis is survived by his
children, Sherry (Bruce) Redmond, Dennis Jr. (Lori), Micheal (Kathy), Dianna
(Jim) Malcolm; mother, Emma; brothers, Darrell (Calene), Clyde; 11
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in
death by his father; sister, Claudia; and grandchild, Clinton. Special thanks
to our loving mother Katherine Troyer for the past two years of loving care.

Eldard, Lois Nina Thulin
Lois Nina Thulin Eldard 1921 ~ 2005 WEST JORDAN - Lois Nina Thulin Eldard, 84,
passed away Saturday, May 14, 2005 in Salt Lake City. She was born April 5,
1921 in Ogden, a daughter of Anton Julius and Eugenia (Jennie) Marsh Thulin.
She married Robert Albert Eldard April 18, 1944 in Oakland, CA. Robert died
December 1, 1993. She was a member of the LDS Church and served in the
Primary, Relief Society and as 2nd counselor in the Relief Society at the
Heritage Park Care Center for five years. She served in the U.S. Navy during
World War II, was a member of the Waves of the Wasatch, Waves National. She
also served as a Pink Lady at the St. Benedict's Hospital for many years.
Surviving are her children, Linda (Robert, deceased) Eldard, Colorado Springs,
CO, Carol (Kenneth) Jackson, Melrose, MA, Col. (Ret) Richard (Robyn) Eldard,
Valerico, FL, John (Marj) Eldard, Orem, Mike (Debbie) Eldard, Tualatin, OR,
Suzanne (Craig) Pendleton, West Jordan, Roger Eldard, Plano, TX; 18
grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Marsh Thulin, Camarillo,
CA; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Rodgers, New York. She was preceded in death by
her husband; one son, Robert; five brothers. Funeral services will be held
Saturday, May 21st, 1 p.m. at the Myers Mortuary Chapel, 845 Washington Blvd.,

England, Donna E. Jaensch (Boone)
Donna E. Boone Jaensch England 1939 ~ 2005 Donna E. Boone Jaensch England
passed away peacefully at her daughter's home May 14, 2005 surrounded by her
family and friends. Born January 21, 1939 to Jack E. and Ann Elizabeth Fowler
Boone. She graduated from West High School; married Raymond A. Jaensch; moved
to Woods Cross, Utah; adopted Karen and Brian; and later divorced. She spent
the rest of her life in Centerville. Donna had a wonderful life with her
family and special traveling pals. They were always planning their next great
adventure. She always had wonderful stories and memories to share. We are very
lucky to have spent time with Donna. She faced many obstacles but because of
her love for her family and life she never quit or complained. Donna has a
place in the stars just because of the wonderful person she was. You can find
her star among Aquarius at RA21h4.m, 55 S DO854. Preceded in death by her
father; mother; and brother, Jess Boone. She has left behind her daughter,
Karen (Bryan) Becker; her son, Brian Ray Jaensch; and the pride of her life,
her grandchildren, KC Olsen and Shauntel Donna-Maria Becker. Donna will be
greatly missed. She will always be in our thoughts and hearts. A memorial
service will be held Saturday May 21, 2005, 1 p.m. at her daughter's home,

Fivas, Edmund A.
Edmund A. Fivas 1916 ~ 2005 Edmund A. Fivas, age 88, passed away May 14,
following a lengthy illness. He has joined his wife, Gladys, of more than 50
years. He was born October 9, 1916 in Salt Lake City to Peter George and Emma
Clara Widmark Fivas. He married Gladys Fivas January 1, 1939. Edmund retired
from Kennecott Copper Corp. after more than 30 years of service. He is
survived by his sister, Clara Gandy; sons, Edmund L. (Barbara) Fivas and
Ronald E. (Banita) Fivas; daughters, Jewel L. Fivas, Joan S. Smith, and Lynda
Fivas; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and dogs, Star and Sad.
Preceded in death by his wife, Gladys P. Fivas; brothers, George Peter, Romeo
Jerry, John Roland, Raymond Artimus, Minelos Stanley and Conrad Valentine.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 19, 2005 in the Lake Hills Memorial
Mortuary at 2 p.m. with a viewing one hour prior to the service, a night
viewing will be held at the Mortuary Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Edmund's name to the
American Heart Association, Humane Society, or the American Cancer Society.

Guice, Doris Audrey Allred
Doris Audrey Allred Guice "Grandmama" Doris Allred Guice, age 74, passed away
peacefully in her home Friday, May 13, 2005 surrounded by her family. Doris
was born July 30, 1930 to Claude and Mabel Anderson Allred in Blue Bell, Utah.
She graduated from Altamont High School and moved to Salt Lake where she met
and married the love of her life, Dotson Jerome "Jerry" Guice Sr.; he preceded
her in death. They had two children, two grandchildren, and six
great-grandchildren. She leaves behind her son, Jay Guice; daughter, Donna
(Neil) Barton; granddaughters, Martha (Ron) Nielsen, whom she lived with,
Kelly (Shawn) Hughes; six great-grandchil-dren; her sister and brothers; and
many others who called her grandma. She is also preceded in death by her four
brothers. Due to Doris' wishes there will be no viewing and she will be
cremated. There will be a memorial service Friday, May 20, 2005, 10 a.m. at
McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road. In lieu of flowers, it was
Doris' wish that memorial donations be made to Martha Nielsen to help care for
Doris' son, Jay Guice. We love you and know you are always there to watch over
us. You'll always be in our hearts. We love you so much, Grandma!

Knighton, Wilma Griffiths
Wilma Griffiths Knighton 1912 ~ 2005 Wilma Griffiths Knighton, beloved
daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully Sunday
afternoon, May 15, 2005 at the age of 92, in Bountiful, Utah. Wilma was born
30 December 1912 in Smithfield, Utah; her parents were William George
Griffiths and Mary Helena Petersen also from Smithfield. Wilma married Willard
Stephen Knighton, Sr., they spent their early married years in Salt Lake City,
eventually moving to Bountiful where they both lived out the rest of their
lives. Wilma enjoyed bowling, socializing with her friends, and raising her
son, Bill, Jr. or (Sony) as he is affectionately called. Wilma is survived by
her son, Willard Stephen Knighton, Jr.; his wife, Marlene Martin; eight
grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
Wil-ma was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Knighton, Sr. Graveside
services will be held Friday, May 20, 2005, 11 a.m. at the Bountiful City
Cemetery, 2020 South 200 West. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Marshall, Cleo G. "Daisy"
Cleo G. Marshall "Daisy" On October 31, 1922 grandma said, "I was not born, I
came in on a broom." And the world has not been the same since. Along with her
husband, Mel, they traveled the world for the past 35 years. On May 16, 2005
grandma chose to continue her journey in the great beyond. Let's hope they
have music to dance to there. She married Allen K Bodtcher in 1938, who died
in World War II. Subsequently she married Melvin J. Marshall September 27,
1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple
August 13, 1997. Survived by her husband, Mel; sons, Allen, Ronald (Nancy),
Terry (Shirley), and John. She was the third of nine children and daughter of
James Wilks and Roselda Edwards Hofheins. She has 10 grandchildren, and seven
great-grandchildren (so far). We express gratitude for the hours of service to
Woodlands Park Care Center and Superior Hospice Service. Funeral services will
be held Thursday, May 19, 2005, 1 p.m. at the Millcreek 2nd Ward, 4220 S.
Jeanine Dr. (400 E.). Friends may call Wednesday, May 18, 2005 from 6-8 p.m.

Mehr, Loretta K.
Loretta K. Mehr 1930 ~ 2005 Loretta K. Mehr, age 74, recently of San Jose, CA
passed away the eve of May 15, 2005 of natural causes at Lakeview Hospital in
Bountiful, Utah. Loretta was born September 10, 1930 in Hannibal, MO. She was
the daughter of Glenn O. and Ruby I.B. Price. A member of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married David L. Mehr June 22, 1953, her
beloved husband of 51 years in Loretta's home in Hannibal, MO. Their marriage
was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple 25th October 1957. Loretta
had a kind and generous nature and was always willing to give of her means to
others. She and her husband David loved their home in Bountiful and enjoyed
living in Utah. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy P. Bronson of
Bountiful, and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, David;
her father and mother; and a sister, Norma Wilson of Hayward, CA. Graveside
services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2005, 11 a.m. at the Midway, Utah

Nelson, Morris H.
Morris H. Nelson 1931 ~ 2005 Morris H. Nelson of Provo, Utah peacefully
returned to the joy and comfort of his heavenly home May 15, 2005, after a
valiant battle with cancer. A kind, caring, and devoted husband and father,
his gentle strength consistently sustained his family through the years. This
same strength was exhibited while serving in various church and community
positions. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he
faithfully served in positions of leadership, including bishop, stake high
councils, and youth programs in several parts of the country. He was known for
his intelligence, dependability, and humble, quiet service. Morris was born
Dec. 4, 1931 in Columbia, Utah son of Levi A. and Erma (Duncan) Nelson. His
childhood years in Columbia were filled with playing in the blue clay sand
hills, fishing, hunting, camping, and target shooting. He attended Carbon High
School in Price, Utah where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and
track. Later, he was selected for the Utah State All-Star Football Squad. He
attended the University of Utah on a football scholarship and was proud to
have been part of the Skyline Conference Championship teams of 1951, 1952, and
1953. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. After graduating in 1955 with a
B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, he accepted employment with Shell
Chemical Company in Torrance, CA. On June 10, 1955, he married Jeri Lu Emerson
in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS
Temple in 1960. His professional career gave him the opportunity to live in
Torrance, CA; Cheshire, CT; Parkersburg, WV; and Missouri City, TX. After 37
years with Shell, he retired and moved to Provo, UT. Morris and Jeri Lu were
the parents of four children, Linda, Jill, Kent, and Jennifer. He was the
ultimate father, always available to help with homework, chaperone dances,
enjoy football games, and lend a listening ear. His wise counsel guided,
lifted, and sustained his family. As a loving family patriarch, he exhibited
both strength and humility, gentleness, and patience. Morris was preceded in
death by his parents; his brothers, Durward and Max; and his son, Dr. Kent
Morris Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Jeri Lu Nelson, of Provo, UT;
daughters, Linda (Bert) Waite of West Jordan, UT, Jill (Bill) Crandell of
Provo, UT, Jennifer (Brent) Matsu of Firestone, CO; sister, Leatrice Nielsen
of Antioch, CA; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Nelson of Lakewood, CO; 16
grandchildren; and one great-grand-child. Funeral services will be held
Friday, May 20, 2005, 11 a.m. at the Rock Canyon Chapel, 2445 North 650 East,
Provo, UT. There will be a viewing Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the
Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State St., Orem, UT, and at the chapel

Nielsen, Louise Carlisle
Louise Carlisle Nielsen 1908 ~ 2005 Our beloved mother, Louise Carlisle
Nielsen, age 96, passed away May 12, 2005 in Orem, Utah. She was born
September 12, 1908 in Millcreek, Utah the fifth child of Joseph Alma (Talt)
and Mary Elizabeth Carn Carlisle. She married John (Jack) Nielsen November 7,
1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt
Lake Temple June 29, 1937. Mother was raised in Millcreek, but left the
shelter of the mountains to marry her sweetheart in Pennsylvania during the
peak of the depression. They lived in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, PA,
Baltimore and Hagerstown, MD, and Alhambra, CA as they moved about the country
with dad's employment with Westinghouse. They returned to Utah in 1950 and
lived for some 46 years on Connor Street in the Garden Heights area of Salt
Lake. In 1996 mom and dad sold the family home and moved to Cove Point
Retirement Center in Provo. They lived there until dad's death November 16,
1997. Mother continued to live at Cove Point until December 2004 when she
moved to Beehive Homes on 800 East in Orem. The family is grateful to the
staff at Cove Point and Beehive Homes, who looked after her over the years.
Mother was an active member of the LDS Church her entire life and faithfully
fulfilled many callings, including ward Relief Society president and served in
the Primary more than 20 years teaching many girls how to crochet. She made
many beautiful handicraft items which she freely shared with family and
friends. She will be fondly remembered for all of the receiving blankets her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren received over the years. Mother is
survived by one son and three daughters, J. Boyd (Candace) Nielsen, Lehi,
Glennae (Don) Fielden, Salt Lake City, Nanette (Merrill) Beckstead, Orem, and
Marva Blalock, Taylorsville. She has 25 grandchildren and 55
great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Richard M. Carlisle,
Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson,
Jeffrey J. Beckstead; one brother, Raymond; and five sisters, Rhea Breeze,
Almeda Carlisle, Thelma Hill, Alice Todd, and Mary Fuller. At our mother's
request, no funeral services will be held, but family and friends may visit
Thursday afternoon from 2-3 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300
East. Graveside services will be held 3:30 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens

Pace, Alvin Jean
Alvin Jean Pace 1954 ~ 2005 Alvin Jean Pace was born in PA to "Goo" and
Beatrice Pace. Well loved brother to James, John, Jeff, and Jo. Father to Josh
(Angie), and Sarah (James); and proud grandfather to Alexandra, passed away at
his home over the weekend and is now at rest with his wife, Debra. His hard
working, winning personality, charming humor, and good looks made him loved by
everyone. Working at the VA Medical Center more than 20 years, he was able to
touch so many lives and made many close friends. He will be greatly missed by
family, friends and those who gave him companionship over the years. Funeral
services will be Friday May 20, 2005, 11 a.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn
Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, where also friends may call one hour prior to
services. Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Park.

Payne, Marie N. Bohe
Marie N. Bohe Payne 1909 ~ 2005 Marie N. Bohe Payne, 96, passed away May 16,
2005 in Clearfield, UT. She was born March 13, 1909, in Riverton, UT to Henry
and Martha Densley Bohe. On June 19, 1928, she married James D. Payne in Salt
Lake City. He preceded her in death in 1976. She retired from Hill Air Force
Base in 1971. She is survived by her three children, Beverly (Joe) Johnson,
Donna Parker (Verl) Dahl, and Gene (Mar-go) Payne; brother, Roland L. Bohe,
and 113 additional descendents. Visitation Thursday May 19, from 12:30-1:45
p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy where services
will follow at 2 p.m. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.

Self, Mary Abbott
Mary Abbott Self 1916 ~ 2005 Born October 30th, 1916 in Richfield, Utah. At
the time of her passing of natural causes, May 9th, 2005, she was residing
with her son, Perry Self, in Apple Valley, CA. At the age of three, living in
Marysville, Utah, she unfortunately lost her mother in 1920 to the influenza
epidemic. Her father then moved the family of four boys and two girls to
Delta, Utah to homestead some farmland. The family eventually moved to Lehi,
Utah where her father remarried and had seven more children. Mary was
valedictorian of her high school graduating class, participated on the debate
team, the yearbook committee, and in other school activities. In sports, she
ran the low hurdles. She won a BYU Invitational meet for her event and set a
new Utah State record. Following high school graduation, she received a
scholarship and attended Stephen Henniger Business School. She married Harvey
Delor Self August 5th, 1935 in Farmington, Utah. The marriage was later
solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints in 1956. Mary was an avid reader and loved to write as well.
One of her articles was published in the Long Beach Press Telegram newspaper.
She was particularly proud of receiving her Assoc. ts degree in Early
Childhood Development from Long Beach City College when she was in her
sixties. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Delor Self; and one
son, Laine A. Self. She is survived by her daughter, Annette Shinedling of
Flushing, MI; and five sons, Harvey Richard, Denver, CO, Steven Michael,
Fallbrook, CA, Jon Delor, Victorville, CA, Paul William, Santa Clara, CA, and
Perry Jolley of Apple Valley, CA. Additionally, Mary is survived by her
brother, Stephen Garth Abbott of Idaho Falls, ID; and sisters, Leah Nora
Sampson of Midvale, UT, and Lorena Slater of Mona, UT. Her extended family
includes 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Services will be held
Saturday May 21st at 10 a.m. in the Ranchos Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints in Apple Valley, CA, followed by a graveside service at
Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd, Westminster, CA at 2:30 p.m.
Services officiated by Dudley Mortuary (760) 242-5009. A viewing will be held
Friday, May 20th from 6-9 p.m. at Dudley Mortuary, 16095 Tuscola Road, Apple

Smith, Dennis E.
Dennis E. Smith 1936 ~ 2005 Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother,
and friend, Dennis E. Smith, began his turn on earth July 24, 1936 and
returned to his Heavenly Father May 17, 2005 after a valiant battle with
cancer. He was 68. He was born in Ogden, Utah to Eldredge and Elaine Williams
Smith-Serne where he was taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He then spent the
rest of his life putting the Gospel into practice. He married his sweetheart,
Karen Campbell, April 28, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple. As patriarch of his
family he served us with kindness, gentleness and humor. Dad's greatest desire
was to live his life like the Savior, and in this regard, he was a tremendous
success. Dad was a man of uncompromising integrity and honesty, was always
true to his word, and never spoke negatively about anyone. He was an eternal
optimist who always tried to look for the positives in life and in others.
Dennis dedicated his life to the service of others. He served an LDS mission
to Eastern Canada (1957-59) and later served with his dear wife in the Orlando
LDS Temple (June 2003-June 2004). He served his country in the Army Reserve -
328th General Hospital (1959-65), served the community as a pharmacist
(1963-2005), and diligently served his church and his fellow man in everything
he did. He was loved and adored by his family, especially his seven
grandchildren, his extended family, and anyone who had the good fortune of
knowing him. He left a legacy of love. He is survived by his wife, Karen;
children, Jeff (Kelly) Smith, Debra (Alan) Davis and Derek Smith; seven
grandchildren; mother, Elaine Serne; brother, E. Steven Smith. Funeral
services will be held Saturday, 12 noon at the Granger 18th Ward, 2850 West
3835 South. A viewing will be held Friday, 6-8:30 p.m. at McDougal Funeral
Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and Saturday at the church, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Interment, Clearfield Cemetery.

Thomson, Betty Jean Hamblin
Betty Jean Hamblin Thomson 1934 ~ 2005 Betty Jean Hamblin Thomson, age 70, our
beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away Monday, May 16,
2005 of complications from cancer. Betty was born June 3, 1934 in Payson, Utah
to Lyman and Margaret Gurr Hamblin the first of nine children. She attended
Payson High School. She married Walter Thomson. They later divorced. She made
her home in Bountiful where she raised her three wonderful children, Steven,
Michael, and Heather. She worked for the State of Utah and the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints Mission Accounting Department where she retired in
1999. In her youth she was an excellent student. She also enjoyed singing and
dancing in the school plays at Payson High School and all sports. Betty was a
member of the Payson High girls basketball and softball teams. She was
preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Chad and Larry Hamblin; and
grandchildren, Dallin and Rachel Thomson. She is survived by her brother,
Lyman Hamblin (Kay), Provo; brother, Wallace Hamblin (Joan), Springville;
sister, Linda Averett (Lanny), Springville; sister, Wanda York (Ted), Tooele;
brother, Curt Hamblin (Sandy), Orem; sister, Pam Logan (Michael), Hurricane;
son, Steven Thomson (AnJee), Clearfield; son, Michael Thomson (Alison),
Centerville; daughter, Heather Thomson, Bountiful; grandchildren, Kyle
Ariotti, Joshua Ariotti, Micah Thomson, Bailey Thomson, McCall Thomson, Erin

Thorpe, Michael Robert
Michael Robert Thorpe 4/16/1958 ~ 5/14/2005 In loving memory of Michael Robert
Thorpe, born April 16, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the son of Ronald
and Sherrie Gritton Thorpe. He attended Jordan High School and Dixie College
where he won numerous awards for his theatrical achievements. Mike was an
Elder in the LDS Church. He served as a police officer more than 14 years in
both South Salt Lake and Park City Departments. Over the years he has received
many awards and commendations in the service of the people of Utah. He was
also a member of the Blue Knights. Mike loved the open road and motorcycles
brought him the adventure that was such a necessary part of his life. He
married Janet Palmer in 1981 and they have a daughter, Heather Lissa. They
were later divorced. He married Cecelia Chacon in 1997 and they have a son,
Michael Robert Jr. He is survived by his wife, Cecelia; father, Ronald Allan;
mother, Sherrie; his children, Heather Lissa and Michael Robert Jr.; siblings,
Anne Marie Terry and David Earl Thorpe. Michael had a kind heart and a gentle
spirit. To know him was to love him. Friends may call at Wasatch Lawn
Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr, Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior

George H. Wiseman Jr. 1916 ~ 2005 Our loving husband, father, grandfather,
uncle, and great friend, George H. Wiseman, Jr., passed away May 14, 2005 in
Salt lake City, Utah. Born December 24, 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George
H. and Sarah Jane Wakefield Wiseman. Married Veda Mitchell August 12, 1961.
Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. George was
known as an honest, humble, and industrious man with a wonderful sense of
humor. He was an active member of the LDS Church. Retired from AT&T-Mountain
Bell after 40 years of service. He had a great love for his wife and family
including extended family members. Survivors, wife, Veda; daughter, Beverly
(Charles) Lankford; son, David (Joannie); two grandchildren; a great-grandson;
two nieces; and many grand-nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents;
sister, Rose Anna; brother, Thomas; sister, Evelyn; son, Steven; daughter,

Woodward, Pat G.
Pat G. Woodward 5/28/47 ~ 5/16/05 Our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend
returned home after struggling from extended illnesses. She was born in Provo,
Utah to Thomas and Ann Griffiths. She loved and gave her heart to her
soul-mate, Leonard LaMar Simonson. She married Ken Sweet; later divorced. She
enjoyed life to the fullest and was a giving and caring person. Pat helped
everyone with no expectations in return. She cherished her grandchildren,
Cathy, Donna, Brian, Adam, and Alyssa Chrystine. Pat was loved and respected
by all that knew her. Survived by her son, Tye (Stacey); five grandchildren;
and special friend, Joann. Preceded in death by her parents; her son, Lynn;
and her soul-mate, Leonard. Graveside services will be held Friday, 2 p.m. at
Redwood Memorial Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Rd. A viewing will be held Thursday
