Barlow, Lynne Kay

Benson, Richard Jon
Richard Jon Benson "Tabby Gramps" Richard "Dick" Jon Benson, 64, passed away
from heart failure on May 21, 2005, in Salt Lake City, UT. Born January 21,
1941, in Salt Lake City, UT to Robert Darwin and Nettie Elizabeth Taylor
Benson. Married Kathleen Springer June 15, 1964 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Dick grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah. He
was an active member of the LDS Church and served a mission in the
Northwestern States. He retired from the Army Reserve after 23 years of
service and also retired from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office after 30
years of service. He was an officer friendly in elementary schools and a law
enforcement officer at Granite, Bingham, and Brighton High Schools. He was
passionate about his service in the armed forces and sheriffs office. Dick was
an expert gunsmith and sharp shooter. He loved to play the guitar, yodel, tell
funny stories and sing to his grandkids. He was a crossword puzzle
connoisseur, and an avid gardener. Dick was a devoted husband, father and
grandfather. His family always came first and he was so loving and unselfish.
He was greatly loved by his family and friends. We will miss him. Survived by
his wife, Kathy Springer Benson; three sons, Robert and Jennifer Benson,
Taylor Benson and Rick Benson; three daughters, Andrea and Roger Smith, Kris
and Jeff Coleman and Meg Benson; 13 grandchildren; father; brothers, Robert T.
and Kay Benson, John T. and Colleen Benson; and his favorite sister, Mary and
Glen Bendixen. Preceded in death by his mother. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday, May 25, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at the Granite Stake Center, 2005 South
900 East. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary,
260 East South Temple and from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment,

Berger, Nancy Ann Sjoblom
Nancy Ann Sjoblom Berger 1936 ~ 2005 Nancy, 69, our loving mom, granny,
sister, and friend, passed away May 19, 2005, after a long and courageous
battle with cancer. She fought valiantly until the very last moment. She died
the same way she lived her life, with strength, dignity, and fortitude. Nancy
was born April 24, 1936 in Murray, Utah to Oscar and Thalia Fitzgerald
Sjoblom. She attended Draper Elementary, Draper Junior High, and Jordan High
School where she developed many lifetime friends. She was a Beetdigger through
and through, and was active in many school musicals and clubs. She remained
close to her school friends and helped organize many reunions for the Class of
'54, who celebrated their 50th class reunion in June 2004. She attended the
University of Utah, earned a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education, and a
Masters degree in Library Science. She worked for Jordan School District as a
teacher and media coordinator (librarian) for 31 years. Then worked as a
consultant for Education Products. She was president of both Alpha Delta Kappa
(ADK) and the American Association of University Women-Wasatch Branch (AAUW).
She was a member of the International Society of Poets. She volunteered for
the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympics and spent four years prior to the Olympics
recruiting additional volunteers for the games. Nancy was a writer and
published poet. She loved writing, traveling, and spending time with friends
going to the Utah Shakespearean Festival, playing bridge, and tennis. She also
loved reading, knitting, sewing, and taking photos. She was an avid tennis
player, playing and winning many tournaments as an amateur. She played her
last tennis match in April 2005. Nancy had two children, five grandchildren,
and was married to Lewis Berger (deceased). She had one sister and many
wonderful friends who were there for her to the bitter end. Her family, tennis
friends, bridge friends, and, teacher association friends will all miss her.
Survived by her children, Scott (Shauna) Jensen, and Cherylann Jensen (Max)
Johnson; five grandchildren, Josh, Andie, Connor, Ronnie, and Tyler; sister,
Maryellen (Don) Antczak; two nephews, Rob and Brett; one niece, Kaelynne; and
many great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceded in death by her parents and
husband. How lucky we are to have known someone so special that saying goodbye
to was so very, very hard. A celebration of her life will be held at Draper
Cemetery, 12450 South 950 East, Draper, Utah Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 11:00
a.m. A viewing will be held, Tuesday, May 24, 2005, 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary,
8090 So. State. Nancy's last poem: "So why forget the truly great. The ones
who choose to fight. In silence and with dignity. Courageous in their plight."

Burdette, Matthew William
Matthew William Burdette 1969 ~ 2005 Beloved husband, father, son, broth-er,
uncle, and friend to all, Matt Burdette, returned to his Heavenly Father, May
18, 2005. Matt was born November 28, 1969 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a
member of the Marcrest 2nd Ward. He was dedicated to his callings. His
favorite calling was in the nursery where he gained many little friends. Matt
had a great gift for connecting with people, no matter what their age. Uncle
Matt was the center of every family reunion because of his fun, energetic
personality. Matt is survived by wife, Mary Ann Burdette; son, Joshua;
daughter, Mi-kelle; parents, Gae and Duane Bur-dette; and mother-in-law, Jane
Myrberg. He is also survived by six broth-ers; and one sister; as well as many
loving friends and extended family. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m.
Monday May 23, 2005 at the Marcrest 2nd Ward building located at 6170 W.
Marcrest Drive (3005 South). A viewing for family and friends will be held
prior to the service from 9-10:30 a.m. at the ward building. Interment will be
at Valley View Memorial Park. SereniCare, funeral directors.

Collier, Ruth
Ruth Collier 1923 ~ 2005 Ruth Collier of Centerville, passed away peacefully
in Bountiful, Utah May 21, 2005. She was born July 23, 1923 to George A. and
Allie King Freestone. Ruth was reared and educated in Ogden, Utah. She
graduated from Ogden High School and the Dee Hospital College of Nursing. She
married Charles William Collier in Indianapolis, Indiana. He later died April
30, 1980. Ruth had been a registered nurse. She worked at the Dee Hospital in
Ogden and St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis. She enjoyed bowling, reading
and working with stained glass. Ruth is survived by her two sons, five
grandchildren and one great-grand-daughter, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral Service will be held at Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E.
Monday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to
services. Interment at the Oaklawn Memorial Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to a favorite charity.

Denlinger, Dona Bush
Dona Bush Denlinger "S000-BZY" Dona Faye Bush Denlinger passed away peacefully
in her sleep May 17, 2005. She was always tickled to announce she was a twin.
Donald Ray and mom were born December 3, 1927 in Elko, Nevada. Their loving
parents were Mildred Belle and Howard Reed Bush. Mom met Dad, John Edward
Denlinger, in December 1942. "Bush" and "Johnny" married January 30, 1943.
During World War II she followed her sailor across the U.S. During this time
they had and lost a daughter, Pamela, in August 1944. A daughter, Cyd; a son,
Matt; and a second daughter, Jan, were born to them after Dad returned from
World War II. They divorced in 1962. Dona later married Stephen Louis Elkins
on July 23, 1968. They later divorced. She worked as a PBX Operator for Salt
Lake County many years. She worked at Northwest Pipeline where she made many
good friends including Fran. She retired from Salt Lake Community College,
Redwood Road Campus, October 29, 1993. She stayed in touch with the many good
friends she made there including LaRae, Colleen, Jean, June, Marian, Jeniel,
Ursula and Loretta. All her life Dona was known for her fashion sense. She
turned heads wherever she went because she always looked PERFECT! During the
50's and 60's she was the only person in Salt Lake to sport a white streak in
her jet black hair. How daring! Mom had a collection of several hundred bells.
She collected bells partly due to her Mom's middle name. Over the years
friends and relatives brought her bells from all over the world. She had a
passion for decorating. You always knew which season/holiday it was when you
approached her home. This talent was passed on to both daughters. She spent
her retirement enjoying her dogs, bird, daughters and friends. Her license
plate said it all, "SOOO-BZY". She was given great joy in her life by many
special, close friends including Donna, Carol, Arlean, Jeanne, Billie, Sally,
Jean and Judy to name but a few. She would want to express her thanks to Dr.
Gary Alexander, Marla Burton, Dr. Marc Anderson, Irene Evans, Nicole Clark,
Dr. Stephen Tucker and the staff of Professional Plaza Pharmacy and Rocky
Mountain Care Center who all took such good care of her and who she considered
friends. Mom endured more than her share of heartache. She lost her mom,
Mildred; her dad, Reed; her first grandchild, Justin; her son, Matt; her
daughter, Jan; John and Steve and another grandson, Dan. She is survived by
brother, Don Bush (Bev); daughter, Cyd Denlinger; granddaughters, Kellyann
Schulte, Angela Kent, and Michelle Denlinger; grandsons, Matthew, Sean and
Karl Denlinger; great-grandsons, Scott Young and Jersey Lopez; and most
importantly, her four babies, K.C. Bird, Jon Jon, Tigger and Tippi who will
miss their mommy most of all. Adhering to Mom's wishes a private service will

Fawson, Lindsey Rae
Lindsey Rae Fawson (Linz) (Poopers) Lindsey died tragically at the age of 22
Monday, May 16, 2005 following a senseless act of violence. She was born
Friday, August 27, 1982 in Salt Lake City. In the short years she spent on
this earth she has accomplished a great deal. She gave life to two precious
and darling spirits that will carry her love and memory throughout their
lives. She was an accomplished saxophone player through her school years.
Lindsey possessed a great love for animals. She loved to care for them, no
matter the species, she had to have one or two or three (No More!!!). If we
didn't know her better you'd think she was related to Noah of Biblical times,
and would have thought her home was the Ark. She had a gift with animals, she
even taught her dog, "Athena" to skate board. Lindsey loved to snowboard with
her family, and persuaded her younger sister, Chelsea, to change venues from
snow skiing to snowboarding after Chelsea's father outfitted her with skis.
Chelsea's father was not happy. Lindsey has touched many hearts and now that
she is gone the emptiness we feel without her will need to be filled with what
she has left behind. Lindsey leaves us with many special memories and her life
she has shared with us is invaluable and irreplaceable. Her special spirit
will now be able to be shared with others that did not know her up in heaven.
When you look at her picture it is apparent the genuineness of her person and
of her spirit. Her smile along with the sparkle of her eyes showed us the kind
of person she was. When she was a little girl, she had freckles all over her
face, and her mother told her that these were angel kisses. The angels did
bless her with a gift, and that gift she truly shared with all of us whether
she knew it or not. She possessed a heart of gold. She truly cared how other
people felt, and offered her help selflessly on many occasions. What may have
been reported may not have been the actual case. She was a loving, caring
person and the memories of our precious Lindsey will live on in every one who
has been a part of her life. She is survived by her two sons, Terrance Alyjah
and Thomas Izayah Fawson; father, Brent R. Fawson; mother, Tessie Lee (Robert)
Seneca; grandparents, George and Arlene Fawson; nephews, Taylor Joseph and
Curtis James Loftus, Cannon Austin and Kaiden William Fawson; sisters, Stacey
Joy Fawson, Nichole L. (Joseph) Loftus; step-sisters and brother, Natalie,
Chelsea and Wayne Seneca. Lindsey is preceded in death by grandparents,
Kenneth W. and Eura J. Shields; and an aunt, Betty J. Densley Tribute services
will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley,
1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy, (10600 So.) where family and friends may visit
Monday from 6-9 p.m. and Tuesday 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment, Redwood Memorial.
To assist with the children's future a trust fund has been established at any
Zion's Bank branch in Lindsey's name.

Griffiths, Suzanne Tucker
Suzanne Tucker Griffiths 1947 ~ 2005 KAYSVILLE - Suzanne Tucker Griffiths, our
beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, Suzanne
Tucker Griffiths, age 58, passed away May 19, 2005 in Kaysville, Utah after a
brave and determined battle with colon cancer. She was born May 7, 1947 in
Salt Lake City, Utah the third child of Cleon D. and Betty Jensen Tucker. She
lived in many different parts of Utah including Bountiful, Hyrum, and
Kaysville. She graduated from Skyview High School in the first graduating
class. She married Brent H. Griffiths May 20, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Suzanne loved serving others and being with her family. She enjoyed cooking,
reading, and traveling with her husband and family. Some of her favorite
places included Hawaii and the family cabin in Wyoming. She made the best hand
dipped chocolates with her mother and she made any family party an event. She
was a wonderful, caring wife and mother and a super grandmother. She was
always concerned about her family and she loved them all very much. As a
faithful, lifelong member of the LDS Church she served in various callings
including Relief Society president, Young Women's president and Primary
president. She also served for many years as a docent at the Church Museum of
History and Art where she was able to share her love of art and the gospel
with others. Suzanne is survived by her husband, Brent; four children, Julie
(Alan) Clark, Alan (Heidi) Griffiths, Brian (Renee) Griffiths, Carrie
Griffiths; and her 10 grandchildren, Jordan, McKenna, Tyson, Zachary, Alexa,
Ry-an, Tyler, Justin, Brianne, and Allison. She is also survived by her
parents, in-laws, four brothers, and one sister. She was preceded in death by
her brother, and grandparents. We will miss you, Suzie. "Can you smell the
ginger?" Funeral services will be Monday, May 23, 2005, 11 a.m. at the
Kaysville Crestwood Chapel, 1039 E. Crestwood Road. Friends and family may
call Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road
and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City

Hansen, Rose Elizabeth Roberts
Rose Elizabeth Roberts Hansen 1914 ~ 2005 Rose Elizabeth Roberts Hansen, age
90, of Salt Lake City, Utah died May 20, 2005. She had been living in Riverton
for the last seven years. Rose was born December 20, 1914 to Lillian Grace
Dawkins and Henry Roberts. We are celebrating the life of a very special lady
who loved us. She was a wife, mother and friend. She loved being a homemaker
and mother. She worked in the Primary organization and did genealogy. She
became an artist in her later years but always found time to help any of us
who needed her. She is survived by her children, Robert and Susan Hansen,
Karen (Larry) Raikes, Jack Hansen; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grand-children;
and 15 great great-grand-children. Preceded in death by her husband, Alden M.
Hansen; son, Alden Douglas Hansen; daughters, Shirley Joan Hansen and Faye
Rose Hansen Nickle. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 25,
2005 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr. where friends may call
Tuesday 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment will be
in Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Hanson, Eugene Emory
Eugene Emory Hanson 1927 ~ 2005 Eugene Emory Hanson, loving husband, son,
father, and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly May 20, 2005 after a series
of major health problems. Gene was born September 26, 1927 in Price, Utah to
Eugene C. Hanson and Bessie Gibson Hanson. Gene's family moved to Salt Lake
City when Gene was nine years old. Gene graduated from East High School in
1944 and, following his graduation, he enlisted into the Navy. After World War
II, Gene enrolled at the University of Utah and graduated with a degree in
Business Administration. Gene married Rose Marie Carter on August 14, 1949 in
Cheyenne, Wyoming. This marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS
Temple. Gene worked with his father in the insurance business for many years
and was well respected in the industry. Gene became an officer in the Air
Force Reserve and was the commanding officer of several Reserve and Air
National Guard Communications Groups. He retired from the Air Force with the
rank of Colonel. Gene had a passion for radios and was a Ham radio operator
for many years. Gene was a loving, caring, and generous man. Gene and Rose
Marie were active in the church their entire lives. He enjoyed spending his
winters in Palm Desert, California and his summers at his cabin in Island
Park, Idaho. He was a fan of the University of Utah Football, Basketball, and
Womens Gymnastics teams. He was a Crimson Club member for many years. He is
survived by his loving wife, Rose Marie; his mother, Bessie Gibson Hanson,
Salt Lake City; his sister, Kathryn Shirts and her husband, Randy, Provo, UT;
his sons, David (Becky), Bountiful, UT; Steven (Becky), Boise, Idaho; Jay
Martin (Judy), San Jose, California; and his daughter, Lori Woodbury,
Taylorsville, UT. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; and many wonderful friends. His passing leaves a void in
the hearts of his family and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday,
May 25, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mt. Olympus Stake Center, 4176 South Adonis

Hawks, Verlyn E.
Verlyn E. Hawks 1923 ~ 2005 Verlyn E. Hawks, 81, of Ephraim, Utah passed away
in Orem Thursday May 19, 2005 less than a month after his sweetheart of 57
years passed away. Verlyn never liked being away from Grace very long in life
and didn't wait long to join her in death. Verlyn was born September 12, 1923
in Gooding, Idaho and raised on the family farm just out of town. He met Grace
Jorgenson in Provo, Utah and they were married in Ephraim on March 28, 1948.
Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 23, 1951.
They are the parents of seven children, 27 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, Verlyn was always faithful in his many callings and in
adherence to the doctrines of the Church. In 1952, during the Korean war, when
the church was not able to call young unmarried men to serve missions, Verlyn,
at the encouragement of Grace, left her and their two sons in the care of her
parents and served a two year mission to Colorado and Wyoming. He did
extensive genealogy and temple work for his ancestors and actively shared the
Gospel with others. Verlyn loved the scriptures and attending the temple and
did both right up to the end of his life. Verlyn spent over 30 years as a
teacher in a number of positions and schools throughout the western U.S,
including Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, and California. He had a special love
and interest in teaching and helping Native Americans and devoted a large
portion of his career, his free time and resources in their behalf. Verlyn
also spent a time serving as a foreign student advisor at Utah State
University and was well loved by those he served. One of Verlyn's greatest
legacies is his hard work and his desire to instill a strong work ethic in his
children. During many of his summers, when not teaching or continuing his
education, Verlyn spent time working beside his children hauling hay, picking
fruit, hoeing beans, doing yard work, etc. He wanted his children to learn to
be hard workers more than he wanted to earn extra money or do recreational
activities. He was also known for his willingness to help those in need.
Whether it be stopping to push someone out of a snow drift, loaning his car to
a friend, or driving several hours to bring those without transportation to
church, he was always looking for ways to help. Verlyn is survived by his
children, Gene (K.C.), Beryl, Val (Julie), Vernon (Barbara), Verlyn (Colleen),
Alan (Debbie), and Verlil (Donny). He is also survived by one brother, Don. He
is preceded in death by wife, Grace; his parents, Clyde and Vera; brothers,
Beryl and Velpo; and grandson, Colby. Services will be held Monday, May 23,
2005 at 12 noon in the Ephraim Stake Center, 400 E. Center, with a viewing
Monday morning prior to the funeral, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment will be
held at the Ephraim City Cemetery under the direction of Rasmussen Mortuary.
We, as the family, would like to thank all those who have helped and
befriended mom and dad through the years and the many different places they
lived. We especially would like to thank those who helped them and brought joy
to them in the last few years of their life. Good bye Dad, you are back with
Mom again. Give her a hug from us and God be with you till we meet again.

Hodges, Mitchell Larmer (Mick)
Mitchell Larmer (Mick) Hodges "A Man of Strength" Mick Hodges, 74, passed
away, surrounded by his loving family, May 18, 2005. He was born May 12, 1931
in Adamsville, UT, son of Fredrick Lamar and Elva Littlefield Hodges. He
married his sweetheart and life long companion, Edna Gwen Black on September
16, 1951. They had five children. Mick's family was his life long calling,
serving them well. He was their hero. He was an inspector for UDOT for 31
years. Prior to that he worked as a water driller. He was known for "Water
Witching" with 100% success. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting,
fishing and camping. He took great pride in his garden, generously sharing the
produce with family and friends. Survived by his wife; children, Gwendolyn
(Jerry) Averett, Meadow, UT; Connie (Craig) Teeples, Fillmore, UT; Tamra
Peterson, Fillmore, UT; Michael (Carma) Hodges, Holden, UT; Nancy (Jamie)
Orton, Salt Lake City, UT; sister, Colleen (Maurice) Laughery, Beaver, UT;
brothers, Eugene Hodges, Beaver, UT; Steven (Kenna) Hodges, Beaver, UT.
Preceded in death by parents; and sister Betty. Funeral Services will be held
Monday, May 23 at 12:00 Noon in the Fillmore 1st Ward Chapel. Friends may call
Monday from 10:00-11:30 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will
be in the Fillmore City Cemetery under the direction of Rasmussen Mortuary.

Howard, Eva Lorraine Marshall
Eva Lorraine Marshall Howard 1927 ~ 2005 MORGAN - On May 18, 2005 our mom made
her final journey home. She was born July 19, 1927, a daughter of Virgil and
Verda Sumpter Marshall. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (Richard)
Lynch, Judy (Norris) Kippen, Dixie L. (Kenneth) Gagon, Terrie L. (Donald)
Carlson and her son, Amasa Ray (Patty) Howard. Also surviving are 36
grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great great-grandchildren. Eva
was a homemaker and had worked at K-Mart in Bountiful. She was dearly loved
and will be missed by all. Graveside services will be held Monday, May 23,
2005 at 12 noon in the South Morgan Cemetery. Friends and family may call at

Jenson, Afton Maurine
Afton Maurine Jenson 1920 ~ 2005 Afton Jenson, age 85, passed away peacefully
Friday, May 20, 2005. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, January 4, l920,
to Alfred and Ella Ellefsen. She married Ferrin W. Jenson, on June 18, 1938.
Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on their 20th
anniversary. Afton was a loving mother who supported her family in all of its
activities, including missions and sporting events. She was truly one of that
great generation who experienced the trials of World War II. In her youth,
Afton developed a love for sports, dancing, and music. She shared fond
memories of dancing at Saltair with Ferrin and their friends. Afton is
survived by three sons, Wayne (Dorleen), Robert (Cheri), Doug (Debbie);and a
daughter, Sharon (Don) Beuch. Afton will be loved, missed, and remembered, by
her four children; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and one great
great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferrin; brother,
Howard; and two great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Crosslands and
Manor Care for the attentive care given Afton during her stay at their
facilities. Thank you, Sharon, for the loving care you gave Mom. Funeral
services will be held on Monday, May 23, 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Estates
(Mountain View), 3115 E. 7800 S., Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held one

Lear, Col. Frank Lester
Colonel (Ret.) Frank Lester Lear 10/12/1914~5/16/2005 Co1. Frank Lester Lear,
U.S. Army (ret). passed away peacefully to join his impatient wife, Dorothy,
Monday, May 16,2005. Frank was born, the youngest child of James William and
Eva Noble Lear, in LeMoille, nestled in the foothills of the Ruby Mountains of
Nevada, October 12, 1914. This past October, Granddad, along with his sons and
grandsons, visited his childhood home for his last time. Frank attended and
graduated from Utah State University with an accounting degree and MPA at the
University of Minnesota. At Utah State he affiliated with the Pi Kappa Alpha
Fraternity, and, while there, he met Dorothy Pond. They were married in the
Logan Temple Sept. 21,1937. They shared 67 years together before she passed
away Memorial Day, 2004. Frank was truly an officer and a gentleman. He served
his country as an officer in the U.S. Army on many assignments including San
Francisco 1941; Iran and Iraq 1943; Italy 1946; Korea 1951; Greenland 1953;
and Berlin, Germany 1958. He retired to Farmington, Utah in 1965 where he
shared his home with in-laws and visiting friends and relatives for 40 years.
After his retirement from the Army he worked for DELGER Corporation and as the
fleet manager for Salt Lake County until he went home to work for Dorothy in
1985. Frank was a man of few words, but a living example of personal thrift,
generosity of means and spirit, devotion to his wife, and loyalty to his
family and community. He was a longtime Scout; and, in 1962, the Boy Scouts of
America awarded him the Silver Beaver. He was a member of the Farmington 2nd
Ward of the LDS Church. He is survived by two sons, Phillip Wm. (Doreen) and
Jon Martin (Carol), both of Salt Lake City. He loved his grandchildren,
Preston (Angela Galle-gos), Katherine Lear Maxwell (Dan-iel), Jonathan
(Kelly), Daniel (Suzanne), Benjamin (and soon, Ashley), and Alexis. His
grandchildren reciprocated his love by assisting with weekly shopping,
banking, haircuts, and other necessary diversionary excursions. Granddad has
two great-grandchil-dren, Madeline Maxwell (4), and James Albert Lear (4
weeks). He also loved an adopted daughter, Dr. Petra Novotny Joseph (Chicago,
IL). He appreciated the love Janet Brown Lear showed him before her death in
2003. His wife, Dorothy; and a son, James Phillip, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple in Salt
Lake, Tuesday May 24, 10:30 a.m., where friends and family may call one hour
prior. Interment, Logan City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. The family expresses
gratitude to the Farmington 2nd Ward whose members so patiently and
persistently assisted Frank and Dorothy for many years and the Utah State
Veterans Nursing Home staff that provided friends, colleagues and care for the
past 10 months. Plant a rose bush, salute the flag, hug a child or spouse in
memory of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Lowe, Raymond Charles
Raymond Charles Lowe 1933 ~ 2005 Raymond Charles Lowe, age 71, passed away May
11, 2005 in Montpelier, ID, surrounded by his family. Ray was born Sept.16,
1933 in New York City, NY to Sam Serio and Dorothy Walsh. Married Reah Allen
in 1952; later divorced. Married Veronica Godek Aug. 19, 1968. He worked in
the beer distribution business in Salt Lake City, UT until he purchased the
Canyon Inn in Salt Canyon, Wyoming in 1972. Ray was respected and beloved by
many. A man of principle, he lived life honorably and on his own terms. He
enjoyed the outdoors and the company of family and friends. He is survived by
his wife, Veronica; son, Mark (Julie) Lowe, daughter, San-dra (Blaine) Holt,
both of So. Jordan, UT; stepchildren, Donald Hulsizer, West Valley City, UT,
LouAnn (John) Vandomburg, Salt Lake City, UT, Michelle (R.T.) Lapp, and John
Martin, both of Wyoming. He is grandfather to 19 grandchildren, and many
great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; and stepdaughter, Paula
Thuline. Family and friends are invited to attend a wake, which will be held
in celebration of Ray's life Saturday, May 28th from 3-7 p.m. at the Canyon
Inn, Hwy 89, Salt Canyon, WY.

Matheson, Iris Maxwell
Iris Maxwell Matheson "Mama-We Love You" Iris Maxwell Matheson, age 87, passed
away on May 19, 2005. She was born March 10, 1918 in Kanab, Utah to Charles
and Josephine Maxwell. She married Barnard Webster Matheson on February 6,
1937. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and
was a primary president for 25 years, as well as active in other church
auxiliaries. She was PTA President, worked for JC Penney for many years, and
was a member of Sweet Adelines. She is preceded in death by her parents, her
husband, and her daughter, Janice Bodily. She is survived by her sister,
Louella Knight, and brother, Art V. Maxwell and Ronald Maxwell; her children,
Sally Jo (Dick) McMurdie, Jack (Karla) Matheson, Jean (Ron) Smith, Jill (Royd)
White, and Kay (Michael) Quinn; 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2005 at Riverside Ward
Chapel, 1150 W. 500 North, with a viewing one hour prior. Family and friends
may call from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood

Robert Little Moyle 1914 ~ 2005 Born January 8, 1914 to Franklin Cannell and
Katherine Little Moyle. Died May 18, 2005. Preceded in death by wife, Camilla;
grandson, Robert; and sister, Rebecca Alder. Survived by son, Frank Moyle
(Lyn); grandson, Rowe; and sister, Marilyn Gunderson. Robert served a LDS
mission in France. Later in life served a mission with wife, Camilla, in
Canada. He lived as he died, a true gentleman. Heartfelt thanks to Robert's

Joan Neilson Nelson 1927 ~ 2005 Joan Neilson Nelson, age 78, passed away May
19, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born January 10, 1927 in Salt Lake
City to Annie Livingston and Perry Neilson. She married Calvin L. Nelson on
November 27, 1962 in Salt Lake City. She loved her children and grandchildren.
Studied art at McCune School of Music and Art, and University of Utah. Member
of Women in Arts, Washington D.C. Won many awards in the art world. Placed
second in Equitable Life art contest. Exhibited Springfield's Art Museum.
Exhibited and sold art through the "C" gallery. Joan a was true Holladay girl.
She attended Holladay Elementary, Granite High and lived most of her life in
Holladay. Survived by Calvin L Nelson; daughter, Dr. Rebecca Ann Drinkaus
(Phill); sons, Todd N. Nelson (Donna), and William Daniel Bunker; sister, June
Adamson; and three grandchildren, Perry, Dylan and Annie. Preceded in death by
parents, Annie and Perry Nielson. Graveside services will be held Thursday,
May 26, 2005, 11 a.m. at the Holladay Cemetery, 4900 S. and Highland Dr. A
celebration of Joan's life and art work will be held at the Salt Lake Country

Virginia Olson Bostrom Nimmo "Boots" Ada Virginia Nimmo passed away May 20,
2005, at Ogden Regional Hospital. Born in Murray, Utah to John A. and Adla
(Nygren) Olson, September 23, 1911. Graduated from Granite High School.
Married Ralph J. Bostrom March 12, 1929. He passed away December 29, 1956.
Married William A. Nimmo June 14, 1958. He passed away April 22, 1981. Worked
various positions prior to retiring from Salt Lake School District after 26
years. Lived in Ogden, Utah with her daughter for past eleven and one-half
years. Survived by two children, Ralph L. (Merlyn) Bostrom of Riverside, CA;
and Ann (Boyd) Groberg of Ogden, UT; six grandchildren; 15
great-grand-children and one great great-grandchild. Predeceased by her
parents; her sister, Mabel Olson Anderson; and her brother LeRoy Olson.
Graveside services to be held Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Wasatch Lawn Memorial

Carroll Gordon Robinson 1925 ~ 2005 Carroll Gordon Robinson, age 79, departed
planet earth May 15, 2005 in Draper Rehab. He was born October 4, 1925 in
Parkers Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Ethel and Rollins Robinson, the fifth of
five children. The family moved to Massachusetts a year later. Carroll is
survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilhelmina Louise; a daughter, Carol Louise
(Ronald) Potter; a son, Gordon William Robinson; grandchildren, Jason (Holly)
Potter, Daniel (Denica) Potter, Sarah (Allen) Jackson, Rebecca Potter;
great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Potter, Isabella Jackson, Grace Frigm,
Christian Jackson, Brennon Potter, Alexis Potter. Preceded in death by both
parents; sister, Abby; and three brothers, Herbert, Kenneth, Byron. Moved to
Utah in 1956 along with his wife, Wilhelmina; and daughter, Carol Louise.
Served in the United States Army during World War II in England, France, and
Germany. In keeping with his wishes his remains will be cremated. There will
be no funeral, no viewing and no memorial service. To my wife, children,
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and to all whose life has touched mine
during my many years on planet earth - You will not find me in any cemetery,
but rather I will be in any of Utah's wonderful canyons, in a quiet spot with
the wind blowing through the leaves of the trees, making music you have to
hear to appreciate. For those in Massachusetts - When walking along the rocky
shores of New England, the waves are pounding against the rocks from a storm
far at sea, salt spray stinging your face, that is where I'll be. When not
occupied with either of these, look up on a clear night, I will be up there
among the planets, the moons, the stars, the galaxies, and even beyond,
soaring free, forever.

Savage, Shirlene Neuffer
Shirlene Neuffer Savage We love you Shirlene passed away May 18, 2005 after a
courageous battle with cancer. Born Jan. 14, 1937 in Bingham Can-yon to Melvin
and Eveline Cornell Neuffer. She graduated from Jordan High and married Gene
Savage in 1955. They raised their four children, Kelly (Sandra), Todd (Gail),
Staci Dunn (Pat), and Wendy Macaluso (Tom) in Draper, UT She had 17
grandchildren, one great-grandchild on the way, and two step
great-grandchildren. Her sisters are Holly, Sue, JuLee, and Darla. Mom's first
passion was her family and the get-togethers. She loved her many pets and
freely gave to many animal shelters and organizations. She never missed a
garage sale or bargain. Her second home was in Page, AZ. Preceded in death by
her parents; and her sister, Kay. Services will be held Monday, May 23, 2005

Schultz, Christie Nielson
Christie Nielson Schultz 1911 ~ 2005 Christie Catherine Nielson Schultz,
treasured mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away May 18, 2005 at the
home of her daughter, surrounded by her beloved family. Born in Manti, Utah
November 10, 1911 a daughter of David and Mary Nielson. She grew up in Manti
and attended Manti schools. Served an LDS mission in San Diego, California.
Married Henry Lee Schultz December 21, 1935 in the Manti LDS Temple. They
lived in Nevada for a short time before moving back to Utah where they lived
in Salt Lake City more than 50 years. She had many positions in the Primary
and Relief Society, but her main love was the music in which she worked for
more than 30 years. At age 93, she remained strong and wise reminding family
members of important birthdays and anniversaries. She will be greatly missed
by her family and friends and all who knew her. Survived by five daughters,
Mari-anna Bolinder (Earl), Sylvia Schultz, Nancy Vaughn (Dave), Linda Valerio
(Max), and Christie Schultz, all residing in Salt Lake City; eight
grandchildren, and 11 great grand-children, who were the highlight of her
life. Also, a daughter, she and Lee had adopted with love, Judy Lund. Funeral
services will be held Monday, May 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Eleventh Ward
chapel, 951 East 100 South. Friends may call Sunday evening 6-8 p.m. at the

Speirs passed away peacefully at home at the age of 86, May 15, 2005. She was
born March 16, 1919, in Salt Lake City to Arthur H. and Elizabeth M. Perschon.
She married Harold K. Speirs; later divorced. She is survived by children, Ken
(Liz), Art (Maria), Randy (Rita), Brent (Ann), and Becky; 10 grandchildren;
nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Perschon (Murial), George Perschon
(Renee); and sister, June BeCar (Noel); longtime friend and companion, William

Janette Ruth Sprunt 1940 ~ 2005 MAGNA - Janette Ruth Sprunt, 64, returned
peacefully to her Heavenly Father May 20, 2005 at her home in Magna, Utah. She
was born September 8, 1940 in Ouray, Colorado. Janette lived for her
grandchildren, who adored her in return. She enjoyed being a member of the LDS
church and was thrilled to help anyone in need. She was a true friend and a
soul to always rely on. Janette was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles,
and watching her mystery theaters. Survived by her mom, Margaret Rose Marino;
dad, Ferral J. Ogilvie; children, Ferral K. Robinson, Lynn M. Robinson, Kent
E. Robinson, Diana K. Jordan, Michielle V. Joseph, and Lori A. Tonge; 11
grandchildren, Rodney, Richard, Matthew, Wreatha, Brittanie, Andrew, J.J.,
Stephanie, Brandon, Nathaniel, and Jonathon; seven brothers; four sisters;
many nieces and nephews. She will be truly missed but not forgotten. Memorial

Stanbrough, Cecil George
Cecil George Stanbrough "Pops - Tex" 8/12/1924 ~ 5/20/2005 Pops passed away
from heart failure after a short stay in the hospital. Pops served in the
United States Army during World War II where he was awarded two Purple Hearts.
He received an honorable discharge in 1947. Pops drove trucks for 35 years
driving both long-haul and construction. He retired from the Teamster #222 in
1985. After retiring, Pops enjoyed traveling with his wife, Dorothy, in their
motor home until her health would no longer allow them. Pops enjoyed going out
to play pool while visiting with his long-time friends. Pops is survived by
his sons and their wives, Cecil Jr. and Deanna of Henderson, NV; Frank and
Jayann of Las Vegas, NV; and Robert and JoAnn of Salt Lake City, UT; and many
grand and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy
O. Harris Stanbrough (1994); parents, Orvin C. and Nellie Curtis Stanbrough;
brother, Orvin C. Jr.; daughter, Betty; and son, Smoky. A viewing will be held
May 24, 2005 from 10-11 a.m. prior to his graveside service at Redwood Meorial
Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Rd. The family would like to thank all of those who
called or came by to see Pops, especially Dr. Mark Shepherd, Dr. Robert
Fowles, the nurses, aides, and staff at LDS Hospital that took such great care
of Pops in his final days.

Tavoian, Ella Faun Carlston
Ella Faun Carlston Tavoian 1919 ~ 2005 Ella Faun Carlston Tavoian, Salt Lake
City, Utah, 85, passed away peacefully May 20, 2005 from diabetic
complications. Faun was born November 27, 1919 in Murray, Utah, the sixth
child of James Albert Carlston and Etta May Hamilton. She graduated from
Granite High School and attended Utah State University. On April 26, 1946 Faun
and LaMar Arzuman Tavoian were married and sealed for time and all eternity in
the Salt Lake Temple. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served in several positions
including Stake and Ward Relief Society President, Primary President, Visiting
Teacher, Cub Scout Leader and various other positions. Faun was a very kind,
loving mother, who was concerned about others and always ready and willing to
help. She was the recipient of the Good Samaritan Award presented by the Salt
Lake Public Communications of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
and KTVX Television. She was a volunteer at the Primary Children's Medical
Center for several years and was awarded the Vital Volunteer Award. She loved
to sew and was a master seamstress, teaching others her skills. She shared her
talents with everyone. She was highly involved in 4-H and served in various
leadership positions. She received the Utah Farm Bureau 4-H Leadership Award.
She was in her element with gardening and shared that beauty with all. She had
a love for animals and had several house pets that she adored. Faun is
survived by her seven children, LaMar A (Diane) Tavoian, Jr., Covington,
Texas; Linda May (Brent) Perry, Farmington, Utah; Jim Tavoian, Salt Lake City,
Utah; Pat (Blair) Holding, Kaysville, Utah; Max Kent (Shaila) Tavoian, Malad,
Idaho; Tania Faun (Gary) Bishoff, Monroe, Utah; Brian K Tavoian, Cedar City,
Utah; 38 grandchildren; and 13 great-grand- children. She was preceded in
death by her husband, LaMar Arzuman Tavoian, Sr.; her brother, Max Albert
Carlston; sisters, Mary Ethel Brown, Irma Margaret Cundick, Etta Pearl
Carlston, Rubye Fern Lynch; and her daughter-in-law, Sherry Lynn Tavoian. The
family gives a very special thank you to all of the wonderful friends,
neighbors and loved ones who cared for and associated with her throughout her

Thomas, Brandon James
Brandon James Thomas 1978 ~ 2005 SERGEANT BRANDON JAMES THOMAS, "Beej",
transitioned from reality to spirituality on May 7, 2005. Brandon (age 27) was
murdered in Baghdad while on a protective detail mission, serving the war
effort and the war on terrorism, as a Department of Defense contractor.
Al-Qaida in Iraq claimed responsibility for the car bomb. Brandon is our
fallen hero. He is survived by his "little" brother Andy; his father, Steve
Thomas and stepmother Debby; his mother, Carol Thomas Young and stepfather
Brian Young; grandmother, Lorraine Thomas and (special grandma) Harriett Rhea.
Many people, who loved him dearly, including his extended family and friends,
will miss Brandon. Brandon happily lived every moment with pure excitement. He
was an extreme skier, avid golfer, fisherman, and motorcyclist. He loved
Jesus, children and proudly serving his country. He personally adopted the
Special Forces motto, "De Oppresso Liber"... Freedom to the Oppressed. Brandon
was a member of the 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Utah Army National
Guard. He graduated from Cottonwood High School, class of 1996. He was a ski
instructor at Deer Valley. He spoke Spanish and learned Indonesian while
finishing his Green Beret Qualification at Ft. Bragg. NC. Services will be
held Tues., May 24th, 10:00 a.m., at The Adventure Foursquare Church, 352 W.

Tippets, Frances Hayward
Frances Hayward Tippets 1925 ~ 2005 Frances H. Tippets, 80, died May 19, 2005
in Salt Lake City. Born February 2, 1925, St. Louis, Missouri to Dr. James C.
and Marian Smith Hayward. Married Richard W. Tippets September 18, 1946,
Logan, Utah. Later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Frances was a full-time
homemaker. Her family was her first priority. She made many sacrifices for her
children and loved them dearly. Member LDS Church. Served as Primary teacher,
counselor in ward Primary presidency, member ward choir, as well as in the
names extraction program. Graduate Utah State University. Member Chi Omega
sorority. Active in PTA. Volunteer Utah Museum of Fine Arts. Member DUP. Loved
classical music, especially piano music, and held season tickets to Utah
Symphony for many years. Worked at ZCMI department store for several years
after her children were reared. Survivors, husband; four children, Mrs. R.
Bennion (Carol) Nilsen, Mrs. Theodore R. (Janet) Small, Dr. Richard H.
(Kristi) Tippets, Mr. Gregory C. Tippets, all Salt Lake City; 10
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Boyd E. (Mirella)
Hayward of Paradise Valley, Arizona; one sister, Mrs. Quinn L. (Mari-an)
Hutchinson of Pinewood, Arizona. Preceded in death by brother, James C.
Hayward, Jr. Funeral services Tuesday, May 24, 11 a.m., Foothill 6th Ward
meeting house, 2215 Roosevelt Ave. (1455 So.) Friends may call at Larkin
Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 So., Mon. 6-7:30 p.m. or at the ward
9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. Burial, Preston (Idaho) City Cemetery.

of Caresource for caring for Frances during the last years of her life. In

Turner, Daryl Nielson
Daryl Nielson Turner 5/24/15 ~ 5/19/05 Daryl Ione Nielson Turner, our dear
mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother, aunt, sister, and friend died
peacefully May 19, 2005. She was born May 24, 1915 in her parent's home in
Hunter, UT. She was the mother of three children, Jerry (Shirly), David
(LaVon), and Donna Clark (Dee), the grandmother of 10, and the
great-grandmother of 12, the 13th due later this year. Daryl attended school
at Whittier Elementary, Cyprus Junior High, and Cyprus High School. She
married Mayo George Turner July 24, 1937. They were later sealed in the Salt
Lake LDS Temple. She worked at Granite Furniture from 1955 to1956. In 1956,
she went to work for First Security Bank and worked there until her retirement
in 1976. Daryl lost her sight to macular degeneration over the years but
maintained a quick wit about her and was always laughing at something. She was
bright and articulate, winning many of the "trivial pursuit" games at Legacy
House. She loved her family and she loved her church. Her goal was to live
until her 90th birthday, which she missed by just five days. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Mayo; her son, Jerry; her parents; three brothers; a
sister; and other dear relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held
Tuesday, May 24th, her 90th birthday, in the Mt. Olympus 10th Ward chapel at
3610 East 3510 South, Salt Lake City, UT. A viewing will be held that same
morning from 10:30-11:45 a.m. with the funeral immediately following at 12
noon. She will be buried in the Tooele City Cemetery next to her husband,
Mayo. We will miss you everyday, Mom, but we know that you are with your loved
ones and can see again! Our family wishes to thank Legacy House Assisted
Living for their kindness and care during the four years she lived with them.
Their staff should have wings and halos for all they did for her. We would
also like to thank Affinity Hospice for their gentle care during the last few
days of her life.

Vaterlaus, Elsa Hale
Elsa Hale Vaterlaus 1915 ~ 2005 Elsa Hale Vaterlaus celebrated her 90th
birthday April 16, 2005, surrounded by a hundred loving family members and
friends. Elsa was born in Afton Wyoming, the eighth of 12 children of Morris
J. Hale (son of Jonathan H. Hale) and Lois Call Hale. She was the last
surviving sibling in her immediate family. Elsa passed away Wednesday, May
18th at her home in Salt Lake City. Elsa remembered her earlier times, "My
childhood days were happily spent with brothers and sisters and cousins by the
dozen, playing and enjoying farm life. My chores included helping around the
house, planting gardens and weeding, picking berries, feeding chickens and
gathering eggs." She also loved to go to the meadow where the cows were kept
in the summer to help with the milking. Picnics, overnights in a cabin, and an
occasional fishing trip with her father provided special treats. She relished
sighting her favorite bluebirds while enjoying the outdoors. Elsa received a
4H/Union Pacific scholarship to attended Utah State Agricultural College (now
Utah State University) in Logan Utah. While a student there, she lived with
her sister, Lois, and her family, helping out where she could. In 1937 Elsa
married Leo Vaterlaus. She graduated from college in 1938 with a degree in
education, a major accomplishment for the time. Together, Leo and Elsa
traveled and lived in many parts of Wyoming while Leo worked for the telephone
company. The family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1952. Leo continued to
work for the telephone company until he retired in 1967. Elsa taught school,
first in Kearns, then at Millcreek Elementary until she retired from teaching
after 24 years. Elsa was a fine seamstress having made many beautiful outfits
over the years using the sewing skills she developed as a child working on 4-H
projects. Over the years the Vaterlaus family enjoyed many activities
together. Returning to Wyoming to visit friends and family was a favorite
vacation retreat. Elsa would often accompany Leo on the piano while he sang.
Some of the songs they shared were "Danny Boy", "Harbor Lights", and many
hymns. They loved dancing together and attended many church balls. Elsa held
many positions in the church including Primary, Mutual, Sunday School and
Relief Society over the years. She was also active in the Daughters of the
Utah Pioneers. Leo Vaterlaus passed away in 1993. They were married for 55
years. Elsa enjoyed gardening, sewing and traveling. Elsa has been to
Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, the Philippines, enjoyed a Caribbean cruise and
many visits to her children living in Oregon and Alaska. She enjoyed
excursions to Branson with her friend, Mildred Shaw. Elsa was an elegant lady
and enjoyed reasonably good health most of her life. She has a strong
testimony of the gospel of the church. She was a loving mother, grandmother
and great-grandmother, and was a positive influence and inspiration to those
who knew and loved her. Her three children and their spouses survive her, Kay
and Robert Haneline, Anchorage Alaska, Quinn Vaterlaus and Monica Lewis,
Anchorage, Alaska, and Lee and EllenVaterlaus of Salem, Oregon. Grandchildren
include Randie Mead, Colby Schmidt, Susan McGee, Bradley Vaterlaus, Meredith
Vaterlaus; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 24, 12 noon at the Gregson Ward,
3135 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Viewing will be one hour prior to the
services. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Vigil, Sylvia Marie
Sylvia Marie Vigil "Forever in Our Hearts" On May 19, 2005, after a short
illness, Sylvia left to join the loved ones she so truly missed in her life.
She was born on May 8, 1924 in Penasco, New Mexico to Maria Inacita and Abel
Gallegoes. Later moved to Bingham Canyon. She owned and operated the "Ramblin
Rose" in Midvale. Graduated from LDS Business College. Her career and passion
was nursing. She worked at Holy Cross Hospital and later for skilled nursing
facilities. She cared for her patients with tenderness, compassion and
respect, all of which was returned in her time of need. She loved cooking,
shopping, traveling and camping, which she shared with friends and family.
Sylvia was a proud, strong, and beautiful woman who taught us, as a family, to
have fun with life, to love and reach out to others, to know that you could
succeed at anything you put your mind to, and to be independent. She was
always there for us. "Oh, well" (as she would say). Survived by daughters,
Carman Farr, Rita (Danny) Zagarich, Deanna Vigil; brother, Jose Gallegoes;
three grandchildren, Chris, Anna, and Dennill; and three great-grandchildren.
"GG," we love you!. Preceded in death by husband, Ernest; sons, Paul and Max;
sister, Bertha. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to
Cottonwood ICU. A special thanks to Evelyn for her compassion and Mary Reeves
for her guidance. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, May 25, 10:00 a.m. at
St. Therese Catholic Church, 642 West Lemox Street (7870 South). Viewing with
Rosary will be Tuesday, May 24, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South
Redwood Road, and Wednesday, one hour prior to Mass. Interment, Redwood

Ward, Thora Wilson
Thora Wilson Ward 9/29/1916 ~ 5/18/2005 Thora Wilson Ward passed away
peacefully May 18, 2005 at the age of 88. She was born in Ogden, Utah
September 29, 1916 to Elbert Fairchild Wilson and Annabelle Brown Wilson. She
was dearly beloved by her husband, children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren. She was always sweet and kind to all of us, even during
trials. She married Delbert Jones (D.J.) Ward September 5, 1934 in the Salt
Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They moved to
California for D.J. to pursue a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering at
Cal Tech. They lived in California most of their lives, and raised a family of
six sons and two daughters. The Gospel of Jesus Christ was taught continually
in their home, as part of the fabric of living. She was slow to anger, and
there was always a sweet spirit in her home. She served as scouting leader for
many years, and she loved helping young men to learn to serve others and
believe in God. She also served in the Relief Society and Young Women's MIA,
but was always called back to help with Scouting again. She received the
Silver Beaver award after 27 years of service in Scouting. Although too poor
to finish High School, she learned to read with great expression by reading to
her blind father. She loved to dance, and she learned to sing harmony with her
older sisters. She cherished the years she spent as a member of the Mormon
Choir of Southern California. She took great delight in having traveled to
England with her husband, for business and for genealogical research. She was
greeted in heaven by her husband, D.J. Ward; and by her second son, Delbert
Wilson Ward. She is survived by her brother, Raymond Wilson; by 152
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by seven of her own children,
Russell Ward, Marvin Ward, Raymond Ward, Lorin Ward, Janie Ward, Wendy Almond,
and Timothy Ward. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 23, 2005, 11 a.m.
at the LDS Chapel, 235 E. Sego Lilly Drive (9800 South), Sandy, Utah. Friends
may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295
North Main, Bountiful, Utah and Monday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the

Wardle, Howard
Howard Wardle Will Be Missed Howard Wardle returned to our Father in Heaven
Friday, May 20, 2005. There, he will be welcomed by his loving wife and
sweetheart Bernice; his son, Rand; his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
He leaves behind six children, Gary (Garda), Pam (Larry) Barnes, Cliff
(JoAnne), Valerie (Ted) Sproul, Shawn (Marie), Kent (Toni); 20 grandchildren;
32 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Don. Dad left the world a better
place for having lived here. This can be seen in the lives he touched as a
husband, father, grandfather and friend. He served two missions for the LDS
Church, was the bishop of the 30th Ward and was a sealer at the Jordan River
LDS Temple. There are three words that stand out in describing his life. Work
ethic: whenever he was physically able he was working (and sometimes even when
he was not physically able) he could be found fixing up his home, working on a
new project or helping others. He needed to work. Testimony: Dad lived a life
of faith and testimony. He loved our Lord and Savor. It showed in his actions,
in his callings and in his dealings with everyone. Those who knew him, knew of
his faith and testimony. He loved his work at the Jordan River Temple.
Strengths: he was physically large in stature and strong willed. Although he
had a mind of his own, his compassion and consideration for others was larger
than life. He will be truly missed by all. Services will be held Tuesday, May
24, 2005 12:00 noon at the River Ridge Chapel, 10200 S. 1300 West, adjacent to
the Jordan River Temple. The family will receive friends Monday, May 23, 2005
from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at River Ridge Chapel. Interment,

Whipp, Fenton Walter
Fenton Walter Whipp 1924 ~ 2005 Fenton Walter Whipp, age 80, died May 20, 2005
in West Valley City. Born July 26, 1924 in Sandy, UT, a son of Walter W. and
Alice Fenton Whipp. He married LaRue Mausley January 21, 1949. He served in
World War II in the Marine Corps. He worked at Kennecott Copper Corp. for 34
years. He loved golfing, fishing and bowling. He and his wife were able to go
on lots of trips after he retired. Survived by his wife; sons, Ronald F.
(Karen) Whipp of South Jordan; Blaine Whipp of West Valley City; sister,
Jeanne Hendry of Magna; three grandsons, Chris (Peggy) Whipp of West Valley;
David (Jessika) Whipp, Oregon; Jason (Jennifer) Whipp, West Jordan; six great-
grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law. Preceded in death
by parents. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2005, 12 noon, at
Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South. A viewing will be Monday, 6-8
p.m., and Tuesday, 11-11:45 a.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood
Road.

Wood, Lillian Berry
Lillian Berry Wood 4/17/1925 ~ 5/18/2005 Our beloved mother, grandmother,
teacher, and friend returned home after a long journey of challenges. She was
born in Salt Lake City to Earl C. and Lucy Lee Berry. She loved and gave her
heart to her husband, Streeper W. Wood. They were married in the Salt Lake
Temple October 28, 1947. Lillian was an extraordinary woman who was an example
of love, sacrifice, and strength. She has patiently endured many afflictions
and never lost her faith. She was a wonderful mother and her children are so
grateful for her. Her love was only equaled by her intelligence. Lillian
graduated from the University of Utah Summa Cum Laude in the top 10% in the
nation and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Lillian was also a dedicated junior
high and high school teacher for 21 years. She loved history and politics and
was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Democratic Party. Survived
by her son, Mark Berry Wood (Gayle); three daughters, Mary Ann Wood Ebert
(Mark), Susie Wood Spindler (Curtis), and Lucy Jane Wood Jordan; six
grandchildren, Adam, Sara, Eliot, Andrew, Garrett, and Monica; and her best
friend and sister, Joyce Berry Harbrecht. Preceded in death by her parents;
her husband; and sister, Erlene Berry Closser. Services will be held in the
LDS Maple Hills Chapel, 1320 East 1975 South, Bountiful, Monday, May 23, at 11
a.m. Friends may call at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main,
Bountiful, Sunday, May 22, from 6-8 p.m., or Monday morning at the chapel one

Wright, Albert John "Jack"
"Jack" Albert John Wright 1931 ~ 2005 Our beloved husband, father, grandpa,
great-grandpa, "Jack" Albert John Wright, died May 18, 2005 at his home with
his family. He was born December 13, 1931 in Lehi, Utah. He married Betty Jean
Phelps. Together they owned J & B Wright Sales. He also helped with Redwood
Elementary Headstart and Sub for Santa. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean
Wright; and children, Jackie Wright, Albert Earl Wright, Vera "Jin" Mae Jean
Richards; three grandchildren; five great-grand-children. Other survivors
include sisters, Karen Harland, Irene Wright, Ruth Copinga; brothers, Robert
Wright and Michael Wright. Services will be held at the Granger West Fourth
Ward, 3405 S. 3960 W. in West Valley City, Monday, May 23 from 4-6 p.m. He
loved to spend all of his vacations with his sister-in-Law, Dixie Wright. In
lieu of flowers, donations to Betty Jean Wright would be appreciated.
