Patience, dedication, and devotion characterized a long life (91 years) of service to family, church and community. Born June 4, 1914 to Peter Lorenzo and Isabel Carling Brunson in Fillmore Utah, this "tall dark and handsome" fellow married his sweetheart, Lena Mangum in the Salt Lake Temple on June 4, 1936. They loved to go on dates together - dinner, dancing, and theater. Together they embarked on a life-long journey of service in the LDS faith, Salt Lake community, and family. Bruns' community and professional service included Salt Lake Chamber, Sister Cities (where Mom and Dad traveled to Russia and Japan), Utah State Tax Commissioner, President of the Utah Association of CPA's and national and international accounting associations' boards. He also served as a volunteer in the LDS Church audit department. From 1978 to 1981, about 600 LDS missionaries called him President while presiding over the California Fresno mission. To his missionaries: he never stopped thinking of you and your welfare. His testimony of Jesus Christ and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints never wavered as he served in many callings throughout his life. He was a kind, wise father and exemplar to his three children Monti (Greg) Jones, Providence, UT; Marilee "Lee" Brunson, Phoenix, AZ; and Mark (Pamela) Brunson, Kaysville, UT; and to his 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his brother Brandon Brunson, sisters Marilyn Brunson and Helen Smedley, sisters-in-law Laveta Harvey and Leila Bradford. He is preceded in death by his sister Marjorie Robison, and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law. Special thanks to the many helpers, nurses and friends who helped care for Dad - you are wonderful. Jones, LaVon LaVon Jones 1919 ~ 2005 After several tender goodbyes from his wife and six surviving children, LaVon Jones let go of the hands that held his and passed away in his home on October 29, 2005. Though his family often joked about LaVon having nine plus lives, cancer was the only illness or accident from which he could not recover. He was born on May 25, 1919 in Enoch, Utah to Myron Simpkins and Mary Davenport Jones. He and his twin sister were raised on a farm with seven other siblings; four sisters and three brothers. LaVon lived a life dedicated to the gospel. He began his service to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a missionary in the Northern States Mission. He later served as a Bishop (13 years), a member of the Lakewood Colorado Stake Presidency and as a member of the Denver Temple Committee. LaVon founded his own business, Intermountain Wholesale in 1958. There were difficult times in the beginning, but it ultimately thrived under his hard work, integrity and commitment. His business remains in the family today. Dad loved Colorado. His family will always find his spirit in the cabin they built together in the Colorado Rockies. It was only after being diagnosed with cancer that he left the green mountains of Colorado and moved to Utah so he and Ruth could be close to their daughters. He lived in Perry, Utah surrounded by the orchards he loved for eight years. LaVon had a great love for his ancestry and subsequently he and Ruth served a mission to Martin's Cove, where he honored his pioneer heritage and the sacrifices his progenitors made.
