Dale K. Barker Sr. Gone fishin' & huntin' Dale K. Barker Sr., born Dec. 31, 1922 to Alma Moroni and Zelma Rachael (Everette) Barker, continued his journey to Heaven on Nov. 7, 2005. He founded and owned Big "B" Plumbing & Heating for 53 years. Dale served in the US Navy during World War II, served in the Salt Lake and Manti Temples for 28 years, volunteered services at senior centers and other organizations, was a life-time member of VFW Post 9276, American Legion Post 71, and survived the tornado of 1999. Dale married his loving soul mate of 58 years, Lenna Jean Edmunds, who will miss him dearly, on July 31, 1947 and later Solemnized in the Manti Temple on September 5, 1947. Survived by brother; Jay (Lorraine), sisters; Shirley and Alma, eight children; Carol Jean (Francis) Whitehead, Dale Ken Jr. (Sarah) Barker, (Keith) Harrop, Linda Diane (Mike) Dixon, Judy Kae Allen-Perfili (Mike) Perfili, David K. (Ann) Barker, Kathy Lucille (Brian) Fitzpatrick, Dwayne Kyrte (Cheri) Barker, very proud grandpa of 22, and great-grandpa of nine (two on the way). Preceded to Heaven by daughter, JoAnn Harrop, parents, two brothers, two sisters, and three babies he will finally hug. The family would like to thank Dr. G. Cole, Dr. C. Bernard, Mildred Adelaide Cox Mildred Adelaide Cox Bernard 1920 ~ 2005 Milly Bernard, of Kearns, Utah, passed away peacefully November 7, 2005 at home surrounded by her family and loved ones. Born May 28, 1920 in Brewster, Nebraska, daughter of Robert E. And Eleanor Jarvis Cox. She graduated with honors from Broken Bow High School, NE and then went to Denver with a Business College scholarship. Married Robert E. Workman; divorced. Married Rex E. Oberhansley; divorced. Married Lynn (Bud) Bernard February 5, 1972; he preceded her in death March 28, 1987. Moving into Kearns, as the 28th family, it became a challenge to make the community what it has become today. She helped organize the Kearns Town Council, which has been a model for Town Councils in the Salt Lake County area. She loved Kearns and was a member of the Kearns Town Council for many years, a charter member of the Kearns Water and Sewer District Board and the first woman member of the Salt Lake Planning and Zoning commission for 13 years. She was nominated Mrs. Kearns by the Kearns Town Council and "Woman of the Year 1982" by the Green Sheet and was thrilled when a street was named after her. In 1967 she was elected to the Utah State Legislature. During her subsequent five terms she was the Majority Whip, Minority and Majority Leader. As a legislator, she was involved in many Boards and Committees such as the Juvenile Court Governing Board, the Judicial Council, the Granite Mental Health Board, Community Action Board, the Social Services Committee, etc. From the Legislature she was appointed by Governor Rampton and reappointed by Governor Matheson to the Public Service Commission and served six years as Chairman until her retirement in 1982. She was always outspoken and having the strength of her conviction, she was involved in many controversial issues and faced them squarely, using her best judgement. Firmly believing in Women's Rights, she felt that action spoke louder than words and led by example with numerous firsts in many fields. While serving as a Legislator, she worked for THE EIMCO CORPORATION for 15 years and thoroughly enjoyed her positions there. Milly's whole life was spent fostering her family. Her mother, Eleanor, always lived close by until her death in 1985. Her children and grandchildren all live in the Salt Lake area. The love and devotion is being carried on by the second, third, fourth and fifth generations. Her marriage to Lynn (Bud) Bernard gave her 15 of the happiest years of her life. Since his death she has been living in Kearns in the summer and for many years lived in St. George in the winter and leaves many friends in both areas. She is survived by daughters: Judy Johnson and Carole E. (Walter) Jakeman; grandchildren: Mark R. (Teresa) Bliss, Matt Bliss, Kellie (Richard) Yeates; Daren (Alex) Jakeman, Shane (Andria) Jakeman, Nicole (Eric) Sorensen and Brian Jakeman; great-grandchildren: Stephanie (Justin) LeCheminant, Mark (Summer) Bliss, Matt Bliss, Dustin Bliss, Sarah (Jason) Pilch, Lindsay Yeates, Katelynn Yeates, Hannah Yeates, Sydney Jakeman, Dylan Jakeman, Nickolas Sorensen; great-great grandchild: Gatlin Bliss; step-daughter, Betty (Earl) Kenworthy; half-brother: Robert E. Beutler, David McAlister David McAlister Beutler 1950 ~ 2005 David McAlister Beutler passed away November 7, 2005 at the age of 55 of cancer. David was born October 12, 1950 in Provo, Utah to Alvin and Clarissa McAlister Beutler. He married Marene Siler in the Ogden Temple August 1, 1974. After completing a LDS Mission in Great Britain, he attended Weber State University where he graduated with a BS degree in Chemistry and Microbiology. He was employed 30 years by Thatcher Chemical Company. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many Church callings, currently serving as Secretary of the High Priest Group. He loved the outdoors where he spent many wonderful hours with his family. He loved hiking, fishing, and all the beauties of nature. He also enjoyed playing sports, working with wood, and fixing everything. He is survived by his wife, Marene; three sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew (Kathleen), Brian (Gretta), Chad; and two granddaughters, Clarissa and Eliza. He is also survived by his parents, mother and father-in-law: Genevie and Lawrence Siler, and siblings: Ruth Ann (John) Robson, Bonnie (Shaun) Story, and Park (Krista) Beutler and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bradford, John Henry John Henry Bradford 6/13/1951 ~ 11/6/2005 John Henry Bradford died peacefully November 6, 2005 from respiratory heart failure after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was a positive, fun-loving person and will be greatly missed. John was born June 13, 1951 to Henry Davis and Virginia Taylor Bradford. He attended East High School, graduating with the class of 1970. John loved engines and anything mechanical. In 1971 he attended United Airlines Jetma School in San Francisco. He was employed by Dunford Bakery for five years, and he worked two years at Utah Waste Paper Company. John also worked 16 years for the Salt Lake City School District until heart surgery and Multiple Sclerosis forced an early retirement. John enjoyed water sports, especially boating and using a water kite. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, trips to family cabins and any kind of camping activity. His family appreciated his ability to repair anything at a moment's notice. His talent for telling humorous stories will leave heart warming memories with family and friends. His spiritual insight and sensitivity blessed many lives. His creative talents extended to a love of music. John's perfect pitch benefited his performance on keyboard in several bands where he also played the drums. John was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite calling was working in the Salt Lake Temple, which he did from June 1995 to May 1998. John was the youngest of five children and the only boy. He very much appreciated his oldest sister Gerri's loving care in her home while recovering from heart surgery and dealing with MS related problems. He also felt blessed to be cared for by the outstanding staff at the Arlington Hills Care and Rehabilitation Center, Harmony Hospice and Hearts for Hospice for the past five years where he formed many wonderful friendships. Thank you Paul, Flora, Rosie, Linda, Betty, Nick and others who made each day of John's life peaceful and comfortable. He is survived by his four older sisters, Geraldine B. Russell, Salt Lake city; Marilyn B. Cutler (Kent), West Valley; Annette B. Dunford (Wyn), Seattle; and Barbara B. Brinton (Jim), Provo. He was preceded in death by his parents. Published in the Deseret News from 11/8/2005 - 11/9/2005. Christensen, Que H. Que H. Christensen 1919 ~ 2005 Que H. Christensen, age 86, passed away, unexpectedly, at his home on November 6, 2005. He was born May 10, 1919 in Mayfield, Utah to Clinton Hyrum and Alice E. Whitlock Christensen. He graduated from Manti High School in 1937. After graduation, he attended Snow College and Utah State University. As a young man he enlisted in the National Guard, completed Officers Candidate School, and served four years active duty as part of the 145th Field Artillery in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Que was honorably discharged from the service in 1946. He continued his military service in the Army Reserve and retired a Lieutenant Colonel in 1979. While in the service he married his high school sweetheart, Elma Hall. They were married on December 30, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Que was an active member of the LDS church and faithfully served in various church callings. He loved singing in the ward choir. For the past seven years he attended church with Elma at the nursing home branch. Upon completion of active duty, Que and Elma made their home in Manti, Utah, where Que began his career with the State of Utah at the Department of Employment Security. Later he was transferred to Salt Lake City. After 40 years of loyal service, he retired as one of its directors. His children, unfamiliar with his job responsibilities, referred to him as the "President of the Unemployed." Que's greatest joy was his wife and family. He loved spending time with them; when the children and the grandchildren would visit, he always made sure that they had a bowl of ice cream before they went home. He supported his family by attending countless sporting events, school activities and recitals. For the past 10 years, Que had cared for his ailing wife. He visited her daily at the nursing home. His faithful service has exemplified unconditional love. Que and Elma enjoyed traveling together. They visited countries throughout the world. Que's hobbies included: gardening, golfing, bowling, and reading. Que had many friends. He would never miss his morning breakfast and golf with his retired buddies. He also enjoyed his association with friends from the "Ho Ho" group. He is survived by his wife, Elma; six children, Karen (Terry) Jensen, Connie (Grant) Palmer, Shirley (Fritjof) Langeland, Joyce (Jim) Fenton, Que (Jan) Christensen, Patti (Vaughn) Walsh; sister Karma J. Coon, Julanne Julanne Coon 1924 - 2005 Julanne Susie Gillett Taylor Coon, our dear wife, mom, and grandma returned to her Heavenly Father on November 4, 2005 in Salt Lake City, UT. Julanne was born on January 5, 1924, in Magna, UT to James Mead and LaVona Jane Hansen Gillett. She was the eldest of six children and lived her life years in Lehi, American Fork, Garfield, Magna, Big River, CA and Salt Lake City. She graduated from Cyprus High in 1942. She married Clyde B Taylor in 1943, later divorced. Together they had seven children; Sandra, Denny, Jane, Jill, Jone, Susan, and Nancy. For the last 40 years she has been married to her sweetheart and eternal companion, Floyd Allen Coon. Mom loves the Lord and has a strong testimony of the Gospel. Prayers and Priesthood blessings were a comfort to her throughout her life. She loved to study the scriptures and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others, especially the missionaries. She loved teaching gospel doctrine classes and attending education week at BYU. Mom was active in community affairs and worked tirelessly along with Laura Jo McDermaid and Beth Archilbald to better the town of Magna and the residents there. She worked to establish the first Rape Crisis Center on the west side of the valley. She enjoyed being with grandkids, bearing her testimony, growing flowers in Big River, going to Club with her girlfriends from school, eating Mexican food, and saying "wonderful." She also had a knack for making grandchildren think they were her "favorite." Mom had a beautiful smile and loved to share it with everyone. Julanne leaves behind her dear husband Floyd, daughters: Sandra (Brent-deceased) Thomas, Jill Julanne Robertson, Jane (Bill) Nice, Jone Johnson, Susan (Carl) Duckworth. Preceded in death by her parents, siblings, daughter, Nancy, son, Denny and son in law, Brent Thomas. Coray, Deon Jenkins Deon Jenkins Coray 1917~2005 NEPHI- Deon Jenkins Coray, age 88, passed away November 6, 2005 at her home in Nephi, Utah. She was born October 4, 1917 in Charleston, Utah to Junius Paxman and Sylvia Murdock Jenkins. She married Gene A. Coray December 30, 1943. Marriage was later solemnized in Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died November 30, 1995. She grew up in Heber City and moved to Long Beach CA when she married Gene. They live there for 30 years. She worked for McDonald Douglas and the Bureau of Immigration. She served in the LDS church as Stake secretary, YW leader, Cub Den leader and Family History and Name Extraction. She moved to Nephi in 1992 and worked in Kimo's store. She was always a faithful and caring person. Survived by a son, Kimo and wife Marie of Mona; six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sister, Marva (Charles) Niederhauser; brothers, Joe (Belva) Jenkins; Lars (Zina) Jenkins; Terry (Irene) Jenkins. Interment, Payson Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Published in the Deseret News on 11/9/2005. Espinosa, Leo Leo Espinosa 1919 ~ 2005 Leo Espinosa passed away Nov. 7, 2005 following a prolonged lung illness. He was born on Nov. 3, 1917. He was the son of Leo Sr. and Rosa Leos Espinosa. Leo married Vera Monsen in June 1941 and their marriage was later solemnized on Dec. 6, 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple. He attended school in Carbon County, Utah where he was later employed in the area coal mines for 25 years. He and his family moved to Salt Lake City where he retired after 22 years of employment with Kennecott Copper Co. Leo was well known to family and friends as a hard working man. He loved fishing and hunting in the Utah mountains and streams. Leo's family is very proud of the fact that he spent three and 1/2 years over seas in the 9th Air Force European Theater during World War II having landed on Omaha beach and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Leo and Vera Are the parents of five children two of whom preceded him in death: Robert Dean and Randall Kirk and the remaining children are: Leo Kenneth (Becky), Delana (Fred Al Cleveland) and Scott. He had 12 brothers and sisters, five of whom are still living: Isabell, Rosalie, Louie, Manual and Mary. He also has 11 grandchildren, 37 great-grand-children and five great-great-grandchildren. Flint, Trina Tennille Trina Tennille Flint 1979 ~ 2005 Helen Keller once said "Life is either an Adventure or nothing". Trina Tennille Flint finished her adventure here with us and passed away in her Lehi home on Sunday, November 6, 2005, at the age of 26. Tennille was born April 26, 1979 in Rexburg, ID. As Tennille grew she accomplished great things and overcame many obstacles placed before her. Tennille graduated from Davis High School and Utah State University in Fisheries and Wildlife. She loved the great outdoors and the environment which she longed to protect. She worked for the Bureau of Reclamation and was currently an Environmental Scientist for Maxim Technologies. Tennille was gifted in many ways and loved music. She played violin, piano and became a hand bell ringer in the Davis High Bell Choir. She continued in several Bell choirs including Bountiful Bells, Logan Presbyterian and Utah Valley Hand Bell Choir performing solos in church and community programs. Tennille was recently set apart as a Music Missionary in the LDS church and became one of the first members of the Bells on Temple Square, bringing joy and happiness to her life. Her puppy Kayenta, cherished friend and constant companion will dearly miss her. "Nilles" your love and friendship will be cherished by those of us left behind. Govers, Dorothy Hogan Jarrard Dorothy Hogan Jarrard Govers 1913 ~ 2005 Dorothy Hogan Jarrard Govers, age 92, of Canyon Lake, Calif., entered into eternal rest on Nov. 4, 2005. She was born April 28, 1913, in Thatcher, Idaho, to George Alma Hogan and Phoebe Suzanna Spillman Hogan. Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband Francis Keith Jarrard (Dec.1, 1979), one of her sons, Joseph Keith Jarrard (June 22, 1999) and two of her brothers, Wawn and Dean Hogan. She graduated from the Salt Lake General Hospital School of Nursing on May 19, 1936, and received her license to practice nursing from the State of Utah on June 4, 1936. On Aug. 28, 1936, she married Francis Keith Jarrard in Thatcher, Idaho, and they were sealed as husband and wife in the Salt Lake Temple on Oct. 23, 1953. They were blessed with three children - Jerry, Joe, and Sue. In January, 1972, she retired from Hill Air Force Base Hospital in Ogden, Utah. She married Adolph Govers on Nov. 17, 1983, and relocated to California. Dorothy is survived by her husband Adolph Govers of Canyon Lake, CA; a son Jerry Hogan Jarrard (Norma) of Menifee, Calif.; a daughter Suzann Jarrard Wilson of Mooresville, N.C; and a brother Gary Hogan (Karla) of Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a loving wife, beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt who enjoyed being with the family more than anything else. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, including eight grandchildren, 19 great-grand-children, one great-great grandson, and many nieces and nephews. Jefferies, William Martin William Martin Jefferies 1914 ~ 2005 Martin Jefferies of Grantsville, Utah, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005. Funeral will be at the Grantsville 5th Ward, 115 E. Cherry St., at 11 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2005, preceded by a viewing from 9:45 to 10:45. Friends can visit the family also at the Tate Mortuary in Tooele from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, November 10. Martin was born December 7, 1914, in Grantsville, son of Frank and Mamie Jefferies. He graduated from Grantsville High School in 1933 where he excelled in drama, football, and basketball, and was senior class president. He married Lucile Crowton, December 27, 1937, in the Salt Lake Temple, and soon relocated to the Bay Area in northern California. He and Lucile raised six children there. Martin was a skilled carpenter and building contractor, and constructed many beautiful homes in the Bay Area. In 1958 Martin joined the California State Division of Architecture, serving the next 20 years as a building inspector and then the Construction Supervisor of the Direct Construction and Restoration Office, responsible for all statewide direct construction projects. Upon his retirement in 1978 he and Lucile returned to Sandy, Utah. Lucile passed away December 30, 1985. He enjoyed gardening. After retirement he had almost a quarter acre vegetable garden. Martin also enjoyed woodworking, traveling and visiting with his family. In 1988 he met Myrle, and they married on September 16, 1989. They traveled from coast to coast visiting family. He was a lifetime active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in a variety of responsible callings. Martin is survived by his wife, Myrle Eva Jefferies; children: Chris (Betty), Duncan, OK; Bruce (Jane), Draper, UT; Julena Shupe, West Valley, UT; Maren (Charles) Lancaster, West Jordan, UT; Denise McNicol (Mitch Hokanson), Mendocino, CA; Joy Lee Rickman, Sheridan, CA; 28 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Jerry was born May 21, 1955 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Moyle and DeOn Jensen. After graduating from Hillcrest High School, he served an LDS mission to Independence Missouri from 1974 to 1976. He attended Snow College where he served as student body president. On May 16, 1980 he was sealed to Janet Embley in the Oakland LDS Temple. Jerry graduated from the University of Utah in 1985. He worked for many years in the produce business. He most recently worked for Eagle Eye Distributors as a produce dealer. Jerry enjoyed the outdoors, especially being in the mountains with his family. He had a special love for music and enjoyed sharing his musical talents with others. Next to his love for his wife and family, his most rewarding opportunities came from serving the Lord. His greatest love was serving among the youth of the Church. He served as President of the Jordan Oaks Stake in West Jordan, Utah. At the time of his death, he was serving as the President of the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania LDS Mission. In the short time he was allowed to serve, he developed a deep love for each missionary. Jerry is survived by his wife; children, Alexis (David) Geist, Andrew (Adrienne), Morgan (serving in the Lisbon, Portugal Mission), Nathan (17), Austin (15), Daniel and Caleb (9), Michael (5); grandchildren, Marcus and Gabriel; his father; sisters Janette Keysaw and Connie Brown; and brothers Kelly and Carl. Johnson, Edna Edna Johnson "Nanny" Our beloved mother, grandmother, and nanny, Edna Elizabeth Wallis Johnson, returned to the arms of her loving Heavenly Father on November 6, 2005. Edna was born on August 29, 1914, daughter of Tom and Florence White Wallis. She married George Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple in June of 1935. Edna worked for Mountain Fuel for 18 years. She enjoyed her work and made many lasting friendships with her co-workers. She enjoyed her retirement years traveling, painting beautiful pictures of roses, and entertaining family and friends while spending time at her cabin in Brighton. She spent hours creating many beautiful scrapbooks of her travels and family to share with others. Her grandchildren and great-grand-children filled her life with a spirit that kept her young at heart. She found pleasure in the laughter and smiles of her great-grandchildren. We will miss you, but your caring spirit will live in our hearts forever. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and canning. She loved her garden and took great joy in the beauty of her roses and flowers, which she planted and tended each year. Littlefield, Lily Whitaker Lily Whitaker Littlefield 1911 ~ 2005 WEST VALLEY CITY - Lily Francis Warren Whitaker Littlefield, 93, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2005 in Bluffdale, Utah. She was born December 27, 1911, in Lovell, Wyoming, a daughter of William Zenos and Sarah Ann Ames Warren. She attended schools in Lovell, Wyoming; Idaho Falls, Idaho; and in Montana. As a young girl, she worked at Barren Woolen Mills in Brigham City. Lily married John Edward Whitaker on April 27, 1931. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 14, 1972. They had three sons, Warren Edward, 'V' Robert, and Merrill Warren. John preceded her in death on August 4, 1982. In 1988, she married Franklin Littlefield. He passed away in 1995. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in different callings throughout the years. At the age of 68, she and her husband served a full time mission to the Texas Dallas Mission. Lily worked full time at the Naval Supply Depot and Hill Air Force Base, retiring in 1964. She enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing, hunting, and horseback riding around the mountains by their cabin. She also loved to square dance, bowl and travel around in her trailer. She loved to crochet and made many beautiful afghans. She also loved crafts of any kind and always completed beautiful projects. Surviving are three sons, Warren Edward (Eleanor) Whitaker, Sunset; 'V' Robert (Jo Ann) Whitaker, West Valley City; Merrill Warren (Judy) Whitaker, Shingletown, CA; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grand-children and five great-great-grand-children. Also surviving are her sister and brother, Sylvia Goddard, Layton; and William (Trudy) Warren, Ogden. She was preceded in death by her husbands and one sister, Ila Burt. He married Mary Lambert on December 5th 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. Mary and Edis raised their family on a dairy farm in Lewiston. He enjoyed developing one of the finest registered Holstein herds in the area and was well known in the dairy industry. He was a leader in many professional and civic organizations. Edis was a lifelong devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many callings and was always faithful in his service. He was well known as an individual of total honesty and integrity who was always positive with others. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, his brothers Walter and Paul, sisters Maleese Taggart, Ruey Hyde, Janett Hodges, and Verla Olsen, son James, and grandchildren Scott Taggart and Cody Pugmire. She was born on May 29, 1910 in Salt Lake City to Oscar and Laura Anderson Rhodes. Evette worked as a bookkeeper for many companies in the downtown area. As a member of a railroad retirement organization (BARE) she loved going to their parties. She loved playing pinochle and belonged to several clubs. Evette also enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends at the Manor and she was an active member of the LDS church. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Evette married George Hicks and together they had two children, Connie and Clea, then later divorced. In June of 1947 she married Lloyd Walters in which they had one child Mickey. Lloyd also had three children of his own, Lloyd, Bill and Ginny. Evette is survived by her daughters, Clea (Mike) Polychronis, Mickey Smith, Virginia Dean, sister Mildred Barnes, daughter-in-law Cherie Walters and many grandchildren and great-grand-children. Avid hunter from the time he could carry a gun, Eagle Scout, academically gifted, fraternity brother. Earned his Master Degree, in Industrial Psychology at the University of Utah. Married the love of his life, Carol Lee Peterson, on April 5, 1957 sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
