Klein 8/1/21 ~ 11/17/05 It saddens us to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, good neighbor, and friend to all, Mel Klein, who made his transition at his home Nov. 17, 2005. Although he struggled with many afflictions, he did so with great courage and dignity, a gentleman always. A great light has truly gone out. Mel was born in Salt Lake City Aug 1, 1921 to Albert and Verna Brown Klein, held the office of high priest in the LDS church, and married Vilate Nelson September 20, 1957 in SLC. He served his country with honor in World War II in the Pacific Theatre in both the U.S. Navy and Merchant Ma-rines, after which he attended the U of U. Mel was a pilot, master marksman, raiser and trainer of quarter horses, connoisseur and collector of antique cars, clocks, watches, Will James books and as all who knew him will attest, guns. He had a lifelong love affair with antique firearms, traversing the country for many years on a quest for the rare find, that when discovered, would delight him so. A special thanks to Ed (Smitty) Smith, who often traveled with Mel on this quest. In the later years, Smitty, this would not have been possible without you. We are so grateful. Mel had a varied and interesting career owning several businesses including co-owner and operator of a flight service in West Yellowstone, used car business in Salt Lake City, and ski lodge in Ketchum, ID. The latter part of his career was devoted to sales management and public relations. Mel was extremely well thought of in the business community. His success in this field was due not only to his skill but also the high regard in which he was held. Preceded in death by parents; and brother, Albert.
