"Lynn" was born on January 16, 1950 in Magna, Utah to Alfred and Laverla Anderson. He spent most of his life doing what he loved most, playing music, enjoying his family and being in the outdoors. He was a joy to be with and touched all who knew him. He leaves behind his loving companion of six years, Marriett Speth; three children, Celeste, Tawny and Tom; his step children, Debbie, Julie, Heather and Jason; seven grandchildren, Eric, Alex, Jordan, Kami, Kameron, Brandon and Mykaella; and his step grandchildren, Hollie, Ashley, Whitney, Chase, Dalton and Shyla. Survived by seven siblings and many other friends and family who love him and will miss him dearly. "Grandpa's an angel now." Graveside services will be held 12 noon, Monday, October 17, 2005 at the Pleasant Green Cemetery, 9200 West 3500 South. Beckstead, Larry Lynn Larry Lynn Beckstead 1944 ~ 2005 Our beloved son, brother and uncle, Larry Lynn Beckstead, passed away October 12, 2005 of cancer at his mother's home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 16, 1944 in Salt Lake City. He was the eldest son of Warren H. and Pauline Pack Beckstead. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-day Saints. After 25 years of service at Hill Air Force Base, he retired at the age of 50. His retirement enabled him to do what he loved most, playing pool and traveling. He played in many state and national pool tournaments. His love for traveling took him many places, but the place dearest to him was San Diego, CA where he loved the ocean and the snorkeling. He was married to Marty King, later divorced; then married Rena Williamson, later divorced. He is survived by brothers: Randy (Cindy), Greg (Cynthia), sisters: Sandy and Colleen ; nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his father, grandparents and his beloved brother, Harold. We will all miss his wonderful smile, his great sense of humor, and his genuine compassion to others. Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2005 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive, at 12 noon. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary. Bonan, Elie "Ed" Elie "Ed" Bonan "Together Again" Elie ("Ed") Bonan passed away on October 10, 2005. Born Nov. 1, 1924 in Cairo, Egypt, the second son of four children born to a French Tunisian father and French Lebanese mother. Ed enjoyed telling his children in later years of his adventures as a young man riding camels and climbing date trees. He joined the British Forces in Egypt during World War II. When the war was over, he immigrated to England, a country he fell in love with. Shortly after he moved there, he met his true love while spending an afternoon strolling in Hyde Park with his friend, Guy; Ulla-Britt Kristina ("Chris") Adolfson, a beautiful, young Swedish woman, marrying on his birthday 1949. They resided in London and had their first child, a daughter, Mich le, in 1950. The family moved to Gothenburg, Sweden a year later, and welcomed the birth of their son, Henri, in 1954. Crossing the ocean on the Queen Mary settling in Montr al. In 1961, lured by the tale of orange groves and roses growing in December, Ed and his family and close friends, car-caravaned to northern California. In 1991, moved to Pleasant Grove, UT to be close to their lovely granddaughters until Chris passed away in April 1998. Several years later, Ed was diagnosed with Alzheimers. He resided in South Towne Ranch, Alta Ridge Alzheimer's, before Crosslands Rehabilitation. He leaves many friends at all three residences, and is survived by his sister, Celine Sankary, CA; brother, Edgar, NY; daughter Michele, son Henri and daughter-in-law SuZan, grandchildren, many grandnephews and nieces, and a great-grandson. He was laid to rest next to his lifelong sweetheart on Tuesday Oct 11, where a graveside service was held. He will be missed by many. Published in the Deseret News on 10/14/2005. Booth, Wayne Wayne Booth 1921 ~ 2005 Wayne Clayson Booth, 84, died on Monday, October 10, 2005 at home, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Born to parents Wayne Chipman Booth and Lillian Clayson Booth on February 22, 1921, in American Fork, Utah, he married Phyllis Barnes in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 19, 1946. He graduated from American Fork High School and went on to receive a BA from Brigham Young University, and an MA and PhD from the University of Chicago in English Literature, the latter in 1950. He made his career as a Professor of English Literature and wrote 16 books, including the ground-breaking "The Rhetoric of Fiction". He was highly regarded internationally in the field of literary criticism and admired for his generous, open and inquiring approach to life. He is preceded in death by his sister, Lucille Booth Bushnell and his son, John Richard. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, daughters, Alison Booth and Katherine Booth Stevens and three grandchildren, Emily and Aaron Izakowitz and Robin Stevens. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, October 18. at the Alpine 1st Ward Chapel, 676 North Eagle View Dr. directed by Anderson & Sons Mortuary. Published in the Deseret News on 10/14/2005. Burkinshaw, Bernice Bernice Burkinshaw 1909 ~ 2005 Bernice Bateman Burkinshaw, 95, died Sunday, October 9, 2005 of natural causes. She was born in West Jordan, Utah on December 17, 1909 to Ezra Morgan Bateman and RoseEllen Winterrose Bateman. Bernice attended Jordan High School where she met and later married Lamar Burkinshaw in the Salt Lake LDS Temple July 3rd 1931. She spent several years participating with the PTA organization on all levels. This included the Local District, State Board and the National Organization. Her time was also spent as a participating member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Bernice was an example of integrity, humor and hard work. A woman of many talents, a pianist, a singer and a participant in many dramas. An accomplished seamstress (several years spent teaching in the 4H Club), as well as a quilter. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bernice maintained a deep love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, and His Gospel. She held many church callings. She was preceded in death by her husband Lamar and brother Horald (Afton) Bateman. Her surviving family includes brother Keith (Lee) Bateman and sons Larry (Joyce), Nephi; Gail (Lenna), Arizona; daughters Karen (Ludell) Pierson, Murray; Carma (Brent) Colton, West Jordan; 15 grandchildren (one deceased); many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Carey, Cynthia Sue Cynthia Sue Carey "Cindy" FARMINGTON - Beloved mother, daughter, sister and friend graduated from her earthly existence October 11, 2005. She was born November 1, 1971 to Michael Lloyd Carey and Judy Crossman Carey in Salt Lake City, Utah. She spent her life surrounded by her loving family and pets. Cindy was raised in Bountiful, Utah, graduating from Woods Cross High in 1990. Married Chad Checketts on November 2, 1995, later divorced. Cindy resided in Farmington for the last ten years and was a member of the LDS Church. She was a full time student at Weber State University perusing her goal of a career in social work specializing in substance abuse counseling. Cindy will be greatly missed by many. She was truly a unique individual, very bubbly and full of sunshine. Her sense of humor was as unique and fun as she was. She loved music and the learning experience. Special appreciation must be given to Judge John Memmott for his time spent and devotion to the well being of Cindy as it completely turned her life away from the unpleasantness she had experienced. She was a hard worker and devoted mother, survived by her son, who was the light of her life, Michael Brent Checketts of Farmington; mother and step-father Judy and Marty Neilsen of Farmington; brother Richard Michael Carey of Salt lake City; step-brother and sisters, Ryan Neilsen, Nicky Robinson and Catrice Neilsen, and beloved dogs "Frank" and "Bosco" and kitty cat "Lola". Christiansen, Terri Lynn Terri Lynn Christiansen 1953 ~ 2005 Our sweet mother and friend, Terri Lynn Christiansen, returned to her Heavenly Father on October 11, 2005 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mom was born November 18, 1953 in Cedar City, Utah to McKay and Norene Smith. She lived there until 1993 when she moved to Draper, Utah. Terri was an active member of the LDS church. Terri lived life to the fullest. She loved to be with her children. She has always been known for her beautiful garden and her talent to sew. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. She loved the kids at Sprucewood Elementary where she worked as a lunchroom aid. Terri is survived by her four children: Travis Christiansen (Nicole), Collette Whitley (Tim), Megan Christiansen, and Ashlee Christiansen. Also survived by mother Norene Smith, brother Dennis Smith and two sisters Marilyn Bauer and Cindy Rodet. We as a family want to thank Sandra Buys for being a wonderful doctor and friend to Terri. We love you mom and are so grateful that you fought cancer for nine years to be with us. You are greatly missed. Gahn, Joy Lorraine Booth Joy Gahn 1924 ~ 2005 NEPHI / Joy Lorraine Booth Gahn, age 80, passed away October 13, 2005 at the home of her daughter in Sandy, Utah. She was born November 7, 1924 in Nephi, Utah to Thomas Glen and Zora Brock Booth. She married Harold Gahn April 25, 1955 in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. He preceded her in death. She graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Medical Technology and specialized in Microbiology. She later received a Masters degree in public administration from the University of Utah. She loved learning and was a hard worker. Survived by her children, Rebecca L. (Michael) Pitts of Sandy UT; Glen B.(Stephanie) Gahn of Logan, UT; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. George, Mary Ann Butler Mary Ann Butler George 1931 ~ 2005 Mary Ann Butler George, 74, of Cedar Hills, Utah joined her loving husband, Elmer George Jr., on October 12, 2005. She was born March 12, 1931 in Augusta, Kansas to Earl and Alta Marie Powers Butler. She married Elmer on June 4, 1955 in the Logan Temple. Mary Ann grew up in Missouri and attended school there. She continued her education at Utah State University and received a degree in Elementary Education. She taught school for a brief time before becoming a full-time mother. Four sons were born to Mary Ann and Elmer in St. Paul, MN. The family later moved to Albany, NY where they resided for 31 years. They moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah after Elmer's retirement. Mary Ann loved cooking, entertaining, and music. She was involved in every facet of raising her four boys. Mary Ann was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings during her life. Her favorite calling was serving in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple with Elmer before his death. She is survived by her four sons: Steven, Alliance, OH; Paul (Leslie), Omaha, NE; David, Omaha, NE; and Mark (Kelli), Cedar Hills, UT; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandson; sister, Patti Stark, Neosho, MO. Healey, Virginia O'Very Virginia O'Very Healey 1922 ~ 2005 Virginia O'Very Healey, 83, a long time resident of Beaverton, Oregon, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2005. She was born November 11, 1922 in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to Clarence O'Very and Elizabeth Abraham. She married Boyd Nash Healey, April 11, 1950. Virginia grew up in Rock Springs, Wyoming, where she attended school prior to continuing her education in Los Angleles, California. Virginia and Nash made their first home in Boise, Idaho, later moved to California, then Salt Lake City, Utah, where they raised their two children. They later moved to Beaverton, Oregon, where they have resided for the past 35 years. Virginia enjoyed serving others and spent many years serving at Loaves and Fishes, as a temple worker in the Portland Oregon Temple and countless hours searching family history. She ended her life with many close friends who loved and admired her greatly. She was an inspiration and strength to many who were weak in faith and hope. She is survived by her two children, Scott M. Healey (Tamralyn) of Lindon, Utah; and Jill Woodward (Scott) of Ramsey, Minnesota; her sister, Melva White (Darcie) of Salt Lake City and eight grandchildren. Olivia was born November 24, 1914 in Santaquin, Utah to Lyman Carter Houghton and Mary Ellen Lofgren. She married Reed Huff on September 11, 1942 in Ogden, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. She loved to travel with her husband and family. Olivia was a wonderful mother and wife. She loved being in the company of her grandchildren and enjoyed participating in their lives. She especially enjoyed the time spent this past year with her great grandchildren. Olivia is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Scott) Broschinsky and Debra Allen; sister-in-law, Reva Houghton; 6 grandchildren, Andrew (Carolyn) Broschinsky, Brandon (Clairesse) Broschinsky, Lucianne Broschinsky, Lauralee Broschinsky, Kaitlyn Broschinsky and Avette Allen; three great grandchildren, Tessa McCullough, Reed Scott Broschinsky and Adelaide Mahalya Broschinsky. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Verona (Reed) Gates and Leona Marie; brothers, Elmer (Elma), Dell (Twila), Arvil (LaRue) and Max Houghton, and son-in-law, Bob Allen. McArthur passed away October 9, 2005 at the age of 91 at his home in St. George, Utah surrounded by his family. Andrew was born December 23, 1913 in St. George, Utah to James and Elizabeth Oxborrow McArthur. Andrew lived in St. George his entire life. He attended Dixie High School and Dixie College. He served an LDS mission in the North Western States. Upon completion of his mission, he returned home and went to work with his father at the family owned Quality Bakery. He became a master Baker, continuing the business after his Father's death until 1960. He married Merle Wallace on her birthday, September 29, 1938 in St. George LDS Temple. They enjoyed 66 years together. Andrew's sweetheart Merle preceded him in death on December 30, 2004. Andrew was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions including Bishop, Stake President, Counselor in the St. George Temple Presidency and Regional Representative for the Southern Utah Area. He was a charter member of the St. George Volunteer Fire Department and served for over 65 years. Andrew was a member of Rotary International. He served on the Board of Zions Bank and the St. George Savings and Loan. His life was marked by industry, thrift, hard work and self reliance. He is survived by his children: Marilyn Smith (Paul) Murray, Utah; James A. (Denise) St. George; Daniel C. (Julie) St. George. He has 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grand-children. He is also survived by his 93 year old sister Ina Mae Bracken of St. George. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Merle Sarah, his sisters and brothers; Clio Sullivan, Bessie (Wayne) Gardner, Mary McArthur, Joseph (Gertrude) McArthur, Lavera Pelt, and James (infant) McArthur. Andrew enjoyed life and lived each day to its fullest. He was a hard worker, dedicated to accomplishing the tasks before him. If you wanted it done you could count on Andy or "Bish" as he was known. He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, kissing his grandkids and being with his family. As a young man in school, he played tennis, softball and basketball (his favorite). Funeral services will be held October 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the St. George LDS 8th Ward Chapel, 166 South Main Street, St. George, Utah. Morzelewski, Charles Anton Charles Anton Morzelewski 1918 ~ 2005 Charles (Chic) Anton Morzelewski, 87 passed away October 11, 2005. He was born January 15, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Charles parents, John and Marie Minderlein Morzelewski, emigrated to the United States in the early 1900's from Poland and Germany. Charles graduated from West High School in 1936, and then attended a Community College where he studied drafting and trigonometry. He married Wanda Woodard, of Francis, Utah, on May 18, 1940. Charles worked at the Auerbach Department Store, in SLC, first as a carpenter's helper, carpenter and then foreman carpenter. After 46 years with that company he retired in 1982. He was a member of the Carpenters Local 184 for 56 years. He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy. Charles was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities including 20 years in the extraction program. He loved to do Home Teaching. They built their home in Sandy, Utah in 1969, where he loved planting and irrigating vegetables and flowers, and growing fruit in their lovely yard. Charles loved boating, fishing, and traveling. The family enjoyed vacations to many lakes throughout Utah. After his retirement, he and Wanda traveled throughout Mexico for about 25 winters. In December 2004, he and Wanda moved to the Legacy House Assisted Living Center. The couple celebrated their 65th anniversary this year. Charles beloved wife, Wanda, passed away on August 29, 2005. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at the Legacy House, and the nurses and staff at the Logan Nursing and Rehab Center. Services from Access Hospice the last week are also greatly appreciated. Charles will be greatly missed by his family, John (Nila) Morzelewski of Sandy; Julie (Greg) Robinson of Logan; Lonnie (Michael) Taylor of Boise, Idaho; 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a brother, Jack Morzelewski (Salt Lake City). As well as his wife, Wanda, a son, Tim W. Morzelewski, and grandson, Timothy Jed Robinson, preceded his passing. Funeral services are under the direction of the Larkin Mortuary, and will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, 12 noon, at the Pebble Hills Chapel, 8735 S. Harvard Park Drive (1076 East), Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday evening, 6:30 to 8:30, and also at 10:30 am prior to the services at the Pebble Hills Chapel. Interment in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Moss, Frances Louise Bodine Frances Louise Bodine Moss 8/14/15 ~ 10/13/05 Frances was born to George Hamilton Bodine and Irene Louise Tueller in Paris, Idaho. She lived there for two years while her father was working building houses. She was raised in Evantson, Wyoming, where she graduated from Evanston High School in 1933. She was very active in drama, French and especially in dancing. She won many dancing contests even before she met Elmer M. Moss at a dance. They experienced "love at first sight" and were married six months later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1934. They had four daughters: Elgie Louise Johnson of Centerville, Erin M. Conner (Bill Park Conner) of Moroni, Marian M. Frances of Bountiful, and Roma Marie Moss who died in 1947. In 1946, the family moved to South Bountiful, Utah. With Elmer as her partner, Frances danced in floor shows and taught many young people to dance on both ward and stake levels. Frances was always active in the LDS church continuing her work with drama, leadership and teaching positions in MIA, Relief Society, and Sunday School. She worked extensively on her genealogy and family histories and was still working for the church doing data entry on her computer at age 89. In addition to church work, Frances worked 21 years as secretary/receptionist at Bountiful State Bank and Zions First National Bank. After her husband died in 1977, she volunteered at the Golden Years Senior Center and directed the Golden Years Band for 10 years. She loved to quilt and she made quilts for many of us; she also knit hundreds of hats for the Humanitarian Relief Effort. In addition to her three daughters and her brother Col. Jack Tueller, she is survived by eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her sister and brothers Hazel Faddis, Harry L. Bodine and Robert Tueller preceded her in death. Mom was so very generous to all of us and shared whatever she had. We all had her support, her encouragement, her appreciation and her prayers. Her whole family celebrated her wonderful life on her 90th birthday. We will miss her sweet spirit very much but we know that she was anxious to see her loved ones on the other side. Perkins, Jacquelyn Wilcox Jacquelyn Wilcox Perkins "Jackie" 1945 ~ 2005 Jackie quietly passed from her earthly bonds on Oct. 11, 2005 while living at the home of her loving niece and her husband, Denise and Larry Argyle. The family will be forever grateful for the loving care she has received living with them. Jackie was born on January 26, 1945 to Orvel John and Jennie Josephine Perkins at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. She was the youngest of nine children and is survived by only two brothers, Doyle (Marlene) Perkins and Blaine (Jean) Perkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Josephine and Baby Perkins, and her four brothers, Orvel (Perk), DeWayne, Nolan, and Roy. Jackie was active in the LDS church all of her life and raised an entire generation of children working in Primary in several different positions at the Garden Park Ward. She also served a mission at Temple Square and at The Joseph Smith Building. In spite of her birth afflictions she was a capable artist and learned to play the piano through a dedicated teacher and friend, Lois Waltman. Our thanks go to many people who allowed Jackie to reach her full potential in life and gave her the confidence to move forward with her life. The people at the Work Activity Center worked with Jackie on many fronts, including Special Olympics participation. You are all aware of all the medals that she earned and she was rightfully proud of her accomplishments. Through her parents and her sister, Josephine, she became a world traveler and remembered most of the places with great pride and pleasure. She was "Aunt Jackie" to many loving nieces and nephews and spent many hours helping to tend them while they were at grandma's house. She will be missed by all who have known her and have been touched by her happiness and companionship. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Special Olympics or the Perpetual Missionary Fund. Porter, Gaylon Leon Gaylon Leon Porter 1936~2005 Gaylon Leon Porter, born June 26, l936 in Klamath Falls, OR. to Ray G. and Dolly A. Hardman Porter, passed away October 12, 2005 at the age of 69 in Salt Lake City. Survived by his wife and the "love of his life" of 48 years, Nancy; His three sons, Randy (Brenda) Porter, Robert (Robyn) Porter, Gary (Karyn) Porter and his daughter, Cindy (Christopher) Day, 12 grandchildren and sister, Karen Stout (Charlie). Gaylon was employed and worked for Utah Power and Light Company in the Transmission/Engineer design field for 31 years, after which he retired. He continued his career with Electrical Consultants Inc. (ECI) as an electrical consultant for 11 years. Gaylon enjoyed his work, his travels and the association he had with so many people. Whenever he had the chance, he would drive to Overton, Nevada with his family. He was always so happy to be with "the group" for some fun times boating and four wheeling. We all know he could climb the "highest mountain" because he proved it in so many ways. "We often forget that it is the hard times when we truly see what is best in love as well as in life." Reid, Marjorie Marjorie Reid 1918 ~ 2005 Marjorie Harmer Reid, born January 25, 1918, to Roy Howard Harmer and Winnie Edith Daw died on Wednesday, October 12, 2005. Marge is survived by her children: Joanne Jensen, Ray and Janice Reid, Kathie and David Kerr, Michael and Rene Reid and Bruce and Carie Reid. She is also survived by her sister Jerri (Don) Urry, 27 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Andrus, her brother Howard Harmer, her son-in-law Carl Jensen, her grandson Doug Jensen and her great-grandsons Jackson and Jonathan. Marge was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed playing and reading with her grandchildren, many of whom she taught to read. As a dedicated kindergarten teacher for over 30 years she was dearly beloved by her students. She won several awards for her teaching service and was instrumental in developing kindergarten reading programs in several schools throughout the Salt Lake valley. She was also a favorite cook and seamstress of her family who have treasured memories of her cooking, fun Halloween costumes and special dresses. Riska, Ella Irene Greenwood Ella Irene Greenwood Riska 1915 ~ 2005 Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Ella Irene Greenwood Riska p as sed away October 11, 2005 in Plano, Texas. Born December 8, 1915, Union, Utah to Charles A. and Irene Hilton Greenwood. Married William Drews Riska, in Salt Lake Temple on May 19, 1939. Ella was a graduate of Jordan High School and Brigham Young University. She enjoyed a long and illustrious career as a physical education teacher and later as an elementary school teacher. She received wide spread recognition for her innovative and highly successful teaching techniques dealing with so-called 'problem children. To her there was no such thing as a problem child. She was a talented painter; dancer and modern dance teacher and choreographer, and was a joy and inspiration to all who knew and loved her. EIla was a lifelong, faithful member of the LDS church. Survived by husband, William Drews Riska, sons Robert (Connie), Carrolton, Texas, Michael (Diane), Capitan, New Mexico, and Steven (Lisa), Sulphur Springs, TX, 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of Ephraim and Annie May Watford Drage. The love of her life was William M. (Bill) Taylor. They married Nov. 14, 1929, later sealed in the Logan Temple, July 29, 1953. They had two children. Her home was where she was happiest and she loved to cook and spend time outdoors. Her example of kindness and love will always be with us. She did not complain through her physical struggles. Our family has been honored to have such a great lady as our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her sister, Norma Dansforth (Eldon), her son Gary (Kit); 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grand children and one great-great grandchild.
