Sorensen, Margaret Nelson Margaret Nelson Sorensen 1919 ~ 2005 "Mickey", passed away October 6, 2005 while convalescing from recent back surgery. Beloved mother and grandmother, expert bridge player-especially skilled at duplicate bridge-talented flower-arranger, avid reader and dog lover, Mickey was an attractive, cheerful, gracious and compassionate person who found something to like in everyone she met, and whose passing will be mourned by all who knew her. Predeceased by husband Robert W. Sorensen in 1990, by parents James Everett Nelson and Myrtle Willey Nelson, and by sisters Kathleen Burnham, June Rushforth, and Elaine Burton, Mickey is survived by son Robert Jr., of Los Altos Hills, CA; son James Geoffrey of St George, UT; daughter Patricia Lynne Hutchinson of Las Vegas, NV; brother Byron Nelson of Bountiful, UT; sister Geraldine Tracy of Thornton, CO; granddaughter Cami Lynne Hutchinson of Oxnard, CA; and granddaughter Julia Hoover Sorensen of Los Altos Hills, CA. Mickey was born July 4, 1919 in Bountiful, Utah, graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, and attended the University of Utah for several years. After their marriage on August 17, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Mickey and Bob moved to Palo Alto where Bob completed his degree in Civil Engineering at Stanford University and whose profession led to work initially with the U.S. Government and Kennecott Copper, then to service in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War as a Naval Construction Battalion officer, and ultimately to a long career in the oil industry. The contingencies of her husband's career and military service presented to Mickey and her family the opportunity to enjoy residency and friendships in Utah, California, Virginia, Illinois, and the London of the early 1960s. Upon Bob's retirement in 1978, they settled in Ojai, California. Mickey moved to Ventura, California in 2002, and then, only months before her passing, to St George, Utah. Mickey's children were hoping that she could enjoy many more years in St George. While she did learn before her passing that granddaughter Cami is engaged to be married next year, it is sorrowful that "Grammy" will not be there for the wedding, just as it is sorrowful that "Grandma Mickey" is forever departed from granddaughter Julia, a junior at Stanford University, and-like her grandfather-a Civil Engineering major. Since Mickey recently moved away from friends in Ventura County and since her family is so dispersed, a memorial service was not arranged. But whenever those who loved Mickey see in others-or in themselves compassion and respect for all persons, the enjoyment of a game of bridge, the love of a beautiful garden, the love of a dog, or the love of a beautiful passage of music, they surely will often remember Mickey, and that in itself is a memorial to her. Wall, Allis Virginia Allis Virginia Wall 1925 ~ 2005 Our beautiful, beloved sister, aunt, great-aunt, great great-aunt, Allis Virginia Wall completed her life's work and suffering October 10, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah as a result of several strokes and a fall. She suffered much with patience, and always expressed her thanks and appreciation to her many caregivers. She was born July 3, 1925 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was the fourth child of Henry Otis Wall and Edna E. Niemoller Wall. Her mother was a relative of the late Rev. Martin Niemoller who was imprisoned by the Nazi's during World War II. Her father was a descendant of Presbyterian missionaries to the Pawnees, Rev. Samuel Allis and Emiline Palmer Allis. Their children are documented by the state of NE as being the first white children born there. Her paternal grandfather, Dr. Wm. R. Wall was a skin cancer doctor as well as a family doctor in Council Bluffs, Iowa after his release as a major in the Indiana Cavalry in the Civil War. Allis graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs. She was active in the Girl Scouts of America. She served in the Women Marines for three and one-half years as a teacher and a recruiter. She was very proud to serve her country and felt it to be a tribute to so many of her ancestors who gave their time and their lives to maintain our freedoms. She was faithful in displaying our country's flag on every occasion. Allis attended modeling school and completed many evening college courses to further her education. She retired from the Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Anaheim. She received many accolades for her meticulous records as a supervisor. We are eternally indebted for her loving care of our mother in her last years. If there was a homeless cat that she heard about in her neighborhood, Allis either adopted it or found it a home. Allis and her family weathered the depression of the 30's in the beautiful Ozarks near the college of the Ozarks (near Branson) and she loved to recall the many explorations we made into those wild and unexplored forests where Indian mounds and early pioneer wagon tracks were the only indications of man. Allis was a resident of Utah for the past two years. Allis was a sincere and honest lady and enjoyed her Bible studies. She is survived by one sister, Lorraine (Lenn, deceased) Whitesides; niece, Patricia (Lynn) Nelson; nephew, Lenn E. Whitesides; a grandnephew, Sean (Tiffany) Nelson; a great-grandniece, Allexis Allis Nelson; and many cousins in the Midwest. Simper Fi! Allis, we will miss you always and we are appreciative of your kindness to us all. Internment was October 15, 2005 at Kaysville City Cemetery, with the Marines officiating at graveside services. Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary in Murray assisted with all arrangements and the family wishes to express our sincere thanks to them for their expert and courteous services. GEORGE, UT - Udella Spendlove Webb, 89, was reunited with her husband, parents, brothers and sisters Saturday, October 15, 2005. She was born April 19, 1916 in Virgin, Utah to Henry Franklin Spendlove and Maria Alice Stratton. Her husband, Warren Waldo Webb, worked for her father as a teenager and must have fallen in love with her then, but went in and out of her younger life for many years. While she was in Nurses Training at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, she developed a ruptured appendix in October of 1935, and it was Warren's love and devotion to her over the following six months that brought her back from death's door. After her full recovery, they were married June 17, 1936 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. From her humble beginnings in Virgin, Utah she learned the values from her parents that would direct her life. Her insatiable thirst for knowledge and education and her desire to help others guided her life. She graduated from Hurricane High School at the age of 16 and Dixie College at 19. Taking a break for the adoption of her two sons and a near death duel with cancer, she graduated from the University of Utah in 1960 with a membership in Phi Kappa Phi, and eventually earned a Masters Degree in Special Education and Speech Pathology in 1969. She spent 21 years as a teacher in the Salt Lake School District, teaching, serving, and helping children. Udella was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many callings throughout the years. She was also an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She loved the cultural arts and learned to play both the piano and organ, and mastered both to very advanced levels. Taking her children and grandchildren to the Utah Symphony, Ballet West, numerous plays, art exhibits, and cultural events throughout her life, still influences their lives today. Her travels circled the world to quench her desire to experience cultures in different lands, including China, Russia, Scandinavia, Europe, South America, the Middle East, and the Pacific Islands. Udella had a passion for bowling that produced numerous awards and culminated with her winning of the Silver Medal in the Senior Games at 86 years of age. She will always be remembered by her family and friends as a very kind, loving, giving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who loved to help you learn and grow to achieve your brightest dreams. She is survived by her sons, Douglas Lane (Connie) Webb, of Sandy, UT, and Dean Stratton (Mandi) Webb, of Anchorage, Alaska; sister-in-law, Kitty B. Webb; granddaughters, Julie (Michael) Lee, Lori (Joseph) Kotter, Ca-mille (Joshua) Foulger, Emily Webb, Rebecca (Erik) Pedersen, Lisa Webb, and Ashley (Matthew) Springer; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers-in-law; brothers, Henry, Orrin, Karl, Arnold, William, Marvin; and sisters, Melba and Emily. The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and staff of IHC Hospice and Kolob Care Center for their compassionate care. Willis, Gayle Jensen (Bailey) Gayle Jensen (Bailey) Willis 1909 ~ 2005 On Thursday, October 13, Gayle (Bailey) Willis passed away quietly at the home of her youngest daughter, Linda, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. "You are the wind beneath my wings," one of her favorite songs, personified Gayle, and who she truly was. Supportive and loving, she was always "there" for anyone who knew her and needed her help. Gayle was born June 1, 1909 in Lewiston, Utah. While growing up in Cache and Weber counties, under the loving care of her parents, Cyrus Jensen and Orella Merrill Jensen, she graduated from West High School with high honors, in 1926. She was the Valedictorian of her graduating class. She met, fell in love with, and married the man of her dreams, William Lee Bailey from Nephi, Utah in 1928. Lee was an honest, ambitious, and hard working man devoted to her in every way. Gayle experienced many difficult times but had the wonderful gift of reflecting more on the positive, and recalls the beautiful memories and blessings, she and her husband shared. Those blessings include her five beautiful children, Berta, Jean, Bill, Gayle Ann, Merrill and Linda. Because of her devotion and love for Lee she accepted and supported the many times required by his employment to relocate. Because of her husband's illness, she moved to her beloved Mesa, Arizona, a place where she and her husband and two youngest children found peace and happiness. Lee passed away in 1965 after suffering a long term illness. She felt blessed with a job that brought fulfillment and joy, for the City of Mesa, as a secretary, in the Parks and Recreation Department, just a block north of the beautiful Arizona Temple. She met and married Fred Willis in 1970 and experienced happiness and contentment for 14 years. He passed away in 1984, after suffering from Parkinson's disease. Mother is remembered for having lovingly cared for her parents while in her home and loved the blessing of being able to, again, give unselfishly. Gayle suffered many losses, first her sister, Berta, of 3 years old; brother Merrill of 11; and her loving son, Bill; but one of her greatest losses was the loss of her eyesight. Mother enjoyed reading, crocheting, quilting, sewing for her grandchildren, all of which she had to give up. This broke her heart, but she never complained, in fact she always looked on the bright side and counted her many blessings. Gayle is survived by a son, Merrill (Shari) Bailey of Syracuse; and three daughters, Berta Jean James, of Holladay, Gayle Ann (Carl) Rasmussen of Bountiful, and Linda (Larry) Elkins of Farmington. She has 24 grandchildren, and 53 great-grandchildren. Gayle was 96 years young when passing. We all loved and will continue to love her very much. We will miss her, as will the many friends she always spoke of and enjoyed. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street, Farmington, Utah. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2005 with a viewing prior to services at 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Old Rock Church, (First Primary Chapel), 272 North Main Street, Farmington, Utah.
