He was born July 2, 1951 to Calvin Charles Amott and Laura Beth Orme in Provo, Utah. He attended school in Provo, graduating from Provo High School and BYU. He also graduated from the BYU Law school and was a practicing Attorney in Utah County for nearly 30 years. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow in scouting. He served a mission in Los Angeles. He was married on May 11, 1979 to MaryLynne Wheeler and they had five children. They were later divorced. He served in several positions in the church including: Gospel Doctrine Teacher, High Priests Group Leader and served in two Bishoprics. He also loved to attend the temple. His interests included: playing the guitar, piano, and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. He also loved seeing his children develop their musical and athletic talents. He loved sports, especially baseball. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and by his brother Mark Orme Amott. Survivors include his children Katie Sheldon (Ben), Scott, James, Ryan and Kellie, his siblings, Keith Archibald (Judy), Donn Amott (Lurinda), Kathy Anderson (Curtis), and Nancy Skidmore (Mark). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2005, at the Bonneville Stake Center, 85 South 900 East, Provo, Utah at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center St. and also at the Stake Center Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Provo, City Cemetery. Aus, Esther Westby Esther Westby Aus 1912 ~ 2005 Our dear, kind mother passed away on October 16, 2005, at the age of 93. She was happy, intelligent, gentle, creative, inspired, sensitive to the needs of others, and very loving. Always a lady, she was very artistic, loved oil painting, dancing, and landscaping. We are honored that she was an important part of our lives, and we will miss her dearly. Esther was born on April 8th, 1912, to Torvald T. and Hilda Marie HaIsten Westby, the third of five children, in the home her father built in Tacoma, Washington. She graduated from Pacific Lutheran College (now University) in Tacoma, Washington in 1932, later receiving an honorary Doctorate from the same university. There she served on the Board of Regents, was a founding member of the Q Club, member of the Choir of the West and at one time sang with St. Olaf's Choir, and loved to attend and listen to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She also served on the board of Better Homes and Gardens, the Portland, Oregon PTA and was a delegate for the Republican Party in Santa Barbara, California. She was president of Soroptimist Club of Portland, Oregon and member of Eastern Star. She taught school until her marriage to Alfred Aus in June of 1934. They were married for 68 wonderful years. Together they owned and operated five corporations including: Oregon Typewriter and Recorder Company, with stores in Portland, Seattle and Eugene; Oregon Audio-Video; the Aus Building, (an office building in downtown Portland); a 100-acre ranch southeast of Portland; a shopping mall in Salem, Oregon; two acres on a Santa Barbara, California, hillside overlooking the ocean, where they were active in the Montecito Country Club and have many dear friends; and various other properties. Alfred and Esther loved traveling around the world from the Great Wall of China, to Italian villas, Africa, Australia, and the fjords of Norway. Her parents, siblings, a great- granddaughter, son-in-law Alma Johnstun, and her spouse of 68 years, Alfred, preceded her in death. She is survived by a son Alfred Burton Aus (Judi) of Portland, Oregon, and daughters Jan Johnstun (widowed) of Salt Lake City, and Judi Allen (Mike) of Oklahoma City, 13 grandchildren, 37 living great-grandchildren, and many other dearly loved friends and relatives. Bodily 1913 ~ 2005 LEWISTON - Laree Alder Bodily, 92, was surrounded by family members when she died on Sunday, October 16, 2005, at her home in Lewiston, Utah. She was born in Preston, Idaho, on February 22, 1913, the oldest of five children to Edgar Johnson Alder and Myrtha Azuba Griffeth Alder. She married Mervin J. Bodily in the Logan LDS Temple on September 29, 1937. Burgess, Thomas A. Thomas A. Burgess 1919 ~ 2005 MIDVALE/TOOELE - Thomas Arlo Burgess passed away peacefully in the quiet of the morning at his home October 18, 2005. Tom was born in the home of his parents John Samuel and May Catherine Hatch Burgess, April 24, 1919 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. It is only fitting that Tom was born and died at home for home truly is where his heart was. Family was Tom's inspiration and purpose throughout his life. Tom and his Malad, ID sweetheart, Renee Thomas, were married August 10, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. He will long be admired as a loving husband, father of six, grandfather of 18, great-grandfather of eight, and friend of many. Tom enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy serving during World War II in the Pacific and Atlantic theaters as a Petty Officer from October, 1942 to the war's end. After his Naval service he attended the University of British Columbia at Vancouver, B.C. Tom and Renee migrated to Tooele, Utah in 1949 where they raised their family. Tom created a career in Tooele as a well known and respected car salesman for Barrus Motors and Mantes Chevrolet. He served in bishoprics, a stake presidency, and numerous other positions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1989 Tom and Renee fulfilled their dream by accepting a call to the Uruguay Montevideo Mission. Church service has been a large part of their lives having served three LDS missions together. They moved to Midvale, UT in 1991. Tom was a sports fan, loving both BYU and the Utah Jazz. In his youth he enjoyed competing in track and baseball. Tom survived his parents; and brothers, Lynn, Nowell, Ralph LeRoy, Lyle; sisters, Viola and Faye; and grandson, Bradley Burgess. He is survived by his loving wife, Renee; and children, Lorita Beers, Draper, Marcia (Bruce) Bracken, Draper, Bruce (Lisa) Jacksonville, FL, Lisa (Brent) Black, Tooele, Arlene (J.D.) Charlesworth, Edna Elsie Edna Elsie Charlesworth 1916 ~ 2005 Edna Elsie McDonald Charlesworth, beloved mother and grandmother, returned to her Heavenly Father, October 16th, at the age of 88. She was born November 16th, 1916 in Clear Creek, the daughter of Frank and Idona West McDonald. She married Lewis Charlesworth on December 24th, 1934 in Price, and later solemnized June 8th, 1976 in the Salt Lake City, LDS Temple. Edna spent her life in the service of her family and friends and was never happier than when she was serving the Lord. She served in stake leadership positions in both the primary and Relief Society, including a guide patrol leader in the primary. Over the years many men have approached her and thanked her for the loving influence she had on their lives. Edna is survived by two sons and two daughters, Robert L. Charlesworth of Saratoga Springs, Dennis F. Charlesworth of Heber City, Myrna L. Richards of Las Vegas, and Mrs. William (Carol Lynn) Attridge of Riverton; 19 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters, Jacque Dennis of Eureka, CA and Dona Lee Stewart of Roosevelt. Preceded in death by her husband, Lewis; brother, Carlyle McDonald; and two grandsons. Brandon was a 1991 East High School graduate. He graduated from Metro State University in Denver with a bachelors degree in Social Work and from the University of Wyoming, with a Juris Doctorate in May 2004. She was born June 1, 1931 in Lovell, Wyoming to Paul Silas and Eva Despain Emmett. She was married for 42 years to Arvin F Godfrey. They had three children. Nina was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a choice daughter of our Heavenly Father. She raised a family of caring children who loved her very much. Nina was adored and loved by many. She served a mission in New Zealand. Our mother truly enjoyed taking care of her flower garden. She derived much joy in caring for her grandson, Tyler. She is survived by her husband, two sons: Raymond and Dwayne, brothers: Elwood and Norald, sister, Leta Gifford and one grandchild. Hill, James Norman "Norm" James Norman "Norm" Hill 1920 ~ 2005 James Norman "Norm" Hill, age 85, of Sandy, UT, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, following a stroke. He was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Baker, Oregon, to Mariah and Guy Hill. Norm graduated from Baker High, received his BA from UCLA and his Masters in Adult Fitness from SDSU. After serving an LDS mission in the East Central States, he served in World War II in the Navy. He married Barbara May Howell of San Diego in the Salt Lake Temple. Published in the Deseret News on 10/20/2005. Hintze, Wanda Kimball Wanda Kimball Hintze 1920 ~ 2005 Wanda Kimball Hintze, age 85, died peacefully on October 17, 2005 at her home in Salt Lake City. She will eternally be a treasured wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Wanda was born in Crescent, Utah on June 6, 1920, daughter of Lester Earl and Emma Christensen Kimball. She was married to her loved and devoted spouse, Julian C. Hintze, on August 14, 1942 and their marriage was later sealed in the LDS Temple on January 16, 1946, following Julian's return from overseas military service. Wanda graduated from South High School in 1937. She served faithfully in countless church positions, beginning as a Sunday School Teacher at age 13. She served in both Primary and Mutual, including as a Counselor in the Primary Presidency in three different states, Utah, Idaho and California. Her experiences in these callings were among the most pleasurable times of her life. She was an exceptional homemaker and mother, returning to the workforce after her daughter was grown, and eventually retiring from her career as an Executive Secretary at Mountain America Credit Union in 1987. Wanda is survived by her husband and lifelong companion, Julian, along with her daughter, Leauna Erwin-McMurry, and son-in-law Jack McMurry, two grandchildren, Kimberly Erwin and Benjamin Erwin, and a great-grandson Brandon Malcolm, all of California. Additionally, Wanda is survived by a dearly beloved friend, Ellen Jones, who brought great joy to the entire family. She was preceded in death by parents, brother Lester C. Kimball, sister and brother-in-law Leila and Harold Carlisle. Hoar, Veneta Durrant Veneta Durrant Hoar 1915 ~ 2005 Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on Oct. 15, 2005 in Sandy, Utah. She was 89 years old. Veneta was born on Nov. 12, 1915 in Lyman, Wyoming to Joseph Edward and Henriette Rich Durrant. She was the seventh daughter. Veneta married Vern Robert Hoar on Sept. 2, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death. They had four children, J. Brent (Milly), Robert Carver (Linda), Christie (deceased), Penny (Dennis) Neumann; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many positions including Primary President, Relief Society President, and Young Women's President at the age of 18. Mom was also Quilt Chairman for many years having as many as 25 quilts at a time. Her mother taught her well. She was active in the community helping with the Cancer Drive, Heart Fund, and Primary Children's Hospital to name a few. Mom taught school in Lyman, Wyoming when she was young and worked in the first J.C. Penneys in Evanston, Wyoming, later transferring to the Sugarhouse store as a cashier and bookkeeper. This is where Mom met our Dad. The remainder of her life was devoted to her family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 South State Street. Holt, Susan Carrigan Susan Carrigan Holt 1949 ~ 2005 SANDY- Susan Carrigan Holt, 56, passed away Monday, October 17, 2005, at Promise Specialty Hospital after a very valiant and long battle with an incurable lung disease. She entered this world on August 11, 1949, Salt Lake City, Utah. Born to Leslie R. and Betty M. Carrigan, the fifth of their six daughters. She graduated from Hillcrest High where she was very active in the Pep club, Acappella, and named "Miss Cheer" due to her vivacious personality. While attending Utah State University she was a member of Angel Flight and became life long friends with those living in 321 Ella V. Reeder Hall. She received her degree in Elementary Education. Susan married Richard B. Holt on December 18, 1969, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in the Washington D.C. area while Rick was getting his medical degree. Together they raised three sons and three daughters. Susan had many talents and hobbies, she loved to hike, camp, sing, play the piano, doing counted cross stitch, making special personalized quilts, and scrapbooking. Because of her out-going personality she made people feel at ease which resulted in numerous lasting friendships. As a member of the LDS church she held many callings in the Relief Society and Primary Presidencies, chorister, Relief Society and Primary teachers. She was very influential to the youth in the neighborhood, her door was always open to them. Susan was a very loving mother who always made time for her family. She created a loving and inviting home through her creative use of music, cooking, aromas, flexibility, and humor. She had a good listening ear and offered sound advise. She incorporated the best attributes of a grandmother by playing with and reading to her grandchildren. Survived by devoted husband Rick, son Justin Holt (Julie), son Joshua Holt (Samantha), daughter Heather Palmer (Chad), son Nathan Holt (Dacia), daughter Leslie Holt, and daughter Beth Holt, 10 grandchildren, special friends Pat Borg and Denise Nydegger, sisters Pat Hancox, Joan Smith, Claudia Davis, Coleen Driskill, Leslie Kae Thomas. Kenison, Elburn Wardell Elburn Wardell Kenison 11/1/15 ~ 10/16/05 BOUNTIFUL - Elburn Wardell Kenison, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather left this world Sunday October 16, 2005 due to causes incident to age. Elburn was born Nov. 1, 1915 to William Kenison and Mattie Wardell Kenison in Cowley Wyoming. Elburn's young life was marked by the tragic deaths of his mother, sister, and brother. In spite of these and other challenges, he grew up to be a happy and optimistic man, always kind and patient with his family. He married Iris Tucker in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple June 15, 1943, and they became the parents of three children. Elburn pursued a career in accounting and retired from the Utah State Tax Commission in 1980. He was respected as a man of integrity and character by all who knew him. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served a mission to eastern Canada from 1937 to 1939. He was a member of the Bountiful 5th Ward. Elburn is survived by his wife, Iris; adopted sister, Louise Birch of Idaho Falls, daughter Norma Townsend of Price; sons Ivan (JoAnn) of West Jordan, and Clyde (Diane) of South Jordan; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Merriam, Sharon Heim Sharon Heim Merriam 1944 ~ 2005 Sharon Heim Merriam Passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 16, 2005, at Avalon Rehabilitation Center in South Salt Lake. She had fought a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. Born December 28, 1944, in Denver, Colorado to Edith Adamson Heim and William H. Heim. Moved to Salt Lake in 1950 and attended West High School. Married Kenneth L. Merriam, 1963, later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple; divorced in 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include sons Marty L. (Teresa) and grandson Jesse R. M. of West Valley City, UT; Michael T. (Camille), Jason E., and Justin D., all of Salt Lake City, UT and sister Suzanne H. He served as a transport driver for the German Army during World War II. He married Maria Krutner January 27, 1933 at Hamburg, Germany. They immigrated to the U.S. with their family in 1951. He is survived by his children, Henry (Judy) Niemann of West Jordan; Renate (Bart) Killian of Fillmore; and Niels (Shelley) Niemann of Rigby, ID; 12 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Dan loved to be around other people and was guaranteed to always have a smile to brighten the room. Peacock, Lynn Brigham Lynn Brigham Peacock 1934 ~ 2005 HOOPER- Lynn Brigham Peacock died Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at the University of Utah Hospital of complications from removal of a benign brain tumor. He was born November 11, 1934, in Brigham City, Utah, a son of Wilbur E. and Helen Larsen Peacock. On September 21, 1968, Lynn married Nan Kay Christensen. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from Civil Service at Hill Air Force Base in 1990. Lynn is survived by his wife, Nan; two sons, Lyle W. of Hooper; Alen (Wendy) and grandchildren, Audrey, Colin and Ainsleigh, all of Orem; two brothers, Don (Jean) Peacock and Kay (Wanda/Mimi) Peacock, all of Salt Lake City. Petersen, Keith Keith Petersen 1922 ~ 2005 Keith LaVar Petersen, age 83, of Draper, Utah, died Oct. 14, 2005, at the Draper Rehabilitation Center. Keith was born April 10, 1922, in Burley, Idaho, to James O. Petersen and C. Amelia Hansen Petersen. He was the 8th of 10 children. He was raised on his parents' farm in Burley, Idaho. They moved to Salt Lake City when Keith was 17. After graduating from West High School, Keith worked at the Hotel Utah during the day and took an aircraft engine mechanic class at the West High Vocational School at night. About this time the Japanese attacked the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor. He joined the Air Force as an aviation cadet. He eventually was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force and was assigned to pilot a B-24 bomber in the Pacific. He flew over 50 missions in World War II and was awarded the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Southwest Pacific Ribbon with 2 Battle Stars. He also served as a flight instructor after his tour of duty in the Pacific. He married Verda Baggett in Smyrna, Tennessee on October 27, 1944. They were later divorced. They had three children Julie Wilson (Ray), Richard Petersen (Anne), and Robert Jones (Colleen). Keith was employed as a machinist at Hill Air Force Base. He ended his career there on a medical retirement. After retirement he lived in a group home and eventually moved to the Draper Rehabilitation Center where has lived for the past 10 years until his death. In addition to his children he is survived by a brother Max (Lucy) Petersen, a sister, Mabel Smith, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Alexa McClure. He was an elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services for Keith will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main St., Bountiful, Utah on Saturday, October 22. He passed away on Monday, October 10, 2005. Dale was a graduate of Jordan High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He was an active member of the LDS church where he served in many callings. He loved sports and especially liked watching Monday night football. Dale suffered for many years with severe diabetes. He married Linda Hodges. They were later divorced. In 2003, he served as Deployment Officer in Operation Enduring Freedom and received numerous awards. He loved hunting, water skiing, and snowboarding with his family.
