Louise was born September 15, 1912 and was the only daughter of Louis William and Ada Vilate Larsen. She married Robert Francis Armstrong of Salt Lake City, Utah November 4, 1939. Louise was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she loved and served everyone she knew. A graduate of East High School, she studied vocal and piano at the McCune School of Music and was a graduate of the LDS Business College. She was an active lifetime member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Louise is survived by her son, T. Gregg Armstrong, and his wife, Priscilla K. Armstrong of Kaysville, and four grandchildren; Lisa, Robert and James Armstrong and Nicole (Justin) Wardell. Louise is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Abigayle and Nathan Wardell. She is preceded in death by her parents; oldest son, Robert Francis Armstrong, Jr.; and brothers, Richard H. Larsen of Salt Lake City, and Thomas W. Larsen, who gave his life for his country in World War II. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at the Canyonwoods Ward, 1085 North 50 East, in Kaysville. Arneson "Beloved Ouma & Friend" Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Margaret Arneson, passed away Oct. 22, 2005 at the U of U Medical Center. She was born and raised in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Julius and Ruby Selin Fransen. She married Joseph Arneson December 20, 1945. They were married for 50 years and had two children, Nancy Maxwell and David B. Arneson. She has four grandchildren, Travis (Jennifer), Jeremy, Scott Maxwell, and Angela (Eric) Arrington; five great-grandchildren, Torey, Jazlyn, Gavin, Gillian, Jacob and a sixth due in January. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her family was always first in her life. She was Ouma to them. Margaret was a life member of the DAVA (Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary). She has been a Department Commander, Chapter 6 Commander and served in various other capacities. She made many life long friends throughout her years of service with the DAVA. She worked as a personal assistant to Mrs. G.V. Thompson (of Cream of Wheat) in Minneapolis, MN. In Utah she worked at Sam's Club, the E Center, and the USANA Amphitheater. She was a proud volunteer during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. She is survived by her children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Dorothy) Fransen, sister-in-law, Betty Fransen, all of Willmar, MN and their families; Dan (Roslyn) Maxwell and their family. We wish to thank Dave Wayment for his love and devotion to Mom the last few years. He took her on many motorcycle rides with the CMA which gave her so much happiness. They also supported the Utah Grizzlies. He was there as a support throughout her illness. Christensen 1920 ~ 2005 MURRAY - Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Eliza Bernice Christensen, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 22, 2005. Eliza was born July 27, 1920 to Willis A. and Mary Mair Simmons in Park City (Deer Valley), Utah. She married Clifford Wayne Pedersen (deceased, 1948) and later married Neel Leslie Christensen June 18, 1949. Eliza volunteered for many years at Cottonwood Hospital. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and backyard barbecues with family and friends. During her golden years, she and husband, Neel, spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona. She was loved and adored by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Neel Christensen of Murray; children, Clifford Harold Pedersen (Jeneal), Bountiful, Tom Pedersen (Jorja), Herriman, Nancy Kluger (Kurt), Florida Keys; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; siblings, Elaine, Ralph, Dean, Pierce, and Shirley. Coon, Pamela Pamela Coon "Grandma Ham" Our beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, Pamela Coon passed away October 22, 2005. She was born November 1, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Kenneth and Wanda Rushton Coon. She married Kirk E. Ward; later divorced. Married Allen Sotherland; he died in 1990. Pamela was a member of the LDS church. She attended Cyprus High School and graduated in Salt Lake. She enjoyed arts and crafts, and always pulled for the underdog. She cherished her children and grandchildren dearly. Durfey, Shanna Christensen Shanna Christensen Durfey 1958 ~ 2005 Shanna Christensen Durfey passed away after a long extended illness on October 21, 2005. Born on September 20, 1958 to Antone N. and Tarra Lee Christensen in Salt Lake City Utah. She married Melvin Dean Durfey in the Salt Lake Temple January 19, 1990. Shanna was a multi talented woman. She used her talent to help others. Shanna was a great storyteller. She has left her family with so many wonderful memories. She will be greatly missed by everyone. Shanna served a mission for the LDS Church in Indiana and held many positions in the Church. Gustafson, Dean LaMar Dean LaMar Gustafson "He will be greatly missed" Our beloved husband, father, grandpa, and friend, passed away at age 69 Oct. 21, 2005 in Salt Lake City after a courageous battle with complications from acute pancreatitis. We're grateful for all those who provided care for Dean the past five months. Dean was born December 29, 1935 in SLC to George and Pearl Youngberg Gustafson. He graduated from Olympus High School in 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Mauss October 24, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served faithfully and diligently in the many church positions he held. Through his many talents, abilities, and hard work he taught us all the importance of serving the Lord by serving others. His greatest love was being with his family! He also enjoyed being outdoors, working on his tractor, working with his hands building wood projects for those he loved, and especially playing golf. Survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Jody (Brenda), Charilyn Bair, Scott (Susan), Natalie (Mike) Argyle, and 15 grandchildren, who will miss him greatly. Hansen, J. Weston J. Weston Hansen "Love Is Eternal" J. Weston Hansen, 68, passed away Oct. 22, 2005 due to a massive coronary attack. He was on a family outing with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were hunting the "Big Muddys." He was born Oct. 19, 1937 in Murray, Utah to Wilford H. and Esther Pauline Jensen Hansen. He married Margene Orr, together they had five children. They were divorced in 1967. In 1969 he met and married for time and all eternity, Sharron K. Killion. He adopted her two daughters. Mr. Hansen was well known throughout the state as a stone mason. He owned and operated Wes Hansen's Quality Building Stone in Bluffdale, Utah. He worked "in the stone" for 53 years. He never started a job he didn't finish. Wes was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a high priest in the Bluffdale 4th Ward. Wes is survived by his eternal companion, Sharron; his father, Wilford H. Hansen (Wick); brothers and sister, Barbara, Joe, Bruce, and their spouses; his children, Pamela (Kerry) Abbot, Sandy, Brad (Vikki), Rush Valley, Lyle (Shelly), Rose Canyon, Erik (Mary Beth), Rush Valley, Patricia (Jake) Jensen, Bluffdale, Velina (Mike) Miller, Bluffdale; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Haskett 1925 ~ 2005 BOUNTIFUL - Our loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grand-father, great great-grandfather, and friend, Joseph O. Haskett, 79, died peacefully at Rocky Mountain Care Center and returned to his Heavenly Father October 22, 2005 in Bountiful, Utah. He was born November 15, 1925 in San Francisco, California to Joseph Paul Haskett and Frances Oliver. He married Ida Hart in San Francisco, California December 10, 1949 and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple April 19, 1954. Joseph served honorably in World War II as a Corporal in the US Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater from April 1944 to April 1946 as an aircraft mechanic. He also worked for 33 years at H.A.F.B. as a hydraulic mechanic. He was an honest and hardworking man and he instilled those qualities in his children and grandchildren by his example. Joseph was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survived by his children, James (Francine), Bountiful, UT, Jan McKay (Robert), Layton, UT, Steve (Dani), Tooele, UT, Barbara Brines (Ray), Clearfield, UT, Robert (Kamra), Littleton, CO; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and sister, Judy. Kamp, Fern Elaine Justus Fern Elaine Justus Kamp 1923 ~ 2005 On a beautiful autumn day, October 22, 2005, Elaine, Mom, and Tutu left the side of her loving family to walk among the golden leaves of heaven. Born June 4, 1923 in Denver, Colorado to Harley Leroy Justus and Delma Lois Cross. She married in 1943 to Norman Johns Kamp, and lived in South Lake Tahoe for 30 years where she was prominent in many civic activities. She served two missions for the LDS church in Florida and North Carolina, was a dorm mom at BYU, and a sorority house mom at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Ragsdale, and husband Phil, Teri Boldt, Gale Sears, and husband, George; 11 loving grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; also siblings, Ruth Smith and "Bud" Justus. She was preceded in death by husband, Norman. "We love you, Mom and Tutu, and know you'll be watching over us until we meet again." Lewis, Ben Elden Ben Elden Lewis 1913 ~ 2005 PROVO, UT - Ben Elden Lewis, age 91, passed peacefully away at home October 20,2005. Born November 16, 1913 in Mesa, Arizona to George William Lewis and Olena Dorthea Kempe Lewis. Married Barbara Rae Wootton in the Salt Lake Temple October 4, 1944, and was married for 60 years. "He was one who loved the Lord, his wife, Barbara, all of the members of his family, his friends and associates, all his fellow men, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was grateful for the many wonderful challenges and opportunities that came to him during the course of his life which was filled with rich and rewarding experiences. His wish was to thank the countless numbers of people who have done so much to bless his life. His was a life of happiness." Ben spent his boyhood days in Salt Lake City and served as student body president at BYU in 1940 and obtained a Masters Degree in 1942 at the U of Denver. He worked for the Hot Shoppes, Inc. which later became the Marriott Corporation, as budget director for seven years. He then returned to BYU in 1952 where he served in administration for 27 years, ultimately as executive vice president. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Business degree in 1970 and a Presidential Citation in 2001 from the University. Ben served in the Northern States Mission and twice as a stake missionary in Washington D.C. He was president of the Sharon East Stake for 16 years, served on the Sunday School General Board, and was Regional Representative to the Twelve. Ben and Barbara presided over the England London Mission from 1979 to 1982. Ben chaired the site selection committee for the Provo Temple and the Fund Raising Committee for both the Provo and Jordan River Temples. He was chairman of the BYU Major Gifts Campaign beginning in 1982 and was involved in funding for the Marriott Center and LaVeIl Edwards stadium. He was on the Provo City Planning Commission for seven years, a member of Provo Kiwanis for 23 years and instrumental in the growth of Utah Valley Hospital. An avid supporter of scouting his full life he received the Silver Beaver and was president of the Utah National Parks Council. This well-known Utah County man sporting his distinctive bow ties has been a major influence on and off the BYU campus for the past 50 years. He swam and played racquetball every morning at BYU, worked in the temple, wrote memoirs and composed poems for greetings and Christmas cards. Ben is survived by his wife, Barbara; five children, Linda J. Lewis, Stephen Lewis, James Lewis, Mary Anne Turner (Judd), Salt Lake City, Utah, John Lewis (LaCinda) Gilbert, Arizona. Also survived by niece, Louise Holdaway (Boyd), Provo, Utah; and nephews C. Lewis Wilson (Grace), Salt Lake City, and Greg Wilson (Kathy), Sandy, Utah, who Ben and Barbara raised as their own children. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Lund, Jean Louise McClanahan Jean Louise Lund 1921 ~ 2005 Jean Louise McClanahan Lund slipped away peacefully October 20, 2005, following 10 years enduring with dignity the ravages of severe dementia. Jean, born November 6, 1921, was adopted as an infant by Isaac Norman and Edith Mae Sutton McClan-ahan. She attended Wasatch Elementary and Rowland Hall in Salt Lake and Mills College in Oakland, California. Paul J. "Bub" Lund married Jean October 16, 1941 in Salt Lake City. Jean thoroughly enjoyed her family especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She delighted in nature down to each individual leaf and twig. Jean was a gracious hostess, especially on holidays and events at the family cabin in Porter Fork. Jean loved to travel, read, learn, and take care of her beloved animals. A unique, classy lady, Jean's flair for art, color, texture and design was reflected in her home, wardrobe, and love for weaving. She volunteered at the Salt Lake City Library, University Hospital, Canyon Rim Citizens Association, and for other worthy causes. Survived by children, Edy Howes (Ralph), Paul "Pete" (Robbin), Judy, Mac (Sheri), Tony (Jenny); sister, Pat Burnham; 18 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren. McGill 1919 ~ 2005 Paul W. McGill died October 21, 2005. Paul was born October 3, 1919 in Goodridge Township, Minnesota. Paul's birth occurred while his father, Henry, and mother, Augusta (Willie), were on a journey to begin homesteading in Joplin, Montana. Paul was educated in the public schools of Havre, Montana. In the summer of 1940 while working on a "gandy gang" for the Great Northern Railroad, he joined the Montana National Guard. The guard was mobilized in the fall of 1940. His infantry unit was assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington for infantry training. On Nov. 29, 1941, Paul married his high school sweetheart, Mae McCabe, at the Fort Lewis Chapel. Eight days later, Dec. 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Congress immediately declared war on Japan as the USA was drawn into World War II. March of 1942, Paul sailed overseas on the Queen Elizabeth which was accompanied by the USS President Calvin Coolidge and USS Mariposa. Almost three years later, Paul was reassigned "stateside." While he was overseas, Mae moved from Montana to Salt Lake City to be with her parents. When Paul returned from the war their daughter, Carren, was nearly three years old. In 1945, Paul and Mae's civilian life began. They had 10 children, Carren Mae Linn-Downs, Patricia Ann McGill (died from Leukemia on Paul and Mae's 25th wedding anniversary in 1966), Nancy Kathleen Green (Michael), Paul W. (Cathy), Jane Elizabeth Razzeca (Michael), Barbara Sue Pintner (Bill), Mark John (Avez), Daniel Thomas (Susan), Mary Frances McGill, David Joseph (Christina). All of their children attended local Catholic schools and they all graduated from Judge Memorial Catholic High School. Paul and Mae have 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grand-children. Paul was largely self-educated. He attended the U of U under the G.I. Bill. He also received "on the job training" with a local steel fabricator. He became a licensed professional engineer in Utah and 12 other states. Paul was founder and president of: PM Engineers Inc; PM Drafting Inc; PM Construction Inc; PM Investor Inc; an associate member of Holland, McGill & Pasker Architect/Engineers, along with other companies and joint ventures. Paul opened branch offices in California, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona. His firms employed over 100 people. Paul was a Catholic and a member of the parishes of St. Ambrose and later St. Ann's. He was active in organizing youth athletic programs. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a contributor to the Catholic Foundation. Paul designed and helped construct St. Marguerite's Church in Tooele and St. Joseph the Worker in West Jordan. He was president of Judge Memorial Boosters Club, and of the Ambrosians. He was grounds keeper and president of the Rosecrest Little League (The real "Little League"). The field was subsequently called "McGill Field" now a part of Tanner Park of SLC. Paul retired at age 65. He loved to dance, take cruises, travel, golf and winter in Las Vegas. Paul lived a full life and enjoyed every day. His family and friends will miss him. Paul is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Ann; sister, Dyllis Bucklin; brother, Robert; two grandchildren; one great-grand-child; brothers-in-law, Frank McCabe and Frank Bucklin; and sisters-in-law, Mary Janet McCabe and Jean Mc-Cabe. Paul is survived by his loving wife and partner of 64 years, Mae; nine children; 27 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie Bachini (Joe), Dorothy Koenig (Paul), Rosemary Grubb (Harvey), Ruth Sutherland (John), Joan Pubols (Merton), Marjorie Reid (David); brother, Eugene (Dolores); in-laws, Harry McCabe, Robin McCabe, Anita McGill; along with many nieces and nephews. Van Wynen, Jan Jan Van Wynen "Together Forever" Jan Van Wynen, 79, passed away October 23, 2005 in Bountiful, Utah. He was born September 23, 1926 in Schiedam, Netherlands the son of Jan and Jacoba DeBruin Van Wynen. He married Octavie Gabrielle Althoff Van Wynen February 3, 1950. Jan served two missions for the LDS church with his wife, Octavie. Jan loved family history and spent many hours at the library searching family roots as well as helping others search out their family lines. Jan spent many hours gardening and was always proud of his garden. He loved to listen to good music. He loved his family and always loved to make everyone laugh and always toped the day off with a bowl of ice cream. Survivors include six children, Gabrielle (Paul) Ford, Virginia Hollands, Peter (Tina) Van Wynen, Patricia Langston, and David (Bobbie) Van Wynen; 19 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Octavie; and son, Jan Van Wynen. Waters, Ziska Neith Bissell Ziska Neith Bissell Waters 1916 ~ 2005 Ziska closed her eyes, and started a new journey on October 19, 2005. She was born on May 24, 1916 in Payson Utah to Maurice Bissell and Flora Hauser. Married J. Vaur Waters March 20, 1935. Later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, March 20, 1941. Mom was a grand lady, with many talents. She loved her family and friends. She was a teacher and example all her life. She served many church callings. Her love was the Salt Lake Temple where she served for over 20 years. She attended B.Y.U. and the U of U, was a member of D.U.P. and C.W.I. Proceeded in death by her parents, Husband and son, brother and sisters, granddaughter. Survived by daughter Anne (Terry) Carpenter, Sisters Edna Davis, Wanda Jex, Joann (Norman) Steele, Anna (Roy) Anderson, Barbara (Harry) Collard, and Brother Lynn (Karma) Bissell, 6 grand children, and 2 great grand children. Wood, Marjorie Ruth Rogers Marjorie Ruth Rogers Wood 1919 ~ 2005 Marjorie Ruth Rogers Wood, "Marj", 86, passed away quietly Oct 21, 2005, in Bountiful, Utah. She was born June 4, 1919 in Pocatello, Idaho to John G. Rogers and Anna Marie Anderson, and spent her early years with her family in Helena, Montana, and Rexburg, Idaho. Upon her father's death, she moved to Salt Lake City with her mother and her two younger sisters, Dorthy and Patricia. She married Melvin Walton Wood July 22, 1940. They built a home in Wood's Cross, Utah and later moved to Bountiful, where daughter, Lynnae (husband, William "Wim" Wallace Ray); and son, Roger, were raised. Marj was deeply devoted to her children and to her extended family. She was often surrounded by children, grandchildren, sisters, nieces, and nephews. She kept a cherished family scrapbook. She volunteered for the Red Cross, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and was very proud to have helped Roger earn his Eagle Scout award. The family loved their summer fishing trips to the Henry's Lake area, where Mel and Roger fished and Marj and Lynnae played with a doll named the Go-Fishing-Baby. In their retirement years, Marj and Mel traveled the nation in their motor home, sharing good times with lots of good friends. She had a love of poetry, and a wonderful sense of humor. She leaves a legacy of wit, wisdom, and dedication. Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her sister, Dorthy Rogers Thiessen; and two brothers-in-law, William "Bill" Thiessen and Raymond L. Jensen. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Jensen Harris (Tom); her son and daughter; grandchildren, Daniel Wood Ray (Marcy Lynne), William Rawlins Ray (Rebecca); one great-grandchild, Charles Rawlins Ray; and a large extended family.
