He was born Sept. 1, 1909, to Orrin Orlando Barrus and Mary Elizabeth Clark Barrus in Roddy, South Carolina, where his parents were serving as missionaries among the Catawba Native American People. He spent his growing-up years in Star Valley, Wyoming, and in Logan, Utah. He was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he filled a two-year, full-time mission to Texas as part of the Southern States Mission. He married Fern Isabella Rees On Sept. 1, 1936, in the Salt Lake Temple. Fern Died March 5, 1971. He married Mary Hill Ashdown on June 5, 1972, in the Provo Temple. He graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music. After teaching for some years he joined Kennecott Copper Corp., eventually advancing to the gold and silver refinery where he was called "Honest Abe" by his fellows there. His love for music stayed with him his entire life, manifesting itself in participation in choirs and singing duets with his daughters. He also composed and arranged music. He was an avid genealogist and spent many, many years doing full-time genealogical research. He loved his beautiful yard and raised productive vegetable gardens. He had great pride in his family. Thayer is survived by a sister, Merle Olsen; his wife Mary, children; Loana (Frank) Anderson, Oralndo (Dee Ann), Steven (Hope), Maevonne (Ron) Whitaker, Kendall (Judy), Lowell (Norma), Reeba Barrowes (Zach Castleton), Eldon (Terese), Ilene (Calvin) Alleman, Bob (Francine) Ashdown, Nola (Jerry) Finch, Shirley (Neil) Hathaway, Joyce McStotts (Tom Halliday), Ken Ashdown, Kay Lee Ashdown, 72 grandchildren and 116 great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Sterling and Clark,) four sisters (Leone, Zina, Lera, and Ruth); his first wife (Fern); and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel at 601 Mansfield Ave. (3115 S.), Salt Lake City. Bird, Danny Byard Danny Byard Bird 1943 ~ 2004 Danny Byard Bird, age 61, passed away Nov. 16, 2004 at his home in West Valley City, Utah. Danny was born April 10, 1943 in Springville, Utah to Byard Kelsey Bird and Tess Ostler Bird. He married Jeannette Rhea Rife on April 10, 1961 in Provo, Utah. He enjoyed running his own business. In his spare time he loved fishing, making his woodworking projects, talking everyone's ear off and tinkering in his garage. Danny is survived by his loving wife, Jeannette Rhea Rife; daughters, Caralee Curtis and Dominque Bird; mother, Tess; sister, Linda Smith, Debbie (Bird) Nielsen and Julie Schnakenburg; brothers, Bud Bird, Bill Bird and Tim Bird. He was born January 14, 1922 in Spring Lake, Utah to Amel and Albina Clemons Butler. He married Mabel Randle, April 14, 1946 in Eureka. She died July 30, 2004. Curtis was a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church, a member of the Order of Eastern Star Tintic Chapter #18, a member of the Tintic Lodge #9 Free and Accepted Masons, a member of the Provo York Rite Chapter #4 RAM, A Member of the El Kalah A.A.O.N.M.S. of Salt Lake City. Curtis was a Life Member of the Elks Tintic Lodge #711, and a member of the American Legion. He was also a Member of the Eureka Senior Citizens Young at Heart Group, serving as President. He also was a former Eureka City Mayor. Curtis was raised in Dividend and often talked about his youthful adventures growing up there. He attended Payson schools, graduating from Payson High School and attended the University of Utah until he was enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. He served as a radar man on the USS Block Island. He worked as a mechanic for Randles Service until it closed. He then worked for McIntyre Ranch in Leamington until retirement. He is survived by a brother, Carl Butler and his wife Beth; by two daughters and their husbands, Sandra J. and Jay Evans, of Eureka, Utah; Barbara A. and Russ Nelson of Johnson City, Tennessee; two sons, Randle C. Butler, Murray, Utah; Charles A. Butler, Benson, Utah; one granddaughter, four grandsons and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister. A memorial service will be held at the Eureka United Methodist Church in Eureka on Saturday, November 20th at 11:00 a.m. followed by military rites and a dedication of the grave at the Eureka City Cemetery, under the direction of Holladay-Brown Funeral Home, Santaquin. Born March 31, 1913 in Chestefield, ID to Carl Richard and Lucina Sessions Gustaveson. She was a life time member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Throughout her life she served in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Married Charles Arnel Byington Nov. 18, 1936 in the Logan Temple. Together they had six children Alvin, Joyce, Lois Ann, Kirk, Dennis and Carla. Survived by six children, 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Hopkins, California; Lucina Whitworth, American Falls, Idaho. Preceded in death by parents, husband, three sisters, one brother, two grandchildren. GEORGE, UT - Gary Allen Coleman, 61, our loving husband, dad, brother, grandpa, uncle, and friend, passed away Nov 16, 2004, of mesothelioma, a rare type of cancer, with his loving family by his side. He was born December 26, 1942, in Provo, Utah to Arthur Donald and Viola Mae Coleman. He graduated from Granite High School in Salt Lake City and Utah State University, where he excelled in baseball. On November 1, 1967, he married Jannine Shepard in Salt Lake City, Utah. They later divorced. He then married his high school sweetheart Sharon LaRay Florence on July 16, 1988, in Arlington, Texas. Later, they made their home near Whippany, New Jersey, where they lived for 15 years. Recently they joined the Coleman brothers in Hurricane, Utah. He is survived by his wife Sharon and children, Casey Jo Burback (Dennis), Phoenix, Arizona; Andrea Dawn Tucker (Ray) and Matthew Allen Coleman of Farmington, New Mexico; his stepchildren, Melanie LaRay Williams (Chad) of Flower Mound, Texas; and Ryan J. Taylor (Amy) of Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers, Revs. Arthur Donald Coleman, Jr. (Ann Marie) of Chicago, Illinois; Harold Dean Coleman (Karen) and Robert Jay Coleman (Carolee) of Hurricane, Utah; and seven grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother George Elmer Coleman. Gary was an avid bowler and earned his 300 ring. His kindness was felt by all who knew him. Dye Jr., Myron Jon Myron Jon Dye, Jr. Will be Missed Our beloved and courageous husband, father, and grandfather, Myron Jon Dye Jr., age 62, returned to his Heavenly Father on Nov 17th, 2004. He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Myron Jon and Lucy Jensen Dye and grew up in Firth, Idaho. Jon served a mission to Colorado and New Mexico, attended Ricks College and graduated from BYU. He taught school for several years and then served many years for the LDS Church as a custodian and later as a supervisor at Deseret Industries. He was married to Barbara Jean Mitchell and later divorced. Jon married Marilyn Fitzgerald on October 23, 1981, in the Salt Lake Temple. He is survived by his devoted wife Marilyn and children, Melanie R. (Steve) Sida, Myron Jon Dye III, Thomas R. (LuAnnie) Dye, Brett J. (Emily) Dye, and a father to Nathan and Amanda. His grandchildren, Rileigh, Austin, Renden, Preston and Payton were the apple of his eye. He was a younger brother to Gerald, Keith, Ruth, Norman (deceased), Larry (deceased) and their families. Hickenlooper 1939 ~ 2004 Wayne Clark Hickenlooper, beloved husband, father, grandfather (Papa), brother, uncle and friend, bigger than life, brighter than the North Star, our hero and the wind beneath our wings, stepped into eternity, Sunday, November 14, 2004. He was born on November 5, 1939, in Ogden, Utah, the son of Clark and Ida Hickenlooper. His mother preceded him in death. He married the love of his life, Carole Ann Fisher, in the Logan Temple on December 14, 1962. His wife, his children and their spouses remain to carry on the rich family traditions he established: Carole Ann; Annie (Mike Brian), Bart (Amy Chaplin), Bret (Missy Pettey), Erik (Amie Hancock) and Jed (Carrie Plotkin). Wayne adored his 15 grandchildren (adding a new grandson in December). Maddie, Collin, Alayna, Ryker, Charlie, Jack, William, Henry, Scott, Shane, Paige, Rachel, Ellie, Aubrey, and Ben. He loved his sisters, Carol Ferguson (Blaine), Connie Harmsten (Doug), Vera Wright (Mel) and Judy Marsh (Steve) and many nieces and nephews. He found joy in the smallest things in our world. He fed the birds, tended his flowers, made his yard a park, went for walks in the woods, and found humor in the world the best medicine of all. He loved music, the arts, literature and the gospel. These are eternal gifts he left his family. His missionary service in Norway is legendary. Our lives have been richly blessed as he walked among us. We will miss you Wayne. "Till we meet again." Wife, mother, grandmother, Minnie Mary Mitchell Klotovich has gone home to her Father on Nov. 17, 2004. She was a dedicated sister of God and was a dedicated wife and mother. She married her Cookie Mark M. Klotovich on May 29, 1937. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on January 28, 1955 . She was God's Greatest Gift to her family and her many friends. She was a wonderful example to all. She shared her talents in this life to make her home and world and better place. A haven during storms her home was open to all. Mom loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother and great-great-grand-mother. She climbed many mountains to make her life successful. Her love was of family, church, music, playing piano and organ, cleaning, baking, sewing, embroidery, and giving service. Mom has influenced many. Her gift was integrity and selflessness. When called upon to serve, she gave her best every time all the time. She has left a legacy with those who knew her. Her family will carry their love for her always. Thank you Mom for your love and example. She is survived by her husband and five children. She will be missed by her many grandchildren, great-grand-children and great-great grand children. Laurito, Deanna Jane Davis Deanna Jane Davis Laurito 1940 ~ 2004 Deanna Jane Davis Laurito, age 46, wife of Raymond G. Laurito, returned to her Father in Heaven 14 Nov. 2004, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Deanna was born 24 Oct. 1940 in PA, where she later met and married husband, Ray, in 1960. The couple later moved to NJ where they raised their four children. In 2001, the couple moved from NJ to UT to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. Deanna valiantly served as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a devoted mother with many talents, including sewing, painting, and woodworking. Recently, Deanna began designing and handcrafting beautiful quilts for each of her adored grandchildren. Perhaps her greatest talent was making others feel loved and important. She will be greatly missed. Deanna is survived by her husband, Ray; mother, Dorothy Davis; brother, Gary (Dianne) Davis; son, David Laurito; three daughters, Rachelle (Andy) Griffin, Rebecca (Kevin) Chase, and Ruth (Mike) Sabourin; and 12 grandchildren. Pearl C. Lerdahl Together Again Pearl Caroline Martinsen Lerdahl passed away peacefully at age 85 on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born Sept. 28, 1919 in Salt Lake City to Emil Alfred and Gunda Boletta Martinsen. Married Ralph Antone Lerdahl in the Salt Lake Temple on August 25, 1938. She was a devoted wife and mother. She made many beautiful Afghans and enjoyed her garden, luncheons with her sisters, spending time with grandchildren, and taking care of Ralph. Pearl is survived by children Ronald, Carolyn (Gordon) Holt, and Kathy; grandchildren, Troy (Robyn) Erickson, William (Jeana) Erickson, Tony Holt, and Shelly Holt; great-grandchildren, Codi, Terry, and Bridgette Holt; Brienna Innman; Grayson, Caitlin, and Nathan Erickson. Losser, 72, of Boise ID died of surgical complications on Friday, November 12, 2004, in a Seattle, Washington hospital. Lusienski, Edward John Edward John Lusienski 6/8/1916 ~ 11/14/2004 "Uncle Bud" Edward John Lusienski, 88, died peacefully Sunday, November 14, 2004 at 9:30 p.m. in his home in North Salt Lake following a lengthy battle with cancer. Ed was born June 8, 1916, in Platte Center, Nebraska to Edward Francis and Nellie Regan Lusienski. He attended St. Joseph grade and high school there and received a Ph.D. Degree from Creighton University School of Journalism, Omaha, Nebraska, on June 1, 1939. He was then employed by the Columbus (NE) Daily Telegram as an advertising copy-writer and salesman until resigning that position to enlist in the Army Air Corps, April 13 (Fri), 1942, serving three years and seven months in the Pacific theater. He married Mary Josephine Fitzgerald of Ottawa, Kansas in St. Francis Church, Provo, Utah on August 13 (Fri), 1948. In his declining years, he referred to that union as "the smartest thing I ever did." He was employed at various Civil Aeronautics facilities in Utah, Nevada, and California before joining the staff at Salt Lake City Air Route Traffic Control Center in September, 1955 from whence he retired July 4, 1974. He was an avid golfer for 65 years until a combination of cancer and macular degeneration forced him to abandon the sport. He is survived by his wife; sons, Edward (Janice), Philip (Sharon), Douglas; one granddaughter, Laura; and two step-grandchildren, Gregory and Amanda. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Catherine and Maureen; and one brother, Dean. Known for his quick wit and wry sense of humor, Ed (Uncle Bud) will be missed by his many friends at St. Olaf's, his choir and golf buddies, as well as his extended family in Nebraska. We thank them for all their support. Also, we want to thank all the friends and medical personnel who helped him and us along the way. Maier, Mary Francis Mary Francis Maier 1930 ~ 2004 With our deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Mary Francis Maier, at age 73, on November 15, 2004. Mary was born December 6, 1930 in New York City to Yugoslavian Immigrants, Frank Kristof and Josephine Scriba, where she grew up in Elmhurst, NYC. She graduated Newton High School in 1948, and went on to graduate Spencer Secretarial School in 1950. After graduation she spoke of an exciting time in her life working for JP Stevens Textile Co. in Manhattan, enjoying the city life. Soon after she married and left the city for her next phase of life in rural Wisconsin. In East Troy she raised five children and secured many dear friendships she would hold all her life. Mary was actively involved in her community life, proud of being a "joiner" in PTA St. Peter's Parish, and the East Troy Bowling league. She married Charles Maier in 1976 and worked with him in veterinary medicine, and later worked at the East Troy Police Dept. When they moved to Pelican Lake in 1988, Mary again became involved with her local Parish, St John's, teaching CCD classes, volunteered at the Literacy Program and worked as a housekeeper at St. Mary's Rectory. Mary leaves us a gift in gathering loving friendships, passing on good books, recipes and always a shared laugh. She is survived by her husband, Charles P. Maier, her children; Pat (Ken) Hyatt, Kathy (Dave) Perez, Bill (Sue) Norton, Peggy (Bill) Bolhuis; her grandchildren, Jessica Singer, Zachary and Rachael Perez, Ryan and Erin Gallagher, Kali, Alex and Melanie Norton, Laura Bolhuis, former husband Ed Norton. McClenahan, Edwin E. Edwin E. McClenahan 1918 ~ 2004 Edwin E. McClenahan passed away November 17, 2004 in Salt Lake City. Edwin was born Sept. 8, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York to Anna (Schildt) and William McClenahan. After graduating from Richmond Hill High School, Edwin served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941-1945. He married June E. Peverelly on Nov. 24, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY. He retired from the New York Telephone Co. and lived in Florida for 15 years before moving to Salt Lake City in 1999. He found a church family at the First Christian Reformed Church. He is survived by a daughter Judith A. Sabella, and a son Thomas W. McClenahan, as well as three Grandchildren. Edwin was preceded in death by his wife June E. McClenahan. Olson, June June Olson "Shorty" Our loving wife, mom and grandma, June Olson, passed away November 15, 2004 in South Jordan, Utah. She was born June 20, 1919 in Sandy, Utah to Lewis P. and Mary Jane Jones Webster. Married Clyde L. Olson in Union, Utah on August 26, 1939. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. June enjoyed fishing and hunting with Clyde and her family. She was an expert gardener, wonderful cook and loved crocheting, puzzles and games. Her greatest joy was traveling with Clyde and being a constant support to him. Survived by her loving husband, Clyde, who tenderly cared for her; also her children, Peggy (Michael) Wright, West Jordan; Shirley (Gale) Trapp, Oregon; Linda (Ron) Burton, South Jordan; and Mary Jane (Paul) Grizzard, Oregon; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Verl Webster; sisters, Mabel Handley and Lizzie Beckstead. Park, Dennis LeRoy Dennis LeRoy Park 1955 ~ 2004 Our beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, Dennis LeRoy Park, age 49, passed away November 17, 2004 from complications due to pneumonia. Born April 12, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Willard L. And Faye S. Park. He lived all his life in Murray and Taylorsville. When the doctors diagnosed him with cerebral palsy they said he wouldn't live passed 20. He surpassed their estimate and stayed with us almost 30 more years. He is survived by his parents; brothers, Scott A. (Susan), Bob (Brenda); sister, Nancy (Dave); seven nephews and one niece. Lawrence D. Posselli "Our Pillar, Our Paragon" Lawrence D. Posselli, caring husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 16, 2004. He was born May 29, 1914 in Salt Lake City to his hardworking immigrant parents, Dominick and Carmella Posselli. He eloped with the girl next door, the love of his life, Fina Chiodo, September 5, 1933. The marriage was solemnized two days later in Salt Lake City's St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Lawrence was the model patriarch. He exuded strength and confidence while still showering his family and friends with warmth and affection. He was the caring spouse, the doting father, the trusted adviser, the nurturing mentor and the truest of friends. His door was always open and he was generous without expectation, both with his time and with his resources. Lawrence worked for Salt Lake City as both Chief Deputy Auditor and Licensing Director, and for Salt Lake County as Chief Deputy Auditor in between. He and his wife relished their time together on the dance floor and traveling. He also enjoyed bowling and later took up golf, prior to losing his eyesight. Although his loss of sight robbed him of his cherished role of caretaker, it could never rob him of his playful spirit, his cheeky sense of humor and his thoughtful and charitable nature. Lawrence is survived by his son Ronald (Cindy); sister Sue; brothers Tony and Gene; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and 10 great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter JoAnn (Chuck) Westbrook and brother Louis. Special thanks to Julia daNobrega, his patient and loving caregiver for the last year and a half. Reed, Helen Burt Helen Burt Reed 1915 ~ 2004 Helen Burt Reed passed away peacefully on November 14, 2004, but will remain forever in the hearts and minds of those who loved her. Born July 4, 1915 to John A. and Luella Harrow Burt in the family home on 9th East in Salt Lake City. She is survived by her children, Bill, Joyce (McCammam), John, and Barbara (Clifford); seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and sister, Dorothy Flowers Clausen. She attended South High School and LDS Business College. Helen married William Udell Reed in 1936 who passed away in 1969. Helen worked as a medical secretary for her uncle, Dr. Reed Harrow until her children were born. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Dan's Food's for more than 30 years. Helen was an accomplished pianist and church organist for many years at LDS Grandview Ward. Helen loved a good bridge game and was a member of the same bridge club for over 50 years. She will be remembered for her enthusiasm and direct style, her indomitable spirit, patriotism and her passion for her family. Stevens 1952 ~ 2004 Randall Warner Stevens, beloved husband of Shelley, adoring father of Whitney, Mykan, Ty and Grayden, adoptive father of his nephew, Mike, and devoted son of Dr. Wallace R. and Ruth W. Stevens, passed away unexpectedly Nov. 13, 2004, doing what he loved most: serving his family. Randy was born November 25, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Olympus High School, and then went on to earn his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Finance and Education at Utah State University and Westminster College. For the past 17 years, Randy has been a respected educator at Cottonwood High School. Randy had many talents and abilities that he freely shared with those around him. He was a true craftsman and loved the out-of-doors. He served a successful LDS mission in Florida. Randy led an abundant life full of service to his family, church, friends and strangers on the street. He was his wife's sweetheart, best friend and caretaker, his children's love, stability and delight, and his parents' source of pride and joy. He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Wallace R. Stevens, and his sister, Robyn Adams. Randy is survived by his immediate family, his mother, Ruth Stevens, his sister, Roslyn Neilson (Gary) and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Dawes County, NE, she graduated from Chadron High School and was married to Melvin (Fred) Wolfe in 1929. Preceded in death by her parents, David and Mildred Berg, Two sisters, husband and one child, she is survived by her daughter, Janice Strotheide of Gering, NE; and three sons; Wayne Wolfe and wife Marianne of Wellington, CO; Gene Wolfe and wife Revah of Washington, Utah; Gerald and wife Barbara of Bountiful, Utah. There are 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews and their families. Edna spent most of her early years as a Nebraska farm wife and midlife employed by Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Fred and Edna retired in Scottsbluff to be near their daughter, Janice. They both spent their later years at the Northfield Villa Retirement Center where they enjoyed many friends and helpmates.
