Barnes 1928 ~ 2005 Dale Myron Barnes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, began his life on July 5, 1928 and left this world to be reunited with his parents on, April 15, 2005, after a brief illness. Dad was the eldest child of Myron Barnes and Stella Clark. Born in Downey, Idaho, he moved with his parents to Tremonton, Utah where he lived for the rest of his life. He married his sweetheart, Diana "Jean" Roche on December 8, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. Married for 57 years, he was her husband, her partner and her best friend. Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling, first with Grandpa and Grandma Barnes on trips to Texas in their younger years, and in more recent times, in the motor home visiting friends from St. George to Phoenix. Dad enjoyed family gatherings and Christmas Eve at Grandpa and Grandma's was always a memorable event. Dad was a man of integrity and was always true to his word. He did business with a handshake and a desire to give people a fair deal. He was involved in farming all of his life, owned and operated Dale's Red-E-Mix, and for the past 35 years, Barnes Equipment. There wasn't a tractor that Dad couldn't fix or a part that he couldn't find. Dad never met a stranger and enjoyed dealing with his customers and his many friends in the equipment business and he appreciated everyone who stopped by the shop to visit. Dad loved the beauty of the Bear River Valley and enjoyed driving around looking at the fields and crops. His kindness and generosity touched many and he always had a helping hand for anyone who needed it. His hard work and desire to "do it right" were a great example to his children. Not one to express his feelings verbally, we nevertheless knew of his love and devotion for his family. Dad is survived by his loving wife Jean, sons Ivan (Kari) Barnes, Gary (Becky) Barnes, Roger (Judy) Barnes, daughters Peggy (David) Deaver and Patsy Barnes, daughter-in-law Anita Dutson, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and his sister Evelyn Kemp. Meredith, Alice D. Beaumont Alice D Beaumont Meredith 1912 ~ 2005 Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Alice Meredith, 92, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2005. She was born on December 3, 1912 in Beaver, Utah to Joseph Heber Beaumont and Georgina Boyter. As a 25-year-old waitress, she married her boss, Arthur John Childs Meredith on May 9, 1938 in Beaver. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 23, 1961. Alice's life was a synonym of selfless service. She was never afraid of hard work and was often heard asking, "What can I do for you?" Working on a farm, then countless hours at the Meredith Caf in Beaver (where she was famous for her pies) prepared her for her responsibilities later in their Meredith Motel: washing and hanging clothes, cleaning rooms, and waiting on guests. She did all this in addition to the responsibilities that came with being a wife and mother. Alice was a gracious hostess, a wonderful cook, and a beautiful seamstress. She spent countless hours sewing temple clothing and once won a ribbon for sewing an exquisite beaded wedding dress for her granddaughter. Heavenly Father gave her many gifts: she loved to paint and play the piano and organ and often entertained her children and grandchildren with her music. She enjoyed learning and increasing her knowledge, continuing to sign up for classes even in her late 80's. It's no wonder that later in her life, she just couldn't sit still! As an active member of the LDS Church, she worked for several years (until her health would no longer allow) in three different temples: Provo, Mt. Timpanogas, and Jordan River. In her lifespan she saw a lot of changes in the world. She went from horse and buggy to cars and airplanes. She taught her family to be selfless in serving others, to be patient in difficult circumstances, and to be charitable to everyone. She is survived by seven children, three born to both she and Art: Ralph Joseph (Beata) Meredith of Murray, Utah; Alice G. ("Chic") McGowan of South Jordan, Utah; and Lucille (Dale) Guest of Nampa, Idaho; and four whom she lovingly raised from her husband's previous marriage: Alfred Junior "Jack" (Belva) Meredith of Orem, Utah; Gladys Meredith of Las Vegas, Nevada; Arthur C. (Wilma) Meredith of Orem, Utah; Eileen Wade of La Habra, California. These children blessed her with 50 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Leonard and William. The family expresses sincere thanks to the caring and devoted personnel at the Woodland Park Care Center and Odyssey Health Care for their dedication and kindness during their mother's final days. We will miss Alice dearly and take comfort in knowing she is truly happy and at peace. We love you, Mom. Seashore, Christine Ruth Christine Ruth Seashore 1949 ~ 2005 Christine Ruth Seashore at age 56 died in California's Sierra Mountains on Easter Saturday, when she should have been at Little Mountain rolling pink and turquoise eggs down the grassy slope...when she should have been continuing her exquisite line of curving powder turns down a 13,000 foot glacier. Instead, a massive avalanche snatched her away from us. Christine was born March 4, 1949, in Brigham City, Utah, to Eric and Connie (Caldwell) Seashore. She grew up in Brigham, riding Walt Mann's pony cart around the Sixth East neighborhood, sharing birthday parties with Susan Reese, being her inimitable self always: kind, adventuresome, busy, and wryly witty to the extreme. She graduated from BEHS, went off to college at University of Utah, spent 1979-80 studying in Norway where she picked up the art of weaving, the Norwegian language, and the grace of telemark turns on cross country skis. This last art she brought back to the Wasatch and shared with fellow skiers. Christine began skiing in sixth grade when she signed up for Brigham's youth program and traveled up to Snow Basin on winter Saturdays. Nick Topik was the brave man who chaperoned Seashore and her cronies on the ski bus. Skiing was her greatest passion, along with family, friendship, and pranks. She was a regular at Alta, an early explorer of the backcountry terrain, and worked a season in the canyon at Goldminers Daughter Ski Lodge. She graduated with a BS in soil science from Montana State University. In 1984 she married Jon Turk and began to help raise and love his three children, Nathan, Noey, and Reeva. Christine adored their five grandchildren--Cleo, Dimitri, Aiden, Jaimon, and Julian. She divided her year by seasons, spending winters in Fernie, British Columbia, and summers in Darby, Montana. This was possible since both she and her husband were writers. Christine published stories and photographs in Sea Kayaker Magazine and other publications. Jon and Christine were adventurers, paddling kayaks between icebergs, training a dogsled team, in Alaska, bicycling across Mongolia, and, of course, skiing, skiing, skiing. She once softly but firmly persuaded an Ellesmere Island polar bear to divert his path toward them. She had courage, daring, and physical strength but she also enjoyed the gentler side of life, like knitting, hats, baking almond biscotti, drying box after box of Sandpoint's plums and picking British Columbian huckleberries. She avidly read books and her weekly New Yorkers. She lived big. She lived small, noticing the tiny details of beauty. She lived her life as though she had more hours than normal mortals. Her sister and brother, Karen and Karl, lucky to have had such an impish love sandwiched in the middle of their family, miss her immeasurably. Her husband Jon sorrowfully continues a life without her in Montana and Canada. She also leaves her Aunt Betty, her niece Arnica and nephew Per, her brother-in-law Tom who has loved her since she escorted him and Karen on their South American honeymoon, her sister-in-law Peggy, her sweet parents-in-law Amos and Pearl, her cousins Tony, Greg, and MayLe, and constellations of friends to remember her. Oh we are all so sad. A memorial for Christine will be held at her West Fork cabin in Montana on the afternoon of May First. Wildflowers and backyard daffodils were her style. Please send your love by doing a kindness or encouraging a laugh in a friend, rather than sending bouquets. "While tightening the hood of my anorak, I thought again about the question that had popped into my mind on the first day of our voyage. Why would anyone want to paddle in the Arctic? I can't answer for anyone else, and maybe not even for myself. The simple fact is that 20 years ago the Arctic set its hook on my soul, and it has been reeling me in ever since." from "Paddler's Paradox" by Christine Seashore Kayak Touring 2005, Canoe & Kayak Magazine Special Issue Published in the Salt Lake Tribune on 4/17/2005. Sherwood, Eva Bonner Eva Bonner Sherwood 1913 ~ 2005 Eva Bonner Sherwood (92) passed away in Clearfield on Thursday, April 14, 2005 from the effects of age. Mom was born in Heber City, Wasatch County, Utah on Feb. 4, 1913 to Charles Edwin Bonner and Leonie Averett Bonner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Wilma Cochrane and Helen E. Mom lived a happy, active life, and commented recently that she had been able to do everything in this life that she wanted to do. She loved her yard and flowers, and served as president of the Bountiful Garden Club. She also loved her family, and was especially happy to have her "little ones" visit. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings, including Primary President and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. Mom especially loved to visit places related to American History. She was an avid fisherman, and loved to go fishing with dad on the reservation above Duchesne in their small travel trailer. A fishing highlight was on the Strawberry where she appeared to have caught her line on a snag (the pole bent double) but instead landed a 26" rainbow trout. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Utah Jazz, and loved to help Jerry Sloan coach, even if she was only watching the game on TV. She was a season ticket holder from the days of the Utah Stars, until just a few years ago. Leonard R West 5/24/1933 ~ 4/15/2005 On April 15, 2005, the patriarch of our family passed away from pancreatic cancer. Our father's life was the American Dream. Raised in rural Pleasant Grove, he dropped out of high school to join the Navy. His years in the service led him to a brilliant career in mechanical engineering. He met our mother and at the age of 21 they began a marriage filled with shared dreams and countless accomplishments. With our mother's belief and support, he completed his B.E.S degree from BYU and his M.S. Degree from the University of Utah. He worked at Hercules for 28 years developing rocket motors, the commercial uses for composites (the graphite golf club), and many things that, may yet, remain classified. In his spare time he worked on projects as varied as building a better Christmas tree stand, extracting oil from shale, and his crowning achievement of developing a cut system for the lumber industry. Our father was a calculating, spiritual, and visionary man. His family, friends, and community have been blessed by his spirit. He was a man of few words and many actions. His tenacity, honesty, and desire to make the world a better place are traits that will be passed down for generations. Beautiful sunsets, groomed golf courses, rainbows, mountain hikes, and prayers around the bed will always remind us of his love and devotion to our family and the Lord.
