Bailey, Betty June
Betty June Bailey "Granny" We love you Mom! We love you Granny! Betty June
Bailey, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away
April 24, 2005, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She passed away
peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Born December 8, 1926 to Robert
and Myrtle Carnahan in Grand Junction, CO. She married her sweetheart Glen
Dick Bailey, May 23, 1945. She worked for Soup Kitchen Restaurant for many
years. She is survived by her children, Glen (Linda), Sharon (Dennis) Balfour,
John, Frank, Penny (Craig) Hoopiiaina; granddaughter, Jennifer (Glen)
Thompson; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob and
Douglas; sisters, Pat, Loretta and Jackie. Preceded in death by husband, Glen;
sister, Shirley, Chad, and special aunt Pearl. Funeral services will be held
Thursday, April 28th, 2:00 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood
Rd. A viewing will be held Wednesday, 6 - 8 p.m. and one hour prior to
services. Special thanks to Hospice and Beehive Gardens Staff.

Bensel, Marie
Marie K. Bensel 1919 ~ 2005 Marie Bensel was born in Spaulding, Nebraska Nov.
4, 1919, to William and Clara Belle Nelson, passed away April 17, 2005 at the
Bennion Care Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is survived by her children,
Joel Bennett of Hermiston, OR; Judy (Keith) Ross of West Jordan, UT;
grandchildren, Bill Bennett, Jennifer (Cary) Auguston, Jill (Brad) Carl, and
Jessica Ross; three great-grandchildren, Skyler Ross, Keith Carl, and
Charlotte Auguston; sisters, Lucile Parton of Sacramento, CA; Carolyn Bernt of
Greeley, NE; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband,
Frank L. Bensel; two brothers and two sisters. Marie enjoyed her family,
quilting, word games, and people. She especially enjoyed her Star Family. She
was a Past Worthy Grand Matron of Oregon Order of the Eastern Star. She is
greatly missed. A memorial will be held Saturday, April 30, 2005 in Hermiston,
Oregon. In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to Mt. Vista United
Methodist Church Building Fund in West Jordan, UT.

Braithwaite, Ethylene Potter
Ethylene Potter Braithwaite 1908 ~ 2005 Ethylene (Trix) Potter Braithwaite,
age 97, of Mesquite, Nevada, was born in Park City, Utah, on May 11, 1908, to
George Melbourne Potter and Rebecca Sowards. She married Robert Carlyle
Braithwaite on June 10, 1931, in the Salt Lake Temple. Carlyle, a life-long
educator, passed away on October 20, 1956. Ethylene was also preceded in death
by her daughter, Jeanne Braithwaite Finlinson (wife of Fred W. Finlinson,
formerly of Murray, Utah), and her two infant sons, Glen and Alden. Ethylene
attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, earning a Bachelor of
Science degree in Education. Before and after her graduation from college, she
taught school in Levan, Utah, where she met Carlyle. After she and Carlyle
were married, they moved to Nephi, Utah, where he taught at Juab High School
for 20 years. In 1950 the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Ethylene
taught home economics for 20 years at Olympus Jr. High School. Ethylene has
served faithfully throughout her life in a variety of callings for The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She completed a two year Stake Mission
and an 18 month proselytizing/temple mission in the Virginia Roanoke Mission
and in the Washington, D.C. Temple. She was still attending the temple and
doing extraction for the Church when she was impaired by a stroke at the age
of 90. Since that time, she has lived with her daughters in Mesquite, Nevada,
and St. George, Utah. Ethylene is survived by her daughters, Carol (Rolfe J.)
Jonson of Mesquite, Nevada, and Gail (E. Keith) Howick of St. George, Utah.
She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 17
great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday,
April 30, 2005, at the Grandview 3rd Ward, 2930 S. 20th E., Salt Lake City. A
viewing will be held on Friday, April 29, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn
Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, and at 10:00 a.m. Sat. at
the Grandview 3rd Ward.

Bray Jr., Ronald Thomas
Ronald Thomas Bray, Jr. 1942 ~ 2005 Ron was born in San Diego, California
April 19, 1942. He died April 10, 2005 in Bahia de Los Angeles, Baja
California Mexico, as a result of a vehicular accident. He is the cherished
husband of Kathy, beloved father of Chris and Kendra, and doting "Grumpy" of
Sierra. Ron was a Program/Contracts Manager at Triumph Gear Systems and had
worked for the same company for 40 years. His passions included his family,
Baja, off road racing, golf, traveling and cooking. We know you fulfilled your
dream of riding your new BMW Dakar to La Paz. Via con dios! A celebration of
Ron's life will be held Saturday, April 30, 2005, 2 p.m., at St. Mary's White

Cahoon, Harold Pulaski
Harold Pulaski Cahoon 1921 ~ 2005 Our loving father, grandfather and
great-grandfather, age 83, passed away on April 24, 2005 unexpectedly from a
brain hemorrhage. He was born November 24, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah to
John Boyd Cahoon, Sr. and Marion Vera Carlson. He graduated from Granite High
School and the University of Utah. He received an MA, from the University of
Washington, and Ph.D. from the University of Utah. One day while sitting in a
cherry tree, he saw a beautiful girl. With a cheery greeting, "Hey girlie do
you want some cherries?" he met Priscilla Johnson. They were married on March
20, 1943 in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. They were happily married for 62
years. He lived in Salt Lake City and retired to Washington City, Utah. A
dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he is
survived by his loving wife and children, Harvey (Elizabeth), Ann
(daughter-in-law), Marion Searle (Clark), Bradly (Barbara) and Wendy Pettit
(Lee); sisters, Jane Hansen and Grace Ebert; 27 grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son, Gary B. Cahoon, and
brother, John B. Cahoon, Jr. Harold's career and passion was brick
manufacturing. Under his leadership Interstate Brick Company, founded by his
grandfather, expanded and moved to the present facility in West Jordan, Utah.
He led a life of service in organizations including the Boy Scouts of America,
United States Marine Corp (World War II veteran), Rotary International, LDS
church (three missions), the Mormon Battalion, Sons of the Utah Pioneers and
the Washington City Historical Society. He was an avid reader and researcher.
He published several books on the early settlers of Washington City, Utah.
Through his efforts many monuments to early southern Utah pioneer men and
women have been dedicated. His friendly style gave him rapport with people
from all walks of life. Harold was a genuine friend to the highest dignitary
or the laborer in the plant. All will remember his many stories filled with
counsel and advice. He deeply loved his family and was zealously dedicated to
creating countless treasured memories including family campouts, pheasant
hunts, church historical site tours, and numerous trips to Southern California
with all the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had a
fervent testimony of Christ and His church. He demonstrated it by giving
generously, raising a family strong in the gospel, and donating countless
hours of service to his church and to those less fortunate. Many of his most
thoughtful acts were done anonymously. Harold was frank in his positions on
virtually any topic and was uncompromising in completing a task. His word was
his bond. On the day he passed away he was doing what he loved most, serving
his fellowmen alongside his sweetheart Priscilla. Funeral Services will be
held on Friday, April 29 at 12 noon in the Valley View 10th Ward Chapel at
1985 East 3900 So. Friends may visit Thursday, April 28th, 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch
Lawn Mortuary, 3601 Highland Drive and Friday April 29, at the ward from 10:45
- 11:45 a.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held
in Washington, Utah date TBA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
contributions to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.

Carpenter-Williams, Linda Sue
Linda Sue Carpenter-Williams 1947 ~ 2005 Linda Sue Carpenter-Williams, age 58,
passed away April 24, 2005 in West Valley City, Utah. Born February 20, 1947
in Lubbock, Texas. Married Kenneth Marlin Williams. She worked for Litton
Industries and Northrup-Grummon Industries for 37 years. Survived by husband,
Kenneth; children: Trent Carpenter, Grants Pass, OR; Ryan (Dianne) Williams,
Medford, OR; Heather Williams, Seattle, WA; Cathlin Bennett, Ashville, NC;
seven grandchildren; mother, Christine Norman, Anton, TX; brother, Donnie
(Rhonda) Buccanan, Roscoe, TX. Preceded in death by father and a brother. A
viewing will be held Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South
Redwood Road. Interment, Anton Cemetery, Anton, Texas.

Cowan, Barbara Louise
Barbara Louise Cowan 1939 ~ 2005 Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister
aunt and friend passed away peacefully following a long, courageous battle
with diabetes and its complications on April 24, 2005. Barbara Pulley Cowan
was born to Roy Daniel Pulley and Louise Conradsen on May 18, 1939 in Salt
Lake City. She attended West High School in Salt Lake City. After graduation
she worked for Pacific National Life Insurance Company and was transferred to
San Francisco where she met her soon-to-be-husband Cecil Cowan, who was in the
Navy. They moved to Magna Utah a year later where their first daughter Maren
was born. They moved back to California where they had their second daughter,
Jackie and were long-time residents of La Mirada. Barbara and Cecil moved back
to Utah (West Jordan) in 1996. Barbara lived life as a kind, giving and loving
wife, mother and friend of many. She was so appreciative of the help and
compassion she received from many. She was an excellent cook and liked to try
new recipes and she loved her pets and her houseplants. She was an active
member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as
chorister of several organizations, Relief Society Homemaking Leader, Primary
teacher, Beehive Leader in Young Women's, Visiting Teacher and Visiting
Teaching Coordinator. She enjoyed working on family Genealogy with her brother
Dan. Preceded in death by her father Roy Pulley and stepfather Rulon Williams.
Survived by her husband Cecil E. Cowan, daughters Maren (Brian)Vidal,
Jacqueline (Edward) Webb, mother Louise Pulley Williams, brothers Daniel (Kay)
Pulley, Robert Pulley, sister Marilynn (Larry) Larsen, step-brother Robert
(Loana) Williams and her special grandchildren Miranda and Robert Vidal,
Madeleine, Nathan and Mariah Webb. The family would like to thank the
countless volunteers and friends who enabled Barbara to remain in her home
during these last few years and the wonderful doctors, medical caregivers and
the staff of the South Valley Dialysis Center. Funeral services will be
Friday, April 29th at the Welby Stake Center 8841 S. 4800 W., West Jordan,
Utah at 12:00 noon. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8
p.m. at the stake center as well as Friday morning prior to the services from

Aileen Cropper 1914 ~ 2005 MARYSVALE, UTAH - Aileen Evelyn Gibbs Cropper, 90,
passed away April 24, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born November 28,
1914 in Marysvale to Herbert Spencer and Charlotte Ann Clement Gibbs. She
married the love of her life, Walter Jeremiah Cropper on November 23, 1932 in
Marysvale. They were married for 58 years and are the parents of three
children, Charleen (Max) Mitchell of Marysvale; Chloe Ann Lunt (Terry) Kendall
of Nephi; Norman (Diana) Cropper of Las Vegas, NV. She is also survived by 15
grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She
is preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Norman, Manton
and Dana; stepbrother, Delone (Estelle) Jensen; a son-in-law, Gary Lunt; one
granddaughter; one great-grandson and a great-granddaughter. Funeral services,

Dickie, Martha Mennen
Martha Mennen Dickie 1928 ~ 2005 Martha Mennen Dickie finally reached home on
April 20 in Salt Lake City, Utah, free, restored, fulfilled and united with
Jesus whom she trusted and loved so passionately. Born February 16, 1928 in
Lafayette, Indiana to Floyd and Bonnie Mennen, Martha attended West Lafayette
High School in Lafayette and Indiana Central College in Indianapolis, class of
1950, B.S. in Education. She was college Homecoming Queen and representative
for Cherry Blossom Princess, Washington D.C. She taught vocal music in
Indianapolis, Mishawaka, Indiana and Wapakoneta, Ohio. She also taught Special
Education for 17 years in Tustin, California. Music was her passion. During
her school years she won various music awards, such as 1st place in Indiana
State Violin and National String Quartet Contests. She sang in the Speedway,
Indiana Musical group and television's Hour of Power choir at the Garden Grove
Community Church in California. She was a member of Mount Olympus Presbyterian
Church, Salt Lake City, and a faithful servant of Jesus Christ, her Lord and
Savior. Her family continues to walk in her spiritual legacy as she taught us
to live wisely, act rightly and love deeply. She married the love of her life,
James Dickie, on August 14, 1954, and celebrated 50 years of marriage this
past year. They shared homes in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and California before
retiring to Utah in 1993. She is survived by her husband and three loving
children: Steven Mennen Dickie (Linda) of Wichita, Kansas; Kristine Ann Jones
(Robert) of Salt Lake City; and Lora Dickie Hicks (Kenneth) of Greenville,
South Carolina. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Joshua Dickie;
Matthew, Michael, Heather and Hannah Jones; Claire, Fuller and Lucy Hicks; and
sister, Betty Pickering of Lafayette, Indiana. A Memorial Service will be
Thursday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at the Mount Olympus Presbyterian Church, 3280
East 3900 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84124. Interment will be held at Wasatch
Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. In lieu of flowers,

Finlayson, Erin Elizabeth
Erin Elizabeth Finlayson 12/26/80 ~ 4/25/05 Our beloved daughter,
granddaughter, sister, and friend, Erin Elizabeth Finlayson passed on to the
next life on April 25, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. Erin was born on
December 26,1980 in Fairfax, Virginia and lived up in every way to the meaning
of her name, "peaceful spirit." She brought joy to all her knew her, but
especially to her family and friends. At age three she moved with her parents
to Iowa City, Iowa where she attended public schools, playing the violin in
the school orchestra and pursued her love of animals, especially horses. She
became a wonderful sister to her younger brothers. She was an active LDS
member of the Iowa City First Ward, and subsequently the Orchard Park, New
York First Ward, and Center Creek Ward in Heber City, Utah. She graduated from
Wasatch High School in 1999. She was an Honors student who loved all learning
and planned to become a veterinary doctor until the diagnosis of cancer the
summer of her graduation year. She was an active member of the Wasatch Pony
Club and loved to compete in Three-Day Eventing on her Morgan mare Honey Dew.
They both especially loved Cross-Country Jumping as well as trail riding in
the mountains around Heber. Erin had a special way with animals and had
previously volunteered at the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City and later worked
part-time at Arcadia Veterinary Clinic in Heber City, Utah. Despite her long
illness, Erin attended Brigham Young University both on campus when possible,
and through on-line courses when ill. Her college roommates at BYU brought joy
and needed support to her daily challenges. Erin's love of life was infectious
and her bravery and dignity in the face of incredible pain and suffering
remains an example of undaunted human courage to all her knew her. She was
greatly loved by the doctors and nursing staff of Primary Children's Hospital
who came to be her second family and who cared for her with loving attention.
Erin was able to travel with her mother to the Near East and Italy, and
enjoyed a special trip with her family to England and Scotland in Spring,
2004. Erin is survived by her mother, father, and brothers Cynthia, Donald,
Forrest and Taylor Finlayson of Heber City, Utah; one grandmother, Patricia
Alder of Yankton, South Dakota; and her aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family
wishes to thank all who have supported them through this struggle, especially
the doctors and staff of Primary Children's Hospital and the Huntsman Cancer
Center, members of Center Creek Ward, and family and friends. A memorial
service and luncheon celebrating Erin's life will be held at Center Creek
First Ward on April 29, 2005 from 11:00-12:00. All who knew and loved Erin are
invited to attend.

Fisco, Michael David
Michael David Fisco 5/14/1962 ~ 4/24/2005 Adored Husband, Daddy, Son, Brother,
Uncle and Friend, Michael David Fisco, age 42, joined his grandparents after a
very short, yet courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 14, 1962 in
Killeen, Texas to Richard and LaVerne Fisco. He graduated from Union High
School in Roosevelt, Utah with honors. He married Brandy Allred on September
27, 1998 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mike treasured the time spent with his wife
and children. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing with family and
friends. He also loved working with his hands and was an exceptional
craftsman. Mike's personality and creativity were as colorful as the flowers
found in his garden. He will be greatly missed. Mike is survived by his wife,
Brandy Fisco; daughters, McKayle and Tayzha; son, Gadge; parents, Richard and
LaVerne Fisco; sister, Terri Cates; brothers, Rich (Marsha) Fisco, Steve Fisco
and Tony Fisco. He is preceded in death by his grandparents. Funeral Services
will be held Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 12:00 noon at the Kearns 6th Ward,
5215 South 4260 West. The family will receive friends at a viewing Thursday

Jack Freestone 1927 ~ 2005 Jack Freestone, 78 died April 26, 2005 in a West
Jordan Hospital of natural causes. Born April 3, 1927 in Bountiful, Utah to
George Lloyd and Ivy Maude Longson Freestone. Married Betty Rose Peters April
3, 1945 in Corrine, Utah. Member of the Jehovah's Witness Church and retired
from Kennecott Copper. Survived by his wife Betty, children Linda Wheeler,
Dale (Darla) Freestone, Sherrie (Ralph) Gerber, Richard (Julie) Freestone, and
Kelly (Denise) Freestone; 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Fri. at 1 p.m. at the West Jordan Cemetery.

Frye, Inez LaVern Clegg (Barlow)
Inez LaVern Barlow Clegg Frye 1916 ~ 2005 BRIGHAM CITY - LaVern, last born and
last of nine siblings to transition from this life at 89 yrs., was born
January 27, 1916, in Etna, Utah to Annie Paskett and Jessie Barlow. She died
on April 23, 2005, in Brigham City, Utah where she has resided for about 60
years. LaVern grew up on a ranch in Grouse Creek, Utah where she was able to
complete 10th grade in a one room schoolhouse. She liked music, church dances,
animals (especially cats), the JAZZ and long rides in the mountains. LaVern
married Myrl Criddle Clegg on August 17, 1941 in Malad, Idaho
(divorced/deceased). Three daughters in that marriage, Sandra Lee Vyvlecha,
Jourdanton, TX; Dianne Clegg, Midvale, Utah; Dixie Seber, Corrine, Utah. She
Married William Jack Frye on April 11, 1950 in the Logan Temple (deceased).
One daughter in that marriage: Marilyn Gold, West Allis, WI. One stepson:
William (Bill) Frye, Brigham City. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 26 great
grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in
death by stepson Glenn H. Frye, parents, siblings: Emma Kimber, Roy Barlow,
Melvin Barlow, J. Lester Barlow, Francis (Frank) Barlow, Adella Bigham, Louise
Ballingham, Sidney Raymond Barlow and one great-granddaughter, Kendall Key.
LaVern will gladly be greeted by her earthly parents, family, friends, pets
and Father and Mother in Heaven, as she is now free from the physical pains
that mortality encumbers. You can now dance again. Funeral services and

Gonzalez, Pilar V. "Nino"
Pilar V. Gonzalez "Nino" Juntos para Siempre Pilar V. Gonzalez, 80, passed
away April 25, 2005. Born October 12, 1924 in Yahualica, Jalisco, Mexico to
Guadalupe and Dominga Vasquez Gonzalez. He was an active member of the Centro
Civico Mexicano for 25 years. He was employed with Union Pacific Railroad for
43 years. We will all remember him for giving us his "nicknames" and for
playing practical jokes. He was everyone's "Nino". He loved to play the
harmonica, listen to Mexican music, fishing and watching sports. He loved his
family and was always there for anyone who needed him. He is survived by three
daughters, Rita (Mauro) Franco, Marian Amador and Daria (Jose Luis) Chacon. 10
grandchildren, 12 great-grand-children, one great-great-grandchild, and other
family in California and Mexico. Preceded in death by his devoted partner of
34 years, Frances "Pancha" Yanez-Gonzalez and three great-children. A Funeral
mass will be celebrated on Fri., April 29 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe
Catholic Church, 715 W. 300 N. A vigil service will be held Thurs., April 28

Christopher Richard Gray Called Home for a Final Mission Christopher Richard
Gray was called to his final mission on Saturday April 23, 2005. Chris was
born February 15, 1978, to Richard (Dick) and Jodi Gray in Salt Lake City,
Utah. Chris was raised in Fort Union, Utah and then later moved to Cedar
Hills. Shortly after that he moved to Orem. He attended Utah Valley State
College and worked for Lowes until his illness in November when he then moved
back home with his family. Chris was active in the LDS church. He earned his
Eagle Scout award, Duty to God award and was a 4-year seminary graduate
student. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1996. Chris faithfully
served a mission in 1997-1999 in the Texas Houston South Mission. Chris always
had a smile on his face and loved life. He truly was a man without guile. The
purpose of Chris's life was on how we responded to him and not that he was
being tested. Chris is survived by his parents, sisters, Amber Howard (John)
and Brooklynn Wilson (Pete) and nephew, Dagan Howard; grandparents, Vaughn
Fairbanks, Viola and Clair Clayton and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Chris
is preceded in death by his grandparents Don and Helen Gray. The viewing will
be held on Thurs. April 28, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at the Chesterfield Chapel,
9737 N. Chesterfield Dr. in Cedar Hills. The Funeral will be held on Fri.,
April 29, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Cedar Hills Stake Center, 3950 W. Cedar Hills
Dr. A viewing will be one hour prior to the funeral from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45
a.m. Interment Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The Family wishes to thank Dr. Brian
Tudor and his staff at the Central Utah Clinic and the Medical staff on 4 West

Hansen, Peggy
Peggy Hansen "Our Hero" Peggy Hansen, our awesome wife, mother, grandmother,
sister, and friend, passed away April 25, 2005 at home from ovarian cancer,
surrounded by her loved ones. Born July 20, 1949 in Midvale, Utah to Jesse R.
Hansen and Mary Joyce Peterson Hansen. Married Jeff Hansen Dec 1, 1967, later
solemnized in the Manti Temple on May 21, 1972. Worked as an in-school
suspension aide for Murray School District. She had a knack for being able to
discipline problem children and have them still love her. Active member of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has a strong testimony.
Worked in many different callings over the years. Served as a temple worker in
the Jordan River Temple. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren,
and enjoyed doing anything where the whole family was involved. Loved to
travel, and to visit our mountain cabin in Sanpete County. Was very fun,
energetic and had a quick wit. Peggy was always totally unselfish and always
put others ahead of herself. Survived by her husband of more than 37 years,
Jeff Hansen - Murray; children: Shari Sweat (divorced) Stockton, UT; Robynn
Pool (Ryan) South Jordan; April Hunter (Greg) West Jordan; and Jesse Hansen
(Kalie) West Jordan; grandchildren: Tyrell, Kayla, Clayton, Carson, Kassidy,
Kenley, Casey, and Aubree; sister, Vona Tanner (Calvin), Roy; also her Yorkie,
"Princess Annie". A heart felt thanks to all the nurses, doctors, aides, etc.
at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on
Friday, April 29, 2005 at the Little Cottonwood 18th Ward, 6410 So. 725 E.
Friends may call Thursday, April 28th from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary,
4760 So. State St., and Friday from 11:00-11:45 a.m. at the church prior to

Jepson, Myles Allen
Myles Allen Jepson 1919 ~ 2005 Myles Allen Jepson, 86, passed away peacefully
on April 23, 2005. He was born to Leonard and Gladys Jepson on March 19, 1919,
in Gunnison, Utah. He was raised in Gunnison and Twin Falls, Idaho. He served
in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Reta Mae Mulford
Bullard on February 14, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Myles spent 24 years as
a meat department manager at Safeway and later went on to become a Utah State
meat inspector until his retirement. Myles was preceded in death by a brother
Ray and a granddaughter Shelly Bullard. He is survived by his spouse; a sister
Myrtle Bodily, and a brother Wayne (Ruth); a son Butch (Margaret) Bullard;
twin daughters Carol (Craig) Snow and Connie (Jeff) Seare; sister-in-law
Virginia Jepson; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 28,
2005 at 12 noon at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, where
friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to

Johnson, Bert
Bert Johnson 1938 ~ 2005 Bert Gene Johnson, a Las Vegas resident for 16 years,
quietly passed away April 22, 2005 surrounded by his loved ones. Born Jan. 30,
1938 in Los Angeles, California to Doris and Alford Johnson. Bert married
Myrna Ann Moses on Sept 4, 1958 in Salt Lake City. Survived by his wife,
Myrna; four children: daughters, Kathy Whytock and husband, Chris, and Sandy
Ambrose and husband, Kyle; sons, Rod Johnson and wife, Elise, and Doug
Johnson; grandchildren, Adam, Tiffany, Cameron, Nathan, Stefan, Courtney,
Kaylie and Ashlyn; mother, Doris Siggelkow; and half-brother, Curtis Johnson.
Bert graduated from Granite High School Class of '56, Salt Lake City. In Salt
Lake City, he was an owner-partner of Amherst Cabinets, which he dearly loved,
for over 30 years. He and his wife relocated to Las Vegas in 1989, where
shortly thereafter, they founded Pro Curb, which brought him great pride and
joy. Bert lived life to the fullest. He was a very energetic person who was
devoted to all his passions; his family, friends, work, and world travel. He
will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him. Our comfort is
knowing that in God's time, life is but a moment, and we will all be together
again. Our special thanks to all of the staff at Nathan Adelson Hospice on

Jones, Laura Maye "Teddy"
Laura "Teddy" Maye Jones 1930 ~ 2005 Our loving mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother, and friend, Laura "Teddy" Maye Jones, 74, passed away
peacefully in her sleep, Sunday, April 24, 2005 surrounded by family. She was
born in Axial, Colorado on May 17, 1930. We will miss her big heart, her
smile, and her amazing way to bring joy to everyone's life. She is survived by
her children; Edna (Johnnie) Knight, Maxine Reay, Charles (Peggy) Reay, Bill
Reay, Gladys Giesick, Hazel Reay, and Linda (Brad) Decker, 22 grandchildren,
and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother,
Bill, and sister, Eva. Our deepest gratitude to the staff at Rocky Mountain
Care Center in Clearfield. The love and care they gave, made it moms home.

Madsen, Delsa Maud Nielson
Delsa Maud Nielson Madsen 1920 ~ 2005 Delsa Maud Nielson Madsen, 84, passed
away April 23, 2005 at Star Valley Care Center in Afton, Wyoming of natural
causes. Born August 1, 1920 in Levan, Utah, she was the seventh daughter and
eighth child of Orson and Maud Warren Nielson. Delsa married Matthew Devine
Madsen in the Salt Lake Temple on May 29, 1940. They raised four daughters in
Murray and South Salt Lake City. She served in leadership positions in the
Primary and Relief Society organizations of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints and set a great example of giving service through church
callings for her daughters. Delsa was always thinking of others and especially
enjoyed sharing fruits, vegetables and flowers from her gardens with her
neighbors. She loved good music and instilled a love of music in her home. In
April 1999, Delsa suffered a stroke and went to live with her daughter in
Nampa, Idaho. In January 2004 she moved to Afton, Wyoming near another
daughter. She will be greatly missed and is survived by her daughters, Mrs.
Peter (Lynell) Vander Meide, Cove Fort, Utah; Mrs. Howard (Marcha) Wilde,
Nampa, Idaho; Mrs. J. H. (Kendra) Merritt, Thayne, Wyoming; Mrs. John (Shauna)
Groberg, Magna, Utah; 16 grandchildren, 38 great-grand-children; one sister,
Floris Stevenson, North Salt Lake. Her husband and a grandson, Thomas Vander
Meide, preceded her in death. We would like to thank the Star Valley Care
Center and Nursing Staff for the loving care they provided to Delsa. Funeral
services will be Friday, April 29th, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Mortuary, 5850
South 900 East, Murray. Friends and family may visit Thursday, at he mortuary
from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Friday. Interment, Redwood

Reid, Willard John
Willard John Reid 1918 ~ 2005 Willard John Reid, loving and caring husband,
father, grandfather and friend, passed away April 22, 2005. He was born July
24, 1918, in Genoa, IL, to Alexander C. and Edith McElwain Reid. Willard
worked in management at General Telephone and Electronics (GT&E) for many
years. On May 29, 1957, he married Gertrude "Doll" Cunny McFarlin. She
preceded him in death recently on March 5, 2005. He is survived by his
daughter, Patricia "Patsy" Olsen; grandchildren, Nathaniel and Cairns "Cari"
Olsen and several nieces and nephews. His wife, Doll, brother, James A. Reid,
sister, Ethel Reid Thompson and his parents preceded him in death. Private

Salmon, Robert William "Bob"
Robert (Bob) William Salmon 1923 ~ 2005 Robert (Bob) William Salmon passed
away on April 24th 2005, at 82. Born January 3, 1923, in McGill, NV to Jack
and Edna M. Salmon. He went to school in McGill and Ely, NV and graduated from
Granite High School in SLC, UT. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Forces
and U.S. Army Infantry. Though he rarely mentioned it, he received many
decorations that included the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. For
his service in North Appenines and Po Valley, Italy during the European
Campaign of World War II he received the EAME Medal with two Bronze Service
Stars. Preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jessie (baby),
Jack and Melvin. Survived by his brother Jay and LaVon Salmon, WVC; sister
Juanita (Effie) Hale, Reno, NV, sister-in-law Josephine (Jack) Salmon,
Richmond, UT, nephew Victor Salmon, nieces Linda and Brent McDonald, Janet and
Mark Carver, Juanita and Mark Catterton, Marian and Russell Durk, Edna and
Jack Gilbert, Louise andJim Budak and their families. His family will miss
him. Graveside Services will be held on Wed., April 27th 12:30 p.m. at the
Utah Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 17111 So. Camp Williams Rd., Bluffdale, UT.
Military Honors provided by the American Legion, Dist. 8. The family wants to

Sorensen, Travis
Travis Sorensen "Tadder Hosie" Our beloved Travis Dirk Sorensen, returned to
his Father in Heaven, Sunday, April 24, 2005. He was born February 25, 1977,
in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the youngest of three children. He was a fun
loving teaser, dubbed "the agitator", by the family. His one liners and facial
expressions kept everyone laughing. He was an avid sports fan and knew every
detail. Travis was the most giving person you could ever know from childhood
on. He was a bargain hunter and a saver. His dogs adored him and he loved them
in return. He has a wonderful son, Derek, who he is so proud of, an older
brother Ryan, who was his best friend and a loving sister Michelle. Survived
by his son Derek, his mama, Rita K. Pressett, his father David Sorensen. His
siblings Ryan (Kimberly) and Michelle. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m.

Leonard Wilkins Southerland 1919 ~ 2005 Born in Wolfescrape Township, NC,
September 27, 1919, passed away at his home in Las Vegas, NV, April 23, 2005.
Son of Leonard Garland and Cannie Estelle Grady Southerland, married Mary
Elizabeth Daniels, Aug. 28, 1944. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake
Temple. He served with the Army in Germany during World War II, and was a
mechanical contractor. Blessed with an abundance of courtesy, wit, and love
for his family, (including his sugar bears, in-laws, out-laws, nieces and
nephews), he had 'itchy feet,' loved to take the 'road less traveled,' and
that has made all the difference! He lived and contracted in many states, as
well as Mexico, Hawaii, and American Samoa. His work was marked by honesty,
integrity, and a lot of singing. He and Mary served in the Jackson,
Mississippi Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as
well as a mission in the Las Vegas, Nevada, LDS Temple. Survived by his
spouse, Mary; children: J. Claire Southerland, (Orlando, FL), John G.
Southerland, (Wanda Ericson), St. Augustine, FL, Margaret S. Edwards, (the
late Ray L.), Las Vegas, NV, Phyllis S. Condos (G. Scott) Las Vegas, NV.),

Cecily Belnap Griffith Wallace 1957 ~ 2005 Cecily Belnap Griffith Wallace, 48,
returned home to her Heavenly Father April 23, 2005 after a sudden illness.
She was born on February 2, 1957 in Salt Lake City, Utah to the Rev. Ronald
and Ruth Hansen Belnap. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. She is survived by her three children, Brandon, Alicia and
Taylor Griffith; her parents; her stepmother, Nancy Belnap; two brothers, Kim
(Linda) and Jason (Shamainne); and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be held 12 noon on Friday, April 29, 2005 at Redwood Memorial Mortuary,

Workman, Shirley Anne Hiner
Shirley Anne Hiner Workman 1931 ~ 2005 Shirley Anne Hiner Workman passed away
on April 23, 2005, in Salt Lake City, Utah; she was 73. She was born on August
13, 1931, in Gainesville, Florida to L. David Hiner and Janet Elizabeth Carter
Hiner; Dr. Hiner was the first dean of the University of Utah College of
Pharmacy. Shirley graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah; she
subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah,
where she was a graduate of the College of Pharmacy. She married Richard L.
Workman, Jr. on December 28, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a member
of Wasatch Presbyterian Church. Shirley was a registered pharmacist in Utah
and Texas, and she practiced pharmacy for over 40 years. She was a member of
the Utah Pharmaceutical Association and the American Pharmaceutical
Association for many years, and was active in many of those associations'
auxiliary and community service programs. She was also a devoted member of the
University of Utah Alumni Association - she loved attending athletic events at
the U of U, especially football and basketball games and gymnastic meets.
Among Shirley's many interests and activities, she held a lifelong interest in
the arts including the theater, ballet, opera, and symphony; she supported
several Salt Lake City arts organizations through their respective guilds, and
she always enjoyed attending performances of these "cultural treasures" as she
referred to them. Shirley also enjoyed traveling with her many friends, both
domestically and abroad. Among her international destinations, she made
several trips to Great Britain (England, Ireland and Scotland), and she also
traveled to Russia, France, Germany, Switzerland, Greece and Italy; one of her
favorite domestic trips was an Alaskan cruise. Closer to home, she couldn't
miss traveling to Southern Utah each summer to attend performances of the Utah
Shakespearean Festival. Shirley was particularly active in the P.E.O.
Sisterhood, in which she was recently recognized as a "Golden Girl" for her
50+ years of membership; she was a member of Chapter O, Utah. Shirley's
enthusiasm for the Utah Jazz is legendary, and she seldom missed a game; she
was also a lifelong baseball fan. One of Shirley's favorite pastimes was
fishing for salmon in the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon coast, and she had many
tales of the "one that got away". Her radiant smile and her infectious laugh
brightened every life she touched. She is survived by her daughters, Wendy W.
Corbett of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mary K. W. Moore, of Salt Lake City, Utah;
her son, David R. Workman of Petaluma, California; and her granddaughter,
Abigail Christine Elizabeth Anne Workman, also of Petaluma, California.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 29, 2005, at 12 p.m. at Wasatch
Presbyterian Church, 1700 South & 1700 East. The family will receive friends
Thursday, April 28, 2005, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park
and Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Dr. Private internment will be held at Wasatch
Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be
made in the name of Shirley Anne Hiner Workman to Cottey College in Nevada,
Missouri, or to either the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart
Association.
