Reimer, Sarah Margaret Sarah Margaret Reimer 9/21/19 ~ 8/2/05 Our mother, Sarah Margaret Reimer, passed away peacefully on August 1 at the Casa de la Luz Hospice in Tucson, AZ. Mom is survived by her daughter Linda R. McKee (Carmel Valley, CA) and son G. Gary Reimer (Salt Lake City, UT), five grandchildren Amy and Evan McKee and Jessie, Ali and Chelsea Reimer, sister Patricia Tate, and four nieces and nephews and their children. Her husband (our dad) George H. Reimer passed away in 1980. Mom was a wonderful lady. She lived a full life to almost 86 years, but we wish we could have had her longer. Born in Wheeling, West Virginia to Sarah Love Miedel and Russell Julius Miedel, the family moved to Piedmont, California in 1931. Mom graduated from Stanford University in 1941 and married our dad, then a Naval Lieutenant, after World War II in 1947. They had a wonderful marriage for 34 years. They lived in Santa Clara, CA until 1954, and then moved to Los Altos, CA, where mom was the founding President of the Federated Women's Club of Los Altos. We moved to Portola Valley, CA in 1961, Mom's home for nearly 30 years. Mom always put her family first and devoted herself to all of us. She especially loved to spoil her grandchildren. We all benefited immeasurably from her unconditional love, support and sacrifice for our betterment. She was an intelligent, well-read, and classy lady with very good taste, an appreciation for the good things in life, a love of the arts, and a great sense of humor. An excellent cook, she taught us this skill and passed on her love of preparing and sharing great food. Mom especially liked to read, particularly mysteries, and had a passion for flowers. Late in life she was very active in helping her church with floral arrangements. She also enjoyed jewelry and sculpture, and collected Oriental and later Southwest and Indian art after moving to Tucson. Mom always had dogs who were devoted to her, from Teddy to Jonah to Menlo to Bobo. After we lost dad in 1980, mom, ever independent, continued to live in Portola Valley until 1991 and then moved on her own at the age of 71 to Saddlebrooke, a beautiful retirement community north of Tucson, where we loved to visit her. We are proud to say that she lived independently in her own house until the very end, as she wanted it. Mom, we will miss you terribly. We couldn't have asked for a better mom, and we will continue to think of you daily. Thank you for everything you did for us, and for just being you. The family requests that donations be made to Casa de la Luz Hospice, 400 W. Magee Road, Tucson, AZ 85704. A service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 13 at the Portola Valley Presbyterian Church, Portola Valley, CA. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune on 8/12/2005.
