He has lived in Wyoming, Salt Lake City, St George, and Provo, Utah. Elmer worked throughout his life as an upholsterer. He married Viola Hamilton Anderson in 1933. Viola was deceased in 1965. Elmer married Anna Pederson Anderson in 1967, and is survived by his wife Anna. His children are Janet Loring (deceased), William (Bill) Anderson, Kathleen Brown, and Neil Anderson. He has 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was born on August 4, 1975 in Salt Lake City, Utah the daughter of James L. and Bonnie (Leavitt) Bennion Straw. On November 19, 1994 she married Justin Lee Bond in Evanston, Wyoming. She was an active member of the LDS Church. She was full of life and especially loved activities with her family and friends. She was a loving homemaker and brought joy to everyone she met. She enjoyed scrapbooking, camping, reading, swimming, and most of all spending time with her husband, children, and her family. Curzon, Seth Thomas Seth Thomas Curzon 1975 ~ 2005 Seth Thomas Curzon , son of Michael G. and Colleen Curzon, passed away August 10, 2005 at his home in Littlerock following a long illness. Seth was born in Columbus, Georgia on June 27, 1975. He later lived in Auburn, Washington; Provo and Salem, Utah; and Littleton, Colorado. He attended Salem Elementary School, Spanish Fork Middle School and Spanish Fork High School in Utah graduating in 1993. In high school he was on the debate team and was an excellent student. He attended Brigham Young University for two years majoring in Wildlife Biology. His true passion was falconry, which he pursued avidly whenever he was able. He worked at Storyteller in Salem, as well as Payson Fruit Growers, Taco Bell and System's Connections. In 1998 he moved to Littlerock, CA with his family where he worked for LA County Parks and Recreation at the Devil's Punchbowl. He was an active elder and missionary in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When a degenerative illness caused blindness, he became a student at Braille Institute and Foundation for the Jr. Blind. He is survived by his parents as well as his brothers, Joel and Robert of San Diego, Matthew and Richard of Littlerock , and his sisters, Jessica and Rebekah of Salt Lake City. His love and courage will be sorely missed. Devey, Janiel Janiel Devey 1929 ~ 2005 Our loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully Monday morning of natural causes. Born to I.C. and Anona Fox July 31, 1929. Mom grew up in Murray, Utah and met Wallace Devey on the 4th of July 1946 after he was discharged from the Air Corps and they were inseparable from that date. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 24, 1949. Janiel was married to Wally for over 55 years and raised four children - two sons- David Wallace and Denis Steven (Pamela) and two daughters - Dana Lyn Gritton (Ken) and Jill Bezzant (John). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Bryan Gritton, Robyn Gritton, Jeff Gritton, Carrie Gritton, Tristan Bezzant, Roseanne Bezzant, Rebecca Bezzant, Amy Devey and Brandi Devey. Mom and Wally both loved to travel and loved adventure. During these adventures they met people from all over the continent who soon became their "best friends". Janiel was a very special person and everyone knew it when they met her. She was always interested in what the other person was doing or how they were. She always made you feel special just talking to her. She will be sorely missed by everyone that knew her. Mom, we love you! GALBRAITH, CORT Cort Galbraith 1951 ~ 2005 LAYTON - Our loving husband, father, and "papa" suddenly passed away Sunday, August 14, 2005 from complications following surgery at Ogden Regional Medical Center. Cort was born on August 22nd, 1951 to Leland H. Galbraith and Annie K. Adams in Ogden, Utah. Cort was raised in Layton and attended both Davis and Layton High Schools. Cort married his junior high school sweetheart, KaeLynne Johnson on September 21st, 1968. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Cort was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and spent much of his life in the Layton 22nd Ward. While there he served many callings, but will always be remembered for his work in scouting. He was the Scoutmaster of Troop 402 for many years and delighted in watching many of his scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout. Cort spent 26 distinguished years in the fire service. During that time he was a firefighter at Hill Air Force Base and for Layton City. Cort began his career as a volunteer firefighter and quickly climbed the ranks, retiring in 1997 as the Assistant Chief and Fire Marshal. Cort was passionate about the fire service and especially fire prevention. As Fire Marshal he was instrumental in beginning the annual Fire Prevention Open House and Elementary School Fire Prevention programs, and was president of the Utah Fire Marshal's Association and Davis County Fire Officers Association. Cort had always wanted to drive "big rig" and spent many hours studying to obtain his Commercial Drivers License. He was so excited to recently begin working as a driver for Thurgood Excavation in Layton. Cort's lifelong dream was to own property and be a rancher. He spent many hours turning his dream into what he fondly referred to as the Circle G Ranch in West Layton. He loved "puttering" around in the barn or his shop, working the fields on his tractor, and raising horses on the ranch. He is survived by his father Leland H. Galbraith, wife KaeLynne, his son Cory Lee Galbraith, and daughters Heidi Lynn (Jason) Cook of Layton, Melanie (Richard) Jones of San Diego, CA and Shalece (Robert) Anderson of Layton; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Annie and his sister LeAnn. Cort will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. His life revolved around his family. He spent most weekends at his home away from home, the family cabin in the Uintalands. He loved riding horses, four wheelers, and snowmobiles with his family. His bright smile and contagious laugh brought happiness to everyone. Cort could talk to anyone and became friends with everyone he met. We will miss him dearly and love him forever. Kimball, Lois McGhie Lois McGhie Kimball 04/27/14 ~ 08/13/05 Most beautiful and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother and great great-grandmother and cherished sister passed away, Saturday, August 13, 2005 at the young age of 91, surrounded by loved ones. Lois loved everyone; everyone in turn loved and cherished Lois and her sweet, gentle spirit. She deeply loved her family and showed understanding, kindness and compassion to each of them. She continually spoke love and was Christ like in her every action. Lois was born in Garfield, Utah April 27, 1914 to proud parents, Jesse Earl and Maude Fisher McGhie. Lois fell in love and married her eternal sweetheart, John Coulam Kimball on her birthday in 1934 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The couple were devoted sweethearts, sharing the heartaches of life as well as pure happiness and immense joy. Her darling "Johnny" preceded her in death in 1993. They enjoyed many years with friends and family boating, fishing, and camping. John and Lois along with their son "Mickey" worked together at Custom Furniture (on the bend of the road) where houses were made beautiful and LDS temples were made heavenly with the hard working hands of the Kimball's. Lois was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoyed serving in callings in various organizations on both the ward and stake level. Lois loved Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ and diligently worked to pattern her life to please them, humble and sweet she was successful in accomplishing her life's goal. Lois is survived by her most precious gifts, her children, Connie (Dick) Peacock, St George, Utah; John McGhie "Mickey" (Shirleen) Kimball, Salt Lake City; Joann Maude (Ken) Moore, Draper, Utah; special daughter by choice, Janet Teerlink, Salt Lake City. Two brothers, Glen (Nyla) McGhie and Don McGhie; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nine great great-grandchildren. Lois was proceeded in death by her husband, John; her baby daughter, Kara Lee; brothers, Jay McGhie and Rulon McGhie; cherished sister-in-law, Louise Woodward McGhie; and her parents. Keith W. Keith Lambourne 1936 ~ 2005 The life of Keith came to a close at the age of 68 after a long courageous battle with many illnesses. He left us on August 13, 2005 for a new beginning. He was born on September 26, 1936 to Eugene Chauncey and Lillian Jenkins in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from South High and attended the University of Utah. Keith married Bonnie Loertscher in 1958 and resided in Salt Lake City until 1968 when he and his family moved to Anaheim, California and later moved to Norco, California. He retired from State Farm after working there for 35 years. He and his wife returned to Utah and resided in Salem at the time of his death. Keith loved baseball and softball and played on many teams until illness prevented him from participating. He passed his love of the game onto his children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play and even coached some of their teams. He also loved camping. For 25 years he belonged to a camping club that camped together once a month, where he enjoyed driving his motor home, playing games and bringing his grandchildren along. He brought much joy and happiness to this world and all those who knew him and loved him. We will always remember the lessons he taught us including devotion, kindness, gentleness, compassion, patience and above all a love for family. He will be missed dearly but never forgotten. We will always keep him close to our hearts and in our thoughts. Keith is survived by his wife Bonnie Loertscher, his children Kenneth (Sherri), Monica deMontmorency (Scott), and Richard (Julie); seven grandchildren Kirstin, Kyle, Aleksandria, Kayla, Kelsi, Kody, and Austin; a brother, Wallace and a sister, Wanda Wood. Oliverson Osness, Caroldene "Grandma Cheerios" Caroldene Oliverson Osness "Grandma Cheerios" 1928 ~ 2005 A gentle and kind soul, Caroldene Oliverson Osness, 76, passed away peacefully of natural causes in her home Saturday afternoon. Carol was born October 4, 1928, in Franklin, Idaho, to Hazel Evans and John Veron Oliverson. She was the youngest of four children. She moved with her family to Salt Lake City when she was 13, attended public schools and graduated from West High School in 1946. She married Marvin Wilford Osness March 23, 1948, later divorced. They had seven children, Marvin L. (GayLynn Thomas), Victor William, Helen Marie, Polli Ann, Bradley Leon, Grace Elaine, and David Michael. She also had 14 grandchildren and six great-grand-children. She worked at CB manufacturing for 27 years making wigs and retired when she was 75. She could always tell you the actors that wore hair pieces. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she loved the Gospel and had many loving friends in the Bennion 14th Ward that watched over her. Carol was one of those who always gave more than she received and was a delight to be around with her great smile and unique sense of humor. To know her was to love her. Carol was preceded in death by her mother and father; both sisters, Grace Downs and Helen Irvine; her brother, Vernon LaMar; three of her children, Victor, Helen, and Grace; and a grandson, Paul Thomas Osness. She has known much of tragedy but has remained faithful and strong, never losing her smile or love for others. Thanks to UTA-FlexTrans and its drivers who gave mom the independence she needed to continue working, do her own shopping, make new friends, and the ability to visit a special grandson, Jeffrey Osness. Park 1925 ~ 2005 Margaret Christine Robertson Park passed away at her home surrounded by her family, on August 14, 2005, of cancer. Born February 20, 1925 to John Edward and Maude Bowers Robertson in Nephi, Utah. Three weeks later her family moved to Long Beach, California. Graduated in 1943 from Polytechnic High School. Married Keith Park May 6, 1946 in Long Beach, California. Sealed to him May 18, 1999 in the Jordan River Temple. They lived in San Pedro, California until 1963, then moving to Midvale, Utah. She Purchased her own home in Sandy, and lived there until her death. She was #1 cook, loved ceramics, crafts, needlepoint, and making her home a place of love and beauty. After her husband's death in 1976 she worked at the Salt Lake Home for 11 years, giving them homemade delicious food. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Park, Christine Newman; sisters, Alice Sparks, Roberta (Ralph) Binnall; grandchildren, Carol, Blaine Barela, Andria (Darrin) Willden, Christina (Alan) Turner, Paul (Ramona) Barela, Darlene (Alex) Hunt, Marlene (Nic) Ibarra; great-grandchildren, Cody, Aleshia, Kyler, Tori, Cory, Tiffany, Cherokee, Isaac, Joel, Katie, Kennie, Michael, Natalie, Jeremy; and many nieces and nephews. She was born on November 24, 1918, in Rickreal, Oregon. She Married Milton V. Pedler Jan. 14, 1956. Hilda had a love for her family, gardening, and sewing. She especially loved doing humanitarian projects for the LDS church, and making dolls and quilts for Primary Children's Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Lorna (Ron) Shaffer, three grandchildren, one great grandson, multiple nieces and nephews, as well as her sister, Emma Burgamaschi. Rasmussen, Dana Thornock Dana Thornock Rasmussen 1958 ~ 2005 FRUIT HEIGHTS - Our sweetheart, grandmother, and daughter, Dana Thornock Rasmussen, 46, passed away at her home on Sunday, August 14, 2005. She was born September 24, 1958 to Wayne Orton and Carolea Nielsen and raised in Layton, Utah. Dana graduated from Layton High School and later graduated with honors from Weber State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Family Studies with an emphasis in nutrition. In 1978, she married O. Nyle Thornock. Together Nyle and Dana had four sons; Aaron, Tyson, Riley and Chase. Nyle passed away in 1989 and two years later Dana married C. Martin Rasmussen. Dana used her knowledge and gifts in a life of service to others. She authored three nutritional books; Eat and Be Lean, Lean & Free 2000 Plus, and Dana's Cookbook, taught aerobics for 12 years, and counseled thousands on increasing health and happiness in this life. Yet, her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Dana was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who sought inspiration and direction in all she did. Her Christ-centered focus and healthy lifestyle sustained her through seven years of the debilitating effects of progressive systemic scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disorder. Dana is survived by her husband Marty, her parents: Ken and Carolea Neilsen of Layton, UT; and Wayne and Jonette Orton of Independence, OR; her eight children: Aaron (Emily) Rasmussen, Elizabeth (Scott) Nielson, David (Megan) Rasmussen, Aaron (Heidi) Thornock, John Rasmussen, Tyson Thornock, Riley Thornock, and Chase Thornock; and her nine grandchildren. Richins, Wilma Smith Wilma Smith Richins 1916 ~ 2005 DRAPER - Wilma Smith Richins, age 88, passed away at her home in Draper August 13, 2005. Wilma was born September 2, 1916 in Draper to Archie Smith and Bertha Lovina Crane Smith. She married Vern Richins, June 28, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the gospel and her testimony was unwavering. She served in all organizations of the church. She also served missions with her husband. She was active in 4-H clubs, PTA, Draper Civic Club, Lady Lions and the Daughters of Pioneers. She is survived by her husband, Vern, of 71 years; children, LeLand (Linda) Richins, Dan (Suzanne) Richins, Melvin (Terrie) Richins, all of Draper; Mary (Kip) Hertz, Boise, Idaho; son-in-law, John Spratling, South Jordan; 21 grandchildren; 69 great-grand-children; nine great great-grand-children; brothers and sisters, Milton (Roma), Lynn (Jean), Ray, Clara Stephenson, Barbara Jenks. Rickford "Together Again" Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, age 77 passed away peacefully, August 13, 2005 of ovarian cancer. Born, March 10, 1928, in Magna, UT to Reuben F. King and Mary E. Manning King. Married, Roland L. Rickford, January 3, 1947. He preceded her in death January 5, 1991. Together they owned and operated "Rick n' Pats" pet center, where they both excelled as professional dog handlers and groomers. They also owned "Rickford Stables" where they continued their tireless dedication to the animals they loved. Mom always showed great determination, strength, and courage even when life presented obstacles. Memories of her will always include fantastic home cooked meals with the best potato salad, mustard pickles, homemade pies, ice cream and most of all Christmas candy. Over the last few years she would regularly deliver banana bread to her family and friends. She is survived by her two sons; Dale (Terri) and Blaine (Barbara), four grandchildren; Chris, Brittany, Lindsy and Aaron, six great-granddaughters; Sierra, Liberty, Rianna, Bailey, Katelynn and Mckenzi. Shafter, Charles Erdman Charles Erdman Shafter 7/28/1915 ~ 8/13/2005 Charles Erdman Shafter passed away August 13, 2005, after a long battle with Sugar Diabetes. He died peacefully at the Federal Heights Rehabilitation & Nursing Facility. Charles was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Paul E. Shafter and Henrietta Charles Hughes. He was a devoted son who cared for his parents. He married Norma Wade of Winchester, Kentucky March 26, 1988. He is survived by his wife, Norma; two sons, Charles Harold Shafter of Bountiful, and Joseph W. Kaye Shafter of Whittier California; one daughter, "Toni" Shafter Massey of Washington; and numerous grand and great-grandchildren. He loved his family. Charles was a long time member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the South Carolina area. He held the position of High Priest at the time of his passing. He loved genealogy work, extracting over one hundred thousand family names. He continuously gave support to those who were less fortunate than himself by donating food as well as money which he did anonymously. Norma and Charles went on eighty-six "honeymoons" together. He considered her his "sweetheart" and one of the great loves and companions of his life. Norma called him "Chester the Molester." They were a perfect pair. He will be missed. Eleanor was born in San Diego, California August 1, 1916 to Rev. Floy T. Barkman and Bessie Fagg Barkman. She was preceded in death by husbands Carl Lewis Palmer (1955), Russell Spaulding (1979), and her oldest son Carl Lewis Palmer Jr. (1997). She is survived by daughter-in-law Gloria Eveleth (Mike); son Michael (Barbara) Palmer; grandchildren Ellie (Travis), Charee (Bruce), Nan (Kurt), Carl Lewis III, Ryan, Jed (Annette), David (Julie), 10 great-grandchildren with two more expected; niece Sandra Sherman and two grandchildren-in-love Allegra and Ted Schicht. Eleanor was Director of the Extended Care Center and Assistant Administrator of New London Hospital in New Hampshire and served as a justice of the peace and a notary public. Throughout her life she was active in the American Baptist Church and was a member of the New London Historical Society, the Order of Eastern Star, the Rebekahs, and Ladies of the Oriental Shrine. Jason had a wonderful sense of humor and a heart of gold. He was very generous to all who knew him. Great sense of humility as a result of the challenges that came into his life. Steve was born May 14, 1918 to Roy and Ethel Pabst Voris in Scranton, Penn. He was of rich Dutch heritage dating back to the settlement of Manhattan Island. He attended Keystone College and Penn State, and was an Army Air Corp tail gunner instructor during World War II. He married Gene Yates and adopted a son, Christopher. They later divorced. He was a prominent banker in Scranton, Penn., and was president of the Kiwanis Club in the late 1950's. Later he traveled and worked in the National Park System and there met Lucille Oblad Stringham. They married in 1970 and later opened the Voris Art Gallery, located off the lobby of the Hotel Utah. Among his many interests, he loved art, books, writing, good food and all things in nature. He enjoyed a good joke, a hot cup of coffee and always had an interesting story of his past experiences. He cared deeply about politics and ran for various political offices. He was a member of the Footprinters Club and of the Catholic Church. He is survived by his son, Christopher (Carma) of Modesto, CA, His wife Lucille, and her children, Michael Stringham, Cynthia Dameron, and Susan Wagner, their children and grandchildren.
