Nixon, Vaughn Vaughn Nixon 1913 ~ 2005 CLINTON - Vaughn Nixon, 92, joined his eternal companion Saturday, August 13, 2005. He was born March 10, 1913 in Iona, Idaho, a son of Charles Henry and Mary Ann Newman Nixon. On October 9, 1939 he married his eternal companion, Ruth Margaret Nelson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their 60 years together was an example of devotion to each other and to the Lord. They have two children, Janet (David) Carrigan and Stephen (Judy) Nixon, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Ruth passed away January 3, 1999. Vaughn served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central States Mission where he was chosen to serve without purse or script. This began a lifetime of service in the church which included serving as a president in the 76th Quorum of the Seventy and twice as a bishop's counselor. He and Ruth together served as genealogical missionaries in the Ogden Genealogy Library. Born the youngest of eight children, Vaughn was forced to leave school after only eight years of education to help support his family. Despite not completing his schooling he lived a very successful and productive life, and was a good provider for his family. Vaughn came to Ogden during World War II to work as a guard for prisoners of war housed at the Ogden Army Depot. He later drove bus, and then began a long career in retailing that culminated with his retirement from Sears. He had many devoted and repeat customers who would come to him exclusively to buy their shoes. A tradition was started when Vaughn was working at Sears. He would give his grandchildren a quarter each time they visited him at work. Soon he was giving quarters to every child he fitted with shoes as well as to good boys and girls at church and any seniors who had a birthday. He could never leave home without a pocket full of quarters. Even in his final days he was giving quarters to those who helped him. He was always a good example to his family and the lessons he taught will long be remembered and passed on. The family wishes to express thanks to the wonderful staff of Country Pines Assisted Living Center in Clinton, and to The Caring Hands Hospice (especially Jeff Baird) for their kind and compassionate care of Dad during his final days. And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one the chain will link again. We love and miss you mom. Watts 1927 ~ 2005 "Saying goodbye is hard to do. Be loving, be kind, be true. Put your arms around each other. Stay together. Love your mother and take care of each other." Ivan J. Watts, a man we love and adore, passed peacefully from this life into his Savior's arms, in the early morning hours of August 16, 2005. Ivan was born March 4, 1927 in Kanosh, Utah, the oldest son of Wilford William Watts and Thrella Christensen Watts. Ivan married Olive Hansen for time and all eternity in the Manti temple on January 2, 1952. Ivan loved the gospel of Jesus Chris and his country. He served both honorably as a missionary in the North Central States and as a soldier in Korea. Ivan was educated in the traditional sense, earning degrees from the University of Utah, Brigham Young University, and a Master's Degree from Golden State University; although, the education he treasured most came from the mountains, the desert, from everything his Heavenly Father created. Ivan had a gift for understanding and caring for animals. Throughout his lifetime, he shared this love with everyone, particularly his children and grandchildren. With Ivan, trips through the outdoors - although not always safe - were always a "Watts Adventure!" Ivan devoted his life to his family and taught them all of the things that he loved: ranching, camping, horseback riding, fishing, scouting, gardening, teaching, and above all, a love for his Savior, Jesus Christ. Ivan loved life and the opportunities it afforded him. He was an accomplished rancher and educator, and worked for the BLM and the United States Air Force. After retiring, Ivan worked as a supervisor at the Delta Center. First and foremost, however, Ivan was the last of the old-time cowboys. Ivan is survived by his devoted companion, Olive; four children: James, Thrella (Alex), Bryan, Maurice (Jan). Six grandchildren: Kimberly, Jarica, Alexis, Luke, Landen, Raquel, and one great-grandchild, Case; brothers and sisters: Gloria, Marilyn, Wanda, ReVon, Raymon, and Douglas. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 19, 2005 at 12:00 p.m. at the Little Cottonwood Sixth Ward (Brownstone Chapel), 6410 South 725 East. Friends and family are invited to call Thursday, August 18 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, and Friday, August 19 from 11:00-11:45 a.m. "I will end by bearing my testimony. I know the Church is true and that families can be together forever. I wouldn't have changed one moment of the past. It has been so beautiful and full of love."
