As Jesus Christ guided her way in life, we are certain that Jesus guided her home. She was born August 27, 1947 in Helena, MT as the third child of Ray and Rose Seerup. She was the family's sprite. She attended grade school in Missoula and Hamilton, MT and high school in Bozeman, MT and Murray, UT. She was a dreamy, carefree child. She completed three years toward a degree in nursing at the University of Utah. Ann earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Utah. Ann and John McLain were married in 1970. Ann worked with her husband, John, at whatever endeavor he undertook. John taught Ann how to cook, about his philosophy, how to repair trucks and how to drive his semi, the Golden Clipper. Ann felt free on the open road. Daughter Jerel was born in 1974. She was a precious jewel for ever-so-proud parents. Daughter Rosalee was born in 1979 with severe health problems, but Ann's love got her through the difficult years. Ann always said that her love for her girls gave her the strength to do whatever was necessary. Life with John was short as cancer took him from the family he loved in 1982. Ann gathered all her determination and courage around her and forged ahead on her own to be the best mother she could. Salt Lake City was Ann's home. It was there that she rebuilt her life and spread love out to her many patients in the nursing homes and Home Health. Ann moved from Salt Lake City to Ogden in 2005 in order to spend time with her grandchildren and to give them her love. All the time she was not working was spent with Danny and Ariana introducing them to all the places and things she valued. Cottonwood Canyon and the many canyons in the Wasatch Range held her spellbound with their beauty. She drove to the Trappist Monastery in Huntsville to bring her peace and to recharge her soul. Ann had a very special and personal relationship with Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father. Her Bible was read over and over. Each day of her life was lived as the Bible directed her. We know she is wrapped in God's arms to receive his eternal love and grace. Ann was preceded in death by her father Ray Seerup and husband John McLain. She is survived by her daughter Jerel (Mitch) and grandchildren Daniel and Ariana in Ogden, daughter Rosalee (Alan) of Salt Lake City, mother Rose in Missoula, MT, sisters Judy of Missoula, Rita (Mert) in Lolo, MT and brother Ray (Marilyn) in Salt Lake City and numerous nieces and nephews. Osborne, Susan Ann Smith Susan Ann Smith Osborne 1942 ~ 2005 Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Susan Ann Smith Osborne, Salt Lake City, died December 2, 2005 at home surrounded by her family and friends, after a courageous, four-year-long battle with cancer. Susan was born October 8, 1942, in Salt Lake City to Royal Milton Smith and Hazel Ruby Warburton Smith. Susan spent her early years in Salt Lake City, Elko, and Moab. She married her loving husband, Phillip Eugene Osborne, whom she had met while attending the University of Utah, on October 16, 1963. Phil and "Sparrow" moved the next day to the Bay Area, where Susan subsequently graduated from San Francisco State University with a B.S. degree in Office Administration and a minor in Accounting. After living in San Francisco and the Bay area for nearly a decade, Susan, Phil and their children returned permanently to Salt Lake City. On April 30, 1985, Susan and Phil were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and sealed for time and all eternity with their three children. Her Mormon faith was a cornerstone in her life, and she enjoyed serving in the Primary, Sunday School, and Young Women's Association. Susan excelled in numerous vocations - as real estate agent, librarian, legal secretary, and most certainly as wife and mother. She retired from the Granite School District in 2004 after a very successful and enjoyable 20-year career. Her last position at the district was as the Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent of School Services. Susan's wide circle of friends included neighbors, associates from work (especially her two traveling buddies, Karen Westover and Linda Frank, who along with Susan were nicknamed the "Three Gypsies"), and three life-long friends she met while growing up in Moab, Nancy Melich, Karen Ellison and Annette Mestas, who forever will be known as the "Moab Gang." Susan enjoyed cooking, sewing, hiking, swimming, and traveling. Her love of travel was kindled during the summer of 1958 when her Girl Scout Troop #1, under the guidance of leader Dorie Melich, traveled by chartered bus from Moab to Mexico. Since then, Susan (the "family travel agent") has traveled with her family and friends to many places - her most favorite places being in Alaska, California, Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, Montana, New York, and Oregon. Susan, or "Grandma Susie," deeply treasured her grandchildren, Milo, Max, Levi, and Emma. She also enjoyed summers spent with her family, friends, and relatives at the "Osborne Country Inn" in the mountains above Heber. Preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Born to Russell Craig and Elsie Waterman Redenbaugh, November 30, 1919, he lived his entire life in Salt Lake City. Russ and Martha Janet Garn were married August 1, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple. For 63 years they enjoyed a loving, creative, dynamic union. While still attending the University of Utah he began a career in candy manufacturing. A recruiting and induction specialist during World War II, Russ was one of the first recruiters to enlist women in the Women's Army Corps. Following the war he established Janet Russell Candies in partnership with his wife Janet. Russ was a renaissance man possessing a keen intellect and impressive range of interests and abilities. A voracious reader he knew something about everything (and if he didn't, he made it up). He loved traveling the world and for a time used his extensive knowledge conducting tours to foreign lands. His analytical, observant mind was continually devising better ways to do things. He used these qualities to contribute to making a better world. His foremost dedication was to his family; his children and grandchildren, the beneficiaries of much attention and tutelage. A young adult convert to the LDS religion, he held numerous leadership positions. Community service was also a priority and as a young man he worked with the Junior Chamber of Commerce; later he served in the Kiwanis Club, as secretary for 15 years and then chapter president. Saetrum, Bjorn Bjorn Saetrum 1916 ~ 2005 Bjorn Saetrum, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and faithful servant of our Heavenly Father, died peacefully in his sleep on December 7, 2005, incident to age. Born July 12, 1916 in Bergen, Norway to Johann and Aagot Saetrum. He was the only son and had three sisters. He married Ragna Georga Rassmussen on June 30, 1945 in Bergen, Norway, later the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. In his youth he was an avid skier and ski jumper along with being a soccer champion and track star. He served in the Norwegian Army. Anyone who ever had the opportunity to sit down and talk with him would sit for hours as he told stories of his childhood and his experiences during the war and growing up in a foreign land as a member of the Mormon church. Bjorn was educated at the Bergen Technical Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He designed ships and was a shipyard inspector in Bergen and was forced to build ships for the Germans during their occupation of Norway. He met his sweet wife while ice-skating on Solveigs Lake, but had to wait six years to marry his sweetheart, Ragna, after the war. He brought his family to America in 1948 to start a new life, a life where his children could enjoy the blessing of growing up in the Mormon faith easier than he had. He started over in his career and worked his way up. He worked for the Lang Co., and Titan Steel and helped found Simpson Steel, where he served as president for many years. His genius was estimating. He worked until he was 75. He had a great love for his family and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was LDS and held many positions in the Browning Ward and the Holladay 12th Ward, as well as the Mt. Olympus Stake. He was an active High Priest. Zenger, Shirley Means Shirley Means Zenger 1931 ~ 2005 A very special spirit returned to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous fight with cancer. Shirley Ann Means Zenger was born January 29, 1931 in Los Angeles, California to Royal Webster Means and Lillian Livingston Means. Shirley graduated from West High School and married Kenneth Don Zenger on March 5, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. Shirley devoted her entire life and energy to her children and grandchildren, and her life was a true and classic example of a mother's deep, unwavering love. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored her warmth and loved her grilled cheese sandwiches and waffles, which she made, on request, hundreds of times. Shirley established many family traditions. One of her favorites was visiting the Temple grounds every Easter for family pictures. Christmas Eve was also very special, thanks to her warm-hearted festive love. She was a shopaholic when it came to her grandchildren and never failed to find some Christmas trinket every year to bring the joy of Christmas to a new level! Her home in Holladay was and will continue to always be open. Home was the center of family activities, especially the Sunday dinners when everyone showed up, including all of her children and their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even their closest friends. Shirley welcomed everyone with open arms and acceptance. Shirley's generosity and kindness to all will be a legend forever. Besides serving her family, travels to Hawaii were one of her great sources of pleasure and enjoyment. In addition, her visits to Europe and cruise trips left her with many memories that she often recalled with pleasure. Shirley had a talent for making friends and giving a sense of comfort to those in her presence. Besides caring for her family, she would often take care of others in need, including people who were complete strangers. She regularly visited thrift and bargain stores to obtain shoes, clothing, and coats, which she distributed to needy children at various schools in the Salt Lake Valley. Compassion cannot even begin to describe the level of service and caring of this amazing woman. Everyone who met Shirley loved her warm smile and her easy conversational manner. Even in the latter stages of her battle with cancer, Shirley made a point to make it to her early morning swim session at the Holladay Lion's Club. Her friends at the swimming pool were captivated by her warmth and concern for every one of them--although her condition was much worse than most others that came each morning. Shirley so loved flowers, especially red roses! She took great care and concern in her gardening to ensure that the flowers had more than sufficient water. Her almost personal relationship with flowers was of a childlike nature. She had an awe and respect for the beautiful earth upon which she lived. She was the anchor of her family. Shirley so loved life; she was truly an angel on this earth. Shirley was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Shirley is survived by her loving husband Ken, and nine of her 10 children whom she continually had a mother-to-child relationship with: Greg, Lana Jeremy, Kim Mark (Jaime), Diane (Frank) Moffat, Merrilee (Clay) Wilson, Darrin (Katie), Jill (Bruce) Dalebout, Shauna (Christopher) Quick, Justin (Libbie), and her beloved daughter-in-law, Joni. Shirley is preceded in her death by the passing of her most loving and handsome son, Kevin, in 1978. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. We will deeply miss her love and devotion. The family would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who assisted Shirley with her care and treatment. A viewing is scheduled on Friday, December 9, 2005 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Services are scheduled at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2005 at the Holladay 11th Ward, 2065 East 4675 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84117. Interment - Wasatch Lawn, 3401 South Highland Drive. We would like to give a tribute to our father/grandfather who so kindly cared for his "little flower Shirley Ann" during her five-year struggle with cancer. Ken was always by her side until the very end and could not have been a more devoted husband. Love, your children and grandchildren. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune from 12/8/2005 - 12/10/2005.
