He served an LDS Mission in Great Britain. Graduated from the University of Utah with honors while also active in the ROTC. Upon first meeting of Larue Amundsen of Salt Lake City, Dale knew she was his soul mate and she felt the same. They married on December 29, 1941, while Dale was in the midst of preparing to serve his country in the United States Army, assigned to the 9th Field Artillery of the 3rd Infantry Division. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Dee Ansell was born to this wonderful marriage. Dale considered that he and Larue were "Lovers Forever". Retired from the U.S. Army as Lt. Colonel. Retired as an Engineer for Mtn. Fuel/Questar Gas. A voracious reader, he memorized almost all he read, exhausting all subjects. He and Larue traveled all over the U.S. by car and did their best to golf in almost every state. Golfing, athletics, and sports came easy for him. Dale was a self taught Astronomer. He catalogued the skies and created a revolving chart to show the stars at certain times of night and year. It was magic watching Dale and Larue dance. Music was always a part of Dale Ansell's life. If he wasn't humming some tune, then the stereo was playing or Larue was playing the piano and he was singing along. He had an extremely high I.Q., a brilliant man, however, you felt as if what you were saying was the most important thing to him. He loved his in-law's as if they were his own Sisters and /or Brothers. He loved his Nieces and Nephews as if they were his own children. He was caring, interesting, adventurous, gallant, loving, giving, patient and a Gentleman through and through. He worked hard all his life. He could build and repair almost anything. He lost his Parents, his beautiful Larue, his wonderful son Dee, his Sister Coralee, and his brother Harold before him. It broke his heart, yet he still continued to find beauty in all around him. Dale leaves behind so many, his Grandsons Colter and Jesse Ansell of Cave Creek, Arizona, Austin Ansell of West Jordan, Utah, Kim Ansell of Ansell Ranch in Old Pahreah Area, Kane County, Utah. Dale W. Ansell will be sorely missed by so many people in which it is impossible to list all here; as you read this you know who you are. There will be a ceremony Saturday, December 17, at 11:00 am at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City. A tribute will be given to Dale conducted by the U.S. Army sometime between 11:00 and 11:30 am. Dale and his Niece Julie Murphy were in the midst of cataloguing and working on his memoirs of his life. Dale and his adopted daughter Kim Ansell were in the midst of completing his World War II memoirs. Copies will be made after completion for those who are interested. Here's to you Dale W. Ansell, a great Dad, man, friend, father, husband, uncle, brother, and neighbor who will be in our thoughts forever. Jerald Hayden "Jerry" Merrill died at age 80 in Salt Lake City on December 10, 2005. The son of Glenn William Merrill of Preston, Idaho and Edna Lee Hayden of Salt Lake City, he was born in Rigby, Idaho on December 30, 1924. Glenn taught mathematics and social studies and coached athletics in rural high schools in Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah. He concluded this career in Moab to enter government service, mainly in Dayton, Ohio. Edna pursued careers as a dress designer in Logan and, later, as legal secretary in Salt Lake City. Both are deceased. Following three years of service in the Air Force during the Second World War as navigator, Jerry completed chemical engineering studies at the University of Utah in 1948. He was employed by Shell Oil Company in the San Francisco bay area for three years, resigning to attend St. Patrick's Seminary, Menlo Park, California. After completing studies in 1958, he was ordained a priest in the Roman Catholic diocese of Salt Lake City at the Cathedral of the Madeleine by the Most Rev. Joseph Lennox Federal, Bishop. He served the Catholic people of Salt Lake City for the next 23 years, teaching science at Judge Memorial Catholic High School and providing pastoral care to the people of Guadalupe Mission, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, and the Cathedral of the Madeleine. During these years, he developed friendships with students and parishioners that would last all his life and be a great source of joy. Jerry was best known as an organizer of projects. Three programs that he started in the '60s survive him: Guadalupe Schools, now a pre-school through 3rd grade program for children with language and learning deficits, and an evening tutoring program for adults learning English as a second language; Utah Nonprofit Housing Corporation, a sponsor and developer of affordable multi-family housing, which, after 38 years, offers nearly 16,000 rental units to low income families and elderly and disabled people; Catholic Community Credit Union, continuing many years of credit service and counseling. One of the several projects which has not continued is the Guadalupe Center and its popular La Morena Cafe. This community center provided gathering space for Hispanic social action and the cafe offered jobs for employees and funds for projects. In 1982, Jerry resigned from his ministry in the Catholic Church. He never stated publicly his reasons for this decision. Later that year he and Carole Migden Carlisle were married by the Rt. Rev. Wesley Frensdorff, Episcopal Bishop of Nevada. His marriage to Carole and the birth of their son Isaac Marcos "Marc", born the next year, were to bring great happiness to Jerry's life. After efforts to develop an insurance and securities sales business, Jerry was invited by the Rt. Rev. Otis Charles, then Bishop of Utah, who had received him into the Episcopal Church several years earlier, to consider serving as a priest in the Episcopal Church. After time for decision and preparation, Jerry was received as a priest in 1987 at the Cathedral Church of Saint Mark by Bishop Charles. Beginning his ministry to homeless men and women in Salt Lake City, Jerry and a small staff developed The Inn, a day center for the homeless where food, clothing, emergency housing, and information on jobs and housing were provided. These efforts, after a couple of years, grew into the Lotus Project, an employment and job training program. A word about the inner dynamic of this man: He came to realize something of God's immense love for him, as for each human being. Like the mystical bride of "The Song of Songs," Jerry lived the adventure of seeking God in moments of light, when he seemed near, and in life's darkness, when he seemed to have gone away, until that day when they would find each other forever, Jerry is survived by his wife Carole and their son Marc. He is also survived by a younger brother, Dix Glenn Merrill of Centerville and by Carole's elder son, Craig William Carlisle of St. Augustine, FL. Jerry's brother Karl Rowland Merrill and his wife Mary Sweeney Merrill both died in 1993 in Fort Worth, TX; Their five children are living: Kathie Hood, M.D. of Garland, Texas; Terry d'Agustino of Columbus, Oh; Carol Kirkpatrick of Fort Worth, TX; John Merrill of Euless, Texas; and James Merrill of Westerville, Oh.-JHM In a memorial service, the Eucharist of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ will be celebrated Friday, Dec. 16, 2005 at 12:00 Noon at the Cathedral Church of St. Mark, 231 East 100 South. Richardson, Elizabeth Noelle Elizabeth Noelle Richardson 1988 ~ 2005 Elizabeth Noelle Richardson, left this life during the same season she came, when we focus on the birth of our Savior. She was born on November 26, 1988 in Kirkland, Washington. She passed away peacefully at home on December 9, 2005, surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth was born missing most of the grey matter on her brain and with complicated orthopedic problems and was what most people would consider severely disabled. Yet she taught us so much! She taught us about love, strength, resilience and most especially that people with disabilities are not scary, but wonderful. Because of her influence, our family grew in amazing ways. Elizabeth never needed baptism in this life and we know she is now dancing and singing with the other angels in heaven. She loved the songs of the LDS church, especially "Families Can Be Together Forever". She was keenly sensitive to the Spirit and had a direct line to heaven. She was given a grim prognosis at birth and was not expected to live more than a few days, but gifted us with 17 wonderful years. She stayed with us through pain and difficulty over the last several years and has changed us all forever. How we will miss her! She is survived by her parents, Greg and Holly Richardson, brothers Aaron, Michael, Buzaneh, Ashenafe, Joshua, Halofom, Roman, Kerry, Tomas and Ammon and sisters Mira, Alina, Anna Long, Katie, Kristiana, Bethlehem, Rebecca, Rachel and Tereza, special friend Charlotte Deveraux and grandparents Randall and Evelyn Richardson (Smithville, Missouri) and Norman and Sallianne Tree (LDS Geneva, Switzerland mission). She was preceded in death by sisters Alexandra, Aimee, Jennifer, Maria and Tereza and by brothers Maxim, Alexander, and Nathaniel. Our thanks go out to all of her teachers, bus drivers and aides at Dan Peterson school for all the years of love and care shown to Lizzie and to Dr. Vaughn Johnson, for his care and support.
