She was born February 26, 1925, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ernest Albert Rhine Gray and Elizabeth Ross Smith. She married George Litnak on August 7, 1946, later divorced. She married LeRoy Thomas Baker on March 4, 1977. She worked at Sweet Candy Company for many years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dorothy is survived by her children, Larry Litnak, Laura Litnak, Lynn (Vicky Ellis) Litnak, Linda (Terry) Stewart; 9 grandchildren, one great-grandchild. Doyle, Zane Armond Zane Armond Doyle 1916 ~ 2005 Zane Armond Doyle passed away on December 11th in his home with his family around him. He was born on February 17, 1916 to Zephyr and Michael Doyle in Ogden, Utah. Zane was a devoted husband and father. He married Thelma the, love of his life on July 29th, 1937 in the Logan Temple, after courting her since the 6th grade. They worked together and enjoyed each other for their 52 years of marriage. Zane loved the outdoors; fly fishing and gardening were his specialties. Carving bears in his later life provided much enjoyment for himself and others, as well as many trips to the emergency room. Zane visited Brighton in the early 40's on a ski trip and he set out on a career that eventually led to the development of Brighton Ski Resort. Zane was one of the pioneers of the Utah Ski Industry and guided the development of Brighton Ski Resort from 1943 - 1987. He was inducted into the Intermountain Ski Hall of fame in 2002 and later received the SJ Quinney Award for contributions to skiing in the Intermountain West from the University of Utah J. Willard Marriot Library. Needless to say, Zane loved the mountains, his customers and his many employees. He always took pride in working in an industry that provided fun for people, and often said that if not for the help of his many friends he could not have made a go of it. He will be missed by those friends, both young and old who had the privilege of knowing this tough old mountain man. He is survived by two daughters CarolLynn (Don) Palmer and Nanette (Laury) Bullock, sons Michael (Jane), Randy (Debbie), sisters Donna McClain and Pat Burt, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, daughter Bonnie and brother Sherman and sister June. Zane often bragged about having a Jeanie and a Pixie! Egbert, Melva Faye Olson Melva Faye Olson Egbert 1/15/1940~12/13/2005 Our dearly loved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Melva Faye Olson Egbert, left us for greener fairways on December 13, 2005 after a valiant battle with complications resulting from lung transplant surgery. Melva was born on January 15, 1940 to Carl Bert Olson and Melva Fernelius Olson in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Darrell Louis Egbert on Sept. 15, 1960 in Elko, NV. Melva's greatest joys were times spent with her grandkids, her 'sisters', gambling in Wendover, playing golf, and hosting the family Fourth of July Party. She loved all of the holidays and cherished getting together with family every chance she could. To her children, Danny Egbert, Andy Egbert, Jill (Jeff) Knittle, her grandchildren Chase, Daryl and Carson, her brother Carl F. (Laine) Olson, her sister Majken ( Rex) Bood, her brothers and sisters in-law LaDene Reichert, Marilyn (Lynn) Strong, Don (Sue) Egbert, Pauline Lloyd, Karon (Leland) Sullivan, all of her nieces and nephews; her lunch and golfing buddies, and all of the friends she made throughout her rich and varied life, the world is now a lonelier place to be. She will be missed forever, but comfort is found knowing she's back with the love of her life, her late husband of 42 years, Darrell Louis Egbert. GEORGE, UTAH - Ronald James, 80, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Dixie Regional Medical Center due to complications of an illness. He was born January 5, 1925 in Marysvale, Utah, to Garfield (Grompie) and Lucy (Mamo) James. Ron served in the U.S. Navy as an amphibious landing craft driver in nine invasions during World War II. He married Georgia Marie Busco, and she preceded him in death on May 22, 1996. Together they had four children: Stephanie, Greg, Gary and Ronee. Through his illness, dad always made light of the situation. He could make you smile and laugh, no matter how much he was suffering. Always dedicated to his children, family and friends, dad put everyone else first. His sense of humor was like no other. A heart of gold is what he had; the same heart that we now will carry within us. A man can never be forgotten that was loved so much - that is our dad! He loved the outdoors, riding his four wheeler and spending time in Marysvale during the summer months with Colleen. Dad, thank you for being the greatest man we will ever know. You are an amazing partner, brother, father, grandpa and friend. We thank you for all the wonderful memories you have left us. We love you with all of our hearts and we are going to miss you very much. Rest in peace. He was born on July 20, 1953 to Harold M. and Faye W. Jensen in Logan, Utah. Bruce graduated from Logan High School in 1971. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Korea from 1972 to 1974. He was a loyal Aggie and active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity while attending Utah State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1976. He graduated from the J. Reuben Clark School of Law in 1979. After completing his legal education and being admitted to the Utah State Bar, Bruce joined the firm of Snow, Christensen & Martineau in Salt Lake City where he eventually focused his law practice on the representation of healthcare professionals in medical malpractice cases. In 1991, he was a founding member of the firm of Williams & Hunt where he continued his law practice until his death. Bruce was the consummate professional, meticulous and thorough in his preparation; articulate and persuasive in both written and oral presentations; sharing generously of his talents and experience as a mentor to younger lawyers; and, perhaps most impressively, a model of civility, treating everyone he encountered with dignity and respect. He was fittingly recognized by his peers as one of the best lawyers in America. Among his many interests and reflective of his passion for life, Bruce was an avid golfer, honing his youthful skills at the Logan Golf & Country Club, representing both Logan High School and Utah State University on their respective golf teams and continuing his love for the sport more recently as a member of the Willow Creek Country Club, serving as a board member and president. Bruce is survived by his mother Faye W. Jensen, his brother S. Wayne Jensen, D.D.S., sister-in-law Laurel G. Johnson, Robert Douglas Robert Douglas Johnson 1913 ~ 2005 I was born May 16, 1913 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Richard Monroe Johnson and Teresa Marie Skidmore. My ancestors were all Utah pioneers. My two grandmothers came with the Martin and Robinson handcart companies. Died December 9, 2005 of causes incident to age. I lived my entire life in the Salt Lake City area, moving to Holladay, Utah in 1965 and then to Bountiful, Utah in 2003 to be near my daughter and her family. I attended local schools, LDS High School, and graduated from LDS Business College in 1932. After graduating from school I met the love of my life, Lillian Sedgeley. We were married in the Salt Lake Temple August 1, 1936. I worked for several companies, joining U.S. Steel Corp. in 1946. I worked there for 31 years as a Sales Representative, retiring in 1977. I am survived by two beautiful daughters, Kathleen (Ronald) Hardy, Bountiful, Utah and Elizabeth (Scott) Terry, Tempe, Arizona. Preceded in death by my loving wife, Lillian; an infant son, Robert William; a brother, Raymond; and a sister, Mae Williams. I have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. I am an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have served in many church positions in the priesthood, Sunday School, MIA, and bishoprics. May) passed away at her home Tuesday, December 13, 2005. Kay was born Feb. 4, 1923 in Salt Lake City to George and Josephine Goff. Kay grew up in the Sugarhouse area and graduated from South High School. Kay and her husband Frank May fell in love while dancing at the Rainbow Rendezvous in Salt Lake and were married March 10, 1944. The love of Kay's life is her family. Kay and Frank raised their family in Bountiful. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank May, her parents and five brothers and sisters. Kay is survived by five children, John and his wife Shawna May, Marsha Jones, Bob and his wife Julie May, Marilyn Montgomery, and Paul and his wife Heather May. She has 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Kay loved life and enjoyed every day. She owned and operated Kay's Floral and Kay's Katering in Bountiful and enjoyed the many hours spent on the catering jobs with her dear friends. She shared her artistic talent and love of flowers with everyone she met. Kay spent the day before she passed away in her floral shop doing what she loved. Although Kay needed to use a wheelchair the last few years, she was an avid baseball fan and one goal in her life was to visit all the major league baseball parks. She made it to all but a handful and was a veteran of four World Series. Kay loved to travel and her most recent venture was a Caribbean Cruise with her family. McMillin, Ed Ed McMillin 1931~2005 Ed passed away suddenly on December 14 at University Hospital with his family at his side. He was born on January 17, 1931 in Whittier, California to Dorothy and Homer McMillin. He married Tillie Davis on August 13, 1949 in Tooele, Utah. They were the parents of two children. He worked for Cobalt where he took a course in electronics. He then worked for several electrical engineering firms and owned his own business. He later joined Bechtel Engineering and spent ten years working in the Middle East. During this time he would meet Tillie in different locations around the world every six months for an R&R. He retired at 59 and spent the rest of his life working on his home projects and going to their mountain property. He also enjoyed traveling and seeing the country. Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years, his children Connie (Dee) Nash, and Bruce (Debby) McMillin, grandchildren Shane, Veronica, Rochelle, Brandon, Valerie, Richard, Chevis, Shara, and 13 great-grandchildren. Mixco, Gladys Inez Gladys Inez Mixco 11/16/29 ~ 12/13/05 Gladys Inez Mixco, age 76, of Salt Lake City, died December 13, 2005 in her home surrounded by her family, after a long struggle with MS. She was born November 16, 1929 in San Salvador, El Salvador (Central America) to Jos Mauricio Mixco and Olympia Concepci›n Venegas. She went to school at Betania (Bethany) Preparatory School for Girls in Santa Tecla, El Salvador and later entered the order of the sisters of Bethany. As Sr. Mary of the Assumption, she worked with Catholic Charities in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara where she learned English and how to drive. She left the order in 1957 and married Eligio S. Gallegos of Los Lunas, New Mexico in 1959 and divorced in the late 1960s. She resided in Macon, Georgia and Tallahassee, Florida, where she worked at Florida State University. In 1977, she moved to Salt Lake City to be near her family where she has since resided. She is a member of the Mujeres Latinas Association. She worked at the University of Utah in the Ethnic Studies Program as an Administrative Assistant until her retirement in May 2003. She was the recipient of many awards and recognitions, among them, the 2005 University of Utah Diversity Award and in 2004 the Presidential Staff Award. She was a long-time supporter of the University of Utah Chicano Scholarship Fund and was later recognized for her years of service at the 2005 Chicano Scholarship Banquet. Gladys enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, cooking and dining, Latin dancing and she was a gifted artist. She was also an life-long member of the Roman Catholic Church. Gladys is preceded in death by her older sister, Teresa Olympia, and both her parents. She is survived by her brother, Prof. Mauricio J. Mixco (M. Teresa), of the University of Utah and nine half siblings all residing in El Salvador. She is also survived by Jos Roberto Castellanos (Marta Evelyn), orphan son of her elder sister Olympia, who she finished raising. He now resides in Northern California. She is also survived by her remaining nephews and nieces, Manuel Jacinto (Lori) who reside in Northern California; Teresa Olympia Castellanos de Rivera (Manuel) who reside in El Salvador; Ren e Marguerite (Sirius) of Salt Lake City; Joaqu­n Mauricio (Erika) who lived with her and took care of her through out her illness, and Javier Marcelo who is finishing medical school at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. She is also survived by 13 grand nephews and nieces who all shared a very special and loving, grandmotherly relationship with her as well six great grand nieces and nephews. Parry, George Franklin George Franklin Parry 1923 ~ 2005 George Franklin Parry, 82, of Grants Pass, Oregon, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Three Rivers Community Hospital. Parry was born April 12, 1923 in Garfield, Utah, and grew up in Herriman, Utah. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. On June 19, 1945, he married Joy Thompson, who survives, at the Salt Lake Temple. He moved from Southern California to Grants Pass. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Merlin Ward, and served as patriarch emeritus of the Grants Pass Stake. George also was a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, Disabled American Veterans and the Gem and Mineral Society. He was a member of a Monday afternoon study group with friends from his church and belonged to a Vitality Center dancing group. He was a rock-hound and lapidarist. In addition to his wife, Joy, he is survived by brothers, Everett T. Parry, Herriman; and Arnold K. Parry, Kearns, Utah; and many nieces and nephews. Peirce, Lydia Stevens Lydia Stevens Peirce Beloved Mother Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Lydia Stevens Peirce, passed quietly away on December 13, 2005 just short of her 100th birthday. She was born in Raymond, Alberta, Canada on January 22, 1906, the third child of seven born to David Felshaw and Clara Partridge Stevens. Lydia taught school before her marriage to Earle W. Peirce. After his death in 1958, Lydia worked as a secretary to the President of the University of Utah for several years. Lydia loved the Lord and lived her life predicated upon her strong belief and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She held many church callings throughout her life and leaves a wonderful legacy of service, love, and enduring to the end. She was always gracious and compassionate to others. Because of her generous spirit she helped many, including her grandchildren on their missions and other activities. She loved the beauties in nature, especially the flowers of springtime and the red cardinal. Lydia also loved music, especially when performed by her children and grandchildren. Lydia found joy in reading, traveling, and learning about the world and its various lands and cultures. Lydia's family was her most priceless treasure. Her greatest blessings in life were being a wife, a mother, a grandmother of 17, a great-grandmother of 55, and a great-great-grandmother of two. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earle (47 years ago), her 18 year-old daughter, Lynda (47 years ago), two grandsons, Steven Peirce and Gregory King, one great-grandson, Cyrus King, and four brothers and a sister. She is survived by three children, Marillyn King (Dick) Christensen, Earle (JoAnn) Peirce, and LuRae (Robert) Foster. She is also survived by her sister, Edna Gray. Poulsen, David James David James Poulsen 1956 ~ 2005 David James Poulsen crossed over on the morning of December 13, 2005. Born June 20, 1956 to John and Emogene Ames Poulsen. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church. David worked as a superintendent at DAW Construction for over 30 years. He was a perfectionist at everything he did, just like his dad, John, whom he loved and respected so much. He was admired by all his associates for his intelligence and skills. He loved his family more than anything. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and his little dog, Pooker, and surprising the love of his life with yellow roses. David is survived by the love of his life and soul mate, Deonne Peterson; his father and stepmother, John and Shauna Poulsen; his father and mother-in-law, Garth and Lois Peterson; seven sisters, six brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews. Sampson, Doyle Doyle Sampson 1920 ~ 2005 St. George/Ivins, Utah - Doyle Sampson, age 85, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at his home in Kayenta, Ivins, Utah. He was born September 15, 1920, in Delta, Utah. After completing high school, he was recruited by Lee Hafen to come to Dixie Jr. College. He attended Dixie for one and a half years before leaving with the National Guard in 1941. He was with the 115th Engineers Corp, stationed in England, and went into France on Utah Beach when the invasion of Europe took place. Doyle was honorably discharged from active duty in October of 1945. He then returned to Dixie where he graduated in June of 1946. Doyle married Edna Mae Miller in 1946, and they moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, where Doyle received his Bachelors Degree. He coached high school basketball and football in Hobbs, New Mexico, for three years before returning to Dixie. At that time he went into private business. He owned and managed a shoe store and The Dairy Freeze. In 1954, Dixie College was without a basketball coach, so Doyle was recruited to coach college ball for a year. He owned and operated ERA Sampson and Company Real Estate with his son, Sam, for several years. In 1958, Doyle was President of the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce which, at the time, hired the first executive secretary. During 1963, Hawthorne Company, currently known as Dixie Development, was anticipating coming into this area. Doyle gave three months of his time, without compensation, to selling stock. This industry became a big asset to the economy of our community. Doyle was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the city for his help on this project and was most recently sitting on the board of directors. Doyle has been an active member of the Lions Club for 55 years, serving as President and District Governor. He served as chairman in rebuilding Roene Diflore's home after it was destroyed by fire. He was a charter member of the Colonels Club of Dixie College. He was part of a group that helped develop the City Center, Dixie Bowl, and Milne Jewelers. He also helped organize and sell stock in three banks, including: Enterprise Bank, Sun Capital Bank, and Sun First Bank. He most recently sat on the Board of Sun First Bank. His grateful family includes his: wife, Edna Mae; and sisters, Dorothy Webb, and Lila Mae Debenham. Surviving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren include: Sam and Lisa, Lindsay, Kimberly; Shannon and Kyle, Kayla, Claire, Ryan, Kate; Greg and Jeannie, Michael, Tanner, Taylor, Brooks; Eric and Niki, Shaly, Alex, Braden; Sam and Kali, Cole, Luke; Mary Lou, Kurtis, Wyatt; Sherrie, Matthew, Michael and Emily, Ryan, Madalene Rose, Jackson, Katherine Anne; Karl and Wendy, Henry. He was active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and most recently served as the High Priest Group Leader. He was quietly of service to his fellow man. Doyle enjoyed spending time at his cabin on Kolob Mountain. He was an avid hunter, golfer, and sandbagger. Schiess, Ronald George Ronald George Schiess 1932 ~ 2005 BLUFFDALE - Ron Schiess, 73, died on Dec. 13, 2005, after enduring a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on Feb. 6, 1932, in Santa Monica, CA to George C. Schiess and Florence Pearl Whitehead. As a young skinny boy, Ron learned to play the violin. He served an LDS mission in Germany from 1951 to 1953. After marrying Ruth Armstrong in 1954 in the Mesa Arizona Temple, they had five children while Ron worked in the insurance business. During this time, Ron also worked nights and attended UCLA Law School. Upon graduation in 1963, the family moved to Roseville, CA where Ron practiced law and two more children were added to the family. In 1975, the family moved to Salt Lake City where Ron again practiced law until he retired. Ron loved to be with his family, ski, fly fish and hike, and he loved working in the Jordan River Temple. Ron is survived by his wife, Ruth and seven children: Joseph Schiess, David Schiess (Karen), Daniel Schiess (Jill), Kathryn Bailey (Allan), Karen Lindsey, James Schiess (Teri) and Julie Walker (Dennis). She was born in Faero Island, Denmark August 13, 1913, later moved to Copenhagen, Denmark where she was converted to the LDS church by missionaries which changed her life forever. She married Villy Sorensen in 1956, and the same year immigrated to America. She was born October 5, 1934 in Murray, Utah to James (Jim) Smith and Mildred Butterfield. She attended school in Riverton, Utah Through the ninth grade and graduated from Jordan High School in 1952. Dorothy worked at Beneficial Life Insurance company before she moved to Arizona with her family in 1954. After moving to Mesa she was employed at Mesa Guarantee and Title. While in Mesa, she met and married Lee Wayne Webb on June 21, 1955. From their she moved back to Utah where she was employed by Butterfield Ford in Riverton. They later moved to Morgan, Utah where she worked at Pendleton's Country Store for many years. She enjoyed her family, her children and their activities. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions which she enjoyed. She is preceded in death by her parents and by her daughter, Donelle Webb Jensen. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 50 years, Lee Wayne Webb; son James Webb, and daughters; Doralee Cederholm, Stacy Worden, Wylynn Misrasi and grandchildren; Mindy Opheikens, Kayla Misrasi, Sabrina Misrasi, Alesha Worden, Amanda Worden, Katrina Jensen, Teresa Jensen, Joshua Jensen and her great-grandchildren Conan Opheikens and Trinity Nutt. Dusty had a strong spirit and lived life to the fullest. He had many friends and was liked by everyone. He was smart, fearless, brave, mischievous, and a true charmer. He had a great love for the outdoors including: snowboarding, boating, four wheeling and anything challenging and adventurous. Dusty loved being around family and friends, you always felt comfortable around him and he always made you feel welcome. He loved children, and children were always drawn to him, especially his niece and nephew Madilyn and Caleb. Dusty had a special bond with his mother; Dusty always said that his mom was his best friend. He also had a special relationship with his father; they could always take something apart and make it faster or better. Dusty loved his two older brothers Chris and Josh. He looked up to them so much and they will never forget all of the fun and outrageous times they had at Lake Powell, he was their "Great Guinea Pig". Dusty was always the life of the party; everyone was drawn to his crazy personality and mischievous smile. We will miss his sarcasm, enthusiastic, fun loving, energetic, friendly, courageous personality. Whitelock, JoEllen Shiozawa JoEllen Shiozawa Whitelock 1946 ~ 2005 Our beloved daughter, mother, and grandmother JoEllen Shiozawa Whitelock, 59, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on December 13, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. JoEllen was born on June 11, 1946 to George and May Shiozawa in Pocatello, Idaho. While attending Brigham Young University, she met and married Mac Arthur Whitelock in the Salt Lake Temple. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.A. in art. They were blessed with two daughters, Cori Kato and Alexandra Peterson. They lived in Japan for several years where she taught English at a women's college and also owned an antique store. JoEllen and Mac Arthur later owned Main Street Antiques in Payson, Utah for 15 years. She was very active in her community and served as a city council woman. In 1994 she divorced and moved to Provo, Utah where she managed the Flower Basket. She devoted her life to her family, friends, and church. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved serving in the primary, young women and relief society. JoEllen will be remembered for her unconditional love, service, and great advice. We loved her gourmet cooking, beautiful flowers, and ability to shop. She lived each day to its fullest and never took anything for granted. She had a great sense of humor, even to the end. All those who knew her will remember her kindness and compassion. JoEllen's greatest joy in life was her four grandchildren Aaron, Madeline, Jocelyn and Cameron. She had a special gift of making each child feel like they were the most loved. We love you so much and will miss you more than anything. We were so blessed to have you in our lives. You truly are an inspiration of faith, love and courage. Karleen was born June 14, 1926 to Leland Mann Argyle and Columbia Loveland in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is the oldest of four daughters. She spent a happy childhood in West Bountiful. She graduated from Davis High. She worked at Farmer's State Bank before her marriage. She is a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held various positions of service in the church and served a mission to the Hawaiian Islands with her husband. Karleen married Richard T. Winegar on June 19, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Karleen and Dick spent their lives in the grocery business. She founded Karleen's Bridal Gift Shop in Centerville, Ut. Karleen enjoyed her family the most. Her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren held the most prominent position in her heart and she lived a life totally devoted to them. Karleen's hobbies were painting, sewing, reading, golfing, traveling, and cooking. She loved people and was a friend to all. Dick and Karleen had a marriage that could best be described as one of unwavering devotion to one another. They were most often seen together, sharing in all of life's experiences. She loved and touched many in her life. We were blessed by her faith, optimism, determination, and unconditional love.
