Beal, Boyd Henry In MemoriamBoyd HenryBeal 9/26/1941 ~ 1/3/2004 We respected your wishes not to have an obituary. I need to say Good-Bye. Boyd was the man next to you in the grocery line talking about the weather. He was the man that visited every pawn shop around. He was the guy that overpaid his bills. He loved to buy on the internet. He would do taxes and say pay what you can. But most of all Boyd was that amazing man that took in his three year old grandson. He gave him the love a father would give a son. He was a fountain of knowledge and shared that with our new family member. That child is now seven. Your desire for him to have your name has happened. There isn't a day that goes by that you aren't in his thoughts. When a flock of geese fly over he yells Hi Grandpa . He then looks at me and says Don't cry . I can only cry when he is asleep. So in the still of the night as I lie in our bed the memories flood my mind and that is what I do. I pray this year will give us the time to grieve and allow us some peace. We miss you. Rest in peace our beloved husband and grandpa. Thank you, Gerald Conder. You have helped us accomplish so much this past year. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune on 1/2/2005. Fitches, Janet Louise (Taylor) Janet Louise (Taylor) Fitches In Loving Memory and Sorrow Janet L. Fitches, 72, passed away at home, with a staff infection early in the morning on Christmas Day, December 25, 2004. Her wishes were for her family to fight for her life, which we did until the very end, with a lot of opposition. Where there is life, there is hope. She passed away seven months after finding out she had a brain mass, which the family believes was caused from years of having Sjogren's Disease, which attacks saliva glands and tissue in the body, including brain tissue. Sjogren's Disease is considered to be a form of cancer in some recent information regarding the disease. Janet F. Fitches was a very intelligent, intuitive, and giving woman. Her memory was exceptional. She was also witty, with a wonderful and unusual sense of humor. She was a problem solver when someone needed help and/or guidance. She always put the needs of others before herself, even after she became ill. She had a strong faith in God and believed in miracles, because God blessed her with a miracle 52 years prior. At age 20, while she was seven months pregnant with her son Mark, she had a massive cerebral hemorrhage. She was in a coma for two weeks, and in the hospital for two months and nine days. Her faith, strength, and determination are the reasons why she was able to overcome her adversities, learned to walk all over again with a wooden kitchen chair, and lived almost 52 years without many problems, until recently. She never talked about it with those outside of the family until she became older, because she did not want any obstacles or pity, and felt blessed that God gave her a second chance. When she would here the words Quality of Life, it would upset her, because this thought process came from Hitler. She always told her family ALL LIFE IS QUALITY OF LIFE; Where there is life there is always hope; and If you are alive, you are going to have some pain. Everyone's life was precious to her, including her own. Her family fought for her life, just as she asked, hoping for another miracle, and God gave us one last request, but not the miracle we were hoping for. We asked for at least one more Christmas, and he gave us one hour here, and the rest in heaven. Her father also died early on Christmas morning many years' prior, and he came to get her to spend the rest of Christmas with him. Janet was born June 13, 1932, in Los Angeles, CA. She was raised in a house on the beach with her father, mother, and two older brothers. In High School, she played the drums in the Englewood High School Band and Orchestra. She had a great love for a wide variety of music. She also enjoyed dancing, and took tap dancing for several years. She also was a nanny her last year of high school. She also played tennis and was very active. She met Gerald E. Fitches, her lifetime husband at a dance. He also grew up taking tap dancing, and they enjoyed dancing together. They were married on September 6, 1952, baptized into the LDS Church on July 31, 1954, and later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 27, 1955. She was raised Baptist. Growing up she had a wide variety of friends. She looked at the spirit and the soul of a person, and did not go by race or denomination, but how the person thought. She appreciated all good people, and was a great example for her family. They lived in California for six years, and moved to the state of Utah, where her husband was born and raised, when their daughter Gail was one month old. After living in Los Angeles, it was a big adjustment the first few years, moving to a place where there was snow and the only things to do were to go to the local drug stores or grocery store, but she came to appreciate her life here and town grew. Janet was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a natural leader with great love and compassion. All those who loved and knew her truly will miss her. She is survived by Gerald E. Fitches (husband), Mark Alan Fitches (son), Gail Lynn Fitches (daughter), Jared Paul Fitches (grandson), Angela Leilani (Fitches) Lopez (granddaughter), Michael David Fitches (grandson), great-grandchildren: Ashley Pacheco, Vinney Pacheco, Antonio Torres, and Rita Marie Torres. Preceded in death by: Donald Charles Taylor (father), Maybelle Luella Maude (Barnes) Taylor (Mother), and brothers Robert Charles Taylor and Donald Edward Taylor. Hill A Legacy of Optimism and Strength Louise Isabelle (Matthies) Hill died of natural causes December 29, 2004 in Salt Lake City. Her remarkable life was an example of faith, strength, endurance, beauty and patriotism. She blessed the lives of her family and friends for almost 93 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dexter C. Hilll; as well as her two brothers Charles and Ken Matthies. She is survived by her son, Keith Hill, who was the light of her life; her daughter-in-law, Kristin (Nelson) Hill whom she treated as a daughter and a friend from the first meeting; and by Erick Hill, her cherished grandson. Louise also leaves her two extended families the Hills (Texas) and the Nelsons, (California) with whom she spent many wonderful, loving, happy times. She was born January 23, 1912 in Salt Lake City to John Matthies and Nellie Brewster Matthies, German and English immigrants. Although she traveled throughout the county, Utah was always first in her heart. She shared priceless memories of her childhood and youth with her family. She watched her father drive one of the first street cars in the city. She skated on the Liberty Park pond at Christmas time. She picked flowers and sold bouquets to her neighbors on Redondo Avenue. And one of her favorite memories was the smell of the cake her mother would bake every Saturday, for Sunday dinner which followed church. Louise's life changed forever the night she met Dex, a handsome young enlisted man from Texas. Their love affair lasted for more than 60 years. She was a model military wife and mother, moving her family across the county seven times and raising her son alone when her husband served his country on three separate tours of duty to Japan. She was a friend and hostess to hundreds of displaced service personnel. When a life passes that was well lived, it is difficult to find the right words. This was a woman who truly knew who she was. She leaves her family lessons of courage, as well as the importance of facing challenge with optimism, and meeting life head-on with humor and grace. Perhaps there is no better legacy for anyone. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 4th at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Drive at 11 a.m. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Air Force Enlisted Widows Foundation, 92 Sunset Lane, Shalimar, Florida 32579-1000. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune on 1/2/2005. Imhoff, James Cecil James Cecil Imhoff 1933 ~ 2004 OGDEN James Cecil Imhoff, 71, died Thurs., Dec 23, 2004 at the home of his son. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and although this disease may have invaded his body, it never was able to invade his soul. Jim was born in Ontario, Oregon on August 29, 1933, a son of Belmont C. Imhoff and Angela Mesee Imhoff. He grew up the son of railroad man and went on to become one himself. He was educated in Salt Lake City, graduated from East High School in 1951, and earned an Associate Degree from Stevens Henager College in 1953. Jim enlisted in the Army Airborne during the Korean War and served his country for four years. The fact that he was a "paratrooper" still delights his grandkids. In 1957, Jim was active in the Scanlon Club, a social club for single Catholics. There he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Vogelsang. They were married six months later on August 10th at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. During his lifetime, Jim worked hard, loved to play and spent countless hours helping other people. He was an active member of Holy Family Parish and loved singing in the choir. Jim loved all sports, hunting, traveling and fishing; his grandson, Beau, enjoyed his summer fishing trips with his grandpa. He so enjoyed his golf and poker outings with his best friends. Most of all, our dad loved people. His sense of humor was contagious and his good nature was heartwarming. He loved his children and took loving care of his grandchildren. Jim's family would like to thank all the caregivers at Ogden Regional for the countless hours of care they bestowed upon him. We would also like to express our gratitude to LifePath Hospice for their care and devotion during our dad's last week. He left this world on his terms and with such peace and dignity. Jim's children mostly want to thank the friends of their parents. Those that they have known from Salt Lake to Ogden and around the globe, have offered so much support and love during the most difficult of times. Their dear friends in Ogden and the members of Holy Family Parish will forever be in our hearts and we will always cherish the love you have bestowed upon our parents.
