Adams, June Kimball
June Kimball Adams 1918 ~ 2005 June Fern Kimball Adams, age 86, passed away on
January 9, 2005 at her home on 810 East Deerfield, Murray, UT, in the arms of
her family. Born June 18, 1918 in Magna, Utah to Ernest Lynn Kimball and Mary
Fern Cluff. Married Loraine Seegmiller Adams, a Flight Commander in the United
States Navy on January 14, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. Survived by her
eldest son and daughter, John A. Adams and Lorilyn Long Harrington, 12
grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her son,
Jeffrey Kimball Adams and her daughter, Teresa Adams. Funeral services will be
held at 12:00 noon, Saturday January 15, in the Murray Little Cottonwood 12th
Ward in the Murray Little Cottonwood Stake, 6180 Glenoaks Street (852 East),
Murray, Utah. Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
prior to services. Interment will be at the Larkin Sunset Gardens. Please send

Alishan, Leonardo Paul
Leonardo Paul Alishan "Nardo" Accomplished former University of Utah professor
and poet, Leonardo Paul Alishan, 53, passed away on January 9, 2005 as a
result of a horrific house fire. Nardo was born on March 4, 1951 in Tehran,
Iran to Armenian parents, Michael and Annette. He married Nelli Assadurain on
July 19, 1974 but was later divorced in 1993. Three wonderful children was the
result of their union, Michael, Ara, and Eileen. Nardo immigrated to the
United States in 1973 and received his doctorate degree in 1978 in comparative
literature from the University of Texas at Austin. He moved to Utah and joined
the University of Utah's Middle Eastern Studies' department in the same year.
Nardo enjoyed teaching and spending time with his students, which were his
biggest source of inspiration. He left an everlasting impression on everyone
who came in contact with him, and made their lives richer and more meaningful.
His student's admired his knowledge, candidness, humbleness, and warm
personality, and rewarded him twice with voting him the most distinguished
professor at the University. He also received a faculty fellow award from the
University of Utah for the 1994-1995 school year. Nardo was an accomplished
researcher and poet, which received numerous awards for his literary body of
work. His love for literature benefited Iranian, Armenian, and English
literary communities in different capacities. He authored several articles and
papers covering traditional and modern Iranian poets and writers, while
becoming one of the top authorities in the world on "David of Sassoun", the
Armenian national epic. He was especially proud of his two published poetry
books "Dancing Barefoot on Broken Glass", and "Through a Dewdrop". Nardo's
legacy lives in his oldest son Michael, which has inherited his wonderful
personality, in Ara, whom has inherited his gentle soul and artistic
inclinations, and in his youngest child, Eileen, his ultimate love, which
completes the circle. His legacy will always be alive in every student and
individual which came to know this wonderful mind and exceptional literary
genius. He is survived by his children, Michael, Ara, Eileen; wife, Nelli;
Nephew, Damion. Preceded in death by father, Michael; mother, Annette;
brother, Sako. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005, at
11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 E. Creek Road. A memorial
will follow at 1 p.m. at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, 5325 South
Highland Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Asian
Tsunami victims in care of Red Cross, P.O. Box 38436, SLC, UT 84110.

Andersen, Thelma Jensen
Thelma Jensen Andersen 1915 ~ 2005 SANDY - Thelma Jensen Andersen, age 89,
died January 10, 2005 at Sandy Regional Care Center in Sandy, Utah. She was
born April 19, 1915 in Brigham City, Utah, a daughter of William B. and Isabel
Forrest Jensen. On May 7, 1934 she married Enoch Andersen in Farmington, Utah.
Thelma started work late in life as a Salad Specialist at the Hotel Utah; and
later at Sperry's, New House Care, Utah Power & Light and various other
places. She last worked at the Neighborhood House. After retirement she just
stayed at home and enjoyed doing her thing. She was a member of the LDS
Church. She is survived by her two sons, Gary Enoch (Doris), William "a.k.a.
Red" (Lynda); nine grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and four great
great-grandchildren; also two half sisters and a half brother, Alice (Dan)
Bird, Sharon Duram, Curtis Dan (Pat) Jensen. She is preceded in death by her
husband; parents; seven brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held
Friday, January 14, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State
where friends may call Friday one hour prior to services. Interment, Redwood
Memorial Estates.

Arnold, Yvonne Marie
Yvonne Marie Arnold 1949 ~ 2005 Yvonne Marie Arnold, age 55, returned home
January 8, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Yvonne was born May 27, 1949 in
Princeton, Indiana to James and Juanita Arnold. She graduated from Pomona High
School and Mt. San Antonio Jr. College with a degree in Police Science. Yvonne
was a valiant member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She
loved taking her grandkids to church and loved the temple, she also enjoyed
family outings. Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Liza Smith and fianc 
Eddie Nunn; son-in-law, Earl Smith; parents, James and Juanita Arnold;
brother, Robert Arnold and grandchildren, Desmond, Autumn, Dominic, Kiosha,
Tr  and one on the way. She is preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy David
and her precious grandson, Darius Joseph (Buddha) Smith. Funeral Services will
be held at 12:00 noon Friday, January 14, 2005 at the Taylorsville South
Stake, 3495 West 4850 South. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park. Funeral

Bastian, Carl E.
Carl E. Bastian 1924 ~ 2005 Carl was born in Salina, Utah to Afflick and
Rosena Bastian on December 22, 1924. He passed away peacefully at home with
his family on January 10, 2005. He graduated from North Sevier High School and
joined the United States Air Force where he served for three and a half years
during World War II. He moved to Salt Lake City and met his future wife
Beverly Olsen. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by Harold B. Lee
on May 1, 1947. They were loving partners for 57 years. Carl enjoyed
electronics and was employed by O'Loughlins Radio Supply until retirement.
Carl enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his family and friends. He is
survived by his wife Beverly; children and grandchildren, David (Caressa and
Chace), Denise and Bob Mugleston (Bobby, Tennille, Dominae, and Whitney),
DeLyn and Bruce Haaga (Bryson, Darchelle, Cherelle, Traven, and Ashlynne);
five great-grandchildren Jerynn, Gage, Christopher, Devante', and Tyce; and
his brother Arno and LaJuana. Preceded in death by his parents, a special aunt
Vi, and one grandson Jeryn. Funeral services will be held Friday January 14,
2005 at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 So. at 11:00 am. Family and
friends may call Thursday 6:30-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on
Friday. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Lewis and Nurse Julie at Salt Lake
Clinic, Highland Care Center staff, and especially Heidi, Debbie, Mike and
Carol with Applegate Hospice for their loving and tender care.

Bell, James Reed
J. Reed Bell 1916 ~ 2005 James Reed Bell, 88, passed away peacefully at home
with his family by his side. He was born June 30, 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah
to Charles and Mary Shurtleff Bell. Married Margaret Temby, Dec. 2, 1936 in
Heber City, Utah; she died October 21, 1982. Married Mary Zumbrunnen February
14, 1984 in West Valley City, Utah. Reed served in the US Navy and the
Merchant Marine during World War II. He retired from Kennecott Copper as an
electrician and was a member of the IBEW. He taught at Salt Lake Community
College for many years, and truly enjoyed traveling. Survived by his wife,
Mary; son, Jim (Mariam) Bell; stepson, David Milne; grandchildren, Shane
(Carrie) Bell, Darin (Jodie) Bell, and Blake (Terry) Gardner; and eight great
grandchildren. Preceded in death by 1st wife, Margaret; six brothers and
sisters. Graveside services will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2005 at
the Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 W. 4100 S. Friends may call Friday 6-8
p.m. and Saturday 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West 2700
South, Magna.

Black, Helen Shirley
Helen Shirley Black We'll miss you Our precious wife, mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother and friend passed away January 11, 2005 surrounded by her
family who loved her. She was born October 14, 1923 in Milford, Utah to John
Alexander and Mary Ellen Frazer, the youngest of 12 children. She married her
sweetheart, Wilford "Rex" Black on May 16, 1942; later solemnized in the Salt
Lake Temple. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. Helen was a mother to everyone and loved children. She was
an excellent homemaker and a friend to everyone. Helen is survived by her
loving husband; children, Susan (Richard) Blackwell, Jan (Colby) Rytting,
Cindy (Richard) Fowler, Joy (Scott) Miller, Peggy (Frank) Shay, Vanna (Craig)
Roberts, Gayle Kilgrow and Mike, Rex (Adrian) Black; 34 grandchildren and 31
great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters;
and great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 14th,
11:00 a.m. at the Rose Park 10th Ward, 760 N. 1200 W. A viewing will be held
Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood
Rd, and from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. The family would
like to thank the Harmony Hospice and Garden Terrace staffs for the loving
care they gave to Helen.

Boswell, Effie L.
Effie L. Boswell 1926 ~ 2005 OGDEN - Effie Laurine Watson Boswell, 78, died
peacefully on Monday, January 10, 2005 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born September 28, 1926 in Park City, a daughter of Ollie and Lillian
Brennan Watson. She was raised and educated in Park City and a graduate of
Park City High School Class of 1944. On March 16, 1946, Effie married Herbert
LeRoy Boswell in Ogden. Herbert preceded her in death on May 27, 1993.
Surviving are four children: Dennis L. (Kris) Boswell, Peronia, AZ; Cheri L.
Hart, Ogden; Kevin L. (Dixie) Boswell, Ogden; Bradley L. (Caron) Boswell,
Riverdale; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in
death were her husband, parents, one sister and three brothers. Funeral
services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408
Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
and Saturday 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment, Lindquist's Washington

Boulard, Jan Walton
Jan Walton Boulard 1978 ~ 2005 Our loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and
friend, Jan Boulard, age 26 passed away January 10, 2005 after a long
courageous battle with Cancer. Born February 14, 1978, daughter of Bob Walton
and Joy Blanton. Married Nicholas Levi Boulard, Aug. 4, 2001 in Grantsville.
She lived all her life in Grantsville and enjoyed her lifelong friends here.
She is survived by her husband, Nick and her cherished child Jake Levi,
sister, Michelle (Max) Hunt, brothers, Ed Walton and Graham MacDonald, her
grandfather Jay Hicks and special niece Amanda Hunt, many aunts, uncles and
cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at 11:00
a.m. at the Willow LDS Ward 410 E. Shelley Lane where friends may call from
9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment in the Grantsville City
Cemetery.

Brown, John Peter
John Peter Brown 1917 ~ 2005 John Peter Brown passed away peacefully from
natural causes Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at the age of 87 years. He was born
April 20, 1917 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Peter Andrew and Chryso Keketis
Brown. John was raised in Bingham and Copperton, Utah. He married Gladys
Pumphrey Moore, May 14, 1951, whose husband had died as a result of an
automobile accident on September 14, 1945. Gladys passed away on May 3, 2000.
John and Gladys had been married for 49 years at the time of her death. John
graduated from Bingham High School and went to work for Kennecott Copper
Corporation. He joined the Navy and served in World War II. After the war, he
returned to Kennecott. He was a locomotive engineer for 39 years and, at
retirement, was the number one engineer in seniority. He retired after 44
years of service with this company. He was well respected for his punctuality,
honesty, work ethic and friendliness. He was first, a wonderful family man. He
enjoyed movies, fishing, pheasant hunting, golf and other outings with his
wife and four children. He supported the children in all their endeavors and
strongly encouraged them to graduate from universities and colleges, which
they did. He was affectionately called "Grandpa" by all his grandchildren and
great grandchildren. He also loved pets and his faithful dog, Rosie, was
always by his side until his passing. After his retirement, he volunteered as
the Marshall at the Mountain View Golf Course. He was an avid golfer and golf
buddy to hundreds. He is one of the few persons to have five hole-in-ones.
John was known as a man of strong character, values, personal ethics and
integrity. He was compassionate, understanding, and generous. He touched the
lives of countless people for good. John is preceded in death by his wife,
Gladys Brown; his parents; his sister, Sykie Brown; stepdaughter, Marilyn
Moore Brewster; and grandson, Richard Brown. He is survived by his son,
Richard C. Brown (Susan) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, his stepsons, Lester
W. B. Moore (Jeanie) of Draper, Utah and Joseph L. Moore (Donna) of Bountiful,
Utah; his sister, Connie Davis (Richard) of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; his
brother Jimmy Brown (Karen) of Salt Lake City, Utah; 23 grandchildren and 38
great-grandchildren. The family wants to thank all of the doctors, nurses and
staff who cared for him. All were kind and very considerate to John. Funeral
services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2005, at the
Midvale 5th Ward Chapel, 8171 So. Jackson St., Midvale, Utah. Friends and
family may visit Friday between 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Goff Mortuary, 8090 So.

Burley, Charles Edward
Charles Edward Burley 1922 ~ 2005 Charles E. Burley, beloved husband of
Dorothy M. Burley, passed away Jan. 6, 2005 in Omaha, Nebraska after a
Christmas trip. Born June 14, 1922 in Buffalo, N.Y. He and Dorothy traveled
many places and he was always ready to go. Chuck served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II. He is survived by two step-daughters, Sharon M. Solsky
(Joseph, Dr.) and Gayle A. Hollingsworth (Robert). Chuck's funeral and viewing
were held in Omaha, Nebraska; however, there will be a Mass said for Chuck
within the next week at St. Vincent de'Paul Catholic Church, 1375 E. Spring

Butler, Patricia Ann Melton
Patricia Ann Melton Butler 10/29/37 ~ 1/9/05 "Pat the Brat" Patricia passed
away on January 9, 2005 surrounded by her family. Pat was born on October 29,
1937 in Elisnore, Utah to Guy and Alice Jensen. Pat was raised in Salt Lake
City and attended South High. Pat married Jack D. Melton and was later
divorced. She later married Mike on April 11, 1986. Pat was employed with
Wheeler Machinery for over 20 years then retired in 2001. Pat's greatest joy
was taking care of her family and spoiling her dogs. She also loved to read.
Pat is survived by her husband Mike; sons, Steve (Merrilee) Melton, Cory
(Lisa) Butler, Cody (Stephanie) Butler, three sisters, two brothers, six
grandchildren, and was auntie to many nieces, nephews, and adopted kids. Pat
was preceded in death by her parents and brother Scott. Funeral services will
be held on Friday, January 14, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial
Mortuary, 3115 East 7800 South. Friends and family are invited to call on
Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary and one hour prior to services on
Friday. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.

Canham, Pamela Jean
Pamela Jean Canham "We all love you!" Our beloved wife, mother and friend
passed away January 11, 2005 at the age of 53, mercifully as she slept. She
fought so hard, but I think the Lord knew her little body could not handle
anymore. Mom had a huge heart. She always saw the very best in people. She
would take in any stray that needed a home, be it people or animals. Mom loved
her yard, with the pond and all the flowers. She loved her two dogs, Mitzie
and Rufus. She loved making all kinds of jewelry and crafts. But her favorite
thing would have to be her grandkids. She so looked forward to Christmas all
year just to see their little faces light up when they opened their presents.
She touched so many lives with her warmth and kindness. We will miss her
greatly. She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Kershaw and family; sons,
Marc (Jana) Manzano, George (Stephanie) Canham; daughter, Christina (Dave)
Turner; brother, Tom Elliott; sister, Sharon Clark; nephew and special helper,
Brandon Caldwell; 33 nieces, nephews and grandkids and many loving friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 15th, 12:00 p.m. at the LDS
Wardhouse at 3219 S. 300 E. Friends and family may call Friday evening from
6-8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Road, and Saturday, one
hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Redwood Memorial Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family to help cover costs.

Douros, Steve G.
Steve G. Douros 1931 ~ 2005 PRICE- Steve George Douros, age 73, slipped
peacefully into the hands of the Lord on January 9, 2005. He was born May 17,
1931 in Kenilworth, Utah to Gust and Cressy Kastranakis Douros. Married JoAnn
Olsen, January 5, 1954 in Hiawatha. Member of the Price Chapel-CMA and his
faith in the Lord was strong. Steve was proud of his service to his country as
a United States Marine and also to the community as a Price City Police
Officer. He retired from the Utah Highway Patrol with over 25 years of
service. Steve loved taking his family to Wendover and playing the slots.
Survived by his loving wife, JoAnn Douros, Price; sons, Steve (Regina) Douros,
Covina, California; Michael (Connie) Douros, John (Sue) Douros; brothers, Tony
(Cathy) Douros; Andrew (Reva) Douros, all of Price; grandchildren, Steven,
Athena, John Paul "JP", Chris, Jenifer, Drew and Dustin; and great-grandson,
Steven. Preceded in death by parents, brother, John; sister, Mary; and sons,
Christopher and Brad Douros. The family would like to give a special thanks to
Dr. Tudor for all his love and care. Memorial service, Saturday, January 15,

Fakaosiula, Aisake
Aisake Fakaosiula 1915 ~ 2005 Our loving father and grandpa, Aisake, passed
away peacefully on January 5, 2005 due to recent health complications. He was
born to Semisi Fakaosiula and Mele Kanomaka on October 8, 1915 in 'Uiha
Ha'apai, Tonga. Aisake has returned to his Father in Heaven and was welcomed
by his wife Lepeka who preceded him in death in 2001. He is survived by his
sons, Semisi (Silia) Fakaosiula of Tonga, Kafauailimu (Popua) Fakaosiula of
Salt Lake City, Viliami (Heleine) Fakaosiula of Salt Lake City, Mailefihi
Fakaosiula of Salt Lake City, and Sefesi (Hangale) Fakaosiula of Long Beach,
California; his daughters, Melelupe Fakaosiula of Tonga, Mele Foliaki
(Mataele) Taufa of New Hebridies, Mele Ma'u (Saletili) Vaisima of Salt Lake
City; 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be
held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 2005 at the Kearns 9th Ward, 5215 South
4620 West. A viewing will be held at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South
Redwood Road in West Jordan, on Sunday from 7-10 p.m. and one hour prior at
the church. Interment, Redwood Memorial Cemetery, West Jordan.

Gentry, Johnne Rae
Johnne Rae Gentry Nana Johnne Rae "Nana" Gentry, age 75 our beloved mother and
grandmother went home by Grace and with grace to our Savior, on Jan. 10, 2005
in Salt Lake City, Utah where she had been living with her son for the past
several years. Johnne was born on Jan. 23, 1929 in Grand Prairie, TX as the
youngest of seven children, to John Mitchell Daugherty (who died 10 days prior
to her birth) and Bertha Taylor Daugherty. She came from pioneers on both
sides of the family who settled Texas in the days of the Republic. Her
Grandmother was Ella Dora Chisholm from the famed Chisholm Trail, and was a
Cherokee Indian. Bertha managed to raise and educate her children by operating
her laundry business in Grand Prairie during the depression...even then,
people needed clean clothes! Mom was Irish, English and Cherokee and tough as
a boot. She graduated from Grand Prairie High in 1946 and from St Paul's
school of nursing in 1949, where she received her RN. She first worked for Dr.
McCloud in Dallas as an OB GYN nurse, then helped manage the Medical Dept. for
many years with DR. Toby at Vought which later became LTV under Jim Ling.
Angus Wynn then asked her to start the medical dept at Six Flags. She met Jeff
Gentry when they were 10 yrs old in 1939, while he was working as a soda clerk
in the family store on Main Street in Grand Prairie. She knew that they were
going to be married right then. They dated and were married for 33 yrs until
his premature passing from a heart attack in 1982. Jeff graduated from Texas
Tech and went to work for Vought as well. He rose from the bottom of the
organization to ultimately be an officer in E-Systems. He gave everything to
his family, the community, his work and church, where he taught 8th grade
Sunday school at the Methodist church for many years and served on the Grand
Prairie school Board for several years in the 1960's. Johnne NEVER met a
challenge she could not handle. She was a fearless Christian woman and a great
nurse, helping many thousands of people during her lifetime. She was preceded
in death by her husband Jeff, her sisters Marie, Lucille, Imogene, and her
brothers Ross, Ken and John W., who was the Mayor of Grand Prairie. She leaves
behind her nieces Ouida Smith, and Pat Thompson and nephews Ken Smith, Lynn
Motley, David and Roland Davie. and her children Marcy Beach who was Miss
Teenage Dallas in 1969 and received her BA degree in History from the
University of Texas Austin, Gary Beach, Marcy's husband of 33 yrs., and Jeff
Gentry Jr, who was, and is, an active little rascal receiving degrees in
Engineering and Geology from the University of Utah. Her Grandchildren are
Taylor Beach and Gentry Beach, both graduates of the Wharton Business School.
Gentry Beach was, and is, an active rascal, too. Paula Wallace was her best
friend from childhood and she and Jeff were the godparents to the Wallace
children, Rodney, Carla, Randy, Robbie and Rhea Rhea, who was, and is, another
active little rascal and Jeff Gentry Jr's best friend from childhood. Johnne
was very sick for many years until her death, but always lived by Winston
Churchill's motto of "never, never, never giving up". The earth has lost a
great woman, but she is resting with God now, and this is the greatest Gift
Jesus's grace and suffering has given to the world. Her visitation will be
from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday Jan 13th at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral
Home in Dallas and her funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14 at
the Highland Park United Methodist Church in Cox Chapel.

Goates, Bruce Larkin
Bruce Larkin Goates 1927 ~ 2005 Bruce Larkin Goates, beloved husband, father,
brother, grandfather and uncle, died January 4, 2005, in Encinitas, CA, of an
extended illness. He was born May 22, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lesley
Goates and Leda Meryl Kirkham Goates. Bruce attended South High School in Salt
Lake City where he was editor of the South High Scribe. After high school, he
joined the navy and was seaman second class, V6-USNR, stationed in San Diego,
California. He was a journalist for the base newspaper. After serving in the
navy, Bruce attended the University of Utah and was editor of the Pen, a
campus literary magazine. He also was a member of the Beta Theta Pi
fraternity. Bruce married Mary Katheryn Boyce Summers on May 17, 1949, in Salt
Lake City. Mary K. passed away on May 8, 2002. They were sealed in the San
Diego Temple on May 24, 2003. Bruce received a Bachelor of Science degree in
Psychology from the University of Utah in 1951. He received a Masters Degree
(with Distinction) in Clinical Psychology from the same institution in 1957.
He was a member of the American Psychological Association and the Utah
Psychological Association. Bruce was a United States Public Health Service
Fellow (1953 - 1955). He held an internship in Clinical Psychology (1953 -
1955) and later a teaching assistant position with the Department of
Psychiatry at the University of Utah College of Medicine (1955 - 1956). He
also was a United States Public Health Service Fellow with the Graduate Study
Department of Psychology at the University of Utah (1956 - 1958). During his
tenure as Senior Psychologist with the Utah State Hospital in Provo, Utah
(1958 - 1959) and as Director of Mental Health Community Services and Acting
Director of the Division of Mental Health with the Utah State Department of
Health (1959 - 1960), Bruce provided leadership in planning, writing and
organizing community education for Utah's first Community Mental Health
Services Act. He also planned and organized the first mental health services
delivered by local government in Salt Lake City. Bruce served as Executive
Secretary to the Joint Mental Health Advisory Committee to the Salt Lake City
and County Health Departments (1960 - 1961) and as Assistant Director and
Chief Psychologist of the Salt Lake County Mental Health Center (1961 - 1966).
In 1967, Bruce provided leadership in planning and developing a comprehensive
Community Mental Health Center. He then implemented a program of mental health
services for the Juvenile Court (1968). From 1973 to 1980, Bruce served as
Administrative Director, Clinical Director of Adult Services, and Chief
Psychologist of Granite Community Mental Health Center in Salt Lake City. From
1980 to 1983, Bruce was Deputy Director and Director of Training for the Salt
Lake County Division of Mental Health. Bruce was appointed Clinical Assistant
Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of
Utah, and served in that position from 1977 to 1987. From 1982 through 1984,
Bruce served as Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Utah Psychological
Association. He continued to serve as a member of that committee until his
retirement. In October 1982 Bruce received the Norman S. Anderson Award "for
creative and outstanding leadership in establishing and administering a model
community mental health center." In August 1983 he received a special award
from the Salt Lake County Mental Health Department "for dedicated public
service to the mentally ill and the community mental health movement in Utah.
In 1977 Bruce began a part-time clinical psychology private practice, and in
1982 he moved to full-time private practice, working from an office attached
to his Salt Lake City home. He continued private practice until his retirement
in August of 2002, when he moved to Carlsbad, CA. Bruce had two passions:
music and writing. His passion for music extended from classical to jazz and
from a'capella to oratorio. His passion for writing was forged as a senior in
high school when he worked for his father at the Deseret News. Les Goates was
the sports editor, with a daily column entitled, "Les Go." Bruce had a deep
love and respect for language, for literary forms, and for books. He blessed
us with many masterfully written "Journal Entries." For several years, he
produced a one-page abridgement of the First Presidency Message from the
Ensign Magazine for use as a home teaching tool. Bruce served in various
capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including
bishop's confidant, ward clerk, ordinance worker in the San Diego Temple,
family history consultant, counselor in the Sunday school presidency,
priesthood instructor, and dedicated home teacher. Many will remember his
endless capacity to listen lovingly. Bruce is survived by his son, Gary Bruce
Goates, his wife, Patricia Anntoinette Goates, their children, Veronica Kate,
Savannah Kate, and Gabriel Bruce (Mountain View, CA), and his daughter,
Mallori Whitney Kester-Goates (Santa Clara, CA); his son, Gregory Bruce
Goates, his wife, Constance Kralik Goates, their children, Rebecca Mary, Grant
Daniel, and Matthew Gregory (Encinitas, CA); his daughter, Wendy Katheryn
Goates England, her husband, Walter Don England, their children, Katie Rae,
Walter Ian, and Briana Catherine (Esparto, CA); his brother, L. Brent Goates
(Salt Lake City), and his brother-in-law, Lewis H. DeYoung (Salt Lake City).
Bruce was a man of great accomplishment, deep spirituality, and abiding love
for his family. His earthly presence will be dearly missed. Friends may call

Hammond, Wayne Eugene
Wayne Eugene Hammond 1914 ~ 2005 Wayne Eugene Hammond, age 90, passed away
January 12, 2005 in Tooele, Utah. Wayne was born November 21, 1914 in Lake
Point, Utah to William J. Hammond and Jerusha Garrard. He married Vera Madill
in 1937 in Tooele, Vera passed away in 1979. Wayne married Elva Talbot Yates
in 1982, she passed away in 2001. He had two children, many grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, plus many step grandchildren and step great-
grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005 at
11:00 a.m. at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South. The family will
receive friends at a viewing one hour prior to the services on Saturday at

IvaDell Holmberg 1907 ~ 2005 IvaDell Green Holmberg peacefully passed away
January 11, 2005 with her children at her bedside. Born May 30, 1907 in
American Fork, UT to Emily Adamson and John Erastus Green. She married John
Colson Holmberg, April 15, 1931 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a practicing
nurse in the original Primary Children's Hospital on North Temple. After the
death of her husband she returned to nursing at LDS Hospital. She was a member
of the LDS Church where she held many positions, and true to the teachings of
the gospel she dedicated her life to her family and those around her. Survived
by her four children: daughter Pat (Jack) Stevenson, Midway, UT; daughter
Donna (Le Deal) King-Firth, Idaho; son John M. "Marve"- Salt Lake City, UT;
daughter Linda (Gary) Service, Midvale, UT. Also survived by 12 grandchildren,
24 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death
by her husband John C. Holmberg. Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 15,
2005, 12 noon, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 So. where friends may
call Fri. 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Interment Larkin Sunset
Gardens.

Jensen, Gary Prestmann
Gary Prestmann Jensen 1954 ~ 2004 Our loving son, brother, father, uncle,
nephew, cousin and friend passed away peacefully Nov 12, 2004 in Aalborg
Denmark where a memorial service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. Gary was born May 27, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah to
Severin and Amy Prestmann Jensen. He graduated from Skyline High School in
1972 and attended three years at the University of Utah. His quick-wit and
great sense of humor will be truly missed. Although his spirit has been
reunited with loved ones preceding him in death, Gary will continue to
exercise his patience, awaiting final unity with those left behind. Gary is
survived by his parents, two daughters (Denmark), Natasha and "little" Aimee
who was his "Ojesten", and his two brothers, Michael (Stacy) and Graydon. We
invite family and friends for a visit at their parents home Friday Jan. 14,

Kenneth L. Johnson A Very Talented Craftsman BEAVER DAM, ARIZONA - Kenneth
"Red" Lamar Johnson, 73 of Beaver Dam died January 6, 2005 at his home
surrounded by his family. Red was born October 20, 1931 to William and Lucille
Johnson in Utah. He is survived by a son, Kenny Johnson, of Salt Lake City,
Utah; three daughters, Kathy(Jesse) Rivera of Phelan, California; Diana (Mike)
Bowcutt of Taylorsville, Utah; and Shelly Williams of Beaver Dam, Arizona; 10
grandchildren; 14 great-grand-children; many nieces and nephews; and lifelong
friends, Elaine Johnson and Don Welch. Red was preceded in death by his
parents, a sister Lorna Davis, a brother Billy "Fatty" Johnson, and a son Rick
Lane. Interment of Red's ashes will take place at a graveside service on
Friday, January 14, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Murray City Cemetery, 5490 South Vine
Street, Murray, Utah.

Kennelly, Virgil James
Virgil James Kennelly In Loving Memory Our beloved father, grandfather,
brother, and dear friend, Virgil James Kennelly, 95, passed away January 6,
2005 in Denver, CO. Born in Salt Lake City, UT on May 5, 1909 to Arthur E. and
Jessie A. Ryan Kennelly, Virgil was younger brother to Arvilla May and Arthur
E., Jr. Virgil married Ruby Rose Snow on March 11, 1935. Their marriage was
solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, Oct. 11, 1939. They resided Culver City
for over 55 years, where they raised their three children. Virgil's life's
work was building and beautifying. A carpenter by trade, he built many homes,
and built sets for MGM, 20th Century Fox, and Walt Disney Studios. Virgil
loved to garden and work outdoors. He also gave much time to the construction
of the Santa Monica Stake Center, and the La Cienega Ward chapel. He was a
member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served the Lord
faithfully for over 65 years. Virgil did much missionary, temple, and
volunteer work, assisting the elderly and widows, and was always willing to
help someone in need. Virgil loved music and he used his wonderful voice and
talents (piano, organ, guitar, banjo, accordion, and harmonica) to give joy
and enjoyment to all. He loved barbershop quartets and baseball. Virgil will
be most remembered for the loving devotion and support he tirelessly and
unselfishly gave to his family. He was preceded in death by his dear wife,
Ruby (June 19, 1991). Survived by their son, Michael (Beth) Kennelly of NY;
two daughters, Jenny Lind (Bill) Grotemeyer of CO; and, Georgia (Steve) Sander
of PA; 14 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Friends may call Sat.,
January 15th, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple,

Stern V. Larson 1909 ~ 2005 Stern V. Larson died peacefully at his home on
January 11, 2005. He was born June 7, 1909 in Murray, Utah to Carl August
Larson and Elda Anderson Larson. He married Dorothy Ridd September 1, 1932 in
the Salt Lake Temple. He retired from ZCMI after nearly 30 years of service.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and
served in the High Priests and Priesthood Quorum and other Church Auxiliary
organizations. He was a member of Holiday North Stake, Valley View Second and
San Diego Nineteenth Wards. Stern was also a life member of the Two/Ten
Associates. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Ridd Larson and son
L. Ridd Larson. Survivors: daughter-in-Law Honey Jex Larson, Salt Lake City;
daughter and son-in-law AnnVan Sickle and Douglas J. Van Sickle, San Diego;
four grandchildren, James Ridd Larson married to Kaisa Thor, Alix Ann Van
Sickle married to Michael A. Block, Mark Douglas Van Sickle, and Jonathan

Stella Glada Mills 1913 ~ 2005 On a beautiful Monday morning a gentle caring,
loving mother returned home to her Heavenly Father and her beloved family. Her
suffering is over. Born May 15, 1913 in Salt Lake City to Axel Henry Olsen and
Stella Wardley Olsen. She graduated from East High School. Married Bruce Ralph
Mills in Salt Lake City on July 6, 1933. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake
Temple. She had many church callings including Primary, and the Salt Lake
Temple as an ordinance worker for 20 years. She is survived by: son, Bruce
Ralph Mills Jr. (Evelyn), daughters, Colleen (Gaye) Stevenson (Darwin), S.
Jeanne Brown (Kent), seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two
great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters
Sally Cope, and Opal Johnson, and granddaughter Lori Gaye Stevenson. Services
will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, at 12:00 noon on
Friday, January 14. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:45 prior to the funeral.
Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park immediately following the

Mildred Lucille Phillips Paramore 1910 ~ 2005 Mildred Lucille Phillips
Paramore passed away two days shy of her 95th birthday on January 9, 2005.
Mildred was born January 11, 1910 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Roy Barney
Phillips and Millie K. Phillips Dunlap. She married Fred Lees Paramore on
October 22, 1938; he died December 7, 1944. She worked as an accountant for
many years. Mildred is survived by sisters, Maxine Dunlap and Beverly (Frank)
Behunin; brother, Melvin R. (Jean) Dunlap; beloved nephews and niece Michael
(Jane) Dunlap, Terry (Shella) Behunin, Robert (Jill) Behunin, Sandy (Chad)
Decker, 13 cherished great- grand and four great-great-grand nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Helen Louise
Phillips King. Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 14, 2005 at
1:00 p.m. at Lake Hills Cemetery located at 10055 So. State Street. A viewing

Park, Maria Kwidong
Maria Kwidong Park 1909 ~ 2005 Maria Kwidong Park, 95, passed away peacefully
January 12, 2005 in Salt Lake City in the presence of her loving family. She
was born October 15, 1909 in Seoul, Korea, the oldest daughter to Mr. and Mrs.
Seung Ho Park. She was married at age 16 years to Mr. Byung W. Kim and became
widowed soon after marriage without any children. Maria Park raised Dr. Wendy
Y. Kim, one of her sister's (Mrs. Milja Park Yea) twin daughters as her own
shortly after birth and Mrs. Maria Moonhea Yea, another niece of Salt Lake
City. Maria Park first migrated to Australia in 1964 and then to the United
States in 1966, and lived with Mrs. Wendy Kim and her family in Logan, Salt
Lake City and Bountiful until her death. Maria Park devoted her entire life in
raising and caring for her nieces, nephews and their children, particularly
the children of Dr. and Mrs. Yun Kim and cherished all of their
accomplishments. Maria Kwidong Park is preceded by her younger sister, Mrs.
Milja Park Yea who died in 2001 in Salt Lake City at age 88 years. She is
survived by her nieces, Mrs. Maria Moonhea Yea of Salt Lake City; Mrs Bonnie
Hong (Dr. Soon Sung Hong, husband) of Virginia; Mrs. Wendy Kim (Dr. Yun Kim,
husband) of Bountiful; and Mrs. Mindy Kim (Mr. Sun Kyun Kim, husband) of Salt
Lake City and nephews Mr. Eui Myung Yea of Tacoma, Washington and Dr. Eui Sung
Yea of Seoul, Korea. Her six nieces and nephews have 17 children and 23
grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, January 14, 2005 at 2:00 p.m.
and the Cathedral of the Madeline, 331 East and South Temple, Salt Lake City,
where family and friends are invited. Final resting place will be at the
Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Bountiful, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, following
the services.

Paulsen, Helen Anderson
Helen Avon (Bonnie) Anderson Paulsen 1925 ~ 2005 She always thought of herself
as a downtown girl and loved growing up in beautiful Salt Lake City in the
1940's. She enjoyed her first job as a delivery girl for the old Dayne's
Jewelry Co. located at 128 South Main. She loved walking from Z.C.M.I. down
Main Street past T.W. Grant's, F.W. Woolworth's, Kress's and around the corner
on Broadway to the Paris Co., Keith O'Brien's and Auerbach's. She loved to see
and greet people she knew. Helen Avon (Bonnie) Anderson was born on July 10,
1925 - the first child of five born to Alexander Pyper and Helen Mar Woodruff
Anderson. She passed away January 10, 2005. Bonnie had a very happy childhood
growing up in the venerable Woodruff Villa (1891) at 1622 South Fifth East.
She attended South High School and was graduated from the University of Utah
where she was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. She married the love of her
life, Abel Ellingsen Paulsen, on August 5, 1953 in the Salt Lake L.D.S.
Temple. They were the parents of five children, 22 grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. She has missed her dear Abel immensely these past four
years. He took such wonderful care of her as her health failed. Bonnie loved
people! She was a hostess at the Beehive House for many years and took great
delight in showing guests through that lovely old home. Later she enjoyed
serving as a guide at the L.D.S. Church Office Building. Bonnie felt it a
great privilege to sing in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and to make musical
recordings with the great orchestras of the world. She and her dear friends
were on the front row directly behind Alexander Schreiner, where they were
able to partake of his musical genius and sparkling wit first hand. Bonnie was
so thankful for her pioneer heritage - those sturdy souls who made their way
across the great plains to come to the Salt Lake Valley and help make it
blossom as a rose. Mom was the best homemaker and made everything she did
beautiful. Christmas was always a special time in the Paulsen home. Everything
was decorated so lovely. Mom loved to make delicious treats for her neighbors
and friends. She learned the art of candy making from her beloved Aunt Evelyn
Woodruff. No one baked or cooked like Mom and we all have the figures to prove
it! The things most dear to Mother's heart were her testimony of the gospel of
Jesus Christ, Abel, her children and grandchildren. She loved her family with
all her heart and in return they loved and adored her. Bonnie is survived by
Rebecca (Ronald) Christensen, Salt Lake City, Elizabeth Hulbert, Brigham City,
Matthew W. (Ramona) Paulsen, Salt Lake City, Naomi (Dr. Jeffrey R.) Lish,
Mantua, Sarah Paulsen (David Brown), Twin Falls, ID, Barbara Miller, Los
Angeles, CA, Woodruff (Sandy) Anderson, Albion, ID, Judith A. (Jack) Jones,
and Lynda Tassainer, Salt Lake City. The family would like to thank the dear
members of East Mill Creek Second Ward for all their compassionate service

Vincent G. Pearson 1917 ~ 2005 Our loving husband, father, grandfather and
self appointed "tease of young and old" passed away on January 12, 2005. He
was born on March 21, 1917 to Henning and Lydia Lindquist Pearson in Brocton,
MA. His family moved to the Salt Lake Valley in 1920, where he was raised and
attended school. In 1935 Vince moved to California where he met LaVerda
Fitzgerald. They were later married in Yerington, NV on New Years Day of 1942.
He served in the Army during World War II. Vince retired as an international
representative of the IBEW in 1982. He was a member of the Masons Wasatch
Lodge and El Kalah Shrine. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, LaVerda;
daughters Judy (Brent) Rozelle, Pam (Richard) Tingey, Wendy (Stan) Carter and
Paula Broussard, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren; brothers,
Buddy and Bob Pearson. Preceded in death by his sister, Ester and brothers,
George and Larry. Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 15, 2004 at 2:00
p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 So., Sandy. Friends and family

Leo Christian Petersen 1918 ~ 2005 Our loved husband, father, grandfather,
great-grandfather and friend slipped quietly into his Heavenly Father's arms
on Monday, January 10, 2005. Born March 10, 1918 in Blackfoot, ID to John
Petersen and Annie Matilda Peterson. Leo grew up in Star Valley, WY. He grew
to value honesty, integrity, hard work, kindness, and a love for our Heavenly
Father. Leo taught these principles to his children and was a strong example
to all who knew him. He married Beulah Neva Jenkins on September 23, 1940 in
Rigby, Idaho, later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Following Beulah's
passing, he married Doris Freeman. During World War II, Leo participated in
Italy, France, and Germany. Leo had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and served
faithfully in many church positions. He particularly enjoyed working in the
Jordan River Temple baptistery in his later years. Leo is survived by his
wife, Doris; and sons, Claine (Juanita), St. Louis; Bernell (Beverly),
Billings; Milton, Taylorsville; David (Lisa), Midvale; Dann (Glenda), Wanship;
and Jim (Renae), Midvale. He was also blessed with 21 grandchildren and 20
great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Beulah;
and three infant children, Leo J, Barbara Ann and Gwenna Lee. We wish to give
a special thanks to the dedicated workers at Bennion Heritage Care Center for
their kindness and love in making his final months here on earth comfortable.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 14th at Granite Ridge Ward,
3100 East Little Cottonwood Road (9400 So.). Friends may call Thursday 6-8
p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, or Friday at the church, 10-10:45 a.m.
A short service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 15th at Freedom
Ward, Freedom, Wyoming. Friends may call at the church 10-10:45 a.m. prior to
the service. Interment to follow at Freedom Cemetery.

Petty, Lyle D.
Lyle D. Petty 1921 ~ 2005 Lyle D. Petty, 83, Pocatello, died Monday, January
10, 2005 at his home. He was born Oct. 30, 1921 in Hiawatha, Utah to Homer and
Ruth McDonald Petty. Lyle married LaDonna Studham, Sept. 20, 1941 in Pioche,
Nevada. She preceded him in death Nov. 11, 2002. He served his country in the
United States Army during World War II. Lyle worked as an automotive repairman
for Streeter Chevrolet in Salt Lake City, Utah. He enjoyed traveling,
particularly with his family, fine arts and was an avid NASCAR fan. Lyle was a
member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was liked by all
that knew him. The statement "nobody doesn't like Lyle Petty" was true. Lyle
is survived by two sons, Stephen L. (Anne) Petty of California; Dr. Scott S.
Petty, Pocatello; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister,
Jacquee Bennett, Eureka, California. He was preceded in death by his parents
and two brothers. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005 at
2:00 p.m. in the Cornelison~ Henderson Funeral Chapel, 431 North 15th Ave.,
Pocatello, Idaho, with Bishop Boyd D. Roberts, conducting. The family will
receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to
the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow services in
Mountain View Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the Pocatello
Veteran's Honor Guard.

Pilling, Woodrow Leon
Woodrow Leon Pilling 1916 ~ 2005 BIG SPRING RANCH, CARBON COUNTY - Woodrow
Leon Pilling, 88, Big Spring Ranch, Carbon County, UT, passed away January 10,
2005, at Castleview Hospital, Price, Utah. Born September 5, 1916, at Desert
Lake, Utah, to William and Albertina Christensen Oveson Pilling. Married Erma
Burton May 31, 1935, at Wellington, Utah. Woodrow loved his family and left
them a wonderful legacy. He was a gentleman whose integrity, honesty and
decency left this world a better place. He was dearly loved by all of his
family and friends and there will be a great void left by his passing,
including his ever present cowboy hat and electric smile. He built the
straightest fences around and could put shoes on a horse that couldn't be
thrown. He helped carry the famous Pilling Figurines by packsaddle out of
Range Creek and drove the first motorized vehicle into Range Creek, a Ford
pickup. He had a deep interest in Native American history and cowboy history.
He loved tending to his livestock and the ranch and he always wanted a horse
close by. Member of the LDS Church, United Mine Workers of America, Grassy
Trail Riding Club and was named, along with Erma, Conservationist Rancher of
the Year by the Price River Soil Conservation District, April 6, 1991.
Survived by wife, Erma, of 69 years, Price, Utah; sons: Kent and Carol
Pilling, Big Spring Ranch and Huntington, Utah; Bill and Anna May Pilling,
Carbonville, Utah; daughters: Jeanne and Jim Marrs, Price, Utah; Suzan and
Skip Critchlow, Wellington, Utah; 12 grandchildren and numerous
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces,
nephews and friends. Preceded in death by parents, son Jack Clinton, six
brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren and one great-grandson. Funeral
services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005, at 12 noon at the Wellington
Stake Center, 935 East Main, Wellington, Utah. Family will be at the Stake
Center from 11 a.m. to noon for visitation. Burial will be at the Price City
Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary. Memorial donations may be
made in Woodrow's name to the College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum,
Price, Utah.

Lester Raymond Pons 1/7/19 ~ 12/26/04 SALEM, OREGON - Lester Raymond Pons died
December 26, 2004 at the age of 85. Les Pons was born January 7, 1919 in Salt
Lake City, Utah. He married Wilma in 1942; she died in 1999. Les is survived
by two sons; Casey (named for Casey Tibbs) and Will (named for Will James),
and one granddaughter Leah. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m.,

Pugsley, Maxine
Maxine Pugsley 1926 ~ 2005 Maxine Pugsley, age 82, passed away on Jan. 11.
2005. She was preceded in death by husband Wayne Pugsley, son Jeff, and
siblings (and spouses) Roy (Kathleen) Gray, Dilbert (Virginia) Tucker, Betty
(John) Dewaal. Our beloved mother is survived by sister Darlene Edelin and
many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends Maxine enjoyed not only the
finer things in life, but all that life had to offer. She had a quick wit and
always enjoyed a good joke. Her ability to adapt to difficult challenges in
her life made her a great role model. Maxine taught those around her to live
in the moment and be grateful for what they have. She will be truly missed and
remembered always. Funeral services will be Sat. Jan. 15, 2005 at 12:00 noon
at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Drive. Friends and family may

Rains, Marjorie Baldwin
Marjorie Baldwin Rains 1923 ~ 2005 LEHI, UT- Marjorie Baldwin Rains peacefully
returned to our Heavenly Father January 11, 2005 while surrounded by her
children and loved ones. She was born to Nathaniel and Elizabeth Baldwin May
12, 1923 in East Mill Creek, UT. She was a very dedicated mother, grandmother
and great-grandmother. She leaves behind six of her eight children, Claudia
(Adan) Reynoso, Don (Norma) Rains, Joy (Lamoine) Jenson, Ann (Steve) Barlow,
Roger (Ruth) Rains and Joseph (LoRene) Rains, and brother Jared Baldwin. She
will also be missed by 39 grandchildren and 129 great-grandchildren. She is
preceded in death by her husband Claude Russell Rains, two sons Dean Leon
Rains and Richard Nephi Rains. She will always be remembered for her devotion
to our Heavenly Father and many selfless hours of service for those whom she
loved so much. She could often be heard saying, "I always want to be busy
doing something useful." She loved going on nature walks while gathering
wildflowers and listening to the birds. We will have a special viewing for
friends and family at 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 14th at 887 West
1220 North, Lehi, UT. We will also have a viewing at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday,
January 15th followed by her funeral at 1:00 p.m. located at 1224 W. 17000 S.

Rickart, Clarence
Clarence Rickart 9/20/15 ~ 1/11/05 Clarence Rickart passed away the morning of
January 11, 2005 at the age of 89 at St. Joseph's Villa in Salt Lake City,
Utah of cancer. He was born September 20, 1915 in Bountiful, Utah to Frederick
Rickart and Alice Ann Darke, the eighth of eleven children. He served his
country during World War II in Europe as part of an Engineering unit. He
worked many years at Kennecott Copper Corporation until his retirement from
the Garfield Smelter. Everyone acquainted with Clarence knew him to be a kind
and generous man who treated everyone equally no matter their background or
circumstances. He enjoyed listening to sports on the radio, especially hockey.
In his younger years he enjoyed playing cards with his brothers and nieces and
nephews. His final act of generosity was to establish the Clarence Rickart
Education Trust to provide an education opportunity for some who may not be
able to secure an education on their own. Clarence was preceded in death by
his parents and seven brothers and three sisters, and is survived by many
nieces and nephews. A viewing will take place Friday, January 14, at 12 noon
at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, followed by a
graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2020 South 2nd
West, Bountiful, Utah.

Schwemin, Edna T.
Edna T. Schwemin "Hey Bingo pals, win the blackout for me." MESQUITE, NEVADA -
Edna T. Schwemin, age 83, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2005, in Mesquite,
Nevada, after a short illness. She was born November 25, 1921, in Hoytsville,
Utah, a daughter of Frank Hamilton and Priscilla Mills Taylor. Edna grew up
and attended school in Park City, Utah. She married Harold C. Carpenter in
1939. Harold was killed in a mining accident in 1946. She later met and
married the love of her life, Raymond N. Schwemin, in 1948. They had 52
wonderful years together before Ray died in 2000. Edna was employed by the
railroad during World War II. After marrying Ray, she took a few years off to
become a full-time mother. Later, she had a career as a Beautician for a few
years before she and Ray retired to live in Southern Nevada. Both Ray and Edna
had a zest for life that included a lot of bowling and fishing during their
retirement years. Edna made many friends playing Bingo in Boulder City and
Mesquite. Edna is survived by her: daughter, Claudine (Don) Schwidt, of
Mesquite, NV; sons, Fred (Patti) Schwemin and Harold (Julie) Carpenter, of
Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren, Chris, Dameon, Paul, Curtis, and Philip;
great-grandchildren, Hailey and Nikolas; and one sister, Elva (Ron) Mahoney,
of Salt Lake City, UT. She was preceded in death by her: husbands; brothers,
Harold, Roy, and James; sister, Priscilla; and parents. Funeral services will
be held Friday, January14, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic
Church, 1058 W. 400 S., Salt Lake City, UT. There will be a visitation
one-half hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Park City Cemetery,
Park City, UT. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury

Dean E. Scott 1930 ~ 2005 Dean E. Scott, returned to his Father in Heaven Jan.
10, 2005, in Salt Lake City, UT. Born Jan. 5, 1930, in Salt Lake City, UT to
John Rulon and Mabel Johnson Scott. Preceded in death by wife Marilyn Sherwood
Scott, as well as brothers, John and David Scott. Dean was thought of as a
sweet and intelligent man, with a great sense of humor. He loved the gospel
and happily served an LDS mission in the North Western States. He later earned
a bachelor's degree in secondary education from BYU and enjoyed a career of
teaching History and Social Studies. He was an avid reader and enjoyed
fishing. Dean was privileged to be a husband, father, grandfather, and
great-grandfather. Survived by children, Kim Scott, John Scott, Brittany
Stepan and Jenni Scott; three grandchildren and one great- grandchild. Funeral
services will be held on Sat., Jan. 15, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary,

Sovereen, Cory Blake
Cory Blake Sovereen 1970 ~ 2005 Our son, our brother, our cousin, our nephew,
friend to all, and most recently, uncle to Kaitlin - after living a fast and
glorious life, Cory has excelled to the perfection and gained the serenity he
has always deserved. Cory B. Sovereen, better known as "Sov", was born to
Debbie and Brent Sovereen, September 8, 1970 and raised with the additional
love of his step-father and mentor, Robert Bennion. Cory graduated from
Bountiful High School and Weber State University. His greatest love was
nurturing long term relationships, many of which were conceived while
participating on Bountiful High School and Weber State College basketball
teams. He had a tremendous love for all sports, but excelled at snow skiing,
water skiing and basketball. Yet the times he enjoyed the most, will always be
just hangin' with his brother, Chris, and life-long friend, C.B., his dogs,
Gilda and Nada and all the neighborhood children who loved him so dearly. Cory
will be with us forever with each game of hoops, each powder day and each time
the water is like glass at Lake Powell. It is then when we'll know Cory is
beside us cheering us on to greater achievements. Cory is survived by his
Mother, Debbie Bennion; Father, Brent Sovereen; Step-father, Robert Bennion;
Brothers, Christian Sovereen and Cory Bennion; sister-in-law, Kim Sovereen and
nice Kaitlin. He is also survived by Grandma Della Bradshaw, Grandparents,
Mack and Melladene Wilkins; and Great-grandma, Bertha Court. Cory now watches
over more nieces, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends than anyone has ever
gathered in 34 short years on earth. Additionally, Cory is survived by his
Aunt Kim and is forever grateful for the never ending support and love given
to him. He is preceded in death by wonderful friend, Max Turner; Grandpa Newel
Bradshaw; Grandparents, Bus and Donna Sovereen; Aunt Shauna Irwin and loving
great-grandparents. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 14, 2005 at

Thacker, Madison Kay
Madison Kay Thacker 1994 ~ 2005 Madison Kay Thacker passed away January 8,
2005 in Los Angeles CA. She was born August 22. 1994 in Lancaster, CA where
she lived with her family. She is survived by her parents William and Karen
Thacker; sisters, Courtney, Kaley, Samantha, brother Spencer, grandparents
Wayne and Donna Thacker of Heber City; and Richard and Norma Peterson of
Camarillo CA. Madison loved being with family and friends. She was an
excellent student who loved school and always tried to do her best. Madison
played soccer and ran track. She attended Sunnydale Elementary where she was
in the fifth grade. Madison was a friend to everyone and a joy to all who came
in contact with her. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed. A viewing
will be held in the LDS Church at 3140 West Ave K in Lancaster. between
1:00-2:45 p.m. Thursday January 13, followed by funeral service starting at 3
p.m. Madison will be buried at the Charleston Cemetery, Heber Valley, UT, with

Thomas, Mary Rachel Blakemore
Mary Rachel Blakemore Thomas 7/3/1924 ~ 1/9/2005 Mary Rachel Blakemore Thomas
passed away January 9, 2005 in Salt Lake City. Born July 3, 1924 in
Birmingham, England to Sarah Ann Parkes and Samuel Blakemore. Her parents
passed away while Mary was a young girl and she was raised by her Aunt Maud
Blakemore and William John Dyson. Mary served in the NAFI during World War II
in England as a cooking instructor. She met a young soldier named William Ivor
Thomas of Llanelli, Wales and they were married September 8, 1945. Mary and
Ivor left England after the war to settle in the United States in 1950. Their
marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Mary served in several church
callings throughout her life. She received much joy as the Primary chorister
in her ward. She also served as Young Women president and several Relief
Society callings. Her compassion for others was evident in her every day life.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William Ivor Thomas. She is
survived by daughter, Susan Mary Thomas (Jim) Owen; son, Jeffrey Ivor
(Annette) Thomas; grandchildren, Nichole Marie Owen, Spencer James Owen, and
Chelsee Lauren Thomas and Joshua Henry Thomas. Funeral services will be held
Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, 12:00 noon, at the Willow Creek 1st Chapel, 2115 E.
Sublett Place (8455 S). Friends may call the day of the service at the church
