Colosimo, Gabriel Angelo Gabriel Angelo Colosimo "Gale" 1926 ~ 2005 Our husband, father, brother, grandfather (papa), sausage maker and accordion player extraordinaire, Gabriel Angelo passed away on Monday, January 17, 2005 from a bad heart. It is ironic that his physical one failed him when his spiritual one was so big, strong and loving. He will be greatly missed by many and he leaves a huge hole and an empty seat at the Colosimo family table. The world is now minus one great accordion player and sausage maker. Gale was born September 24, 1926 in Magna, Utah in the apartment above the Rome Grocery, to his parents, Ralph and Rose Colosimo, who were the owners and proprietors of the store. It was a harbinger of his future work. Dad grew up in Magna, learned to play the accordion, played fullback for the Cyprus Pirates where he was known as "Guts," graduated in 1944 and went into the military. Upon Gale completing basic training the Germans decided to surrender, fearing his transfer overseas. He returned to his hometown and one day at Sunday Mass he saw the most beautiful woman he had ever seen and decided he was going to marry her - Ida Concettina (Connie) Disera. He married Connie on October 22, 1951 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Magna. Gale wanted six children and Connie wanted two, so they compromised and had eight. He is survived by Connie, the love of his life, and his eight children, the joys of his life, Roseanne Webber (Jerry), Nancy Gibbs (Dan), John (Kathie), Galey (Beth), Paul (Sara), Mary Markosian (Jim), Larry (Jean), Joe all of Salt Lake City. He also leaves behind his brother and partner, Ernie and two sisters, Jean Guido and Rosemarie Feraco. Then there are his 20 grandchildren, the lights of his life Danny, Matthew, Michael, Justin, Robbie, Christopher, Jamie, Gianna, Lucy, Julia, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Dominic, Adam, Samuel, Gabriel, Andrew, Madeline, Gina, and Taitlynn (Tannen). Good-bye Papa, We love you! Gale and Ernie were partners together for 58 years in the grocery business at Colosimo's Standard Market. It was the hub of their families' lives and a source of great joy, pride and humor. His children had the pleasure of learning many life's lessons while apprenticing at his side. Gale was a great innovator and tinkerer in the butcher shop. He developed and created many sausage recipes that became the lifeblood of the Market. Gale and Ernie developed and patented a sausage making machine called the "Colosimo's Press." His greatest joy this past year was to see his boys open a Colosimo's store in Sandy featuring all of his sausage products. Dad was a firm believer in the power of prayer. His prayers for the world and for his family will be greatly missed. His favorite prayer was the rosary and he prayed it daily if not hourly. He would greatly rejoice if you would join his family at a vigil service and the praying of the rosary on Thursday, January 20th at 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Magna (2840 South 9000 West). Friends may call between 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 21st at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 331 East South Temple. Friends may call between 9:00 and 9:45. Interment will be at Mount Cavalry Cemetery The family greatly appreciates the care given by both Dr. Thomas Calame and Dr. John Luras. Donations in memory of Gale can be sent to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church building fund in Magna, Utah. Many people live their lives aspiring to greatness, Gale with his compassionate mindset and gentle heart lived his life more profoundly by aspiring to goodness. Saltas, Pete George Pete George Saltas "One Tough Miner" 1918 ~ 2005 After 86 years of living life his way, Pete George Saltas, left it his way, peacefully at home, Saturday, January 15, 2005. Pete was born on the family farm, May 22, 1918 in Moreland, Idaho to George and Evanthia Pappasideris Saltas, immigrants from Megara, Greece. At a young age, his large family moved to Greek Camp in Copperfield, Bingham Canyon, Utah where by age seven he began his reputation as a hard and honest worker as a watch and shoe repairman, and newspaper delivery boy. Pete spent most of his adult life among his fellow copper miners of Bingham Canyon, first as a trackman for the B&G Railroad in 1936. He held various positions in the powder and truck departments of Utah Copper (later, Kennecott), finally retiring after 42 years of service as a General Foreman of mining operations. Pete's open pit mining expertise was instrumental during the transition of the Bingham mine from rail orientation to the modern, truck operation it is today. Pete graduated from Bingham High School in 1936 where he captained the Bingham football team. He was a noted baseball player of that era, and also spent time as a semi-professional wrestler. In the 1940's he made numerous explorations of Grand and Marble Canyons on behalf of Dr. Russell Frazier, and later joined the many adventurous men searching for uranium throughout the Moab region. There is little that Pete didn't try in his life. His strength and toughness were legendary. So was his generosity and his love for his family, with whom he particularly enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling. He married and later divorced Wanda Hatt, with whom he had four sons, Gary (Jeanne), Sam, Dick (Diane) Irey, and Jim (Linda) Irey. On August 13, 1952, he married Stella Nepolis, who was at his side, as always, on Saturday night. Their children are, John (Paula), Terry (Roxanne), Steve (Diane), and Paula (Tony) Mason. Winder passed away from natural causes January 14, 2005. Pamela was born June 18, 1934 in Tamaroa, Illinois the daughter of James and Mabel Martin. Shortly after her birth the family moved to DuQuoin, Illinois. She attended school in DuQuoin, and graduated with honors in 1952 from DuQuoin High School. Following her schooling in DuQuoin, Pamela attended Stevens College in Columbia, Missouri graduating with an Associate Degree in 1954. In 1955 Pamela entered the University of Utah. It was there that she met her future husband, David. They were married June 24, 1955, and Pam and Dave then moved to Palo Alto, California where Dave attended law school. During the law school years, Pam worked as a clerk at Palo Alto Hospital. Without her salary from the hospital and the G.I. Bill, the couple would never have made it through law school. On June 17, 1958 Dave graduated from law school, and on that same date the couple's first child, Ann, was born. She was followed by a daughter, Kay, in 1960, and a son, James, in 1964. During this time Pam was completely committed to her family. She was a wonderful wife and mother. After her children had all reached their teens, Pam looked around for something to occupy her time. She had long been a voracious reader and even when the children were younger she had attained a reputation as a book reviewer. She accepted a job as an assistant librarian at Highland High School. She worked there part-time for approximately eight years, and then transferred to Rowland Hall. She thoroughly enjoyed both of these jobs and particularly liked the involvement with the students and her co-workers. Pam was a very private person and liked nothing better than curling up along with a good book. Her enjoyment of reading was only surpassed by her interest in her five grandchildren. These grandchildren range in age from 28 to two years, and Pam loved and had a keen interest in all of them. Pamela is preceded in death by her mother and father, Mabel and James Martin. She is survived by her husband; her three children and spouses, Ann (Larry) Bugni, Kay (James) Mit-chell, James (Shawn Apgood) Winder; and five grandchildren, Laura Bugni, Tony Bugni, Andrew Bugni, David Mitchell, and Alexandria Winder.
