Ahlstrom, David Brent
David Brent Ahlstrom Will Be Missed David Brent Ahlstrom, a 32 year old
husband and father of five young boys and a baby girl, was diagnosed with
Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in June 2004. After a constant and courageous
battle, David passed away last Thursday afternoon June 16th, 2005. In the
midst of this challenge, David was happy and showed a marvelous ability to
look for the positive in every situation. Through his soft spoken example he
taught those around him how to find good in bad circumstance, be happy, love
unconditionally and live a life dedicated to service and to our Father in
Heaven. He was determined to endure well to the end and he did so. He will
live in our memories until the day we are reunited as a complete family. David
is the fifth of eight children of Marv and Louise Ahlstrom. He grew up in Los
Alamitos, California with his seven brothers and sisters, Sandra, Paul, Karen,
Marv, Tami, Jayson and Alysia. He served an LDS mission to the Philippines and
was married in the Los Angeles Temple to Tonya Lynn Beers. He worked in the
high tech industry for Folio Corporation, Knowlix, Peregrine Systems and
Altiris. He loves his five boys Andrew, Brandon, Josh, Nathan, Ian and his
baby daughter Madison. David and our entire family have very much appreciated
the kindness and service of the wonderful team at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
We are also very grateful to David's neighbors and ward members, his
co-workers at Altiris and his many friends who have extended many kind acts of
service to David and his family over the last year. Tonya and the family have
asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a donation account set up
at Zions Bank. A funeral and memorial service will be held Saturday, June
25th, 12:00 noon at the Alpine 9th Ward chapel, 901 Alpine Village Way,
Alpine, Utah. All friends and family are invited to a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m.
Friday, June 24th at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center St., Provo, Utah.
Interment will be in the Alpine City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to

Allen, Emma Jean Bates
Emma Jean Bates Allen 1925 ~ 2005 Emma Jean Bates Allen, age 80, died June 12,
2005 in Chula Vista, California. Jean was born February 4, 1925 in Salt Lake
City, Utah to Frank Bates and Agnes Teakle Bates. She married Earl D. Allen on
May 26, 1945 in Newport, Rhode Island and began a long career as a mother and
homemaker. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. She was a resident of Kaysville, Utah for forty-three years before
relocating to Chula Vista, California to live with her daughter. She is
remembered as a master homemaker, a patient mother, a kind neighbor and
friend, a person who could make everyone feel comfortable with her sense of
humor, and the best "Nana" in all the world. Survivors include her daughter
Kathy (Paul) Schaeffer of Chula Vista, California; son Tom (Kris) Allen of
Thompsons Station, Tennessee; six grandchildren, and eight
great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005,
at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends and
family may call Saturday from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Kaysville

Anderson, Coy
Coy Anderson 1957 ~ 2005 REDMOND, UT - Coy Marvell Anderson, age 47, died June
26, 2005 at his home in Redmond, Utah. He was born July 30, 1957 in Gunnison,
Utah, a son of Marvell 'Tig' and Darlene Thompson Anderson. He graduated from
North Sevier High School, Class of 1975. He married Lecia Ottley, August 13,
1977 in Aurora, Utah. They were later divorced. Coy serviced in the US Army.
He was a truck driver by profession, but a mechanic by nature. He was a big
fan of Nascar and anything with a motor. He enjoyed cooking and learned from
the best, his mother Darlene. Most of all, Coy loved his children and
grandchildren. Coy is survived by his children: Jennifer and Brad Barbre of
West Valley City; Nicole Navarro and Isaias Vallejos of Rose Park;
step-children: Chelsey Casimir and Garrett Rogers, both of New Mexico;
grandchildren: Taylor, Alissa and Corey Barbre; Destiny, Preston, Vanessa and
Felecia; sister and brother: Leslie Dickinson and Lloyd Dickinson of Aurora;
Sterling and Myrna Anderson of Ivins. He was preceded in death by his father,
Tig Anderson. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 11:00
A.M. in the Redmond Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner

Asahina, Gungi
Gungi Asahina 11/12/17 ~ 6/19/05 Gungi Asahina, 87, passed away peacefully at
home on June 19, 2005. Gungi was born in Sugar City, Idaho on November 12,
1917 to Ichiro and Yei Asahina. He later moved to Salt Lake City where he
attended Westminister College and graduated from the University of Utah. He
served honorably in the European theater with Company G 442nd Infantry
Regiment during World War II. He was an active member of the Japanese Church
of Christ and a member of Argenta Lodge No. III. He is survived by his wife of
61 years Toshi, brother George, sister Sachi, sons Bernard (Roberta) and
Stuart (Blair), grandchildren Jonathan, Allison, and Lee, and nieces and
nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Ichiro and Yei, son Jonathan,
brothers Shiro and Tomas, and sister Miye. Memorial services will be held on
Saturday June 25 at 11 a.m. at the Japanese Church of Christ, 268 W. 100 S.,
Salt Lake City, UT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Japanese
Church of Christ. Gun was a great companion and friend who will be sorely

Ballard, Dale Henriod
Dale Henriod Ballard 1922 ~ 2005 Dale Henriod Ballard passed away at
Cottonwood Hospital on June 20, 2005 at the age of 82. He was born in Magna,
Utah on December 12, 1922 to Ross Day Ballard and Ruby Henriod. His family
moved to Draper when he was four, where he was raised with seven brothers and
two sisters in a two-room house. Dale's father taught all the family the ethic
of hard work and perseverance--an ethic that became Dale's standard. Dale
attended school at Draper Elementary, Jordan Jr. High and Jordan High School.
In junior high and high school, he was a clarinet player and drum major. In
high school he won the pentathlon record of 42 straight basketball sinks in
one minute, a record that still stands. He was a very fine athlete and
participated in a number of sports during high school, college, and while
serving in the Army. Out of high school he entered the Army Infantry. At one
time, he and four of his brothers were serving in the Armed Forces during
World War II. His tour of duty lasted four years and he eventually became
Platoon Sergeant in the 3rd Army Infantry in Europe and worked in General
Patton's headquarters in charge of enlisted men in the emergency return
section. While stationed in Florida, just prior to his overseas assignment, he
met and married Alice Irene Baer on March 11, 1944. Just days after their
marriage Dale was sent overseas while Alice remained in Florida, serving in
the WAC. Returning home from the war he became one of the many men to make use
of the GI Bill. He received his degree from the University of Utah in
Pharmacology, and upon graduation, immediately went to work for Parke Davis (a
pharmaceutical company). He graduated top of his class at the Parke Davis
training school and was assigned the Grand Junction, Colorado area. This was
one of the poorest sales areas in the nation but within two years he turned it
into their number one sales district. During the time he lived in Grand
Junction he acquired a small stipend through uranium claims and desiring to
return to his roots, he requested a transfer with Parke Davis to Utah. They
refused his transfer, so with his claim money he returned to Utah and
co-founded Deseret Pharmaceutical Company in 1955. The company had very humble
beginnings selling pharmaceutical products and he often used his home as the
overflow production area. Deseret was the first medical device company in
Utah, and had remarkable success when it introduced the first disposable
operating mask. Deseret was essentially the first company to invent,
manufacture, and market many disposable medical products. Deseret was listed
on the NYSE and enjoyed substantial growth and profit. The company was
eventually sold to Warner Lambert in 1976. From 1976 to 1978, Dale worked as a
consultant for Warner Lambert on research and development until he parted
company and began Ballard Medical. This was also a medical device company,
with its main facility eventually located on the west side of the freeway in
Draper. The company grew through a number of world wide acquisitions and was
listed on the NYSE. It was sold to Kimberly Clark in 1999. During his 45 year
career in the medical field, Dale made an enduring impression on the economy
of Utah. By one account, these two companies employed over 70,000 people
during the period Dale served as President. Additionally, many men and women
achieved wealth as they bought and held stock in both Deseret and Ballard
Medical. His companies provided the training and springboard for other
individuals starting medical device companies in the Salt Lake valley. For his
tremendous contribution to Utah's economy Dale received the honor of
"Entrepreneur of the Decade" in 2000, from a prestigious Utah venture capital
club. Despite his great success, Dale considered himself a dirt farmer. In
1964, he bought a farm located just off Fort Street in Draper. Farming sugar
beets, hay, cattle and corn was one way he taught his children to work. For
years the resident of Draper would see the familiar sight of Dale in coveralls
and an old straw hat with shovel or hoe in hand. The farm was his hobby and he
raised volumes of sweet corn to give to the employees at his companies. When
the farm was sold in 2001, it was the largest undeveloped parcel on the Draper
flat land--a total of 180- acres. To many people the farm represented the
heritage and traditional lifestyle of Draper. Dale was an avid fisherman and
enjoyed many a fishing trip with family and company employees. His favorite
fishing holes were scattered along the Madison River in Montana. He seldom
came home without a substantial number of impressive trout. Most mornings
found him at the local cafe sharing stories with his brothers. His family ties
were strong and he always considered himself just "one of the boys" regardless
of his success or financial standing. His hometown roots sank deep and his
friendly ways earned him the respect and love of many Draper and Salt Lake
Valley Residents. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss his
familiar "Hello Pal" as he shared his infectious enthusiasm for life and his
commitment to hard work. His was the consummate example of unpretentious
charity and simple goodness--a truly remarkable leader in his family, in the
business world, and in his community. Dale is survived by his wife of 66
years, Alice Irene, Holladay; son, Dale H. Jr. (Jane), Draper; son, Frank W.
(Gail), Provo; daughter, Pamela, Draper; 14 grandchildren and 13 great
grandchildren; brothers, Robert, Melvin (Barbara), Wayne (Alice), Bruce
(Renee); sister, Rachel Kimball (Dale), all Draper; sister-in-law, Margaret
Ballard, Draper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Ruby;
brothers, Ross H., Gene H., Garth; sister, Barbara Allen. Funeral services
will be held Friday, June 24, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Draper LDS Stake
Center located at 13085 South 300 East, Draper, Utah. Friends may call at the
stake center on Thursday, June 23, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. or Friday from
9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Draper Cemetery.

Boren, Sage Aaron
Sage Aaron Boren 5/12/2005~6/20/2005 Sage Aaron Boren, our precious angel
returned to his Heavenly Father on June 20, 2005. He was born May 12, 2005,
the son of Travis and Mandi Boren. He brought joy to his family and friends in
the short time he was here. He is survived by his parents, big brother, Hagen
Lonnie, grandparents, Carol and Edmund Fretz, and Dean and Terry Boren, many
aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by great-grandpa, Lonnie
Boren, great-grandma, Golda Moulding and cousin, Colbee Shane. We would like
to thank Dagget County Sheriffs Dept. and EMT's for all of their support.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the
Centerville 9th Ward Chapel, 1450 North 50 East. Friends may call Thursday

Brallier, Mistee
Mistee Brallier 1969 ~ 2005 A beautiful angel of a woman Mistee Brallier was
taken from among us by a senseless tragedy on June 18, 2005. She was with her
daughter Courtney at the time who was severely injured, and continues to
struggle. Her son Korbyn was not with her at the time, has born the full
impact of this tragedy with admirable strength and courage. Mistee loved life
and celebrated her existence with laughter, music, and surrounded herself with
beautiful things. The most beautiful things to her were her family and most
especially her children. She loved Courtney and Korbyn with an intense
passion, and was especially close to her mother and best friend, Kimberlee.
She was all about freedom, and living life to its fullest. Mistee did not do
anything halfway, she embraced life in all its fullness, sought every
beautiful thing, every defining moment. She made decisions that at times were
hard to understand by others, she made them, out of her limitless love for her
family and their freedom of choice. She is survived by her children, her
parents, and brothers, As well as an extensive family, friends, and coworkers.
All who knew her loved her. A private viewing and memorial service for the
family and close friends will be held on Friday, June 24, from 9-11 a.m., and
a service for the general public on Tuesday, June 28, during the same hours.
All services will be held at Memorial Mortuary 5850 S. 900 E., Salt Lake City

Brown, James John
James John Brown "Jim" Our much beloved Jim passed away on June 18, 2005 as a
result of M.S. He was born November 1, 1952 in Tooele, Utah to James John and
Hilda Maria Shafer Brown. Jim graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1970.
He worked for Smith's Food for 24 years. We want to acknowledge and give
thanks to Jim's mom, Hilda, for her many years of love and care to Jim. She is
truly our angel. Jim is survived by his mom, Hilda, sister, Deborah Brown,
brothers, Chuck and Mike Brown. He was preceded in death by his father, James.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de
Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane (5000 South), where friends may

Choi, Weol Bun
Weol Bun Choi 1919 ~ 2005 Weol Bun Choi, 86, passed away June 21, 2005. She
was born April 28, 1919 in Pusan, Korea. Weol loved to take care of her
grandchildren and great-grand-children. She was a kind of person who always
helped and showed compassion for others. She loved flowers, enjoyed sight
seeing and eating in various restaurants. Mostly she enjoyed being together
with her loved ones. She is survived by her daughter Eum Jun Kim and
grandchildren Sung Soon, Young Soo, Seung Heui, Gina, Sue, Danielle, Jae and
John. She was preceded on death by her husband Bok Soo Choi and three
brothers. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 2:00
p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 East Bengal Blvd. (7800 S.)

Clark, Barbara Smith
Barbara Smith Clark 1923 ~ 2005 Barbara Smith Clark passed away June 21, 2005
in Carbondale, Colorado at the age of 81. She was born June 25, 1923 in Salt
Lake City, Utah to Albert Smith and Maude Thomas Smith. She married Ray Clark
on February 13, 1943 in Salina, Kansas. Barbara was the former president of
the Utah Wool Growers Association Women's Auxiliary, a Questairian member,
former American Legion and Elks Club Member. She is survived by her husband,
son Robert J. (Merrilee) Clark of Carbondale, Colorado; two grandchildren Kari
(Scott) Strobel and Holly (Michael) Pagan; four great-grand-children Bailey,
Britin, Zachary and Austin. She is preceded in death by her parents and 13
brothers and sisters. Services will be Saturday, June 25, 2005, in the Larkin
Mortuary Chapel, 260 E. South Temple, at 2:00 p.m. Friends and family may call
one hour prior to the services. Interment: Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Creason, Larry David
Larry David Creason 1944 ~ 2005 BLUFFDALE - Larry David Creason, 61, died June
20, 2005. Born January 29, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gerald J. and Viola
Mildred Jensen Creason. Married Marion Isaacson on Sept. 18, 1964 in the Salt
Lake LDS Temple. Larry served faithfully in the LDS Church as an elder's
quorum president, high priest group leader and a counselor in the bishopric.
Most of all Larry served his family with all his heart. He worked for the
Union Pacific Railroad for 39 years and was an avid hunter, fisherman and
outdoorsman. He had a great love for horses. Survived by wife of Bluffdale;
children, Sharleen C. Miner of Salt Lake City, Chandler R. (Sheila) of West
Jordan and Tyler (JoLynne) of Pocatello, ID; nine grandchildren, Cameron,
Jessica, Ashley, Elizabeth, Aleece, Jameson, Conner, Brennan and Isaac; one
brother Michael (Kathy) of Sandy; and uncles and aunts Ray (Lola) Creason of
Missouri; Glenn (Nola) Nelsen of Midvale. Funeral Services will be held
Saturday at 12 noon in the Bluffdale 4th Ward 14400 So. 1700 W. where friends
may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the church and Saturday one hour

Eliason, Betsy
Betsy Eliason Elizabeth Jean Moore 1925 ~ 2005 Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico
on October 14, 1925. Moved to Salt Lake City as a young girl. She attended the
University of Utah and was active in the Pi Phi Sorority. Betsy graduated with
a degree in history. She married Sid H. Eliason, Jr., March 2, 1950. She was
active in Junior League, loved tennis, and fly fishing with her husband. She
was an outdoor enthusiast to the end. Betsy was artistic and gifted. (She was
not fond of golf or bridge). One of her favorite stories was that she did
Sid's laundry all over the world. She is survived by her husband Sid; her five
children Eric, Elizabeth, Catherine, Daniel, Emily Sybrant, and their spouses;
her eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister Cynthia Fehr.
Preceded in death by her brother Henry John Moore. Friends and relatives are
invited to a celebration of her life on Friday June 24, 2005 from 12:30 to
2:30 pm at the Salt Lake Country Club. Her last words were "READY FRIENDS",
June 21, 2005. In memory of Betsy, donations to the National Abilities Center

Evans, Darren Val
Darren Val Evans 1966 ~ 2005 Darren Val Evans, age 39, passed away on Sunday,
June 19, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Darren is at peace in the loving arms
of his Heavenly Father. He was born on April 7, 1966 in Salt Lake to Jerry P.
and Ren e M. Evans. He attended Olympus High School and married JaLene Draper
on May 28, 2000 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Darren was the life of the party! We
will miss his sense of humor. Darren loved his children more than anything in
the world. He was a wonderful father and leaves behind his sons: Jordan and
Dominic, his daughters: McKenzie and Kayla, brother Jerry Lee (Susan),
sisters: Cheryl (Don), and Shauna, and many nieces and nephews who loved him.
Services will be Friday, June 24, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Union 4th Ward at 1834
E. Creek Rd. where friends may call one hour prior. The family will receive
friends on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 at Wasatch Lawn, 3401 S. Highland Drive. In

Fujikawa, Hede
Hede Fujikawa 1928 ~ 2005 Our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and loving
friend, Hede S. Fujikawa, age 77, entered into nirvana June 20, 2005. Hede
passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Smithfield, Utah,
Cache County. Daughter of Ichinosuke and Naka Togo Shimizu. Survived by
husband George Fujikawa, son Michael G. Fujikawa of Salt Lake City. Hede and
George would have celebrated their 53rd anniversary on June 21, 2005. Hede
lived in Smithfield, Utah in early childhood - moved to Salt Lake in 1935. She
graduated from West High School, 1945, and attended LDS Business College. She
worked for Veterans Administration 33 years. Retired in 1983. Worked part time
for JACL Credit Union 15 years and remained an active member of the credit
committee. Survived by brothers Ted and Dan Shimizu, Salt Lake; sisters Hana
Kubo, Gardena, CA; Mai Shimizu, San Jose, CA. Hede was a very active volunteer
for the J.C. Christian church and various Community organizations. She was
recognized for her outstanding service for AARP. Hede will be remembered by
many of her friends and family who loved and cherished her presence. She was
an avid skier and golfer (she was proud of her "hole in one" at Nibley). She
always organized and cherished family gatherings with her many nieces and
nephews and was "Mom Hede" to many. Hede will be deeply missed by all who
loved her. Memorial Service will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and

Goff, Ruth Curtis
Ruth Curtis Goff "Grandma Ruthie" Our loving wife, mother, grandmother,
sister, and friend died peacefully in her sleep after a short illness on June
21, 2005 at her home in Draper, UT, at the age of 80. She was born in South
Jordan, UT on June 8, 1925, to Ross Seymour Curtis and Alice Monson. She
married her high school sweetheart, Arliss H. "Ike" Goff, on Dec. 22, 1943,
just before he left to serve in World War II. The marriage was later
solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Ruth and Ike built a beautiful pink brick
home in Union, UT where they lived for 30 years and raised their family. They
later moved to Draper, UT where they spent 23 happy years. She loved being a
wife and mother, nurturing her family, serving her neighbors, listening,
cooking, and sewing. Her favorite things included music, genealogy, flowers,
her childhood farm, holidays, a clean house, the scriptures, her children and
grandchildren, her friends, and most of all, Ike. She was an active member of
the LDS Church, served as a ward and stake Primary president, ward Relief
Society president, and many other callings. Her secret wish: to serve in the

Hanne Andersen Hales 1933 ~ 2005 Hanne Andersen Hales, loving mother,
grandmother and friend passed away Sunday, June 19, 2005 in her home in
Riverton, UT after a long struggle with many illnesses. Hanne was born April
1, 1933 in Aalborg, Denmark to Aage Thorvald Andersen and Anna Marie Jensen.
She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1948 and
emigrated to the United States with her parents and sister in 1950. She
married her eternal companion, Monte Frank Hales on December 1, 1951 in the
Salt Lake Temple. She worked hard raising three children and supporting her
husband as a homemaker, and was the heart of her home. She reveled in the
successes of her family. She loved throwing parties and cooking for family and
friends. She knew every butcher in town by name, and where to buy the best
cuts of meat. She enjoyed reading romance novels, shopping for bargains and
playing cards for 45 cents a game. She made friends everywhere she went. She
enjoyed many years of service in the temple. Her parents and her husband Monte
preceded her in death. She is survived by her two sons, Monte Kim Hales and
Frank Thorvald Hales (Kriste); one daughter, Lisa Hales; eight grandchildren,
Erik (Danielle), Kasey (Alyse), Desiree (Greg Farris), Niclas (Kelli), Camron
(Amy), Anna, Kolby and Elliott; four great-grandchildren Shaun, Lily, Evan and
Avienne with a fifth, Emily, due in August; and her sister, Kirsten Aase
(Rolf). Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 11 a.m. at
the Riverton 16th Ward Chapel, 1208 West 12400 South. Friends may call Friday

Darren (Michele) San Diego, CA., daughters Debra (Mel) Briggs, Salt Lake,
Vickie (J.L.) Moore, Las Vegas, NV and Lynette Hubbard, Tooele. Sixteen
grandchildren, four step children, brothers and sisters: Margaret (Lloyd)
Clements, Roy and Lola Hardman, Melva Lee, Mildred and Bruce Sagers, Janice
and Elbert Mitchell, Vonetta and Max Fackrell, Deloy and Virginia Hardman.
Doneen and Dale Burr. Preceded in death by his mother Lyndell and father
Parley and brother Delbert. Delyn was a real cowboy and rode his horse nearly
every day. He had many friends, he met while riding up Settlement Canyon.
Delyn was a member of the Tooele 13th Ward, where he served as a counselor in
the Sunday School Presidency in the Tooele South Stake. Delyn retired from
Kenneoctt Copper after working there for 41 years. Delyn will be missed by his
loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 25th

Lillie Jensen Together Forever Lillie Lucy Liechty Jensen passed away June 20,
2005 in Murray, Utah. She was born July 23, 1911 in Providence, Utah to John
Liechty and Anna Lena Schneider. She married Kenneth Gordon Jensen on February
1, 1939 in the Logan Temple. He preceded her in death, Feb. 17, 1992. She was
a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a true
love for little children. She taught Jr. Sunday School for 30 years and was
known as the Neighborhood Cookie Lady. She is survived by sons and daughters,
Jerry and wife, Donna, Leonard and wife, Judi, Mrs Edwin (Anna Maria) Simons,
Mrs. Kent (Vickie) Beckstead; sister, Mrs. George (Ella) Thompson, 12
grandchildren, 25 great-grand children. Preceded in death by a son, Gordon and
two granddaughters, Jill and Stacey and by 10 brothers and sisters. Funeral

Jenson, Seth
Seth Jenson 1980 ~ 2005 William Seth Jenson, 24, died suddenly and
unexpectedly from natural causes late Saturday night, June 18. Seth was born
on June 28, 1980, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Growing up, he attended Wasatch
Elementary, Bryant, East and West Highs, classes at SLCCC. He enjoyed working
as a bartender at Market St. Oyster Bar. Seth thrived on outdoor adventure and
loved traveling. His friendships were deep and lasting. Seth was preceded into
death by his older brother Grayson ten years ago, and is survived by his
mother Kathy P. Nackowski, father William R. Jenson, stepmother Julie Bowen,
her children Jason and Jamie, plus a very, very large number of aunts, uncles,
cousins, friends, and grandmother Kay. An open informal celebration of Seth's
life will be held Saturday, June 25th, at the home of his grandmother
Katharine Nackowski, 1176 Second Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah, from noon until

Virginia Ketterling Together Again Our beloved mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully and returned to
the loving arms of her husband, Alvin, June 21, 2005. She was born February

Ketterling February 6, 1945 in Reno, NV. Virginia loved to visit with family
and friends, camping, cooking, and knitting until ALS took her body, but not
her mind. She was brave to the end and will be dearly missed by all. Virginia
is survived by her children, Carol (Ken) Fuller, Sandy (Russ) Rudy, Tony (Kay)

Nielson Priest, Max D. (Sharlene) Lee, and adopted grandson, Samuel Lee;
numerous grandchildren, great-grand-children, and great-great-grand-children.

1931, in Castle Dale, UT, who preceded her in death May 18, 1994. Stella had a
varied working career which included Woody's Jewelry in Helper, UT, and
Lavoy's in Salt Lake City, UT. She loved traveling and saw many countries with
her beloved husband, Thill. She loved fishing, hunting, camping, gambling,
crocheting, gardening and sewing. Most of all she loved her family, who will
miss her deeply. Survived by her six children; Beverly (John) Fercik, Helper,
UT; Boyd (Carol) Marshall, Lake Havasu, AZ; Audrey (Dale) Leeper, Phoenix, AZ;
Jerry (Carol) Marshall, Mesa, AZ; Michael (Sandra) Marshall, Morristown, AZ;
Billy (Lamar) Graves, Layton, UT; 26 grandchildren; 74 great-grand-children,
18 great-great-grand-children and sister Vera (Harry) Redford. Preceded in

Martinez, Atanacio
Atanacio Martinez "Popi" Our beloved sweet "Popi" Atanacio (Tacho) Martinez
passed away peacefully from this life, June 17, 2005 in the company of his
loving family. Atanacio was born Oct. 22, 1917 in Dixon, New Mexico to
Atanacio Martinez and Gregoria Archuleta Martinez. Popi was loving, kind and
embodied a gentle spirit. He always had a twinkle in his eye, a quick wit and
ready smile. Many family and friends came to know him by his nickname Tacho.
He had a sweet joy for the simple pleasures in life and was an enthusiastic
and avid fisherman. He was devoted to his Pentacostal faith and attended
church right up to the end where he lived by his motto "Pray one for another."
Atanacio is survived by his loving daughters Grace (Don) Karadeema, Nancy
(Cory) Smith, sister Odilia Christensen and numerous grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Preceded
in death by wife Ruby, second wife Connie, sisters Fellie Sanchez, Cruzita
Romero, Martha Romero and younger brother Richard, who was killed in World War
II. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24, 2005, at the New Life

Morrow, Donna Christensen
Donna Christensen Morrow 1922 ~ 2005 Donna C. Morrow born in Salt Lake City,
UT. To Antone C. and Isabella Christensen, passed away peacefully June 19,
2005. Donna's father was the manager of Lagoon resort in the 1920's and 30's
and where Donna spent many happy summers swimming with friends. Upon
graduation from Davis High School, she attended Stevens Henager College. She
held secretarial positions in several businesses until retirement. Former
husband Stanley A. Morrow was the father of her two sons Steven and Robert.
Donna was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had
a strong testimony of the Gospel. She was a compassionate and loving person to
all. Donna is survived by her sons Steven (Sydney) Morrow and Robert Morrow,
Salt Lake City; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, her brother
Julian Christensen, CA., and sister Annabelle Powers, WA. She will be greatly
missed but we know that we will be with her again. We want to give special
thanks to Nancy Ballou, hospice nurse, for the loving care and comfort she

Nash, Karl E.
Karl E. Nash 1921 ~ 2005 Karl E. Nash, a friend of the Lord, died June 22,
2005. He was 83. When Dad's father died when he was just eight, Dad was raised
by a mother who understood God's promise in Psalm 68: 5: "I will be a father
to the fatherless." The Lord and Grandma Nash did a great job. Dad learned to
make good decisions, work hard, and stick to his values when he was young, and
he practiced those virtues all through his life. The result was a lifetime of
faith, wisdom, optimism, good humor, and success in all his roles--at home, at
church, at work, and in the neighborhood (where all his neighbors on Logan
Avenue are used to hearing him whistle). Dad's death came just 18 days after
Mom's passing--and followed 57 years of a very happy marriage. "In life they
were not divided, and in death they were not separated" (D&C 135:3). Dad was
born August 11, 1921, in Fountain Green, Sanpete County, Utah to Emma and
Bernard Nash. He married Rita Jones on January 29, 1947, in the Salt Lake
Temple. Fifty years later he wrote: "Rita has been a companion in very
deed...My life has been blessed beyond description by her life, example,
compassion, and service to so many and especially to me." He served in the
U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1946 and graduated in accounting from the
University of Utah in 1949. During his career he worked for the Internal
Revenue Service, as regional manager for the U.S. Department of Energy, and in
private business. His work in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
includes two missions (one as a young man to the midwest and another with Mom
to Tampa, Florida) and service as bishop of Liberty Ward, counselor in the
presidency of Foothill Stake, high councilor in two stakes, and an ordinance
worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Part of his legacy: Read a chapter a day in
the scriptures, which is enough to learn something, but not so much that it
puts you to sleep. He is survived by his sons and their wives: Michael,
Richard (Laurie), Scott (Kathy), and foster son Norman Brown (Bequi). His
grandchildren are Paul, Emily, and Melissa; Jessica, Amy, and Sarah; and
Bethnie (Goldlin) Wall (and their daughter Phoenix) and Roselyn and Jared
Brown. He's also survived by his sisters: Zora Crowther, Mildred Israelsen,
and Berneice Neeley. Preceded in death by Rita and by his infant son Douglas.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, at 11 a.m. at the Foothill
4th Ward, 1794 South Texas Street (2405 East). A viewing will be held Friday,

Pett, Ethelyn Cannon
Ethelyn Cannon Pett 1907 ~ 2005 After a life richly lived nearly a century,
Ethelyn Cannon Pett, 97, died June 16, 2005, in Salt Lake City. Ethelyn "Et"
Cannon Pett was born December 12, 1907, in Salt Lake City, to Caroline Young
Croxall Cannon and Willard Telle Cannon, and was granddaughter of George Q.
Cannon and great-granddaughter of Brigham Young. She attended LDS High School,
East High School, the University of Utah, and the University of California at
Berkeley, from which she graduated with a degree in Economics. She married
James Arthur Pett, Sr., August 20, 1934. Et was a very social person who loved
parties, "a friend of fun," as well as someone who regularly attended Utah
Symphony concerts, chamber music concerts, art exhibits, and the opera; and
read widely. Her travels took her to Mexico, Europe, Egypt, Japan, China, and
Thailand. She was a commanding presence at the bridge table. She skied, played
tennis, and especially enjoyed golf. Her family often heard her tickling "Tea
for Two" on the piano and her homes reflected her good taste and interest in
interior decoration. A member of the Town Club, the Salt Lake Country Club,
the Junior League, and a study club which met regularly for decades, Et also
volunteered at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Holy Cross Hospital, and then the
University of Utah Medical Center into her eighties. Predeceased by her
husband and all six of her brothers and sisters, Ethelyn is survived by her
children, James Arthur Pett, Jr. (Marjorie), Jane Semmel (Kenneth, deceased),
Stephen Willard Pett (Clare Cardinal), and eight flawless grandchildren. The
family wishes to thank Karen Hodgsen and the staff of Brighton Gardens of Salt
Lake City for devoted care in recent years. Friends and family are invited to
a memorial observance at the Town Club, 1081 East South Temple, Saturday, June

Rasband, Merle Jane Dayton
Merle Jane Dayton Rasband 1924 ~ 2005 HEBER CITY- Our dearly loved and devoted
wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Merle Rasband,
passed away Monday, June 20, 2005 in Heber City. She was born October 6, 1924
in Heber City, Utah to Forrest and Nellie Giles Dayton. Married Mark Rasband,
April 25, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. As a strong and faithful member of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Merle served as ward organist
for over 40 years, under 10 bishops. She also served in the stake primary
presidency. She was active in her community singing in the Midway Swiss
Chorus, producing Wasatch County Miss Wasatch Pageants and Wasatch County Fair
Days Talent Shows. Merle sang and played the piano at over 500 funerals. In
1995 she was awarded Wasatch County Citizen of the Year by the Heber City
Lions Club. Merle excelled in her talents of singing, playing the piano, and
dancing. She loved to dance. She organized the Grand Tappers dancing group and
choreographed their dances, entertaining many groups all across the Wasatch
Front. Merle also taught piano lessons to many people for over 30 years. She
was one of the original members of the Choraletts. She loved people and was
forever sharing her talents. She is survived by her loving husband of 59
years, Mark; children: Dean (Holly), Glenn (Harriet), Jane Landon; brother,
Earl (Donna) Dayton; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was
preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Dorthy Kohler and Helen Cluff;
and brother, Bert Dayton. Funeral services will be held Sat., June 25, 2005 -
11:00 a.m. in the Heber LDS 1st Ward, 325 E. 500 No., Heber City. Friends may

Sheetz, Sarah Sargent
Sarah Sargent Sheetz 7/25/1913 ~ 6/21/2005 "Aunt Sarah" Sarah Sargent Sheetz,
age 91, passed away June 21, 2005. Sarah was born on July 25, 1913 to Lorenzo
and Mercy Sargent. She grew up in the Kamas area. She could milk a cow and run
a farm with the best of them. She graduated from the University of Utah, and
then began her first career as a teacher. She taught in Kamas, Paragonah and
Manila. While in Manila she married her true love, Oscar James Sheetz. One
year later they had their daughter Lillian. Over the course of the years Sarah
lived in Florida, and later settled with Jim and Lillian in Huntsville,
Alabama. She worked for the government there until her retirement. Sarah lost
Jim in 1968. Soon after, she retired and came to live in Salt Lake City to be
closer to her family. Sarah was an avid reader with a sharp mind and keen wit.
You always knew where you stood with Sarah. She loved dogs, traveling and
spending time with her loved ones. We loved spending time with her too. Sarah
is survived by her daughter Lillian, a brother John Sargent (Edna), and many
nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great- nieces and
nephews. All of us will miss her. The family would like to thank Silverado
Living Center for the fantastic care that they took with Sarah over the past
four years. The family and Sarah couldn't have made it without them. A
memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25th at Larkin
Mortuary, 260 East South Temple. Friends and family may visit one hour prior

Bethel Esbenson Shipler She Will Be Missed Bethel Esbenson Shipler died June
19, 2005 at her home from causes incident to her 92 years of life. Her parents
were Pearl N. and Bent Esbenson. She married Robert T. Shipler November 21,
1941. She graduated from the University of Utah and taught school in this
valley for 30 years. She was a Past High Priestess of Iris Court, #47, of the
Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America. She was a member of Mizpah Chapter #5
of the Order of Eastern Star, the Delta Zeta Sorority, the Sego Lily Chapter
of the American Business Women's Association, the Granite-Salt Lake Retired

the Emeritus Club. Bethel is survived by a son Gary Brent Shipler, and wife
Judi, of Seattle, Washington, and a daughter Lorraine Milliron, and husband
Vaughn of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is also survived by three grandchildren
(and spouses), Annette (and Joel) Milliron, Timothy (and Delia) Milliron, and
Jessie Shipler. Her husband, parents, and brother preceded her in death.
Bethel loved the excitement of being with her family and friends. She was
always among the last to leave any party. She would linger over her cup of
coffee to make the event or the meal go on a little longer. In leadership
roles in the organizations she belonged to, she was creative and fun, always
finding something to raise a laugh or smile. She delighted in her role in
teaching first- graders to read, figuring finances to the penny, and
correcting her family's grammatical errors. Her family had the privilege of
intimately sharing her life. Even to the end, she exhibited strength of
character, intelligence, and morality, and was lovingly referred to as the
"stubborn Swede". In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the
Intermountain Unit of the Shriners' Hospital for Children, Fairfax Rd. at
Virginia, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103-4399. A public funeral service will be
conducted by Iris Court of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, at
Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, on Saturday,
June 25, 2005 at 11:30 a.m. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the

Sorensen, Ileen Yergensen
Ileen Yergensen Sorensen "Together Forever" Ileen Yergensen Sorensen, age 88,
passed away June 16, 2005 at home in Magna, Utah. Ileen was born August 24,
1916 in Monroe, Utah to Niels Mathew Yergensen and Magdalena Christensen. She
graduated from South Sevier High School. She married Boyd Christian Sorensen
on December 17, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in
the Salt Lake Temple; they were married 64 wonderful years. Ileen is survived
by her daughters, Beth Ann (Joe) Zabriskie and April (Fred) Jensen; sons,
David (Barbara), Ron (Jil) and Dennis (Janae) Sorensen; sisters, Pearl
Christensen and Hope Salt; 20 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She is
preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Peggy Broderick, sister,
Ruth Butler and brother, Delbert Yergensen. Funeral Services will be held
Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 12:00 noon at Valley View Funeral Home Chapel, 4335
West 4100 South. The family will receive friends at a viewing Friday evening
from 6-8 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, and from 10:45 until 11:45 a.m. on
Saturday prior to the service. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.

Thornton, Marilyn Orlob "Mitzi"
Marilyn (Mitzi) Orlob Thornton 1933 ~ 2005 Marilyn (Mitzi) Orlob Thornton
passed away from cancer in her Belvedere home on June 20, 2005. She was
surrounded by her loving children and her sister. Mitzi was born on March 24,
1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was one of three daughters to Rudolph Orlob,
local business and civic leader, and Gladys Young, granddaughter of pioneer
leader Brigham Young. Mitzi graduated from Rowland Hall academy in 1951. She
then attended the University of Utah but her artistic and bohemian temperament
led her to California where she graduated from Mills College, Oakland in 1955.
She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the California College of
Arts and Crafts in 1959. In 1959, she married John S. Thornton and moved to
Ross, California where he completed his Master of Divinity degree. She had her
first child, John Jr., in 1961 and then moved to Sheridan, Wyoming, where her
husband served as minister at St. Peter's Episcopal Church and where her
daughter Andrea was born in 1962. The family moved to Sausalito, California in
1964 where her husband served at Christ Church, and then moved to Belvedere in
1969 where he served at St. Stephen's Belvedere. Mitzi divorced in 1978 but
continued to live in Belvedere, which she loved. She eventually built her own
house in Belvedere and was instrumental in its design. Her artistic talents
were reflected in the house itself as well as in the paintings and decorations
completing it. Mitzi was a member of the board of directors of Industrial
Supply Co., Inc., an award-winning Salt Lake City distributor of industrial
supplies throughout the Intermountain West. She was a volunteer in many civic
organizations over the years, serving as a docent at the Marin Audubon
Society, an instructor for Head Start, and a member of the Junior League. She
was also a member of the Alta Club, Salt Lake City, the Marin Garden Club and
numerous fine arts and performance organizations in the Bay Area. Mitzi is
remembered for her generous hospitality, kindness, refinement, environmental
awareness, and her love of music, the arts, and architecture. Mitzi is
survived by her son John S. Thornton, Jr. of Scottsdale, Arizona; her daughter
Andrea Young Rothstein and two grandchildren Paris and Nicholas of Boise,
Idaho; and her sister Joyce Evans of Salt Lake City, Utah. A graveside service
will be held at the Salt Lake City Cemetery on Saturday, June 25 at 2:00 p.m.
with a reception following at the Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family
encourages donations to the American Bach Soloists, Rowland Hall academy, the
de Young Museum of San Francisco, or the Marin Audubon Society.

Thorpe, Allan R.
Allan R. Thorpe 07/28/26 ~ 06/20/05 "In Loving Memory" Allan R. Thorpe was
born July 28, 1926 in Glasgow, Scotland. He was the son of Robert and
Williamina Hill Thorpe. He attended Heriott Watt College in Scotland and the
University of California. He was an Elder in the LDS Church. Allan owned and
operated Fitness Centers in Louisiana, Utah and Idaho. He was sales manager
for Memorial Estates and was head of the electrical department at Salt Lake
Community College. Allan thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and working with his
horses. He entertained family and friends with countless stories of his
eventful life. He married Sharron Gritton in 1957. They had three children:
Michael Robert, Anne Marie and David Earl. They were later divorced and he
married Jane Despain in 1993. He is preceded in death by his son Michael
Robert Thorpe. He is survived by his daughter Anne Marie Terry, son David Earl
(Holly) Thorpe, nine grandchildren and brother Ian Thorpe. The family extends
special thanks to Hearthstone Manor and Alpine Hospice for their care and
kindness. Funeral services will be Friday, June 24, 2005 at 12 at Wasatch Lawn
Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive. The family will receive friends on Thursday
from 6 - 8 and on Friday at 11:00 at Wasatch Lawn. Interment to follow at
Crescent Cemetery in Sandy, Utah.

Tisher, Beverley Jeanette Beck
Beverley Jeanette Beck Tisher "Bev" It is with great sadness but with somber
relief that the family of Beverley Jeanette Beck Tisher announces her passing
on June 15, 2005. She was born May 11, 1930 in Murray, Utah to Edward M. Beck
and Diana Helena Johnson Beck. Beverley married Theron A. Tisher, Sept. 30,
1955. Together they raised four children. Beverley worked at the Utah State
Prison, from where she retired after 32 years. She was actively involved in
Club 22, a group of her closest friends. Beverley was also an avid golfer and
bowler. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 140.
Beverley was a loving, devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece and
cousin whose family was always at the center of her life. Beverley had a
strong work ethic, enjoyed celebrating family birthdays with her homemade
dinners and was always there for anyone in need. She touched countless lives
with her kind heart and giving spirit and will be greatly missed by all those
who knew her. Special thanks to doctors and nurses at Care Source, South Davis
Community Hospital, Health South, Salt Lake Regional Hospital and the
University of Utah Hospital. She is survived by daughters Becky Thatcher of
Syracuse; Laura (Jay) Roundy of South Jordan; son David (Gail) Tisher of
Riverton; Son-in-law Craig Hinckley of Riverton. Brother Edward (Arla) Beck
and sister Marian (Ralph) Withers; seven grandchildren, five step
grandchildren, two great grandsons and seven step great- grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Theron A. Tisher, sister Linda Erickson
and daughter Terry Hinckley. We will be celebrating her wonderful life of love
and dedication in services on Sat., June 25, 2005 at 11:00 a.m., at the
Riverton Stake Center 13400 So. 1855 W. A viewing will be held Friday, June
24, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at the Broomhead Funeral Home 12600 So. 2200 W. and
Saturday one hour prior at the church. Interment Riverton Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, please make donations to the Riverton American Legion Auxiliary Post
140 at any Zions Bank.

Wilson, Nellie Kathleen
Nellie Kathleen Wilson 1915 ~ 2005 Nellie Kathleen Wilson, age 89, passed away
on June 21, 2005. Born October 29, 1915 in Witcherville, Arkansas to William
Frederick and Nellie Katherine Looper Peek. Married Hurley Vandeloure Wilson
on January 7, 1932, who preceded her in death. She was a certified welder
during World War II. She is survived by her children: Joel (Jean), Jerry
(Joy), Deloures (Larry) Kilpatrick, Donna (John) Dominguez, Sandra (Cal)
Anderson; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Woody. Preceded in death by
husband, two brothers, four sisters and two grandchildren. Friends and family
may visit on Saturday June 25th from 1-3 p.m. at McDougal West Jordan
Mortuary, 1861 West 7800 South. Burial will take place in Redding, California.
