Snedden, Ester Ester Snedden 1917 ~ 2005 Ester Afton Stevenson Snedden was born in Salt Lake City on September 7, 1917 to Dr. Lester A. Stevenson and Bertha Starley Stevenson. She married Robert Finch Snedden, the love of her life, on October 10, 1941 in Salt Lake City. Died February 23, 2005 in Walnut Creek, CA. Ester attended Salt Lake City public schools and was a 1934 alumna of East High. She was active in the Thespian Club, the Twittertonians Glee Club and was Society Editor of the Red and Black. Ester then attended the University of Utah, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree, with a diploma in Elementary Education, in 1938. While at the University, she was vice president of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was active in the Spurs and Trotters clubs. She devoted her professional life to teaching Kindergarten and First grade in Ephraim, Murray and Salt Lake City while living in Utah and in Sacramento and Concord after moving to California. She was a lifelong member of AAUW and belonged to the California Retired Teachers Association. According to the many notes received from parents of her former students, Ester was an expert in bringing the joy of learning to two generations of five and six-year olds. It would always pleasantly surprise her when a chance encounter with a former student, most of whom she immediately recognized and knew by name, would occur. She was also well loved by her colleagues, many of whom became her dear lifelong friends. Ester loved being with her family and friends. She had a creative nature, loving the Arts, and enjoyed painting, needlework and dancing, especially to Big Band music. While she didn't really care to work in the dirt (unless planting tomatoes), she enjoyed the roses and floral gardens her dear Bob planted for her. A lunch with family or friends followed by the musical theatre or a movie was always a great treat. Ester enjoyed card games, being especially good at Bridge and Poker. She loved socializing and playing with her weekly Bridge groups. She was a bit prone to wanderlust. During her life she traveled throughout North America, Central America, South America, North Africa, Europe, Russia, Asia, various Pacific Islands, New Zealand, Australia and the Caribbean. For some unknown reason, she was not interested in Antarctica. Mostly, she traveled with her dear Bob, but later she went on cruises with her "little" sister and best friend, Betty. She absolutely refused to capitulate to the use of sensible shoes, her cane or suggestions that she might need a hearing aid. Ester is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth, of Healdsburg, CA, Stephanie of Mayhill, NM; granddaughters Adela Luz of Washington, D.C., and Elena Xochitl of Fort Collins, CO; her sister Betty S. Allen of Salt Lake City; She was a loving aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews, especially Jane C. Holt, Elaine S. Evans, her brothers Vernon, Elbert, Claudius, Ronald, and Victor, her nephews Walter J. and Gerald Michelsen and her niece Julia Elaine M. Oberg. Swenson, Michael Scott Michael Scott Swenson 1972 ~ 2005 Born on Dec. 13, 1972, Michael Swenson left this world for eternal life Feb. 23, 2005. His mom and dad, Lee and Linda Swenson, and his sister Kristin are so sad and miss him so much but are comforted by his memory and the knowledge that he is at peace. Also missing him are his grandma Jorgensen and his aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends as well as his beloved dog, Kota. Mike grew up in Duchesne, Utah and moved to Orem when he was 14. He graduated from Orem High School and then Dixie College. Although he was most recently employed by myfamily.com, his favorite jobs were at Herritage School and Slate Canyon because he loved people. People loved him too and those that knew him know that inside his great big body beat a great big beautiful heart. Mike had gifts, he was gifted with infectious wit and could make anyone laugh in one line or less. His artwork is beautiful and a treasure to his parents. He was also a gifted athlete, amazing us with tricks on his bike. He skied like a madman and he pinned a lot of worthy opponents during his wrestling career. After high school he took up weightlifting, he treated his body like a piece of art, and others admired his strength and dedication. His greatest gifts, however, were not the ones that he had but the ones that he gave. He gave us smiles and hugs and happy memories. He gave us hope because he had hope and his belief helped us believe. Mike loved God and his childlike faith was an inspiration. He married Laura Hart in 2001 and was an admirably loyal husband. He loved her with a love that we cannot comprehend. Michael will be greeted in heaven by his grandpa Jorgensen, who he loved and from whom he got his sense of humor. He was also preceded by his grandma and grandpa Swenson and his bad dog, chance. A memorial service will be held at Thursday, March 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ Evangelical Church of Orem.
