This man is stuff of folklore in the family.
His father was John Reeves, born Tennessee, mother Mary Ann Johnson, born
Tennessee.
Orphaned at age 6 or earlier, went to live with oldest brother, John David
Reeves and his wife Mary Ann Harwood who later died and John had 2nd wife
named Elizabeth Anna Presley. Hence the confusion about his parents.

And his birth date was really March 10, 1845, not 1825. He was named after
Martin Van Buren who was President at the time of birth.

He was born in Madison County, Illinois.
