To the extent that extant records allow, each sketch includes the name of the individual, the dates and places of birth, marriage, death and burial, and the names of parents and spouses. Additionally, pioneers are highlighted, as are veterans. Census entries available for San Juan County, as well as other census entries gleaned from other research, are provided. Census entries include statements of occupation. The following abbreviations are encountered in the biographical sketches: b. = born d. = died bur. = buried p. = place f. = father m. = mother md. = married sp. = spouse States are abbreviated with the two letter postoffice code. Foreign nations are abbreviated by the first three letters of their names. The following are included: AUS = Australia NET = Netherlands BEL = Belgium N IRE = Northern Ireland CAN = Canada NOR = Norway DEN = Denmark PHI = Philippines ENG = England SCO = Scotland FRA = France SPA = Spain GER = Germany SWE = Sweden IND = India SWI = Switzerland ITA = Italy THA = Thailand JAP = Japan VIE = Vietnam MEX = Mexico WAL = Wales WOMEN ARE ARRANGED BY MAIDEN NAME. This creates difficulty for some readers, who generally think in terms of how they knew a person which was usually by a married name. For the largest cemeteries, Blanding and Monticello, married name indices for women are provided. The smaller cemeteries are manageable without such indices. A complication, which would be encountered in arranging women by married name, would occur in those instances when a woman was married more than once. The indices provided list them under each married name. Maiden names are provided in parentheses as the key to the listings. In the listing spouses are indicated. Where husbands are enumerated their wives are indicated by maiden name. Web Masters Notes: Where the MAIDEN LAST NAMES were not provided for the women they are indexed by their MARRIED LAST NAME If they were married more than once and have MULTIPLE SPOUSES than I have also indexed them by ALL KNOWN LAST NAMES so there will be more than once instance the same person will be listed for easier web browsing.
