He was born to William Francis and Ida Lorena Larsen Bartholomew on December 19, 1908 in Monroe, Utah. He married Eleanor Moore on June 12, 1940 in the Manti Utah Temple. They have 6 children: Ann (Dale) Hull of Orem UT, Joyce (Don) Stovall of Fremont CA, Carol (Alen) Hunter of DeLand FL, Paul (Loanne) of Raleigh NC, Marcia (Tom) Gandolph of Raleigh NC, and John (Holly) of Orem UT. They have 38 grandchildren, and 45 great-grandchildren. Vic attended school in Monroe, Fayette, Provo, and Gunnison, graduating from Monroe HS in 1928. He graduated from BYU with a BS in chemistry and from Iowa State University with a Masters and a PhD in Soil Microbiology. He served during WW II on the Emergency Rubber Project and with the Bureau of Plant Industry in Washington DC. He was a professor of agronomy at Iowa State University, North Carolina State University, and the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. He guided graduate students from all over the world, conducted research in nitrogen fixation, served in and led professional societies, and traveled the world representing Iowa State University, North Carolina State University and the United States government. He served as a consultant to commercial companies and government agencies, both domestic and foreign. He was known in professional circles as "Mr. Nitrogen". He authored or co-authored more than 70 scientific papers plus numerous articles for professional magazines. Victor loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life. He was a missionary in the Eastern States Mission, a district president during his mission and in the West Iowa District and the Raleigh, NC District. He was called as the first president of the Raleigh, NC Stake, serving for 11 years. He also served as a Patriarch in the Raleigh, NC and Salem, UT stakes, a temple worker in the Washington, DC and Provo Temples, and with his wife, Eleanor, as Church Special Representatives in the Nigeria Lagos Mission. He lived by and taught the principles of the Gospel, and his family and associates are grateful for his steadfast example. The family extends a special thanks to First Choice, Hearts for Hospice and Comfort Care Hospice for their faithful care. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 6, 2004 at 11am at the Sunset Heights Stake Center, 1200 So. 400 West, Orem, Utah. Two viewings are scheduled. One will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday December 5th, at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S. State Street, Orem, Utah. The second will be held Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Sunset Heights Stake Center. Interment will be at the Orem, Utah City Cemetery. Roosevelt, Jean Hyder Jean Pinegar Hyder, 87, affectionately known as "Grandma Jean" died quietly at home December 1, 2004, of conditions relating to age. She was born July 26, 1917, in Price, to John F. and Grace Ellis Pinegar and graduated high school in Spanish Fork. While working in Salt Lake City, she met and married her husband Jesse E. Hyder in Spanish Fork in 1939. Their marriage was solemnized in the Atlanta Georgia Temple on October 10, 1968. He died in 1991. Shortly after marrying Jesse, they moved to Hendersonville, NC, where she lived and raised her family. She was active in the community, serving as PTA president of East Flat Rock Elementary, Flat Rock and East Henderson High Schools. She was long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as the local and district presidents. A life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the only member of the Church when she arrived in Hendersonville, she was instrumental in building the Church in that area. She served in numerous callings including branch and district Relief Society presidents. After the death of her husband, she completed a mission to the Atlanta Temple 1992-1993. She then moved to St. George to live near her sister, Murl. Four years later she moved to Roosevelt, where she lived near her son, J. C. and his family. Survived by her children, Jere E. (Mary) of Hendersonville, NC; John C. "JC" (Jerilyn) of Roosevelt; JoAnne (Lanny)Roberts of Hendersonville, NC; Joyce (Gordon) Wight of Kaysville; three brothers, W. Lynn (Mary) Pinegar of Salt Lake City; Max L. (Lynne) Pinegar of Orem; and Rex D. (Bonnie) Pinegar of Cedar Hills; and a sister Murl (Jack) Christianson of Spanish Fork; 17 Grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Katherine Pinegar of Spanish Fork. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jesse, her parents, and brothers, Ellis, Frank, Billy, Ralph and a sister, Betty. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 6, 2004, at the West Stake Center, 150 Skyline Drive. Shepherd, Lee Ray Lee Ray Shepherd, 80, of Lake Shore, Utah passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at his home. Lee Ray was born on May 6, 1924 to Fredrick Shepherd and Sarah Melissa Gull Shepherd in Lake Shore, Utah. He married June Zeeman on June 27, 1944 in the St. George Temple. He is the father of four children: Junette (Bill) Argyle, Diane (Jim) Horrocks, Jerry Lee (Cindy) Shepherd, and Wayne Ray (Renae) Shepherd. Lee Ray and June have 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. Lee Ray has five sisters and four brothers: Reed Shepherd, Preal Shepherd, Bertha Smith, Don Shepherd, Clarence Shepherd, Jennie Henderson, Grace Nelson, Bud Shepherd, and Hazel Johnson. His father and mother, brother Clarence, baby sister Preal, sister Bertha Smith, and brother Reed Shepherd preceded him in death. Lee Ray was an excellent farmer all of his life. He loved horses and was the president of the Arrowhead Riding Club twice. He had beautiful race horses and won many trophies. He was the President of Lake Shore Irrigation Company for eight years and was a water board member for 16 years. He worked with the Spanish Fork Junior Livestock Show as director over the Junior Horse Show for 17 years. He loved and participated in all sports and coached the boys in basketball and baseball. He was a member of the LDS Church and served as Ward Clerk for 14 consecutive years with three Bishops. He was secretary in the High Priests Group serving under two presidents, a dedicated Home Teacher with his wife June as his partner, and a designated veil worker in the Provo Temple. Funeral services will be Monday, December 6, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Lake Shore Ward Chapel, 5916 South 3200 West. Friends may call on Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Walker Family Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, and on Monday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
